My man Martin Weiss is in for Rob on a
Magic City Monday. Thanks for rocking winners. Make sure you

Coming up in about thirty minutes or so, Mike pritch Pritchard,
former NFL tight end NFL analyst CiU Alum, he's gonna
join us in a little bit. We'll talk some of
the NFL headlines with him and just a bit looking

(00:49):
forward to that, and we'll have last call. By the way,
and speaking of calls, we will take some calls on
this next topic, Martin, because it's one of those just
interesting one that's been going around a little bit. And
I'll throw it to you in just a minute. But
right after the show again, check out the pod is
gonna be going up. If you miss any of today's show,
be sure to listen to the podcast. Just search Odd

best of version posted right after we get off the air.
All right, So I wanted to do this a little
bit the last week. We didn't really get a chance
to so interesting conversation that Jokic leads perfectly into. So

(01:34):
the conversation was basically around when Scheffler wins again, he
wins another tournament. They started to look at some of
the Scott Scheffler the numbers and he's on pace right now. Again,
this sounds crazy saying out loud, but some of the
stuff he's doing is the same timeline as Tiger Woods
once he's got started winning, and the rate in which

(01:55):
he was winning some big tournaments.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
And so it's like the same thing as Shane Mahomes
is on a Brady track. There's a long way to go,
but you got ignowledge the effects he is, and so
Jordan Speith, who was that guy for a hot year
or two, talked about that. He said, look, man, he
doesn't like to kind of embrace that. You know, you're
the man, the Mantle jors, you know, big up the

(02:18):
league he's written. And within the week before that, I
think you and I talked about that with Scotty Scheffer talking,
Hey man, I just kind of want to golf.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
His bigger things. My family matters. You know, I have
things that I care about. I want to be good.
I work hard at it. I'm a niacole about that.
But at the end of the day those this isn't
as fulfilling me winning the Masters as you know, being
home and there's other things that fulfill my life. Sure,
So Jordan Speed kind of echoed those sentiments about his
friend Scotty. Scotty Chefley said, I'm with him. I know
how he is, I know how he operates. And it

(02:45):
tied us into what just happened over the weekend as
Nicoleokin superstar in the NBA, is once again a champ.
That's because he is a horse owner. We all know that.
At racing event in his native of Serbia where his
horse is the winner, and the funny memes, funny jokes,
all the stuff came out of it because everybody was like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,

(03:07):
wait wait, this man has got the biggest bottle of champagne,
spreading it on the horse, going crazy, spraying himself and
high five and a couple of years back on the
NBA title and was like, yeah, that's cool, cool, yeah, no, no,
no doubt, no doubt. Yeah, I'm excited. Woa yeah, wait,
can't wait to get back to my horses. Now we

(03:27):
see you win his horses and they win, and he
was excited, and so he was going crazy, and it
got me to thinking. And this is why I said,
we'll take some phone calls on this one too, Martin.
Do you feel that the superstar or the head of
a league or a you know, franchise or a sporting event, whatever,
is obligated to kind of take on that mantle. He's

(03:49):
so here's what I mean. Golf has been looking for
their tiger Woods. Remember he was really bad for a
while then he kind of popped back up twenty nineteen
is but they were looking is it Jordan's speed? Is
it gonna be Roy maclroy, He's gonna be who is
and then oh hey, caim me, Scotty Shuff and Scotti
Scheffer kind of saying, no, I want to be good,
but I don't want all of that. I don't want
this to be my life. I enjoyed fulfillment Elsewhere. We

(04:10):
go to the NBA, who's the best player, most people
will say Nakole okicch for the hand last handful of years.
We know he ain't trying to embrace all that that
comes with that. He's just kind of I want to
be really good. I want to try to win with
my team and go home and race horses, and now
I have champion horses. Naomi Issaka Hers is a little different,
you know. She was she was getting right there to
kind of be the new face of tennis, and she

(04:31):
stepped back. She knows very vocal about her challenges and
mental health, and then she became a mother as well.
Uh so she she's kind of didn't that just didn't
work out. So I say all that to say, do
you believe that you have to be that? If you're
Mike Trout, A lot of people wanted more from him
when he was kind of the guy more from me, more,
be more vocal, do more. You're Mike Trumt. You arguably

(04:53):
be one of the best of her. We want more
from you. And when I thought about this, to me,
there's a few things that kind of have to have happen.
I don't think you can manufacture it. I think some
things just happen, whether it's fate, whether it's God, whether
it's just you know, you embraced it in the league.
And then timing of things. I'll give you a couple examples,
and then I want you to jump in on this.

(05:14):
The NBA is flailing. We got stars, but we don't
have a face of it. I don't know what's going on.
We got Kareem, we got this person, we got all
these big star George Gervirett. It ain't really working well.
Then you get Magic, Then you get Larry Bird. Two
guys who couldn't be in a different ones kind of
to himself and the other lou smiling, wants to be
the life of the party. One goes to Boston, hardworking,

(05:35):
blue collar on the East coast. One goes to the
West coast, Hollywood. And you got these two guys, different personalities,
different ends of the coast, different you know, styles, one
more of a passer, one's more of a score, and
it ended up being the greatest thing that could have
ever happened to the NBA. You couldn't oh, I lef
about the headline. They just played in the biggest national
championship game. Will never see numbers like that again, thirty

(05:55):
some bi million people watching. So you have that happen.
And then you look at guys Lebron. His name is
James King, James, he's a chosen one. He's from Akron,
right near Cleveland, who has a number one pick Cleveland.
We don't know how to happen. But my point is
it just happens, and he happens to be good, and
now you got the guy facing the league. I think
things have to sometimes you can't just force it. There

(06:18):
has to be storylines. Tiger Woods is a person of color.
He's black, he's the Asians. This he has a story,
he has an interesting name. He's Tiger. He's doing stuff
we hadn't seen. He's aggressive, he's fist pump, and he's
fiery out there. You can't design that, you can't force that.
So I believe you can't force a Scheffler if he
doesn't want it, and Naomi Osaka she's kind of going
through mental health things in motherhood. Jokis he kind of

(06:40):
just doesn't have it. And for the NBA like that,
I don't believe you can force it. I think things
just happen where your face, your star, the person takes
the league by storm and we all watch and enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I mean, it's absolutely what happens is generally there will
be some mark or moment of firestorm. And you think
back to the last person who generated this type of feeling,
and it was Kaitlin Clark and Angel Reese. It was
the moment if you go back to the beginning of
this of when this became transcended just women's basketball to

(07:14):
now becoming a national story, and it was when Angel
rees and LSU and bounced Caitlin Clark out of the tournament.
She did the Aaron Donald ring me move, and all
of a sudden, Joe Biden is, maybe should we should
invite the losers to the White House is and the
winners because everybody tried, right, like, that's now time. Ever,

(07:37):
right now it becomes this whole big discussion, right, so
there's a flashpoint moment.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
I got like Jokic the thing that I honestly I
kind of resent.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Because if it is true that this is the case,
then these people are just God was cheating when he
made them compared to me. But I don't think you
can be as good at basketball as Jokich is, are
as good at golf as Scotty Scheffler is, especially as
good as golf individually as Scotty Scheffler is, to and
not have an intense and insane level of dedication drive

(08:13):
motivation for sure, right that doesn't exist. You cannot get
that good without having that because just the drive to
get up and do it again and again and again,
and that is repetition that gets you to be able
to get to that level.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
So I think Scotty.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Scotty's statement is more, do I want to put in
the time it takes for me to be as consistently
great as I am in this while like my kid
is taking his first steps, Like that's a real thing,
especially for a guy who's.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Won that much.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
But for Jokic, I think that we just downplay the idea, like, yeah,
he looked really happy, he looked really really happy, and
he was celebrating, but you know what, he also didn't
do he wasn't fresh off of one hundred some odd
bas basketball games of getting his ass kicked. You watch
Jokis look like one of them from the last to
us after a game, because he looked like he's about

(09:09):
to turn right like or like he was fighting off
a werewolf instead of it.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Was just the seven players are using to defend him.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
So like, yeah, maybe after the finals he's like, I'm
tired of hell man, And you know what, maybe the
NBA is not the biggest deal for him. I bet
you if he said this to Yo kid, said listen
all your MVPs, I'll spot to another championship in the NBA,
would you trade them off for a gold medal for Serbia?
You watch that start and five documentary on Netflix. I
bet you, and he'd do it in a heartbeat. Wouldn't

(09:37):
think twice, wouldn't blink twice?

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Absolutely not.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
So he has a intense level of passion and desire.
But it's also too like you can have fun doing
other things without a doubt. And I think too, you
brought to a great point.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
I think there's something to we kind of we get
into it with when we have our Olympic teams and whatever.
They don't care the sport. We all get into it
and we don't care about Typically, we don't care about
swimming till it's the limp. Typically we don't care about
track and feel like that until the Olympics, so on
and so forth. But I do feel like other countries
we forget they're kind of working here. They get a

(10:12):
visa to come work, but really home is home for
them if you give it. I mean, like Luca's here,
he's in La He's in Hollywood, but this ain't home.
Lithuania is home for him. Serbia is home for Yokich,
you know, you name the player. Home is home. I
got a second home here, I got a nice crib.
Maybe I met my wife here, I met my girlfriend.
But home is home. And I think sometimes we forget

(10:32):
for these players. They're spending so much time away from Grandma,
sure her mom, from my favorite uncle, for my best
friend who couldn't come with me because he's got his
own family back in Serbia or back in Argentina, or
back in Germany or back in Cameroon. And I think,
so it's not that I don't care, and not that
I'm not all in, but you just mentioned it. That's

(10:54):
why those France teams have so much pride, like I
love it here, but France is home, you know, And
when they get to those international games, they're like, man,
this is my guys, just for the country. I'm all in.
And I think we sometimes forget like, no, you're in NBA,
this better be the greatest and the biggest thing in
your life. And you're like, yo, man, basketball is I
love the game, but I'm away from home for so long.

(11:16):
And I think we sometimes forget that and can understand that.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
And there's a real pride of country, a real patriotism
from their individual countries. You think you think Team Slovenia
left weights. You think maybe if you caught Luke on
the Olympic year, he might work out in the offseason.
Well maybe you'd hope. You hope, so you hope. Because
that's the thing about jokis, like, seriously, when people kind

(11:39):
of say he doesn't like you've seen him now, has
his body improved? I'm not.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
I'm not gonna sit here and say that.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
He you know, looks like Anthony Edwards without a jersey on, right,
But you can watch him run up and down the court.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
You can watch him not get tired.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
You can watch him play forty five minutes in a
double overtime game, and he he's got He's the one
with the gas left right. You can watch, you're seeing that,
and so it's like, yeah, he loves, he loves, he
loves the game. Got a doubt, but like it's a
lot more fun racing horses and drinking champagne and being
with your fans being hit.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Then you're got you man, Hey, let's open this up.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We'll go open
the calls up. And it just kind of one of
those simple questions. You know, do you feel it's they're
obligated to continue to grow the game? You're Scottie Scheffler.
We've been looking for our tiger Woods since he's been
you know, heard and never quite the same.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
We need you.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Do you feel they owe it to the game? Oh,
it to the fans to kind of embrace it more,
to show more themselves, to be out there, to be
frontman if you will front women. Do you want if
in his prime? Did you want more from Mike Trout?
Do you want more from Jokis to you know, or
whomever it may be. Maybe even a little bit more
from Luca eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Do
you expect the pros and the faces of leagues and

(12:56):
franchises to give you a little bit more to keep
the league going, to keep a franchise going and bring
some more of the attention to the sport? Or are
you okay with how some of these superstars are just
kind of playing hard and going home? Eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox. Will take some of the calls.
It is the odd couple Martin and for Rob kelvin

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to. And that's why we have a brand
new podcast called over Promised. You see, we're having so
much fun in our two hour show. We never get
to everything, honestly, because this guy is over promising.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
Things we never have time for.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, you blubber this lame in me.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
Well, you know what, it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Called over Promised.

Speaker 6 (14:10):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 7 (14:20):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
It is the Ocup. I'm Kevin Washington, Martin Weiss with
me and for Rob Rob be back Wednesday. Thank you
guys for hanging out with us on this Magic City Monday.
Mike Pritch, former receiver in the NFL. NFL analysts now
getting ready to join us in a little bit about
eight minutes or so, looking forward to that. You got
aching and ease? What about a stiff back, your joints
not cooperating, don't worry. Some days your body's like nope,

(14:55):
we got to cure for you. On those days. Luckily
there's a leave and with just one pill the lead,
he provides up to twelve hours of pain relief, so
you can keep it moving. Please use ads directed. So
Martin and I gonna take some calls, just asking you
do you want more from people who are kind of
the face of lead. Do you want more from Kaitlyn Carr?
Do you want more from a Yo Kids? Or do
you want more from a Scotti Scheffler? People who you

(15:16):
know kind of are the ones of us, for they're
the one, you know, the lead and you want to
see him rep the league more, help push the league.
Or are you okay with kind of how they handle
things and are in their own little world, own little
cocoon if you will eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox to take some calls. Let's go to Johnny in Minnesota. Johnny,
what's up? You're over the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Hey,
what's what's up, Johnny.

Speaker 8 (15:39):
I gonna say, yeah, sometimes they do gotta want to
be the face of league, but they don't have to
be obligated to do it, you know, and they want
to they want to be proud to do it, you know,
not just be Oh, I gotta do this because everybody's
telling me. You're gonna do it because you are the
best person on your franchise, the best person in Nicolojoki,

(16:00):
the guy that's raising.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Horses up and.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Wherever.

Speaker 8 (16:03):
That's Serbia, Serbia, that's beautiful. You may not even Friday
joge that and missing home and son. It all comes
to it.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Yeah, I appreciate the call, Johnny. Yeah, I mean that's
his thing. But again, some people might say, you know,
you kind of gott to own and and help prop
up the league that's paying you.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
I'd say that's the thing. I would say, there is
an obligation.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
The obligation is the money that you make, because the
reality of the situation is you make the money from
the fans, So there is some level of like you
got that's why you do post games and pre like
so fans can hear what you have to say yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Let's go take some more calls A seven seven ninety
nine one. Foxes go out to Eric in Austin, Texas. Eric,
you are on with the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up?

Speaker 9 (16:44):
What's up?

Speaker 10 (16:45):
What's up?

Speaker 9 (16:45):
Mark?

Speaker 8 (16:45):
Now you gotta do it doing good man, Man.

Speaker 10 (16:48):
So here's the thing, Like, I feel like they don't
owe us anything more than what they give us anytime
they step on the court, the field, the grass, whatever, like,
and that's the you know, show with the god given
ability that they've worked for, they've been training for it,
and then it shows that that the absolute best in
the word of what they do. I feel like they
give more to the game by being authoritically themselves. You
know what I'm saying, Like, you'll get just a unicorn legit.

(17:10):
This man is the best basketball payer in the world.
He has a triple doben in sleep and then he
just wants to go right off into the sust that
with his horses in survey. You know what I'm saying, Like,
you don't get that from everybody. So I feel like
by they're just being authentically themselves, whether they want to
be from face in front of the caemras or they
just kind of want to hang back. If they're the
best of the word of what they do, it's kind
of like they already have that love of like man,

(17:31):
like that magnetism. You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
I think there's more to be had. I totally get
what you're saying. I appreciate the call. What I would
add to that Martin and Eric as well is I
do think there's an element of where it doesn't have
to be the person, it can be the league, meaning
a great a great example. I'm be mad if they
would ever do this, because I'm about to say it
on Aaron. I always been holding on to it. I

(17:54):
think baseball miss not having some commercials unless I miss
something with Jose five to two bays what I call them,
Jose five to two Vane and Aaron Judge, you got
one dude who's literally five five five six one dude
six seven six eight. Where is the Twins commercial, Danny
DeVito and Arnold? Where is the campaign for now five
years we could have had, you know what I mean

(18:15):
of twins?

Speaker 3 (18:16):
You could even done like one of the Baseballs for Everyone,
Baseballs for everyone, giants and little guys like it doesn't matter,
but to me, I go back, so with Yo kicch.
Maybe there's some pony express something, there's something you can
do that. Hey, we're not asking you to be out
of character, per se, will just build around you. Maybe
the marketing angle as good as used to be in
the nineties when any day of everything, when they would

(18:37):
find that thing and make that. Had a lot of
conversations about this with one of my I don't want
to put her out there, but she works for a
big shoe company, and I was like, what, like Bo
knows was not because Bo Jackson was some gregarious personality,
you know, saying little Penny was not because Penny Hardaway.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Two great examples. Neither one of those are mister personality.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
These were people that were essentially built through commercials, right,
that's all they got and all of that.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
So, yeah, that's what I mean. There's some other ways
to do. Let's go out to Vegas, bab Las Vegas,
Bob and Vegas Rode the Odt couple of Fox Sports Radio.
I guess yeah, I say it, Bob. Well, we went
to Isaac, So we go row with Isaac. Sorry Bob,
Isaac and Utah.

Speaker 11 (19:18):
Next, Hey, what's up, guys, do you hear me.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, we got you, Bob. We want our way about.
Don't go nowhere a Bob. What's up, Isaac?

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (19:25):
Two things? So One, the league doesn't pay Yokics, right
Denver does. Do you think Denver wants their money back?
I don't particularly think they do. He brought them a championship.
He's a fantastic player. I think they think it's worth
it the tending. The second thing, here's what I think.
I think jokicch and Scheffler and these guys are doing
society and us a favor by showing you can be
great and still go home and have a life no matter.

Speaker 8 (19:45):
I think.

Speaker 11 (19:45):
I think you can't say winning is everything and then
get mad at the Houston Astros when they do what
they do. So these guys that play with integrity, play
with heart, and then have stuff they care about that
they can go home to.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
I think it's a huge example and in a great favor. They'
didn't force love.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
A GreatCall, Isaac. I appreciate it, man. Good point there.
Let's go down to Bob again. I think Bob, Bob's
there we go, Bob, we got you this time. A couple.

Speaker 9 (20:11):
I'm sorry about button in there to the whole number
one in the world, greatest in the world. Hey, listen,
some people just aren't wired to wear that crowd. Remember
a golfer, Remember a golfer named David Duvall.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
Yeah, yep, number one in the world.

Speaker 9 (20:28):
He couldn't handle it. He walked away from golf.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
He'd be a multi millionaire today.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
He just couldn't handle being number one in the world.
He wasn't David Davall anymore. He was number one golfer
in the world, David Duvall. And he's like, man, I
just want to be David daval. You don't call my
buddy insurance Bob Orson, and I want to be David Daval.
And he quit golf because he just wasn't wired to
handle it, and some people weren't.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Yeah, hey, thanks for the call, Bob. I think an
example I brought up will be Naomi Osaka. You know,
she's been very vul about mental health challenges and trying
to work through that and find her way, and and
then of course mother brought uh in a baby and
now she's a happy mother. So she's kind of done
with a lot of people don't get to do kind
of do it her own way and be vocal about
getting her, you know, mental health help and just being

(21:18):
paying attention to that. So you do have folks who
have focused on that. I appreciate the call everybody, We
really do, thank you so much. We got Mike pritch
on the Pritchard on the other side for a wide
receiver in the NFL NFL analyst. Now we're gonna talk
some NFL action with him and some of the stories
and headlines. Right now, we're gonna get your updated with
Steve the Sacred. Hey, Steve, Steve, so good Steve, do

on the way?

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Because will Ves hit him with the pitch in the
ninth inning that's supposed to be the Tiger's new third basement.
They're playing each other. Is will Vest like lowering the
price Forarez?

Speaker 4 (21:54):
She's gonna get x Rayce. That was the update. That's it.
It's sore.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
Yes, I saw one tweet that said he didn't have
it wrapped, but he also wasn't bending it. This is important.
The Tigers just won the game for the first time
in a month.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
Third Basement.

Speaker 2 (22:06):

City Monday?

Speaker 1 (22:44):
While you get so excited? While you get so excited,
that's the problem hanging out with Lloyd Howell out there
in them streets.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
I just you know, you know, thinking about Atlanta. My
first first two years in the league, I was in Atlanta.
I didn't know you tagged the show Magic City Monday.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Man.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
That's that's tight. I like it.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
I bet you do. The smile here. Memories, boy, got
some memories out there. Well, well, listen, we every day
is a theme here. It's like I just run through.
We got Magic City Monday, we got trash Talking Tuesday,
Worship Wednesdays. Don't ask how worship Wednesdays go with Magic
City Monday. We got TV things on Thursday, and flash

(23:19):
Bunkie Flashback Friday. So every day is a theme right here.
So yes, you called on a you could argue it
was a funny flashback Friday for you too. You had
some flashbacks there. Let's let's get into this.

Speaker 9 (23:30):
Man.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Is there so much going on now that we're in
training camp. There's you know, a few different headlines, a
few different stories there. I would have start with one.
We were talking a little bit earlier about this with
Caleb Williams and what's going on there in Chicago. They're excited, right,
they got their guy. Now they have offensive Guru and
Ben Johnson. Just tell me about how when you get
a new coach, when you get a guy with a

(23:53):
new different philosophy, a new mindset, a new approach, how
difficult is it? What's the adjustment like going to be
like for the team? And as they're trying to he's
trying to adjustice them, but they're also trying to adjust
to him. And we see how timing and how unique
and special his offense is watching them his time with
the Lions.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean I think expectations are going to
definitely go up. You think about Caleb in his second year,
you think about Chicago and polls, what he's done with
the personnel on that roster. Now you bring in Ben Johnson,
the hottest coach candidate that was out there, expectations is
going to go up. You know, he's familiar with the
division obviously being in Detroit, and I think for Caleb,

(24:33):
he just needs to make sure that he's comfortable with
what he's doing out there, understanding the expectations, which I mean, look,
he's coming from SCD. He had high expectations out there
as well, but now you got to calm yourself down.
You got to make sure you understand this offmans. She's
got to make sure you can execute this offense. And
same thing with Ben Johnson. I mean, he's got to

(24:53):
establish that credibility that he had in Detroit. You know,
it's the new locker room and these guys are looking
up to him. Certainly he was coveted, but at the
same time, he's got to earn that credibility. In that
locker room, and so once he does that, I think
it all comes together. So training camp is that's what
it's all about, Fellas. I mean, you got to get

(25:13):
that continuity going, and he's certainly that trust, but more
importantly the credibility and respect that you deserve out there
or that you earn that that's needed on game day.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Mike, now Mike Pritchell joining us on ahigh couple Martin
Wis and for Rob Parker with Kelvin Washington. Mike, you
had a nine year career, played for three different teams,
so I imagine at some point you ran into this
scenario having a first year head coach or seeing first
year even coordinators or even a position coaches that our

(25:44):
first time on the job. And I don't I put
it like this. I have no experience. I've never played
in the NFL. Nobody ever wanted me to play sports
worth the damn at all. So my only context of
training camp is the reports that I read and the
things that I hear coming out, and that's how I
contextualize it all. I was a little like, huh when
I found out that Ben Johnson pulled the first team

(26:05):
offense off the field, day one talking about that respect
and kind of building that accountability like it to me
felt like something that I put it in my file.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
I don't know if I'm putting every like. I don't
know how big the file is going to be. But
week four, if Ben.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Johnson is not saying like they lose a game something
like that, and he's not like, yo, this is my bad,
I'm gonna remember that he pulled the team off the
field week one day one training camp.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Am I over Am I over doing that?

Speaker 5 (26:32):
Or no, no you're not. You know, like I said,
you know, he's coming from an environment where you know
they were they were bite kneecats right here in Detroit, right,
I mean, the head coach was wound up. And that's
what Ben Johnson knows. You know, in Chicago, you're leaving
eber Flusen now you're going to this. And so there's
gonna be a transition from what Ben Johnson's used to

(26:55):
from a coaching standpoint to what he's trying to establish.
Now I get it. He's trying to establish a certain mindset,
a certain expectation, like we just talked about. But it's
going to take some time. You can't just automatically go
to ten on a new group of fellas in the
locker room that are professionals that are getting highly paid
as well. So you're right. I mean, I think there's
always that transition. And I'll give you a quick story

(27:18):
about it. You know, I'm leaving, I'm in Seattle, and
we're leaving from Dennis Erickson, who won a national championship
in college, certainly, but didn't really get the job done
up there in Seattle. And then here comes Mike Homegren.
And so this first thing you do when you see
Mike Homegren walk into the locker room or to the
meeting room, is you get to the edge of your seat.
You're sitting up. You don't want any doubt in his

(27:40):
mind that you are not paying attention, because that guy
has done it. He's got the credibility. He's won Super Bowl, right,
He's coached at the highest level, he's coached everywhere, all
these legends, and so now you are part of that,
and you want to make sure that you give that
to him, that you understand what his expectations are. So
if you're Johnson, you still have to weigh what that

(28:01):
locker room is like before you get the level ten
on him and pull them off the field. Right, You
got to find out what everybody's about. So I hope
he does that. I hope he takes the time to
do that, or we're gonna run into a situation where
we see those head coaches that are just that are
just amped up on the sideline to emotional, have risks

(28:21):
with their players and certainly can't get along and they
don't respect them. And I don't care how good you
are with the x's and o's, if you can't get
guys to execute, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
He is Mike Fritch Richard. He is joining the odd couple.
He was former receiver in the league, NFL analyst. Now
he's covering and I want to ask you a little
bit about this one. Help me understand Shador Sanders fifth
round pick, first second round, mavy third round prospect and
talent wise and was ahead of a handful of the
quarterbacks that were taking above him. But he goes to

(28:51):
a place with a crowded quarterback room in the Browns.
Now we know, of course, Kenny Prickett is injured and
pulled hamstring issues over Saturday, Joe Flacco getting all the
first round, first team reps today, What do you make
of this situation where he hasn't He's been the only
one in Shoulder who hasn't gotten any first round, first
team reps. They're talking about they might only carry three quarterbacks,

(29:14):
which he could be the eye man out. But from
everything we've heard, he's doing outstanding eighty percent of his
passes barely you know, I think, no income, barely any incompletions, interceptions,
all of that. He's been saying the right things publicly.
What aren't they seeing from him? Or as a matter
of just simply you are a fifth round pick and

(29:34):
that's just the way it is.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Well, yeah, I mean I think there's a hierarchy, if
you will, with Cleveland and what they're trying to do.
I mean they still got Shaun Watson whatever his situation
is going to be, and then Flacco with familiarity certainly
there as well, and then Pickett. I mean Pickett is
in a situation where he's trying to prove himself, and
then you draft Shuder and Gabriel. So it is crowded,

(29:58):
you know what those fellas. Every locker room is crowded.
I think if you're drafted higher up, you probably get
the benefit of the doubt. But I'll remind you. I'll
remind you Atlanta drafted Brett Favre in the second round,
and Brett fav sat behind Chris Miller and Billy Till,
Tulliver right and and some others. You know, he was

(30:19):
way down there on the depth chart in Atlanta. Now
it didn't matter because obviously he got out of there
and the rest is history when he got another opportunity
with Green Bay. So I'm not saying Chador's book is
all in Cleveland. I mean, I think Shadoor can find
himself in another situation. But what he needs to do
is learn how to be a pro, understand the situation
that he's in, and I prove everybody wrong, you know,

(30:42):
And I'll say it this way too, fellas. I think
with Deshaun Watson's health history, with Flacco's age, Pickett already
banged up with a hamstring, I mean, the chances of
Shador Sanders playing in Cleveland sooner than later, I think
are pretty good. We'll see. I mean, it's a long
camp just started, it's a long year. He's got to

(31:03):
win the job. He's got to earn the job. And
if he does. I mean, I think his upside is tremendous.
To be honest with you, guys, I agree.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
I don't. Again, I've been shocked that he went that far,
and I've been telling him I don't see why they
don't put him higher up. You already know Joe flackoways
he ain't your future. Can't you pick it? I don't think.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
I think it's something that they just do it now.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
It'll be the biggest news story of the day in July.
And it's like, I get that's why they probably don't.
But I got one more for you, Pritch, I want
to ask you. I know the Steelers didn't have training
camp today because Cordell Patterson said he got released on
his day off, so Aaron Rodgers probably also had the
day off. But we're just that's kind of like one
of the feel good stories of camp right now. You know,

(31:44):
as we are in that first couple of days of camp,
how Aaron Rodgers looks on the ball at Pittsburgh.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
How do you think it ends in Pittsburgh this season
with the addition of Rodgers. This is a dk Metcalf
and Jayalen Ramsey.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
I mean, Aaron Rodgers is supposed to look good throwing football, right,
I mean, he's a legendary quarterback. But but the results
have not been what teams have wanted from Aaron Rodgers,
in particular with the Jets. I mean, now he finds
himself in Pittsburgh, and I can't I'm not going to
try to predict the future this but this could be
tomlins last year there. I mean there's a lot of

(32:19):
age on that roster too, so you're you're looking at
a team that is formed with players with some big names.
But yet in Pittsburgh, you know, you're always talking about
the playoffs, You're always talking about winning that division. So
I don't know what's going to happen. I don't know
how to look at Aaron right now, a rod and
see what he's doing. And you know, I love the

(32:42):
pair up certainly with DK and I love the fact
that they seemingly have the players that they want. But
they are old. Uh but so is Baltimore though, you
know all those other teams and anyway, we just talked
about Cleveland in the situation right there. So if Aaron
Rodgers can turn back time and be consistent, get along

(33:03):
with the fellas in the locker room the way that
he needs to. Uh, there could be some magic out
there in Pittsburgh. I do know somebody put on a
big bet. This came through X that somebody threw down
ten thousand dollars on Pittsburgh to win the Super Bowl.
So there's some people out there that believe in the
Steelers and we'll see how the season goes.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Though you didn't have to call Rob Parker out. You
don't have to call him out. Parker. We knew it.
We was gonna keep a secret, you know what I mean.
Then you brought it up there, Mike. We appreciate you, man,
thank you for your time.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
Hey, I appreciate you guys.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
I can't believe. Actually, I'm mad. I can't believe he
put the Steelers up there with the Ravens. You talk
about one team that's going to in like thirteen games,
one that I don't things I'll make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
I think he was referencing the fact they're in the
same division. No more those I didn't put it in.
I'm mad at Pittsburgh right now.
