your chance to get in in case you couldn't get

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Love it. Oh man, we got some NBA stuff that's
happened which could potentially lead to just a conversation and
what could happen in tell us a little bit about
some trades between the Magic and the Grizzlies.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, guys, so you alluded to it earlier in the show,
I believe, But the Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the
Orlando Magic for Centavious Caldwell, Pope Cole Anthony, four unprotected
first round picks and one first round pick swamp on Sunday.
So Orlando's sending Memphis the number sixteen pick in the
twenty twenty five NBA Draft, which is just a few
(02:11):
weeks away. So that's the most significant thing in the
short term. But what do you guys think.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Interesting? Could you start to think to yourself, Okay, what
is Memphis doing here? Are they ready to do a rebuild?
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Right? Tear it down, get all these picks some stuff,
and do some stuff, ja Moran.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
If I'm Memphis, I might be ready to make that
move and decide he needs a new scenery, just like
we're This has kind of gone off the rails with
him and what's happened.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
It's just not the same thing we were looking at
this team just years.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Ago as like this team that had a chance in
the West.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Exactly, they should.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Have been the thunder if things didn't get derailed the
last couple of years with his off the court antics
and whatnot. That really has derailed his career and put
him on the backburn at least for now. If you
could get a good deal now, I'm not giving him
away now. Remember I'm not saying that. You gotta be
able to get something that makes it worthwhile. Like they
(03:19):
just got a Hall for Baine. I mean they got
a hall. Yeah, if you could get a hall, I
think there's something there because I don't know where Memphis
fits in right now in the West, and maybe it
is to do a rebuild. We saw one in Orlando
and what they've done, and now they're starting to add
some other pieces. Right, Yeah, where are you are? You
know I'm trading Job.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
No, I'm not trading Job. And I like the trade
they did with Baine. I'll tell you why. Number One,
I'm a big, big fan of a healthy Cole Anthony.
Cole Anthony to me, is one of those players. He's
got energy, he's got extreme confidence, he can shoot, he
can get to the rack. He's athletic for his smaller frame.
So I'm a big fan of that. And KCP is
(04:02):
like a horror man's bane, you know, good defender, obviously
really good defender, and he's passed his prime at this point,
but can knock down threes. And I think with them
they have enough guy they few it as we have
enough with Job that if we start to have some
guys who can knock down some shots. Cole Anthony can
bring a different type of offense than Job, different pacing
than Jah. So we have that in him and they've
(04:23):
got some JA. Triple J Jared Jackson Junior is an
All Star guy. Can be a Defensive Player of the
Year candidate every year. He can be an All Star guy.
He can give you kind of A twenty ten and
with some block shots, and I think they have that
and I want to I like what they're doing getting
Cole Anthony, getting some picks the sixteenth pick, being able
to build around that, and they still have some pieces
(04:45):
there as well that they want to give some more
playing time. I think they realize this trio wasn't working,
so let's build around the two in Jah and Jay
Triple J. Let's add in some other pieces, and then
let's go find some other pieces some more throughout the offseason,
through the trades and two drafts. And to me, the
reason why I think they're making this move now and
why I'm absolutely not trading job, is because this has
(05:09):
the opportunity look out wide open. The NBA's right now.
The Pacers could win, and you'd be like, eh, next
year the thunder could win. They might be the exception
because of how sixty eight wins. But you have so
many teef. I told you I fell asleep for a
year and I told you that Houston with Kevin Durant
won the finals, you'd be like, oh wow. If I
told you Boston, well not Boston, they tatums out. If
(05:30):
I told you the Lakers made a move and all
of a sudden, Luca healthy, Luca and Lebron and the
third person won it. You wouldn't be shot if I
told you that Jokic came back in one again. There's
so many variables in this NBAS This is now will
be the seventh year of a different champion. I think
Memphis is saying it's our go get it. It's wide open,
change up the pace, go get some different players, and
(05:51):
we got a shot just as night as anybody get that.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
But I just think that job with him in Memphis,
it just might be the right time for a change
of scenery, and even for the franchise. I'm married the
franchise don't feel as good as it did.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
They got rid of the coach clob and that's because
Jaw's there.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
I'm just saying, it doesn't feel like Memphis is going anywhere.
To me, it feels like they actually have taken a
couple step back, steps back, and there's like a dark
cloud over it.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
They got rid of the coach, they stuck with Jah
through multiple things, including even this last run last few
weeks before the season, and with the whole celebration thing.
Is he's shooting a gun. Don't do that again. Doing
it again the next night? Uh, don't do it again?
All right? What does he do? I'm gonna throw grenades
in the crowd like he clearly is just ja is jying.
(06:40):
And the Grizzies said, like a lot of women say,
he might be crazy, but that's my man, and I'm
gonna stick by him. Mary, you know what I'm talking about.
Don't that click? You know what I'm talking about. That's
my man. I'm gonna stick by him. Girl, Now, no girl,
you know he did this. He said that he's doing it.
That's my man. I'm gonna stick by him. And that's
what the Grizzlies are doing. Now, that is my man.
I'm gonna stick by jaw. And it reminds me of
(07:03):
Alan Iver sing with the seventy six ers growing up.
You remember that came in with a lot of stuff
coming out of Virginia. Nobody else. Everybody was sending all
their offers Georgetown. John Thompson sticks with him, K cool.
He ends up being an amazing player Georgetown for a
couple of years. Ghost League. This happens, that happens, little stuff,
kind of big stuff. But the seventy six ers like
he's our guy and we're gonna ride through the good
(07:26):
the bad. And they just stuck with him. And I
think that's what the Grizzlies are doing. They've made they've
made it apparent they got rid of coaches, but here
they're getting rid of Main who's been a model citizen
and a good player. They're getting rid of everybody. This
is he. We're locked in with JJ, Triple J and
Jah to just call it the four Jays.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
But but you might wind up being the Atlanta Hawks
holding on a tray young like you might wantch No. No,
I'm just saying, you know what I mean, Like like
there's a flux there in Atlanta where you're like, well,
what well, what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (07:59):
And I just think.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
There's something in Memphis now with him. And when you
trade Baine, you know where are you going? Like did
you make your team better or worse?
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Like Anthony, I like Ac better than the champion, but
he ain't Bane. They're not Bane individually. You got you
got the other pieces to that.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
You know what I'm saying, Like you love the draft picks,
but I'm just saying I'm.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
After you make a move like that, you start to
wonder where they're going.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
There's no clear cut like they didn't make that move
like oh, they're going for it, like they put all
their chips in.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
That's not what that trade felt like to me.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
It felt like they're they're pulling back, like like they
might now entertain trading.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
John Moran not the I don't. I don't look at case.
We are committing to the four jas. It is your
team's jah. You're the leader, you're the engine, Triple J.
You are a second option and our best defender, defensive
Player of the year candidate. Yearly, it is your two
team because I think the model is now two guys
(09:05):
with the really good other players who find their their
lanes and know what they're doing. And I think that
is what we're starting to see now. We don't have
to have the three headed monster, we don't have to
have the super team, we don't have to have the
Avengers unite as symbol. Let's get two very good players,
build a really good team around them, and let's model
(09:25):
our team after the Thunder. Let's model our team after
the Pacers. Let's model our team in the West. I
just the West is open, so this is the most
open there's No, there's no Warriors sitting there where You're like,
we ain't gonna do that with that?
Speaker 2 (09:39):
All right?
Speaker 3 (09:39):
You telling me now with what's out west? I didn't
the Memphis Grizzlies didn't move up in my mind after
that trade?
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Did they? Where'd they go? I'm saying this early, what
I'm saying, but usually if you make a trade, you
do some situation like that, you you move up, or
you go oh okay, like I don't. I I just
best say you had him six in the West or
something like that. I have him up one more slot
now because I like Cole Anthony that much. I think
he's gonna bring a different energy. I think he's gonna
bring a different pace. I think he's gonna bring a
(10:10):
different swagger. I think cac Pre is gonna bring some
professionalism is what that locker room needs. They need a
pro in there, and I think KCP will bring that. Obviously,
we'll see what the sixteen pick does. But if they,
if they're wise, lately, you've been able to get some
of these good draft picks that aren't like Rookie of
the Year averaging sex to seventeen. But if we'll see
(10:31):
it as a Thunder. You've seen it with the Pacers.
There's a lot of quality players because they're coming some
of god other days they're having to go get the
nineteen year old. You can get some of these twenty
one twenty two year old kids who can play, because
we're starting to see that now. I mean you and I.
You know my joke. I watched the marsh Maddness Tournament.
I feel like I went to high school with some
of these kids. They were so old. Some of the
teams were older than the Oklahoma City Thunder literally, So
(10:55):
I just stay about getting six and seven years COVID year,
this year, graduate year. These these dudes are crazy and
and I own money. They like, go be in a
G league, make it, you know, one hundred thousand fifty
or go to the school, get two hundred thousand on campus.
No and not pay rent? How about that no rent
man on campus saying no rent? Yeah, I do affortnitely
(11:16):
be go play for the you know, the South Bay
Lakers or some other teams on them. Know me, I'm
just sitting there.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
I feel like you guys in a way are sort
of both right or at least have a point to
an extent, because if you think about it, they are.
They must be looking at both teams that are in
the finals right now, the Pacers and the Thunder, and
look that both went through a rebuild and you know,
stockpiled a ton of picks. So I actually do think
that the Grizzlies are kind of conceding that it's time
for a rebuild year. But I think that they are
(11:42):
doing it with the end goal being a championship, and
obviously that's any NBA team. But look at how both
the teams that are in the finals right now, both
of them benefited from trading away a major player in
five George and then drafting really really well and then
being in the finals a few years, which took.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Get my point, like, like when you make that trade,
I didn't look at it right away and go oh wow,
there they just took a step up in the West.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
That's not right.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Well, they traded away one of their best players, which
in theory takes them a step back. But I think
what Kelvin is saying is that there's still the draft,
there's still free agency, so they're not necessarily taking a
step back.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Sometimes you get addition by subtraction, meaning maybe Bain was
just because Okay, it's that sit you those three guys
are plateaued, and maybe maybe we'll be better off with
having a two headed monster. Job being the spear on
the offensive end, Triple j being the offensive ends, but mostly,
you know, especially the defensive end. And then you got
a bunch of guys starring in a row. Maybe Cole
Anthony's about to be six Man of the Year giving
(12:38):
you sixteen to point off the bench with. Have you
seen him play that? He can play, athletic, can shoot again,
got toughness to him, some great munks, he stays healthy.
I'm actually shocked the Magic got rhythm. But he's a
good piece to get rid of. And obviously, if you're
the Magic, Yeah, if you're the Magic, you like this
because now I got a shooter to with the with
Paolo and uh Wagner Wagner, he fits great and I'm
(13:00):
on the Magic. When it comes to this upcoming season,
that's a nice young team. This the NBA has a
bunch of teams with a bunch of guys, not just
at Lebron and a d or you know, Kyrie Lebron
or Stephan It's like a team with a bunch of guys,
which is why we can get these these one time
champions and then another year we get another team.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven,
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
It's pretty simple, John Moran, what would you do? Would you?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Would you move them time to make make something different
happen in Memphis?
Speaker 1 (13:33):
A rebuild or that's my man? I'm ana go stick
by or are you gonna stick by him?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Like Kelvin who believes that it's okay you can get
rid of pieces, but you still want to hold on
to him and you want to build around him, and
he's that guy. We'll take your phone calls. Next, it
is The Odd Couple on a Magic City Monday, Rob Parker,
Kelvin Washington right here on Fox Sports Radio, Stick and
Stay America.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Be sure to catch five editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm Eastern,
four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
App Fox Sports Radio. A Couple, Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington
on a Magic City Monday. Miss Mary Mack on the
Ones and Twos for over forty years, Tyre Rack has
been helping customers find the right tires for how, what
and where they drive, ship fast and free back by
free road hazard protection with convenient insulation options like mobile
(14:32):
tire installation, tire rack dot Com. It is the way
tire buying should be. Hey, Robin and I having a conversation.
By the way, Julian McWilliams, CBS Sports National Baseball reporter
getting ready to join us in about less than ten
minutes here and just a little bit, Robin and I
have a conversation about the trade that just happened between
the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic sending Desmond banged there
getting KCP back Cole Anthony's. They had to swap a
(14:53):
bunch of picks to get them. But just to me,
I thought it was a good pick. I thought it
was a change of pace. They kind of had the
same thing going on now for the last four years,
and they want to change the pace. And I'd say
they it's a declaire and a decree that John Morant
is their leader. Jared Jackson Jr. Is there, you know,
number two up, and we're gonna build around that. You
look at it as an opportunity to maybe get better
(15:14):
by trading joh.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Yeah, I just think that, you know, maybe this is
your opportunity to change things.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
And uh, you know, once people see you're.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Willing to deal, Hey, maybe John's available, Maybe we should
go there and see if you can get a player.
I'm not saying like totally throwing the towel or whatnot,
but it's a chance to do something different.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
That's all I mean.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
All right, let's see Andre in Massachusetts. You're on they
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Dray, Hey, how
you doing.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
Thanks for taking a call. Yeah, it's a chance for
both teams. In terms of Memphis. For me, you know,
it's a catch twenty two from the standpoint that they
put the ball in Josh's hands to say, this is
your team, what direction you want to take it. But
at the same time, there's other team that have expressed interest,
specifically the Miami Heat. So they might be seeing some
of the writing on the wall that John kind of
(16:05):
inches inching his way away from Memphis, and so they're
preparing themselves for what the team with, what the next
iteration of the team is going to be after John,
I think specifically getting you know, making the move at
head coach, even though he was an assistant there. It
could lead to the perceptions that Memphis is looking for
the next version of what their roster will be with
or without John Moran.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
So what would you do, dra would you would you
trade John? Or you trade them?
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Or not?
Speaker 6 (16:30):
For me? I would you know?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Not give him away? Not give them away? Now, I've
got to be a.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
Good there's teams. He would be a hot commodity, and
I think the Memphis Grizzlies could build around Jaron Jackson
Junior and bring in other players in pieces. Point in fact,
John Moran is an All NBA player, but will he
play okay? So you take away the terrock coach that
was there.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
I think there's.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
Questions will he be consistent in Memphis going forward? That
that's the issue with John, not what he.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Is right and the idea that you can maybe Andre
like he needs to change his scenery. Maybe Memphis has
played out for him. Maybe he'll never be any better
than he was the first few years.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (17:10):
And then you can do again to deal with Miami.
You bring in somebody like a Tyler Hero.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Who would have the man if you Andre, if you
don't get off my phone. Andre I am not trading
Ja Moran, just Tyler Hero. Are you kidding me? One guy?
First of all, Tyler Hero good player without a doubt,
good player. Ja Moran is a player who can win
you a game, who can win you a series, who's
that unique, that special, and even in the midst of
(17:35):
all that drama and injury, still gets his team in
the postseason, can still perform. We've seen him win games,
ends games. No, no, no, I'm not getting rid of
Ja Morant. For that. Ja Moran is way for me
to start thinking about trade him. I'm talking about a
good deal now.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
I don't want to I want to make sure that
you're clear that I'm not saying just dumping him or
getting rid of him.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
I'm talking about making yourself a deal.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
And I think he does have because other teams might
be interested in him. And thanks Dray for the cultrat
it because he needs a change of scenery.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
They might be apt for that.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Saying like, despite what's happened, if you get him out
of Memphis, this might be rejuvenate him.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
It might change where he is.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Understand, do you know what I'm saying? If he gets
to the right organization.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
But I'm looking at it. He's giving you twenty three games,
seven assists, four boards and you know, steel plus and
he's still one of the best perimeter point guards. He's
one of all just he changes the pace of games.
He can explode at any moment and just finish a game.
But what has he done the last couple of years?
And I think I think he's again. I think this
is part of the journey man. His guys mad some
playoff runs. He's been in the postseason. You know, a
(18:45):
lot of guys coming to this league who are really
good don't even get into the postseason until year six,
five sixty seven. He's stayed in the postseason. He was
a one seed was a couple of years back. I
mean it's two seeds. So I just think I'm not
getting rid of that guy right now. Who's that dynamic
who again has had a couple of foolish young moments.
(19:05):
But I think it's starting to grow, starting to mature,
at least I'm hoping. And either way, I think if
nothing else, they've just made their bed and say this
is our guy, win loser, draw, for better or for worse.
This is our guy, and this is what it's gonna be.
And I think they've just they've pretty much told us
that they're not gonna budge right now with him. By
the way, we got to the thunder really running away
with this right now forty five thirty two. Their defense
(19:27):
is it's ridiculous, rob I mean, when you watch them
and they're really going at it, it feels like they
have six men on the court. I keep saying that
because it's just well, they're allowed to play very physical,
and that it just jumped passing lanes better than any
team I've ever seen. To just look at it. They're
just struggling. That's a terrible shot we even look at
that's a terrible shot by Halliburton.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
But there's also a lot of contact that we don't
normally see in the NBA. I see why their defense
was number one, seriously, because you just don't see that
much where people are so physical.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
It's a throwback, it really is.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
And I'm not saying that the Pistons in the two
thousand and four, but it's a throwback of defense.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Did they're a little different than that Piston scene that
was up front? Yeah, Like, but you had the bigs
download to block shots. What she is saying, like defensively
where it's such a problem. Dude, This is incredible to watch.
I mean they got they're holding the pacers only you know,
thirty two points currently. At this rate, placers can explode
any moment. We've seen that, So you'll watch it and
keep you updated on it as well. On the way,
we got Julian McWilliams, CBS Sports National Baseball reporter. We
(20:31):
talk some ball with him as well. Right now, Steve,
the Sega is gonna get you settle. What's trending, Hay,
Steve Hello.
Speaker 7 (20:36):
Oklahoma City forty five thirty two over Indiana mid second
quarter Pacers with ten turnovers so far. Tyrese halliburt and
is back on the quarter after he had a rap
on his right calf. Twelve minutes on the court. He
is scoreless, zero four shooting from the floor. Okaysee is

Club World Cup in Atlanta. Chelsea beat LAFC two to

tonight in La sho Heyo Tani is the Dodger DH
and leading off again. He's also their opener on the mound.
Could only pitch about an inning or so. He hasn't
pitched in a game in nearly two years. By the way,
the leading vote getters for the All Star Game are
sho Heyo Tani in the National League, Aaron Judge in
the American League once again an NBA Finals Game five.
(22:47):
It is Oklahoma City forty seven thirty three over Indiana
in the second quarter.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Back to you, Steve, thank you, have a great night.
It's the ocauple. He's rob. I'm Kelvin on a Magic
City Monday and join Now. By Julia McWilliam m, CBS
Sports National Baseball Reporter by Julian mack on X. Julian,
what's up, yo? How you doing Man doing great?
Speaker 2 (23:10):
How are you can't complain?
Speaker 6 (23:12):
Can't complain?
Speaker 3 (23:13):
And here's the story the Devs trade to San Francisco.
Bombshell that you're all over because you were the Red
Sox beat.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Reporter for the Boston Globe before.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
You moved over to CBS Sports as a national baseball reporter.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Give us some background on on this thing happened. And
we know.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Uh that there was he Devas was wasn't happy because
they replaced him at third base.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
And just give us some background on why this has happened.
Speaker 6 (23:41):
He is so it started even before spring training. You know,
I had gotten text message even getting back to last
year from some people saying that the Red Sox would
have a load of interest and and and Alex Rerigman
on the free agent market. However, they never communicated that
with Rafael dev So when they signed him, Rafaela assumed
(24:04):
that that Bregman would moved his second he would still
be at third. That's what the team was putting out there,
although in their minds they were trying to slow play
it and get Raffie time to be around the team,
get acclimated to what Bregman was and be like, hey,
we're actually in the movie to DH. That turned out
to be a recipe for disaster because, as you know,
(24:27):
Raphael refused to get off third base. Then he also
me got off third base and was a DH. Tristan
Cossens gets hurt and they say, hey, can you play
some first base? He said, no, you guys told me
to throw away my gloves. You the GM, you go
figure it out, called out the GM said. Craig Breslow
said he was a former player, and he shot that
(24:50):
he doesn't necessarily know the game. Those are Devis's words.
So once you do that, it's sort of turned out
to recipe for disaster. And then John Henry after Deveres
came out public to the media and said he wasn't
moving the first base. The team was going to Kansas City.
The next day, John Henry flew out to Kansas City
(25:12):
had a meeting in Raffield Devers. The meeting didn't go
as planned. Raphael still stood on his words, saying he
was not moving off the position. Then I think it
came to a point where John Henry said, you know what,
we gotta trade this guy.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I'm gonna say this, I want to say this. I'm
in Rafaeld Devers corner. From this standpoint, he's a big
time player for this organization, big time contract, all star,
all this stuff. Led the team what five or six
years in RBIs right, We all know that, and they
don't have the decency to say, Alex, we're gonna get
Alex BigMan, we want to get him he's gonna play
(25:48):
third base and not get the spring training and act
like well, you know, well we'll see. We're not sure.
We're not sure he's giving the job. Like why why
couldn't they help him? Why did they have a grown
man conversation before they signed Alex Bragman. We're going to
sign Alex Bregman. He's going to play third base. We
need you to move B DH or whatever it is
(26:10):
at that point, play D B the DH and not
play third Why is that discussed at spring training?
Speaker 6 (26:18):
You know why, Rob Because they never had to do that,
They never had to do that with him, and because
they've always treated him with kid gloves. You know, he
was a guy that came up through the system and
was sort of guarded by Mookie Betts, so sort of
guarded by Xander Bogert, was sort of guarded by j d.
Martinez and those guys, and he all he had to
do was play. And then they gave him this money
(26:41):
and said, hey, now we got to start having these
big man, these grown man conversations. But they were never
acclimated it doing it. And they knew Rocky is the
sensitive that Rossie is a good guy, right, And I've
been on a lot of places today, you know, talking
about him and his attitude. He's genuinely a good guy
when people is teammates off the field, because on the field,
(27:01):
I think it was an issue this year, but for
the most part, his teammates loved him because he's he's
a he's a good guy, and he's a productive hitter.
He's one of the better hitters in the game. I
think though it got to a point for the Red
Sox where they were so acclimated to enabling him. And
this goes back to last year Rob. I mean, he
was going off partnership deal, commercials that he had that
(27:25):
he previously committed to, and then then the Red Sox
said hey, we need you to do this.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
He's like, no, I don't want to.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Do it, right and then and then and then he
wasn't talking to the media for a time. That's fine,
I don't care, but don't have us waiting for an
hour and a half. And the team says nothing about it.
This has been built from day one. They were scared
to have conversations in ramfeets. They were scared that he
showed up out of shape the spring training because if
(27:51):
they signed Alex Redman and told him they were to
sign Alex Fredman. But you know what, he showed up
as he showed up the camp out of shape anyway.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
All right, So let me ask you this, because there's
the other side of the trade. And if you're the Giants,
are you happy. I mean, you've got a prolific hitter.
You're happy he's only twenty seven years old. But you're
also you know, naming some things that they might say
it's a problematic, but the living worth the squeeze.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
No, that's no, that that's a that's a great deal
for the Giants. And I say, if he settle RAFTI
next year, Hey, Bob Melvins, I think is one of
the better communicators in the game and says, hey, we
need you to play first face. He's gonna play some
first base, right, And if you look at the Giants.
They've never been a team that was that was hitting,
that was a hitting team. They've never been an offensive, offensive,
offensive franchise. Right, They've always pitched and they played defense.
(28:37):
They've always pitched, played defense. Rafield Devers's he's not Bonds.
I'm not saying that, but he's their best hitter in
that lineup since Barry Bonds. I stand on that, better
than Buster Posey, better than Papulo Sandoval, better than anybody
you put up there. He's that special of a hitter.
And I think adding him to that mix because he's
(28:58):
not gonna play third base mat Chapman's and even better
surd base, and then the Alex Frigman is like it's
not even close, but but he's going to be in
the lineup, in the middle lineup, and with that pitching,
with that defense, they're gonna go so to So with
the Dodgers, I believe.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
They're looking like they're doing it right now, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
And you mentioned Buster Posey, who's the new president and
general manager in charge of baseball operations.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
What a year he's had already, very good year.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I mean they on Friday, they beat the Dodgers, moved
in the first place, right, everybody, this is supposed to
be the Dodgers run away with the division, and now
you look at they go out and get one of
the best hitters in baseball.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
I mean, this is a banner year already for the Giants.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
And you know why to rob because he values traditional
scouting as well. Now that that was one of the
things that he said, We're bringing back traditional scouting, and
I think that's gonna be that type of atmosphere, that
sort of place where you don't feel like you're in
a chemistry class. Right the Red Sox, it almost seems
like it's a chemistry class when they're talking to you
(30:01):
about pitching infrastructure or hedge fund baseball, pitching infrastructure, prospect capital,
all these words that they use to count leverage situations,
and it's all these different this verbiage that is used
that creates this culture for players. Man, man, what are
we doing here? But at the at the center of it,
(30:24):
you know, I blame both sides, but I think ultimately
Rafi's going to be fine in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Well, I want to go back down by the way,
I guess right now. Julian McWilliams, CBS Sports National Baseball
Reporter on with the yac cuple Robin Kelvin on the
Magic City Monday, come back down from the Bay to
socaw with the Dodgers. Rob and I have the conversation
show he is getting ready to pitch you in the
next you know, thirty minutes or so. For the first
time in a couple of years, I believe he has
done enough if he were to pitch a night and
(30:50):
never pitch again, what the pitching he has done and
now the hitting he's done obviously his whole entire MLB
career to still be in warrant the converse, is he
the best or one of the best base he's saying
it's to premature. I think we've seen it, even if
he never pitched again, Julian, I think we've seen enough
to have that conversation.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Look, look, I look, I can't. It's tough for me,
right because he's a guy that that's a unicorn in
a freaking nature and I can put him up there
with you know, guys like Bo Jackson in a sense,
but I can't. I can't put him above with him
or these guys. I just can't do that because look,
he if you if you really break it down, right,
(31:33):
he's average since he's been in the league before he
got injured, ten to eleven starts a year, yes, you know,
like he's not making thirty starts of years.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
He's not a cy young This is my point, y'all.
Do realize nobody else does that.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
He's dombinant, but he's not available. Your best ability is availability.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
You mean he's not available pitching.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Yes, but that's what we're talking about. In order to
be considered the greatest. Many point is separately, if you
just make him just a hitter. I'm telling you right now,
I would take Aaron Judge as the hitter. I would
I would, I would over show hang and then pitching.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
They're way a ton of great pictures.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
So when you add the two together, I understand why
people go, God, go over him because nobody else is
doing it.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
He's a tremendous player, that's all.
Speaker 6 (32:27):
There's no way. I mean, what he's doing, what he
has done, is amazing to this point, I just wish
he gets to a point where he kicks the tires
on this on on on the on the pitching, at
least the starting part of it. And you know, maybe
he's a reliever or something like that. But you know,
I think it's it's just too much risk in there.
He's not gonna be able to hold up if he
keeps on doing that.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
And I don't think he's gonna do it much longer either.
I just think, to me, the fact that he's already
done it and did it at a really good level
that you even acknowledge that we've never seen that except
for Baby Ruth, and then turn around and hit fifty
home runs and still fifty bases. He is absurd with
He's done already. So to me, I don't need to
see anymore for him to be in that gun anymore.
He hasn't played like fifteen years.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Really, you don't have to see anymore. He could have
a four bad years in the row. He's the greatest player.
And I gave him the example Julian of Mike Trout,
who everybody considered was going to be the greatest player.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
Of course he gets injured lay in his career. There's
none of that conversation going on, right.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Nobody talks about Mike Trout as being the greatest player,
even with those years that he had which were unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
But his what he was doing was fantastic, great and
made him want one of the greats. But he wasn't
doing something abnormal. This is out of the line. This
is what If Travis did this for five six years
at that high level, we'd be like, what the heck
is that? But I'm just saying, and you can't.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It's a long way to go in order for somebody
to dub him that.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
That's all. Hey, we appreciate it, Julian Man, Thank you
so much.
Speaker 6 (33:49):
Always a pleasure to thank.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Someone, no doubt appreciate you. Yeah, he wanted to keep
going there, Julians. But let make that another thing. He
wanted to keep going on this one. All right, we

professionals help. While Express helps people in all industries, fine work.
Our sweet spot is logistic roles and Express never changes
(34:47):
charge the job seekers. If he's to go to expresspros
dot com. It is the couple. And man, we are
real quick. We're talking watching this Angels in Brooklyn right
now on the Broxes to say, playing the Yankees, and
there's a there's this kid more with the Angels. Christian
Christian Moore got his first hit in his game. He's
(35:08):
from Brooklyn, Son And how cool is that they keep
showing his family.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
You know that's five deep there. Did you know you
grew up in New York. I don't know if he
grew up as a Yankee fan in Brooklyn. You could
be Yankees or Mets yep and uh. And to be
able to get a hit your first major league hit,
it was a triple. A ball that judge dove for
out in right field went past him, so he got
(35:34):
a triple.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
So his whole family, Yeah, that's pretty Family's cool that
he was just up at the uh it's still bottom
of tent or the top of the tenth, and they
had a shot to you know, give a lead. We
were just saying how cool that would be. But you
can just see his chest. He had to like calm
it down. Excited the family's here.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Yeah, because he's only played he debuted on Friday, So
this is what is four.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Handful of games. Yeah, so this is this awesome, man,
But it's always cool to see that. And sometimes I
think because of what we do for a living, you know,
we get into it. He should have made the shot,
he should have hit that bat, he should got strikeouts,
should have caught the past, would have made a sack,
and we kind of forget, like, man, these dudes are
they were six twenty year old kids twenty two years
old dreamed of playing filling the blank sports professionally and
(36:18):
now they're doing it and how cool that is. And
you know, you and I've talked about it, just doing
what we do for a living. How you don't ever
want to get jaded and take that for granted that
last month made twenty years for me, round twenty years.
This is crazy. I remember just hoping and what would
be cool to do this and what it would be
like and uh moving to LA Like, oh my gosh,
(36:39):
it's the number two market. This is huge. Man. I'm
driving listening to people watching the news, watching TV shows.
If I could ever just host that and doing having done,
you know, quite a bit of what I wanted to do,
it's cool. Man. So to see this kid having his
bat's family there in New York playing the Yankees, that's awesome. Man.
I just wanted to kind of acknowledge that experience and
how awesome that is, no doubt. And then now we
(37:02):
got a game two man Halliburton, by the way, we
didn't get a chance to really talk about this dealing
with that right calf tightness. Right now, he's no points.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
I mean, it's pretty amazing that they haven't been run
out of a building totally. You expect him to do
something in the second half to down what is it?
Is it fourteen or thirty?
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Guess what it is? At fourteen and a half. He
was been starting a limp since after game two. Remember
he's got that medical tape they put on and he's
been playing with that, and he had a moment in
this second quarter of Game five tonight where he had
to go back real quick came basketball. As we know, fourteen,
you just cut it to eight.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
You know, you got to make some ground up and
then you give yourself a chance in the fourth quarter.
Uh I do you want to say he's talking about
the NBA, the story about Stephen a playing.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Sol I'm on I'm on a I'm on a cruise boat.
What what has he done? So it was just right in.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
A fan caught a picture of him his phone like
a screen a shot and he has Solitaire.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
It's just like a you know, picture on someone's iPhone,
you know, or whatever. But you can clearly see Stephen
as phone. He's playing Solitaire.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
While there's a lot of humor to be had there.
That also was scary, man. No, I mean we were
just taking like he or his picture account. Seriously what
he was checking it real quick of the check hit
because he got a lot of checks coming in. And seriously,
you're on his checking your bank account. You got that
much many he's not checking in.
Speaker 8 (38:29):
Yeah, you're not taking away. Make sure to check clears
because you don't have enough to cover it. I'm just
saying it. But somebody took a picture of him that's wow, dude,
That's how I'm looking at it.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
And you know the funny thing, and this is what
why we brought up the topic. Obviously, you don't want
that to be a picture of you at an event,
and so people are taking a field day, yeah, against him,
which I understand, just the idea that he's not watching
the game. But I've never played solitaire, so I I've
never played solitary. I don't even know what to get,
(39:01):
not once, I don't even know what I don't even
know what solitary.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
No, you just do. You just bring all the cards.
You try to go from like I don't even know
what ace king Queen on down and then you're like,
I think it's like four rows because each king kind
of has its eye. It's kind of tough to just
explain what it is. But you play until you pay
it by yourself. You just kind of be in your
own little world so you don't get locked into it.
I've never played like I didn't even know what it was.
Mama Dud. I would what do you do? I feel
(39:30):
like the parrot, what are you doing that playing solitary?
Mama Dud would be locked in on solitary man Yeah,
it's just it's just a game that it's taking a game.
We get it, Rob, you had too many friends growing up.
You never had to play a game settled down because
he was busy watching TV. You know, he's a TV kid.
Oh was it? I was out playing ball. You wouldn't
play solitary like nine ten. This is more like a
(39:51):
what would you say you get inside to like late teens,
early twenties. Yeah, yeah, really mid teens.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
The first time I played I was in like middle school,
late middle school, fourteen.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Maybe you played solitaire as well. My sister was a
big solitaire play But old people, it's like a gap.
It's like you play when you're young, and you can
play the game back when you get your fifties. Like
Hills were like working and stuff.
