Yes, terrible, They're terrible, and they're almost as bad as
the concept Rob Manford saying they're gonna use robot umps
in spring training. Why don't we just get better umpires
instead of AI? Ain't everything all right? I don't want
to go back to the last second too much, but just
two things that drive me nuts.

Now, that's a great look. I've been on board with
the robot umps. Now, if you want.

To save jobs for the human beings, I'm all for that.
But I would say this, Martin, and I think you
probably will agree with me.

Standardize the strike zone.

I mean it is standardized, right, but use it like
go buy it. You make it into a put it
into effect. There is a strike zone. There is an
official strike zone. I'm not really sure what it is anymore.
It used to be like knees to the chest, you know,

the letters your chest and all that, but it's probably
a little different now.

But stamp whatever it is, enforce it. How about that.

We don't need fifteen different umpires having their.

Own strikes on what the heck is that?

I think if you told umpires you have to call
it this way or you will be demoted and sent
down the triple A. We will find other players the
same way that they do with players. If you don't hit,
you get sent down. If you can't pitch, you get
sent down. If you can't field, you get sent down.
If you can't call balls of strikes, get sent down,
and send me somebody else who can.

I'm with you, like I would prefer that to robot umps.
I want to keep the human element in the.

Game, absolutely, But if these dudes are gonna insist, one
guy an inch outside off the plate is a strike
for him, One guy at the ankles is a strike
for him.

do it, then you got to I agree with you. You're
getting demoted ill for that. And if they won't do that,

it in his heart for real, because if he really

If it was really on it, if his heart was
really in it, he had numerous copious examples of what
he could have went with.

All right, let's go college football. You and I we
talked a bit about it last night. I'm excited, man,
I'm excited about the playoff.

They got it. Man, they got so far to go.

Though with college football, mark it almost feels further, they
have further to go than they did five years ago
because now there's so much is it really is the
wild Wild West free agency essentially nil and now the
twelve team playoff. You know, we both feel like maybe

they're inching toward a two conference, several multi division type
situation like you have in the NFL three conference, four conference,
whatever you want to do. But I would be all
for that. But they're taking their sweet time and getting there.
But anyway, you know, Colorado, Dion Sanders Paul Finebaumb basically

mocked the notion as they joined the Big Twelve this
year that they might actually make.

Anyone asking whether On Sanders and Colorado are close to
the playoffs simply doesn't understand.

The reality of the road.

They're not going to the playoffs this year, and I'm
not sure Deon Sanders is ever going to get them
to the playoffs because I don't think he has the
patience to stay at Colorado long enough. There's so many
misconceptions out there. Deon Sanders is the best salesman I've
ever seen. I personally love the guy and for what
he stands for but the program looking out has a

ridiculously inflated view of itself. I heard Shador Sanders, who's
a fabulous quarterback, say last week we are everyone's super
Bowl Shardoor, you are not. You are an easy win nowadays.
You got off to a phenomenal start last year, beating
a couple of mediocre teams that had big names, and
quite frankly, you haven't done anything since other than crash

and burn. So I know that the media loves this story.
We follow all over ourselves, But Colorado isn't important in
college football. Dion Sanders is. He's a standalone person. He's
one of the most charismatic people we've ever seen.

But Colorado is nothing. They don't matter.

They're irrelevant in the big picture of college football.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
The only thing I disagree with fine By I'm saying Martin,
is that Colorado is irrelevant in college football. They're relevant.
They're relevant because of Dion Sanders. They're relevant because of
his flamboyance, his charisma, his popularity, his greatness as a

football player himself, the fact that you know, celebrities are
on the sidelines like they're relevant because of that. But
as far as football, yeah, Travis Hunter and shaduor Sanders,
and they got some other nice skilled position players. But

fine Baum is right in that they are not a
top program. Let's put it that way. And I don't disagree.
And maybe Dion will prove us wrong. But when you're
that his personality, maybe he will be patient. But his

personality doesn't screen patience right, It doesn't say it doesn't
suggest that you're in it for the long haul, that
you'll fight through the I know he did this as
an athlete, of course, but will he do it as
a coach fight through the tough times?

And it was easier as an athlete for him because
he was so great.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I mean, the tough times were just you working hard
because once you got out there and playing in the games,
your talent was gonna be your talent.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
You were gonna be the best out there.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
But now is he going to take the time to
really build this program into a great program.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
And it remains to be seen. Yeah, I agree with
fine Bomb in that if that's that's how you're defining relevancy,
then I can get it. But that's also like the
same way that Briani James is relevant in the NBA
discussion right, Like, he's not relevant in terms of the
wins and the losses. It's more of a novelty. It's
more of a he's entered into the t bow zones

Dion has, which everything he does becomes news right every
time he talks, like there's headlines from it, whether or
not he's good, bad, or indifferent. But in terms of
actually competing for a college football championship this year, absolutely not.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Does Colorado have a shot, And I'd be.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Surprised to see it depends I think this, if they
can get another quarterback, Dean'll be at Colorado. But if
you noticed, the only quarterback that he's coaching college so
far has been his son.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Like, if they get another quarterback who top.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Of the line, then I could see him staying around
trying to fight it out. If not, I wouldn't be
surprised to see him put either.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I mean, I look, I guess he'll have some other options.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
I mean, what if they have a season similar to
last year? Will he have other options? I mean might
just stop coaching is after his kid is gone.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, it'll be interesting, but I I I'm excited to
see I'm gonna be excited to see him play.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Oh, I'm gonna watch every game out.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
I mean until they start losing regularly and maybe that
maybe that'll happen. Maybe it won't this year, but until
they start really getting walloped and just are are a
bad team, I will be excited to see them play.

And I do think Shador is really good.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Travis Hunter is, Yeah, So to watch them, it's all
gonna come down to their offensive line. I know their
defense had to improve as well, but they basically revamped
their whole offensive line with the portal and we'll see
if that turns out to be a good thing.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
But if they can get the line together, because.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Even last year outside of Hunter and Shaduur, they have
some good skilled players.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
They did, so that's gonna be the key.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Can they get the big nasties, the big uglies up
front to do the dirty work so their skilled players
can shine. But it's gonna be fun and we said it,
look Dion he brings you know, he brings this type
of attention. Uh, He's gonna bring this type of criticism, skepticism.
(11:47):
But it's great for college football and it's great for
him and Colorado.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
But at some point you gotta start winning. Yeah, I think.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
I think if they win six games this year, I
think that that should be looked at as a sixth
sets And I don't think it will be, but I
think it should be. You go from one win the
year before he got there, four wins his first year,
six wins the next year, and then I think after
that you're looking at all right, camp, they should be
actually competing by the by year three of a program.

I think that's how long it takes to build in
college football.

Here's the only problem with that. If they win six
games this year and then Shador goes to the NFL.

That's why I said quarterback.

I mean, what if they don't replace him with a
capable quarterback? You know, so that that's what it's all
gonna come down to. They could they could be starting
over from scratch, or to your point, maybe Deana move on.

Thanks for taking the call. I think it's gonna be
rough sailing for Colorado Buffaloes as they move over to
the Big twelve. I got a match up against Nebraska.
Second game at Nebraska, Deyon Matt Ruhle right two oversized personalities.
There's gonna be no love loss there. Then they go
what Baylor their fourth game. Bottom line, as many players,
(15:27):
and it's specifically Shadoor and Travis Hunter with the big
recruits that he's brought in, there's as many other players
have walked right out the door. And the reporting is
that Deon Sanders doesn't love recruiting as much as he
does being a salesman. He's not getting on that jet
plane and going to that small town in the middle
of nowhere in Oklahoma to talk to that recruit. And
(15:49):
so I just think in terms of like their core talent,
they're gonna they're gonna have the same issues that they
had last year. That's not going anywhere. And Paul fine
Ron's right, they did strike lightning in a bottle and
get those early seeds and wins, but once he became
readily a parent, they have no offensive line. You know,
team should frankly bulldoze them, and I think they're going
to get bullied again up front. So bottom line, I'm
(16:10):
hopeful for Travis Hunter, a great kid. I'm hopeful for
Shador as they move forward you know, with their with
their careers. But the team is going to struggle and
just last thing beyond you're a man of faith, and
so on and forth. I'd like to see a little
bit more when you go through the struggles, not pointing
the fingers and not talking about how you're going to
get rid of to have the team, but maybe look
in the mirror and point the picture, you know, say

how you can get better as a coach. I'd like
to hear that as they go through the season and
they're possible ups and downs. Thank you for taking the call.

protection himself defensively, and I think it's just going to
bast fire on him and Coach Sion. They're gonna have
to come up with some type of strategy for their
next man up philosophy because they waste too much time

a long guys to stay out there and they didn't produce.
So hopefully they make their adjustice soon as the letters.

he said about Shador. When Shador was saying that where
everybody's super Bowl, that's a false, falsely inflated sense of
self that I just don't see. You know, you could

say that that'll make it true, like, well, it.

Definitely isn't true. I mean, it's not even close to truth.

I mean, and I know you don't want to lose
to Colorado because then he'll be in the press conference.
Dion will be in the press conference talk about you know,
do you believe now do you believe? We look, we
did that team with reporters, but I can't imagine that.
Uh you know, people are really shake their boots are
shaking as they see the Buffalos on the schedule right now.

Now, the top teams that they face are looking at
is as an opportunity to really and I hate to
put it this way because I really like Dann, they're
looking at it as an opportunity to embarrassing.

Sure, right, you know what I mean.

Like if a top team goes up in there, they like, man,
we let's not We're not gonna take them lightly. And
Dion's gonna talk enough junk, and they do have enough
of a profile where your guys won't take them lightly, right,
they won't sneak up on anybody, and the coach is
gonna want.

To embarrass them, no doubt about it. You remember I
remember those videos of Dan Lanning, Uh yeah.

Pregame talking about basically we're gonna go out there and
kick their ass and all of that.

I was like, oh, hey, Dan, all right, you know
no that that's exactly That's exactly what they are going
to be dealing with.

So yeah, it's Look, when you carry yourself with that
swagger and all that, this is what you would tract.

talk about him talking all this stuff that he talks, Well,

and then in the first two exhibition games was the
leader scorering second leader, scored right on out there and
backed it up. So nobody's like Anthony Edwards needs to

It's like, well, hey, now the question is is he right?
You know, I think it'd be nice to get to

You're not that guy yet, and but he's gone out
there and backed it up, so all right.

Well, first of all, thank you, and second of all,
I appreciate you guys doing this on a night when
Rob is out so we don't have to deal with
all that crazy stuff. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
You were not the first to say that, but it
is understood. Look, thank you for coming on with us
today because obviously there's some news in the Bay Area. So,
I mean, is this Brandon Ayuk situation a big deal?
Obviously he has no leverage and the Niners have all
of it. Do you think this gets ugly or it's
(21:49):
really much ado about nothing?
Speaker 10 (21:52):
Well somewhere in between. I mean, does it get ugly?
I think from Brandon's standpoint, it already has. And that's
maybe the only thing that's different about this when you
compare it to Nick both the last year, Deebo Samuel
the year before that, And that's really the comparison because
that one also got to an official trade request and

at times got a little ugly and scrub and social
media and all those things. So this does feel almost
like business as usual in July for the forty nine
ers of late. The difference here is that Brandon has
admittedly gotten very emotional about this. He's offended, this is
under his skin. He really does not like he is
(22:37):
publicly not seeing eye to eye and taking it personally.
And so from that perspective, I guess you could say
it's already gotten a little bit ugly. But I would
still put a very hefty chip in the corner of
Brandon Aiut playing for the forty nine ers coming this season,
because they still want him there, and as you said, Chris,
they've got all the power to make that happen.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
All Right, you put your chip in there, But how
many more chips, if any, will be going into brand
Nayuk's pockets. You said he'll be there probably, but will
he be there with a new contract.
Speaker 10 (23:09):
I would still guess yes, I really would because and
I would not say that because I think the forty
nine ers are going to cave necessarily. The forty nine
ers have laid this out and they know what they're
going to have to pay rock Perty or they think
next year, and so the situation is very clear on
their end. The reason that I think it'll get done
(23:32):
is it's just a hillatiously bad idea for Brandon for
him to not do it, dude, And you know, I
hate to say the guy's got to take less. I
do think there's some circumstances here that lean toward that.
But the bottom line is Brandon, if he says no,
he is putting tens of millions of dollars in his
(23:56):
future on the line to try to make an extra
two three per year over a five year deal. It
just doesn't make business sense to me.

How much of a sense of urgency is there around
this team because they've been knocking on the door for years.
I mean long before Brock Perdy got there with Jimmy
g they were, you know, close to winning at all,
and they haven't done it.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
And I feel like there comes a.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Point wheen you keep getting close, if you never get
over the hump, it really becomes a negative at some point.
And Shanahan obviously, even going back to Atlanta when he
was OC, has been getting close.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
So is there a feeling this year of desperation.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Like, man, we gotta get it done this year or
there could be some real problems.
Speaker 10 (24:47):
If you said that ten the meant the pressure was
turned all the way up, then I would tell you
that this is at eleven. That's where this franchise is at.
For the reasons that you said, the frustration of how
close they've been the fourth quarter leads in two Super Bowls,
all that should have could have would us. But then
(25:09):
add in the realization that on some level, one way
or another, this roster is going to change after this year,
and so the embarrassment of riches that they have at
certain positions is going to go away. I don't know
exactly who the names are. I would certainly guess that
either Debo or Brandon Ayuk are not going to be
(25:30):
on the team after this season. But the quarterbacks about
to get paid, and that is going to mean that
others cannot. You know, is there any question on you
on that?
Speaker 1 (25:40):
I mean, assuming he asks, say, a season similar to
last year, maybe a little better, is there any question
about You know, a lot of people, as you know
outside of the Bay Area really give the lion's share
of the credit to Shanahan and all the weapons. Is
there any feeling of that in the organization or are
(26:00):
they definitely sold on Brock.
Speaker 10 (26:03):
They're sold on Brock And the owner has literally already
come out on a publicly a handful of months ago,
and and and practically put a number on it saying
that they know they're going to have to go north
of fifty million dollars. You can you can have question
of the longevity of Brock Purty all you want. The
bottom line is Jared Goff just got fifty two million dollars,
(26:27):
you know, and and and so I'm not saying Jared
Goff's not a good player, but he's not Mahomes, He's
not Alan, he doesn't have gifts like that, right, and
so you know, if he does it again, I mean,
is the system involved in this? Are the teammates involved
in this? Maybe, But at the end of the day,
it doesn't it doesn't really matter. The consistency that he's

had at the helm of his team is just it's
too good. The numbers are too good. And so yeah,
they are going to break him off. There's no question mark.

And I know we're talking all forty nine ers right now,
but I do want to ask you cuz I feel
like all the talk about the Warriors has been Clay
leaving and not necessarily the pieces they got back.

Even though Clay left.

Do you think the Warriors are better than they were
before last year or even with that messy divorce, or
where are you at with that team?
Speaker 10 (27:21):
I think that at minimum it's kind of a wash.
I think if you have most people up here, they
think they might have gotten slightly better for some circumstantial reasons.
I would point to the team being better defensively, I
think with the additions of people like Melton, like Kyle Anderson,
(27:42):
but those are smaller editions. Are they markedly better? No?
I'd also add that, you know, Klay Thompson, he's been
upset for two years, So now you have players who
want to be there two years ago. Yet Jordan Poole
last year, Klay Thompson this year. Everything is going to
be a little bit more copathetic. It's set up to
be that. So from that perspective, a little bit better,

but certainly nowhere near enough, you know, Like I mean,
the way it was phrased by owner Joe Lacup just
today was, you know, he likes where they're at, but
he's also not satisfied. I think they'd love to make
another move if they can. I don't think Marketing is
actually available. I don't know if that move is going
to be before the season starts, but they'd like to
(28:26):
make one if there's something available.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Yeah, that's what I was going to ask you, was
about Marketing in so you don't even think he's available.
You just think the price will be too steep, Like
I wouldn't want to give up a Zimski and Kaminga,
you know, to get him. I want to keep those
guys and get him.
Speaker 10 (28:44):
They want to keep him. They're not going to be
able to keep all those pieces. But Chris to me,
and I bet you've heard this, this feels like a
Danny Ain's fishing expedition. I think that they're more than
happy to sign Marketing and keep him, and if they
want to trade him at the deadline or the end
the next year, they can do that. The Warriors are
an easy mark right now because they're getting older and

they're emotional. Their emotions are wrapped up in Steph Curry.
And therefore, you know, Utah can say, hey, especially after
that Bridges deal in New York, hey put.

Him out there.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
If somebody is willing to give us ten picks, then
then we'll do it. But the Warriors are not dumb
and there I would be shocked if they did that,
And so for that reason, I would predict that market
is going to stay played.

So in terms of the like with Klay Thompson, you
think what he can do in Dallas playing next to
Luca and play next to Kyrie who just actually just
saw reports you just got surgery on a broken left hand.
Do you think Clay will be better than he was
last year in that offense? Are his best days behind him?
Speaker 8 (29:50):
Well?
Speaker 10 (29:51):
I would argue he's going to be better simply because
the team's going to ask him to do less. The
fan base is not going to look at him through
the same lens. You know, he can just kind of
of quietly shoot his three pointers. No one's going to
be asking for him to be his former Hall of
Fame self. And the bigger question is will he asked
out of himself? He still wants to be the same player,
(30:12):
and he's not. And so that's why I think, you
know things finally went south with the Warriors is that everybody,
including himself, continued to compare himself to his former self.
That's why I knew, you know, like they're not going
to do that in Dallas. They're just gonna want him
to show up and knock down a three and on
(30:32):
on most nights he can still shoot at a pretty
good clip.

Yeah, yeah, that's uh, that's gonna be interesting.

I do think he can help the Mavericks.

He's still got a lot left, but I think it
was time unfortunately, and you know, time will heal these wounds.
He'll be fine when it's time to retire to Jersey
and all that. But how convinced are you this Steph
is going to retire?

You're a warrior, you know.

Mike dunleady just said a couple of days ago that
he's very confident that will happen. But to me, like
the conversation is, we're too early to it because there's
a bunch of things that need to happen in one
direction of the others that are actually going to be
the determining factors with regard to Steph Curry. Right, Are
the Warriors good next year? Are they bad? I could

see either happening. What other moves do they make around him?
What I don't think will happen is what just happened
with Clay. I don't think you're going to get an
unceremonious split where both sides are frustrated with one another.
But am I Am I going to sit here and
tell you that you know they're going to be a
good team and put the things around Steph to ensure

that he's happy for the remainder of his career. No,
I you know, I would, I would bet on it,
but there's a lot of different things that need to
happen first.

Yeah, he's He's made as many threes as you and
I have in the summer league.

And he's struggling.

was sitting next to his girlfriend who was a former
WNBA player and Angel Reese.

the record, obviously, He's just talking to his girlfriend and.

obviously went viral, and and I feel for him because
you know, that was totally off the record. He's just
having a conversation and you know, it goes viral, becomes

a big deal. And then he tweets out it's a flex.
And he tweeted out at like six am Eastern time,
who like three am out out west?

That was on his mind right, well, either you know.

Something right right, So he tweets out, it's a flex
to have your son alongside you in the NBA. It
reflects greatness and longevity. Bronie has all the tools around
him to be successful. I look forward to watching his growth.
What are your thoughts on this?

My thoughts first thought was this because I always thought
it was so corny when guys go up to each
other and hold their mouths over their hands over their
mouths and talk of My first thought, this is why
they do that, right, this right here is an example.
Number one and something is just to say. I don't
think he was saying it in any type of way

that's malicious. I think it's evident to anybody that's watching
that Brownie is not a pro right now.

Right it's not saying he'll never be the thing and.

Nick right on first things first that they brought that
up as well, Like was Jalen saying he's not a
pro right now?

I'm gonna be honest, and I personally think it's way
too early to pass judgment on brown He hasn't played well.
He's a project, right but he I'm not gonna say
he can't be a rotation player in the NBA down
the line with growth in development. But I also Martin
and I gotta be I gotta keep it real. Why

in the world would Jalen Brown or anybody say Bronnie's
not a pro right now?

it because honestly, it feels kind of weird in general

something we should be doing or whatever, but it feels

having a private conversation.

Yeah, it's just a whole thing feels a little kind

is because you have such a mix of old and

divide like this is like the high schoolers and the
middle schoolers all got together to play a dream team game, right,

I mean it is standardized, right, but use it like

into effect. There is a strike zone. There is an
official strike zone. I'm not really sure what it is anymore.

But stamp whatever it is, enforce it. How about that.

We don't need fifteen different umpires having their.

I think if you told umpires you have to call
it this way or you will be demoted and sent
down the triple A. We will find other players the
same way that they do with players. If you don't hit,
you get sent down. If you can't pitch, you get
sent down. If you can't field, you get sent down.
If you can't call balls of strikes, get sent down,
and send me somebody else who can.

Game, absolutely, But if these dudes are gonna insist, one

They got it. Man, they got so far to go.

Though with college football, mark it almost feels further, they
have further to go than they did five years ago
because now there's so much is it really is the
wild Wild West free agency essentially nil and now the
twelve team playoff. You know, we both feel like maybe

they're inching toward a two conference, several multi division type
situation like you have in the NFL three conference, four conference,
whatever you want to do. But I would be all
for that. But they're taking their sweet time and getting there.
But anyway, you know, Colorado, Dion Sanders Paul Finebaumb basically

mocked the notion as they joined the Big Twelve this
year that they might actually make.

A run at the playoff. Here's fine Bomb.

Anyone asking whether On Sanders and Colorado are close to
the playoffs simply doesn't understand.

The reality of the road.

They're not going to the playoffs this year, and I'm
not sure Deon Sanders is ever going to get them
to the playoffs because I don't think he has the
patience to stay at Colorado long enough. There's so many
misconceptions out there. Deon Sanders is the best salesman I've
ever seen. I personally love the guy and for what
he stands for but the program looking out has a

ridiculously inflated view of itself. I heard Shador Sanders, who's
a fabulous quarterback, say last week we are everyone's super
Bowl Shardoor, you are not. You are an easy win nowadays.
You got off to a phenomenal start last year, beating
a couple of mediocre teams that had big names, and
quite frankly, you haven't done anything since other than crash
(06:54):
and burn. So I know that the media loves this story.
We follow all over ourselves, But Colorado isn't important in
college football. Dion Sanders is. He's a standalone person. He's
one of the most charismatic people we've ever seen.

But Colorado is nothing. They don't matter.
Speaker 6 (07:13):
They're irrelevant in the big picture of college football.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
The only thing I disagree with fine By I'm saying Martin,
is that Colorado is irrelevant in college football. They're relevant.
They're relevant because of Dion Sanders. They're relevant because of
his flamboyance, his charisma, his popularity, his greatness as a

football player himself, the fact that you know, celebrities are
on the sidelines like they're relevant because of that. But
as far as football, yeah, Travis Hunter and shaduor Sanders,
and they got some other nice skilled position players. But

fine Baum is right in that they are not a
top program. Let's put it that way. And I don't disagree.
And maybe Dion will prove us wrong. But when you're
that his personality, maybe he will be patient. But his
(08:25):
personality doesn't screen patience right, It doesn't say it doesn't
suggest that you're in it for the long haul, that
you'll fight through the I know he did this as
an athlete, of course, but will he do it as
a coach fight through the tough times?
Speaker 3 (08:43):
And it was easier as an athlete for him because
he was so great.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I mean, the tough times were just you working hard
because once you got out there and playing in the games,
your talent was gonna be your talent.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
You were gonna be the best out there.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
But now is he going to take the time to
really build this program into a great program.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
And it remains to be seen. Yeah, I agree with
fine Bomb in that if that's that's how you're defining relevancy,
then I can get it. But that's also like the
same way that Briani James is relevant in the NBA
discussion right, Like, he's not relevant in terms of the
wins and the losses. It's more of a novelty. It's
more of a he's entered into the t bow zones
(09:28):
Dion has, which everything he does becomes news right every
time he talks, like there's headlines from it, whether or
not he's good, bad, or indifferent. But in terms of
actually competing for a college football championship this year, absolutely not.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Does Colorado have a shot, And I'd be.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Surprised to see it depends I think this, if they
can get another quarterback, Dean'll be at Colorado. But if
you noticed, the only quarterback that he's coaching college so
far has been his son.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Like, if they get another quarterback who top.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Of the line, then I could see him staying around
trying to fight it out. If not, I wouldn't be
surprised to see him put either.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I mean, I look, I guess he'll have some other options.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
I mean, what if they have a season similar to
last year? Will he have other options? I mean might
just stop coaching is after his kid is gone.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, it'll be interesting, but I I I'm excited to
see I'm gonna be excited to see him play.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Oh, I'm gonna watch every game out.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
I mean until they start losing regularly and maybe that
maybe that'll happen. Maybe it won't this year, but until
they start really getting walloped and just are are a
bad team, I will be excited to see them play.

And I do think Shador is really good.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Travis Hunter is, Yeah, So to watch them, it's all
gonna come down to their offensive line. I know their
defense had to improve as well, but they basically revamped
their whole offensive line with the portal and we'll see
if that turns out to be a good thing.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
But if they can get the line together, because.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Even last year outside of Hunter and Shaduur, they have
some good skilled players.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
They did, so that's gonna be the key.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Can they get the big nasties, the big uglies up
front to do the dirty work so their skilled players
can shine. But it's gonna be fun and we said it,
look Dion he brings you know, he brings this type
of attention. Uh, He's gonna bring this type of criticism, skepticism.

But it's great for college football and it's great for
him and Colorado.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
But at some point you gotta start winning. Yeah, I think.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
I think if they win six games this year, I
think that that should be looked at as a sixth
sets And I don't think it will be, but I
think it should be. You go from one win the
year before he got there, four wins his first year,
six wins the next year, and then I think after
that you're looking at all right, camp, they should be
actually competing by the by year three of a program.

I think that's how long it takes to build in
college football.

Here's the only problem with that. If they win six
games this year and then Shador goes to the NFL.

That's why I said quarterback.

I mean, what if they don't replace him with a
capable quarterback? You know, so that that's what it's all
gonna come down to. They could they could be starting
over from scratch, or to your point, maybe Deana move on.

and it's specifically Shadoor and Travis Hunter with the big
recruits that he's brought in, there's as many other players
have walked right out the door. And the reporting is
that Deon Sanders doesn't love recruiting as much as he
does being a salesman. He's not getting on that jet
plane and going to that small town in the middle
of nowhere in Oklahoma to talk to that recruit. And

so I just think in terms of like their core talent,
they're gonna they're gonna have the same issues that they
had last year. That's not going anywhere. And Paul fine
Ron's right, they did strike lightning in a bottle and
get those early seeds and wins, but once he became
readily a parent, they have no offensive line. You know,
team should frankly bulldoze them, and I think they're going
to get bullied again up front. So bottom line, I'm

hopeful for Travis Hunter, a great kid. I'm hopeful for
Shador as they move forward you know, with their with
their careers. But the team is going to struggle and
just last thing beyond you're a man of faith, and
so on and forth. I'd like to see a little
bit more when you go through the struggles, not pointing
the fingers and not talking about how you're going to
get rid of to have the team, but maybe look
in the mirror and point the picture, you know, say

how you can get better as a coach. I'd like

I mean, is this Brandon Ayuk situation a big deal?
Obviously he has no leverage and the Niners have all
of it. Do you think this gets ugly or it's

really much ado about nothing?

Well somewhere in between. I mean, does it get ugly?
I think from Brandon's standpoint, it already has. And that's
maybe the only thing that's different about this when you
compare it to Nick both the last year, Deebo Samuel
the year before that, And that's really the comparison because
that one also got to an official trade request and

at times got a little ugly and scrub and social
media and all those things. So this does feel almost
like business as usual in July for the forty nine
ers of late. The difference here is that Brandon has
admittedly gotten very emotional about this. He's offended, this is
under his skin. He really does not like he is
(22:37):
publicly not seeing eye to eye and taking it personally.
And so from that perspective, I guess you could say
it's already gotten a little bit ugly. But I would
still put a very hefty chip in the corner of
Brandon Aiut playing for the forty nine ers coming this season,
because they still want him there, and as you said, Chris,
they've got all the power to make that happen.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
All Right, you put your chip in there, But how
many more chips, if any, will be going into brand
Nayuk's pockets. You said he'll be there probably, but will
he be there with a new contract.
Speaker 10 (23:09):
I would still guess yes, I really would because and
I would not say that because I think the forty
nine ers are going to cave necessarily. The forty nine
ers have laid this out and they know what they're
going to have to pay rock Perty or they think
next year, and so the situation is very clear on
their end. The reason that I think it'll get done
(23:32):
is it's just a hillatiously bad idea for Brandon for
him to not do it, dude, And you know, I
hate to say the guy's got to take less. I
do think there's some circumstances here that lean toward that.
But the bottom line is Brandon, if he says no,
he is putting tens of millions of dollars in his
(23:56):
future on the line to try to make an extra
two three per year over a five year deal. It
just doesn't make business sense to me.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
How much of a sense of urgency is there around
this team because they've been knocking on the door for years.
I mean long before Brock Perdy got there with Jimmy
g they were, you know, close to winning at all,
and they haven't done it.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
And I feel like there comes a.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Point wheen you keep getting close, if you never get
over the hump, it really becomes a negative at some point.
And Shanahan obviously, even going back to Atlanta when he
was OC, has been getting close.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
So is there a feeling this year of desperation.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Like, man, we gotta get it done this year or
there could be some real problems.
Speaker 10 (24:47):
If you said that ten the meant the pressure was
turned all the way up, then I would tell you
that this is at eleven. That's where this franchise is at.
For the reasons that you said, the frustration of how
close they've been the fourth quarter leads in two Super Bowls,
all that should have could have would us. But then
(25:09):
add in the realization that on some level, one way
or another, this roster is going to change after this year,
and so the embarrassment of riches that they have at
certain positions is going to go away. I don't know
exactly who the names are. I would certainly guess that
either Debo or Brandon Ayuk are not going to be
(25:30):
on the team after this season. But the quarterbacks about
to get paid, and that is going to mean that
others cannot. You know, is there any question on you
on that?
Speaker 1 (25:40):
I mean, assuming he asks, say, a season similar to
last year, maybe a little better, is there any question
about You know, a lot of people, as you know
outside of the Bay Area really give the lion's share
of the credit to Shanahan and all the weapons. Is
there any feeling of that in the organization or are
(26:00):
they definitely sold on Brock.
Speaker 10 (26:03):
They're sold on Brock And the owner has literally already
come out on a publicly a handful of months ago,
and and and practically put a number on it saying
that they know they're going to have to go north
of fifty million dollars. You can you can have question
of the longevity of Brock Purty all you want. The
bottom line is Jared Goff just got fifty two million dollars,
(26:27):
you know, and and and so I'm not saying Jared
Goff's not a good player, but he's not Mahomes, He's
not Alan, he doesn't have gifts like that, right, and
so you know, if he does it again, I mean,
is the system involved in this? Are the teammates involved
in this? Maybe, But at the end of the day,
it doesn't it doesn't really matter. The consistency that he's
(26:48):
had at the helm of his team is just it's
too good. The numbers are too good. And so yeah,
they are going to break him off. There's no question mark.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
And I know we're talking all forty nine ers right now,
but I do want to ask you cuz I feel
like all the talk about the Warriors has been Clay
leaving and not necessarily the pieces they got back.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Even though Clay left.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
Do you think the Warriors are better than they were
before last year or even with that messy divorce, or
where are you at with that team?
Speaker 10 (27:21):
I think that at minimum it's kind of a wash.
I think if you have most people up here, they
think they might have gotten slightly better for some circumstantial reasons.
I would point to the team being better defensively, I
think with the additions of people like Melton, like Kyle Anderson,
(27:42):
but those are smaller editions. Are they markedly better? No?
I'd also add that, you know, Klay Thompson, he's been
upset for two years, So now you have players who
want to be there two years ago. Yet Jordan Poole
last year, Klay Thompson this year. Everything is going to
be a little bit more copathetic. It's set up to
be that. So from that perspective, a little bit better,
(28:05):
but certainly nowhere near enough, you know, Like I mean,
the way it was phrased by owner Joe Lacup just
today was, you know, he likes where they're at, but
he's also not satisfied. I think they'd love to make
another move if they can. I don't think Marketing is
actually available. I don't know if that move is going
to be before the season starts, but they'd like to
(28:26):
make one if there's something available.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Yeah, that's what I was going to ask you, was
about Marketing in so you don't even think he's available.
You just think the price will be too steep, Like
I wouldn't want to give up a Zimski and Kaminga,
you know, to get him. I want to keep those
guys and get him.
Speaker 10 (28:44):
They want to keep him. They're not going to be
able to keep all those pieces. But Chris to me,
and I bet you've heard this, this feels like a
Danny Ain's fishing expedition. I think that they're more than
happy to sign Marketing and keep him, and if they
want to trade him at the deadline or the end
the next year, they can do that. The Warriors are
an easy mark right now because they're getting older and
(29:05):
they're emotional. Their emotions are wrapped up in Steph Curry.
And therefore, you know, Utah can say, hey, especially after
that Bridges deal in New York, hey put.
Speaker 8 (29:15):
Him out there.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
If somebody is willing to give us ten picks, then
then we'll do it. But the Warriors are not dumb
and there I would be shocked if they did that,
And so for that reason, I would predict that market
is going to stay played.
Speaker 3 (29:31):

So in terms of the like with Klay Thompson, you
think what he can do in Dallas playing next to
Luca and play next to Kyrie who just actually just
saw reports you just got surgery on a broken left hand.
Do you think Clay will be better than he was
last year in that offense? Are his best days behind him?
Speaker 8 (29:50):
Well?
Speaker 10 (29:51):
I would argue he's going to be better simply because
the team's going to ask him to do less. The
fan base is not going to look at him through
the same lens. You know, he can just kind of
of quietly shoot his three pointers. No one's going to
be asking for him to be his former Hall of
Fame self. And the bigger question is will he asked
out of himself? He still wants to be the same player,
(30:12):
and he's not. And so that's why I think, you
know things finally went south with the Warriors is that everybody,
including himself, continued to compare himself to his former self.
That's why I knew, you know, like they're not going
to do that in Dallas. They're just gonna want him
to show up and knock down a three and on
(30:32):
on most nights he can still shoot at a pretty
good clip.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Yeah, yeah, that's uh, that's gonna be interesting.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
I do think he can help the Mavericks.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
He's still got a lot left, but I think it
was time unfortunately, and you know, time will heal these wounds.
He'll be fine when it's time to retire to Jersey
and all that. But how convinced are you this Steph
is going to retire?
Speaker 3 (31:00):
You're a warrior, you know.
Speaker 10 (31:02):
Mike dunleady just said a couple of days ago that
he's very confident that will happen. But to me, like
the conversation is, we're too early to it because there's
a bunch of things that need to happen in one
direction of the others that are actually going to be
the determining factors with regard to Steph Curry. Right, Are
the Warriors good next year? Are they bad? I could
(31:24):
see either happening. What other moves do they make around him?
What I don't think will happen is what just happened
with Clay. I don't think you're going to get an
unceremonious split where both sides are frustrated with one another.
But am I Am I going to sit here and
tell you that you know they're going to be a
good team and put the things around Steph to ensure
(31:47):
that he's happy for the remainder of his career. No,
I you know, I would, I would bet on it,
but there's a lot of different things that need to
happen first.

that's an understatement. He's shooting I think twenty two percent.
He's like seven for thirty one from the floor. Uh
in summer league.

Yeah, the next three that he makes will be the
first one. Yeah.

Yeah, he's He's made as many threes as you and
I have in the summer league.

And he's struggling.

And Jalen Brown was at the game last night and
was sitting next to his girlfriend who was a former
WNBA player and Angel Reese.

Was was a seat over.

Yeah, and uh, he was caught, you know, not on
the record, obviously, He's just talking to his girlfriend and.

He's you can read his lips.

He's saying, I don't think Brownie's a pro. And that
obviously went viral, and and I feel for him because
you know, that was totally off the record. He's just
having a conversation and you know, it goes viral, becomes

a big deal. And then he tweets out it's a flex.
And he tweeted out at like six am Eastern time,
who like three am out out west?

That was on his mind right, well, either you know.

Something right right, So he tweets out, it's a flex
to have your son alongside you in the NBA. It
reflects greatness and longevity. Bronie has all the tools around
him to be successful. I look forward to watching his growth.
What are your thoughts on this?
Speaker 4 (35:00):
My thoughts first thought was this because I always thought
it was so corny when guys go up to each
other and hold their mouths over their hands over their
mouths and talk of My first thought, this is why
they do that, right, this right here is an example.
Number one and something is just to say. I don't
think he was saying it in any type of way

that's malicious. I think it's evident to anybody that's watching
that Brownie is not a pro right now.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Right it's not saying he'll never be the thing and.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Nick right on first things first that they brought that
up as well, Like was Jalen saying he's not a
pro right now?
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Or was he saying he's not a pro?

I'm gonna be honest, and I personally think it's way
too early to pass judgment on brown He hasn't played well.
He's a project, right but he I'm not gonna say
he can't be a rotation player in the NBA down
the line with growth in development. But I also Martin
and I gotta be I gotta keep it real. Why

in the world would Jalen Brown or anybody say Bronnie's
not a pro right now?

You know, Like when you.

Say that, the assumption is almost understood that you're talking
about ever And am I wrong with that?

something that they said, Like maybe his girlfriend was like, yo,
Bronnie freaking stinks and then he's like, well he's not
a pro, or you know.

I just that that's a possibility.

I can't just I can't put too much stock into
it because honestly, it feels kind of weird in general
that we're and I mean, I'm not saying it's not
something we should be doing or whatever, but it feels
weird in general that we're breaking down, you know me.

And it's unfortunate that he got caught out there just
having a private conversation.

Yeah, it's just a whole thing feels a little kind
of you know, gross to me.

But Taylor Brown's doing He's having a great summer.

I know that much as much as he's not playing
for tim USA.

My man I was gonna say, my man got left

It's a great So he's a champion, he's got a
nice girlfriend, all that, he's enjoying his best life. But
I'm sure he's, you know, a bit peeved that three

playing in ninety two.

You got the Dream Team, you got the redeem Team,
and then this, well I think was true of this.

is because you have such a mix of old and
young in comparison to those other teams that seem to

Same age range. Right, maybe there's one or two elder statesmen.

This one seems like it's you know, there's a big
divide like this is like the high schoolers and the
middle schoolers all got together to play a dream team game, right,
