Old In Polonies, former NBA VET and Fox Sports Radio
NBA analysts.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
He'll be along at the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
But Martin, let's talk some NFL National Football League, And
let's talk about the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders, and
we've heard the talk and Aaron Rodgers whispering sweet nothing
in Davonte Adams can't wait to play with him again,
ear and whatnot. And I just wonder, is that noise
(01:40):
whispering and all that stuff out there, because Davante has
kind of gave him the green light to be like,
you know, I really don't. He went there for Derek Carr, right,
he went there for his ex college teammate, quarterback Derek
Carry wanted to move out of Green Bay. All that stuff.
I get it makes sense, but that doesn't mean that
the Raiders would to keep Derek Carr. And the first
(02:01):
thing they do is they jettison him out right after
the first year. So then you're Davonte, his numbers have
gone down. Who is the guy, Aidan O'Connell. Is that
the guy's name.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
It's a mix between aid and O'Connell and Gardner Minshew,
which I'll call backup quarterback central.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Okay, And if you're Davonte Adams, they're hoping to get
to the Hall of Fame too.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
My god, you're looking at it going.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Is this really where I want to be, Like, really,
where are the Raiders going home?
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Dinner? Maybe a show. They're not going anywhere, Martin.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
I mean if you're the Raiders and you can maybe
fleece the Jets and get something and start the clock again, right,
I think the Raiders should trade Davonte Adams. Send them
to Aaron Rodgers, send them to the Jets. Let them
ever reunited and it feels so good moment? Am I crazy?
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I say this?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
If the Raiders are not ready to make a massive
trade for a quarterback, then the answer is trade Devonte Adams.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Because you got you got.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
We was talking about Michael Parsons and is he a
top five ED rusher? You definitely got a top five
edg rusher and Max Crosby on the other side, right,
you got a guy in Antonio Pierce that they love
to play for. When we saw that last season, and
they found a cornerback in Jack Jones who, if he
could stay out of trouble, is a shut down type
corner the guy who inter Remember the guy intercepted Mahomes
(03:25):
on Christmas Day and handed the ball up into the
stands to the Raider fan. Everybody said he was holding
from a chief's kid. Yeah, that guy can play straight
up play. If you're not gonna trade for like, go
and go get a guy at quarterback, because I think
if you called Jerry See, you know we'll pay Dax
fifty seven to fifty eight million dollars a year.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Trade him over this way.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
If you're not willing to do that, then go ahead
and trade Davonte Adams, because I don't I know you
haven't seen this. Probably the Netflix series Receiver Danton, where
Devonte Adams is one of the featured guys DD. You know,
he's fifth all TI time in red zone touchdowns. I
did who was that playing? Who was he playing with
with the Raiders at the time. It's like this, they
(04:07):
followed him last season, right You're talking about just last
season all times when he was with the Packers, right.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Well, he also scored something with the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
But his point was, I've scored three touchdowns this year
playing with Jimmy Garoppolo as my quarterback. He's like, yo,
I'm good at this. Basically I can. I can get
up and get up with the best of him. And
if you saw him throughout that series, he was frustrated.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
He was I saw the thing, and I saw clips
like I'm getting fed up every game and I'm getting
hit a lot, and.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
He's you know, he just evident that he is not
happy with his Uh, he was not happy with it,
and he started to smile a little bit after they
fired McDaniels and went on to AOC But the reality,
you know, Aid and O'Connell. But the reality of the
situation is eight and O'Connell is a fourth round rookie
who ended up getting sacks seven times against the Chargers,
who then fired their coach.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Right, you know what I'm saying, Like, that's.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
How it ends up, Like these guys are not NFL quality.
Start garding quarterbacks and if you're not gonna go get one,
you might as well go ahead and trade DeVonta Adams
just like he moves on from Josh Jacobs this offseason.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, I just I don't see why you would hold
on to him without you know, without a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
I don't think that that makes any sense. If you're
the Raiders, you got to determine where are you in
or out? What are you? What are you?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I know they got some a couple of plates you
just mentioned on the defensive side, right, So are you
really vying Martin? Are you really gonna make a push?
Not with those two quarterbacks, you're not. I would love
that's the problem, just as a.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Fan of the game and a guy who like you know,
I know some of those guys down at Long Beach
Polly where Antonio Peerce was coaching in high school and
all that, and I'd love to see Antonio Pierce be
set up to a situation where he can actually have
an opportunity to try to win. And so I'd love
to see them go get a quarterback. But if you're
not going to do that, it makes no sense to
(05:57):
keep Davante out there because they the Raiders have weapons.
Wonta Adams and Jacobe Myers are two really good wide receivers.
Devanta Adams is a Hall of Famer and Jacoby Myers
to me is one step below the top tier of
guys when you look at the work that he does,
the stuff he puts out on tape.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Jacoby Myers can play as well.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Right, but the only issue is we get that and
he could padd some stats for sure. I mean, he's
gonna make some plays and get some But if you're
not really trying to win a Davante Adams you know
what I mean. I'm looking at it from that standpoint
where he might continue to be frustrated.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Well, the move is the move would be to call
the Jets who Aaron Rodgers has over a barrel? Call
the Jets and say, look what's it going to cost?
Speaker 1 (06:41):
All right? Aaron Rodgers tall?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Aaron Rodgers really, who's down there playing golf somewhere right now?
Call Aaron Rodgers and tell him, look, go tell your GM.
You want Devonte Adams figure this out and give us
you know, your first round picks are coming up soon,
you know whatever picks are coming up soon.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
And then Aaron and DeVante right.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Off into the sunset together because they will both make
the Jets better right here, right now. But the hall
you would get, because the whole reason that Jets coaching
staff still has their jobs right now is because Aaron
Rodgers got hurt on the fourth player of the year
and they just decided to take a mulligan because they
had already decided they couldn't win with Zach Wilson and
then four snaps in even though they knew.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
The year before with Zach Wilson. Now that to me,
was the biggest mistake ever made.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
It not even be a funny.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
It's one of the things that I like as a
radio host and a sports commentator. One of the things
I couldn't believe I missed it. I couldn't believe I
didn't see it in the moment that Zack Wilson was
still the backup quarterback and then all of a sudden
he's trotting back out there. Because if you should have
moved on from him entirely, they should have moved on
from him entirely. They already they already right that he
(07:45):
couldn't play. And then you have an older quarterback. Do
you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Like you have to Martin, as you look on your
team and you evaluate and say, worst possible scenario, Aaron
Rodgers gets hurt. Do we want to put Zack Wilson
in am I right? Like that that has to be
thought about at the meeting. You can't go, well, Aaron's
gonna play all seventeen games and we don't have to
worry about it.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Just hold them and we don't have to pay them
or whatever. It won't hurt us. On the camp Like,
you can't look at it like that.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
You got to say, the worst case scenario is Aaron
Rodgers has four snaps and then we got to play
Zach Wilson.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Right, we're trying to convin gets hurting training camp, but
what do you gotten hurt in training camp? Something like that,
And I just as a commentator, I was mad. I
was like, damn, I just completely missed that. But if
I'm the Raiders, that's my move unless I'm going to
trade for a quarterback and get somebody in here who's
an adult in the room. Because both ade O'Connell and
Gardner Minshew. As funny and eclectic as Gardner Minshew is,
(08:41):
he's not a starting quarterback in the NFL. And it's
just evident by his careers thus far in the league,
Like he could get you a couple of games. He's
a quit essential backup. I think both of those guys
are quit essential backup. They're starting more than five games
for you, you're probably in a bad spot right.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
And you're probably not winning anything, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Like like like guys like that can play for a
few weeks exactly, just can't play longer than that. And uh,
that's where they are. The Raiders man, they made moves
and stuff, and you thought, man, are they trying to
do something? When you go get a Davonte Adams, I
mean that's like a on the Cusp Hall of Famer.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
I mean, I think he's a surefire Hall of Fame,
do you Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
The only reason I say no is the it's hard
for wide receivers to get into the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
I mean, like like the it's not it's not easy.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
So there's a lot of guys who are really good
who are either haven't gotten in or took a while
for them to get in.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
I don't know why. I don't like the system that
they use, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
It should just be based on if you're you got
the numbers or not.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Not this sports writers have to make a case for.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
You, you know what I mean. I don't even get
that Davante. But that's the way that they do it
in the NFL. So that's why I think it's a
it's a rougher path for wide.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Receivers, sure, but I think you ask your favorite wide
receiver who what his favorite wide receiver is, The answer
is Davonte Adams. The Raiders need to make one or
two calls. Either call the Jets and say what's your
price for Davonte or called the Cowboys to say what's
your price for Dak Prescott. That would be Those are
the two moves that the Raiders should one or two.
That's what they should do if they're gonna plan on
(10:16):
keeping Deviant Adams, who's thirty years old right now, through
the rest of the prime of his career.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
And.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
The Raiders Antonio Peers. I know that they.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Played for him at the end, you know, when he
took over and stuff, and people were excited about it.
But I just see them in a malaise. I just
don't see them I don't I don't see anything going forward.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I mean I see them as.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Steps back, taking steps back, obviously at the quarterback position.
So I think the only thing that makes sense is
to try to build and get something rather than rather
than waste a talent like Davonte Adam. And I know
he makes sure any quarterback a going to be better
because he's a great receiver.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
But but you're giving that up.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
You could get a younger or somebody else right to
be a wide receiver to grow with with.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
With Aidan O'Connell.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
If that's who you're gonna put out there, or at
least add some other pieces to this team that needs pieces.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
Yeah, I mean that would be a great opportunity to
do it. I just want them to give Antoni A.
Pierce a shot because how many times do we see
this happen where you know, you see the black guy
finally get an opportunity to coach a team, and then
all of a sudden they do nothing for him, and
then you know, three years later, two years, two and
a half years later, he's out of there and he
never gets another opportunity. When we see recycling of coaches
(11:41):
more than we see recycling of plastic bottles in the
United States?
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Would you write that ahead of time? Off the top?
Very nice? Yeah, So this this will be interesting.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
What's your gut feeling of this happening, because because I don't,
I don't feel good about it. I think it makes sense,
it's logical, But where do you think.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
I don't think he'll be traded.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I don't think the Raiders will move on from him,
because again, if I'm Antonio.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Pierce, I'm the first thing I do.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
If you trade DeVonta Adams, I'm storming into the GM's
office and said, what the hell was that about?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Right? How do you expect me to try to win
anything in this division?
Speaker 4 (12:18):
But the division to me is not up for the taking,
but because Kansas City is still there, and Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Will win this division overwhelmingly probably.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
But you got a situation in Denver where the quarterback
is if he you got a situation in Los Angeles
with the Chargers where they got a new head coach.
We'll see how he is. Jim Harball coming to I
know a lot of people are high on him, but
that roster is markedly worse than it was last year.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
I agree they they've downgraded.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
They have downgraded significantly across the board. It feels to
me like the wild card is in play in the AFC,
if you could just get a guy to throw Devonte
the ball.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
I don't think aoc Michi is one of them. It's
too late in the game. Though. Who are you getting
at this point? I'll tell you. I called Jerry. I
called Jerry.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
He said, look, I don't have a problem paying Dak
Prescott fifty seven million dollars a year. You seem to
have one. What would you like in return? I tried
to if.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
I was a team that didn't have a quarterback, I'd
be trying to get Dack right now.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Really at fifty seven million, Yeah, it's just gonna the
Caps is gonna keep going up and up and up.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
You sign me up. I can sign a four year
deal something like that. Yeah, sign me up.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
I would take the next four years of Dak Prescott's
coming off. Like Clarence Hill said earlier, the best year
of his career, second to MVP.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Voted okay, and uh postseason.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Look, hey, they need help in the postseason. The Cowboys
haven't got been able to get it done. But that
don't mean he can't. He hasn't done.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
He hasn't played well either, let's not You're right, the
Cowboys haven't done a lot. But Dak's numbers in the
postseason have been horrendous.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Even even two years ago. I mean he had a
stinker at home last year. Of course they got ripped.
He had three picks or something.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
He was he was awful. You gotta look at the market.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Man.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Kirk Cousins is older than me. Tore his achilles tendon,
then got four years, one hundred and eighty million, one
hundred million and guaranteed. Yeah, that's an open market. That's
that's another bad I'm saying. If that's the going cost here,
but that ain't sixty million.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
I think it goes, but it ain't.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Sex is young four years younger, and I get it
five years younger and better.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
All right?
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Where are you?
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Should the Raiders trade Davante Adams and let them reunite
with Aaron Rodgers, Go get some picks, Go get some
other players, do something else. Try to not waste a
talented or potentially Hall of Fame wide receiver with two
backup quarterbacks. Basically, it doesn't look like their offense is
going to be anything special. Uh, why even bother with
(14:44):
having Davonte Adams there? We want to hear from you.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. It is a
Funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker Martin Weiss in for Chris
Broussard right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (14:56):

Speaker 6 (15:31):
But instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on
our show.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
What you doing interrupting our promo?
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally out of context.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Let me put this into context. Shut up.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Yeah, it is the Eye Couple. Fox Sports Radio. Don't
forget Olden Polonies is coming up very soon. Former NBA
vet Fox Sports Radio NBA analysts. But we're taking your
phone calls. Should the Raiders trade Davonte Adams? We see
(16:21):
Aaron Rodgers making Google eyes googly eyes at him, and
he didn't have a quarterback. He didn't have a quarterback.
So what would you do if you were the Raiders?
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox is the number?
Eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Rob Parker and Martin Weiss In for.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Christmas, Let's go to Patrick in Baltimore, Maryland. Patrick, you're
on the eye couple on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
What's up? Patrick?
Speaker 7 (16:48):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (16:48):
How are you guys doing?
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (16:49):
Rob? Hey, Martin, and Hey to the fabulous Patrick there.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
How y'all doing great? How are you good?
Speaker 5 (16:55):
I'm good?
Speaker 8 (16:56):
Well, fellas. I think the Raiders should trade DeVante Adams
because think about it, the Jets are looking to win
right now, and they may be willing to give up
some major pieces draft picks or whatever so that they
can get a shown up Hall of Famer right next
to Aaron Rodgers. And think about it, the Raiders aren't
(17:17):
near good without a decent quarterback. This could give Antonia
or Peers some time because let's the expectations. You know,
people won't be putting anything on them because I just
don't understand what their organizational strategic plan is, Like, what
are they thinking about just because it's very confusing when
you look at the quarterbacks that they have.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Right now, right like, where are they going? Because it
doesn't look like they're going anywhere, right.
Speaker 8 (17:41):
Right exactly exactly. Yeah, I'm just confused by that. But
I would be in support of and I think it
would be for their best interest because if they can
get something, let everybody know, Hey, we're in a rebuilding year.
And I know, Martin you said that Antony Price may
go into the general man's office to be mad, Hey,
what y'all doing? But if he says, hey, this is
gonna buy you some more time. If you get a
(18:03):
two and fifteen season, you're not on the chopping block.
We know it's going to crash and burn. That's gonna
give you some hot draft picks. Later on, we'll get
a big haul from New York Jets and then we'll
look from there.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
Right.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Thanks, Patrick, appreciate the calls going to Tom in California.
Love you're on the out couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Tom, what's on your mind?
Speaker 5 (18:24):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (18:24):
Guys? And Rob? Just quickly, I've been following your material
since you're a writer at Go to Day.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Oh man, I will shake that that's a long time ago,
back back when he was filing columns on stone tablet.
Speaker 9 (18:34):
Hot Tom sure is sure is? I feel the Raiders
should move on from Devontae Adams there. It's not a
strong quarterback class coming in, but you got to start
to rebuild. You're not going anywhere you can get a
lot back for him, So I would move on from him. Now,
should it be the Checks? Everyone would love that?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Oh yeah, I mean they're not being a bidding war
if he was made available. I agree with that that
they wouldn't just let it be the Jets and nobody else, right.
Speaker 9 (19:04):
No, No, definitely not because you can get you need
to get a couple of early round picks, because you
have to start with the quarterback or you know, maybe
an edge rusher or a shutdown corner or something like
that that you would want to get early. But just
from the the entertainment value, should he go to the Jets,
that would be number one. The Jets don't have a
championship coaching staff, so it's not going to work with him.
(19:26):
You're going to get some good with Aaron Rodgers this year,
of course he wore, but he's not going to give
you enough to win a Super Bowl. So it's not
going to happen. So, but when it would be a
lot of entertainments roll the NFL fans because at the
end of the season for the Jets, they would have
given up whatever they gave up to get Devonty Adams.
That's not what they need. They're going to tear it
down and it would be a circus all season.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
A long until that happened, no doubt. Good call.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Appreciate you, thank you, thanks for the support to over
the years. Eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Let's go to Andre in Massachusetts day a couple of
Fox boards radio.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
What's up right?
Speaker 5 (20:01):
What's going on?
Speaker 10 (20:02):
TGIF thanks for taking the call.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
Listen.
Speaker 10 (20:04):
Davante Adams, the Raiders gave up a bit of a
haul to get them right, gave up a first round pick,
gave up a second round pick, and he's guaranteed what
one hundred and forty million dollars over five years. So
point taken. They do play in the ferocious AFC. But
the David's family they're gonna run contrary, right, They're gonna
do things their own way, so they're not with the
whole analytics, you know, let's get rid of him, get
(20:27):
a haul back and start rebuilding for Actally, I don't
know if the Raiders believe in rebuilding, similar to like
the Miami Heat with pat Riley, so I don't think
it's in their DNA. I also don't see DeVante Adams
like calling to get out of Vegas like I'm looking
like it is angry. I mean, obviously the organization, they're
not winning a championship anytime soon, right the team is rebuilding,
the need to find a quarterback, and they're in the AFC,
(20:49):
which is an absolute gauntlet. But with all those things considered,
you know, Vegas is a city, a lot of people
vibe even though it's one hundred and twenty degrees. You know,
they got to go through the tough time right now.
But he seems to like let there is my point,
and so you know, if he's if he's of a
mind to kind of tough out these rebuilding years and
be a good soldier like he was with Green Bay,
(21:10):
you know, when you know with those years of Rogers,
you know in the Frozen Hundra. My point, just if
he doesn't want to leave, then they shouldn't want to
get rid of them, they should want to put pieces
around him so that team can hold their own and
maybe compete for a playoff birth in a very competitive contant.
Speaker 8 (21:24):
Thanks taking the call.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Appreciate it. Thank you, Dre. Squeeze another one in. That's uh,
we got to we don't have another one. It looks
like that was Oh I thought there was one more there.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Okay, but I think I just would call the Jets
to see what the price is they're about to pay,
because I forget the call. I think it might have
been Tom in California saying the Raiders don't have a
championship organization. I mean the Jets don't have a championship organization.
In part, they absolutely don't, so you might be able
to really truly fleece them. And the way that we
see some of these trades go down is like, wow,
what it could hypothetically potentially have one of the potential
(21:55):
to be. Was this one of the worst trades than
in NFL history when you look at everything you could
possibly get back. I think that Jets team is desperate.
That Jets front office and that Jet coaching staff is
also desperate, and they also are just bidding at the
hands of Aaron Rodgers, which is probably bad math, but
you know, who have no choice.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Once you once you get a quarterback of that age
and that ilk, I mean, you're that's what you signed
up for. I mean, come on, like, you can't be
sitting there going and they got their coach and general manager.
They haven't won anything and no reason to be like,
oh my god, don't do anything.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
At Robert sal or O, what are you doing? Robert
sala what are you doing? What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Is you're not winning anything and you haven't won anything
for three years? Right, so what absolutely are you going
to stop from happening and change?
Speaker 5 (22:42):
So?
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I don't know what else they can do? All right?
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Coming up next, we'n to talk with Olden Polonies, of course,
a former NBA VET and a Fox Sports Radio NBA
analyst profess. Let's get you caught up. His name is
Steve the Sega Martin. I don't know if you know,
but Steve is the best sports update anchor on national radio.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
I know.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
I'll work with them every Saturday.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
I sit back and I'm just amazed, and you know
what the real thing is, So a lot of times
I'll do the updates leading into my own show, right,
that comes in at five, So I'll hear me and
then I hit Steve and I'll be like, wow, how
do we have the same job? This guy's so well,
that's what Steve said to me, he said, he said,
we really took a step down.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
I mean, so are you doing that this weekend? By
the way, I will be okay, I'm eleven to five
feeling it right, and then I'll keep a seat war
for you, Bud, Thank you very much. By the way.
Speaker 11 (23:34):
NFL rookies report to training camp for Baltimore tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Wow.
Speaker 11 (23:38):
Report dates for some of the other teams or nets
next week, including some reporting on the sixteenth. And you
know they've got that celebrity golf tournament started today in
Lake Tahoe. Happens every summer. They had the long Drive contest,
which was won by Travis Kelcey last year. Jason Kelsey
won it this year off the t three hundred and
twenty two yards.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Gonna be Taylor swift? Are you're telling me that she won?
Speaker 11 (24:02):
She hit it swiftly, but yes, and then you got
out of the actual course and well, let's just say
bottom ten is not Charles Barkley territory anyway. You know
it's Davante Adams tied for forty eighth with Charles Barkley.
They're in the top fifty out of ninety celebrity golfers.
Really again, what is going on?
Speaker 1 (24:21):
What is that back? Because Charles camp play right.
Speaker 11 (24:24):
No top fifty. This is like almost top half of
the ninety man ninety person field. And Jason Kelsey is
next to last after round one of the three this weekend.
Dead last Alex Rodriguez and it's really not even close.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Wow.
Speaker 11 (24:39):
Onto the baseball scoreboard show, Hey, Otania. The Dodgers has
hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth
for the lead.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Thought did you think it was going out at first?
Speaker 11 (24:47):
I would had a better chance in La you thought?
A ground rule double to center field. And the Dodgers
lead for to three at Detroit in the bottom of
the ninth. Right now the Yankees, Aaron Judge hit his
thirty third homer of the season. Yanks lead three to
one still at Baltimore in the bottom of the eighth,
Mets seven to four over the Rockies in the top
of the eighth. If Colorado loses this, the record will
(25:08):
be thirty three and sixty two Red's up seven to
four on the Marlins in the top of the ninth,
Pirates lead in the seventh foro to one at the
White Sox. Pirates rookie pitcher Paul Skenes will start the
All Star Game Tuesday night on Fox TV. He's six
and oh this year with an ERA of one point
nine to oho coming up among the late games, there
are four late games in Seattle, winners of three in
(25:31):
a row, playing the Angels at Anaheim. In just a
few minutes, Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert was replaced on the
All Star roster by Seattle pitcher Andre s Munos. Jalen
Brunson agreed to an extension with the Knicks three years
plus a player option. Detroit is hiring Luke Walton as
lead assistant according to the Athletic, and the NBA Summer
League is underway. We got an update in a moment,
(25:54):
but final just coming in from the w NBA Indiana
holds off Phoenix ninety five eighty six rookie Caitlin Clark
with twenty points, thirteen assists, six turnovers. And then there's
the game that Bronnie James just had for the Lakers
Summer League team in Vegas. They lost to Houston ninety
nine eighty. Bronnie James started with six points in six
(26:14):
minutes on the court in the first quarter. He finished
with eight points, three of fourteen smot tonight from three
point range. He was oh for eight. Bronnie James no assists,
three turnovers and the first rounder for the Lakers, Dalton
connect twenty five points in this game.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Back to you all right, Steve, have a great evening.
Thank you so much. It is the odd couple on
a funky flashback Friday. Rob Parker, Martin Weiss in for
Chris BRUSSARBA coming to you live from the tyre rach
dot com studios. Our next guest, Olden Polonies. Of course
we'll play in the NBA of Bett and a Fox
Sports Radio NBA analyst and Olden Howard.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
You say hello to Martin Weiss.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
Hey guys, Hey Martin?
Speaker 1 (26:57):
What's going on? My god? All is good? All is good?
Speaker 5 (27:03):
I love I want I'm not talking to you anyway.
So what did I do?
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Now? What did I do?
Speaker 9 (27:09):
Now?
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Come on, hold, what did I do?
Speaker 5 (27:12):
You don't respond to any messages?
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Blast, Wait a minute, you send me message to my phone?
Speaker 5 (27:21):
No, oh social media.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Social media. Oh, I'm sorry if I missed those. Seriously,
I'll usually respond text me or something. I didn't even
know what you would chrip me up? Was it something
that I said? You didn't like what I said? What
did I say?
Speaker 5 (27:35):
No, nothing to do with any of that, souff. We'll
talk about it, okay, all.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
Right, I'll look for your if you get to talk
about it. And apparently the man's got your block.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
No, I don't have. You've blocked. I don't know. It's hair,
sweater and a block. If he wants to know that's
that was for Doug Gottlieb, I blocked him. Did you
ever hear my song? Holding?
Speaker 5 (27:53):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Oh, well, I'll tell you what. It won't win any
awards anytime soon.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
All right, we'll find it before we get off here.
Bronnie James just played. I know you didn't see the game?
Speaker 1 (28:04):
What was it? Martinie shot the four three for thirteen? Oh,
free from three? Oh, free from three?
Speaker 2 (28:11):
And anybody cannot We know people cannot have both not play.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Well or have a bad night or whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
But how older and I guess the microscope of how
everything was orchestrated, it makes it even brighter and tougher
for a kid. Doesn't it that what you agree or
disagree with what went on the way it was orchestrated
is the problem.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Of course. And I don't have a problem with Lebron
or rich Paul doing what they did for their client
and their son. You know, it's like, Hey, that's my son.
I want to play with them. I want them on
the team, rich Fall, I'm powerful, that's my client. I
want them somewhere. But the fact that a second round
pick number fifty five, to be exact, guess, a four
(28:54):
year guarantee contact is the most insane thing. They have
opened up a dawgsbox that everybody's gonna walk through because
now that's my justification. You gave him a four year deal.
And again, the kid probably could have made it on
his own eventually, I'm not sure. But the one thing
(29:15):
for me is, like with some of league, I didn't
watch it again to day because I'm not big on
someer league because it doesn't mean anything.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
But it's so important that the coaches don't even coach.
That tells you all you need to know, right.
Speaker 5 (29:26):
It's so significant in this aspect you are playing against
guys that probably won't even make the.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
G League, right, I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
So to me, what are you gonna do when it's
stepped in front of your Kyrie or you know, Drew Holiday.
But to me, this was not this was not good business.
I mean again, I appreciate for what he did for
his son, but it's still it doesn't sit well with
me speaking.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Or Drew Holliday.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
He started that US Team USA exhibition match in his backcourt,
made Derek white Is on the way out to Abu
Dhabi to join Team USA, much to chagrin of one
Jalen Brown.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Old And what's he got? Jobs? He got job?
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Well, I was going to ask Old in his opinion,
but since he's so rudely interrupted, Ahead, Old, And what's
your opinion on the Jalen Brown saga in terms of
Team USA.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Well, there's so many different takes on this, you know,
whether it's he's you know, he's not a Nike athlete
and Nike does wield a powerful hand.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Thank you tell Martin because Martin doesn't want to believe
that Nike has power.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
There's a butt coming.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Well, you know, they really do, and I get it
all that, but at the same time, you know, what
they try to do is put the guys that kind
of like get along. But there's also the aspect of,
you know, he is very outspoken and everything else, so
that might play a part in it as well. So
there's different things. And until the USA Basketball comes out
(30:57):
and says something, you know, Glen Hill, you know he's
gonna read the script and I get that, but you know,
I think he deserved it more, you know, than Derek White.
But you know it's neither a nother because I'm not
thee in charge.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Yeah, no, I'm with you. I just think that it
was a slap in the face to Jalen Brown. Jalen Brunson,
you know, doesn't take all the money, leaves one hundred
and thirteen million on the table. Oh and this is
just a pet peeve of mine. Owners are billionaires. They're
not taking the less to help the team do anything.
(31:36):
I'm just not with that. I think you should get
what you're entitled to. This whole idea of notion of
helping the team and doing them to may let them
have flexibility so the front office can do this or
do that, I'm just not with that. I think you
should get your money the same way. That they don't
reduce ticket prices. The owners don't reduce twenty dollars beers
and fifteen dollars French fries.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
I mean, what in the world world would I want
to do that?
Speaker 5 (32:02):
This this is so bad, you know. The fact that
he did that is so bad on so many levels,
you know, And you know, I saw Josh Hart's tweet.
He should get a statue and people are very happy.
The Nick's are definitely ecstatic. No, you don't ever give
up money. To your point, the team, they're not gonna
(32:26):
do it. The fact I always say in the past,
when the players get traded, Joe, imagine wakes up. I
don't want you anymore. You're traded. They're not thinking about
the players in that moment. But to me, you should
always get everything you're supposed to get. This is a
short career, you know. Granted, you know, his father's a coach,
and maybe that's the trade off. I don't know what's
(32:48):
going on with this, but in my day, we're not
giving up money. I'm sorry. You just gotta figure out
a different way.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
To hand right.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Your job is to make it work right in the
front office. Don't ask me for help.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Oh then how could the players have ever agreed well
to what we've seen this offseason, how the second, the
first and second apron are impacting some of these free
agent deals and some of these moves that are have
to be made.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
You see the Clippers referencing it like four.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Times in their note about why they're moving on from
Paul George. How could the players ever have agreed to
something that's so prohibitive with these aprons.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
Well, because there's a thing right now that's going on
within the NBA where it's like everybody's in Cahusa and
everybody's in bed with one another. Yep, you've got former
you got former agents running teams, but their companies are
still there. You know. It's just mind boggling all the
stuff that's going on. It's just it baffles me because
(33:45):
that's part of the problem. Everybody's like, Okay, you're my guy.
You're my guy. I got an agent that represents three players,
and the head coach.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Look at the Look at the Pistons, what they got
going on there?
Speaker 2 (33:56):
They only they only hire arm tell them's people like
and like, if it's everybody there.
Speaker 5 (34:03):
It's the most insane thing.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
I don't get it.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
I don't have a job.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
You gotta make that call, man, get out there, to
get out there to downtown Detroit.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
Unbelievable, Give me a damn job.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Exactly, my goodness.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Creation all right, uh there you go, holding polonies, man,
Thanks for chiming in, Thanks for the knowledge and the info.
Have a great weekend, my man. All right, all right,
let's wrap this bad boy up. Coming up next, one
of us thinks that Joel and b should be coming
off the bench for Team USA, and should Derek White
(34:42):
be starting.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Is that what you're saying? Is that what he was saying? Well,
I guess you just ruined your own all right there
it is. Uh, it ain't me, you know that.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
But yeah, we'll do that and much more coming up.
It is the odd Couple. Fox Sports Radio, Stick and

as we put a bow on this bad boy. Rob
Parker along with Martin Weiss, coming to you live from

the air. So, Joe l embiid, your idea is he's
a ball. He can't play, so he should come off
the bench.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
That's not nearly what I said. I'm just asking or
even would intimate. I think that his game, though, is
going to struggle to adapt to the to the international
game when you consider that he is a He has
been the focus and center of the universe for his
team ever since he walked into the NBA as a
part of the process.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Right he's been the guy.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
And I think what you saw in the first you know,
you know, five seven minutes of that game when he
was out there, it looks like the game is a
little fast for him right now.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
I know he's recovering from him he is russ. I mean,
that's fine.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
I understand he's recovering from injury, and that's part of
the reason why he's so rusty. But as a result
of that, I think his fouling as well is going
to be a problem. Joel Embiid has never had less
than average less than three fouls in a season right
every season he plays.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
I mean, he's averaged over.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Three and a half fouls per game, and he has
the most fragrant fouls in the like he has sixteen
regular season flavor files, eight more in fifty nine playoff games,
had two in the first round against the seventy six ers.
All those count as personal files of international basketball. And
if he's not going to get down on the block
and back people down in a way that you know
(37:16):
he could really truly take advantage of guys, then I
think he probably would be better shuited coming off the
bench for Anthony Davis. I would start Anthony Davis in
his lineup, especially when you consider the international experience that
he does have, and I mean, you use him against
obviously the Jokic's of the world, the Frances of the world,
with Gobert and win ben Yama out there, but I
(37:38):
think it's just on a standard basis, I would rotate
those three guys and have Bam come in off the
bench behind him.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Bat. I think you're overthinking it when it comes to.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
The the team USA and overthinking the players and who
should be played.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
They got plenty of talent. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
But you're gonna go off of one game where he's
coming off of injury, a little rusty, and already you
want to bench.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
There's no reason to.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
I'm just saying you had the bench him like you
never play them no, but you're just I think that
it's the difference.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
If they both play right a certain amount of minutes,
it doesn't matter who starts, Martin. You know that In basketball, well,
I think it does matter who starts because the guys
who are in the second unit are going against other
guys in the second unit.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
I mean, you saw in that exhibition game. You saw
how the starters went down eleven to one, and then
they subbed in taller Halliburt.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
That was one.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
It was one guy watched it, I know.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
But when they subbed in the second team, the second
team ran up to score.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Okay, So if the second team came in and they
got outscored eleven to one, would you say that they
shouldn't come in.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
They should be the third team. Man, there is no
third team, twelve players on the roster. There you go.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
That's my point that it wouldn't matter. You would still
leave it as is. Wouldn't you want to the day
between Sunday and Monday? I wouldn't go to work there either.
But it's not one so if it doesn't matter. But
it doesn't, I'm asking you, like, how does that factor in?
They had a slow start the first he had five
twelve minutes. I know, but that that's the one time
that's that's not an anomaly. I mean, are you Joel
(39:13):
and b Fouling is No, that's not an anomal.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Okay, that's what happens five twelve minutes. That happens every night.
Speaker 8 (39:18):
No VP.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
Then he averaged four thousand game in the NVB Get
five the MVP season, averaged four thousand game.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
He's set five, still won the m v P.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Right, he won't playing five international file, I get it,
but he plays a right to be allowed. They'll make
you right, Oh now you're gonna use that against me?
I mean, I actually mean, you know, CBS, you know
you just read the papers. This he had he Joel
and beat his guys on files and uses the referee
what his advantage when he is playing on the offensive
side of the ball. These reps aren't nearly as good
(39:48):
as the NBA reps, and as bad as they are,
international reps aren't as good. They're not going to get
the calls that gets them to the free throw line,
which is a huge part of his game.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Do you expect this to happen, that they gonna make
a change.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
I mean, I think they will during this exhibition season,
of course, why would they not.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
That the whole point of it to help frame out there.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
I think that they'll let him play, let him get
back into the You have to adjust to what's going
on in front of you.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
You have to.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
If referees a call in a certain way, you'd have
to make some sort of adjustments.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
The guy has been able to play and win an MVP.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Even by making foul, So I'm just not ready to
panic over the first exhibition Olympic game, and my god,
look at what he did five files, twelve minutes. Let's
get him out of there. Let's make a change. You're
just too reaction.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
All right.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
I just think he needs to know I'm just I
just watched that's the thing. I just watched the game,
and I watched him hack everybody left, right.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
And center.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
He's been doing for years, and he's slow and just
been doing it slow. He doesn't look like he's in
playing two years ago.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Yes, so what? Okay, day Le Brown won the finals MVP.
Speaker 7 (40:56):
He ain't even there, that's right, Okay, it is the
odd couple, all right, Martin, enjoy your Saturday, thanks for
filling in for christ Bassard, and of course we'll be
back on Monday.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Stick instead got a car
