(01:08):
radio shows got views.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Well, if they're lucky, they'll get up word of four hundred. Okay,
I'm just saying I see some big numbers. Something Okay, tomorrow,
it might.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Be that that have you seen that Kelvin the which
one was that Alex the yesdy Lebron Lebron retired. They
might they might go up to one hundred thousand winds,
which is crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Coming up, man.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Larry Junes says, numbers, trust me, hip hop fans, nobody numbers.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Coming up in twenty eight minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Johnny Avello, director uh race and sportsbook operations at Draftking.
So we will definitely talk with Johnny Avello, who I
go back thirty years was on my original radio show
back in the day, back in Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
I still can't believe that's still like.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
You somehow, Nobody, nobody else who's been around me for
a long time is the likely long term.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yes, old up uh man, all right, Well that I'm
looking forward to conversation with him and talking about some
trying to, you know, talk some money with him. What
the lines are out there, Rob, I was thinking about
it watching the NBA playoffs. Now that we kind of
got some of the teams that are out, we still
got some teams obviously that are still going competing right now.
So I'm looking at this as there's a group of

(02:30):
guys who are ringless who remain in the NBA finals.
Who I believe are in NBA playoffs that or ring
would do something for their career, or maybe it's not.
Maybe believe they got time. So for instance, maybe it's
aunt Jah, he's twenty four to twenty five. Hea, we
finally's got plenty of time. SGA has got plenty of time.
Maybe it's Jalen Brunton. What could that do for New York?

(02:53):
You got cat Towns, you got Donovan Mitchell. Then you
got some interesting ones as well, guys who've been in
the league for some time but they're still ringless. I'm
looking at James Harden, Russell Westbrook also who was the
other one I had, James Tarred and Russell Westbrook.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Jimmy Butler as well, been to a couple of finals,
took the heat there, tried his best, but hasn't been
able to do it.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
Just out of com of some of those guys. Think
about who it would be for you?

Speaker 1 (03:20):
For me, I think the answer and I thought about
there's a couple guys I looked at, but ultimately came
down to James Harden. I think James Harden, who played
incredible last night for the Clippers. I think it was
twenty eight points for him. Got hot really early and
they made it. You could tell they made it a
focal point. They being Tyrone Lou to really get him
active and going. The reason I say is Harden. James Harden,

(03:43):
for a long time was an annual MVP candidate. Some
people feel he was robbed of a couple There was
an eight year period where he was one of the
greatest offensive weapons I've ever seen in my entire life
of watching the NBA. I love this sport, as you know,
I'm a fan, and I'm not saying he's the greatest score.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
I'm saying greatest weapon.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
You're talking about assist scoring, just controlling a game, tempo's
getting to the free throw line, step back threes where
he's really one of the really ones who kind of
elevated that the eurostep. Obviously guys have been doing it
for years, but he kind of elevated that.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
He was amazing to see for so long.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
However, James Harden has had playoff shortcomings playoffs where you say,
did he get tired, he disappeared, he didn't show up,
what was going on. It's incredible big game, absolutely big
games where usually e could though, Luca's gonna show Lebron,
Kobe shat whatever, these steph whatever.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
You guys.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
What was that Houston team, Calvin when they missed twenty
seven straight?

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Was twenty seven straight threes?

Speaker 1 (04:44):
He had bad games were where you know, against this
when he was with the Rockets against the Spurs, and
remember Jenobii block blocked his last second shot to try
to win it. When he was in the NBA Finals
with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now he was young and
he was a sixth man, but he didn't uh, he
didn't perform well there either.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
So for me, my answer is James Harden.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
This he's a Hall of Famer first ballot, one of
the best players of his generation. But for him to
have that ability to become a champion, to have that
ability to finally have that moment where he can hold
the trophy over his head and not be a guy
who's you know, a tenth man on the team just
hanging on, you know, but this year is still one
of the guys on this team. It's Kawhi, it's him,

(05:24):
you know. Obviously Norman pob playing well, but he's still
their guy. James Harden, this is your year. Ride the
cotails of Kawhi, but also still do your thing. I
think he would benefit the most from winning a championship
this year from the guys who are still ringless.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Who you got see, I'm gonna push back on that pick. Okay,
they if they win, it's gonna be about Kawhi winning.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Maybe it will be.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
It will be about Kawhi because he's gonna be in
the mix.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
He's going to wind up, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Like unless James Harden, James Harden will balls out and
he's the Finals m v P. Like, seriously, who's going
to get the most credit if if the Clippers win?

Speaker 5 (06:07):
I don't think.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
But I don't think he needs to be finals MVP.
He just needs to be really good. But I'm saying
if he's Davis to Lebron in the bubble, you know
what I mean, where Lebron got it but Ad played
balled out, then I think that still goes.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
See.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I don't think.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I don't think James is going to I don't think
it's a bad thing. Don't get me wrong now that
if he wins a championship, but I don't think it
changes what people think because when he was that dude,
he couldn't get it done.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
And then to have Kawhi.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
There with him, and he's played without Kawhi, you know
what I mean, and and and it didn't work out.
And that's why I think Kawhi would get most of
the credit. It would be great for James Harden, but
it wouldn't change who he is to people.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Do you get what.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
James Harden is a man? No?

Speaker 3 (06:54):
No, it would be like, oh, that's nice at the
end of his career, is able to get a championship.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
But I just think that.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Because that's like Gary Payton. Can I say that Gary Payton?
I think in Miami.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
He's still better than Gary was at that point and
get point absolutely. I just think for him to have
that monkey off his back to kind of be able
to look KD Steph.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Why do we make that drug reference. I don't understand.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I get the monkey office, but I don't know it
was maybe it was a lot of drugs going on
the sixties and seventies.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Rob Oh, yeah, that's where it comes from.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
I know.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
But to get that monkey off his back, man, and
just for me to just be able to look like
I said, Steph and Draymond and Lebron and KD and
you know Joannest kind of the guys, his ill kids,
his peers, his contemporaries, and say, I got one too,
and I was a big time cogging that thing. Not
just you know, twelfth Man clapping on the bench and

(07:45):
street clothes. No, I was the second best player on
a championship team. I think that would go vote well
for him. Who you got anybody, I mean, what else
anybody else out there? I got another guy who was
thinking you might like to but I think Harden for
me legacy wise, but I gotta know when I'll throw
at you in the second year.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Yeah, I just think SGA and those guys, no one's like,
oh my god, they have to win, you know what
I mean? And if they don't. And the same thing
with Butler. I mean, he's been around, he's had a
couple of chances. Unless again, the only way to me
it's a big deal for Butler is if he's the
MVP and he's puts on a fantastic performance, do you

(08:23):
know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (08:24):
And then you say where he did it?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
And what helped Kevin Durant was that Kevin Durant went
to the Warriors, but he was the finals MVP those
two championship.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Don't tell other people because they act like he was
just a man.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
It is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, Like
the way they they choked down a three to one
and then he beats Lebron might have two more championships
if he didn't go to the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
See, dude, we could do an entire two hour show
on that right there. How that changed so many people's legacies.
Lebron might have six, Steph might only have one, maybe two,
and it looked It's just yeah, that was a massive thing.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
I want to let me throw this one out at you.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
This one you might be like, I might get you
to scratch of hair on your chinny chin chin with
this one. Specifically, this season, if Jalen Brunson was able
to win one with New York and New York for
the Knicks, down Trodden hadn't won since the seventies A championship.
He's obviously one of the better players in the league.
Mister clutch Player of the Year this year. If for

(09:27):
some strange reason, he dragged like Dirko Dirko, like Dirk
did to the Miami Heat, and if Jalen Brunson weren't
able to drag the Knicks teams to a finals and
win one for some reason, he just did this miraculous
run that would be so huge for his legacy to

(09:47):
not only win it, but win it ball out unexpected.
It is not like you were one of the teams
we thought would do it and you did it. For
the Knicks, that would be huge. And I just thought, man,
Jalen brunts and that would be massive if he were
able to just you know, like I said, a dirt
team or one of those Lebron teams, or you know,
one of those years where guys kind of dragged the

(10:09):
team that we didn't necessarily think we'll be able to
do it, and that would be amazing.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
If Jalen Brunson did.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
That, that would that would be fair because of the
history and the Knicks, even one since nineteen seventy three
or since Moby Dick was a guppy or whatever you
want to call it, and nobody's expecting him. He knocks
out the Celtics and then you know, continues on and
wins a championship. I mean a long Nick fans have
been dying people have been waiting so.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Long, hard waiting my life.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I can die now, I mean you know that.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah, when the Cubs won after one hundred something years,
I remember the old guys in the stands holding up signs,
you know, like I can I can die now, you know.

Speaker 5 (10:48):
What I mean. It was like wow, like it was
it was.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
It was cool to see because people do that.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Like I think all sports fans say that, can I
see my team just win one? And I know that's
where Lions fans are going, Yes, am I right? Like
like just want I just want one day my team
wins and I get to see what that's like and
all that experiences.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
And that's the frustrating part. But that's a good one.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Brunton, I think that I think he supersedes uh George Harden, Yeah,
because I think Kawhi would get the both of that.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
That would be that would be incredible for him to
do that.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
And then you know, yeah, the other guys I think
again s g A and you know some of these
young guys they have time to get to I think
we all believe, hey, you know, even if they were
to lose or fall this year, uh, they'd have a shot. Yeah,
we can throw that out though to people you know,
I gave you a list of some pokes Anthony Edwards,
s Ga, kat and Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Jimmy Butler, James Harden,

(11:45):
Russell Westbrook, some guys out there that we've known and
know for a little bit they haven't won yet. Who
do you feel like this would be great for them
to win their legacy men in the NBA title this year?
We can that We can definitely hear from you eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 5 (12:03):
See who folks got in that?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
All right, let's do it on this Funky Flashback Friday,

(12:50):
the Robinson hey Man, there's a handful of guys who
could benefit from winning an NBA Finals that can help
their legacy. Maybe they're the middle of the career guys
towards the end. Maybe some upstarts change the trajectory of
a franchise throughout. A couple of names, I said Harden,
I said, Jalen Brunton, who win for New York will
be crazy, especially the way he's been playing lately.

Speaker 5 (13:10):
What do you have out there?

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox, we're taking some calls. Let's go
out to Greg in Florida. Greg, you'reing with the odd
couple Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
Hey Greg, how are you?

Speaker 7 (13:28):
Hey, I'm good, I'm good. Hi guys, great show, great show.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Thank you, thank you. You know what, Greg, We appreciate
when you say that. It means a lot throughout no doubt.

Speaker 7 (13:40):
Hey, it's the truth. It's the gospel. Listen. Okay, yeah, hardened,
great shooter, good all around player. But listen, the guy
has been on six different teams throughout the league, and

(14:00):
I'm leaning towards you know, Jimmy Buckets. You know, he
was faithful in Philadelphia, faithful in Miami, and he's just
you know, a difference maker at Golden State, and he's dedicated,
and I think, you know, he really deserves a shock.

Speaker 8 (14:22):
I'm not mad at.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
That, Greg, but you have you got a Minnesota, Philly, Miami,
Chicago Warriors.

Speaker 5 (14:29):
He got some teams on the resume too.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
I'm gonna say his resume, his dance card is pretty
philled too.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
And here's the other thing too.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
If the Warriors would have win, I'm sorry, Steph is
going to overshadow Jimmy.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
I mean won't.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
It won't be that Jimmy won't get any credit. You
have to be the MVP and ball out. But it'll
be Steph has got one more championship than Lebron. That's
what the story would be.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
All right, let's keep it over for go down Dre
Andre in Massachusetts. Dre, you're over the O couple of
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 7 (14:58):
What up, Dre, Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 9 (15:01):
Happy Friday? Thanks for taking the call. I'm going to
concur with the previous call of Jimmy Buckets Playoff Jimmy
is the one that came to my mind first based
on the fact that he's been there. He's a proven
winner so far as James harden Is concerns for all
the regular seasons that you know, and you know the
MVP so one and fourth, I haven't seen it and
we haven't seen it.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
But what is what is Jimmy want Andre? You say
he's a proven winner? What does he won?

Speaker 9 (15:27):
Rob he took Miami to two NBA finals?

Speaker 3 (15:30):
He took them or did they win? I'm asking you
said he's a proven winner. He hasn't won anything.

Speaker 9 (15:36):
Yes, but he's gotten into that last round, into the
finals round where.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
You know, yeah, but I get that. But I'm just saying,
you know, you said it with confidence.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
I don't think he's a proven winner because he hasn't
won the Ultimate prize. He's a hell of a Jimmy
Buckets in and playoff Jimmy and all that.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
I'm not disputing any of that.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
I'm not but to say he's a proven winner when
he hasn't won, I don't think that that's legit.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
I think one thing if Dre, I I mean, I
think the big thing is the opposite Jimmy effect of
James Harden effect, meaning we know Harden goes down to
the postseason, Jimmy goes up in the postseason.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
So I'll give him credit for that.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
He hasn't won anything, but at least you can kind
of say I know I'm gonna get the best version
of you then, whereas James Harden, unfortunately, I.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Get that, I get it.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
I'm just saying to say he's a proven winner when
he hasn't won, it doesn't make sense.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
All right, Dre appreciate the call.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Brother as always, Let's keep it going here eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
Let's go to seven.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
That's right seven and Montana seven year on with the
Oat couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 10 (16:40):
Yeah sure, I'm actually call me Seattle seven because I'm
from Seattle. Sonics for life, but from there and even evenly,
the Spurs were always one of the greatest teams. As symbol,
I was always the word to come to me would
be adapted with them, guys, they adapted off these years

(17:01):
and the player that should get MVP or gets handed
down that that was involved in all the great games
and chevies. Come on, man, how come nobody's taking my guy? Seriously?
Russell Westbrook to be in the top three of being
handed down with his consistency regardless, and and what's they
being bounced around a lot of teams is because everybody

(17:24):
got him to win a Champions showed because he was
the best person out there. So whatever player bounced around,
that's why they.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
Bounce Mercenary, I'll give you that.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
He's because but he went on. He was on like
four teams in three years.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
That's the problem.

Speaker 10 (17:40):
Yeah, and a great, a great contributor to uh shoot,
I mean just in the mix, man, the winner is
Kawhi Leonard, hands down, Kawhi Leonard winner. That just a
hands down the quiet giant. The guy is the most
deserving of anyone in the existence of the other thing.
He's the Jackie Robinson of of that that.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Might that might be humble, Okay, said Jackie Jackie. Alright
seven with that Uh with that comment, we might have
to call you eleven because I don't know about that
seven eleven with that one, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Let's go to uh, let's take another one here, Paul
and Nebraska.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
Paul, you're on with the cup of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 11 (18:24):
Who you got, Hey, what's up, fellas? I appreciate you both.
It might have to change after that call.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
I know you're right, he might have a demera. You
have to take him down a notch. I think you're right.

Speaker 11 (18:35):
Poor no. I was listening you guys. I'm out walking
my dog and I and I heard about the hardened comparisoner,
just a hardened the thought on his career as it
kind of winds down, he's playing at a high level
one to get your guys thoughts on his former teammate
Russell Westbrook. To me, it kind of seems like he's
done the exact opposite to his career three or four
years ago. He was a shoe in Hall of Famer,

(18:56):
like he was being introduced as Switcher Hall of Famer.
Oh there's the dog of Paul Jez Good.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
First of all, is he.

Speaker 11 (19:02):
Still a Hall of Famer? Second? What do you guys
think about that? In the context of the hard and discussion.
I'll hang up and listen. Not fair.

Speaker 6 (19:08):
I appreciate you both, Thank you well.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
You can't run the Hall of Fame yourself, by the way,
you can't like un hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
You know what I mean he did something that the
triple double thing is gonna be cement him. Yeah, and
then isn't he in the top seventy five or whatever?

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Oh yeah, he stops seventy five.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Uh you start to look at his numbers as he's
gonna play solong that he'll accumulate, he'll be high on
so many lists.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
He's seventy five, it's gonna be hard to deny him.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, and I and I totally think he
did well deserved.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
I mean, Russell Westbroog has had a remarkable career and
I'm not gonna let the last few years of bouncing
around the team the team and had a bad experience
with the Lakers. He just looks solid with the Clippers.
Mostly he's been solid with the Nuggets. Uh, you know,
he was solid on a terrible team with the Wizards.
But uh yeah, I'm not gonna you can't. Like there's
so many guys that we think high we forget the

(20:01):
last few years, like the idea that you know, Patrick
Ewing was a sonic, that Hakeem Olajuwon was a raptor,
like you know what I mean, Like there's some guys
who were like, wait, what like we forget about the
last few years of people. Bob mcadouo was on everybody's
team at the end of his career, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
And I'm so old. I remember when he played for
the Buffalo Braves. How about that.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
When he was getting it, when he was the man exactly,
So you know it happens.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
We're guys. Once you play past.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Honestly, Rob, you know this, Once you played past like
ten twelve years, dude, that's an incredible career. In the
last three, four, five might be, you know, role player, serviceable,
role player, but it's all about to me, your seven
eight year, nine year peak.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
That's to me, the core of the juxt of the conversation.
You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
When you did, you're breaking down a Hall of Fame career.
But he's I think Harden. If you're asking between the two,
I think Harden had the better career. You know, he
edged him out in that regard.

Speaker 2 (20:56):

this day and age, people advertisers or whatever want to
jump in on stuff. How did the Kentucky Derby not
have the nickname Kentucky Fried Chicken Derby?

Speaker 5 (21:44):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (21:44):
As a sponsor?

Speaker 6 (21:47):
Wellf some money there you go?

Speaker 5 (21:53):
Nice?

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Oh are you, Johnny?

Speaker 6 (21:55):
I'm great, guys. Thanks a lot, Rob, Good to talk
to you again. It's been a while.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
It has just thirty years, that's all right, nineteen ninety four,
so that's actually twenty.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
One, Johnny. You see the jokes are still the same, Johnny.
You see that thirty years later, Johnny, We've been talking
a lot of the NBA right now with the Lakers out,
did that change anything?

Speaker 5 (22:20):
And maybe who the odds favorite were were you're talking about.
Let's just maybe people will put money down on them, right.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
Yeah, Well, we had to get rid of those Lakers
out of our future book, guys, because the Lakers are
bet each and every year and we usually do have
a hazard on him during the year, but this was
a really big hazard this year, especially when he went
out and got the trade and then the betters kept
piling on him. So we were not in a good
situation with the Lakers. So happy, I'm kind of happy

(22:49):
they're going Sorry.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
I understand.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
What about the Nixon Pistons, Like some radio guy won
a pair of Jordan's because he took the Nicks in
the series, and the other radio guy took the Pistons.
We won't mention his name, Calvin, But anyway, where was
the money bet on that? I know a lot of
Detroit people will get jacked up about their team. They
do a lot of money on the Lions. Was there
a lot of money on the Pistons? Because people kept

(23:13):
telling me the Pistons were gonna win the series and
I kept telling them they weren't.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Where was that money in your area? There was a
lot of money on them? But not national wise. In
New York area. Yes, there was a lot of money
on the next and actually in some other jurisdictions too,
because the Knicks are a pretty popular team. Now, guys,
you can't take anything away from that team. I mean,
Detroit had a tremendous year. Just to just go back

(23:40):
to last year and then look at this year, I mean,
what a turnaround. So they did a great job and
hopefully you know they'll do another great job next year.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Yeah, obviously big turnaround when you're looking at thirty games
for going from fourteen to forty four.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
Let's go, Let's go to the Eastern Conference.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
They are there with the the Celtics now getting ready
to play the Knicks. Stay with the New York fans.
Are they going crazy and say, hey, it's our year.
We can even beat the ranting champs, the Celtics.

Speaker 6 (24:10):
They, I mean the diehards think they can get the
job done. I mean we open up the Celtics eight
and a half point favorite in Game one, the totals
two fifteen and a half bet down to two fourteen
and a half, and the series price is Celtics minus
seven fifty. So, like I said, yes, the pure Nick
fans think they can get the job done, but the
fans from Massachusetts said, no, that's not going to happen.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
And as we go forward here tonight the Golden State
Houston game, most people think they're going to force a
game seven or people were pretty heavy on a Golden
State the experienced team to knock them out and get.

Speaker 6 (24:48):
It done with a little bit. We opened the game five,
we close five and a half. They did bet that
total over. You know after the Warriors the last game,
that was just not a good game at all, terri
It's terrible. So you know, how do you come back?
Do they come back from that tonight? I don't know.
I mean I I wouldn't have a lot of confidence
in I'm surely to cover that number. So uh yeah,

(25:10):
we we had a good split action on that. We
were a little heavy und words, but we did have
good split action.

Speaker 5 (25:17):
Uh. I want to go to some other teams too.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
This Warriors Houston Rockets has been a really good series
right now.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
Rockets obviously just blew them out.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
What are you looking at is age and experience maybe
getting favored right now versus the athleticism and youth.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
When folks wanted to put their money on something in
that series.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
That's pretty much the way you have to size that
series up. You know, you've got he's certainly got three
experienced players on the Warriors against a team that's you know,
on the uptick, and you know, does experience went out sometimes?
But uh, you know sometimes that experience gets old sometimes
that that group of guys that are playing together sometimes

(25:57):
that just not doesn't work anymore. Out of work have
made some changes, don't get me wrong. They don't have
the same team that they had, but it still feels
like the same old Warrior team, doesn't it.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
I mean, well Steph gets going, and obviously them getting
Jimmy Butler's huge.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
He's kind of added some life into them.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
But if you're the Rockets, maybe they still feel like
they can find a way to get this thing done.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
Well, you'll wait and see.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
The national I mean NBA fans, where are they on
the Minnesota Timberwolves. I like them against the Lakers the
whole way. I thought they would win this series. But
now that they've beaten the Lakers, or are people starting
to bet money or thinking that this could be a
surprise team.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
They almost made it to the finals a year ago.

Speaker 6 (26:38):
They do like them because the odds on them to
win it are quite They were quite high and they're
still not bad. So you know, you could have got
them at you know, fifty to one, just not too
long ago before the series, so there has been some
money on them. People want to take a shot with
something lucrative odds. Who wants to bet the favorite all
the time?

Speaker 5 (26:58):
Right?

Speaker 6 (26:58):
You want to want to bet something where you could
make a nice cash in exactly.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
And any other thing you're seeing right now? You know
what we can even ask you about Kentucky Derby?

Speaker 5 (27:10):
Is there any other things? People?

Speaker 1 (27:11):
I don't I'm not even gonna pretend I think I
heard there's a horse called Journalism or something.

Speaker 6 (27:16):
Did I hear that Journalism? He's a good horse. He's
the he's the favorite, not a real small favorite, at
least at this point. We'll see what happens tomorrow. You
guys do know that it's raining in Kentucky and go
continue to rain all day tomorrow, so they're gonna be
running on a muddy track a lot of water, and

(27:38):
that changes the whole complexion of the race. So we'll see.
I mean, this race, this is Kentucky Derby there's twenty
horses in the field. I think there's nineteen now. And
you know, when you come out of a starting gate
and you don't get a clean break, that's a problem.
If you get mud kicked in your face, that's a problem.
If you get pinned along the reil, that's a problem.

(27:59):
To get hung outside, that's a problem. So it's a
tough race to run. And most these horses are never
going to run in a race like this again, with
this many horses this far, and the conditions tomorrow are
going to be ugly. So so yeah, I mean there's
a couple of shorter price horses and then there's some
real long shots and this might be one of those
days where maybe he's just stretch out and pick some

(28:21):
numbers and hopefully get lucky.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
Can I give you real quick?

Speaker 3 (28:27):
My grandfather used to used to play the horses at
OTB and he used to take me and let me
pick horses and stuff. But my first real introduction into
horse racing and the rain was at the shoe store
I worked at in Queen's and Richie Fassonella used to
play the horses and he came in one day and
I supposed to rain that day and he goes he

(28:49):
got everybody at the shoe store to put money in
and he said, Sonora Bob.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Loves the rain.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Is this goes back to when I'm sixteen or seventeen
years old, but I still remember that, and that was
his claim, Sonora Bob loves the rain.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
His horse loves the rain.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
And guess what, he won the race and everybody at
the shoe store made money.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
I'll never forget that day.

Speaker 6 (29:11):
That's nice, and you know that's that is actually a
good strategy. Unfortunately, these are three year old horses. Some
of them only had four or five six starts, some less.
And there's not a bunch of them that have ever
run on an off.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Track or have a track record. I got you.

Speaker 6 (29:29):
Yeah, so there's only a couple that have So we don't. Yeah,
we don't. Probably Sonora Bob or whatever the horse.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
Was, I still remember that name, Sonora Bob, because I made.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
Money off him.

Speaker 6 (29:41):
That's fantastic. And he was probably a little older horse
and probably he did have that, you know, track record
of running in the off track, and that does hold true.

Speaker 10 (29:49):
Guys.

Speaker 6 (29:50):
I mean, if horses run good on they like that.
They liked that feeling on their feet and uh, you know,
I like it's like it's a fun day for them
raining and you've got mud on the it's little kids.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
All right, Well, there you have it, Rob, you might
would have put some money down since you having some
uh some flashbacks, some memories. You never know, go ahead
and put a one hundred down on something to see
if you can win.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Johnny. We appreciate your.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
Time, Johnny, Thank you, buddy, appreciate you.

We got Let's go to Trevor in Utah. Trevor, you're
the last call in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
What's up, trave.

Speaker 8 (32:12):
Long term listener, just gotta say, it is rough watching
Donovan Mitchell just dominate for the Cavaliers coming from Utah Jazz.
We developed him, Man, it is rough, but hey, we
got a fourteen per chance of getting Cooper Flagg.

Speaker 7 (32:32):
Pray.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
Hey, that would be it.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
He would fit in right in there in Utah. Utah
would have a field day when they would love that.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
Are you kidding?

Speaker 2 (32:42):
Yes? No?

Speaker 8 (32:42):
Right, yeah, yeah right, long time listener, love you guys,
have a good night.

Speaker 5 (32:47):
Thank you, appreciate you. Man. Are you feeling are you
feeling nice? You want to squeeze in one more?

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Yeah, let's do that. That's a Friday night.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
DJ.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
We weren't gonna let you win, but Alex said, heck no, man,
goe lead him. Man, DJ, you're the last call I
think for real this time, maybe maybe not.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
Turn your radio down. DJ, you're on blew it. We
gave your he blew it. Alex. You were right, you
called it.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Man.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Hey, we only got a couple more minutes, real quick,
rob Uh, there's the thought process out there. Uh that
if you've seen the picture of Steph Curry's thumb. It's swollen,
it's lumpy, it looks bad, and it's on the shooting hand.
I believe it was, and so, uh, you have conversations.
They asked Dylan Brooks about it, like, hey, are you
guys targeting it?

Speaker 5 (33:42):
Are you aware of it?

Speaker 1 (33:44):
And he basically said, hey, man, I'm playing ball, and
you know, if I had a bad ankle, guys will
go at me my ankle.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
If I bumped the thumb on whatever it is. I
think Steph Curry got that bad thumb. He put his
thumb in an apple pie or something. I think that's
what happened.

Speaker 5 (33:59):
Is that what it is? Man?

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Isn't that it apple pile? You put a thumb in
it or something? No, I don't know that one. But
is Alex keep your job six years that I'm just saying,
is that is that fair play? I think I think
it's part of the game. I think it's I think
Steph Curry would admit it's just part of the game.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
You know, when you've got unless you unless you're intentionally
trying to about banging with a hammer or something, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
But if you're playing and he's.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Got that thumb, that's on you you're you're injured, go
sit down, if you're in so much pain.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
Yeah, I think that that's what I don't think he's
gonna complain about. I think he knows like guys are
gonna you know, you're going a whole and they were
gonna file you anyway, Well I might as well file
that hand, you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (34:40):
Or if I'm gonna take this file there, I'm gonna
do that.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
If I'm gonna gotta grab you a little bit, if
you're trying to run around screens, I'm gonna make sure
I grab that hand a little bit. So yeah, I
mean that's just part of it. Happens in all sports.
When football players know, you know, some guys got a
rough rib, banged up rib, they're gonna take it to
him a little extra, you know. It just it's part
of the game. And I think all players and all
athletes in every sport, I think they know that.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
You shot at the score, Houston.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
Well shoot at last I saw they were thirty they're
up thirty four.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Okay, yeah I didn't see that yet.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
We have no I mean, listen, they're a really really
good team. They can't shoot the ball well that they.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Can win this series.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
Though.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
If they win this game, I'm serious.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
I think they're the better team. I just think they
the experience factor. I think Jalen Green doesn't really really
grasp how good he is. He's still so young. I
think they're the better team. I mean, my gosh, they're
a deep roster for sure. I mean when Fred van
Vliet is just like, you know, a guy, and you
got I'm and Thompson who's gonna be one of the
best players in the league in a few years. And
you got Jalen Green who doesn't know how good he ish.

(35:39):
Goon is an All Star, Jabari Smith is a junior,
is a really good player.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
I mean Steven Adams, like, I mean not Steven Adams, Yeah,
Steven Adams.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Right.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah, They're a loaded team, man. So it's not surprising.
I think a lot of people thought this. It's just
they had to kind of get their feet settled in
and realize, yo, you're here, you deserve to be here
and go play. Plus, the Warriors are banged up, man,
Jimmy's playing, but you know these guys are banged up.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
I'm gonna call it. I'm gonna call it.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
I'm picking the Rockets to win this, win game six
and seven, and all the old guys will be out
of the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
We'd be hanging on the hard and I guess if
we're counting him.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
Yeah, but I'm just saying, like Lebron and Steph you
know what I.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
Mean, make it?

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Yeah, I know what you mean. Yeah, they're the better team.
That's so this would be a big way. But it's
still it's still early though, cause you's got a big weekend.
Are you going shopping this weekend? Foot lock or anything
like that?

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Or yeah, my daughters needs to be soccer shoes. What No,
I'm talking about what you mean? What I need?

Speaker 10 (36:38):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (36:39):
Oh, oh you bad. I didn't realize you were talking
about you. Man, don't worry about much.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
I'm gonna have my shoes on Monday because I'm gonna
cry if they're not there when I shot.

Speaker 5 (36:47):
Where can I get them? Do we know? Do we
know what those specifics? See? Now, I gotta go look around.
You better send me an order walking around it. That's right.
You go have some fun, man, come back with at
least fifties.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon is coming up next.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
I never miss your radio show I never hear it,
so I never miss it.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
Did you hear that
