(00:57):
the Express Prospro the Week. The Pro the Week goes
to Indiana Fever Guard Rob. She's always in the news,
Caitlyn Clark. She hit a w NBA rookie record seven
to three pointers and scored thirty points Friday night. So again,
congratulations to Caitlyn Clark for being our Express pros Pro
of the weekend. Rob we're gonna stay there and talk
(01:18):
about Caitlyn Clark big news that she was left off
of Team USA.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Here's what she said about it.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Honestly, no disappointment, Like I think it just gives you
something to work for about to dream, you know, hopefully
can be there. And I think it's just a little
more motivation. You remember that and you know hopefully in
four years or four years come to knock around, you
know how.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I can be there now?
Speaker 4 (01:42):
She did also, according to her coach, text her coach
that they meaning Team USA, woke up a monster.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
So she's playing on going on the tear. But Rob,
what are your thought? Do you think she should have
been on the team.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
No, I really don't. I think it's a big to
do about nothing, and I don't. This has never worked
this way, Chris. When you talk about the Olympic team,
we saw Shack being left off for Christian Latner and
all kinds of There are a lot of people like
who didn't make it to that, So this is not
isolated to her.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
I don't believe in this whole thing. I got into
it with. I remember.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Ellie da La Cruz came up Chris for the Reds
and he was lighting it up his first six weeks,
eight weeks in the Big Leg or whatever it was, right,
he was, Oh my god, he's a five to two player. Oh, ba, ba,
this is what's wrong with baseball because they don't have
this guy. He should be at the All Star Game.
What are they doing? They're missing the guy wind up
batting two thirty five and having a terrible second half
and striking out almost every time up.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
And my point is it has to be earned, that's all.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And the WNBA, Chris, they're trying to sell tickets, and
they're trying to They'll do whatever they need to do
in an exhibit or whatever. But these spots are supposed
to be coveted. They're supposed to be golden tickets. You're
supposed to work hard for a chance to represent your country.
(03:10):
This is not about trying to promote the WNBA or
promote anybody. Other people have worked their butts off and opportunities,
you know, trying to make this team.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
And I don't have a problem with it.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
I don't And a Kaitlin hats off to her, Chris,
that's a great response.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
She didn't power to say, oh, well, you know, what
are they doing?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I'm being disrespect you know what I mean, Right, But
she she just said, it's a dream of mine.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
It's a goal.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Maybe four years from now, I can make it. It's
her response was very, very mature. I loved it because
that's the way you look at it. Everybody can't make
the team. Would it have been great, Chris if she
was really one of the top twelve or fifteen players,
I don't know how many to take fifteen.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Or whatever, twelve twelve.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Look, it's even a small enough if she was one
of those twelve, they would have taken her.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I mean, there's no.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Doubt in my mind that if she was really at
that level and had put into work and they really believe,
there's no there's not twelve other women, you know who
should be on this team other than her, she would
be on that team.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I think we can't just hand people's stuff. I don't
think that she got snubbed.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
I don't think snubbed is the right word, because you
can justify, like she's probably not one of the best
twelve American players in the world right now. You can
certainly argue that now Diana Tarassi is forty one, forty
two years old, she's not having a great year. Her
numbers are somewhat pretty similar to Caitlyn Clark's. Clarks are
(04:51):
probably a little bit better, so you you know, and
but Tarassi is a legend. She's probably not one of
the best twelve players either, but she he is a legend,
so it's fine for her to be on the team.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
So I don't think snubbed is the.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Right word, although I could argue rob not that she's
the best top twelve player.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
But I do think this bear.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Is saying Kaylen Clark is not having the bad year
that some people think she is.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
All right, she she's turned the ball over a lot.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
She's turned the ball over a lot, But I mean,
I'm not saying turnovers are irrelevant.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
James Harden turned the ball over lot.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
The leading when he retired Magic and Isaiah they were
like the top two turnover guys in the league history.
I mean, when you have the ball like that, you're
gonna make some turnovers.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
And now she's gotta cut them down. Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Five and a half is too many, but she's probably
even in her heydays, she's gonna probably average three and
a half to four turnovers a game, but she's fourth
in the league and assist with six and a half.
She's averaging sixteen almost seventeen points a.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Game and rob over five rebound.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
She is on pace in a rookie year to become
only the fifth player in WNBA history to average fifteen
five and five.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
In the season. Not the fifth rookie, the fifth player.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
And her shooting percentage, we look at it thirty seven percent, and.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
We think it's terrible.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Check the check the records, not record books, but check
the stats of the guards in the WNBA. That's about
what they shoot. They a lot of them shoot thirty
seven percent. I think that's exactly what Tarazi shooting, you know,
So that's not She's having a better year than a
lot of people are giving her credit for. Obviously, your
team isn't winning. But all that said, Rob, where I
(06:48):
disagree with you is that even though yes, you can,
the team is fine on who you're taking off all that,
this was a mistake not to put her on.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Though, because they I do think it was.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
An opportunity to grow women's professional basketball in America. We're
going to win the Gold. I don't care who the
twelfth person is. We won seven straight. We won fifty
five straight games. Are women, It's not like the men.
(07:21):
The women dominate Roight. They beat Japan by fifteen in
the gold medal game. The last time we're gonna win,
we're gonna be routing teams. So you could have easily
put Caitlyn Clargo, Rob and ninety two the original dream team.
Now they had to have one college player. They picked
Christen Laightner over Shack. There was now Christian Layner was
(07:46):
a phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
College player his whole tiege.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
He was a phenomenal college player. But you obviously could
argue it should have been shocked. But I and you
don't always just pick the sheer twelve best players. You
try to build kind of a team. How are people
gonna fit together? And I just think Rob, Caitlyn Clark
is a draw. Rightly or wrongly, agree with it or not,
(08:15):
she is a draw. And now I think our women
are gonna run through the competition, win the gold medal,
and nobody's gonna pay much attention. But if they had
had Caitlyn Clark on that team, I think people would
have been paying a lot more attention. It would have
just grown the game that much more and so I
(08:38):
just think Rob from a pr standpoint, that it was
a mistake not to have her on the team.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
That's my thought. Yeah, I hear you.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I just I think you should keep it as something special.
You should make it so that people have to earn it.
And there there, you just said it. They're gonna win regardless.
I got that. So she's not going to change, especially
if you put on a team and then she's not
even really playing that much.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
What would be the purpose of that.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Well, there was a report, you know, Nadine Brennan, of course,
who said who reported that part of the reason that
they or she said there was a feeling among the
quote unquote decision makers that wasn't I don't think her
exact term that what how would the millions of this
was this is direct millions of fans of Caitlyn Clark.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
How would they react to her not playing.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Now, not on the team, and won't they They would
have been routing these teams, so I think she would
have got good minutes. You know, she would have probably
played a decent amount because I think they'd be blowing
these teams out. But I also don't think that should
be I mean, if you're if you're looking at that
negative pr if you will then look at the positive
(09:57):
pr of her being on a team, Rob, I know
no doubt that. You know, there have been race and
gender and all types of things have been thrown into
this mix.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
This whole Caitlyn Clark thing is.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
You know, people are saying all types of stuff and
dividing into camps and stuff.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
But I don't doubt that.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Like if she was put on the team, and you
make a good point, like I'm not saying she's I
don't think she's probably at this point one of the
twelve best players in the country. You know, I don't
think that's the case. But I think had they there
may have been some thinking. I'm not gonna say they
definitely feel this way, but has she been put on
the team, Rob, There already are accusations that she's benefiting
(10:48):
from white privilege. People like only like her because she's
white and she's getting benefited. You know, they don't give
to the black female players. And we you and I
have talked about. I called out the Cargo Tribune. I
thought that editorial they wrote where they called Kennedy Carter's
hit that was racist period.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
The end as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, I think Jill Biden inviting Iowa to the White House,
even though they lost in the championship, was racist, rooted
in racism, rooted in some white privilege and all that.
So I think there have been those. But I wonder
if the if they felt, well, if we put her
(11:32):
on the team, are we all, is it gonna be
more accusations of white privilege, of racism and things like that.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
And there may have been, so they may have looked.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
At that PR wives Rob and said, we don't we
getting enough of that right now?
Speaker 3 (11:49):
We don't want to, you know, add fuel to the fire.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
So I just think, though, Rob, I think all of
this publicity, all of this talk is good for the league,
and I think having.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Her on the team would have been good from a
PR standboy.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
And she's not playing so horribly, not playing horribly at all.
She's playing well enough that yeah, they would be pushedback,
but you also could be like, hold up, she's about
to become one of five players in WNBA history to
do this. She's a runaway rookie of the Year. It
ain't even close, all right. She's averaging seventeen and six
and a half like, you know what I mean, you
(12:27):
could put her numbers against up against some of the
better players in the league and see that they're not
that far behind or actually close. So I just think
it was a missed opportunity.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, I mean there'll be people who feel that way.
I just don't. I think you got to keep some integrity.
You just can't do the popular move, Chris and put
people in just because you think it's gonna be good.
I remember when I was against Puigue, Chris, the same thing.
You remember when he came up with the Dodgers. Yeah,
Josh was the new hotness. Yeah, everybody wanted him in
(13:02):
the All Star Game. Their people are played and put
in their time, have better numbers, more at bats, Chris,
you know what I mean? Who deserved to be on
the All Star team before Yachtsio Puig despite the excitement
that he had, And eventually I think he did make it.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
But it shouldn't be a gift because he's the hot
new hotness. That's all I'm saying. Rob.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Here's a little I mean, as you know, her TV
numbers are huge. Their team is averaging over fifteen thousand
fans a game that's home and road Home.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
They're averaging about seventeen thousand.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
The rest of the WNBA is somewhere around seven eight thousand.
This year, Clark and the Fever have already had the
most viewed WNBA games ever for ESPN two, ESPN plus,
Disney Plus, ABC, ESPN, CBS.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
And NBA TV. People are tuning in.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
I just think they should have tried to capitalize on this,
all right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Should the Team USA Women have put Caitlin Clark on
the team?
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Yay or nay? Your thoughts? Next eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox.

from the tire Rack.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Dot Com Studios eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
You're Turned the way In on Caitlin Clark should she
have been put on Team USA.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Yay or nay? Your thoughts, I didn't push the button?
What happened there? Will in Mississippi date radio woman, I'm
sorry you so you can't make it. You can't so
you're coming right, That's what it's ound like. I'm just saying, Okay,
(16:17):
I'm sorry about that.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Was up?
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Will?
Speaker 9 (16:19):
What's so how y'all doing?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Man? You know what I was saying on that phone.
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (16:25):
Look, God, man, I know, I just want to chime
in on the topic. Man, and I just been I
just can't understand. Well, first of all, to answer the question, absolutely,
she she should have been placed on the women's Olympic team.
But what I can't understand and we hate to try to,
like man, explain it because it seems like I think
(16:46):
that's kind of what the issue is. Like a lot
of people that it's like associated with, like you know,
the NBA and sports, and just kind of been trying
to tell the women like, hey, maybe you should do
it like this, like this may end up you know,
a better situation with you. But it's like the women
are so pressed to like tell us like we've done
this before. We could do this without her week like
we got but y'all haven't, like nobody has watched w
(17:06):
NBA prior to like maybe last year, like but mainly
this year. So it's like y'all constantly want to tell
us like if this has been going on, but it
hasn't been, and now you have somebody coming to the
lead everybody want to talk about and this is no deeplict.
I love her the death great player, but Asia Wilson,
Like last year, I did not know who Asia Wilson was,
(17:28):
but like when when the when the when a shoot
deal came up, Everybody's like, well, she should have been
one to get the shoot deal, Like why Like y'all
weren't talking about her last year, so like what was
the point? Why would they do that? He's like, but
they just so pretty.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Look and if there's resentment, jealousy, if they you know,
I'm not in these people's minds, but I get it.
It's understandable, Rob if you and I were killing it
on the radio or whatever, you know what I mean,
We're just doing our thing and then some some you know,
young hot shot comes and just blowing us out of
(18:03):
the water.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
And I mean, that's human nature.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
You're like, man, I've been doing this and we've been
doing a great job for years, and now they getting
on like where we've seen it in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
We've talked about it. They Iceeor.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Why do you think they allegedly because Isaiah Thomas is
our boy and he denies it. But why Rob, would
they allegedly ice Jordan out of the game. It's only
one reason this dude's getting all this praise and he
just got here right, So it's just I mean, nope.
And and when people say that about the w NBA, Rob,
(18:40):
I don't. I don't think they're like, I mean, we
saying it about men too. It's just human nature. I
kind of get it because she is getting all of
the love and everybody's like, why why she? What's she
doing that to Rozi didn't do that, Candas Parker didn't
do they're even better than her.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Why she?
Speaker 4 (18:58):
But she just is And I think they should try
to capitalize on it as a league.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Darren in Maryland, you're in the eye couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up? Darren?
Speaker 9 (19:09):
What's up? Rob?
Speaker 10 (19:10):
And Chris uh? Communists? I think they I think they
got it right for this reason. First of all, if
you're the little girl that's been dreaming about being on
the Olympics all your life and say they put Kaitlan
on and they take your spot, how's that gonna make
you feel. You've been working hard all your career. Hope
you get an opportunity to play for your country, but
(19:31):
they want to use Kaitlin as a marketing tool, so
they take your spot away. That's my first point. Second
point is if I'm in Kitence, if I'm in Kitn's camp,
I'm kind of glad they left her off for this reason.
She already had a target on her back since she
got in the WNBA for unfortunately human nature. People jealous
(19:52):
for getting all the shine and they saying she's saving
the WNBA. So now she gets to go into.
Speaker 9 (19:57):
The shadows for a little while.
Speaker 10 (19:59):
She not on a pull up front, so she come
back also with the other players may show her little
respect because she wasn't handed something she didn't earn, So
you know it might be that's.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
A That second point is fair. That's a that's a
fair point. It is, Chris. I like that fair.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Thanks Thanks Darren, appreciated. Dre Andre in Massachusetts. You're in
the couple of Fox Sports.
Speaker 11 (20:21):
Radio, what's going on?
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Thanks for taking the call. Listen, w NBA didn't put
their best foot forward in this circumstance terms of putting.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Can remember, this is not the w n B A.
They don't run this.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
Okay, Team USA Basketball, Okay.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I just want to make sure that is what the
w NBA. Chris has nothing to do with. Right.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
That's a good point, Rob, And my rejoiner for that
is if Jerry Colamslow was running things, this would have
never happened in a million years, because the bottom line
is putting Kitlin Cark Clark as that twelfth player, whever
the fringe player is, that's number twelve and four years,
you can go ahead and win a gold medal and
we can capitalize on this premenious amount of momentum through Kitlyn.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
She's not playing. If she's not playing, really she'd.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
Have been.
Speaker 9 (21:07):
Out again, Rob.
Speaker 6 (21:09):
And that's the thing with this particular situation. This is
identical to what happened with Michael Jordan. Caitlyn Clark is
not a Michael Jordan level talent, but this is coming
from the veteran players and sour Grape, and it's absolutely
backwards and wrong because it has nothing having her on
the team. Okay, if it's close, just put Clayton Clark
on the team for now and reap the benefits all
(21:30):
these old times.
Speaker 12 (21:32):
Where is the freaking Ray Allen?
Speaker 6 (21:33):
By the way, in this situation, Ray Allen meaning like
an older mentor to this up and coming player. I
use Ray Allen because he mentored Rajon Rondo when the
Celtics won a championship. These older players try to mentor
Kaitlyn Clark and get on board with this instead of
all this pushback in terms of her getting more attention.
It's petty, it's foolish, it's juvenile, and it's setting the
game overall. Back Gerry Klangslow would have none of this.
(21:54):
He rebuilt USA basketball being progressive. This is regressive strategy.
Thanks taking the call.

Our next guest Fox Sports Radio NBA Insider. Check him
out on the This League Uncut podcast, where he's the
co host with Chris Haynes. Our Man Mark Stein Mark,
What Up?
Speaker 12 (22:22):
Matt Mark old couple.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
What's up, buddy.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
We are good man, we are all let yes we
are some older than others, Rob But anyway, News of
the day. You surprised that Dan Hurley turned down that
offer from the Lakers, and I'm Mark, I'm surprised it
was so low obviously relatively speaking, six years seventy. I
(22:48):
thought they were gonna hit him with a much bigger
contract offer that he couldn't refuse.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
So what are your thoughts on this whole thing?
Speaker 12 (22:54):
Yeah, I would agree with you on the number. I
would have thought it would have been higher, but I
don't know that the money really would have made the difference.
I can't say that I'm surprised by the outcome, although really,
you know, the Lakers, I'm sure they wanted to you know,
they didn't want this out if there was any chance
(23:14):
they weren't going to get him, because obviously this is
a huge setback for the Lakers. I'm just massive to
go after this.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Guy right in such a public way.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
I'm with you on that that's not how you want
this because whoever you hire now is the second choice, and.
Speaker 12 (23:30):
It was already gonna be a really tough job for
whoever it was, so this is an undeniable hit for
the Lakers that they couldn't get this thing to the
finish line. But look, I think I mentioned it the
last time we talked about this three of us. I
am not a college basketball expert. I have not covered
Dan Hurley closely, but you know, if you I mean
(23:52):
everyone who does, everyone who does operate in that world
has been saying since this story emerged that his empire
it's going to be really tough to leave. And it proves.
That's how it proves. And look, he's you know, he'll
get his NBA chance someday if he wants, so, you
know he can be more So, the Lakers are not
(24:13):
in a position to be selective, and I thought that
this was a smart course for them because Hurley is
the best available coach, so to try to go get
him did make sense from that perspective. But go after
him and come up empty, it is a dagger.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Speaking of empty, can we talk about Kyrie Irving and
the NBA Finals?
Speaker 3 (24:35):
I just got one question for you, Mark, what hopa, Lucy?
What's going on?
Speaker 12 (24:40):
I think we got to give Boston a fair amount
of credit here. I'm in the Celtics look, I've been
at the front of the line saying that, you know,
I still had reservations about this team, and honestly, even
though they went twelve and two in the first three,
that's right, Me and.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
You went at it the other day over this, Yes
we did, given given the level of competition in the
East and two.
Speaker 12 (25:04):
Bad home losses and multiple escapes against the Pacers did
not instill greater confidence with me. But hey, they have
two games in. They have shut me and many others up.
They have played as I mean, the depths. We talked
about it all year long. They have the best top
(25:25):
six in the league. And to me, it's just, you know,
for all to talk about Dan Hurley and what would
happen if the hottest coach in the college game jumped
to the pros. I'm sitting here in the two games
in the final saying Brad Stevens went from college coach
to NBA coach to just a lights out NBA executive.
(25:47):
I mean, his run is taking over for Danny Ainge,
fading for Derek White, fighting for Porzingis, giving up Marcus
Smart in the Porzingis trade, which was a very unpopular
move in Boston at the time, and then to get
Drew holiday Huster. All that I mean, Jalen Brown has
(26:09):
been sensationally finals, Jason Tatum obviously not sensational shooting the ball,
but he's at obviously an impact defensively and twelve assists
last night. But those two are benefiting so much from
these three newcomers who have made them so deep. And
Brad Stevens traded for them all. He is on quite
a heater.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
No doubt. No, And obviously that's what you know.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
The Lakers, even though they got Lebron and Ad there now,
I think they were looking at that mark and saying, okay,
let's bring in Dan Hurley and see if he can.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Do that La style out here.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
But obviously, if whoever wins this championship, the other teams
are gonna be, you know, retooling to try to beat them.
Do you see Phoenix like I know, maybe the Knicks,
maybe Minnesota Dangles, Karl Anthony Towns. Do you think Phoenix
will be open to at least listening to trades offers
(27:06):
for Kevin Durant, Like, could you see that possibly happening?
Speaker 12 (27:10):
All the messaging to this point has been know that
they're not going to entertain offers for Durant or Devin Booker.
I don't think there really is a trade market for
Bradley Beal after the season that he just endured. But
look what's gonna the only when you look at Boston's
team again and you throw Horford into that top six.
I mean, their top six is undeniably the best in
(27:33):
the league. But it's going to get real expensive here.
So they they you know, they're two wins away. They
you know, history says when you get up two oh
so it's happened thirty six times in the finals, thirty
one times the team that went up two oh one
at all. So history says they're going to get there.
But they're going to have to give Jason Tatum a
(27:54):
deal in excess of three hundred million this summer. Derek
White will also want an extension. His extension is I
think his four year deal is worth in the one hundred
and twenty five million range they've already given forzingis an extension.
They've already given your holiday extensions. You can't operate like
that in today's NBA. In this new CBA, you're going
to be you have to be willing to pay bazillions
(28:16):
in luxury tax to keep a team like that together,
and you also basically forfeit any other ways to change
your team. So the question in Boston will be and
it was certainly going to be louder had they lost.
If they lose in these finals, if the Mavericks can
come back and the Celtics again fall short, then they
really have to answer some questions because their top five
(28:38):
six guys are going to be so expensive. But how
long can they keep this group together? Because again, next
season alone, once Tatum gets this deal, just Tatum and Brown.
That's six hundred million. Wow, Rob Parker money.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
No, that's Chris Hey, that's a lot.
Speaker 12 (28:58):
I actually thought of you, guys because my former teammate
and my neighbor, Tim McMahon, he's organizing a big media
media run here at the finals between games.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Are you still playing?
Speaker 12 (29:11):
I can't, I can't move.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
I was gonna say, like, God's better be careful because
you know I would kill myself out there.
Speaker 12 (29:21):
Mark, I can't started wanting to fly in for that one.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Now, Mark, did you used to play with us when
we played on in Chicago on top of the Marryotte
on the.
Speaker 12 (29:31):
Roof many years and times ago.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
I remember that, and Chris the all time. You remember
this too. Rick Tellinger on a Sunday during the finals
wrote to college, I remember that about the players, the
media players.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Do you remember that?
Speaker 6 (29:47):
Oh?
Speaker 12 (29:47):
Yeah, no, it caused quite a rough I.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Couldnt believe that, Chris. I couldn't believe that made the paper.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
I was in Chicago during Michael still up first team.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
I think he was on the second team or something. Man,
I still remember that. No, No, this is I mean, Mark,
let me ask you this.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
This is an era of parody, right, I mean, this
will be the sixth champion in the last six years.
As you said, I mean, will Boston even come back
intact next year?
Speaker 3 (30:22):
So maybe we haven't even another champion next year? Like,
do you like this era? And do you think it's
good for the league?
Speaker 4 (30:29):
We know the golden years, the eighties, uh, the Jordan years,
those were kind of dominated by dynasties.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Do you think this is good for the league? And
do you like it personally?
Speaker 12 (30:40):
Personally? I have always liked being surprised to some degree,
like I don't. But but I again, I think I'm
in the minority there. I think history shows that when
there is a behemoth for the whole league to chase
and hate when you're you know, when you're not in
that fan base. I do think, you know, the Bulls,
(31:01):
the Warriors of more recent vintage going to five straight finals.
I think the league probably was more if you want
to judge it on ratings and that kind of thing,
I think the league probably did better with teams like
that when there was a monster that everybody was trying
to knock off. But look, Boston, I think Boston will
keep it together in the short term. Like I'm you know,
(31:21):
I'm sure if they win it all here, if they
can get two more wins, they're gonna bring this team back.
But my question is a long term how long can
they keep it together. There's no way they're gonna be
able to just pay all of these guys, and if
they want to bring in new players, it's gonna be
really hard. So yes, I mean, I think, you know,
I don't want to sit here in Kate Boston couldn't
(31:42):
win and repeat. I don't want to make it sound
like it's impossible, but this new CBA is designed to basically, yeah,
I think it is designed to spread the wealth and
make it hard to spend beyond two match players. And
that's why what Phoenix did the approach the Suns took
(32:03):
stocked everybody because they they completely zagged and just went
over the top with we're gonna get three max guys,
and you're gonna see this summer. You know they're talking
Phoenix about they want a point guard, they want another big,
they want another wing. Well, you're signing minimum guys. What
kind of difference makers are you really gonna find?
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Right?
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Right, that's our man, Mark Stein, great stuff. Check out
this league uncut the podcast with him and Chris Haynes.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Great stuff.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Man.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
As always, thank you brother, and stay off the court.
Don't don't. We don't want you getting hurt.
Speaker 12 (32:38):
You know what, you will not play on the injury report.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Please do not play, Mark, Okay, don't do it.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
All right man, Later it does, Yeah, Moroco will come
your way.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Post it right after we get off the air. All right,
Rob g you got some interest in stuff going on
on Twitter?
Speaker 11 (33:32):
Yeah, so you guys know that Dan Hurley turning on
the Lakers was the all caps headline of the day.
Well lost in the sauce of all of that, it
happened actually within the first twenty minutes of our show
kicking off earlier.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
This happened.
Speaker 11 (33:45):
Well, Hapa Cuffs, the legend in front of the show,
has been on the show a couple of times, put
out this tweet saying, quote, people saying Lebron doesn't want
to win anymore have no idea what they're talking about lol,
which seems innocuous, And then Lebron responded to that tweet
himself saying, quote, do they ever know what they're talking about?
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Chris? We are your thoughts on Lebron?
Speaker 4 (34:09):
Well, I mean, I don't know that anybody saying Lebron
doesn't want to win anymore.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
I do get that.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
It probably feels like there's been a down tick, and
like I do, I think people feel like he's not
leaving the Lakers to go to Philadelphia. Now he might
still be, he might be willing to do that, but
the general feeling is, oh, he's staying with the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
That's the old Lebron going right, moving on Chris to
a situation that can help him get to where he
wants rather than staying here where he's comfortable.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
I think that's what I mean.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
People are looking at it like this team isn't gonna
win a championship. They're good, but they're not great. They're
not gonna win a championship, and Lebron's willing the state.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
And the West is loaded Chris, and the West faded, like,
what are you winning here?
Speaker 4 (34:59):
He could easily go to Philly and have a better chance,
no guarantee they do it, but have a better chance.
He could go to Phoenix for less money, maybe they
drive Brownie.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
So I just think that's what it is.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
I don't think anybody saying doesn't want to win, right
if he's gonna play.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
But yeah, he's not willing to move around like he
would have been right in days gone by, and.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
So, and I respect that and get that Rob at
this point in his life if you doesn't mean I
mean old, his.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Family's here, I don't think or just try to win
it where you're at, you know what I'm saying, like
I wouldn't be.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
I mean, I get that.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
So, and you know, Lebron obviously having his when he
says do they ever, he's having his kind of media feud.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
I guess with Kendrick Perkins.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
You know, Chris, I know he didn't like Kendrick Perkins
take on Brownie.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Well remember yeah, we played that you would agree with, right, Yeah?
Speaker 1 (35:58):
I just thought, wow, you know remember we were talking
about that that there have been some big time media
people going after Lebron. Remember the Mike Wilbond stuff. Right,
But but that's one thing. Was it Barkley and Shaq
calling him a roach or something?
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Chris?
Speaker 1 (36:12):
What is that? I didn't even see that Rob jaying
that is they called Perkins a roach?
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Oh, Perk, I thought you Perkins. I knew they insulted Bro.
I didn't know they called him a roach. Yeah, we
didn't like that. And I don't blame him. So you're
saying people are going after Lebron or no no, no, no,
no no.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
But I'm just saying Perkins, Mike Wilbond was angry when
they fired Darvin Ham and went after Lebron. That's all
I'm just saying, Like years ago, you would have never
heard that.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
Yeah, you know, I don't know if you know, like
you said, I mean, Perk accused him of trying to
insert himself into the whole.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
You know, Remember I had said that before. Remember did
not say that. I just said that's what it sounded
like to me.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
Yeah, yeah, so I but that's probably what Lebron or
something that's he's referring to that he may have sparked,
may have sparked him to write that tweet.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Like do they ever know?
Speaker 4 (37:08):
I mean, look, Lebron is rob I've said it, and
I believe it. I think he's the most scrutinized athlete
in American history. He said because of the the you know,
the technology today you know, right.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
But also he came out the chosen one on his back.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
All that.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
I mean, you can't have it both ways, like like
like which one is it you want to be unassuming
and not It's okay, he was a talented player, he
was highly touted. Chris all that, he's a chosen one,
King James. You can't have all that in an act like,
oh my god, why they saying this about me?
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Well, that's and that's what we're talking about with the
w NBA can't do it. That's right, that's what we
I mean, what did And this is why I keep
saying this is good for the league. Would they rather
go back to anonymity? Nobody's talking about them, nobody can.
I mean, look, they've had plenty of great players. We
(38:08):
get they've had players better than Kaitlyn Clark, but there
is no Dedyning. They were anonymous.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
No, I mean seriously, Rob, no one was paying attention.
Doesn't mean the players weren't great. And now with.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
The attention, though, comes the scrutiny, comes the opinions, Like right,
comes the opinions you disagree with, Oh, they don't know
what that's how it is. But their money probably will
go up, and uh maybe it'll help the league. I
think it will.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
All right, it's the Ey couple, Chris and Rod.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
We are signing off but keep that dial locked on
Fox Sports Radio because Harmon and Smith are next.
