balancing act when sending text messages the last few days.
Oh yeah, back with you know, like because you go like,
for instance, you know our own boss, you know, is
Marry Chris. I'm like Berry, happy hot, Marry, Well, Merry
Christmas to me.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
I just say, I just say Merry Christmas on Christmas
kind of regardless because that's the holiday with celebrating like
on Christmas Day, or I just say happy Holidays in
like a broader text, you know what I mean, like
in that pain.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, it's been it's been funny. I've been Merry Christmas
inning and folks too. But I was like, oh yeah
they might they might not, but hey, marry Christmas everybody.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
That's how that's how I play it. But anyway, hey,
it is the odd couple and UH. For over forty years,

right tires for how, what and where they drive.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Ship Fast and free back by free Road has.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
A protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation.
Tire rack dot Com the way tire buying should be.
I should just say to Ben malor Big Christmas Bash.
Ben Maller celebrates Hana Kuhn has what like was a
pajama party. He had his big Hanak pajamas on and
his wife Aaron I'm assuming is Christian because they have

(03:06):
a Christmas tree at the house and she has Merry
Christmas and we just all celebrated and it was great.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Why I got something else for you? Don't pull back
the curtain.

Speaker 7 (03:14):
Real far friend of the show and contributor to the
Cup He from Salam, talked to him this week, go hey, man,
are you ready for Christmas?

Speaker 8 (03:21):
Mary?

Speaker 6 (03:21):
He doesn't celebrate Christmas. He's like, no, man, I'm Muslim.
I was like, oh, but don't you got a Christmas
tree in your house? Well, yeah, we got a Christmas
keep on top of it is Minora.

Speaker 7 (03:31):
I'm like, well wait a minute, Like you don't get
a claim every single holiday when convenient.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Religion.

Speaker 7 (03:40):
That was just and he's like, yeah, no marry happa quanz.
I'm like no, no, no, no, no, no, you big one.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
And you still with it. Hey, I hear you.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
And a buddy of mine when I went to high
school with Glenn, who's Jewish, says that Christmas is his
favorite holiday. Like he just said, he sings Christmas song. Yeah,
he's a singer, right, and he sings like he's he
writes his own Christmas tunes and all this kind of stuff,
performs him every year and he just says, I just
love Christmas.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
I just everything about.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
It and and except the christ end of it.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
I mean he's Jewish, so yeah, it's like one part
other than that one part of the christ Christmas, I'm
gonna draw the line there, but everything.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Else he loves.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Come fuck Okay, I'm just saying, all right, hey, don't
forget the podcast as well.

Speaker 5 (04:28):

forget Stony Mike Stone from my ninety seven to one
of the ticket in Detroit. He will join us in

(04:52):
about twenty four minutes or so. And then last Call
and the NFL pigskin pickoff. Kelvin, you're all right with
the pigskin pickoff.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
I mean, I think I did all right last week.

Speaker 6 (05:00):
I do our last he had a really good last
four and one. I felt the first winning week in
like three months.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
The logic, Roger, I didn't ask you about I said
last week, how did I do?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I didn't even way way back in the past. Thank you?
All right?

Speaker 5 (05:14):
I was shut by that. Okay, So now for.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
One week I got did I got one more week
after that? Rob?

Speaker 5 (05:19):
All right, okay, okay, what is that.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
You craped back last You weren't as down as bad
as I am last year, I'll agree, but you did
creep back up and got us into the postseason and
then you won.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
So you never know, is all I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, okay, I'm not buying that, all right, Rob g
the Lakers embarrassment on Christmas Night, I mean, straight up
give us the details, because we had to hear from
that terrible head coach JJ Reddick.

Speaker 7 (05:41):
There they're calling the Lakers that grinch that stole Christmas
because that's how bad they were.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Can I say this too?

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Those videos some other good games, those videos of parents
who have the Grinch come and grabbed the kids and president.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
What is.

Speaker 9 (05:56):
You like?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
The kids were right, you would never do I would
never do that, would never do that.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
His wife would never daughters out there like that.

Speaker 7 (06:05):
That's terrible. You know what's funny is parents put their kids.
No y'all know Bo Bo want of the producers here
of Fox Sports Radio. He was saying like, hey, man,
are your girl's like giving you trouble heading into Christmas?
Said yeah, he's like, Man, the last week and a half,
you know, my daughter's been a real you know, that's
what happened to the girl. And he's like, so I
took her to the side and I said, hey, look,
you need to lock the f in right now because
that is this is crunch time. Sad is focused and

(06:27):
you're really fooling around. Gett your presents taken away. And
she's like and it apparently it changed the whole tune
in the last forty eight hours.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
So with that, yeah, I'm with that.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
But I'm just saying, haven't there for likes and follows.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
There was one kid who looked out the window and
he saw the grinch outside, and he free.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
He was like, I bet you was on his best behavior.
Though the rest of the week he freaked. He was like,
oh my god, like you know, like the grinches out
all right?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Well, now, worst part about it, Rob he gonna snuggle
up with his girlfriend in about ten years and she
can about who baby, let's turn on the movies.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
She's gonna turn on her.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Great around the PTSD like you see in.

Speaker 6 (07:10):
A rat big facts.

Speaker 7 (07:12):
Well, you know who's feeling PTSD this evening is every
Laker fan in Los Angeles because the team sucks right now.
They got blowed out three straight games. They lost six
of their last time. Hey yeah, and it was so
bad that after the game, JJ Reddick, very mild mannered
JJ Reddick, as you know, went scorched earth and his
entire roster.

Speaker 6 (07:33):
Take a listen.

Speaker 10 (07:34):
The two words of the day we're effort in execution,
And you know, I feel like when we've done both
of those things at a high level, we've been a
good basketball team, and we haven't. We're a terrible basketball team.
And tonight we were a terrible basketball team. And that
started legitimately right away because we don't care enough right now.
And that's that's the part that bothers you a lot.
We don't care enough to like do the things that
are necessary. We don't care enough to be a professional.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
You know, we had it, We had it.

Speaker 10 (07:58):
This is this is I always say this about, you know, culture,
I always say this about a team being a a
good team, being a functioning organism. It can change like that.
We don't have it right now. Again, it goes back
to what I said the other night. It's a matter
of making the choice. And too often we have guys
that don't want to make that choice. And it's pretty
consistent who those guys are. And so Saturday practice I

(08:19):
told the guys it's going to be uncomfortable. The meeting
is going to be uncomfortable. I'm not doing another fifty
three games like this.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
I got a couple of things real quick.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
Calvin, Yeah, first, and Rob g you said you heard
the rest of the press conference, right, It was just
a quick little blip, you know, a tea's journalism at USC.
I would not allow JJ Reddick to get up there
and paint a broad broad brush.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
Who are you talking about? JJ?

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Is it Luca? Is it Lebron? Is it Austin Reeves?
You gotta tell me who you're talking about. Okay, this
whole notion about they know who they are? Who are
the Okay?

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Yeah, he's on twice to You're right.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
I mean, come on, man, stop it.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
What reporters are sitting there allowing him to not have
to say say Lebron's name? I want to hear it
out of your mouth, say Luca out of your mouth.
And this guy is another He's a feat, a fraud,
and a hypocrite. Doc Rivers three two. Three years ago,
he ripped Doc Rivers on ESPN on first take about

(09:25):
not being accountable and always making excuses, and here he is.
You got three guys in a starting lineup, right, who
can't play defense, who won't play defense. But have you
made a change, Kelvin, Have you sat somebody down and said,
rob g, what's the stat don't they have? Like those

(09:47):
three guys together defensively is as bad as it gets
in the NBA?

Speaker 7 (09:53):
Yeah, I got what's worse is that they're starting lineup
so you include those three guys got Luca, Lebron, Austin Reeves, Deandreton.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
In seventy six minutes entery Christmas.

Speaker 7 (10:04):
It only got worse on Christmas, right, the Lakers starting
lineup being outscored by fifteen points, allowing one hundred and
twenty point seven points for under possessions. That would rank
worse than every NBA defense except the Jazz and the Wizards,
who are trying to lose.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
And kill the net's. My point is, you have this data. Okay,
you know what this is.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
If you're really trying to coach and make a difference, Lebron,
sit down, Austin Reeves like that together.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
You guys can't play together.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
I'm gonna have to break this up and put somebody
in there defensively who maybe not the offensive weapon, right,
but we need somebody to make some stops.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
You can't keep doing this. We know what Lebron is.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Did you watch the play yesterday where he stopped his
foot and yelled at the referee and didn't run.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
Back like time out?

Speaker 4 (10:58):
JJ, I day you to call to I'm out and
pull Lebron out of the game.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
I dare you. What doesn't happen? Luca? Oh look how great.

Speaker 7 (11:07):
He is.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
The people think that Luca is in the MVP conversation. Dude,
one dimensional and all. He doesn't even try to play defense.
He ain't no damn MVP.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I'm sorry what ever's saying Austin Reeves is in the
All Star consideration.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
But we got some breaking news right now, Robb G.

Speaker 7 (11:28):
Yeah, just in the last fifteen minutes or so, it
was really revealed that Austin Reeves has a grade two left.
Casting will be really reevaluating approximately four weeks, so you
won't see that starting line up anymore, Rob.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
So you aren't gonna see that. But but but Rob
sold a couple of things. I'm gonna jump in here.
Uh you mentioned a couple of things I want to
touch on, Rob G out of the stats that I
was gonna bring here. If you're JJ Reddick, I'm seeing
you us are out the same lineup seven times already
this season. That ain't doing nothing. That's on you. You know,
the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over

(12:03):
and over thinking a different outcome. That's you running out
this same lineup. That is you running out of lineup.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
That's a given. You got a forty one.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Year old who we know can't play defense, and it's
almost impossible for you even ask him to play defense
at the Raking, which you needed. We have a Luka
Doncis who has never been known to play defense. And
now you have those who play together and in Austin
Reeves and what do we like to bring up all
the time? Austin Reeves is the guy the other teams
pick at. That's the guy they go at. So you've
got three of them in the same lineup at the

(12:32):
same time. And DeAndre Ayden, who is not an overwhelmingly
a dynamic big man who blocks shots, changing shots and
is an enforcer. That ain't his thing. And then Ruy
is the middle of the way defender, not bad but
not great. So that's your start lineup. You've got a
few guys on the bench who compete, who put effort.
Marcus Smart, we know that that's literally where he's made

(12:53):
his fame name and acclaim he claim to fame. And
also you got Vanderbilt, that's what he does as well,
some of the guys who played great defense. You got
also Gay Vincin who's an effort guy and not say
he's a great defender. You have all them on the bench,
and that's to me the issue. Mix it up, bring
someone up the bench. Maybe you have to have a
grown up conversation with Lebron. It might be better if
you come up the bench. Also, Lebron has some of

(13:16):
the worst defensive ratings in this season, and we know that.
So JJ acting as if he's baffled by this. What
another name he needs to throw out there, if he's
gonna start throwing our names is Rob.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Polinka, Rob Linker. We see what's working in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
It's a bunch of young, energetic guys, don't care if
they play ten minutes to twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
It's like line shifts in hockey.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
I can throw in four to five guys, they're gonna
come in max effort. That's what's working in the NBA,
and we don't have that. Rob Polinka, you see what
trends are happening. You did not adjust. So if he
really also wants to throw some names out there, you
ask for Lebron, you ask for Luca to be called out.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Austin Reeves, call out Rob Polinka as well.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
JJ Reddick, because that team, as constructed ain't gonna compete
with the top notch teams.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
In the NBA at all.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
There's no doubt about it. And uh they're.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Letting teams score a rope five regularly, not like every
once in a while. Regularly teams are putting a one
to twenty, one to thirty on them.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
No doubt.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
All right, Uh, just just a bad it's it's bad.
But JJ just kills me. I just this is the
guy who's gonna know it all. He invented basketball, and
as you said, keep putting out all the same exact
lineup and and take accountability, and take accountability. He's the
one to rip Doc Rivers and and he wouldn't. I'll

(14:34):
Doc is always excuses. His excuse is is he's gonna
blame just the players. Do a better job, make some
lineup changes, put some defenders in. You can't just keep
playing the same people and then you're acting. You really
expect Lebron James all of a sudden play defense at
forty one years old.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Come on, man, scheme something up. Scheme something up.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
If you know, Rob, if I know I don't have
ball on man defenders, then I'm gonna have to We're
gonna have to have We've seen the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
Students gotta do something right.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Exactly when they had Dirk and some other guys, they
were like, we know we don't have the best. They
would run some zone out at there at times two
three zone three two zones, mix it up, some run
different plays like schematically switch it up, because if that's
what you got, that's what you got.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
All right.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, says, go to
Rob G, who's gonna read some of the odd mob comments?

Speaker 2 (17:21):
All you YouTube beans. What'll we got, Rob?

Speaker 7 (17:23):
Yeah, a lot of odd mob weighing in here. We'll
start off here with the Lakers conversation. Klay G says,
JJ Reddick is a very trash coach. He's the same
guy disrespected the level of competition and rip to Jerry
West and that said, tell me what JJ reddick career
sounded like?

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Fire?

Speaker 7 (17:40):
JJ Reddick lebron and Bronni Like, damn bro what did
Bronni do to get fired? He barely even played his
own business right, And this is my favorite. I've bena
saveing this once since the last hour. We did that
whole Lion's conversation on Jared Goff and Cosmo's Rat sixty nine.
By the way, Cosmo's Rat sixty nine in there right,
said Rob Parker was salivating for this take yesterday And

(18:03):
is that a Panda express cup?

Speaker 6 (18:05):
I thought you was out, Rob. I'm part of that
script counting situation.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Yeah no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
I don't want to get into it because we have
that much time. But well, I'll letch, I'll explain it
to you. Got number of time, No, we don't, All right,
rob g we got all these calls. People want to
jump in on the JJ Reddick.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Do nobody care about the call?

Speaker 5 (18:22):
Drew in New Jersey? You're the sports radio?

Speaker 6 (18:25):
What's up Drew?

Speaker 8 (18:27):
Hey, guys.

Speaker 12 (18:28):
I think JJ Reddick is still a phenomenal coach. I
just think that right now there's not there's not enough
athleticism on the wing. I think that, like I've been saying,
they needed trade Lebron that in New York, either good
O g Annobi or Miko Bridges, and I think he'd
waive his no tree cause to go to New York.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
All right, thank you asked you a question. Let's go
ask him or you can go. But just what makes
him phenomenon? I have not. If you're not on counting,
still gonna be good. I can understand that that's your nothing.
But I did it. He's phenomenal.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
It's not based on anything exactly, it's not based on anything.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
It's what is it based. I think he's on his way,
he's learning. I think he's got some good trades, Okay, cool, phenom.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Phenomenal based on what Rob g who else did you say?
I don't I don't have anything.

Speaker 7 (19:16):
Rob's not looking at his phone from what's in the
history of this show. Let's go to Tony in Minnesota.
You're on the eye couple of sport.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Then what's up, Johnny?

Speaker 2 (19:27):
What's up? Holidays?

Speaker 8 (19:30):
How you guys?

Speaker 9 (19:30):
Many Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I want to say
to y'all.

Speaker 12 (19:35):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Yeah, Marry Mary Christmas, Happy holidays to you too.

Speaker 8 (19:39):
This is what I gotta say about JJ Reddick.

Speaker 9 (19:43):
I think he's scared of Lebron. I really do. He's
scared of Lebron. He's scared of the Luca don chick,
and he's intimidated by them fellas because they know that
if he can't coach well enough, well what you got
the two best player? Okay, I can't say it too.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
No, no, no, no no.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
I get your point, and we appreciate the call.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Is that they have more stereo power than him.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
They have status. He has no status. What status does
he have? Zero?

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Lebron stomped his foot in that game after a call.
You didn't get the call boy a referee, and didn't
even run back. JJ Reddick, If you're that guy, and
you're that phenomenal coach, As Drew said, call time out
and say.

Speaker 5 (20:28):
Hey, Lebron, come here, come out, come out. I dare you.
Dare you to do it one time. I dare you.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
Wouldn't do it, Luca, come sit down. You just let
the guy blow by you and you didn't even put
your hands up.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
I dare you to do it.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
They won't do it. JJ won't do it. He's a talker.
Albert in Riverside, California. You're on the YDD couple of
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Albert?

Speaker 8 (20:54):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (20:55):
Guys?

Speaker 13 (20:55):
Happy merry Christmas? And it was not a good Christmas
for me?

Speaker 5 (20:59):
Yes, so I hear you?

Speaker 13 (21:02):
Yeah, man like like watching these games. The more I
watch the Lakers on defense, the more Rich Paul that's
the genius because he's right. They have no athleticism on
the wing. Their best three players in putting his client
by the way, hey let.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Me say this.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Let me say this. We didn't dispute what rich Paul said,
neither Kelvin or I. We just thought it was out
of place for him to say that publicly. That's it
for an agent to talk about how bad a team
is constructed.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
That was weird.

Speaker 13 (21:29):
For sure, Yeah, for sure, I got you.

Speaker 8 (21:31):
But like he's right, like, yeah, the best three players
on the Lakers.

Speaker 13 (21:34):
Can move the feet. Luca can moves feet, Lebron can
move his fee, Austin Reason now he's hurt, can move
his feet. And the only guy that can defend with
athleticism is on the bench, Jerry Vanderbilt. And he can't
score for a lick, So like, what can he do? Like,
we have no guys that can score and defense, dude,
they're all one dimensional.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
And SAJJ needed to say, Rob Plinker, he needed to say,
put some roplnker, you know, put some smoke on his name.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
This is what you gave me when I see was
working around the league, you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
All Right, So we got Stony gonna join us after
the break, right now, Steve the Sega gonna get a
set on what's trending.

Speaker 3 (22:08):

Mike Stone, better known as Stony how host on ninety
seventy one The Ticket in Detroit and you can give
him a follow to Stony sixteen and he endured the
first goal of being worked with Rob Parker. He shoots
me text messages. Robbins said, Hey, Kevin, I know what
you're dealing with. I know what's going on. Here's some advice.
Push dude, It's gonna be all right, Stony.

Speaker 12 (23:08):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Man?

Speaker 8 (23:10):
Come on, Kevin? How can you do this?

Speaker 5 (23:13):
Does that mean Stony?

Speaker 2 (23:15):
I thought it was you. I thought it was you.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Stony and I hosted The Odd Couple in Detroit back
in nineteen ninety four on the very first all sports
radio station in.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
The city of Destois, Yes, quick memories, yes, but Stony.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Let's get here with the Lions. I mean, you know,
I didn't think they were gonna make the playoffs. I
don't know where you were, you know, losing to coordinators
and then some other issues. Obviously, how shocked is the
city that the Lions aren't going to the playoffs?

Speaker 8 (23:47):
Overall, they're probably shocked. A few weeks ago, the writing
was on the wall that they'd have to do some
really incredible things losing to Pittsburgh. The hey they lost
was you know, far for the chorus. Look, I thought
they'd make the playoffs. I thought they'd make the playoffs,
but I thought they'd be ten and seven. Everybody knew
when you lose the coordinators. They won fifteen the year before.

(24:11):
And the thing that really hurt them more than anything
was rag Now retiring in June. You know, one of
the best centers in football, and that team was built
on their offensive line, and their offensive line was not
as good because of that and as lightly leaving as well.
And you know that's up. That's brat Holmes. They didn't
prepare for this. They should have known this is possible,
and that's what really killed them more than anything.

Speaker 4 (24:33):
So Tony, I'm gonna say this real quick that I
get to Pittsburgh loss and the way they lost, But
when they lost to Minnesota, Kelvin and I talked about that.
That was the game in Detroit where right JJ McCarthy
had just come back, and that was the game to
me that put them on the break.

Speaker 8 (24:53):
You're right, Rob, I mean I believe I don't have
in front of me. I believe they were four and
one and had a buy and came home after the bye,
and then when they played in Minnesota and that that
that doesn't usually happen. So yes, that was that was
the first sign. And then they went basically basically win
win loss, win loss, win loss, and everybody said, well,

(25:14):
this team's you know, they can't they don't lose back
to back games. Well they finally did, and you know
the writings on the wall. They have to have a
come to Jesus meeting, uh during the offseason and figure
out because they everybody knew they needed in another pass
rushing to go with Aid and Hunts and all. Brad
Holmes said, no, we're good, we'll bring back We'll bring

(25:35):
the band back together. Guys who were hurt Marcus Savin
for you know, all the names guys who they were
not aggressive in free agency and at the deadline, kind
of like every other team in Detroit. Really uh and
it's it's it's sad because they had a chance to
maybe improve and continue to run. Now. I don't think
the windows closed because all a lot of they're good players.

(25:58):
The core of the team still Sat Brown, Gibbs. These
guys are all fine long term and if they have
a good offseason, you know they should be.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
Okay, Tony, here's why I'm gonna push back and tell
you you're a Sugarnough Okay, Okay. Is Jared Golf can't
win big games. It's the reason the Rams got rid
of him last year. Nine and a half point favorites
at home. I don't care what he does during the
regular season. He wet the bed with four turnovers this
to keep your season alive. I'm not saying he's gonna

(26:30):
to keep your season alive against the third string quarterback
who threw for fifty one yards three net yards. Okay, right,
three net yards. He's the guy that you come up
and have five turnovers in a game like that.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
To keep your season alive.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
There's too many times of that stony where I don't
believe you can win a super Bowl with him.

Speaker 8 (26:56):
I won't take too many times he had here a
horrible game yes day. People forget that he did win
two playoff games two years ago. So it's not that
he sucks in big games. He had two bad games.
And the problem is he's a good he's a very
good quarterback. He's not elite, and people think you have
to be elite to win. And I'm not sure if

(27:18):
the other parts of the team played better, like the
offensive line, I think would have been Atony.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
You can't turn the ball over, even Washington, come on,
you can't, can't. You can't turn the boat.

Speaker 8 (27:31):
Bob, I said, he played horrible in those games, and
I said, he's good. He's not elite. Okay, so you
get rid of God?

Speaker 9 (27:37):
What do you do?

Speaker 5 (27:38):
Rob, I'm just telling you that you could, you could
do whatever.

Speaker 11 (27:41):
I know.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
People fear the unknown, just like you're setting up Stony,
But sometimes you got to.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Fear the known. He's the known.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
There's a reason that McVeigh, who everybody rants and raves
about he's an offensive genius, didn't want him anymore. Even
though he got them to the Super Bowl. Go back
to Jared Goff's regular season. They had the fifth greatest
offense in the history of the NFL. Go look it up.
They averaged thirty five points a game. Thirty five points

(28:10):
a game, and guess what they had in the Super Bowl.
They had an eighty nine yard field goal. That's all
they had. And that's when that's when McVeigh said, I
can't do this.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
No, I'm not gonna win.

Speaker 8 (28:22):
Okay, Rob who took him down the field in the
game winning drive in the NFC Championship game to get
him in the Super Bowl. So yeah, he had a
bad super Bowl. Look, you know you lived here. I
don't take Jared Gopp in a bad Super Bowl year.
I don't care.

Speaker 9 (28:38):
Good.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Look what I'm telling you, Stony, is that you're not
The Lions are not getting to the super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (28:42):
With Jared Goff.

Speaker 8 (28:43):
All right, that's you know what. I don't know what
else they can do to They trade Jared Gopp and
two number ones for Joe Burrows. That's the problem. The
kid take a fifteenth draft fifteenth and get a franchise quarterback.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
Well wait a minute, did you see what the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 4 (28:59):
Did they cut a guy with a big salary number
eighty five million in Russell Wilson and they went with
a rookie. I'm just saying, you don't have to just
stick with what you have when you realize you're not
gonna get where you're going to.

Speaker 14 (29:12):
There's nothing there this year, and Stony, I think my
point is that Jerry Goff is not the main problem
with this football team, Stony.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
Will they win a Super Bowl with Jared Goff?

Speaker 6 (29:25):
Yes or no?

Speaker 8 (29:26):
But win a Super Bowl probably not?

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (29:28):
All right, So what's the difference if you don't feel
if you told me no way he's gonna get it done,
then not have a different conversation.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
But you're not even but he ain't.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
He ain't Josh Allen, you're acting like people nobody said
he's that rob And it costs way too much money.
And also they're paired at the hip Dan Kevill and
Jared Goff getting rid of both Russell Wilson well rare
Russell Wilson and Sean Payton. They're not paid. They didn't
even like each other, so that was easier to get
rid of a guy than a guy that you like Stony,
I want to ask you switch Mike Stone as our guest. Stony,

(30:00):
of course, ninety seven want to take it in Detroit.
Let me ask you this same state, go at same sport,
different team. The Michigan Wolverine signed Kyle Whittingham, sixty six
year old, got a five year deal whole out of winning,
and he gave him a retirement fifteen. What do you
make of the signing? I thought, he's a perfect guy
to find your next guy. He's gonna compete for the

(30:20):
next four or five years, might even get you in
the Costball playoff championship.

Speaker 6 (30:24):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
He's been that great with Utah. Now he has resources
and money.

Speaker 8 (30:27):
What do you make You're exactly right. They locked into this.
I mean, this guy won't be called this guy won't
be calling only fans at halftime with games. They needed
somebody to just basically clean up this enema, this this
program that they needed an enema, and he can do it.
Is he gonna be the greatest coach? Now everybody considers

(30:48):
him a really good coach. I think it was the
right guy for the right time.

Speaker 5 (30:53):
Sixty six years old, they give him a five year contract.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
Well houses Rob Kurtz Signetti's sixty four. They think he
discovered football because.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
Of stony Stony. They didn't even want him at Utah.
After twenty one years they asked him. He was in
the transfer portal.

Speaker 8 (31:12):
That's the guy.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
That's the guy.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
That's the guy that Utah has had him for twenty
one years, and they were like, okay, thanks very much,
you can exit.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
Now, come on, man, now he has.

Speaker 8 (31:21):
Now he has nil money, can recruit better, Tony.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
They're gonna win the national championship too, You got that
all set? Yeah? At Michigan they've.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Won two one.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
They've won two national championships and one. Jim Harbord cheatah, Kevin.

Speaker 8 (31:35):
Here's the deal. If you can't win a championship, you
should fire every coach.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yes, so let me get Tony. You work with Rob Parker?

Speaker 8 (31:43):
Yeah, yeah, I know how many Pulitzers did you win?
Should you be fired?

Speaker 5 (31:50):
I'm in uh.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
I don't even want to talk about my accolade, So
I'll just stop there at that.

Speaker 6 (31:55):
I'll give you.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
I'll give you plenty of moments, Tony, and situations where
I would at the top of the list in my
profession and different things.

Speaker 5 (32:02):
That's all I'm gonna tell you.

Speaker 8 (32:04):
I know, I know that, but you missed the point.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
No, I didn't miss the.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
Point is that what what?

Speaker 1 (32:09):
What?

Speaker 5 (32:09):
I'm just telling you. You can do that all you want.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
I'm just shocked that that's all these other coaches, young
guys people, uh with uh? That that you feel better
about long term that you hire such an older guy.
That's all from Michigan, that's all. A sixty six year
old is a weird hire to me.

Speaker 8 (32:30):
Well, the Turtle all the time he was part of it.
They couldn't wait for Debor anymore. And Billy Ham. I
think they were afraid. You can criticize them if you
want for trying another young guy because I had that
with Sharon Moore. They were in a bad situation. They
look I think the athletic director should be fired first.
To be honest with you, I agree with that.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
I'm there with you all I want to Michigan.

Speaker 8 (32:53):
Michigan has turned into a chess bool. They got to
clean it up and Michigan. That's that's what this is,
Kevin tell it is right. It's a bridge. It's a
bridge coach four years all.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Right, that's what this will beast Dobe get the right guy.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
This is a clean up the ship, get the program
back squeaky clean, and then we'll move on to fine.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
When he when he's rushed to the hospital after a
pork chopped meal, didn't you come back?

Speaker 1 (33:18):
You hear this agees of Stony, the man acts like
he's twenty five years younger than him.

Speaker 8 (33:23):
I know, it's crazy. Wow young, he's younger than me, coach,
How old are you are you all? I know that
the Pistons and Red Wings are in first place and
the Lions gard in the playoffs. Twitterly their thumbs instead
of getting up there.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Well, I want to say this, Stony. I know your
birthday's coming up at the end of the months at
twenty ninth. Is it twenty ninth?

Speaker 8 (33:48):
Yeah, that's very good.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Come on now, I'm your partner that we we worked
together a long time ago.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
I still know your birthday is December twenty ninth, and
early happy birthday to you, okay, buddy, early.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Happy birthday. And he doesn't want you to do anything
else Tony, because you're too old.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
According to him, Hey, Stony, no pork chops on your birthday. Okay,
I want you around all right?

Speaker 8 (34:11):
Is it pork chops on kosher.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
That's a good point to you said, no, Rob, come
on now, that's right.

Speaker 14 (34:17):
Thank you, Tony, appreciate it any time, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (34:22):

The Philadelphia Eagles in Buffalo taking on Josh Allen and
the Bills.

Speaker 6 (37:03):
Bills one and a half point home favorites. Rob Parker.

Speaker 4 (37:07):
I'm gonna take the Eagles in this one. The Bills
have won like fifteen out of sixteen. Is time for
a loss at home?

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Yeah, but I'm gonna go to the Bills.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
They're trying to get right in as they can move
forward into the playoffs, keep things rolling.

Speaker 4 (37:20):
And the Eagles still aren't they playing for something. Number
two poles.

Speaker 6 (37:24):
Everybody's playing for something this week. Here's a tough one,
all right.

Speaker 7 (37:27):
Game Number four picks can pick off Sam Darnold Seahawks
seven point road favorites in Carolina against the Panthers.

Speaker 6 (37:33):
Calvin Washington Seahawks.

Speaker 5 (37:36):
I'm gonna take the Panthers. They think lose, but cover. Yeah,
they cover that. That's seven and a half. They're better
than the.

Speaker 6 (37:43):
Big game for them. If they win, they clinched the division.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
