Let's get this, punnies, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
All right.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
It is the ID Couple Chris and Rob live from
the tire rag dot com studios.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Tirerag dot com will help you get there.

They've got an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road,

Tirerag dot Com is the way tirebind should be, and
the ID Couple, of course, is the way sports talk
radio should be. Rob, we got Jim Peterson of Bali
Sports North. He's the Timberwolves television analyst, so it'll be
(01:04):
great to have him join us to talk about this
team from Minnesota that's making a lot of ways in
the NBA. As far as the other playoff game, of
the one playoff game being played tonight right now, it
is twenty five to twenty in the favor of the
(01:26):
New York Knicks in Indiana, Rob, they stood an early
rally from the Pacers and now they're up by five
late in the first quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Long wile ago. Yep, yeah, yep, definitely.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
All right, Rob, rob G, come in here. We just
had Jared Goff get paid. They didn't have to pay him.
They could have let him play play it out another year,
but they went ahead and extended him. It is the
season for that. Trevor Lawrence with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Will
he get paid? There are a few other guys out there,
(01:59):
like to a Jordan Love, Rob G kind of paint
the picture. We want to focus on those to Jordan
Love in Green Bay, to a tongue of old viol
Valola in Miami, Rob G tell us kind of summarize
their situations as Rob and I get into it.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Well, the situation is there's not a whole lot going
on with either guy because, according to several different reports,
first off, with Jordan Love, ESPN's Adam Schefter is plugged in,
as Anyone reported earlier this week that while both sides
are expected to continue talking, Yeah, I don't want to
say it, didn't want to say it. Well, there's supposed
to be the two sides that we'll continue talking here
(02:36):
throughout the offseason. They are not anywhere close to getting
an extension done with Jordan Love. That's for a number
of reasons, the biggest one being that he's only started
for one season and he's only really played well for
half of that, so there is some kind of confusion
at both sides to what the appropriate number would be. Obviously,
Jordan Love wants to get paid top of the market's
coming off.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
That even the way that he plays like, that's the
one of your his agent. That's Jordan Love right there.
To see what he did in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And well, wait, we didn't. We didn't see that all year.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Let's keep it real and Green Bay obviously it was
a little hesitant. So that's number one on the flip side.
Down south in Florida in Miami, Tua Tongue of Iloa
has played very well actually the last two seasons. Unfortunately,
last year he almost had to retire due to concussion issues.
This season he played the entire year, which is a
big step for him. But as we've well documented, struggled
(03:30):
against the good teams and struggled in cold weather. So
according to CBS Sports. Tua, who has been one of
the forefront guys in the offseason as the quarterback, is
a very strong leader, has usually always led a lot
of OTAs and player workouts things of that nature a
corner to CBS, though he's missed most of the voluntary
OTAs this offseason. As the two sides are trying to
(03:53):
negotiate a new contract again, he would like to be
paid near the top of the market. The Dolphins, given
his injury history, given his you know, struggles against some
of the better competition, are has to do that. So
both sides are kind of at a staleman right now
with you got me, Kinikan. Here's the questions are, were you, Chris,
of the two Jordan Love and Tua tungu abay Loa,
(04:14):
which one would you feel more comfortable extending right now?
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Well, honestly, I wouldn't want to extend either right now,
just keeping it real. Like you said, Jordan Love is
only he was phenomenal and that's not an overstatement over
the second half of the season, all right, he just was.
He was great and obviously in that playoff game against Dallas,
you couldn't ask for more. Right you go into Dallas
(04:41):
where they were sixteen and one over the last you know,
two years at home, and obviously they're the heavy favorite.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
You're leading the youngest team in.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
To make the playoffs in like fifty some odd years,
and you go in there and you get that wo
He was great over the second half of the season.
As I said, right his last what is it? Let's
see his last like nine games or something like that.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
What is it? Roger?
Speaker 4 (05:13):
He was like, here's the stat that his agent is
pimping out to anyone who would listen, including ESPN dot com. Accordingly,
over the final eight regular season games, eighteen touchdowns, one interception,
the team was six and two.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah, Aaron Rodgers type's numbers. All right.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
That said, it's a half a year, and I would
want to see more Tua. My tune hasn't changed on him.
He's had one fully healthy season. Now he has one
when he's played. I will give him that credit in
that respect. But he's had one fully healthy season and
(05:53):
that was last year. And even in last year, they
beat up on a bunch of tomato cans. They were
one in six against playoff teams. He's never won a game,
and forget cold weather, a tad brisky all right, forty
five degrees in under. He ain't winning, or at least
(06:16):
he hasn't yet ever in his career, and in most seasons,
you're gonna have to win in some cold, frigid weather
to reach a super Bowl. And so again because of
the health concerns, because I still, you know, I want
to see how we do against some of the better things.
I'm not putting it all on him, but he's a
(06:38):
part of it, a good part of it.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I want to see another year.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
And I'm not mad at too it for kind of okay,
you know, I'm gonna do with things a little differently now.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Put a little heat on y'all.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I'm not mad at him for that because he should
try to get the contract. I'm just saying, if I'm
the Dolphins, I am not completely completely sold on yet
and so I wouldn't pay either. But if I gotta
pick one, I would pick This is gonna probably surprise
you rot because he does have the lesser track record
(07:10):
as far as time. I would pick Jordan Love. My
eye test likes love better.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
That's me.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
My eye test likes love better. I think two of
armstrength is a little in question. And then of course
there's the health issues durability. So yeah, if I have
to pay one, it would be Jordan Love.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Yeah, I disagree, and I think two of last year
that was the big year for me staying healthy all
year or some of the other stuff. I mean, we
could take a look talk about the cold weather and
what the what the record is.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
He's not the only one plan.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
I don't know in those games, Chris did the defense
give up forty points?
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Do we know what the scores one of those games?
Speaker 5 (07:55):
I mean, so I can't really look at that and
just say it's only on him. There's a twenty two
guys playing. So the Jordan loved, it's just a small
sample size. At the beginning of the Seeds in the
first half of the season, there were people saying, we
don't know what we got here. Maybe that's why the
people were saying, no wonder the Packers didn't want to
(08:16):
extend him because they didn't know what they had, and
early on they were those bad games, and he did
catch fire at the end, but you never know. I'd
have to take a look at some of the competition
in some of those games where they beating the bed Bears,
beating some other teams. I don't know what the schedule
was Chris at that point, but I do think that
(08:39):
last year for me, it was tour durable. Can he
stay healthy when they winning games? And we know the
seventy point fluke, whatever you want to call it, it
was just one of those eye opening moments where you saw,
we've seen him have the comeback ability two years ago
when they came back against Baltimore on the road and
what was the other game? That one other game and
(09:00):
with a furious comeback as well. So there's some things
that I really like. And once you gave him some
big receivers and stuff, he was able to make make
things happen. So, you know, could he get hurt, Sure,
he could. You know that that's just something that you're
gonna have to roll the dice with. But it had
he been hurt at all last year, Chris, or he
(09:21):
didn't have the whole season, you know what I mean,
then then I would really pause.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
I would I would be more.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Uh, I would be more frightened to sign him to
a longer turn.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
One One healthy season out of four is good enough
for there coming.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
That is the most recent one, not that it was
the first one.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
I mean, if you're telling me, out of the two,
who would I pick, I'm just saying I would. I
would pick Tua because Jordan love just his body of
work isn't long enough for me.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
But you're ready, like so are you and me?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
And that you would rather not like idea, you're not
re signing either.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
No, no, no, you're ready to sign to Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
And here's the other thing with the Jordan, which to
me speaks volumes. It really does, because we talk about
this all the time. The price only goes up, right,
it only goes up. So if they really after watching
him for four years as a backup and in practice,
and it's different from a game, Chris, I'm not, but
(10:25):
you get to see more of him, you know what
I mean. You've watched him, and you watched him and
at that point they could have come up with a
deal that he would have gladly signed, you know, without
big money, because you're giving it to him before he
even plays that first full season, you know what I mean, Like,
if you really were like, this guy is good, we
(10:47):
know he is, and if he stays healthy, we know
what we got. Something you pay him because he'll take
less money on an unproven year, you know, on no
before the season, like they had a chance. I don't
think they should have paid him before the season. No,
I'm just saying it didn't know if they didn't know,
and that's what I mean, they didn't know.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, but I hear you.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
I Look, Jordan Love's not in a really bad situation.
Neither of them is, because I get it. They want security, right,
and they should. It's football.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I mean, you could get injured any point.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
And that's why I'm not mad at toa either with
the stuff, because you go there and get.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Hurt, now what you know what I mean, right.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
But that's why if I'm the Dolphins, I wouldn't give
it to him.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
But I hear you. I mean I think he's doing
you know, I'm not mad at his strategy, but yeah, Rob,
I don't.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Look, if they don't sign Jordan Loves this year and
he plays ninety percent of the way he did in
the second half of that last season, and he look,
people are expecting big things from Green Bay, as they should.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
They're gonna he's going to benefit.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
I mean, Green Bay's gonna have to andy up and
give the dude big money. So you know he's got
to go out there and he's not in a terrible
situation as long as he stays healthy. But to a
Robs see to me the thing, and again it's partly
the health, but not just like I need.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
To see him. And we talked.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
We used to talk about this with Dak, rob what
he do against the good teams? And two and last
season roped ten and one against losing teams.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
They averaged thirty five points a game, and.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
His numbers, that's a lot of games against losing teams.
I mean, right as eleven of their games. But if
he had a bad record against them, that's what I want.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
But I like a few wins against some good teams.
He's won.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
He was one in six against teams with a winning record,
and he scored just sixteen points a game, and his
numbers went way down. Touchdown interception ratio, plummeted yards per game,
passer rating, they all plummeted against the top competition.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
And that was our concern with Dak for a lot
of years, like.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Well, he's beating up on these bad teams, but how
is he looking against the really good teams. I got
the same questions about Tua and I would not be
in a rush to lock him up because look, team,
and they signed these guys well before the stage we're
at now with Tua. But Carson Wentz Jared Goff, which
(13:23):
the Rams ended up, you know, at least in their
minds regretting obviously they traded him contract. No, No, I
don't you and I think golf is better than the Rams,
do you know?
Speaker 5 (13:35):
But I'm just saying I thought that wasn't right.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Yeah, they felt like it. Look they it worked out
for him. They got a Super Bowl out of staff.
But we've seen guys get the contract Kyler Murray Row.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
You and I both were like, ain't no way. I
thought that was premature, especially Chris. Remember that playoff game
he came off of. I was just like wow. And
then the stuff is.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Part right to get him the he powered him in
the sign, he pound him like crazy.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
The only thing here was Ta last year led the
league in pass in four thousand, six hundred and twenty
four yards, ranked top five Chris and completions, touchdowns and
first down So he has some numbers that can put out.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
The terrific weapons and a really good play caller. A
head coaching Mike McDaniel. I'm not saying this, it's saying
I never pay him, but I just want to see more.
I haven't seen enough, and you know, we'll see what
each of them does this season. But I would take Love.
You would take to eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
(14:39):
If you have to pay one of these guys, Jordan
Love or Tua, which one are you paying? You're turned

Speaker 5 (15:49):
And one of the things I feel lucky as I
did get to see James Brown perform live in Las
Vegas before he died.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Really, yes, I did. When was that was.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Roughly in the early twenties, you know, mid twenties, twenty eight,
twenty oh eight or something like that. Oh twenty okay, yeah,
well I don't remember when he died, but it was
like a year or two before he died.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Wow, yeah, how was it? And it was at that
stage of his career he still did.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
A three hour show. He changed clothes, you know, with
the cave. Oh yes, it was. It was outstanding.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
I got a funny story my dad.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
My dad was a good dancer, all right, and so
he I don't know how, he was probably in his
sixties and they ran apart.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
You know, he's the Kappas. There was at this big Kappa.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Party and he's dancing and he was looking like he
wanted to do the splits, and my mom was like,
don't do it.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
We're gonna throw your back out. Don't do it.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
But he did the splits and couldn't get He like
pulled a hamstring.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I mean they had to call an ambulance. Oh that's
so bad, Chris oh Man at a party. Yes, yes, yes, yes,
yes so so.

On Fox, Jordan Love or two If you have to
sign one to a big lucrative, long term contract, which
one are you picking?
Speaker 3 (17:41):
I got Love? Rob has Tua. Who do you have?
Speaker 5 (17:45):
All Right, mag and Montana, you're on the odd couple
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
How you doing, Maggie?
Speaker 7 (17:50):
I'm great, Rob?
Speaker 3 (17:51):
How are you wonderful? Hi Man?
Speaker 8 (17:55):
Well as usual? Rob? You got my doc you got
my boy two. The Dolphins have suffered long and hard
for twenty plus years since Damn marinosly retired, and it's
about time we got a franchise quarterback and the man
the service get paid.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
I'm with you, just you gotta pay him. You gotta
put your toe in the water there. It's so hard
to get a quarterback. And really, and I said this
to Chris, last year was for me. I needed to
see that. I needed to see a full season and
I saw that here. Yeah, I saw it.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Look I hear you meg in that you haven't had
a He's the best quarterback you've had.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Since and they've had a ton of quarterbacks down there.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
They give you that, so I get the why you
want to get him, But look, you can still franchise dude,
like you don't have to rush. So I just want
to be sure before I dole out that type of
money because, as we know, once that quarterback gets the
huge money, it is harder to win and keep guys
around him.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
Unless you're Patrick Mahomes. So it's gonna be tough what
you paying. Let's go to dre in Michigan. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports radio.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
What's up, dray dudes, who's going on?
Speaker 9 (19:07):
Fellas?
Speaker 3 (19:08):
What's happening? Buddy Man?
Speaker 10 (19:10):
You got it?
Speaker 11 (19:10):
Ay, Rob, I know you said it got postpone, but
when is the radio.
Speaker 7 (19:13):
Station post day?
Speaker 5 (19:14):
Monday, June third. We're on schedule for everything, thanks for asking.
Monday June third, Detroit Sports Rap Radio AM twelve seventy,
which is an affiliate of Fox Sports Radio, and the
Odd Couple will be on, as Chris knows, Monday through
Friday on on the Sports Rap Radio.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
So we're happy about that.
Speaker 11 (19:32):
Okay, okay, Hey Chris Man, Now I'm starting to think
over the college is underrated. Brothers would be using some words. Now,
you got to be discrabble champion of the world.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Man, oh really, college is a top news day egalitarian.
Speaker 7 (19:46):
No, I never heard it.
Speaker 11 (19:46):
I thought that was a religion egalitarian other day.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Man, that's only the beginning.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I thought that Rob has no idea what I'm dropping
knowledge half.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
I thought that was an egg salad sandwich. You know,
I don't know what.
Speaker 11 (20:01):
He said, long bastard or something. I said. Man, I
needed the floorst when I'm listening to Chris.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
You know what that is, Dre.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
That's just because he sleeps next to a doctor every
night and she talks to her sleep.
Speaker 11 (20:13):
So Chris, Hey, he's smart enough to mayor doctor.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
So he yeah, right, that's the smart thing I did.
Speaker 11 (20:23):
Hey, I'm like, I'm like Chris, though I prefer not
to pay neither one. But if I had to, I'm
gonna go with Love only because with tour of that
concussion thing, he's one hit away from retirement. I mean,
I know they all are, but he's just like a
lot closer than everybody else. And at least Jordan Love
looked like he's about to turn that corner to become
one of the better quarterbacks in the league. So I
would have to go with Love.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
All right, Dre, I agree with you, Dre. Appreciate it.
Thank you?
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Uh Dre in Massachusetts, You're on the odd couple.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Drake? I mean, what's up Andre?
Speaker 10 (20:56):
How you doing? Thanks for taking the call. I'm gonna
have to also go toa tugovloa based off the experience factor.
You know, Jordan Love, as was noted, he broke through
specifically in how he essentially man handled the Cowboys in
that playoff game, but prior to that, Prior to that,
all bets were off and he's only got thirty five
touchdowns and fourteen interceptions for his career, Tua having played
(21:18):
eighty one touchdowns thirty one interception to the point that
was established, given that you want to take advantage of
that quarterback on his rookie deal and because that's your
window to win, I think Tua has a mindset to
learn from a Patrick Mahome and sign that long term
deal that gives you a lot of optionality. Right people
(21:39):
were killing kat Patrick Mahomes saying that you know, he
took less money and it's his responsibility to reset the
market because he took fifty million dollars over a ten
year spin. But that contract allowed him to go back
and renegotiate, giving them the ability to keep players. So
for Tua, I think he has the self confidence and
self assurance frankly to give Miami those same assets still
(22:00):
getting a contract. I mean he's not he's not the
best quarterback in football, but he deserves, you know, to
be there.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
What makes you think he'll do that because he ain't
Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
You, no matter how much you like him, he's not
Patrick Mahons.
Speaker 10 (22:12):
But Chris. I do think he is. He is like
Patrick Mahomes in terms of his intangibles. Who is a
team first guy. He's not a me guy. He's a
wee guy. So I think that you know his and
that's what you saw at Alabama. That's what you saw
him coming off the bench to help him in the
National Championship, all the injuries that he suffered while being
in the NFL, coming all the way from Hawaii, you know,
kind of.
Speaker 7 (22:31):
So I just think two is a.
Speaker 10 (22:33):
Team player and he will have the mindset to give
give me my money, but it's not going to be
in conclusion this Deshaun Watson or even Lamar Jackson stand
off where he's gonna hold them hostage and.
Speaker 9 (22:45):
He's not going.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Right now. So no, and he shouldn't.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
And he shouldn't because if he gets hurt and uh,
then Chris, you're you're you're in trouble.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Like you just you've got to be carefu. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (22:58):
Remember we thought that that was crazy. Remember that then
we think the year he got hurt, Chris, that he
was crazy to go back out there without a contract
with did out all right?
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Jim Peterson, former NBA player, now the Timberwolves TV analysts
will join us in the moment.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
All right, it's the Odd Couple live from the tirereg
dot com studios. Our next guest played in the NBA
eight seasons to be exact, with the Rockets, the Warriors,
the Kings. Now he is the Timberwolves TV analyst from
the Bally Sports North.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
I think he's ready. Jim Peterson is Jim.
Speaker 7 (23:47):
I'm here, Chris.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
What's happening?
Speaker 8 (23:49):
Jim?
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Great?
Speaker 7 (23:50):
Hey Robins?
Speaker 9 (23:52):
Yeah, Hey, hey, hey, hey hey Chris. I just I
literally just got into my room in Denver, and I
don't know if you guys have been to Denver, and
you know how far away the airport is from.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Yes, yes, yes, I appreciate.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
We appreciate your time because we know the players aren't
the only ones traveling during this time.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
So we get it, man, we get it.
Speaker 9 (24:14):
I got take you right quick to Chris. This was
righting up the elevator with Michael Grady and said I'm
getting ready, ready to be on with Robert Chris Psary.
He's like, He's like, tell Chris, I say, hello, you
should be on my radio show all the time, and so.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Yes, tell him. I guy, he's a great guy. Great guy.
I got a lot to ask you, but let's start here.
I mean, you, like I said, played eight years in
the league. You've been a broadcaster, You've seen it all.
How did you explain what happened last night?
Speaker 7 (24:47):
If you came whole series?
Speaker 9 (24:49):
This whole series has been bizarre. I mean games won
in two, you know, the first four games, every team
winning on on you know, the road court, and what
we did in game two was inexplicable. No Ready, Gobert
and the way that we shut them down. And you
know we've seen it before. You know, obviously Jade McDaniels
(25:10):
and Nikhil Alexander Walker and Anthony Edwards and Mike Conley
along with Gobert, we have a you know, we're number
one in the in the NBA and defense all season long,
and so we've locked people down. And even going back
to last year, we've had some some games. I can
show you clips from when we played the Dallas Mavericks
when Jade McDaniels and Anthony Edwards locked up Luca and
(25:34):
Kyrie in the game situation. It was one of the
greatest defensive possessions I've ever seen. They talk about the
one where they.
Speaker 7 (25:42):
Samaul Murray in the quarter in the half court, but one,
the one that did against Kyrie and Luca was even
more dynamic. And so it's kind of our calling card.
But what happened last night was, you know, energy from
the crowd. We've got a good basketball team. This is
probably our biggest rival. You know, there's not a lot
(26:05):
of natural rivalries anymore in the NBA, but for us,
I mean, Denver is a division rival. You know, a
fewars back when Kims of our coach, we beat Denver
in d eighty two.
Speaker 9 (26:15):
The winner of that game was going to make the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (26:18):
And so kind of going back even nine years ago
when Nicolejokis and Karl Anthony Towns came in the league together,
that matchup has been a rivalry too. So it's a
pimplentt of thing. But all you gotta say, though, Chris
is Anthony.
Speaker 12 (26:34):
Edwards, Well, look, you you played against Michael Jordan, and
obviously we've heard the comparisons between Jordan and Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
What do you think of those.
Speaker 9 (26:50):
You can't say that one more time.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
You played against Michael Jordan, and obviously we've heard the comparisons,
you know, between him and Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
What do you think of those comparisons.
Speaker 9 (27:01):
Well, I think as a broadcaster, as a guy that's
you know, looking for storylines. You know, we're all always
looking for stuff to talk about. With Anthony Edwards, there's
been a lot of a lot of people that have
been compared to Jordan over the years. I think that
ant kind of kind of looks like him and Aunt
at twenty two.
Speaker 7 (27:21):
Years of age.
Speaker 9 (27:22):
I think if you were to put Jordan and Anthony
Edwards side by side, I think they're pretty comparable. You know,
I was in the Jordan draft, so I came in
the league with Michael Jordan. So when I see Anthony
Edwards play, I see a really pretty fin not finished product.
But I mean, Chris, if you guys saw how hard
(27:43):
this dude works, like his player development coach, Chris Hines,
the amount of work that these guys put in together
and the way that he's kind of like a supercomputer,
like he's got holes in his game, but he's looking
to like get rid of all of his weaknesses and
now what you're seeing from him too is an emotional
IQ that makes him an incredible leader. On top of
(28:03):
it all, he's twenty two years of age and I
don't know if you saw the SoundBite of him in
the locker room after the game giving credit to Karl
Anthony Towns. Yeah, the way that Towns played. He does
that every day all over the place. He gives all
of his teammates confidence. What happened to Carl when he
played with Jimmy Butler. Jimmy kind of didn't understand Carl
(28:26):
and didn't really want to deal with him at all.
And I think that that time it was just not
a great time for Karl Anthony Towns. But this pairing
with Anthony edwards has been really great for Karl Anthony
Towns's confidence and it really shows. Kat played one of
the great Cat games of the season last night against Denver.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Let's go here. Game seven is in Denver.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Obviously, if you're in Minnesota, I mean, how do you
look like? And you lose this, you think to yourself.
We were up to all when two in their building
and then lost three in a row, including a couple
at home. Did they Did they pass on a big
opportunity there?
Speaker 9 (29:09):
Well, I got to tell you, I think that when
you're playing against the best player in the world. I mean,
nikolic is is is one of the most unique players
I've ever seen play. I mean, I played with the
kim Elaijuan for four years, and I played in kind
of the golden era of post players.
Speaker 7 (29:28):
Right in the NBA.
Speaker 9 (29:30):
And I look at Nikola Jokic and his skill set,
and I think you're never going to be able to
convince me that he couldn't play in any era. I mean,
he's got post up game, he's got pinch post game,
he's got top of the floor, triple hand up, pick
and roll game. He can shoot the three. There's not
a skill set that he doesn't have. And I think
he would have given those centers back in the eighties
(29:52):
and ninety six. You know, he's he's kind of a
young Arvitas Sabonis, you know, our Sabonis when he as
a younger player. He would have completely dominated the NBA
two had he been able to come back at eighty six.
But I don't know Sibonis. I mean, excuse me, Nicole
Jokicic what he did in games three, four, and five,
(30:13):
it was it's unbelievable, right, literally literally destroying us and
there's nothing we could do about it. But you know,
throwing double teams at him, throwing throwing go buryed him,
throwing big double teams at him. He was unstoppable. So no,
I'm not gonna look at it, look.
Speaker 7 (30:29):
At the disappointment.
Speaker 9 (30:29):
Obviously, if he take the Denver Nugget, two of the
world champions to seven games, I think you're feeling pretty
good about yourself and I think we have a good
chance to win the game. Tol.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Yeah, I'm glad you brought up your era of big men, Jim,
because I wanted to ask you about that, you know,
kind of yokish compared to those guys, because it was
the greatest era of big men ever.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Let me ask you this before you go Game two.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
As you said, you guys blew them out without Rudy Gobert,
and of course lose three straight. And part of me,
I gotta be honest, because I thought I liked your size,
you know, and I picked the Timberwls to win it
in seven and I liked your size. That was one
reason I picked you guys, but I did start wondering, man,
(31:13):
do they need to kind of play some more minutes
without go bear and see what that looks like?
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Because the defense obviously in game two was just phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Did you ever you know, do you ever think they
got close to doing that? Were people in Minnesota ever wondering?
You know what, let's try to go small a little
more because we really have some success against them without Gobert.
Speaker 9 (31:38):
Well, you know, I think that you know, one of
the things about Rudy's game is that, you know, we
play Rudy in the spy against against this Denver team,
and you know, Utah used him a lot the same
way to like, they wouldn't always put Rudy on the
best big they would put him in a situation they
put him on the worst shooter on their team, and
(32:00):
he would play in a spy role. And that's what
we do against Denver, and we've had a.
Speaker 7 (32:04):
Lot of success.
Speaker 9 (32:05):
I mean, our teams. If you look at our matchups
over the past couple two three years with Denver, we
basically split games. So we've given Denver a big problem.
And Bilberre's not just on the floor to play defense.
He's a really important part of our offensive ecosystem because
Anthony Edwards is one part of what our offense is about.
(32:27):
Karl Anthony Towns is another part. But the pick and
roll game that Rudy creates with Mike Conley is a
really important piece of the puzzle for us to have
offensive continuity. And so not only is it's just not
defense with Rudy, he's a really important part of the
rolling gravity that he brings when he plays pick and
roll with either Anthony Edwards or Mike Connolly. So you've
(32:49):
got to look at the totality of what Rudy does.
He's not just a defensive stalwart. He's an offensive part
of your a really important part of your pick and
roll game and offensive philosophy. So that's the way you
got to look at Rudy Gobert.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
All right, Jim Peterson, Valley Sports North, Timberwolves TV analysts, Jim,
great stuff just on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Okay, guys, thank you, I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (33:13):

right sixty one fifty one over the Knicks at halftime.
What was your pick in this game? Indiana?
Speaker 8 (34:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I got Indiana seven. We both picking you got him
winning the series in seven?
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Okay, I originally had Nickson six, but before the game
I said, you know, I think Indiana Wednesday Night, Nickson seven.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Rob Jalen Brunson, who you know, we love.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
But we're not saying there's a superstar first half five
points to assist two or thirteen shooting in nineteen minutes.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
I guess Rob.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
If you're a Knicks fan, you're like, hey, our guy
is having a horrible first half and we're only down ten,
maybe I think rob they should make a push and
if like if at the end of three they're not,
you know, it's pretty much double figure definit Yeah, take.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Him out and let him rest up for Game seven
at home.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
Well that might be the strategy, c But I do
have a message for all Nick fans. After watching the
first half from Jalen Brunton.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Where's your Massa?
Speaker 5 (35:08):
No, hey, where's your Marsire?
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Now?
Speaker 5 (35:18):
You know what I'm gonna tell you this, Chris, I
always thought that was in the Ten Commandments, and I
went to the movie. You know, yes, that's you mean,
not that cud not noxerpt no, no, no, but I
mean that he said it, right, okay, right, because Edward G. Robinson, right,
is in the Ten Commandments and he's the he's the
(35:41):
one to delivering talking to the uh you know, telling
the people where where's your Messiah? And he never said it,
but Billy Crystal said that, And for a long time
I really thought that was in the movie Where's Your Messiah? Now? Yeah, no, no,
I don't think Sorry, but that was not bad. It
(36:01):
was apropos for the Knicks for.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Now, rob G.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
We had a whole nother segment topic, you know, for
this segment. And Rob g hit me before that, right
before this segment, say hey, let's do Jyalen Breston in
the first half.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
Was it so you could do that little bit?
Speaker 2 (36:18):
No?
Speaker 3 (36:18):
No, no, no, no. Once he said that.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Once he said that, then I remembered the Billy Chris okay,
because I was.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Like Rob probably put it and changed the whole.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
Show bit okay, okay, no, no, no, once he said he
wanted to do it, and it made sense. Obviously, people
they're down ten Chris, and uh, you know he's off.
I mean even in some of the shots I'm watching,
I know you're watching a little bit, right, Yes, they're
all short. There's something you know, like they seem like
a shot is short. So I don't know if he's
(36:48):
comfortable or uncomfortable what's the right term.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
But the concern for me about the Knicks, and if
you're a Knicks fans, I think the concern Rob has
to be going into a Game seven that you're that's
gonna be Sunday, and it Rob is probably gonna be
Sunday afternoon, right, They're probably gonna have the Nuggets on
at night. Nuggets to do this would be Sunday, right,
So you're putting a defending champion game, right, you need
(37:13):
not even gonna have two full days to you know,
between games and the Knicks. You know game four where
it was short rest didn't look good, and then in
game five they got a little more of a break,
looked great, and Rob that I would be concerned a bit.
I still think with the energy of the Garden and
(37:34):
the Knicks fortitude and fight that they'll pull it out.
But that's something to be concerned about. And that's why
I think you need to give your guys rest.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
If they don't make a one in the third. Well,
here's another one too. It's Josh Hard.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
Chris strained abdomen in the first half and it's been wincing.
So if he's if he's not right, they better get
him out of there too. If they fall behind by
happened eighteen or something, you know, if you call on
you got to get those guys ready because losing here
and not having them ready for game seven at the
Gardener is a mistake.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Yep, absolutely absolutely all right, Rob, What you doing this weekend?
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Just relaxing, all relaxing this weekend.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Nothing going on us, both of us, all right, have
a great one too, all right, keep in locked.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon. Next a couple we out
