Henderson that's coming up in about twenty eight minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Also last call to end the show.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
In case you were trying to get in and you
couldn't get in on some of our topics, it's your
chance to be in on last call. I know Chili
Tim in Atlanta was trying to get through.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Shot out to Chile. That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Maybe Chili can do it or somebody else, so that
opportunity will be there for you.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
All right. I know you just said a little while
ago that Lamar will finish third in the MVP voting.
Is that what you said? Yeah? I think so.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
I think if you look at the numbers, Sakwan Barkley
is very clear. Obviously we all know to breaking this
single season record by Earl dick Eric Dickerson.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
So is that is that h three hundred and nine Ryan?
How many yards?
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Three on nine or three ten? Where? Where are we? Uh? Actually?
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Uh he is? I just had it up here moment
I saw it. I just yeah, I think it's it's
it's within reach. Sure, Yeah, I think it's he got
two hundred and sixties. I think it's like three hundred
and he's got two games. I don't even think it's
that Liney actually think it's less. I saw three three nine,
and he's got two hundred and I mean two games
(02:35):
to do it right now, and he's averaging a buck
twenty two a game. So you know it all depends
a game, right you have to see what happens.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Is there a blowout in the last game, and all
you're going to remember he had a chance to get
a record earlier and he came out of the game
and to let the younger guys eat right with the carries.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
He need six Yeah, no, that's two sixty eight, and
he's averaging one hundred and twenty two a game.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
He had one hundred. That's two forty four. So they
have to have a big one and maybe not being
a blowout game or a meaningless they want to arrest
them where you don't want to chance it, like what
would you do?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, I think they're gonna go for it. I think
there's a I don't. I don't think so because of
he already did that.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Well the game one is what I mean. So let's
say let's say game one right game way one.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Let's say he gets a buck fifty and so now
he's what one eighteen away? You absolutely are going for
a game the last game of the season one thousand percent.
They're going for a last game in the season.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
And now if they, for whatever reasons, in the first
quarter and a half to just get up twenty eight nothing.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
You're like, all right, we'll screw it. I mean, we're
already up. But you'll run, you'll run, you'll run the ball.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
But but the worst thing that can happen, though, is
if they're in a blowout game and he gets hurt. True, no,
certain like that is a that's what silarily the worst
thing can happen. But also no, but you always have
to look at it. I've said this before. One of
the biggest mistakes the Jets made when they signed Aaron
(04:10):
Rodgers is that they didn't have a backup quarterback ready
to go for a thirty nine year old quarterback and
it was four snaps and this season was over four
snaps and it snapped, right, you always have to think
about the worst case scenario. And that's all I'm saying,
is up twenty eight to nothing, Is it about getting saquon.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
The record or then winning a Super Bowl? Do you
see what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (04:38):
And if he were to get hurt in a blowout,
because he's trying to get the record, they would kill.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
The big thing that will add to this is the
Jalen hurt situation, because Jalen right now with concussion protocol
and it seems like he'll be fine. But adding to
the idea that well, if we lost Jalen for another
game or two, at least we have Saquon, you wouldn't
have been to be in a scenario where you lost
Jalen and you lost Sakuan, you have zero shots. But
(05:05):
looking at their schedule, the remaining schedule is this Sunday,
they'll be hosting the Cowboys. Would have become competitive, but
you'd like your chances there, especially if Jalen hurts it
is back. And then they ended listen to the irony,
which adds to why I'm absolutely going for this. They
(05:25):
ended hosting the Giants. They're absolutely going for this, hosting
the Giants with a chance for him to break the
record on their head. Somebody that they let go moved
on from thought Daniel Jones was the one.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
You know, petty people like to be petty. Yeah, but
here's the flip side. It's actually bad that it's the Giants.
Why because there's a good chance.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
They're gonna be up twenty eight and if they're so
bad that there's a chance.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
They're gonna do it, they're gonna run. He might not
get it, but they're gonna go for it.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I can you see what I'm saying, Right, you're up
so big, you're up so big that irresponsibility.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
I have those guys in the game. No, they're gonna go.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
If they were up twenty eight nothing at the half,
he's playing the second half.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Absolutely absolutely. He Listen, when you get this close, people
want to do it for you. They want to win.
I get that, But what is the goal? That's the
goal of the team, though.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Is to win a Super Bowl? All right, we're in
the process.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
We got a chance for you to break a record
which will eternally be great for all of us. Right,
your offensive lineman for the rest of your career, you know,
I mean offensive lineman eat because they got to do
stuff with Emmitt Smith and get to be part of
an amazing rushing record the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Bills
running game that got O. J. Simpson the record. At
the time, they still glowed about it. They still talk
(06:42):
about it.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
I don't know who, No.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
I mean I watched the documentary like how huge it
was for them, Like we want to be the line
that did this for you.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I understand that, but I think that there's a bigger
story there.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
And this is really what I would like for us
to transition to.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Is if you're the coach, if you're sorry, I'm right,
and you're leading twenty eight nothing, thirty five to three
in the first set, the Giants are bad.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
You saw what so possible. It's very possible.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
You saw what Lamar did to him through five touchdowns?
Was had he had more touchdowns and incompletions against the Giants.
This is what I'm saying is how bad it could
be already in a game against the Giants. Now, if
you've got a ball game, then he's gonna play, right,
if you got a ball game going, But there's a
good chance.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
If you're the coach, do you take him out in
the second half.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
And not play him with the fear that he could
be injured in a meaningless second half of a game
when you're trying to get to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I think there's a number you have in your head.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Second half, he's anything less than seventy yards away.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
I think we're going for it.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Now forget let's say, because let's say the next game
is upcoming of games Cowboys Cowboys rush the d But
that's different like that, that's not the game that's in question.
What I'm saying is he only gets eighty rs. So
now he still needs a buck eighty is what I'm saying.
That last game. Then it's like, all right, we'll give
you one crack at it that first half. You might
break a couple like he did last yesterday. You know,
(08:14):
but I think there's a number.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
I think they're gonna say, all right, second half, he
only needs seventy seventy five and under. Now if he
needs a buck ten in the second half, I think
they're gonna say, scrap it.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
You got close, just like Adrian Peters. But here's the problem.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
It doesn't matter like if it's seventy or a buck fifty.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
You can get hurt on any play.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
And all I'm saying is the risk worth the reward
is you know, yes, I say it's not.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
I mean a rephrase that. No, I don't want to
get hurt. The point is you this is why we
get records. People go you go for the pass, you
go for the NBA most threes or play minutes or
you know, whatever the record is.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
This is part of what we love and know. But
in this game where people get hurt, they do. And
the thing is, you could get hurt on any It
could be how many times have we seen Kawhi Leonard
just run up the court and then pull.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Something, got off the bed and get hurt.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Okay, you know what I mean, And I'm not saying
in those situations obviously they're just playing the games in
reach in the NFL, where you can get hurt on
any play, is it worth it? Sure, you want him
to get the record, There's no guarantee. But the worst
case scenario is that it gets hurt in a meaningless
(09:33):
second half.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
But the town wants it, the team wants it, and
he wants it, ownership wants it, the line wants it,
the city wants it, the fans want it, Kevin Hart
wants it. You know, anybody from Philly is gonna want this.
And I think again, it's a way to rub it
in the face of a I won't even call my rival,
but a someone in your division who, by the way,
(09:54):
the mayor said, please don't let him go to the
Eagles anywhere but the Eagle. I would really hated if
he goes well, he goes to the Eagles. The Eagles
ball have an amazing season, or one of the contending
teams in the Super Bowl. And not only that, someone
you gave up on who's only twenty seven years old
ran for the rushing record.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Your dad, All right, check check check.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
We're doing it. We're taking that chance. We're going for it.
We're getting the record. We're going to the postseason, winning
the division, and we're going to the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Check check check chick and check you sound crazy? Check
check check check. No, you sound crazy.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Chris Rock had that comedy thing he says, when you
get a woman, you gotta get a step that says, yes,
hey be Kimmy.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yes do we have any money? Yes, Kimmy, Yes, yes, yes, yes,
that is what I'm doing. I'm going for it. Rob,
we gotta live a little come borrow.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
No, the idea and the goal is about the team,
not about.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
The team wants to not on the team. It's different.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
If you get it and you have a game, if
there's a game against the Giants, then you play them.
I'm not saying don't play them. Under any circumstance if
there's a game going on. But if it's a blowout
and he's out there, how many times do we see
Lebron out there for the Lakers in the fourth quarter
padding stats when you know he shouldn't be playing at
(11:11):
forty almost forty years.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
On my right, we're gonna past these stats and we're
gonna get two hundred til Eric Dickerson, it's time for
you to go ahead and move out the way.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Man, don't tell that time. I'm scared.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
He is still in amazing, shaite, He's in great shit amazing.
He is still one of them people you like, Oh, shoot, okay, hey,
what's up brother? Yeah right, Ryan, jump in, Ryan, ry
me you team me? You you know it?
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Ryan?
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Where are you on the whole scenario? It's a blowout,
they're blowing in.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Nothing.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
If if he goes into the last game of the
season with only one hundred yards to go to break
the record against the Giants, even though they're gonna easily
blow them out, No, I think they're going for it,
and I think you should well get get that record.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Absolutely yeah, even if he got a chance of getting hurt. Yep,
going into the season Ryan's Gary, it's scary. Get it
done quick, and you already know, just like and and
and the scenario that I brought up with Aaron Rot
four snaps.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
If you don't even know, if you remember, he.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Just got dragged down and before you know it, his
season was over. Like if you were to do that
in a thirdy're you're up thirty five nothing, says you're
up thirty five nothing up to the first half.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
He's playing the second half.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yep, that means that giants have already checked out there one, two,
three can coting, And that means.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
We are going You're giving a guy to give a
cheap shot on him, right.
Speaker 6 (12:36):
And again if it's if it's at that point where
it's a blow like that, it would just depend on
how close he is. If he only needs another ten
yards or so it's a thirty five nothing, then then
get him in, get those ten yards and.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Set them on out and then Kenneth get defensive line.
I only want to do five more running plays. Get
this thing done all right ready, Snet.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I think you guys aren't thinking about the big picture,
but also part of the big pictures you gotta live sometime.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Rock trying to win a super Bowl and all year
Saquon gets hurt in a meaningful second and a meaningless
second half.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
People will be sick.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
They would they would be eight seven seven ninety nine
On Fox eight seven seven nine nine, six sixty three
sixty nine.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Where are you on this? Come on? What would you do?
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Remember that this this scenario, they're blowing out the Giants
thirty five nothing. Let's we're spelling it out for you.
It's Saquon playing the second half?
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Oh yeah?
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Or are you saying no, you need to get it
during that because we're not gonna put you out there
and risk injury or you're just gonna throw caution to
the win. Worry about the individual guy instead of the team. No,
it's the team. We blocks for him. We called the
plays for him. Do you know the NFL?
Speaker 7 (13:55):
Right?
Speaker 4 (13:55):
We the owner signed him and they let him go.
All right, it's all about us. We we all doing
this together.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, It is the
French in here and on his we we we we

Fox Sports Radio. Happy big Holidays to you all. We
are the odd couple. Rob Parker Kevin Washington on a
Magic City Monday. By the way, if you wanted to
get at us, you could always do so. Rob Parker,
MLB bro kt up live for myself and of course
A seven seven ninety nine on Fox We're coming to
you live from the Tirack dot com studios. Having a
conversation about Sakwan Barkley and Rob painted a scenario where
(15:07):
if they're facing the Giants' former team when he's being
the Eagles, and they happen to be in the second
half and they're up thirty five to and the.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Only reason I say that is we saw the Baltimore
Ravens out and John who knows what giants mentally already
be in Cancun, Honolulu all the plays they'll be gone mentally,
So is it possible?
Speaker 4 (15:26):
And he's do you go for the rushing record or
do you say nah, too risky, don't want to lose
you for the postseason?
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine one Fox. So we got
Mike and Montana. You're on the odd couple of five
sports Radio. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas.
Speaker 8 (15:42):
It's Merry Christmas, gentlemen. You know, first and foremost, every
time I called, I focus on talking to Rob and
hollering at him about his bad Lions takes Calvin. Yes,
Merry Christmas, man, Merry Christmas.
Speaker 9 (15:53):
Christmas.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Family.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Hey, it's still early, you know, it's only been a
few months. You'll come around. Thank you. I appreciate. How
have we been together on this show. I don't even
know how long.
Speaker 8 (16:02):
Hold on now for mister Rob Parker BA humbug, no way,
no how Rob. I'm sitting here, I'm listening to you
talk about sakuon. Yes, I'm listening. During the commercials they
were playing you talking about down in Dallas, the rush linebacker,
(16:24):
what's his name?
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Taking it?
Speaker 5 (16:28):
Taking it?
Speaker 9 (16:29):
Taking a cost break for the Cowboys.
Speaker 8 (16:32):
You talked about Patrick Mahomes. Why when he signed a
contract for four hundred and fifty million didn't he squeeze
them dry? He should have gotten every dime, right, And
then you talk about Dan Campbell and you hate his
fourth downs.
Speaker 9 (16:44):
Rob your risk averse.
Speaker 8 (16:47):
You're afraid of risking too much on individual awards, and
you're saying, well, anyone could be heard on any play. Well,
Aiden Hutchinson went down and in nothing game sacking Dak Prescott.
Wouldn't he want to be playing right now? Would he
give up that sack? Would he give up that sack
playing now?
Speaker 10 (17:04):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:04):
No, no, no, Mike, I get that, But I'm saying,
once you're in a blowout situation, it happens all the time, Mike,
when players come out, they say, Okay, come out the
game because we don't want you to get hurt.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
That's all I'm saying. I'm not is it, But yes,
there's a risk in.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Any down he could get hurt in the Dallas game
in the first quarter that I wouldn't be mad at
that he goes that's what he should be doing.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
He's playing.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
But if you're up thirty five nothing, we're going on
the record, and you're going for the record in the
fourth quarter. Yeah, and he breaks and he breaks his
leg and then it just happened and it was a
horrible player.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
But Daggan, we're going for it because that is just
another rock rock.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
Isn't the point of this sport to help your teammate
when you're sitting there and you're you're a blocking tight
end and you've been fighting this whole game, in this
whole season, and your man's about to get a record
and you're part of that.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
No, it's about winning a championship, Mike.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
It's about winning amazing opportunity presents about what you appreciate
that Christmas?
Speaker 3 (18:04):
What else we got?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Mike and Charleston another mic? It's a bunch of Mike.
You're Mik and Mike couple. Fox Sports Radio. What's up, buddy?
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Hey, what's going on y'all? How you doing?
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Is Mike and alias now just saying Mike. No, Mike
is a popular name. It is. What's up? Mike?
Speaker 10 (18:19):
It is?
Speaker 8 (18:19):
It is?
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Well, I got maybe an unpopular opinion to go with it,
but I gotta agree with.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
Rob here do you do hang up on him?
Speaker 3 (18:26):
No, don't go ahead, Mike, let's hear you, my man.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
There's not a lot of point in going for it
when the super Bowl is in reach. And it's not
just because I put a futures bet on him for
one hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
I like that, And that's coming from a Giants fan anyways.
There's not a lot of point in going for that
when you could turn an ankle like I've seen Sakwon
do many times being a Giants fan. Also with the
fact that Dickerson did it in sixteen games, Yes, this
point is it even really the right?
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Thank you?
Speaker 4 (18:56):
Now, that's now that is a conversation you have. There
you go, my Eric Dickerson. You know, Eric Dickerson gonna
let us know, like, baby, I'm gonna take you some Baby,
I did that in only about fifteen games.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
You're not sixteen seventeen. There's no doubt about it that, Eric, mate.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Your point is well taken to about the idea that
you know, like he could get hurt and that's all
I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
But I'm I'm I could have got hurt against anything.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Y'all know, we're going forward We're gonna have an amazing
another another mic, Mike, Mike, Mike, three mics in a row,
bettle just beatle juice Mike and Augusta. You're on the
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Mike?
Speaker 9 (19:37):
Oh yeah?
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Is this Chris Brussard? Who is this? How you want
to drop to your knees?
Speaker 7 (19:45):
Oh? Man? So I gotta agree with Robin Mike from
Charlotte took my point.
Speaker 9 (19:49):
Eric Dickerson did it in sixteen games.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
So how big is it?
Speaker 7 (19:52):
Would the record really be? And another thing with with
you know the way Philly fans are if he took.
Speaker 9 (19:58):
That risk and he got hurt, Oh, Nick Sirianni would
be fun.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
It would be fun.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Run out of Philadelphia, run out To be fair, I
do think they would have a like the owner GM
coach running back. They would all have a conversation like, hey,
either we are not going at it at certain point
or we are wholeheartedly going.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
They would know everybody would be in a line. Mike.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
You see my point is in a blowout, you know
what I mean, it would.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Have to be a blead.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
You'll missing the the irony, the romantic, like we get
to do this against the Giants. We get to rub
it in their faces.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Philly.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
It's in Philly. It ain't like it's in New York.
They got TV, they paying cable bills. They get to
watch this game. Cut their core.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
They get to watch this game. Thanks many feel with
the wrath of Saquan, who they said was naw will pass.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Robert and Lancaster, you're in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
What's up, man?
Speaker 11 (20:50):
Hey guys, go away, but you too. I'm gonna break it.
I'm breaking partners, high Rob, but i gotta go with you.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Man, Bo, everything's a scrooge. I'm trying to get a
record for the holidays. Go ahead, Robert, break it down.
Speaker 7 (21:08):
Hey, you know what. Look, you know what.
Speaker 11 (21:10):
First off, there is no Iron Team.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
We gotta get that, right, we get big record together.
Speaker 11 (21:16):
No, there's no Iron Team. Second of all, think about this.
Think about when Kobe has scored eighty one points.
Speaker 9 (21:23):
All of us.
Speaker 11 (21:23):
Wanted for Kobe to go more and more and more,
but unfortunately they pulled him out, you know, for them
to fight another day living.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
And I'm still.
Speaker 11 (21:34):
You know me too, I'm very mad. But the point is,
you know what, these guys are chasing a championship, they're
going for the Super Bowl. Why chance your best running
back to get hurt? And you know what, the truth
of the matter is this, he could get hurt at
the beginning of the game, you know, so yeah, you
(21:55):
know what I mean, if he could go for.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
You you came back to my side.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
No, no, let's go get this for this record.
Speaker 11 (22:05):
Yes, he could get hurt at the beginning of the game,
but you know what, and may may not happen, but
White take that chance.
Speaker 7 (22:13):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Well, ah, let's squeeze one more and can we do
it real quick? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (22:18):
One more that, Tyrone and four worth. You're in the
odd coptime, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 12 (22:23):
Okay, I'm with Kelvin.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Thank you.
Speaker 12 (22:26):
And if he's not gonna go after the record, why
don't we just put him in bubble wrap right now?
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (22:32):
No, that that's not Wait a minute ahead, Tyrone. Let
me just say this first. Let's not I'm not saying
that he shouldn't go for the record. I'm saying you're
up thirty five nothing against the hapless Giants.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Do you play him in the second half.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
There's a big difference between not playing him and playing
him in a blowout come on, man, do like like,
let's let's keep it real.
Speaker 12 (22:56):
I say the choice of Sayques, if he wants to
go for the record, let him go for the record.
I think they would help the city of Philadelphia. It
would help that offensive line, get them all And.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
If he get hurt, if he gets hurt, you're cool
with it. Like, Okay, we're not going to the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
We're cool.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Yep, Yes, it does, Yes, it does.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
No if you lose. Okay, So he was up for
m v P. Now you don't need him. Come on,
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
You don't want to lose him, but I'm willing to
take that risk at that point just because we have something.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I'm not taking it. You don't need to take. All right.
We appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Sorry, I appreciate you. Thanks right, that's all right. Even
if you're wrong, we still love you. Tyrone, Mary Tyrone
stands strong. You were right, brother, Thanks you. Hey, you
understand sometimes you gotta have a little risks. Kelvin's trying something,
you know. I mean, you could just keep courting the listeners.
I just want you to know I got a six
and a half year advantage on you do.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
But just like Saquon I'm about to come take that record.
Dagg it.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Hey Rob, how did that work out for Golden State
when they went for the seventy three wins? That's right,
Remember that went for the record and guess what losts
That's because they went up against the.

He does a very popular segment for us that we
call Black in the Day Welcome to the ocouple the
day when I was young.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
What's up Martin?
Speaker 7 (24:51):
What's up? Calvin? Good to meet you.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
Yes, sir, yes, sir.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
Your favorite town in Connecticut right now?
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Where you in Bristol?
Speaker 7 (25:00):
No, I'm in Danbury.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Come dan Barry, Okay, dan Bury.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
Even the people that work in Bristol don't like Bristol,
well except for wings Over Bristol.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
They got great wings in that place. Man all they
got his Apple business Bristol. Yes, wings Over.
Speaker 7 (25:16):
Oh really, I haven't been. When I got my exit papers,
I made it a point ever to go back, So I
don't know what's going on there.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
You got yours too, You, I got mine too. Yeah,
we all know. We all have that in common. It's
that's right. All right.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Let's talk about Ricky Henderson, just a shaker to everybody.
Obviously sixty five years old. Uh, just mark your thoughts
first and tell us some stuff that maybe people who
are younger who really don't know about Ricky Henderson some
of our listeners just about about his career and what
he meant to baseball.
Speaker 7 (25:47):
Dude, he was the most disruptive force in the history
of Major League baseball. In my opinion, I never saw
anybody get on the base pass and just dramatically change
the compactionion to the game just standing on first base.
And when you and I met in nineteen ninety three,
right we were covering the World Series, Ricky Henderson was
(26:08):
leading off for the Toronto Blue Jays. Even at that
time later in his career, Bobby Cox kind of got
played by him in that World Series on a couple
of occasions, and the Braves really never had a chance
in that series because Henderson was doing something that was
(26:29):
always sort of getting up under the skin and taking
them out of their comfort zone. And I think that's
the thing that defined Ricky Henderson for me, rob was
that he was an athletic player that could change the
dynamics of a game in so many ways. You know,
we looked at him as a base stealer. Buddy was,
(26:49):
you know, one of those guys that hit overhome one
hundred home runs for his career while stealing like nine
hundred bases. I mean, Ricky Henderson was incredible. I mean
you can't really compare him to anybody else these days,
because they just don't make the leadoff guy like they
made Ricky Henderson anymore.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Well, you levy to where I was gonna go right now?
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Is we see this in a lot of sports where
things just change an let us get in. People deem
certain things no longer necessary. This year the league tried
to get folks to steal some more. They put that
as rob calls of the pizza sized boxes out there.
But let me just what would he do in today's game?
How good would he be in today's game where where
(27:29):
by the way, people act like you can't even give
them You could literally the line could shift and they
still couldn't hit it over. It's just a different game
now guys aren't as skilled at least it seems.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
What would he be like today?
Speaker 7 (27:41):
Well, he had one hundred and thirty steals, I want
to say in nineteen eighty seven or perspective. This is
with smaller bases, and you know, not the liberal way
that baseball was allowing or is allowing now speed to
(28:01):
come back into the game, and he wreck shot. So
when I look at a guy playing by the other
rules who can steal one hundred and thirty bases in
the season, I mean it's comprehend that he had nine
hue to thirty eight steels for his career. But if
he could do what he did in that era of baseball,
I think I don't think it's overstatement to think that
(28:23):
he could have stolen two hundred bases in a season
with the way that the game is played like that,
and he probably would have been up over one hundred
steals when he was like forty and still doing work
like he was with the Blue Jays and World Series
that we were talking about. I mean, Ricky was one
of those great I mean he was to the base pass,
(28:43):
but I don't know name your great power hitter is
to the home run. I mean, Ricky was a walking
RBI who could lead off and then drive himself in
and really didn't need a bat. I mean that's crazy.
I mean we've seen great leadoff guys, but there was hit.
(29:04):
There was Ricky Henderson to me and it was everybody else.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
And here's the other thing that people don't know how
great of a player he was. Take away the stolen bases.
He would have made the Hall of Fame without one
stolen base. You know why he had over three thousand hits.
That's a magic number. Like people don't understand this is
not just about some punching Judy ass right, a fast guy.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
This guy had over three thousand hits.
Speaker 7 (29:33):
And we're gonna and let's talk about his defense too, Rob.
I mean, we're not talking about somebody that was a
liability in the outfield. I mean you could look at
several big plays that Ricky Henderson made in critical situations
for both the A's on the way to a World
Series and then with Toronto. I mean he was a
clutch dude. And oh yeah, speaking of one of those
(29:55):
undiscovered fun facts. In addition to being the all time
they still in the history of the eighties, there was
a time for about four or five years where he
was an all time leading Bay stealer.
Speaker 9 (30:07):
For the New York Yankees.
Speaker 7 (30:09):
So when you were able to put yourself on a
ledger like he is, where numbers, as they say, never lie,
I mean the numbers add up, and then you can
equate that when intangibles, I mean the things he was
able to do, and you listen to the guys that
played against him, great pictures. You know, when I was
researching the story, guys like Steve Rodgers, nobody wanted Ricky
(30:34):
Henderson on base because it threw every picture out of
the comfort zone, and those little intangibles in a game
that's driven by so many intangibles are the difference that
make all stars into superstars. And I think that Willie,
I'm sorry, Ricky Henderson was the star of stars when
(30:55):
it comes to leadoff guys. And you know, we're talking
about an era that had guys like you know, Vince
Coleman and Tim Rains getting it in yep. And when
you think about the historic level that they stole basis
at for he too have obliterated it. I got said,
when it comes to the leadoff man in baseball in
my lifetime's uh, Ricky Henderson, and there's everybody else.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Well said Mark and the other thing real quick, I'm
just saying this, uh. And then just the Ricky, his persona,
speaking in third person, always using his name when talking
about himself. I think that also added to to his flavor.
He was part of pop culture, right, you know what
I mean? And that's who rare because.
Speaker 7 (31:41):
You know, I think what it was. I think Ricky
was introspective about himself and he had a delivery that
kept people off guard. But if you really got a
chance to talk to on one on one, he was
he was a baseball savonn and let's not just diminish
him to just like his athletics and all that, which
(32:01):
were big parts of the keys to the success, but
one of the smartest guys in terms of baseball act
in that you will ever talk to man, and you know,
baseball still is a thinking man's game, and boy he
was hop he was top of the food chain. My
condolences to his family. I'm that East Coast kid who
grew up watching Reggie Jackson as an as fan and
(32:24):
then next to Reggie Jackson to me as Ricky Henderson
as far as the age of concerned.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
There you have it well, said Mark Gray. We appreciate
you so much, of course. Uh and everything that you
just highlighted about him just one of those gone too soon,
I mean only sixty five.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Yeah, And check out Mark's video story Black in the
Day on mlbbro dot com about Ricky's career.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
If you want to tweet it out, make sure you
tweet out that part absolutely. All right, appreciate my good meeting.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
You, man, happy always pleasure man. Yeah, yeah, Christmas, all right,
out of trouble, come on, literally, they know that.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
They put that in my contract. That's a full time Johns.
I said, Hey, and if you don't mind, could you

he made.
Speaker 11 (34:49):
Imagine if he would have said, oh, we're not going
to win a super Bowl, let me just quit rushing game,
ma Reno, all right, we're not gonna win a.
Speaker 7 (34:55):
Super Bowl, let me quit passing.
Speaker 11 (34:57):
Legacies are made by records.
Speaker 12 (34:59):
Legacies made a record?
Speaker 1 (35:00):
No, no, no, what record did Tom Brady set that
you think about? Let me ask you that.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
I thought. No, I'm asking you what record do you
think about with Tom Brady.
Speaker 7 (35:13):
Super bowls?
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Well, it's about winning the super Bowl. You know that.
Speaker 9 (35:17):
I understand that.
Speaker 7 (35:20):
How many other records does he hold.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
But you don't know any of them.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Gary, name me a Tom Brady record other than how
many super Bowls he played?
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Give me a record.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
My point is, in a blowout of a second half,
not should he not go for it?
Speaker 4 (35:37):
In a blowout, should he play? That's all Gary. Gary's
point is, mind that you got a chance to go
for something great.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
I understand what you're saying.
Speaker 7 (35:46):
Okay, say he doesn't play and win a super.
Speaker 9 (35:49):
Bowl, so's he accomplished? Absolutely not?
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (35:53):
And if he plays and breaks his leg, then what okay?
All right, Gary, I'm with you, Gary. We're going for Gary. Hey,
this is a holiday spirit man. Wow, and Guardian you're

that's gotta be racist.
Speaker 9 (36:37):
You better go buy a lotto tickets all right, because
you're absolutely right. Rob and Kelvin.
Speaker 7 (36:45):
I hate to tell you, man, but you have that's
the only right.
Speaker 9 (36:49):
Answer, you know what I mean. You can't chase it, man, you.
Speaker 7 (36:53):
Can't chase it. You gotta chase the chip.
Speaker 9 (36:56):
Sarianni being on the hot yes, he cannot do that. Man.
I'm kind of on the fence with it anyway, because
Eric Dickerson, Man, you know he did it in sixteen.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Y Yeah, yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
I have to put some asterisk we start changing some
of these records.
Speaker 9 (37:13):

Speaker 9 (37:26):
Man?
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Yo?
Speaker 10 (37:27):
You on everything? Hey, real quick? On Ricky Henderson. I
think when Ricky.
Speaker 7 (37:32):
Came up to the Oakland A's.
Speaker 10 (37:33):
I was around seventeen years old, and you know, Rob
and Kelvin you might notice as well, but back in
those early seventies, man, you had just as many brothers
playing baby.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Yeah. I just told Rob that, Just told Rob that.
Speaker 10 (37:46):
And so when when Ricky came up, we had already
been enamored with you know, Aaron and Mays and and
even okay, we mentioned lou Brock now Luke Rock bad Man.
He retired on his last stolen base, which was the record.
He retired at thirty nine. Do you know Ricky broke
lou Brock's record at thirty two in his prime, Ricky
(38:07):
played another.
Speaker 7 (38:08):
Twelve years yep, and when sold four.
Speaker 10 (38:11):
Hundred and sixty seven more basses on top of when
we broke.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
Yes, right, thank you for the call, man. Yeah, Merry
Christmas to you all.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
That's right. That's for Rocky with the odd couple of
