the Super Bowl a year ago, not making the playoffs

of contracts before the season, holdouts, injuries.

coming from owner Jed York of the San Francisco forty
nine Ers. He told a report a reporter a newspaper
in San Francisco, when asked about the futures of general
manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, that you
can forget the idea of us firing John Lynch. You

can forget the idea of us trading Kyle Shanahan. Those
dudes ain't going nowhere. They are back for next season.

Shanahan guy, and I get it.

three against the Patriots. You run the ball four times

like at some point. And you gotta be careful because

you go. I remember when the Pistons had Rick Carlisle,
like two thousand and three, they went to the playoffs,
went to the second round. They beat Tracy McGrady in
the Magic Wow, great job, young promising coach. You got
your own guy. Okay, wait a minute, Larry Brown's available.

At that point, Larry Brown had not won a championship
in the NBA, but he won in college. Pistons. Go
get Larry Brown, make a change. That coach won the championship.
The next year, went back to the finals, the fought,
and the next year after that. My only point is
some guys might not be able to actually get you

over the hump, and sometimes you have to identify that
and recognize you might blow this window of opportunity. With
the forty nine ers, people are getting paid all of
a sudden. Now you're losing people, you know what I mean.
The team that you had when you went to those
two Super Bowls is not going to be the same
next year. And if you have to pay brock Perty,

you're gonna lose even more people.

All right, So this this would be my priss back
with you on this on this one.

First of all, I'm gonna say, out of the three g's,
he's done a good job. Okay, all right, So I
wouldn't say because when you win, right, I wouldn't say
great but good. And I'm gonna tell you why the
reason you just laid out with the Rick Carlisle thing, right, perfect,
I understand that perfectly fine, because I saw that, I
lived that. I know what that feels like. I've seen it.

They got rid of him, They brought in the guy
they do win their championship in Detroit, But that coach
they got rid of, Rick Carlisle went on and won
the championship somewhere else in Dallas, right, yep, he did.

He's younger, he's somebody that's going to be around a
lot longer than Larry Brown. And you get rid of him,
you kick him out the door to another team, and
the other team benefits by winning the championship.

That's fair, right, Okay, So that's what I would say
with Kyle Sheenonhan, Right, what other head coach are you
going to bring in that's you know, more qualified, has
the pedigree and has shown the propensity to succeed with
that organization.

I'm not afraid of the unknown, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah,
I'm afraid of the known. Yeah and then yeah, okay,
the known is that we haven't been able to win
with him for sure. Okay, if you were to go
back and ask Ralph Wilson, who was the owner of
the Buffalo billis Marvel.

four years in a row.

it was hard to be mad at the ownership at

I remember they couldn't score. They lost like the NFC
Championship game eight to six or something like you know

what I mean, like like they couldn't score.

I agree, Rob But and then what happened? They bringing
John Goo. Guess what?

They win it that next year? And then Tony Tony
Dungee leaves and wins with the Colts something. It's like
I hear it that that's all fine and dandy. I
understand the rhetoric for sure, but and it's not to
say that it's right or wrong.

Like I think the Tony Dungee thing was right. It
was the right move.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
It was you know what I mean, Like like you say,
how could you fire Tony Dungey At that point, it
was like, we're not gonna win, Like he's had these
two or three chances. Man, we got a team that's loaded.
Maybe can't get us over the hump, right. And that's
why I always bring up the Marvel Levy. I mean, like,
that's dubious to lose four super Bow so for in
a row. Come on, you know how hard is to

get to super Bowl for in a row. And it's
dubious on Kyle Shanahan. He had a chance to win
three super Bowl three.

It's different if you get to the super Bowl and
they blow you out and you didn't, you know, you're
not good enough. I could accept that, but you got
ten point leads both times and you change up with
what you should. You know, you throw the ball instead
of running it right.

talking about in the last hour, right, Like a lot
of these head coaches don't have game feel, so exactly
what you're saying about situational football, right, they're up eight
two minutes left, run the ball, right.

You know what it is though, it's the ego. It's
like it's like, I'm gonna do it my way. This

a formula to win, which is about eating up clock.

Clock running the football, we don't even have to go anywhere.
If we're at the twenty two and just don't lose
any yard age, you move forward, and now we're three

Bill Parcells and score a touchdown there at the one
yard line. One yard line, first play, he has a

small it is in the end zone when you're at
the one, right, there's no room. Right, What does a
rookie do on that play? First down, first and goal
at the one? There's a pick in the end zone.

I always remember Thomas coming running down running down the
first quarter and then coming out of the game when
they got down to the twenty yard line. I always
said to myself, I wonder what that was all about.
But I always remember the Bills players saying after when
they went force was as we did. Is part of
our brains out when we went down to the Super Bowl.

So I have to blame some of that blame on

All right, So I make no excuses because Ohio State
they won this game fair and squared. There's no cheating,
there's no rest, there's no like, there's nobody to play.
I do think that a few things that we are
going to have to examine, especially after that Notre Dame
in Georgia Georgia game, because these these are teams that

had the buys. They've been off for twenty five days.
They've not played a football game in twenty five days.
So I do think that the and all three of
the teams, even though Boise and Arizona State were bigger
under underdogs, that they started out very very slowly too
compared to the teams that played the previous week. And
if the same thing happens to Georgia as well, I

think that there's that that that could be a trend,
that it's something similar to what we're seeing in baseball,
where where the teams that have the buys in in
the first round we sell that.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
The first year this past year because because the Yankees
and Dodgers made it all the way through the first year,
you're right, all the good teams got knocked out.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Uh So I do think that there could be an
adjustment period in terms of the coaches, right that they
may have to handle their their team differently because I
don't know if Dave Roberts and you know, and if
he did something different with the with the Dodgers this
year compared to the previous year where but but I
(23:54):
do think that that's something to take note of. And
and you know, so Oregon started out flat and Ohio
State just jumped on them. And once you're down third
thirty four to nothing in the first half, I mean,
it was unbelievable. Then Oregon scores at the end of
the half, okay, eight thirty four eight, they come back

out score again. Now now it's fifteen to thirty four,
and then they and then they got to stop. But
at that point in time, you know, if you get
if you do anything except go touchdown, touchdown touchdowns.

Right, it was still down three scores even with that score, right,
it was thirty four to fifteen.

Yeah, yeah, exactly exactly. So it's tough sledding, and kudos
to Ohio State. But I do think it's funny how
these narratives run. Is that up until today it was

you remember Tony Dungee was the all world coach in
Tampa Bay and they fired him and guess what happened?
They want to super Bowl? Then very next year it happens.

It does happen. It is those are outlier results happen,
and and the and the second thing is this is
that San Francisco season this year was actually doomed prior
prior to the seasons even starting if you pay attention
this year and pre previous years pretty much all the time,

when when teams have contract issues with some of their
best players, it's a disaster. And San Francisco had an
issue with Brandon and I you that drug on way
too long, and the and the left tackle, the Cincinnati
Bengals issues with T Higgins and with Jamar Chase all
off season over a contracts and it infects the team

and it bothers the chemistry of the team and all
of the teams that well, not not all of them,
but the vast majority of times when you have multiple
contract issue who's on a team, it breeds some resentment
with the players and the organization. So I would judge

Kyle shanahans ten here as a great success of it,
because you've been to the super Bowl twice, and I
would rather a guy figure out how to make one, two,
three calls better in a super Bowl than then to
try to then try to replace him because of Jim
Jim Harbaugh not walking through that door. He's already in

How about this last thing. Lamar Jackson, YEP, I think
he's the MVP. I expect him to play well and
beat the Browns win the division the team started owing
to He has the third best quarterback waiting for a
single season. Aaron Rodgers as the first two, Lamar would
be third, and Peyton Manning would be fourth. Of all

the quarterbacks who got thirty five or more touchdowns and
less than six interceptions, there have been seven in NFL history.

nine Ers. He told a report a reporter a newspaper
in San Francisco, when asked about the futures of general
manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, that you
can forget the idea of us firing John Lynch. You

can forget the idea of us trading Kyle Shanahan. Those
dudes ain't going nowhere. They are back for next season.

like at some point. And you gotta be careful because

you go. I remember when the Pistons had Rick Carlisle,
like two thousand and three, they went to the playoffs,
went to the second round. They beat Tracy McGrady in
the Magic Wow, great job, young promising coach. You got
your own guy. Okay, wait a minute, Larry Brown's available.

At that point, Larry Brown had not won a championship
in the NBA, but he won in college. Pistons. Go
get Larry Brown, make a change. That coach won the championship.
The next year, went back to the finals, the fought,
and the next year after that. My only point is
some guys might not be able to actually get you

over the hump, and sometimes you have to identify that
and recognize you might blow this window of opportunity. With
the forty nine ers, people are getting paid all of
a sudden. Now you're losing people, you know what I mean.
The team that you had when you went to those
two Super Bowls is not going to be the same
next year. And if you have to pay brock Perty,

you're gonna lose even more people.

All right, So this this would be my priss back
with you on this on this one.

First of all, I'm gonna say, out of the three g's,

I understand that perfectly fine, because I saw that, I
lived that. I know what that feels like. I've seen it.

They got rid of him, They brought in the guy
they do win their championship in Detroit, But that coach
they got rid of, Rick Carlisle went on and won
the championship somewhere else in Dallas, right, yep, he did.

He's younger, he's somebody that's going to be around a
lot longer than Larry Brown. And you get rid of him,
you kick him out the door to another team, and
the other team benefits by winning the championship.

That's fair, right, Okay, So that's what I would say
with Kyle Sheenonhan, Right, what other head coach are you
going to bring in that's you know, more qualified, has
the pedigree and has shown the propensity to succeed with
that organization.

I'm not afraid of the unknown, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah,
I'm afraid of the known. Yeah and then yeah, okay,
the known is that we haven't been able to win

back and ask Ralph Wilson, who was the owner of
the Buffalo billis Marvel.

four years in a row.

it was hard to be mad at the ownership at
Tampa Bay. They had an unbelievable defense Tony Dungeon. Ever,

Championship game eight to six or something like you know

what I mean, like like they couldn't score.

I agree, Rob But and then what happened? They bringing

They win it that next year? And then Tony Tony
Dungee leaves and wins with the Colts something. It's like

understand the rhetoric for sure, but and it's not to
say that it's right or wrong.

Like I think the Tony Dungee thing was right. It
was the right move.

It was you know what I mean, Like like you say,
how could you fire Tony Dungey At that point, it
was like, we're not gonna win, Like he's had these
two or three chances. Man, we got a team that's loaded.
Maybe can't get us over the hump, right. And that's
why I always bring up the Marvel Levy. I mean, like,
that's dubious to lose four super Bow so for in
a row. Come on, you know how hard is to

get to super Bowl for in a row. And it's
dubious on Kyle Shanahan. He had a chance to win
three super Bowl three.

It's different if you get to the super Bowl and
they blow you out and you didn't, you know, you're
not good enough. I could accept that, but you got
ten point leads both times and you change up with
what you should. You know, you throw the ball instead

talking about in the last hour, right, Like a lot
of these head coaches don't have game feel, so exactly
what you're saying about situational football, right, they're up eight
two minutes left, run the ball, right.

You know what it is though, it's the ego. It's
like it's like, I'm gonna do it my way. This
is what we've done all year. But there's a there's
a formula to win, which is about eating up clock.

Clock running the football, we don't even have to go anywhere.
If we're at the twenty two and just don't lose
any yard age, you move forward, and now we're three
plays forty five seconds right, the forty second plot?

Yeah, forty seconds each play, and we move it up
three yards yard on each play. Now we're at the
U nineteen or whatever, and we kick a field goal,

Bill Parcells and score a touchdown there at the one
yard line. One yard line, first play, he has a

halfback option with a rookie half back. You know how
small it is in the end zone when you're at
the one, right, there's no room. Right, What does a
rookie do on that play? First down, first and goal
at the one? There's a pick in the end zone.

was a terrible thing. And that's what they said. You know,
I always remember Thomas coming running down running down the
first quarter and then coming out of the game when
they got down to the twenty yard line. I always
said to myself, I wonder what that was all about.
But I always remember the Bills players saying after when
they went force was as we did. Is part of
our brains out when we went down to the Super Bowl.

So I have to blame some of that blame on

All right, So I make no excuses because Ohio State
they won this game fair and squared. There's no cheating,
there's no rest, there's no like, there's nobody to play.
I do think that a few things that we are
going to have to examine, especially after that Notre Dame
in Georgia Georgia game, because these these are teams that

had the buys. They've been off for twenty five days.
They've not played a football game in twenty five days.
So I do think that the and all three of
the teams, even though Boise and Arizona State were bigger
under underdogs, that they started out very very slowly too
compared to the teams that played the previous week. And
if the same thing happens to Georgia as well, I

think that there's that that that could be a trend,
that it's something similar to what we're seeing in baseball,
where where the teams that have the buys in in
the first round we sell that.

The first year this past year because because the Yankees
and Dodgers made it all the way through the first year,
you're right, all the good teams got knocked out.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Uh So I do think that there could be an
adjustment period in terms of the coaches, right that they
may have to handle their their team differently because I
don't know if Dave Roberts and you know, and if
he did something different with the with the Dodgers this
year compared to the previous year where but but I

do think that that's something to take note of. And
and you know, so Oregon started out flat and Ohio
State just jumped on them. And once you're down third
thirty four to nothing in the first half, I mean,
it was unbelievable. Then Oregon scores at the end of
the half, okay, eight thirty four eight, they come back

out score again. Now now it's fifteen to thirty four,
and then they and then they got to stop. But
at that point in time, you know, if you get
if you do anything except go touchdown, touchdown touchdowns.

Right, it was still down three scores even with that score, right,
it was thirty four to fifteen.

Yeah, yeah, exactly exactly. So it's tough sledding, and kudos
to Ohio State. But I do think it's funny how
these narratives run. Is that up until today it was

one and blah blah blah after beating Ohio State and

it's all man, he'll know ever win the big win.
And then we've seen how much the narrative flip flops
on Ryan Days, the Ohio State head coach.

I would say really good. First of all, you go
and Rob, Rob has lost his ever loved because the
first thing is it is unfortunate that the that the
man has lost the Super Bowl twice, right, I.

first Super Bowl, if Jimmy Garoppolo can actually complete a
pass to a wide open guy and then then then
he wins the game. But but first of all, do
you know how hard it is to find coaches to
lose in the Super Bowl. That's the first thing I

got I got two of them that lost four super Bowls.

His name is Bud Grant and Marvel both lost for
Super Bowls?

And and do you know what? Uh, the the alternative is,
do you know how hard it is to replace a
coach that is that good? First of all? And the
second thing, Okay.

Your history in football is very vague because yesterday, George
hold on, because because because I saw it happen. Don't
you remember Tony Dungee was the all world coach in
Tampa Bay and they fired him and guess what happened?
They want to super Bowl? Then very next year it happens.

It does happen. It is those are outlier results happen,
and and the and the second thing is this is
that San Francisco season this year was actually doomed prior
prior to the seasons even starting if you pay attention
this year and pre previous years pretty much all the time,

when when teams have contract issues with some of their
best players, it's a disaster. And San Francisco had an
issue with Brandon and I you that drug on way
too long, and the and the left tackle, the Cincinnati
Bengals issues with T Higgins and with Jamar Chase all
off season over a contracts and it infects the team

and it bothers the chemistry of the team and all
of the teams that well, not not all of them,
but the vast majority of times when you have multiple
contract issue who's on a team, it breeds some resentment
with the players and the organization. So I would judge

Kyle shanahans ten here as a great success of it,
because you've been to the super Bowl twice, and I
would rather a guy figure out how to make one, two,
three calls better in a super Bowl than then to
try to then try to replace him because of Jim
Jim Harbaugh not walking through that door. He's already in

LA right now.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
How about this last thing. Lamar Jackson, YEP, I think
he's the MVP. I expect him to play well and
beat the Browns win the division the team started owing
to He has the third best quarterback waiting for a
single season. Aaron Rodgers as the first two, Lamar would
be third, and Peyton Manning would be fourth. Of all

the quarterbacks who got thirty five or more touchdowns and
less than six interceptions, there have been seven in NFL history.

Six of them all won the MVP.

The one guy didn't win was Patrick Mahomes because Aaron
Rodgers beat him out in that very same season for
the MVP.

Why it is Lamar Jackson. These stats are unbelievable and
his team is winning if they if they win the division,
he should absolutely be the MVP. The here's the issue
that Lamar is up against. It is like when NBA
voters NFL voters, they just want a new face. They

want Josh Allen to be the MVP so bad.

the playoffs from last year as well?

be the MVT so bad. That's that's the issue, and
that's what Lamar Jackson is up up against.
