you and your wife go to Detroit, I'm gonna make
a restaurant recommendation that I had brought chat yesterday and
I didn't get a deal. And I didn't I'm not

(01:49):
they didn't pay me. I'm just being because I went
there and it was good.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Called Empire right on Woodward, about four or five five
six blocks from America Park, right downtown. Really good brunch
out of steak and eggs. So the lit the steak
was so seasoned perfectly.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
I know what I'm saying right, I'm trying to taste
raw meat. Oh my god, it was so good. You're lucky,
Alex wood Yeah, I think God, that was crazy.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
It was.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
It was so good. So it's called Empire. Empire Kitchen
and Cocktails.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
Now, something tells me when I do get there and
I say, oh man, I heard that.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Who did you hear about it? You got your I
used to live here, and oh wow you're back.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Like, yeah you have my man. Rob Parker told me
something tells be like Rob Parker, what oh table five?

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Come here?

Speaker 5 (02:40):
We got to get you on a good table. We
gotta get you. This is no just tells me. I'm
just saying it was really good. We'll be there next month.
So looking forward to put that on list and this
and then one last thing. You know, it's changed so
much now nothing I'm telling you, Like that restaurant was
really nice.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
It was recommended.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
And number two, I want to say shout out to
my my buddy Paul, his brother Andre and Ken. Those
are my guys. I went to the Tiger schoobl game
with last night. We're setting and right center field on
the first row. Home run came right next to first
home run of the game came right near us.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
But we got a great to Paul.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
I don't know how he did it, but we had
like that was as good of a seat I've had
in the bleachers. Yeah, like you can see all the actions,
see the whole field, everything going on. This shout out
to those sound like a good time. That was a
great time. I really woined the trip man. Got to
see your nephews and great nephews. Everything all right, rob G,
Let's talk about boxing as a whole and what took

(03:38):
place over the weekend.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
Before we get there. Though we got the update, we
gotta give him some It's just too much happening right now.
We got to give him quickly.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Some of these things that are happening in the NBA,
some of them I really like, rob Gie.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I like for this team. We discussed it a little
bit last hour.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Some moves, the Clin Coppella being a rim runner and
a block shot blocker for the Rockets, Kris Verg going
to the Pistons. You got a guy I like, uh
and Nika Alexander Walker.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
East.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Now the East ain't never been as open.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
You know that just this might be the one year
they might this one be, this might be the one
year they got a chance.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
This is one where it's not crazy to say, because it's.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
It's that thing is wide open. But yeah, break down
a few more of these I'm looking at I'm looking
at some some decent ones.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Bruce brown Back to the hel.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
I know you just mentioned that the big winners so
far the day are and not never to get order Denver.
They bring back Bruce Brown, and they get off the
Michael Border junior contract. They bring in Cam Johnson, So
that championship winner that we were so worried about being
closed after this last playoff run suddenly looks wide open again.
That's Nuber one. Number two Houston Rockets, you mentioned it.
They get Dorian Finney Smith from the Lakers. They also

(04:46):
get Clint Capella, and rumor has it they're going to
be in the mix for a couple of other guys
because they still have some flexibility both in terms of
signing trades and some young assets, so they can make
another move if they wanted to. And last, but not least,
you mentioned the Atlanta Hawks. They getting to ki Alexander Walker.
They just got Geez Louise from the Memphis Grizzlies, the
sharp shooter lu Kenard. Yeah, oh yeah, And that was

(05:08):
in addition to they'd already got Kristaps Porzingis. They've made
a couple of movies, made some goodoos on draft nights.
So three teams that consensus seemed to be winning the
first couple of days of free agency. I know today's
day one, but leading up pre agency are those three
teams all eyes on the Nuggets, the Hawks, and the Rockets.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
What the Hawks about? Me and Rob talked about this.
It's about time, like you've had Trey Young. He's been
a really good player. We know that, but people feel
like you can't win with him. Initially people thought you
could win with him. So the Hawks, it's been time
for them to come on. And we just said, Rob,
the East is wide up. And if you were ever
gonna make a push, you know, the only team that
to me can sit there and say no, don't forget

(05:48):
us is Cleveland in a sense that, okay, we just
won sixty something games, and don't forget about us. We
still got the same team coming back. But other than that,
the Knicks can feel like, Yo, we got this thing.
The Pistons can feel like, Yo, we got this thing.
Milwaukee can feel like, no, Giannis is gonna do it again.
I mean, the East is Orlando. The East is wide open.
And so if you're Atlanta, if there was ever a

(06:09):
time to strike, this would be the year.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
I don't know where they are, you know, Atlanta I really,
I really don't know, Like because it was a couple
of years ago that Trey Young when they won that
playoff series against the next people, they were you know,
thought they were going somewhere and then all of a
sudden they kind of fell back.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
So I don't, I don't.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
I just don't know where they are, Like, like, really,
do I feel like.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
They're gonna have a chance in the East. I don't.
I don't pick them over you know, three or four teams.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
I think if you look at it, I mean there's
no way with with obviously the injury uh to Tatum
and Halliburton, Right, Okay, so you look at those two
teams and Boston has shed people.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
I know that you can get a Celtic. You can
get a Celtic. Everybody get a time.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
I mean, they just figured that that they're not going
you know what I mean, like like you doing.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Like that shrewd business. They know how to listen.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
They don't have to do the sentimental They got out
for Isaiah Thomas, who was five for two, five to two,
balling out there saving m v P. At think was
what third that year got hurt and they were like,
oh man, that's cool. Thanks for everything, right right, but hey,
have a good one. Fans going crazy, people online, people
analysts talking bad? Are you supposed to be? You know

(07:22):
you you commit this? Somebody, he gave you his heart, soul.
His sister passed. Remember his sister passed away during the
playoffs and played and they.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Went out there hurt.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
And you remember that they held it against him. I
say that all the time, like that's not right. You
can't ask somebody to play and then.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
And they be like, man, you know you hurt. That's
what that's messed up.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
That incident is why reportedly Anthony Days had no interest
in going to get traded to Boston.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Oh yeah, they dealt with Isaiah.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
Thomas because it was it was foul you know what
I mean, game memory and they were like good looking, thanks, well, holla,
my sister passed.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
I played. No, we appreciate that, thank you.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Enjoyed Cleveland, enjoy Cleveland and ever heard he never got there.
He was his hip was torn up. Yeah, he was
a laker. He went a couple other places.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yeah, all right, rob g the box and knowing over
the weekend, let's get to that real quick.

Speaker 6 (08:10):
You're talking about Yonty Wilder No, you're not talking about that.
You're talking about Jake Paul. No, you love Jake Pod.
Ask me how much I've watched Jake Paul. How much
is you watch? Okay, well, a couple of highlights. But
do you think I'm gonna watch his fight the Tyson one?
Remember I told you that, No, I've watched it, called it,
but I remember we watched it here Rob caught the
illegal stream exactly if he brought their legal stream.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
But but you know I'm not giving Jake Paul to Nichols.

Speaker 6 (08:35):
All right, Well, a lot of people gave Jake Paul
two Nichols over the weekend because he beat former professional
boxer Julio Sayser Chavis Junior on Saturday, easy decision. As
a result, guys, get this, he has officially moved is
at the top fifteen of the WBA cruiserweight division, which
means he is eligible for a title shot.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Now.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
Yes, Jake Paul, who has fought basketball players, UFC fighters
and retired boxers, is now eligible for a world title fight.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Was he if he gets it?

Speaker 6 (09:04):
But after the fight, a current champion WBC superwalterweight champ
Virgil Ortiz, Virgil, thank you put out a tweet that
just went in on Jake Paul. Here's what it reads
in part, Jake Paul is scamming the entire world with
his circus fights, selling his real fights, but the entire
world contease to eat it all up and then have

(09:25):
the nerve to be disappointed because the circus.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Fights they pay to watch aren't real fights.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
He is single handedly destroying the sport and everyone else
is enabling it.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
I'm with him, I'm serious, like, like this is you know,
you talk about it, well, there's nothing to do. Just
what's the big deal? Just kid it, watch it, bring
some fight. But you you're enabling him to continue to
do this and not deliver the product.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
People watch train wrecks, people galk on the highway, right,
they might see somebody's leg off or something.

Speaker 7 (09:59):
You know.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Like I'm just saying so, just because a lot of
people are paying attention, what doesn't mean that it's good.
And that's the problem I have, Like when you pay money,
you you can make this thing even worse.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
And what as a guy who covered.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Boxing and whatnot where boxing is headed and now for
them to even consider him getting a fight, you know,
a title fight, Yeah, because they see the money that's
attached to him, do you know what I mean, And
they want some of it, whether he's earned it or
not or had legitimate fights to get to this point.
I just it is a mockery. It's a shame, and

(10:38):
I just won't have any part of it. I think
boxing has been destroyed, and Jake Paul is a bad
thing for boxing.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
That's me.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Here's the problem, though, Rob, I blame boxing boxing when
you mentioned it the heyday. I mean, obviously boxing has
been a big American stable from real fights, you know,
but back in the seventies, the eighties, the nineties and
even early two thousand and man, you had that, dude,
There's no way you missed a fill in the blank fight.
I don't care if Felix Trinidad to to to Oscar

(11:07):
de la Hoya to Roy Jones Jr. To Tyson to
Evan you boxing was real deal. Where what we do.
We're at the fight, We're at the fight party. We're
going to a sports bar. My buddies got like you
made sure this Saturday night you could bring a date.
If Rob G said, hey man, everybody come to the crib,
big boxing fight.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Come on, over.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
We're gonna get some drinks and food, have a good time.
You could bring your lady like a new date. Hayes,
big fight, My gosh, let's go watch a fight. Girl
dressing up for the fight. It was real deal. Everybody
was excited about fights, and I blame boxing for starting
to get too money hungry, to starting the cherry pick fights.
Who wouldn't fight a lot of this? People say with
Floyd Mayweather, I'm only gonna fight him. Well, I'm not

(11:50):
gonna fight that. You used to have the best of
the best of the best who said to themselves, Rob,
I'm not the best if I don't fight him.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
No, but but but I'm with you on the boxing
and that tip Floyd and Floyd stopped me from watching box. Okay,
we used to have to fights at the barbers, but
I used to stop because they weren't entertaining. And it
was always the fight that we wanted up and the
fight that we wanted we didn't get right five right,
We didn't get the fight when we should have gotten it.

(12:18):
And my point now with Jake Paul and him just
fighting these has been never was is in all these
Tyson and whatnot, it is a mockery.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
It is. And that's why I didn't want Mike Tyson.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
Remember I told you I didn't want him to be
a part of that, because he's a real fighter.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
One of the best of what I'm doing. And and
this is the problem, rob with where we are now.
And I think there's a large group of young people
and I was telling Robb g this who have grown
up on social media, who actually don't know what classic,
iconic or great is. And what I mean is they

(12:55):
don't know about great fights when fights were a thing.
They don't know out great movies because now all these
movies are Netflix movies and Amazon, where they're not great.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
They just get a big name to make it pay.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Hey, Kevin Hard, Adam Sandler, here's one hundred million dollars
for five movies. And they're cranking at my movie movie
movie move, just to crank out and get past the
deal where the movies aren't great.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
But the kids are just.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
Streaming and they don't know what iconic, with great, what
classic is anymore. So now they'll tolerate anything, and they'll
tolerate the current of the moment. And that's where we
are so boxing, they don't know great boxing Rob unfortunately,
so they just know Jake Paul's popular. He looks serious
in the ring, he looks and watches his new documentary
of him getting in shape to fight, and to them,
that is a fight. There are eighteen year olds right

(13:40):
now who genuinely look at Jake Paul as an actual,
real fight like that. Then in their mind, a boxer
is Jake Paul because that's all they known. He's mastered
social media, he's master clicks, he's Mastercloud, and he's master views.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
But but mony thing is like, the performances aren't great.
It ain't like, you know what, it's a great fight. Thought,
I don't know any I'm saying, not me. I'm saying
I'm sixteen. I'm sure this is the bro dude there right,
This is what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
They watch it.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
But they watched the Mike Tyson thing and thought what what?

Speaker 3 (14:09):
What? What they come away with that after watching that
Mike they thought Mike Tyson wasn't that great.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
Okay, now they can go, oh, y'all been telling me
Mike Tyson was that guy whoile my life. You know,
he ain't that great, see, I mean he was. The
fight was booty and he has showed his booty. That's
what they're gonna take.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
It was double booty. It was double cheeked up the fight.
How'd you think of the fight?

Speaker 5 (14:30):
Kids on Mike Tyson double cheeks his career and the
fight and we got to sit there like no, I'll
tell you.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
In nineteen eighty eighty was cold twenty years old. He
was the world chick.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
It was the world Tevin And they don't want to
hear that. And now Jake Paul is a real fighter
in their mind. That's what the worst part about this is.
And boxing should be a shamed.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
The idea that they're gonna give him a chance at
a title fighting.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Because why wasn't they?

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Now right, everything and there's no such thing as standard,
there's no thing such thing as integrity, there's no such
thing as standing on business. It's views, it's clicks, it's cloud,
it's streaming, it's it's all washed up now, there's no Have.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
You listened to radio lately?

Speaker 5 (15:03):
And I don't mean classic eighties, I'm talking about new
modern radio.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Dude, who they're listening to now is an embarrassment? Is too?

Speaker 5 (15:14):
When you and I we turn on the radio. Let's
just say it was a traditional just kind of your
traditional hip hop and R and B. You turned on
Luther Whitney, Brandy Monica, Mary J. Blige, Tupac, Biggie Jay
Z outcast. That was a normal day, normal day when
talent actually mattered. Now it's who's the best at getting views,

(15:35):
not necessarily talented dropping bars and I'm done take that
for data.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
Eight seven seven ninety nine. On Fox we want to
hear from you. Is Jake Paul making a mockery of boxing?
And are you done giving him your hard earned money
for these sham fights or used to enjoy them?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
You all in?

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Or have you got enough of the Jake Paul phenomena?
Now we'll continue that conversation next with you. It is
the Odd Couple, Rob Parker Kelvin Washington right here on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Stick and stay unless you're part of the Jake Paul
propaganda in the US of a turn it off people,
turn it off.

DJ Mary Mack taking us there.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Apparently.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
For over forty years, tire Reck has been helping customers

be In five minutes, our man a d Antonio Daniels.
We're getting ready to talk to him about a lot
that's happened in the NBA today. In the last twenty
four hours, a bunch of moves. So looking forward to

(17:32):
here what Ad has to say, looking forward to that,
and we got last call coming up in about twenty
twenty five minutes or so.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
For those of you want to get in on the action.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
Rob and I are have a conversation about just Jake
Paul hijacking the sport of boxing. I'm disappointed im blaming
a lot of it on boxing. You're blaming a lot
of us for tuning in as well.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
Because if you don't give him the money and the
numbers aren't there, then then he can't you know what
I mean, Kim Caden. It's gotta be if the interest
isn't there and people on signing up for the streaming
and all that, then then you'd say, well, the numbers
weren't good and then all of a sudden, uh, you
know those those places.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Don't want to well don't want to have them. We
aren't going to give them that kind of money. And
that's what you have to do. More than ever, Mediocrity
sales terrible. More than ever.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
Let's go with Mark in Sacramento. You're on the couple
of Fox Sports Radio was up.

Speaker 9 (18:22):
Mark was going on mister Washington, how you doing today?

Speaker 3 (18:25):
What's up, Mark? We're doing good, brother, good Rob.

Speaker 9 (18:28):
I agree with you. I agree. Remember the time boxing
was one of the premier sports in this country, and
I don't know why people pay to watch it now.
I'm the old school maxem was great back and then
you're right, mister Washington. I can remember those middleweight fights
which Chigray, Leonard and Hagler.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
Tommy Hurns and and you had to fight people, You
had to knuckle up.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Knock, you had to fight.

Speaker 9 (18:53):
All those guys are trying to get that marvelous Marvin Hagler,
the late great Marvin Hackler.

Speaker 7 (18:57):
They all were fighting each other every four or five.

Speaker 9 (19:00):
They were just going round and around, beating the head
out of each other. It was great.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
You don't have that anymore.

Speaker 9 (19:05):
I think the the the divisions, the w B A,
w B O, all that crap kind of messed it up.
Uh And in the corruption, just the officiating of boxing.
You you see watch you fight you some guy want.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
And yeah, that was another part of it.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
Mark, That's a good point where people who got frustrated
watching you know what I mean.

Speaker 9 (19:24):
Yes, it got bad, so boxing did it to itself.
That's what I was saying, Mark, And then it went
to pay per.

Speaker 7 (19:29):
View, and now everything's on pay per view.

Speaker 9 (19:31):
It used to be a DC wise world on Howard
go Sell calling every way chemist fight every month?

Speaker 3 (19:36):
I saw, I saw Muhammad Ali on a Saturday afternoon?
Was it?

Speaker 10 (19:40):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Was it Jimmy Young?

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Or that Saturday he fought Jimmy Young on free TV
on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Here here's where Mark, Mark.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
I would appreciate the call, Mark, but here's why I
would challenge. Yeah, even the pay per view was fine
if I was getting the fight we wanted. I don't
think we ever pay if I was getting Lennox Lewis entyon,
if I was getting a Vander I'm forty nine fifty
or whatever.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
It was back in the night. And what happens though,
Go ahead, Mark, finish up.

Speaker 9 (20:06):
Yes, the quality of the quality of fights, you right,
mister Washington. It's just there's no more quality of fights.
You may get one good fight every couple of years,
and these guys only fight once a year. Back then,
all those fights of quality fights, and they were fighting every.

Speaker 5 (20:20):
Yeah, maybe even four months. Man, I appreciate the call.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Mark.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
You know what else too? They didn't rob we didn't
hold it against them. This is where another reason why
Floyd messed it up to me, nobody cared if they lost.
If I told you Sugar Ray lost the Timmy Heards
and Timmy Hearns lost you, you'd be like man, run
that back. That was a fight of the year. You
didn't care who lost. You want to see the fight again.
Now everybody's scared to lose one. I don't want to
lose a fight. To lose ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Nobody can't. Mamma, and lost a handful of fights and
still people thought he was the great.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
It is Jimmy and Omaha. You're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 9 (20:51):
What's up, Jimmy, tell the Rob good evening, guys.

Speaker 10 (20:55):
We u my radio show premps. You guys here in Omaha,
so you're my drive home every night.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Very nice, nice nice station. Are you on there, Jimmy.

Speaker 10 (21:04):
We're on sixteen point of the zone here in Omar.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
Rob.

Speaker 10 (21:07):
I got the chance to meet you and Chris out
in Vegas for the Spence fight. You guys are nice
enough to take a picture and have a conversation with us.
Hopefully we can see you guys back in Vegas again.
For Terence Crawford and Canela Lalvarez, which I'm amazed you
guys haven't brought up in this entire conversation. We have
a fighter right now in the world that's trying to
unify three separate weight classes for the first time in

(21:28):
American boxing history. You got Turkey Doll of chic.

Speaker 9 (21:31):
And the people at yat Season paying the money to.

Speaker 7 (21:34):
Get the fights that we want to see.

Speaker 10 (21:35):
Kelvin, you were talking about not getting the fights delivered
to us, and there's a concentrated effort for it happening
in boxing for the first time. And I think Jake
Paul is just kind of the sour grapes on top
of all of this right now, because there's an actual
effort in boxing to try to fix the sports.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
Here's the thing, though, Jimmy Rup I hear you, Jimmy,
but we get this once every fivext year. We get
all exited, Oh okay, and that might be back and
then we don't get it again. So if you don't
have the follow up to me, then you got us
excited for no reason. And by the time you do that,
Jake Paul's had four more fights.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
All right, And and unfortunately yeah, Jimmy, Thanks appreciate.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Shout us to Jimmy and all the folks out there.
Real quick.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Drey, we'll get you real quick. You're in the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 11 (22:15):
Hey well, if you're going on, thanks taking a call.
I have to side with Kelvin on this. To blame
the onus is on boxing itself for not producing the
fights that people want to see. I tip my hat
to Butt Crawford going up multiple weight classes to fight Canelo.
People are going to tune into people want to see.
They wanted to see Crawford Spen, you know, those mega fights.
But again money Mayweather for as interesting and as you know,

(22:37):
he did diminish the quality of boxing trying to protect
that perfect record. And Calvin, you know you brought up
the point. You know people fought multiple times Ali and
phrase they fought three times, people tuned up, tuned in
for every single one. There's no shame in losing if
you fight the best.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
Right, no, right, Nobody was trying to do that with
tomato cans, you know what I mean, and cupcakes and
just trying to hold on and pummel somebody you pick wins.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Thank you, Thank you.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
I fight him three years too early. All right, appreciate
all the calls on that. We got Antonio Daniels getting
ready to join us on the other side of what's trending.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
That's why we have Steve Sager.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Steve, be sure to catch live editions of The Odd
Couple with Rob Parker and kelvin Washington weekdays at seven
pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
All right, Steve, you have a great night. Appreciate you.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
It is the OKAPA, Rob Parker Kelvin Washington, Magic City Monday.
We're joined by our man A D. It's right's hustling
so much, you say.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Y'all gotta wait. I'm gonna get back at y'all in
a minute. Hey D. Put the microphone on them, Put
the microphone on me.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
NBA Champ Series Sex m NBA Radio, New Orleans, Pelicans,
Fox Sports Radio, NBA Analyst And I don't know if
I miss any other slashes A D.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
What's up? Brother? What's happening?

Speaker 7 (23:52):
Is that Rob?

Speaker 3 (23:54):
He decided to come back to work. Yes, I know
it took a week off. Who was unheard of? Oh
my god?

Speaker 7 (24:02):
Wow? Okay, well, today must be a pretty special day
agency day.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yeah, I guess yes today, how about that? Let's go there.
What moved you the most? Can we say?

Speaker 7 (24:15):
I'll tell you honestly. You know what's funny about free
agency now is that it's not what it once was.
You know, remember when free agency used to be like
all about the stars and who was going where? And
you're watching the free agent shows and free agent fevers
all these kind of things. Now, what's really about star players?

(24:36):
Because I mean, well role players, because stars don't really
become unrestricted free agency anymore because they do their deals
in advance, right. Yeah, actually, watch it was just a
little different. I love the Doria Finney Smith to Houston.
That's the one that stood out for me because they
had to replace Dylan Brooks. Somebody you can put in

(24:57):
that starting lineup that can guard multiple positions like brook
Derry and Finney Smith is a good pit for that.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
How about from the Lakers standpoint of, uh, you know,
Lebron taking all the money in which I'm out of money, no,
but but the idea that are they going to be
able to improve their team so that they can be
in the mix out west?

Speaker 3 (25:16):
It just seems weird to me. If you're still playing.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
At forty forty one years old, you're obviously trying to
play to win.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
It ain't that the numbers are already there.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
He's the all time leading scorer, you know what I mean,
all these other things. It can't be just to play
and make fifty million dollars.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Is it.

Speaker 7 (25:33):
No? I mean, but then Lebron didn't do anything different
than what any of us would have done.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Yeah, but jeez, at his age. I'm with you. I
don't think anybody should give a home team discount. I
don't think anybody should worry about the capologists and the
team and them doing the general roundage doing their job.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
But if you're Lebron at this point and you're still playing,
there's got to be you know what I mean?

Speaker 6 (25:58):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
It can't be the money part.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
If the team is not gonna be able to field
a team you got knocked out in the first round,
does that make sense?

Speaker 7 (26:07):
I don't know. I hear you, but I don't know
why all that simply just falls on Lebron. He opped
in into his deal and the deal that the Lakers
put on the table. I don't have a problem with
that one bit. I don't have a problem.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
So if they have, no, if they so, Lebron could
play two or three more years not wining, and and
you would just feel like, well, he got his money,
the team just wasn't good enough to win.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
And that's the way it is.

Speaker 7 (26:28):
No, But the thing is, like, the hard part to
imagine is Lebron Like, this is the first time I
heard today since what I don't know how long, twenty
years that he actually came to become a free agent.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Well, because they're over because they're not going.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
To pay him for Lebron after this year.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Well don't you in LA.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
Or is it elsewhere?

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Well, don't you believe you're.

Speaker 7 (26:49):
Playing at all?

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Right, but don't you believe that's because they looked at
the landscape. No one's gonna give him fifty two million dollars, nobody.

Speaker 7 (26:57):
You can say that about a whole lot of guys.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
No, But I'm saying that is age and wave fits
in and what you have to do to have him rob.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
I mean, we can say that he was second team
on the league, you know what I mean. So, so
any way you break it down or any way you
look at it, his.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Impact he might have been his impact isn't the same.
I'm sorry, his impact isn't the same. Defensively, he doesn't
do anything.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
No, no, no, well, I mean it shouldn't be the same
at forty one years old, right, I'm just saying. But
here's the thing, though, Rob him being at forty one
years old, him being forty one years old, maybe honestly
the best player that Luca has ever played with, even
at the age that he's at right now.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
Last night, I don't think that's a debate. I mean,
Lebron and I do think.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
They're knocked out in the first round last year.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
And I think that's where the dilemma draw comes from.
Antonio Daniels, our guest, you're on the Oco Fox Sports Radio,
is because if you're the Lakers, well we want to
get rid of we want to move on. But there's
ten guys maybe better than Lebron, And I think that's
the problem is it's easy to say a lot of fans,
you know, we're his station here in LA and they
say move on, move on. But it's like, okay, but

(28:07):
ten guys.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Isn't going anywhere. But at some point you got to
look at it and go seriously. And I get it.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
They kept Kobe, they gave him the big money, and
guess what, they didn't make the playoffs for the last
five or five or six years of Kobe's career.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Is that what is that what you want? I mean,
that's where they would say, we keep getting to the
playoffs with Broun.

Speaker 7 (28:27):
The number one is is Lebron is playing better at
this stage than Kobe was.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
No, I'm just saying.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
He's more impactful right now than than than Kobe was,
you know. And the thing that Laker fans have to
understand is you can't move Lebron. You can't move him.
You can buy him out right, but you can't move
him because there's not going to be another team out
there that with this new CBA and the way this
whole thing works. That's a completely other discussion. No team

(28:58):
is going to give up their few no, for a
forty one year old Lebron James.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
I agree, they would be crazy to do.

Speaker 7 (29:05):
You can't move them, no, but this ring him is
not announce.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
That you got a no trade claw.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
So you couldn't even just trade him anyway if he
if he didn't want to, Ay Dave, we got like
a minute or two here some other moves. We were
kind of talking about this with Rob g The Nuggets
have been able to make a couple of quiet, sneaky
little moves and still retain most of their their team.
Michael Porter Junior gone for Cam Johnson, Bruce Brown back,
who was a part of that championship team. You got
the Hawks doing a bunch of moves here, anybody else

(29:33):
jumping out that's been able to make some moves here
or there that you say, all right, I see what
you're doing.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
I like what you're doing.

Speaker 7 (29:39):
I honestly, Denverer was the other team that actually stood
out outside of Houston. Denver really stood out because you know,
in free agency and Oklahoma City did this last year, right,
they had needs and they addressed those needs. Denver had
needs and they went down to address those needs. I
think Cam Johnson is an excellent replacement for Michael Port.

(30:00):
I think he is an excellent placer for Michael Ford
Junior because you get the defensive side of the ball
and you also get to shoot it. And I know
Bruce Brown was in New Orleans in last year, and
I know he wanted to get back to Denver, right,
That's where he played his best basketball so adding Bruce
Brown back to the mix of that team that they
already hadn't placed, I think outside of the Houston Rockets,

(30:21):
off the top of my head, the Denver Nuggets really
stand out.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
I like what I like some of the moves they
made there too. They didn't overly panic and start freaking out,
uh you know, and they kind of kept the cores
while still upgrading.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
I'm just curious. One live, we got one minute, just curious.
I know that Nets had a ton of picks and
they picked like what four guards or whatever.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
What are they doing? I'm asking you, ad, no, ad.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
I mean, I've been covering the league since nineteen eighty seven.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
And I swear to you, I don't know. I don't
know what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
I don't written there.

Speaker 7 (30:56):
I'm not gonna lie to you. I don't either.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Okay, all right, you better.

Speaker 7 (30:59):
I think I feel like the Brooklyn Nets are going
to have a problem. They're going to have an issue
even spending their free agent money, right, They're going to
have to overpay for someone that does not deserve the
payday that they're about to get. But they're going to
have an issue because coming into the summer, they had
the most money available.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
Right, they got all young kids, right, they have money
to spend. But I don't know what the plan is
or what they're doing. They got a beautiful building in
downtown Brooklyn. Man, I just do not know.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
What they do.

Speaker 7 (31:30):
What Man, They're in a rebuilding process. They're in a
complete rebuilding process, not retooling, but rebuilding. Nobody wants to
be a part of a rebuilding process when other teams
in the league are starting to take off.

Speaker 5 (31:42):
I tell you what I said this last week, Rob
you were gone. I said, the best thing the Nets
had going for them when they have free concerts from
jay Z when he was a minority owner.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
That was the best thing the Nets have ever done.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
I got to see jay Z perform for free.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
That was I know. We got to go. And I
forgot the Atlanta Hawks as well.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
Yeah, made some.

Speaker 7 (32:01):
Really really good moves. They signed to kill Alexander Walker today,
trading for Chris top sports ingas like they made some
really good moves. They added to what they already had.
You get Jalen Johnson back healthy, Atlanta gonna make some
noise in that Eastern Conference.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
It was wide open. We talked about a couple segments.
Before you joined us, the Eastern Conference was wide open.
So if there was ever a chance to do it,
dang it. This is the year and people are probably
tired of Trey Young. They're like, all right, Trey, and
we need something out of you, all right, ad ad,
thank you, my man. Appreciate you for sure.

Speaker 7 (32:31):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (32:32):
