Speaker 3 (01:20):
We got last call as well, chance to get in
if you miss any of today's show, you can hop
in there as well.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
All right, Rob G.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Lamar Jackson obviously one of the best players in the NFL,
having a really good season, even though the team isn't
and he's missed a few plays. He had a bad
game against the Chiefs before we ultimately pulled out. Right now,
that hamstring has him down, still questionable if he is
going to play, And therein lies the conversation of but

(01:50):
what do you do with Lamar Jackson? Coming up into
this next week as they get ready to face the.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Texans.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
So it'll be hosting the Texans, Texans coming off a
win finally, Texans been struggling throughout the season, and a
lot of people are saying, you know, and I'll start
with me, Rob G. One thing we learn in sports,
things aren't a guarantee, right things all will have this
next year will be good next year, the schedule will

(02:20):
be easy next year, will have our health next year
you never really know, and so to me, I look
at the game like this for the Ravens, the team
that sitting at one and three, as are the Texans,
a team that ultimately I believe are the team that's
kind of usually built to come back. Rob and I
both believe last year they were zeroing to they'll be fine,
and they were getting and got to the postseason. But
this season feels different. The defense has been giving up

(02:43):
way too many points. You can score thirty on them easily,
no matter who you are. You got injuries all up
and down the defensive side of the ball. You got
obviously a nicked up Lamar Jackson. So what I'm gonna say,
I am gonna preface with a little bit of great
assault of the only person who knows how INJUREDY is

(03:04):
is Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
You get what I mean?

Speaker 3 (03:06):
And if Lamar Jackson is looking at John Harbudy he's like, Yo,
I'm really hurt right now, then this changes the conversation.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
But if it's a hamstring that he can play through,
that he can push.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Through, to me, rob Gie, I'm gonna make that effort
if I'm Lamar Jackson, because you're sitting at one in three.
They're not built with Huntley as their backup, with any
other backup coming in, They're not built to win without him.
This team, this system, this offense is run through him.
Simply put, it's how dynamic he is that makes this
team go. It's the ability to run, it's the ability

(03:40):
to pass, it's the ability to even the thought that
gives the defense to hesitate one to one millisecond. That
then makes them great because guys get open, Zayflowers open,
Andrews is open, then you can hand them off to
Derrick Henry.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
I can't do that without him, and I can't lose.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
This game to the Texans, who may be feeling themselves
feeling like they can write the ship a little bit.
And we know what else if the Texans haven't been
anything else, rob g one thing they've been over the
last couple of years, two three years is good Defensively.
You look at the season so far, the Rams barely
beat them, the Rams, who some field could be the
best team in the NFC, they barely beat them fourteen

(04:15):
to nine. The Bucks beat them by one and held
them to twenty. The Jags only had seventeen last week.
There are two weeks ago, and then the Titans don't
score at all.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
So my point is, without Lamar is a very winnable.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Game for the Texans, specifically how well their defense is
and also for them feeling like maybe they can find
they found a little thing or two offensively, So I.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Don't want to go down one to four.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
And then all of a sudden from the Ravens, you
start to look at the rest of your schedule right
where you're like, oh, shoot, this gets a little tough
for us. The Ravens have aspirations for Super Bowls, for postseasons,
and then you don't want to go up against Then
you got the Rams, the Bears seemed like, you know,
a tougher team.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Dolphins could be easy. But then you got the Vikings,
a tougher team.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Then you got a Division of one with the good
defensive team, the Browns who held you up earlier. You
beat him earlier, but you never know defensively. And then
you've got some other teams. The Steelers look like you
know their quality. You got the Packers as well, so
you don't want to get too far behind to me.
So if he looks at me and he feeling seventy
percent is I want to go for this because I
want to go two and three and start to turn

(05:17):
this thing around. Because to me, with Lamar Jackson, every
season as a potential super Bowl season and I don't
want to waste it and waste an opportunity.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
That's me.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
You could not be more wrong, k Devi because to
your point, if Lamar Jackson is only seventy percent, and
that'd be generous, right because they've said as soon as
he injured his haftering the ports for multiple weeks, you know,
two to three weeks he could miss. It wasn't until
Wednesday morning that Tom Pelaso float out the idea that
he could try to play, because, as you mentioned, they're

(05:49):
so far behind the eight ball and they got to
get some wins as much as they can. But if
he's only seventy percent, and let's say he plays theinst Houston,
he gets out unscathed, not further injury. He gets to
the game and he again avoids further injury, he just
kind of hangs on.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
The chance.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
The thing about hamstrings is they don't get better, right Like,
you know, the only way those kind of soft tinged
tissue injuries ever heal is with rest. You cannot heal
a hamstring by playing on it and throttling down to
fifty sixty percent, because number one, you're more likely to
get hurt playing that way by not playing full speed.

(06:26):
And number two, when you do try to push it,
you just physically can't because your hamster's gonna tug at
you and pull at you. And especially if you're a
running quarterback or a mobile quarterback like Lamar Jackson is
the greatest in NFL history, you run the risk of
re injuring yourself again. So even if he hypothetically is
able to avoid injuring himself further by playing on it,

(06:47):
the fact remains is the Baltimore Ravens, to your point,
are not good enough around Lamar Jackson where they can
make any noise with him at seventy percent point playing period.
They cannot compete in the AFC with Buffalo and Kansas
City and the Chargers, or how maybe even Aaron Rodgers
is dude, I don't think that's gonna happen, But you
cannot compete in the AFC with Lamar Jackson's not healthy,

(07:10):
which is why I believe you sit him this Sunday.
No matter what he tells you if he says, coach,
I'm ready to go. I know I can't really run
that much, but I'm ready to give you all I can.
I'm gonna win here against Houston. I believe from what
we've seen with Houston the last year or so that
as bad as that Baltimore defense is, they can do

(07:31):
enough to shut down CJ. Stroud and company. We've talked
about it up until last week when they will only
have six nothing a half doen This offensive explosion there
in the second half, aided by a lot of really
poor play by Tennessee. They hadn't crossed the twenty point
threshold in seven of their previous nine games. So I
believe with Cooper Rush under center and his career two

(07:52):
to one interception to touchdown Hio or touchdown interception you
have that backwards, they can win that game. They can
get to two and three. Now, obviously, playing the Rams
is a whole different monster. Not only would they be
a problem with with Lamar Jackson, they obviously be a
problem without Lamar Jackson because that front four is nasty.
Jared Versus on the edge and those guys like they
can really bring the pass rushing away not a lot

(08:14):
of teams can across the NFL. But if you can
sit Lamar through those two games, and let's say you split,
you head into your bye week at two and four,
you come out of it ideally with the healthy Lamar
Jackson three weeks rested. You got the Bears at home,
the Dolphins on the road, which you're not scared of
them at all. You got the Vikings, which could be

(08:36):
plucky obviously, that could be a tough team. Then you
got the Browns, the Jets, the Bengals, the Steelers, the Bengals,
the Patriots. None of those teams make me nervous if
I'm a Baltimore Ravens fan, because coming into this season,
they were the popular pick for popular people to win
the Super Bowl ant. So even if they don't have
all their horses defensively, or even if they don't have

(08:59):
the peak Baltimore more Rayings we thought they're getting, even
eighty percent of them is good enough to run the
table pretty well down the second half of the season.
So if you wrest Lamar, get him to one hundred
percent and let him carry you the rest of the way,
the same way Joe Burrow did last season. I know
it didn't really work out then to get to the
playoffs caause of what happened all the tiebreakers. But if

(09:20):
you get to two and four into the bye week,
Lamar Jackson, get you to ten wins, and ten wins
will be enough to get in the posty in the AFC.
And then and then you hope that you have enough
there where he's good enough on any given Sunday to
be the difference between you winning and losing.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
So that was cute.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Here's the thing, all right, I'm looking at a team
where defensively, if I'm Lamar Jackson, right, you put up
the forty Bill said, that's cute. We put up forty
one the Browns. Obviously you beat them Browns of the Browns.
Obviously that Rounds have a good defense. But they're struggling
right now, Dyalen Gabriel, we don't know what that experiment's
going to be.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
You put up thirty you still, lion, say that's cute.
We got thirty eight. The Chiefs put up thirty seven.
On your head.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
The reason I say this is because you talk about
the Texans, but the Texans are licking their chop at
the Ravens defense. The Texans said, let me tell you
who I'm looking forward to playing this week. If I
could pick a team you would think historically surely wouldn't
be the Ravens. They're like, let us pick the Ravens
because even with Lamar, okay, he's gonna score, but we

(10:22):
got a chance to score because they're giving up big points.
In fact, again the last couple of games, thirty seven points,
thirty eight points, and even a forty one piece two
weeks before that. So the Texans feel like, if there's
anyone that we can put up some points against rob g,
it would be the Ravens.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
Now.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Also, you talk about soft tissue hamstrings on it, well,
guess what he's gonna be dealing with the remainder of
the year a hamstring issue, because there's no such thing
as well, I gave it.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Two to three weeks ahead and by the weekn but
a hamstringt print.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
No hamstrings are gonna bother you are gonna bother you
are gonna bother you. Now, Yes, that's why I said.
There's degrees, right, there's I don't there's four really really pulled,
and Doctor's like, yo, you're absolutely gonna shred this thing.
Then there's all right. It's gonna hurt, and to be
honest with you, is probably gonna hurt for a very
long time.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
But we can manage it. You can.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
We can put some tape on it, give you some payments.
It's gonna be a bothersome thing throughout the season. I
have a feeling that's what this is gonna be. So
the idea that I rest them a week or so
isn't really gonna do much because what you said, anybody
who's had a bad back, anybody who's had a hamstring,
anybody who's had these certain types of issues. I'm about
to deal with this until I can sit my butt

(11:31):
down for six eight weeks and really rest it.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
And again, I hear what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I really do, like, why wouldn't I want to rest
my best player, the guy, the franchise player. My concern
is you lose to the Texans. Now you're one and four.
You surely like now to your point, oh well, then
maybe we wrest them with the Rams. I can't wrestle
with the Ram because Rams doesn't for sure loss. If
Lamar ain't playing, now you're one in five season is done.

(11:57):
So to me, these next two weeks are critical, and
the only chance I have a winning is with Lamar Jackson,
even if I hand it off the ball God forbid.
By the way, John Harmon right to hand the ball
off twenty five thirty times. You have the most built
forward guy in the NFL, and Derrick Henry if I
just showed you him, if you fell from Mars, I said,
look at this specimen, and you say, yeah, let's give

(12:19):
him five carries.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Look, that's crazy.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
So point being Lamar Jackson being out there wink wink,
kind of sort of being a decoy and we run
the heck out of the ball could change things a
little bit for them where he doesn't have to be
so dynamic as you mentioned.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
But I can't sit him and lose to the Texans,
and I can't lose sen him and lose to the Rams.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Now my season is done, and you just don't want
to wait seasons with a guy like.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
Okay, humor me. Do you believe even after what we
see with their defense do the first month of the season,
do you believe with the healthy Lamar Jackson that the
Ravens you still make a run in the Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (12:54):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Because Lamar literally like him and with Henry. They're that dynamic.
You put up thirty on the lines, you put a
forty on the bills, you know what I mean? You
put yeah, you can win a shoot at the ball? Yes, Okay.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Do you think with a seventy sixty five percent Lamar
Jackson they can win the Super Bowl? Make the Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Likely?

Speaker 6 (13:14):
No?

Speaker 5 (13:14):
So then what are we doing here? Are we going
to race to go eight and eight? No? No, eight
and seven? Seventeen games? Gosh, eight and nine?

Speaker 6 (13:21):
I know right?

Speaker 4 (13:22):
They say?

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Wis like if the goal is to win a Super Bowl,
which is where they are in Baltimore. They're not in
the business of just being solid. They are not my Raiders.
We're like, hey, if we make the playoffs, that's a
good year for us. Like, no, they are in the
business of winning, and they have what I believe in.
You believe a lot of people believe to be the
best player in football, point blank in Lamar Jackson. And

(13:44):
when you have that kind of guy on your team,
the expectation is if we're not gonna win the Super Bowl,
we're at least competing for it year in and year out.
And if Lamar Jackson is not healthy, you are not
competing for a Super Bowl. So what are we doing?
Are we just trying to be relevant? Would we like
to be the Utah Jazz of of football? No, we

(14:05):
want to win the whole damn thing, and we can't
win the thing if he's not he's not healthy.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Here's the thing, though, I hear you and another normal
circumstances under saying what you're getting again. I don't think
you're I don't think you're crazy for this. But my
thought process is, and we're watching this right now with
the Eagles.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Who was the best running back in the NFL last year,
Sae Kwon Barkley, who is the.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Most mid running back right now in the NFL, not
Tiler wise per se. But it just isn't working right
now right Maybe he lost the step, Maybe the offensive
line isn't as great. Maybe it's all the above. Maybe
it's generally hurts and they don't know exactly how they
want to run too. My point is I can't come
into it next year knowing Zay Flowers.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Maybe I have to pick. Maybe he wants more, Maybe.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Andrews is a year he starts to getting his Travis
Kelse bag where he ain't what he used to be right. Also,
maybe Derrick Henry finally has the decline. He will be
what thirty two is or something like that by the
next year. So my point is, I hear what you're saying,
but I can't go, oh, next year will be.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Look, you just never simply know.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
And that's the dangerous thing when you're playing these You know,
in a sport where it's not a baseball season, what
do I do?

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Man?

Speaker 3 (15:12):
You go on an eye up and down on an
ile all the year long, right, because we got a
long season basketball, Man, take a month off.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
We got a long season. Football. You miss four or
five six games, it can change things.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
So I don't think what you're saying is crazy and
I don't think it's asinine, and I think a lot
of people might feel that way. I just feel if
Lamar gives me a look like he's ready to go,
dang it, I can win a couple of games, kind
of get get some things going, because again, I don't
want to waste the season with Lamar Jackson and I
look up and it's another season where he's incredibly talented
and blah blah blah, and we have nothing to show

(15:44):
for it.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
Well, tell you what, speaking of these ravens. There's a
narrative floating around in the sports media space that if
they had somebody else under center this week, we're having
a different conversation. And I could not disagree more. And
I'll tell you what, tell you what that is. I'll
tell you about it.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
It is the odd couple, Rob and for Rob Helvin
Washington on a Worsham Wednesday.

That's why we never heard of.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Him, because hedn't even put you guys up on the
tube today.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
Forgot Yeah, I just completely forgot that. Well shut up.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
He started to mail it in. He was like, nah,
I've done enough work this week.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Hey, I think he had enough. All of disrespect who
who y right?

Speaker 5 (17:44):
Exactly?

Speaker 4 (17:45):
All right?

Speaker 3 (17:46):
On the way, we got Ben Arthur, Fox Sports NFL reporter.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
We'll talk to him. Rob G.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
We're just talking about Jamar Jackson. You and I kind
of differ on on obviously, depending on his health. I
think we both agree, depends on the severity. But now
also there's been some speculation Rie and Rob talked to
about a little bit earlier day about Shador and where
he could have landed, how things may have worked out.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Yeah, there was a report what about a week and
a half ago that and Dion confirmed this, actually that
the Ravens wanted to draft Shadur in the fifth round,
and he told them no because he wanted more of
a direct path to playing time and he wasn't even
get that playing time behind Lamar Jackson, so he ultimately
forced his way, I guess you could say to the
Browns and the rest is history. Now there's been this
sentiment boiling over on social media and on sports media, television,

(18:31):
talk show, podcast, whatever, that Hey, you know, if Shador
hadn't done that, he'd be starting right now, you know,
coming up this Sunday for Lamar Jackson. And I think
that's just flat out wrong. I don't think that's accurate
at all. I do not believe that if Shaduor was
in Baltimore today that he would automatically be filling in
as the number two with the Ravens, because, as we've

(18:54):
seen so far, he hasn't even firmly established himself as
the scout team quarterback in Cleveland. He's still split a
reps with Bailey Zappi over there. He's currently as of today,
even after they bench Joe Flacco, he is still third.
He's his spot on the pecking order has not gone
up at all. So I am not convinced that if

(19:15):
he was in Baltimore today that I could say without
a shadow of a doubt that he would have been
beaten out Cooper Rush for the QB two job and
that he will be starting for the Ramis. I don't
believe it, and I don't think that's fair to say.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
It's not fair at all to say. Here's a couple
of things.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
One thing we left out was Dion Sanders also said
Coach Prime said, basically, I'm paraphrasing you ain't.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
I ain't never learned nothing on the bench, and his
point was you.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
Kind of got to get out there, get the live fire,
get those live action balls to play and get to
get tackled a little bit, get you know, get out there,
get your feet wet in order to grow. Now I do,
but I disagree. I get the sentiment, but I do disagree.
I think you can learn from the bench, and I
think you're wise too. If that's just simply where you are.
I don't think you have the mindset him, man, I
can't learn from here. If you're on the bench, well
you might as well learn. You might as well learn

(19:58):
from the guys in front of you, Lamar Jackson, which
in this hypothetical sense Joe Flacco in the real sense
of where he is.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Right.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Now, here's the thing too, I don't mind a player
wanting to play. I think people being like, oh, man,
you could have been I don't have a problem with
a guy wanted to play, because did we forget Eli
Manning didn't want to go to certain situations, right, we
had John Elway didn't want to go to a certain situations,
didn't want to play for this, didn't want to do that.
And if your fifth round pick, which with the Ravens

(20:25):
would have been, it was differently they said, hey, we're
going to take you second round, right.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
But you got a back.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Okay, Coo, I'm going second, which mean I get a
certain different type of money and obviously they value me,
they have me hire.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Well, it's the fifth round.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
And I got a chance at this point going to
the fifth round probably going to be the team that's bad,
and I can you know, I have a chance to compete.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
I don't have a problem with somebody wanting to go compete,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (20:46):
And say I got a chance to play, because the
other team or two that I'm hearing about, it's not
like they have a lamar A Josh Allen of Patrick
Mahomes that justin Herbert there. I'm gonna have to try
to you know, then I'll never get that spot. So
I don't mind a kid. See, once you're in the
fifth round, one to go play. And to your point,
there is no guarantee. Cooper Rush has been really, really
good at he's solid, He's had a solid career, and in.

Speaker 5 (21:10):
This scenario, the Ravens are one and three, you think
they care about developmenting a quarterback right now, like, hey,
we gotta make sure she door gets reps because long
term he could be our backup of the future. No, No,
they need a win, and they believe that Cooper Rush
gives them the best has to winning Cooper Rush and
the last, but not least, the last time we saw
Shador play an NFL game was a preseason game against
the Rams. He was three or six for fourteen yards,

(21:30):
sacked five times. He only got one first down during
that time. His average time of throw was five and
a half seconds. I'm with you, you know what I'm saying, like,
but I'm just saying is it's we still we're assuming,
based on reputation that this was a done deal. For
got conclusion, he would have been the number two. And
so far, outside of his first preseason game, we haven't
seen anything in the rest of the preseason. We haven't

(21:51):
heard anything out of Cleveland that will suggest that he
is definitively an NFL caliber, you know, starting quarterback, even
with an injury.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
The one thing I will say, specifically with the Ravens,
had Lamar Jackson not been there, or if you caught
Lamar when he's thirty three thirty four kind of towards
the end, I can understand. The one thing I would
say I like about that franchise, and you've heard me
say it many times before. Is I love John Harbaugh's
approach to who I got, meaning who do I have?
I got Joe Flacco. This is how we're gonna cater

(22:21):
the team. Okay, but I got Lamar Jackson. This is
how we're gonna cater the team. And you know as
well as I know a lot of times teams, well,
this is how I do it. So you better fit this,
You better be this square that can fit in this
round hole, or you know.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
What I mean.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
And I do think John Harball is the type that,
let's just say Chador was able to get some play,
he would say, all right, we're gonna try to find
what works for Shador. Let's cater to Chaduur. And that's
a compliment to John Harbor, and that I do think
he does well because Lamar Jackson, some other teams, Roger
would have had him trying to be a receiver, because
they would have had the brain with brand of the
forward site and the wherewithal to say, let's cater to him.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
All right, So there you have it. We got again.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
We got Ben Arthur getting ready to join us here shortly.
We'll talk some more NFL headlines with him right now,
Isaac Longkrown Island.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
It's gonna get you sett on trending.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
It is The Odd Couple, Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington, Rob
g here on this worship Wednesday, and we are joined
now by Ben Arthur. He is Fox Sports NFL reporter
Ben Why Arthur on ex give him a follow?

Speaker 4 (23:34):
Ben? What's up man? How you doing?

Speaker 6 (23:36):
I'm doing well. How are you guys doing?

Speaker 4 (23:38):
We're doing excellent man. And uh, obviously he's been some
good football.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Here we are at the end of week four, getting
ready to gear up for week five.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
You know what you know, Rob g did. I don't
know if you heard.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
We just had a conversation. We're talking about Shador. We've
talked about this, we talked about that, we talked about him.
One of the conversations nobody really having us about the
number one pick, cam Ward? Why is nobody talking about
cam Ward?

Speaker 4 (23:59):
The number one pick?

Speaker 3 (24:00):
The team isn't great, they would be something else. As
he said, I won't say if you called the team
something else.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
What do you make of just.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Where he is so far and the Titans just as
a whole does far in this season.

Speaker 6 (24:13):
I think Cam is coming along right. I think he's
having all the ups and downs that you would expect
young rookie quarterback to have in the NFL, especially with
considering the supporting cast or lack thereof, that he has.
Right like, the offensive line that they had a lot
of hopes for it here in Tennessee hasn't lived up

(24:34):
to expectations. Injuries have played a role, but the old
line hasn't been good. He's really not getting what he
needs from Calvin Ridley, the other pass catchers haven't really
stepped up to the plate, and the team is just bad.
Right Like, the defense has struggled, the play calling has
been an issue. I think everyone knows about this rapidly

(24:56):
heating up seat that Bryan Callahander coaches on the There's
a lot of dysfunction and ineptitude around him, and and look,
he's had his own struggles along with it too, But
I think his demeanor has been really consistent and even
though you know, hasn't necessarily been great just from a

(25:17):
you know, football side, of things. Just overall, I think
each of the games so far, I think you've seen
one or two plays where it really makes you think, Man,
if the Titans can really figure it out around him,
they might have something there. And so that's kind of
my takeaway with Cam to this point. It's still very early, right,

(25:38):
Like sometimes we have to think like it's only four
games in and and the numbers are bad, right. I'm
not going to sugar code that, but a lot of
it has to do with what's been going wrong around him.
But then some of it, too is the growing pains
as a young quarterback trying to figure out with the
team with a team that isn't very good. But like
I said, I do think there are flashes there and

(26:01):
I think in time he could figure it out well.

Speaker 5 (26:03):
Ben, Speaking of those Titans, the team they lost to
last week was the Houston Texans, and prior to last Sunday,
the Texans had not cracked the twenty point threshold in
seven of the previous nine games. Two years ago, we
thought CJ. Shaou was the next big thing. Nico Collins
is great. What's gone wrong with this Texans offense over
the last year or so.

Speaker 6 (26:23):
It's a few things. I think the biggest thing is
the offensive line, right Like, they the issues we've seen
this year were the same issues they had last year,
Right Like, I think what was it the divisional round
game they had against the Chiefs was a lasting image
for a lot of people, if I remember correctly. He

(26:44):
was sacked seven or eight times in that game, and
so they kind of entered the offseason needing to address that,
and they just never really seemed to address it adequately.
And then you trade away CJ's blind type protector, your
kind of perennial Pro Bowl left tackle, Laramie Tunsel, and
you're banking on some bargain.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
Guys.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
You have a rookie playing left tackle, and so it's
just been a lot of issues in that regard. And
then you add the fact that they have a new
play caller in Nick Kayley who's never called plays before.
He's trying to figure it out. And then they haven't
the run game has been so inconsistent. Right You have

(27:25):
Joe Mixon on injured reserve and it's unclear when he's
going to come back, and so CJ has had to
kind of live in these third and long situations. And
if they were able to run the ball better on
early downs, they would be in much better situations for
him to to make something happen. And so I think

(27:48):
it's all those things, right. I think CJ, of course
isn't blameless, right Like I think he has missed some
throws that he would not that we saw him make
just in his incredib rookie year. So I think there
is some things there, But I think there's so much
going on around him.

Speaker 4 (28:05):
The O line.

Speaker 6 (28:08):
Between the lack of investment and they haven't just been
good overall, the lack of a run game, and then
the play calling hiccups with their new OC. I think
all of those have contributed to kind of their predicament, right,
And it's kind of unfortunate for them because their defense
is I think their Super Bowl gliber defense. It was
the same situation last year. It's just like they're keeping

(28:29):
opponents down right, like you can't you really can't score
points on them. But if in turn your offense can't
score any points, you're not going to go very far
with that. And so I think that's kind of in
a nutshell what their issues do.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Yep, I've been saying that same thing, Ben Ben Arthur
Fox Sports NFL reporter. I've been saying that same thing
throughout the day, that they keep being in games the
last year and a half, they you know, almost year
and a half, they keep being right there. The offense
can't solidify and make those wins. I mean the defense
last year it got five owner was turnovers from the
Lions and didn't do anything with it. So, you know,

(29:04):
I switched to another team, ROGI, and I know I
was thinking the Colts might be able to be something
this season.

Speaker 4 (29:11):
Then I switched off them, and I want.

Speaker 5 (29:12):
You were so close. You were so close.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
I was right there. Tell me what the heck the
Tight or the Colts are? Are they real deal? I
mean they could have been four and ho almost or
is this just calm your horses, hold on.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
It's early in the season.

Speaker 6 (29:30):
I think it's it's both of those, right. I do
think it's early in the season, and that they weren't
going to continue what they did those first three games
when they were like the best offense ever through three games,
like never, like not punning and everything. They were gonna
cool down from that. But at the same time, I
don't think they're gonna revert to like what they've been
the last couple of years. I think this can be

(29:52):
a good team, a really good team, especially if Daniel
Jones keeps playing at this level. I think we're seeing
the power of just being for these quarterbacks who are
kind of given up on in certain situations, having so
much against them in their first stop or whatever, and
just kind of maybe a lack of, you know, losing

(30:12):
their confidence right coming into a new situation where you
have a fresh slate. And I think we're seeing that
with Daniel Jones, who you know, they did lose, as
you kind of alluded to the Rams this past week,
but I still thought Daniel Jones played relatively well, even
though I think he did have a couple turnovers, but
the totality of his season so far has been very good.

(30:36):
I think he has his confidence back. You see some
of the throws he's trying into these tight windows. I mean,
you just didn't see this Daniel Jones in New York.
I also think he has the best supporting cast that
he's ever had in his career. I think the Colts
have a very at least nationally, they have a very
underrated supporting cast. I mean, I think Jonathan Taylor speaks

(31:01):
for himself in terms of being like a top five
caliber running back. But Michael Pittman Junior is a very
good receiver, a number one receiver. Josh Downs is a
very good slot receiver. I think Tyler Warren could be
one of the best tight ends just moving forward for
the next several years. I mean, he's that good. So

(31:22):
he has some pieces around him. They have a great
offensive line as well on the run game, as I said,
And I think he and Shane Steichen are so much
alike too, just from some of the things I've heard
just about how much they vibe and how they see
football the same. I mean, all these things are contributing
to kind of what we're seeing. And they do have
some things to clean up. That fumble by Ady Mitchell

(31:46):
was something at the goal line or on that seventy
six or should have been seventy six yard touchdown, And
they have some defensive issues that they're working through right now.
But I think this is a good team. I think
they're going to be in the playoff mix down the stretch.
Something we haven't really been able to say about the
Bolts for a little while now.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
Man, we got about a minute left. I would ask
this one quick about the Jaggs Travis Hunter. The early
returns have been, you know, to be determined. He's just,
you know, he's trying to do both two different things
at once. And the coaches had said one of the
reasons why it hasn't really popped is because they don't
want to overwhelm him with information. Considering what they gave
up to get him, What do you think is the
best plan of attack so they can maximize his other

(32:28):
worldly talents?

Speaker 6 (32:30):
Yeah, I think ultimately, like you kind of alluded to,
like you have to eventually get a return on that investment, right,
you don't you make him number two overall because you
think he has pro bowl potential at two different positions
right at the same time. Though he is a rookie, right,
he's figuring it all out. There are bumps and bruises
along the way, and so I think the entire development

(32:54):
process is kind of you're constantly reassessing as you go along.
If he's being overwhelmed or has some things that he's
struggling with, you maybe need to slow down and take
it back a few steps. There's nothing wrong with that.
I think if we're making a big deal of Oh,
they're not getting a big return on their investment right now.
At the end of the day, it's been four games.

(33:16):
Like I think a lot of people who've been talking
like that, we need to kind of slow the horses
a bit. I mean, obviously, in time, you do want
that return on investment. But he is a rookie and
there's there's a process that he's going to have to
go through, So I'm not gonna paint him out to
be anything just quite yet.

Speaker 4 (33:34):
Well, there you have it, hey, Ben Man. We appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Yeah, we'll all see when Travis Hunter gets to get
more time and see what he've develops into.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
Thank you so much, Ben, appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (33:43):
Thank you guys, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (33:45):

Speaker 3 (33:45):

Can the Thunder repeat? Will the Lakers do better this season?
How does KD look with the Rockets? A whole lot
of storylines. I can't wait to have the season start.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
