times now and I've only you know, I've been well,

Speaker 1 (03:06):

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Get my man in there, let me put them.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Put the camera on me, put the camera, put the microphone,
give it the microphone on me.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
I got something to say. Rob Parker has been doing
this for thirty years.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
He's been in market, at the market, big market, small market.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
National, doesn't matter. He's done it all. Get the man
in the Hall of Fame. It's time. I don't want
to have to come see you. He deserves it. You
heard me. I'm not scared of you. You know where
to find me. I'm doing a Rob Parker imitation in
case field. My audience doesn't know. Thank you, right there, Alex,
Very nice, Alex. That was all right on Tom. That's
(04:30):
why Alex is the man. I to know he's the man.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
Sorry, go ahead, Clinton Kershaw, Clinton Kershaw, Yeah, Man, tonight
will it be the night?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
It better be to night?
Speaker 5 (04:43):
He only needs three rock If the night is three
strikeouts tonight.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
It was a rough night, yes, and you know it's
a it's a benchmark in in Major League Baseball. A
lot of people don't get there, but three thousand strikeouts
is an amazing fee.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Today.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Only yeah, nineteen guys, I was just gonna say that,
and only four lefty c C. Sabathia, Randy Johnson, and
Steve Carlton, I mean, all great pictures and then to
do it with the same team. And Kershaw has only
been a Dodger, So only three guys have done that.
Walter Johnson, who obviously is one of the all time
(05:22):
greats with the Washington Senators, and Bob Gibson one of
the all time great pitchers of course with the Saint
Louis Cardinals. And but but I think when when people
look at there's two things you want to talk about,
and one is his legacy, because for a while it
wasn't good like as good as he is, the three
(05:44):
Cy Youngs and all the other stuff that he accomplished.
You know, Kershaw had this reputation of not being able
to win big games.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
And you know that you've been around here and the
Dodgers up until really last year because they want in
twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
But when they won in twenty twenty, then once.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
It's nineteen eighty eight, and now they've won two in
the last five years, so things feel different, even though
they've won a ton of divisions in a row, right,
like they own the NL West and his resume, Clayton
Kershaw is spectacular. I mean it just it's hard to
(06:23):
look at him and I think we're looking at one
of the great pictures of our generation. You know what
I mean from the standpoint I said, he's a ten
time All Star, three National League Cy Young Awards for
the Best Picture, he was the twenty fourteen Most Valuable Player,
(06:44):
and he won.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Two World Series. Now right, I mean like Kershaw does
he count last year? Was he does he? Okay? He
was on a team, it counts, it counts, Okay.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
So he's got two World Series and his earn run
average career we are two point five to one, which
is incredible, you know, in this day and age with
the way people swing the bat and all that. And
he's been incredible. Led the league and wins three times,
el ray leader five times, strikeout leader three times, and
(07:17):
he pitched a no hitter. So he has all these things,
and yet the postseason you talk about all the time
about making your name is in the postseason, and until
he finally won in twenty twenty, where he was and.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
He was a part of it.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
He pitched well in beating Tampa Bay in that World
Series that was during the COVID year, and I covered
it in Arlington, Texas and what I think only thy
thousand fans.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
It was very strange. I was there, was very.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Subdued and different, and fourteen thousand people only could could
be in the building.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
But they won.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
And I still think that that held to erase all
of the damage that was done in the postseason because
a he'd finally won, but he also pitched well. So
when I look at Clayton Kershaw and his legacy, I'm
gonna think of him as one of the all time greats,
(08:16):
and getting in this exclusive club of three thousand strikeouts
only cement him even further as one of the great
pitchers of our generation without a doubt.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
And I think that's clear cut in It's one of
the you know, the great things about it if you're him,
is when everyone agrees that not a single person undermines
how great he is not even me. Yeah, not even you,
and I don't even know who you are right now.
I thought I was getting ready to have to hear Alex.
I thought I was gonna hear wan wah wah wah
wah this whole time, and in fact, I didn't hurt.
That's what I thought I was about to hear. But
(08:47):
I heard you split some backs. So I just want
to add a couple of things to kind of contextualize
what you're saying. So Clayton Kershaw, I think is even
better than the person I'm gonna name, But I think
you'll get what I mean by the ardi if you
go looking at it from a basketball standpoint. He was
kind of the uh James Harden where, dude, we're seeing
some epic all time greatness, leading league in points and assists,
(09:11):
MVP winner, multiple MVP finalists, and we're just like, man,
he's doing things offensively. We really haven't seen like this,
But man, is it underwhelming. In the playoffs. Something just
isn't right. It's not clicking. And clay Clayton's has a
thirteen and thirteen playoff record of five hundred. But here's
the challenge, and you know this, his eer goes up drastically.
(09:31):
It's four point four to nine in the postseason and
thirty two five one exactly two five one, And you're like, okay,
that can't be Like that's a drastic difference, right, two
five to one. But in the postseason or has two
point eight, So okay, I can deal with that.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
You know, maybe some pressurized moments.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
You know, I get it. And that has been the problem.
And it wasn't just simply Rob that, hey, you know,
he gives up a little bit. It was that he
had very many mimble losses, and specifically, as you knew,
and the joke was the seventh inning, here comes the
seventh inning with Kershaw.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Oh here comes to say.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Even Dodger fans who love and adore the man and
his family would go, who I'm nervous the seventh inning,
And so that became the thing for him. It happened
in twenty fourteen and the NLDS against the Cardinals, and
he gave up multiple home runs in crucial settings. He
happened in the twenty seventies and twenty seventeen postseason.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
You also remember that astro they meant death to twenty seventeen.
That's when I won the Jordan's from Chris. That was
the one when are you perked up?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Yes, I'll never forget that one because Kershaw. And that's
when the Nationals went on to win.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Serious, who is that one? Every time we turned around
he was giving up a home run. It was like,
was that the Washington Nationals with that one in twenty nineteen?
That's the one you're talking about twenty nineteen the Nationals. Yeah,
twenty seventeen was a different one there. But my point is, yeah,
twenty nineteen when you're talking, but he just had these
moments where you're like, that can't be the lasting playoff moment.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
I think of clacking Kershaw. And so for him and.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
The team to exercise the demons in twenty twenty and
him they able to have some success and be a
part of it, I think helped him. And I actually
think it was a universal side rob And I think
this is rare where you get a universal side relief like, Okay,
that guy got one, you know what I mean? And
that guy was able to be a part of a
winning season because so many people like him, so many
(11:29):
people love what he does. Him and his wife and
the charite of the Kirshall Foundation and had just been
a heck of a career. Then I think there was
a universal side of relief that he finally was able
to get it done, get that monkey off his back.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Now here's what's become interesting.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
They win last year and he even joked like, I'm
the happiest I've ever been. And I wasn't even a
part of it, because even if he was an injured
couldn't do anything in the postseason. He pitched hi during
the regular season, but not during the postseason. And he
has been so elated. You've been here now for like
ten years. I've been here for fourteen years. Never see
him this. He lated joyous even and crying and emotional
(12:04):
and just creaming or going.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Crazy at the parade.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
And I think that's because Rob, you know how meticulous
he was. Everybody knew, don't talk to him, don't do
anything on a cursh all day. He has to be
out at the uh you know, warming up at this time,
and at twenty two he needs to be doing this,
and at four twenty eighty, and he's just so would
tight that I think he finally was able to just
enjoy baseball, you know what I mean, just enjoy the ride.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
So that was awesome scene.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
And it's easier because he had won in twenty twenty,
you know what I mean, Like if he if he
hadn't won, they hadn't won that one, and he couldn't
pitch in last year's right, I think it would probably
would have drove him crazy, eating.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
Him eating them alive, I agree, But having that one off,
that monkey off his back and having that one in
his back pocket, he was able to enjoy it. So
he's been he's been spectacular. He is embodied, which is
why I think the Dodgers rob kind of doing a
Laker move and that there have been moments where do
you let him go? Does he come back? Do you
just say, hey man, look we don't want to make
this look back. Can you just go on and have
(13:03):
a you know, let's just have had a great career
now like last season he could have duke you went
off a champion. Now he's back trying to get to
three thousand and obviously he wants to and he's competing.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I think he's four and oh this season so far too.
So here's the other thing too that we should talk
about real quickly.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
And then we'll get to some of your calls on
on Clayton Kershaw just where he fits in. Some people
are thinking that there might not be another picture, you know,
to be able to.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Reach that you already have.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Justin Verlander and Max Schurz are currently active pitchers who
have reached the three thousand strikeouts. And after Kershaw, who's
obviously three strikeouts away, the next closest is the Braves
Chris Sayle, and he's got twenty five two thousand, five
hundred and twenty eight, so he's got away. Garrett Cole
with the Yankees two hundred and fifty one. And you know,
(13:57):
some people are saying, we'll never see another guy strike
out three thousand.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I disagree, and I know you guys.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yesterday we kind of touched on this a little bit
and I brought up Tark school ball with the Tigers,
and people are like, well, guys don't pitch as long
into games, and that's why they don't think you'll get it.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
But Tark didn't have to pitch nine and is to
get thirteen strikeouts. This is in this era right now, Kelvin.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
People are more apt to swing big, you know what
I mean, and strikeouts aren't looked at as negative as
they used to be. Where you used to try to
put the ball in play right you want to, you
don't want to grind. You rather ground out a flyout
than strikeout. That's not where it is now. So you
can get ten strikeouts in six innings, or as Tark
(14:44):
school Schooble did was thirteen strikeouts in seven innings.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Like, you don't need as many innings pitched to get
as many strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
So I do believe there will be a talent and a.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Schemes or a school Bul or somebody of that ilk
who will have a chance to get that many strikeouts
because they're that good. So I'm not closing the book
on three thousand strikeouts.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
I'm closing the book like a terrible new book you
got at an airport on for you when you're going
on that plane ride slamming it, rob it ain't happen.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Cappen, no, sir and dode.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
Minute you brought up schoobl you can also bring up
Paul Skins. They did some number crunching and you look
at it, those are the strikeout leaders from last season.
So Scooble, he got two hundred and twenty five k's,
it would and he had an outstanding season.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
We know that it would take him over.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Thirteen rob thirteen more of those same exact seasons to
reach thirteen thousand. That means he has to be the
best pitcher in baseball for thirteen more seasons just to
get there.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
And then Paul's kings. I was just gonna give you
his numbers real quick.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
He had two hundred and eighty strikeouts last year's in
two hundred and thirty nineties pitch he would have to have.
He would get to two thousand, three hundred if he
was at that same rate another thirteen so it would be.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
But that's but that's a great picture. Yeah, rights, who
pitched that long? They pitched? Baseball's different like twenty in
one hundred and fifty years.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
No, but I'm saying, but of and I'm not saying
everybody's gonna do it, But to say that nobody in
the history of baseball is ever gonna get to that mark,
I disagree, all right? Eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
What is Clayton Kershaw's legacy to you?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Choker?
Speaker 1 (16:28):
In the postseason one of the all time greats of
our generation. Where are you and do you think we'll
ever see another three thousand strikeout pitcher? Kelvin says no,
I say yes. Where you will continue that conversation next
with you? Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox It
is the Odd Couple on a worship Wednesday, Rob Parker
Kelvin Washington, stick and strike out and stay I mean.

Fox Sports Radio, it's the Akupo Rob and kel Vin,
dj Ali Alex on the Ones. The two's on a
worship Wednesday. As always, we appreciate you rocking with your
boys and don't forget. For over forty years, sire wreck
has been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive shit fast and free. Back
(18:01):

mobile tire installation is right, They'll come to you tirereck
dot com.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
It is the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
All right, Clint Kershaw, Robin and I simple question his legacy.
Some people look at it as one of the greats
of all time. Others say left to be desired, especially
his playoff performances. Others think, hey, he's perfectly stated where
he is. You know where his rankings are. What do
you say? Eight seven seven ninety nine one Fox And
do you think we'll ever see a three thousand strikeout
(18:32):
pitcher again?
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Rob says yes. I say no, because.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
At some point we're gonna have robots that are gonna
be doing call ball and strikes.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Who knows what we'll get at to that point, Rob,
all right, who.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
We got might get more strikeouts because all you gotta
do is hit the corners. If that's the scary part
of that is, maybe guys won't even throw the ball
over the plate, you know what I mean, because it'll
be so good at calling.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
The corners, you know what I'm saying? All right? Eight
seven seven, they better at that. Casey in Oregon, you're
on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Casey?
Speaker 8 (19:06):
Hey, guys, thanks for protecting my call.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
How's it going doing great? Help you have a great
holiday weekend? My man?
Speaker 8 (19:13):
You two guys.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
So about Clayton Kershaw for me, very underwhelming, great longevity,
but in terms of playoff performance, very underwhelming. If we
take a guy like Andy Pettit and Madison bun Gardner
and compare to him them to Kershaw, I'm taking mad
bumb and Petit because they dominated when it matters most.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Oh see here here's and I hear that, and I do,
and Casey stay on. But Kershaw led the National League
in e RA four years in a row, like no
picture has ever done that. Kelvin, When you start doing
stuff that no one's ever done, Yeah, that that puts
you on a different plateau.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I'm about I'm about.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
The postseason, I am, but he did win. I like,
did you have to win ten or twenty or five?
I get the Andy Pettitt, but he is Andy Pettit
to me was a part of a juggernaut as well.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Yeah, when let me add to this, Rob that was
Andy right, No, that was I was that not Andy
J Casey Casey.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
I'm sorry, my bad, Casey Casey.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
I'll also add to this, Casey, if we were talking quarterbacks,
I would be with you. We were talking NBA stars
like the Lebron Steph you know, Kobe, I will be
with you. The reason I will challenge that a bit
is because baseball is a different sport when it comes
to winning. You don't have to win it all all
(20:45):
the time. Obviously you would love to have a ring
on your resume.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Maybe one. Bond's number one. Nobody stops him.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
A lot of people think he's the greatest hitter, or
maybe some people say the greatest of all time. So
baseball is a little different when it comes to the
just simply the winning aspect. Mike Trout, maybe he gets
to the postseason, maybe win, But if he does it,
people are never gonna be like Mike Trout, what that guy?
They'll say for a seven eighty eight year period, he's
one of the best I've ever seen, period, even though
(21:11):
he has barely any playoff experience.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Or only three playoff games, right exactly.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
So, I think baseball is a little bit different. Casey why.
I totally get your point, and I'm not mad at that,
but I think it's a little different.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
Andrew in Bakersfield, California, You're on the a couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
What's up, Dre? I mean, Drew, what's up?
Speaker 9 (21:32):
Guys? I'm a diehard Dodgers fan, and there's two jerseys.
I want Oral Hersheiser and Clayton Kershaw.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
Okay, and then shot to my guy Oral.
Speaker 9 (21:44):
And then in closing, how many strikeouts did bum Gardner happen?
Speaker 3 (21:49):
I have to look that.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
Up, all right.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
I mean, he was white hot in the postseason. It
ain't heard from him since the postseason.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
He was special. I mean, Gines won three World Series.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I mean I get that, and those moments and the Yankees,
wo pet it well on that team and Mariano and
all that.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
I do get all that and you.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Remember those moments. But Clayton, if you just look at
his resume, he just he did a lot of stuff
that people just didn't do. And it feels like he's
forty and he's not even old, you know what I mean,
Like that's.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Not he doesn't he thirty seven. I think it is. Hey, hey, Bo,
Bo was the resident Dodger guy.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
He has a podcast, bo jump in here where you
on Clayton Kershaw and tell everybody your Dodger podcast.
Speaker 11 (22:35):
You can find me myself, Ryan Berschger Monciy Bolonnios at
the Dodgers Own podcast. We're talking about the Dodgers every week.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
I never missed the Dodgers Zone pot.
Speaker 11 (22:46):
For reference, Clayton Kershaw has more than doubled Madison Bumgardner's
career war So it's not even close. It's not a
Clayton ks is the greatest picture of this generation. I
don't want to for anybody else like that's not nobody
comes to even just him winning an MVP. Like maybe
there's an argument for Verlander, but like Kershaw is just
flat out better. And I think it's it's kind of
(23:11):
set in tonight how much Kershaw means to the Dodgers
overall as well, Like I think he's the greatest ever
wear the uniform personally, Like I've now watched his entire career,
uh take place with the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
It's it's a now that that's interesting. What you Jackie Robinson? Right?
Speaker 1 (23:27):
I know, tough, but no, no, no, But you don't
need to You don't need to have watched Jackie Robinson.
And I always say this to you, and I get
you know that you watched Kershawn and as a kid
and all that stuff, and watched his whole career.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
But we didn't see Babe Ruth play.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
We didn't see certain people play, and you still know
like their impact.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
And I know that this was a thing with.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Ben Erlander where he thought the old Taani signing was
the greatest signing.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
In the history of the Dodgers, and people pumped the
brakes on that one, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
So I get what you're saying as far as where
he ranks, But if you talk about the Los Angeles Dodgers,
nobody's ahead of Jackie rob.
Speaker 11 (24:12):
The one thing I will say in Kershaw's defense is
when people bring up the postseason stuff, there were some
unfortunate moments of his own, but also a lot of
guys have that, Like Schuzers postseason record sucks, Verlander's posseason
record sucks because everything you do there is magnified. But
Kershaw also got left out to dry a ton. There
are so many times where you know, the manager decided
(24:35):
to bring in Pedro Bias in relief and would proceed
to give up a three run jack, and that goes
to Kershaw, even though it should not, It shouldn't necessarily
go to But you got.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
To remember that one against the Nationals. You don't forget that.
Speaker 11 (24:47):
Oh yeah, that was bad.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
That was the worst one. People were streaming out of
Dodgers Stadium. You remember it was so bad?
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Oh yeah, because in that if I'm right, Bo, the
Dodgers were up two to zero in that series, correct,
and the lost lost the last three, including Game five
at Dodger Stadium, and Kershaw gave up.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Oh shuts, Rob, you just put your shoes up on
front of the camera right now. You just want to
talk about the Jordans you got, I'm sorry this serious?
Speaker 3 (25:13):
There? Yeah? Yeah, stop it right there?
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Yeah, I think, but I gat he's universally one of
those guys everybody loves, so congratulate him.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Will see if he gets it.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
In a little bit, we got Sam Quinn, CBS Sports
NBA reporter in just a moment.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
It is the odd couple.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
Robin Kelvin on a worship Wednesday, joined now by Sam Quinn,
CBS Sports NBA reporter Sam Quinn, CBS on X Sam.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
What's up then? How you doing?
Speaker 6 (25:35):
I'm good.
Speaker 10 (25:35):
It's been a busier few days than I thought.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
You know, like early in that period.
Speaker 10 (25:38):
On Monday, I was like, so it's gonna be a done,
isn't it right? We're gonna get a couple of mid levels.
That's gonna be that? And then the Bucks said.
Speaker 6 (25:45):
No, no, we're actually gonna give you plenty to talk about.
So here we are.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
I want to start right there with the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
I mean, how surprised, shock were you said they were
gonna eat one hundred and thirteen million dollars till Dame,
thank you, we have rehab in Hawaii with all your.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Money and keep going wild. Shock Will you buy that?
Speaker 10 (26:05):
It was about as surprised as I've been by a
free agency move in a long time. I mean, the
cash cost is considerable here, but like just apply it
to Miles Turner where you say they're gonna pay him
twenty seven million a year, and they're gonna pay twenty
two million on top of that to free up the contract.
That basically treats Miles Turner like he's a MAX player.
(26:27):
Miles Turner's very good, He's never made an All Star team.
He's uniquely valuable to them because they need the shooter
next to Jannest. But like, the risk here is really considerable.
They have to feel very confident that this is going
to a piesy honest. And if that's the case, like
they don't have any guards, right, they have a lot
more work to do. I wonder if they can take
(26:48):
like their twenty thirty one first round pick attached to
Kyle Kuzma, go get a guard, Like, get somebody else
who can dribble on this team, that would be nice, get.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
A little bit.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
I think that that has to be the case.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Kuzma's got to be on the outs, right, I mean,
I don't see him staying there.
Speaker 6 (27:01):
The thoughts that I have is could they go to Boston?
Speaker 10 (27:05):
Who has Andrey Simon's who I don't know if they're
planning to keep makes a little bit more this year
than Kuzma does. Kuzma has the second year. Could get
build a swap around those two guys, so Boston can
free up a little bit more money, try to resign
out Orford. That's something I've had in the back of
my mind. You got to get a garden here somewhere,
right because they've had Littard in the last two years,
(27:27):
and they had Drew before that. They had Chris Middleton
when they were at their absolute peak. Janis having a
shooting center is nice. He also needs another high end scorer.
There's no one else on this team that I look
at and I say, he can get you twenty twenty
two a game. And I know that's overly simplistic most
of the time. I don't know as excited as I
would be statistically for Gianna's playing point guard, I don't
(27:48):
think that's really a recipe to like win at the
highest level. You got to have another garden there somewhere.
I hope they can go out and find him. I'm
also kind of thinking about this like I'm gonna get
into like some forty chests here they know, hypothetically, or
you think it's a possibility that Jannis might ask for
the trade if the deadline or in a year, well,
at that point you're gonna be so bad for so
(28:10):
many years, they're gonna be rebuilding that having that dead
cap hit from Lillard on your books, it almost doesn't matter.
But at least at that point you could then trade
Miles Turner and get more stuff for him, or you
could trade him with Giannis to the same team, because
they fit together so well that maybe you go distract
more in the package. So I'm thinking about this as
(28:30):
like a forty chess thing where I'm like, this could
go really really badly. I completely see that, but as
far as keeping Gianna Is happy, it probably bought them
a few months at least, and then longer term, I
think they could at least flip Turner if.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
They had to.
Speaker 10 (28:44):
So I don't think it's as apocalyptic as some people
are making it out to be, but it's a very
risky thing to do.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
We've never seen a team do this before.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Me let me the news of the day too.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
And I know we started with the Bucks, but Mike Brown,
I think that the Knicks thought they were getting Larry
Brown and said they got Charlie Brown. But anyway, where
are you on Mike Brown. I just I'm underwhelmed. I'm
not moved. I just I know he's a good coach,
but this seemed weird to me.
Speaker 10 (29:16):
I mean, I personally my opinion was they should have
hired James Barrego, and maybe they'll get him as an assistant.
I would feel a little bit better about it if
that was the case. But like, for what it's worth,
I wouldn't judge Mike Brown too harshly based on what
happened in Sacramento, because, like, nobody succeeded in Sacramento, right,
he wanted coach of the Year.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
There.
Speaker 10 (29:33):
You think the Kings to the playoffs. Then you move
on to an Eastern Conference Finals caliber roster, you think
you're like, Okay, that's much more to work with. At
least he's not like the splashiest higher but like he's
gone deep into the playoffs before, he's used to the
pressuries coach Lebron, he's coached Kobe. I think he's a
fine hire, and I think there's a lot of like
there's a lot of talk right now, but oh, is
(29:54):
he better than Timbeau's he worth?
Speaker 6 (29:57):
My thing is I.
Speaker 10 (29:58):
Think there's real benefit in just having a different voice.
I think where they were they had kind of hit
his ceiling. And that's not because the roster had capped out.
It's because they had a coach who refused to experiment right.
He didn't change his lineups during the regular season. They
never settled on an identity. You know, Mike Brown known
for practicing a lot. I think that's going to be
(30:18):
beneficial for them as they try to figure out like
who they are.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
Are they this.
Speaker 10 (30:22):
Five out spacing team that has Towns at center and
they really lean into offense. If that's the case, do
you start Duce McBride over Josh rt, do you go
double big? Do you start Mitchell Robinson like they did
late in the playoffs. I don't think they ever really
figured out who they were, and I think bringing in
an outside voice, even if it's not like a superstar coach,
(30:42):
could at least help you figure that out because he's
going to come in with new ideas about how to
maximize the talent in the building. So I don't know,
it's not like you're hiring Phil Jackson in two thousand.
It's not like you're getting you know, a proven, obvious
Sandles of caliber, coach, You're getting a new voice, and
I think there's benefits to that.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
We up against he got about a committed or two
here CBS Sports NBA report of Sam Quinn with the
odd couple. Uh, let me go to the back to
the Western Conference here, and I want to go to
the Dallas Mavericks. A lot of people are going crazy.
They love this Maverick team and they're going to the finals.
We've had guess who have put them in the Western
Conference finals? Some say the finals. I still don't like
(31:21):
it because the two main stars you have, one is injured,
one is often injured in Anthony Davis, and I just
can't get with you if that's the case.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Whose side are you on? You more on my side?
Speaker 5 (31:30):
Or are some of the people who were eager to
put them in the Western Conference finals and maybe even
the finals.
Speaker 10 (31:34):
They're a playing team, they have one healthy guard, Like,
how are you putting them in the Western Conference finals?
You think they're they're gonna win it enough regular season
games without Kyrie to get a decent seed.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
They're not.
Speaker 10 (31:44):
With D'Angel Russell. They're gonna, like, you know, maybe be
like a forty five win team something like that. You'd
be a playing team. Maybe you get Kyrie back, but
net from there. But okay, fine, now you're going to
be a seven or eight seed. Play Oklahoma City in
the first round, or Houston in the first round, or
Denver or whoever. Like I just know, Oh, I'm not
a big fan of that team. I think it's really unbalanced.
I think they're really passing up an opportunity here to
(32:05):
trade their veterans at the peak of their value so
they can actually rebuild around Cooper Black. This gift from
the basketball gods that they've been given, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (32:14):
I don't see it.
Speaker 10 (32:14):
Like if once Kyrie torres ACL that's like he might
come back this season.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
He's not gonna be one.
Speaker 10 (32:20):
Hundred percent this season. My thought was that was the
sign from the universe that you guys should just tear
it down and rebuild. They're not going to do that, though,
Nico Harrison's ego is too big for that, So I
guess we're doing this.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
They're going to be a playing team.
Speaker 10 (32:31):
Like God, let you.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
They're the opposite of the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
The Lakers have no bigs, not well, got eighten, but
they have all the bigs.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
My gosh, you know, and we got to real.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Quick the Lakers, real quick. We got one minute. Just
what are they doing? A lot of people were all
in on Lebron and Luca.
Speaker 11 (32:50):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
I don't see anybody out west that I like better
than that pair. They get knocked out in the first round,
and it don't look like there's much happening for them.
Speaker 10 (32:59):
I'll say this about eighton. He's a lottery ticket right.
There's like he might just be the same dude who's
been in Portland in the end in Phoenix. Maybe he's
just like not somebody who's going to take the game
seriously enough. But he's got like a ten or twenty
percent chance or whatever it is that you are the
team that's going to maximize his incredible talent. He was
a number one overall pick for a reason. You have
all the playmaking in the world to make him better.
(33:20):
You have an environment where he thinks he can win.
I don't know, like I get it. If you were
going to sign a Brook Lopez or a Clint Capella,
you're going to lose in the first of the second round,
and that was going to be that. I understand them
taking the ceiling play going for eight and is saying,
let's see if we can figure this out.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
Let's see if we can take advantage of him.
Speaker 10 (33:36):
They got to bring another wing, they got to get
a backup center. There's more work to be done here.
I understand the eight and move. I would just say,
give it another week or so before we make real
declarations of what they're going to.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
Be next year.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Yeah, that's the thing I was saying, because this move
from a seven seed to a six and a half set,
that's what I had him mad there, Sam, Sam, appreciate
you man, Thank you for your time.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Brother. We appreciate it absolutely.

Speaker 12 (35:43):
What's all the worst of Wednesday?
Speaker 13 (35:44):
Man?
Speaker 12 (35:45):
Absolutely? Hey, Rob, you can covering the releases nineteen eighty seven. Kelvin,
You're one of the most doubtant sports basketball, fishing Novels
by God disagree strongly. I think the Lakers got a bargain.
The key element is here, we got this for free
two years on the Lebron and Luca timeline, and they
didn't have to trade any of the core players like
(36:05):
Austin Leaves for Jared Allen or Daltin Kannen and to
COVID twenty thirty one first round draft pick for Walter Kessler,
or like that trade they have to make for Marcus
for Mark Williams and again and a guy who could
potentially be dominant, we saw it.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
No no, no, no, no, keV keV keV. Let me let
me stop. You, let me stop, you keV, let me stop.
You don't go anywhere.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
This is a typical fan reaction because the guy hasn't
worked out anywhere else. But you're gonna believe that the
Lakers got nothing, got got him for nothing, and he's
gonna be a star now right because he's gonna wear
Laker uniform. That what you're saying, No, no, no, but
that's what that But your your point is they got
him on a flyer, They got him for nothing, and
(36:47):
they didn't when do you have to not give up anything?
To get something. Do you do you understand what I'm saying.
Speaker 13 (36:53):
You're correct, You're correct, But I'm just saying, if you
remember that guy who played against Anthony Davis kelvin Washington
in the playoffs when they went on that he was
just as dominant as Ad and that went down with that.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
Here's my issue. Yeah, here's my here's my issue with you, Kevin,
I hear you. Here's my issue. My issue is from that.
You should have gone up. You should have had a
taste of the NBA finals. You should have been ticked off,
and we should have been play seeing you play the
best basketball of your career. The Lakers don't have the
luxury of waiting and developing. They need guys who are
(37:26):
have and have motors and not to mention, here's my
last point for you, Kevin. Real quick, they're making your
if this was just in a vacuum, okay, cool, Right,
you got a guy maybe sixteen to ten, that's what Okay, fifty.
They're doing this in a conference where the Nuggets got
way better, where the Rockets got way better, when the
MAVs have got pieces. You that this isn't in its
own vacuum. They're in a conference that the thunder still
(37:48):
exists and the and that's my challenge with this is
you are competing with other teams who are already better
and got better.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
I couldn't have said it better take that for data. Sorry,
I just felt like dropping that every now and again.
Speaker 13 (38:04):
Take that for data.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
You know, I just don't like a guy that I
have to try to oh if I get his motor going,
and oh, I know this is twenty seven eight year old.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Lebron is just one year old nothing. Do you know
what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Like the idea of oh, yeah, we got him for nothing,
we'd have to give up anything for him.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
He's gonna be great for us. Really, Okay, Like there's.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
A people I think Lakers fans probably gonna see days
where Jackson Hayes has more energy than DeAndre Aid.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
More energy.
Speaker 5 (38:30):
I'm not saying he's a better play, more energy and effort.
I think you might see those days as well.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon is coming up next.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
I never miss your radio show. I never hear it,
so I never miss it.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Did you hear that
