(01:22):
with earlier in the program. So Shaquille O'Neill watched the
first two games of the NBA Finals. I guess because
he got paid and they forced him to watch. It
is what it sounds like to me. And he announced
he's going on vacation now and could care less and
he won't be watching the NBA Finals. Rob G, can
you spell out a little bit more of the public

(01:43):
service announcement that he sent to NBA fans?

Speaker 5 (01:46):
I mean, I don't know what else here is the
spell out? Rob you kind of laid it all out there.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
No, but just pay like what it was like on
the broadcast, you know what I mean?

Speaker 5 (01:54):
It like tweed it or whatever like he told yeah
last night after Game two. Of course, the Thunder come
back and win series one on one heading back to Indiana,
and a lot of people, yourself included, are like, hey,
we got a series.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
It's one one the series.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
They say it didn't start until the road team wins.
The game happened in game one, Okay, see bounce back
like they should in game two. All eyes now to
Game three, which should be a pivotal game for both sides,
and everyone's excited about it if you're a basketball fan,
except for Shaquilla nill they.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Listen Indiana stole one. I'm just glad it's not the
old format that two three too, Remember that format that
two to three two? Yeah, So now we have a series.
I won't even be watching because after this, I'm.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Just I don't even want to hear.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
In the mohammas.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Thanks for that.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
I just just if you're the NBA or whatever, you
got a cringe, seriously.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Like is that necessary? Like even if you're.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Going on vacation. Number one, Kelvin, why are you announcing
that you're going on vacation and you're gonna miss like
the crescendo of the NBA season right? And number two?
You know, like did you even if you're going on
vacation or whatever, you're not gonna pay attention or put
the game on? At some point? You can't be in

(03:13):
the pool all day, you know, at some point you're
gonna come out and in the evening Watchington put the
game on.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
You know, even if you're relaxing or on vacation, it's.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
The NBA Finals, or maybe you don't go on vacation
until the finals are over. You do have all year
to go on vacation It's not like you work every
day you cover the NBA. Right, there's a season and
guess what after the June twenty second, Kelvin, is about
four or five months that you can go on vacation,

(03:44):
don't I don't get that.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Yeah, okay, A couple of things here.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
This is the same guy who made a top ten
without putting Kareem in his top ten players of all time,
and who screamed at us that we need to consider
Steph Curry being a goat and then didn't put Steph
Curry in his top ten.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Go okay, let me continue, toy.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
They literally have a segment where they just make fun
of him not knowing stuff. Also, this is where I
think the league would say, hey, man, can you just
not because this is the same league that's employing you,
employed you as a player in the league's you know,
one of the bigger broadcasts for the leagues, And this
was on NBA TV. If I'm not mistaken, right, rob

(04:22):
g this is a league network.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
So can you just not?

Speaker 6 (04:27):
I don't even care if you If you want to
go and say you're not gonna and you genuinely maybe
not about to watch the game, that's fine.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Can you just not chat.

Speaker 6 (04:34):
We're trying to continue to have a product that people want,
people want to see, people.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Might want to Big Stone like that says that he's
not interested.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
It's just bad.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
It's just bad for business. And you just didn't have
to shout. You can text it in the group chat.
You can tell all you boys you know what I mean.
But you don't have to say that over live broadcast
on my network.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
NBA TV. So that's just crazy. Now.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
Where I will add to this rob as I switch
gear from Shock doing shack tonal full type things, is
this One issue that I have is that I think
the NBA is missing something that is imperative. When you're
creating something being special, when you're creating something being unique,

(05:17):
when you're creating the hastiness of something like this matters.
This is important. And I think the NBA, I don't
know where if the marketing budget went down, if somebody
a couple of emails slipped through somebody, they forgot to
check them. But the NBA is missing a few things
that I've grown accustomed to my whole years of watching.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Let me break it down.

Speaker 7 (05:42):
Usually you get.

Speaker 6 (05:43):
Somebody amazing or not amazing, Fergie and they sing the
national anthem. Right, we get somebody that's singing the national anthem,
the star sangle banner something, and you have that moment
where you get to see Usher, please welcome Musher raymn
he Oh shoot, Usher's doing this thing. Okay, that's something
that I'm like, where is that at halftime performance, pregame performance?

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Right, we're out of the arena.

Speaker 6 (06:08):
Please welcome Kenjick Lamar, Please welcome NBA young boy. I
don't know somebody whoever is hot right now? Shaboozie. Everybody
in the club getting tens somebody usually and you feel bigger.
It feels like, oh snap, this is the finals.

Speaker 7 (06:23):
Rob. I don't feel that they're not even doing intros.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
They're not doing the big coming out six foot five
guard from Iowas St.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Tyre's Alibert, none of that.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
So, not only are we not getting Mike Breen, Jeff
vn Gundemar Jackson. Now we're not getting the NBA logo,
not on the jerseys, the NBA logos not on the court.
They're not putting it on some kind of way. We're
not getting the intros. We're not getting somebody the hot
artist or two or three coming out and seeing the
national anthem stars mangle better. We're not getting a halftime performance.

(06:55):
They're not making this feel special like the whole experience
like this.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
It feels different.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
And I'm genuinely confused on why the NBA is doing
this when this is what we've grown accustomed to so
much so.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
They've done it for the n season tournament.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
They got the huge court with all these new weird
colors and logos, right, they got that, They've got performances,
they got a whole vibe. It's a whole vibe. They
do it for All Star games. Everybody in the Mama
the area they're doing stuff. The NBA Finals just starts
boom games on, no performances, no interest.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Sang last year.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Tell me who sang the national anthem to start to
get on.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
That's that's that's my point.

Speaker 6 (07:35):
You know what, you don't even know? It doesn't you do, yes,
you feel.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
It tells you how.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
It doesn't matter because you couldn't even name anybody who
sang the national anthem the last few years at the finals.
I rob no idea that you couldn't name anybody if
you would have said last year was so and so,
last year was so and so I'm asking you because
I can't. I've been coming to the league since nineteen
eighty seven, and I can't tell you you one person

(08:01):
who sang the national I can't, I really can't. Can
you tell me in two thousand, two thousand and four
at the finals who sang? Because I says it, Anita
Baker mistivities.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Is what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (08:13):
You go to the game, Okay, let's go like you
all those games at the at Palace Alrighty Hills and
we talked about.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
It off air.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
I know, you know it was amazing, brother Wallace, Wallace, Wallace, Chauncey.
But I'm saying all the passantry of the finals, it
makes you feel big. They did the little the fire
thing would come out when they did well, you know,
the gong would go yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
But that was but that wasn't That wasn't the NBA.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
That's what what they did in Detroit.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
The NBA showed it, but maybe the other but maybe
the other ones aren't as spectacular. I think people get
caught up and people tried to impersonate and do what
they did in Detroit. But there are a lot of
intros where they just aren't that spectacle, they aren't.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
And I get it.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
I mean there was a time when I was growing
up where they went to a TV.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Commercial on the national anthem. They didn't show it.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
When I was a kid, they went, all right, we'll
be back with the start of the ball game, and
then the national they would they wouldn't show it.

Speaker 6 (09:16):
But I'm saying you, whether it be the performance you
have a half time or pre you know, before the game,
you know a little seven minute performance from again, I'm
just saying Kendrick because he been he had the hottest
year ever. But you know, Kendrick or whoever's hot right now,
you get him out there, God care, go get Jack
Harlowe something. I'm just saying it just boom, the game's
on and he's like, oh okay. And you used to

(09:36):
feel that you had the logo to Larry O'Brian trophy.
It just felt special, it felt different, it felt unique.
And I think to me, especially if you're telling me
this is an NBA Finals, you went into concern that
people might not want to watch or people I don't know,
what are the raiding's gonna do?

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Or do you think of do you think of some
stars saying that that would be the difference in the race.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
I'm just asking if.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
They had Kevin Washington in the promotions and department, Mark department,
and I knew, hey, man, I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 7 (10:02):
This might not be one of those crazy ones, but
let's help it.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
Absolutely. I'm going to try to get Kendrick, going to
try to get you know, uh who whatever, like kind
of a different genre of men. I'm going to get
who's my guy, bad buddy, I'm going to get post Malone.
I'm going to get somebody, and I'm announcing it that
maybe you just tune in and maybe you stick around
for the game. I'm not saying it's gonna change, but
it's all the pagengry. When you go to the movies,

(10:27):
they give you previews, you know this, You smell the
popcorn and slect the whole list.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
I just can't remember any before that. That's why I'm saying.
You're saying they're not doing anything special, but I don't remember.
And that's my only issue with you is if you
were knocking off and saying, oh yeah, back in so
and so they did this, so they did you know
what you remembered, then I could buy into that but
I don't. I don't buy into it just to have
somebody seen the national anth. You think they're gonna stick

(10:53):
around for the game. They're not gonna stick around for
a blowout. They're not gonna stick around for players that
they don't have that much excitement for. So I get it.
Could they do a little bit more or throw more confetti?
I guess you want them to throw confetti or turn
the music up a little bit inside the arena or something.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
But you're talking about rock because I know you are
a guy goes to the ballpark and you love all
the festivities. You want to take me out to the
ball game you want, no, but a part of the festivities.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
I just don't.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
But I'm trying to get to where what you're talking
about is if they did it in the past. Is
what I'm trying to say to you is that I
don't remember that.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
I don't know you heard that Bulls intro.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
There's only two intros that I remember hearing, only two,
and that's the Bulls and the Pistons. I don't remember
any of them seriously other than that those are the
two and they're both iconic. I don't you tell me
what the Thunder and the Calves were when they played
or it's the I'm just saying, do you remember that?

Speaker 2 (11:56):
No, I don't know their song.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
What I'm saying is when I'm watching the I want
the full experience. That's what makes it feels like a finals.
That's what makes it feels like a super Bowl. That'd
be like the super Bowl being like, oh, you don't
remember no funny commercials from last year, so we ain't
gonna play no more commercials. You go into it, there's commercials,
there's performances, it's halftime.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
It's all a part of the festivity.

Speaker 6 (12:16):
There's cool guests that come on and said, there's you know,
the big flag theres it's just the I'm Beyonce to go,
oh man, this is big.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
This is bigger than the normal. And that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Is that the NBA is kind of missing that to me,
and drastically in fact. And I'm saying that only can help,
not saying it changes things, but that getting able to help.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Eight seven seven ninety nine Fox eight seven seven.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
You feel its three sixty nine? Are you and Kelvin?

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Do you need somebody to sing the national anthem to
feel good about the NBA.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
Final six foot on Michael Jord.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
He's doing something, Michael Jordan playing twenty five years. He's
doing the Bulls Open.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
That's John C. Phillups won in two thousand and four.
That was twenty one years.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Sure, Rob Jen the next time he's talking, I'm living
in I'm living in the past, all right, and this
is what he's talking about. This might be all of
everything he's talking about is over twenty years old.

Speaker 7 (13:24):
Tatum Taintum eight.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Seven, seven ninety nine on Fox Shack Man Bro. You
got any problem with shack saying he's not gonna watch,
Or you got a problem that they haven't hired big
name entertainers to sing the national anthem? Would it jazz
up the NBA Finals for you? It is The Odd
Couple on a Magic City Monday, Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington

(13:48):
right here on Fox Sports Radio, Bumps.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Stick and Stay.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
And presenting Fergie singing the national anthem in the you
Know Me WHOA.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm Eastern,
four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (14:15):
Fox Sports Radio Shoot Boys a couple, Rob Parker, Kelvin
Washington on a on a Magic City Monday. I should
say for over forty years, ti Iraq has been helping
customers find the right tires for how, what and where
they drive, ship fast and free, backed by free road
hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installations

(14:36):
tire rack dot Com. It is the way tim should be.
All Right, Shaq said on NBA TV of all places,
I am about to rest Watchington the rest of these finals.
I'm about to go on vacation. I ain't watching no
more as if NBA TV wasn't employing them. And he's
talking about the NBA in that regard, and it also
just are they missing some of the finals pageantry, like

(14:57):
the things that elevate the experience.

Speaker 7 (14:59):
It's having seven ninety nine on Fox taking some.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Of your calls.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
We got rap Jerry in Seattle. You're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Jerry?

Speaker 8 (15:08):
How much can you guys hear me?

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yes, sir, we got you.

Speaker 8 (15:11):
So you know, Kelvin, I gotta tell you. We talked
last week and I was talking about how this is
kind of brought me back in this this game. The
quality of the game, all right, you are right, just
like the pageantry, like the NBA is fantastic, you know,
like Billy Crystal and Spike Lee, Yep, sidelines it is.
It is missing, man, you know, there is this like
it doesn't feel the same. And then like noticing also

(15:35):
like the pregame, it's like you got Stephen A. Smith
kind of man's plaining you how it's all gonna go.
It's like he's not gonna let someone who's the bigger celebrity, and.

Speaker 9 (15:42):
He is, and then Shack's kind of like being lazy.

Speaker 10 (15:46):
It kind of diminishes the game.

Speaker 8 (15:47):
I agree with you, man, it doesn't steal is like
pumped up, you know.

Speaker 6 (15:51):
And that's just why I've always said, if you needed
the TNT crew to be doing the pre impost and
if you had Mike Breen, Van Gundy and Mark Jackson
doing the it just feels bigger.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
It feels right bravatas to it.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Yeah, but it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
It doesn't erase the game or the players who are involved.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
I think you got listen to nothing you're talking about,
but I know I see.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
You, Jerry.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
It just doesn't like like you could sit here and
and dress it up and all that.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
It's just not it's still not going right yet.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
The reason that it doesn't feel big to you, Jerry,
isn't because of the the garnish what they call it
that they put, you know, on the side of meat
when they put a steak out of it.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Yeah, you know what I mean, Like you know on
the side.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
It's because the steak doesn't taste good or or it's
tough or it's not.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
That's the reason it doesn't feel big to you, Jerry.
Not the not the window dressing.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
It's because of them not having the stars that you're
used to having.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 8 (16:51):
But the other night, dude, was one of the best
shots I've seen in so long. That was in such
an amazing game.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
Oh the game was great, that's not.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, and it still did the worst ratings of anybody,
you know what I mean since they started recording, because
it wasn't enough to draw people and then boom you
get a great game. Now I'm waiting to see what
the numbers are for game two, because if they're not good,
then that's a really bad sign coming off with kelvin
a great game one. You know what I mean like

(17:21):
people should have had some interest right after that.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Yeah, we talked about it on Friday.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
These days off don't help either, right, because you want
to want to you think you build out the momentum
of that big shot and boom right back to Game
two and then again. By the way, Rod, listen, if
I told you we're going to the double date and
I said, all right, yeah, but she put on some
makeup looking like a little something something. I just want
a little makeup, Just want a little makeup. That's all
dressed it up a little bit for you, boy.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Yeah, but that makeup comes off, and guess what, still
not a pretty sight. Kevin in Culver City, you're under
yard couple of Fox Sports Radio and Kevin, do not
hang up. Rob G's gonna get your information because I'm
ready for my wings.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Now you're getting away with Ken.

Speaker 7 (18:04):
God is good all the time I got you.

Speaker 11 (18:08):
Listen, when you look at this, I want all the music,
all the hip hop headan here, Mary, rob G, Kelvin.
When you see that j Cole performance at halftime weekend
in the All Star Game, that's one of the best
halftime performances I've seen. And what the NBA does is
they put all their entertainment towards the halftime of the
All Star Games, and they had Lenny Kravitz doing the

(18:28):
All Star Game happening. I'm in La, so I think
with the finals, they don't put that towards the finals,
towards the national anthem. It's just not geared towards that.
I want the NBA to go back, and I could
tell them this is I can tell them how you
sell it in the nineties. I remember they have Michael Jordans,
the backstory against the new guys coming up. Get something
like that, shy. You know, he just beat the young Guns,

(18:51):
Anthony Edwards. He lost to Luca and the young Guns
last year. This is his chance to be the new
the new guy.

Speaker 9 (18:59):
It's writing in front of them to have the championship
for Kevin.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
Ain't got time for none of this. They ain't building up,
no storylines and none. They just getting right to the game.
Kevin up with you, thanks.

Speaker 9 (19:08):
The whole state behind him and Reggie Miller.

Speaker 11 (19:11):
Can't they do it? The underdogs, they beat the Knicks,
they beat the Cavs. You know, you gotta bring something
like that and bring the storyline element, you know, get
behind your players, and Shack he's just being shack, you know.
But he's gotta he's gotta get better selling that game.
And you gotta put more into the production of the
storyline of what this league is the players. This isn't

(19:31):
the League of the Shield. This is the league of players.
You gotta sell and market your players, and the NBA's
got to do a better job of doing that. You
got three three of the best young players in this league.
You got Sca, you got Jamen Women, You've got Halliburg,
you got Pascal. Let's go market these guys. You know,
it's part of the league marking the players too. They
got to sell the product to us.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
All right, Kevin, hold on, Rob Gill, take your information.
Cut and c.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
You're not even talking about radio.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
What's up? Cut?

Speaker 12 (20:05):
Hey, what's going on? Fellas? Oh you love your love
your show? First time, long time.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Thank you man. We appreciate that.

Speaker 12 (20:13):
Hey, man, love it. Just want you all to know, man, look,
being a fan of the I'm in Kansas City. We
don't have a team anymore. And I always remember when
the Kings were here that I met my uncle who
was doing security. He made me need or helped me
meet the Iceman and I've always been a fan, and

(20:34):
so when they got to him Duncan, I became you know,
I was like, okay, number one draft, I can do this.
I can you know, get back with my boys. Hey man,
this is the way that the league goes. And it
seems like it's almost like pre set, small market, we
are going to talk bad about our own business. I
don't understand what that's about, amen, small market sant Antonio

(20:57):
five rings in twenty years with one of the greatest
stuff power for us.

Speaker 9 (21:02):
They ever play the game right, And it was like,
and I know the.

Speaker 12 (21:05):
Game sometimes may have looked boring, but you know, sometimes
boring is greatness because they make it look boring because
it's just it's just simple to them. They can go
ahead and do it. And I don't understand the the
way that the NBA promotes itself. And sometimes I'm like
they demote themselves, you know, out here telling us that

(21:27):
that ratings matter as much as when we all know
today I think everybody knows this. Today we don't watch
or should I say our children, grandchildren or whoever. They
don't watch the game like we did. They go and
they consume it in little like they do it. It's
a microwave world, now.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Man, Oh that's that's that's true. I mean, we do
know that.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
But but the some of the other leagues are having
still have numbers. That's the only only thing that's different
like that. Just when you talk about the worst ever,
that's when you should be concerned. I don't kill anybody
says it wasn't like all the ratings weren't that good
Kelvin or you know what I mean, or luke warm
or whatever.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
No, the worst ever, No, you should.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
You shouldn't be We shouldn't be looking at the worst ever.
That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (22:15):
No, I agree, we should, I mean, And that's why
they're quiet right now.

Speaker 6 (22:18):
And that's why they're making you wait on these We
thought they were gonna drop at some point during the show.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
They're like, hold on, we're gonna start.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
Yeah, I'm still waiting, rob G have you seen anything
for game two?

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Not yet?

Speaker 4 (22:26):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
I'm just curious, what do you think, just just your
gut up or down from Game one.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Nine? It was eight point nine. I believe I'm gonna
go like nine to one.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
It's gonna go way down. You think you think down
at least ten, So you.

Speaker 6 (22:42):
Think it's down and bad, rob like for real, for
real coming off with game right, Yeah, but I mean
people might have tuned in because but you're still but
you tune it out.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
And Tom Haberstrow, I think he's Yahoo now he doesn't
really great, so he's all into this kind of you know,
metrics and numbers everything like that. So when they released
the ratings, he was able to track down what the
ratings look like hour to hour or every twenty minutes
the thing, right, right, So you compared it to last year,
and last year started off really high and it tapered down,

(23:13):
but it still ended up with like an eleven. This
one started off so badly in game one. It just
couldn't and it got better and better because the game
was getting closer towards the end, and it peaked I
think at like at like a just under a ten.
But it was so bad to begin with that That's
why the rads are so low. This game was not
close the entire game, So how is it going to

(23:34):
build up right and get higher?

Speaker 1 (23:36):
And actually you'll have actually calvin people tuning out as
it went, you know, once they built that fifteen to
eighteen point lead probably tuning out.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
Yeah, it's all bad, all right, We'll set to wait
and see if they get a seven something.

Speaker 3 (23:51):

Speaker 6 (24:03):
Roger, I ain't need you to set the table, Okay,
I'm about to get to the sound about to say
on the podcast. He had a lot to say when
it comes to coaching and his sons in particular, and
how he lets them get coached.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Let's listen.

Speaker 13 (24:15):
I've never got involved with my kids' coaches. I know,
from Briannie growing up to where he is now and
Bryce you know, on his way to Tucson, Arizona.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
I've never got involved. I've never went.

Speaker 13 (24:29):
To a practice and sat through practice the whole time
and see how my son was being utilized. I never
got on the phone with the coaches. Listen, he's there,
coach my son, coach from however you want to. And
I think you need to hold him accountable. I hope
you hold him more accountable than any other kid here.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
Once again, if you had anybody who was on the
other side of the microphone, as in Steve Nash, who
could push back and say anything like these podcasts are useless.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
So it's there.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
He lets Lebron say that, and all he had to
do was say, did you pick up the phone and
talk to uh Rob Polenka with the with Bronni drafting
Bronnie or or.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
Was that just the Lakers?

Speaker 1 (25:12):
You never talked to the Lakers about making sure that
he was gonna play with you because you were never involved?

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Come on, what is that really? Well?

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Does that make sense to you? He's never involved, never
said anything about any of his kids.

Speaker 6 (25:30):
Is that the only thing, the only thing I can
make sense to this is if you're going now that
he's trying to become a professional, I'm going to throw
you the lob figuratively literally to getting into the NBA.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
So I think, no, he says, no, that's not what
I mean.

Speaker 7 (25:48):
It can there is no greater definition to getting involved
in That's.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
What That's what I'm saying, James, Like, you can't at
least address it?

Speaker 4 (25:56):
Can you at least address it?

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Can Steve Nast say, but what happened Bronnie getting drafted
by the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Did you make a call and did you go out with.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Rob Polinka to dinner and Genie Bonson say hey, I
want this to happen.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
How did that come about?

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Were you involved in that?

Speaker 4 (26:12):
Is that anything wrong with that?

Speaker 6 (26:15):
This is where Steve Nash listens and then he goes, so
what changed with Bronnie? Like, how did you do? Did
you get involved with that? Was this just an opportunity
so I couldn't let go or what? And he it
was there, you know, explains whatever his reasoning is for
why that is. But yeah, it's a completely Once you
say that, it does make it. It's a the stark

(26:37):
difference of what happened with Bronnie. So I would like
to hear what change, That's all.

Speaker 7 (26:42):
I would like to hear why you got involved with this?

Speaker 6 (26:44):
Why you didn't say I chose for him to go
on his own path in the NBA exactly. I didn't
have a problem with him doing it, you know that.
But it just explained your thought process if this is
how you've conducted it the first seventeen eighteen years.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
That's my point.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
You can't say that you never got involved or anything like,
you know what I mean, because you did.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
That's the only way that's that's how he got there.
What changed with that? Hey, well, if you want to,
you can just say.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
You know what, I did get involved because I thought
it would be pretty neat all, right, like like you
know or whatever. And I did reach out and they
were receptive to it. They got out of respect to me,
whatever it is. But to just ignore like he wasn't involved, Like,
that's what I'm talking about, Like the idea of having
a podcast and having questions and talking about stuff.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
A podcast isn't just to just talk and not have
any dialogue.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
It's like I talk about the shop all the time, right, Kelvin,
you've been in barber.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Shops, dude, you could mean you could.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
I could walk in with this black Jordan pullover on
and somebody else say it's blue, it's navy blue, or
it's brown.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Get to argue yelling at.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
This am I right?

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Man?

Speaker 2 (27:53):
You coming in here with that Jordan?

Speaker 12 (27:54):
Man?

Speaker 2 (27:55):
Jordan, they don't even make no good stuff anymore? What
you crazy?

Speaker 12 (27:58):
Man?

Speaker 6 (27:58):
George as why like Adidas and now an hour discussion
of Adidas versus Jordan's.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
What everybody can't be. Like if you're peaching to the
choir to Barbara, what you're gonna agree with everything.

Speaker 6 (28:08):
Come on, Barbi blasphemis that is the polar opposite? Uh
in a barbershop.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
I've owned a.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Barbershop for twenty three years. Man, I going there and
it's World War three?

Speaker 4 (28:18):
You know that on you?

Speaker 6 (28:19):
You didn't even go in there and say your own man,
my name is Kelvin. No, it ain't mad cousin. My
cousin name spells.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Name just like ya. We call him Kevin. I know,
but my name is kel No. I'll tell you her name.
I'm just saying, brother, it's Kelvin. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (28:30):
I think this is where again. To me, it was
a great opportunity for him to express this. I don't
know that we fully have heard him talk about this
in a full, chilled casual I'm sipping on wine way
to say this is what I was thinking.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
This was my thought process.

Speaker 6 (28:47):
I knew BROWNI wanted to do this Da da da da,
because the only times we really heard were the quick
answers at like a press conference during the beginning of
this past Laker season. So this was an opportunity to
tell hey, man, it was different. It could have been yeah,
to put my foot out. I said, look, man, it's
a one, an opportunity, lifetime chance to play.

Speaker 7 (29:04):
With my son, and no one's ever done it like this.

Speaker 6 (29:06):
I had a change. I had to do it, and
Steve Nash to be like, wow, what did you think
of the criticism? Like there could have been a cool,
casual dialogue about this, And I do think it was
a missed opportunity for us to get some more insight
on that, especially saying I've been hands off with my
sons when it comes to hoops right and everything else previously.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
That that's the issue, and.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
You know what, you know what wrong? Your head is
gonna explode when we get Bryce in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
I'll be retired by then.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
No, we're getna not this coming season.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
He's got to do his one away and Lebron won't
be in the league though by then he's.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
Gonna play with Bryce, maybe not on the same team,
but he will have Bryce and Brianny and the Lakers won't.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
The Lakers aren't going to go that route by that
time because Bryce is actually gonna be good and they're
not going Other teams are not going for that.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
If he's a talent, they're not.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
I'm telling that you could do that, You could that
when when somebody's not high on their list and you
want to play that game. If he's a talent and
they think that he could help them win, ain't no
way they listening to that and say, oh yeah, we're
gonna let the Lakers get him, even though it should.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Be drafted higher or we have a higher pick. I
don't buy it.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Rob g make sure bosses, Scott, make sure we get
the game. Go to that game when it's the Lakers,
Bronni and Lebron versus Proby won't be in the league
by Atlanta Hawks and Bryce and Bryce Bryce sure Brownie
would still be in the league.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
He gonna hang out for the Union, the Fanly Reunion.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
They gonna let him go the Fanly Reunion.

Speaker 6 (30:33):
After that, anything's possible, but they gonna make make sure
it's a Fanly reunion with the James Boys. Watch and Rob,
we gotta be there eating popcorner person so I can
watch you.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
It's gonna be hilarious. All right, we got last call.

Speaker 10 (33:11):
So you got to hey, but listen, Lebron. But Sugar Nut.

Speaker 9 (33:15):

Speaker 9 (33:31):
You know what I'm trying to say, i'mbout.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
JJ Red Egg Steve Nasty to say.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
I'm just saying, what's the chest? Saying what's your chest?

Speaker 11 (33:38):
They can't coach?

Speaker 10 (33:40):

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Man, all right, you know what, we appreciate that. Man,
call back in. I'm glad you still listening to the show.
Appreciate the support. All good, Sure, appreciate it, No doubt.

Speaker 6 (34:12):
There is a There are people online, by the way,
Rob who were saying, like, why why why is he
what makes him like decide who he's gonna go on
with when he goes on these podcasts. Obviously he's he
has his own, but uh, he goes on and people
wants to wondering why he hasn't done it with his
biggest fan and Shannon Shark, like, what's up with that?

Speaker 2 (34:29):
People been wondering about that.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
I had a question for you because I was talking
about this a little bit me and you, I think
last week a little off the camera, But what really
wondering the w n B A. We know it isn't
necessarily the biggest, but I was watching the uh Sabatelenca
and in golf Cocoa Golf finals match in the in
the French Open and got me to thinking, like, what

(34:54):
is it about? Only like certain sports, for instance, women's
tennis is one of those sports that does well viewership.
People are in people like it, people watch pre this
Williams Sisters, people watch during the run of The Williams Sisters,
and people are watching posts and somebody like yourself, because
we know you don't miss a WNBA game, just curious,

(35:15):
what is it about that? Specifically? I like tennis period.
I played for a year or so in high school.
Like I just I like tennis. But I'm asking you
why would you watch that, or at least I'm assuming
you would, but maybe not a WNBA game.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
W The style of play just doesn't interest me in
a WNBA. It just doesn't. I've watched basketball my whole life.
You know, as I talked to you before, Caitlin was
just something different, you know what I mean. And I've
just seen the Hotland. I'm not gonna sit there and
tell you I watch games I haven't. You know what
I mean at the WNBA, And I'm not mad at it.

(35:49):
I was a guy who, as I told you before,
when I moved to Detroit, I went to thirty eight
of the Red Wings forty one home games my first year.
I mean seriously, when I was married and living in Queens,
my wife and I had a partial season ticket package
to the Islanders.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Like like, I went to games right the WNBA.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Wasn't her to go to don game?

Speaker 1 (36:13):
I didn't forced she's from Detroit. I didn't force her
to go, but she liked to go. Actually, that's the
one thing she did like not at home. She didn't
want to watch it on TV.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
But if we were.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Going out, you know what I mean, in the game
or whatever, she was with it. Yeah, So I don't know.

Speaker 6 (36:27):
And certain things like if I added women's gymnastics to this,
it's huge during the Olympics, like huge, The people love
it and can't wait. They're clamoring for we know all
the stars were all lateby four years.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
Yeah, I mean I get that. I do.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
I really do, more so than some other stuff, you know,
because it doesn't happen often, so you kind of gear
up for it. Who's who's back, the storylines, you know
those things, because that doesn't happen often.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (36:54):
I was just watching Cocoa goff and I was thinking
about that, which, by the way, I hope we got
a nice little rivalry brewing there because they Sabelinka tried
to play like, oh, it wasn't you, it was me.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
I was making forest airs.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
Ain't nobody thinking about it, like oh okay, Like I
like that.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (37:09):
And then of course you had the finals and the
men's as well, which was uh, which ended up being
five and a half hours, which was good too.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
But I was just thinking about that. I was watching.

Speaker 6 (37:17):
I was remembering some conversations you and I had, and
I think a lot of people will feel the same way.
If I was like, oh, let's watch this Serena Williams
finals match, you'd watch that. But I was like, let's
go watch this Sparks Links game. They're like, no, I'm
gonna pass on that.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Yeah, I'm ana pass on that.

Speaker 6 (37:31):
Speaking of the links, I'm about to go put some
links on the grill right now, some chicken wings, some
some some brats on the on the grill right now.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
That's what I'm getting ready to go to do. Good brother,
what you about to do?

Speaker 1 (37:39):
Grab me some fish, a salad, and lose two more
pounds tonight?

Speaker 2 (37:43):
What's her name? Tell us?
