your chance to be the last call here on the
program on this TV theme song Thursday and Alex I

(01:22):
think he had the game show. I can't remember which
one it was, but he's mixed it up pretty nicely
so far.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, NBA talk man, we had a good one yesterday.
Some people thought maybe, just maybe could be the NBA
Finals preview Oklahoma City Thunder went to Boston and a
good one there. Ended up being a one eighteen victory
to one to twelve for the Thunder.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
But we talked about it a little bit earlier.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Sixty semi three point attempts from the Boston Celtics, but
they are the raigning champions, so you gotta put the
three as we did. Yeah, that's just sixty three is
crazy and you miss what forty something?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
That's just crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
But conversation became, did we look at the NBA Finals?
Are the Oklahoma City the favorites? Obviously have one of
the best records the them in Cleveland and the NBA?
Are they the finals favorite? Considering how they're doing the
league right now? But a lot of people are saying,
pump the brakes on that they don't buy them right
now because they need to see it before they believe it.

(02:20):
Are you in that boat? Are you a see it
before I believe it? With the Thunder, it's just natural.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
I think people until somebody wins or breaks through, there's
always doubt. There was doubt last year with the Celtics.
There were a lot of people weren't picking them, even
though they had been to the finals before. They keep
winning all these games and all the stuff that they
had done. And Rob g knows this because during their
run last year, I separated from Chris. Chris was anti Celtics,

(02:48):
and I said, dude, I'm watching night after night. They
went twelve and four. At some point they're winning, like
what else do they have to do? And everybody still
doubting them. So I said, you know what, the Celtic
are gonna win the NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
And it was because they.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Kept winning and they were winning by double digits, like
every I was like, what else can they do? They've
played well, but there were a lot of people just
didn't buy into them. Tatum, Oh, I don't know if
they can close the deal, seal the deal, all this
other stuff, And the same thing is going to apply
here with Okay, See they're a younger squad. This is

(03:24):
all new territory for them, uncharted waters. People are always
going to be skeptical. People were skeptical of Denver and
the Joker. Oh yeah, you know that boy. But well
you remember people were saying, yeah, but he hadn't done anything.
The Joker hadn't done anything in the postseason, you know,
So I don't know, it's just meaningless points. And then

(03:46):
he put on an absolute show in the playoff run
to a title and Denver won a championship.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah, the NBA and NBA fans, we want to see
bumps and bruises.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
We want to see scars.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
We want to see that you've been through something, you'd
have been in a fight before. And that's what teams
kind of what we've seen historically in the NBA, right
you got you go back to the Bulls having to
get beat up by the Pistons before they pulled off,
the Pistons having to get beat up by the Celtics
talking about the you know, the eighties before they could
push through. It's just one of those things. Lebron had
to get beat up before he would eventually get there.

(04:21):
That's one of the things the NBA you can kind
of almost bank on, is that typically teams have to
go through it before they can get to it, right,
before they can get to a finals appearance or a
finals ring your point.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
The Celtics went through.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
It Eastern Comas Final, Eastern Cons Final, Eastern Collmas Final,
We're right there, we keep knocking, We're right there, we
keep knocking, get to the finals, lose to the Warriors.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Finally they got through. And now people go, oh.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
And if you ad ask people their odds on favorite,
not necessarily Vegas, but like you just asked them, polled people,
I would imagine most people would say they've picked the
Celtics as if we stand today, I would pick the
Celtics to repeat as just a year.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Ago, nobody was saying to them. Because they've proved, you
got to say the testing.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, And to be fair, you know, Jason Tatum had
fallen short a few times and kind of had games
where you scratched your head, like, now that didn't match
his talent or that doesn't match what we've seen from
him throughout the season. So now they're in a good
place right where we expect that. So this is what
Okac is going to go through. Also, I think it's
fair too because they're really young. I think the average
is twenty four point two or something, and usually you

(05:25):
got to have a greater veteran presence you got to
have a younger star, maybe in his prime twenty six,
twenty seven, you know, in a couple of those, but
you also have to have those older veterans who again
been through the battles, and usually you get a great
mixture of that. And that is where you went a
lot the Celtics, right, You start to have a great
mixture of talent. Drew Holliday been there been, you know,

(05:45):
guy who's been to the finals before, guy who had
been in the league for many years. Al Horford knows
every single thing about the league. You got to have
some of those guys on the roster as well. So
I think that's another point I would make with Okac
is who's that guy talking? All right, we've been looking
calmed down, We'll be fine. There's a long series. Who
is a veteran presence, who has that experience. It's a

(06:06):
long game, guys, a long game. We'll be fine. We've
been here before. They don't necessarily have that. So they're
a team and they come in on any given night
of Tuesday night, Wednesday night to your time. They're young,
they got energy, they got one of the best players,
if not the best player, or at least the MVP.
I think we all agree Yokis is the best player
in the NBA. That's tough to deal with. Thirty two
from him a night, bam. And then they get a

(06:28):
bunch of other guys who got young energy and skill.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
They're gonna beat you a lot of nights.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
But in a slow down, possession for possession, seven game series,
it's tough and you kind of gotta go through it
to advance.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, not being skeptical is just a part of it.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
And then it works the same exact opposite where a
lot of people were saying, even though and on you
know this all year, I said, the Chiefs aren't gonna
win the Super Bowl, They're just not that good. They've
been lucky, blah blah blah. But how many people did
you hear say, well, I can't go against Patrick Mahomes
and the Chiefs. They didn't want to. It didn't matter

(07:04):
what they look like. It's because they had already won previously.
So you give them the benefit of the doubt. You
give people who have won the benefit of the doubt
in a positive way, and you give people a doubt
for people who have never won. Trying to get over
that home it's a weird thing.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Abit I think it's kind of goes to a lot
of things in life too, Like the Chiefs you would say,
have earned that, Like I bet against them. If you're
watch you know it's what they were great, But it
is the only you know, I've been.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I was with you on that, like something looks wrong.
What's wrong?

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Man, Patrick's a little off right now, and you know
that they're barely winning. My only thing was but dang,
they literally got to the super Bowl. And the Eagles
are a wonderfully comprised team on both ends, especially in
the trenches with offensive defensive line. So it's like if
say the Eagles fumbled instead of the Rams, and now
all of a sudden it's the Chiefs Rams, the Chiefs win,

(07:56):
and now we're citing here. You know, well they didn't
did it again, you know, And so the Eagles had
been that great. That's where the Chiefs are. So it's
kind of a I get what you're saying. All I'm
saying they got you if you really watched them. They
weren't great off season, that's they told them. They never covered,
favored by seven, favored by eight, favorite, they never.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Always skin of their tea.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Something went right for them, somebody fumbled, somebody missed a
game winning field goal, they hit the uprights with the
field goal that bounced in for them, and it was
just unbelievable and I just kept them.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
They caught up to not having a better game plan.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Nobody thought they'd get blown out like the way that
they did.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
But I needed to say that the Rod Parker Way.
They got blowed out. They got blowed out, They got
blowed out, and there were a lot of people. I mean,
you know me, I enjoyed it because I thought.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Did you watch it?

Speaker 4 (08:41):
A line?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
I don't remember? Where were you?

Speaker 5 (08:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, I was at home. You're a Super Bowl along guy. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
For the most part. Sometimes I go to parties that
was like early on in my career. But for the
most part, I want to attention. I want to do
I want to pay attention.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
It sounds great and obviously, you know, if you're like,
I'm a fan of the Lions, of course, out of
I don't even know. I think yahud have win. It's
a big But at home ain't a bad idea sometimes,
you know, every now and again, you get up, you
mix up, you catch up with your boys. You go
to a little something, but at home ain't always a
bad idea, I don't. I think I probably watched maybe
four or five of the last six or seven Super

(09:14):
Bowls at home, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Just it just ends up working out.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
It just depends on where you are, and like if
you were just you know, And I'm not trying to
big up any Joe regular. It's better in the crowd,
it's better at a super Bowl party. But if we're
going to talk about it and think about it, like
like going to a sports bar.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Sometimes I can't hear the sound. I'm big on that.
I don't want to know what's going on. I want
to hear bad. I need to hear. Yeah, TB twelve
talk to me dollars. Need to hear Tom Brady. Okay,
I'll pass on ge Wiz and all shah.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Yeah, he gotta get he gotta come on. Give me
a little bit of Tom Brady at the roast. I'll
give me a robber, give me the roast tom Brady
when he was at the roads going crazy. Give me
a little bit of that. But he can't even get
back to this. I think, and I think Oklahoma City,
I think there they know this because if you heard
Shae Sga after the game, he talked about not to
Shae uh. He was saying, this is a good win

(10:09):
for us. This team is a great way to kind
of test yourself. They are the raigning champs. They've been
there before, you know, giving them a lot of the
praise of Celtics. They know they gotta beat them. They
gotta you gotta knock off the king before you want
to be that. So they're fully aware of that. And
that's why it's gonna be interesting offseason. I'm sorry, playoffs
postseason what I meant to say, because you got a
few teams you know, Okay, see Cleveland, but it's both

(10:31):
teams are people like I don't know if you get
to them, if Denver gainst Okase, I don't know if
they can beat Denver. You know, you got Yokas, they've
been there before. I don't know them Lebron and.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Luca and we saw Denver the other night put up
one hundred and forty out the blue too.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
It was they were not on that pace thing, no,
and that was that was the scary part when you
looked and went and that's the number one defense too.
So yeah, people are like, I don't know, I mean,
are they ready to beat? I mean, what of Minnesota
and Anthony Edwards go crazy?

Speaker 6 (10:55):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
And then you look at Cleveland. I like him, but
I mean Boston and then what if Yannis goes you know?
So that's what both of these teams are fighting up
against right now. They got to prove it. And that's
perfectly fine. That's with perfectly fine, that's the responsibility to do. So.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Yeah, it's gonna be very very interesting.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
I wonder where people if people will hope for something
new or look forward of seeing Boston build something, you know,
like because you'll be rooting for one or the other,
Like I knew.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Grassler actually a great question.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
I'm team I would in a perfect scenario, let's say
that Thunder got to the finals versus Boston, give me
Boston winning, because I would rather have start to get
towards an enemy. Right now, people are indifferent about Boston,
like I would want them to become the enemy. People
tired of them. That's good for basketball. Good you got
the people love hating and watch it. It's good right
you need a villain her and it's good for the ok.

(11:50):
See right with Burns, it hurts, we're mad, we disappointed,
and now you got to maybe a budding rivalry.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I think it'd be best for that, Yes, sir.

Speaker 7 (11:59):
If that happens, you say, okay, see flames out and
that's the story, and the Boston wins again and that's
a story. Is a bright product of that then become
and the Celtics become the mini dynasty in there, the
hated team. Does Tatum then become the face of the NBA?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Or still?

Speaker 8 (12:13):
No?

Speaker 7 (12:13):
Still he just just still know even though he's on
the the dynastics something missing light skins, I get it.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
No, Steph was arguably the face of the league. He
really was.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I mean I know he was. He was Lebron was
still like then. I don't know, but that's what I'm saying.
I don't think Steph ever as popular as he was.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
I remember the movie in the nineties two Face Off.
Can at least be that like two like a two
face or something backman with two face face.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Yeah, yeah, we're not doing two face face.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
No, it was because Lebron was Lebron the best player
and all that, But Steph you had walking around the warrior.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Steph was more popular because Lebron is polarizing.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
But I don't think that Steph ever eclipsed Lebron. I don't,
that's all.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
I don't think Steph Tatum will be If you say
that's popular, that's that's.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
I get that. That's a better way of phrasing it.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
I think Lebron was still the face of the league
where things went through him. He was still the statesman
of the league. Well he decided the bubble. They were
all gonna leave. They said, well, Lebron said he's gonna stay,
then we're all staying there you go. So he's a face,
but I think absolutely the most popular and that happened.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
So he even still Tatum with all that, he could
not do it. So basically way one day never become
the face of the NBA, is what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
I just don't. I don't see it. But because it's
more about that, it's more about more.

Speaker 7 (13:30):
Than just went back to back champion while I'm the
best team in the league.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
And even Giannis when he won his one in Milwaukee,
people that is a great point.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
You thought, he's most people like him, he's.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
In with him, he's built, he's funny, the donnas you know,
and all that and it still didn't work for him.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
You're always talking about somebody handsom Robby. And by the way,
I was in this. I was in the control room
that side, and I was watching you and Tatum was
on for a Laker fan.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
You all right with him? Future Laker Jason. He was
mister shot, Come on, Tatum, Robbers, everybody, thank you all right?

Speaker 1 (14:01):

Speaker 3 (15:41):
The actable Rob Parker kelvin Washington clearly a TV theme song.
Thursday Curb You ever see the episode where with that
documentary and how Curby your enthusiasm saved the guy from
a Dodger game.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Well, they a murder case. Do you ever see that?
I see that one? I mean I like the show.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
No, I mean there's a documentary about a guy in
real life. Guy long story short, would be making very fast.
Guy went to a Dodger game with his daughter like
I would do, rob g would do. All of a
sudden gets accused of murder. He's like, what was that
the game?

Speaker 2 (16:11):
My ductor?

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Did you have a ticket? He's like, no, I bought
the tickets off the street. And so you don't have
proof of a ticket. Well, did you buy anything credit card,
vending machine or anything?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Popcorn? Just cash?

Speaker 3 (16:21):
So they're like, well, sir, it looks like you that
the dude has been ready to go to prison for
a life. His lawyer trying to prove that he was
at the gang, trying to prove he was at the game.
How can we do this? And then he's like, man,
I was at the game. And they were like all right.
Dodgers finally agreed to show them their uh the footage
and where they were sitting, where they were sitting, but
they still can't find anything. He's literally about to throw

(16:42):
it in, like, man, you might be going to prison.
And at the last second, the the guy goes they
were filming something. Somebody was there filming something. I don't
know what. They looked up the log the Dodger and
it was an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and they
call HBO and they say, hey, can we please get
your footage and lo and behold, there's a scene where

(17:02):
Larry David is walking up and he walks right by
the guy.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
That saved his life. I ran it.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
I saw the documentary on this guy, ran into him.
Ran one night randomly, not about you.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
There.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
It was my birthday party in the rooftop of the
guy was there.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
He saw me.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
He's all your spectrum and he starts, you're the doctor guy.
Crazy story. So Curby Enthusiasm for always for me to make.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Me as people always criticized me about going out with
people taking pictures.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
My life is well docked.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
You listen, no one never commit a crime and say
We'll say no, bro, he was right here here.

Speaker 8 (17:36):
It is.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
That is true. And only did I have lunch. At
lunch with nine people.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
We all saw me to the end of the night
and nobody left early. And the whole group chat will
be like we we we got the text. He was there,
all right, let's get to it. Uh A seven ninety

Speaker 2 (18:22):

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Chris in New Orleans. J'in the odd couple. Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Chris?

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Heys? Look, Rob, I've loved your show that back when
you had Brosard with you, because you two guys are
true historians of all sports. And y'all can go back
and y'all, y'all, y'all know the history of everything. So
I just wanted to go through a little bit of
history on, you know, the face of the league. So
I was about ten years old when Burdon Magic came in.
Now prior to that, you know, I'll let Rob kind

(18:51):
of kind of put in who he thought was a
face of the league when I'm when I'm done here,
But I would imagine it maybe started with George Mike
and then he goes to Bill Russell, maybe Jerry West.
Doctor Jay was super popular. There weren't any real, you know,
powerhouses in the seventies, and then then it all changed
when Bird and Magic came in. Those were the two
faces of.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
The league that saved the NBA, you know, that saved
the league.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
Saved the league exactly. So then obviously who comes in
Michael Jordan still the faith of the NBA over archingly right,
but Bird and Magic handed off to Jordan. Then Jordan
hands it off to Kobe Kobe again the most Jordan
like player we've seen. And then Kobe's still in the
league when Steph takes over as the faith of the league,

(19:37):
wins the championship in Golden State. I believe in Kobe's
last year, but I'm not certain about that, but it
was close to that. Steph became the faith of the league,
and he's still the faith of the league. Why hasn't
Lebron been the faith of the league? Because of all
those all those guys, at least from from bird Magic on,
that was the guy you wanted with the ball in

(19:57):
the last second because they could shoot well enough to
have the ball early on. Lebron didn't want the ball.
It was Ray Allen making the shot.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Chris. No, I get all of that cooking. He was
cooking for a minute, but you didn't complete the meal, Chris.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
But definitely Lebron was a face whether or not they
it just is no way even Steph and Steph doesn't
make any big shots we talked about you. I'm just
you know, he's over for fourteen in those moments, so
it's hard to look at it and remember even when
he was winning the titles, he wasn't even the finals MVP.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
So I can't get with that. Alan Iverson had the
league on lock for a few seasons. How do we
go from Jordan to Kobe? Wasn't that in between?

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Chili? Tim something? You're in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up? Tim?

Speaker 10 (20:44):
Yo, Yeah, what vin.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
You?

Speaker 10 (20:49):
I'm good man. I don't know what I'm buying the Thunder,
but I'm pulling for him because the last thing I
want to see, because when you get to the finals,
I want to competitive game.

Speaker 5 (20:59):
Right.

Speaker 10 (21:00):
Well, I'm thinking if Boston or Cleveland make it out
of the East, I don't see the Lakers or anyone
else competing with them in a seven game series. Yeah,
the Lakers gave a great show and they might win,
you know, one game. But I saw Luca Dodgers last
year in the finals. I don't even see anymore of that.
Lebron he can't do it anymore. And so I want

(21:22):
to see a competitive series. And so if it's going
to be Boston and Cleveland, I'm praying that it's Oklahoma
because I want to see a competitive series. I want
to see, uh, somebody really go at And I just
don't think anybody else outside of Oklahoma City.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
You don't think Denver if yeah.

Speaker 10 (21:38):
Think Denver can not? Really I don't. I really don't think.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Yeah, I think series, I think Denver could. But I'll
say this the NBA, and it's unfortunate. You know, they're
looking and going, oh my god, we can't have Cleveland
and okay see, like.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
I agree, I told Roger that earlier, like they.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Okay one one it was like it was like last year,

a lot of conflicting issues, rising conspiracy theories trending upwards
to a recession. But guess what, Yeah, in a world
that seems so vast, uh huh, it's really not as
deep as you think.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
That was deep. That's why I'm so confused. Confused, confused.
That was deep. Thank you. He was saying, it's really complex,
but it's actually simple.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
That's what I'm saying. I got you, I got old

Oh my, you remember one that fross Over took it Back?
I love that show.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
That show should have been on network television. Was it
on c W and upn it was? That was on
the CW. But that that was a syndicated show zas
encountered network television.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
No, but I mean, but if you know what I mean,
like that should have been on the NBBBC, CBS.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
That show was so good. I'm serious. All my favorite
shows were on c W. Alright ahead, now it makes
sense why you like those old people movies?
