Roger Goodell making his round to promote the upcoming NFL
season with kicks off in about twenty three hours from
now when the Eagles take on to Cowboys, and in
any event, he was on the Today Show.

During the conversation, he was asked about the idea of
an eighteen game regular season.

Listen, we always say what do the fans want? What
are the fans really think is important? And I think
it's clear they want more regular season game versus preseason games,
and it's something that we'll work through with the players Association.
We continue to make our game safer, and I think
that's hit the core of making that kind of a decision.
Can we do it safely for our players? But it

also I think represents an opportunity for us to continue
to bring higher quality NFL content Ultimately in a regular
season game is clearly better.

You mentioned giving the fans what they want.

As you've probably heard by now, a lot of NFL
fans would love to not have to go to work
the day after the super.

Bowl under the Craik always takes them Monday off. But
America wants to as well.

Correct what point do we start to see the super.

Bowl on President's Day weekend?

I think if you went to eighteen weeks regular season,
that would probably occur. Okay, is possible somewhere in the
calendar could happen before that, just because of the calendar
the way it lays out. But I think eighteen weeks
would get you to that point, and I think it
would be a great, a really great move.

It's the biggest non factor I've ever heard, like this
whole idea that you need a day off or Monday
after the super Bowl. Do you know what time the
super Bowl kicks off? If you live here in Los
Angeles three o'clock. What time does Sunday Night Football come
on every Sunday eight o'clock Eastern? Right, and people go

to work on Monday. You don't need no holiday. What holiday?
This is the NF and these fan like the NFL
trying to make themselves more special or more important than
they really are.

Really a national holiday.

It has to be so that people could be off
on Monday, and they don't have to after the super Bowl.
The super Bowl starts at six o'clock, which is earlier
than Sunday Night Football six o'clock.

Even if the game went till ten o'clock. You can't
go to bed. You can't want You can't have a
couple of pops and some chicken wings and get up
and go to work. Come on, man, this is where
the NFL and people think it's bigger than it really is.
Nothing's changed here. I keep here the national holiday, the

super Bowl. It's a Sunday, it's in the winter. You're
not going anywhere. We're just eating chicken wings and drinking
a couple of beers. My god, no, no way, no how.
We don't need it to go to President's Day so
that you could go Oh super Bowl.

Why why do we have to overinflate stuff and make
it like you would be doing the people of this
country a service? Because my god, they gotta get up

to get the fans that they need. Rob's I've never
heard the fans talk about an eighteen game. I've never

would respect if the people there at NBC said to him, Roger,

Be honest, isn't this eighteenth game?

Because you can sell a regular season game more than
you sell a preseason game, which is local television and
not on national.

Isn't this about money? It's a this about money?

And then you followed up with whatever he says with,
come on, what about the health? That's an additional game
because we all know preseason games, nobody's playing that hard
and they're not trying to hurt. You know, everybody's trying
to make it out alive. A real regular season game.
This is cost to me to get the chance to
get to the postseason, get the playoffs, and get to
the super Bowl. So guys are all in. It's a
whole different thing. So health clearly went out the windows.

Just about that money ground, money ground, and we know that.
And this is where so we went from fourteen to
sixteen used to be seven twelve. That's why man twelve, fourteen, sixteen,
seventeen looks like eighteen?

How long before twenty? You know what I'm like, when
does it stop? Right?

And that's what made the game beautiful is the scarcity.
You know every game matters. You know, every week matters.
We're all in twenty games is coming up before you

Let us get a Monday off. It's everybody doesn't have
seventy two days off, like you just went on the
world trip around the world.

people are trying to get what they want to get

into new ones.

They already have what all the holidays. People get off
enough already.

eighteenth game, we can slide the super Bowl to presidents
they get the holiday.

Wants you, yeah, make it another week, like, you know,
another bye week. I really want to do another week,
get it. There's a way to do that without that.
But that eighteenth game is crucial for him. And that's
the thing about it, man. The players need to stand
up if they really don't want it. Man up, you
don't want to and the quarterback players gonna stand up.
They can't even get healthcare and a pension plan.

and say even my you know I got Patrick.

you know in eighteen games, you know, we don't want

We love this so all you gotta do is your
Patrick Mahomes and one of these guys. They could play
eighteen games. I'm playing playing eighteen games this contract. You
get enough players to say that what you got Okay,
I'm not playing eighteen.

And I hate how he tried to use the preseason.

say they wanted more games. They just said if I
asked you, which one would you rather watch?

twenty games. That's just simply means real football is more
important than I'd rather watch.

Well, now that they don't even play in the preseason,
why would I want to watch it? They used to
play in the preseason. Yes, come on, that's the difference.
That's why nobody wants to watch it. They don't play.

favorite quarterback play the first half and charged me one
hundred outs for parking. Oh, they I want to talk
about that. They want to talk about preseason. Same thag
on price same season.

and I get it because they play quarterback and they

He gotta control. NFL doesn't need to have the game
on Chris on President's Day, but they do need eighteen games.
That's certainly inevitable. Eighteen games, has to say, and that's
where they've been going. Frankly, Uh, why why eighteen games?

Because it's all about the mighty dollars. Roger Goodell has
his mind locked in on a twenty five billion dollar
annual evaluation. That's what he's getting to. By the way,
that's why Roger Goodell has a private jit for life
within his contracts because the money keeps going up. So
I think in terms of just.

But what killed me about that?
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Seriously, and I'm being honest, it ain't just Roger Goodell. Dude,
I don't care who was in that job. Football gambling,
you're going to do well. I'm dead serious. Like they
could pay him whatever they want, and I get it.
He's the CEO of this big company. But it ain't
like he's a game change. He's a game changer. He
made something different, like gambling and football go hand in hand.

Taking, but again just in terms of eighteen and he's
just moving that way, and Rob, you're consistent on this,
and it needs to be if the players, if the
NFL players will take a step back, which they've never done,
and say, look, it has to get to eighteen games.
We know it's going to get there, and hold the line.
They could get so much for themselves, all right, but

it's just a case study for the NFL players. But
then just workers and you know that standing together, and
so they're gonna end up getting steamrolled, getting petty privileges
in the deal, and then there'll be eighteen games and
nothing really much will change, uh, in terms of the
financial structure.

want eighteen games. I want guaranteed contracted.

And then the second thing is, if we're gonna do
eighteen games, you start to water down the significance of
the games. You know, when we had sixteen, they were
that much more important. When you look over at basketball
with eighty two games, then all of a sudden, those
games just really aren't that important. Early on in the season,
you start to water them down, and you know, if
you're going to have that many games, you probably need
to increase the roster. The roster what is it quantity?

I guess, yeah, yeah, number fifty three to maybe sixty
three or something.

Yeah, because of the injuries.

Yeah, and you know what else are going to happen.

I was certainly surprised. I was hearing from Micah's camp
at the beginning of the off season that this deal
was going to get done. He was going to re
sign with the Cowboys and be the highest paid non
quarterback in NFL history. So I was certainly surprised that
Jerry Jones elected to trade Parsons. I mean, the Cowboys
got worse, no matter how Jones is trying to spin it,

they got worse, And to me, its signals that they
are rebuilding. You don't trade your best overall player and
expect to get better in the short term. Now, we'll
see how those draft picks turn out and next year
in the year after that. But the Cowboys, they're probably
fighting with the New York Giants with the worst team
in the NFCST Now, as far as the Green Bay Packers,
(23:38):
I believe. I mean, they had one of the worst
pass rush units in the NFL last season, and they
not only at Michael Parsons, but he's probably the best
edge rusher that most consistent edg rushers since twenty twenty
one stats say, so it's a huge addition for them obviously.
I think this puts them at the top of the

pack North with the Detroit Lions, and they are certainly
contender in the NFC.

So will Michael Parsons get any sacks in the playoffs though?
Because he only has one when Tom Brady blew out
his spike and tripped over himself and Michaeh fell on
top of him. He has one postseason sack. So how
important will it be for Micah to perform in the
playoff games? In those games for Green Bay?

Yeah, it's going to be extremely important, and I hear you,
and Micah knows that as well. He said in his
initial press conference in Green Bay. He knows that this
contract comes with expectations, not only the highest paid defensive player,
but the highest paid non quarterback in NFL history. So
he knows that there's pressure that comes with that type

of contract situation, and I believe he has that type
of mindset. And let's face it, there are not a
lot of distractions in Green Bay, so he's going to
focus on football and there's not going to be a
lot of outside hoopla, and he's not going to do
his podcast every single week this season anymore. So he's
focused on football. He has his back allegedly better, so

I think he's going to have a really good season.

have replenished their offensive line. I like Josh Simmons at
the left tackle. I think he's gonna be a tremendous

edition in Kansas City. And then Xavier Worthy Hollywood Brown. Yes,
they're going to be without where she Rice for the
six games, but they're receiving corps Everywhethy's a year older
in the system, and I think he's going to do
really well in Kansas City year in year two. And
then don't forget about their defense. Kansas City had the
top ten defense last year. They pretty much bringing back

all all their UH standout players. So yeah, at Kansas City,
they've won the AFC West for what nine years in
a row. I don't expect that to change either. And
they've had the Chargers numbers for the last few seasons
and that's not going to change, no matter if it's
in North America, South America, Korea, no matter where it is,
the Chiefs are still better than that.

so they're still going to have a high powered offense.
And the key for the Lions is can they stay healthy,
especially down the stretch and come postseason time. We know
they were decimated by injuries. Aiden Hutcheson's coming back. He's
my comeback Player of the Year candidate. He was in
a running for Defensive Player of the Year before he
got hurt. So I don't believe they're going to take

All because they were there last year and so they're
going to continue. They're not going to change everything. They're

also believe, I know Travis Hunter is a number two cornerback.
He's a backup cornerback and listed as a starting wide receiver.
But I feel like towards the middle of the season,
the Jaguars are going to focus in on him as
a cornerback. I feel like that's his natural position and
he's going to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

an eighteen game regular season.

it's clear they want more regular season game versus preseason games,
and it's something that we'll work through with the players Association.
We continue to make our game safer, and I think
that's hit the core of making that kind of a decision.
Can we do it safely for our players? But it

also I think represents an opportunity for us to continue
to bring higher quality NFL content Ultimately in a regular
season game is clearly better.

As you've probably heard by now, a lot of NFL
fans would love to not have to go to work
the day after the super.

Bowl under the Craik always takes them Monday off. But

Bowl on President's Day weekend?

I think if you went to eighteen weeks regular season,
that would probably occur. Okay, is possible somewhere in the
calendar could happen before that, just because of the calendar
the way it lays out. But I think eighteen weeks
would get you to that point, and I think it
would be a great, a really great move.

It's the biggest non factor I've ever heard, like this
whole idea that you need a day off or Monday
after the super Bowl. Do you know what time the
super Bowl kicks off? If you live here in Los
Angeles three o'clock. What time does Sunday Night Football come
on every Sunday eight o'clock Eastern? Right, and people go

to work on Monday. You don't need no holiday. What holiday?
This is the NF and these fan like the NFL
trying to make themselves more special or more important than
they really are.

It has to be so that people could be off
on Monday, and they don't have to after the super Bowl.
The super Bowl starts at six o'clock, which is earlier
than Sunday Night Football six o'clock.

go to bed. You can't want You can't have a
couple of pops and some chicken wings and get up
and go to work. Come on, man, this is where
the NFL and people think it's bigger than it really is.
Nothing's changed here. I keep here the national holiday, the

super Bowl. It's a Sunday, it's in the winter. You're
not going anywhere. We're just eating chicken wings and drinking
a couple of beers. My god, no, no way, no how.
We don't need it to go to President's Day so

This is cost to me to get the chance to
get to the postseason, get the playoffs, and get to
the super Bowl. So guys are all in. It's a
whole different thing. So health clearly went out the windows.

And this is where so we went from fourteen to

That's certainly inevitable. Eighteen games, has to say, and that's
where they've been going. Frankly, Uh, why why eighteen games?

Because it's all about the mighty dollars. Roger Goodell has
his mind locked in on a twenty five billion dollar
annual evaluation. That's what he's getting to. By the way,
that's why Roger Goodell has a private jit for life
within his contracts because the money keeps going up. So
I think in terms of just.

But what killed me about that?
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Seriously, and I'm being honest, it ain't just Roger Goodell. Dude,
I don't care who was in that job. Football gambling,
you're going to do well. I'm dead serious. Like they
could pay him whatever they want, and I get it.
He's the CEO of this big company. But it ain't
like he's a game change. He's a game changer. He
made something different, like gambling and football go hand in hand.

Taking, but again just in terms of eighteen and he's
just moving that way, and Rob, you're consistent on this,
and it needs to be if the players, if the
NFL players will take a step back, which they've never done,
and say, look, it has to get to eighteen games.
We know it's going to get there, and hold the line.
They could get so much for themselves, all right, but

it's just a case study for the NFL players. But
then just workers and you know that standing together, and
so they're gonna end up getting steamrolled, getting petty privileges
in the deal, and then there'll be eighteen games and
nothing really much will change, uh, in terms of the
financial structure.

want eighteen games. I want guaranteed contracted.

And then the second thing is, if we're gonna do
eighteen games, you start to water down the significance of
the games. You know, when we had sixteen, they were
that much more important. When you look over at basketball
with eighty two games, then all of a sudden, those
games just really aren't that important. Early on in the season,
you start to water them down, and you know, if
you're going to have that many games, you probably need
to increase the roster. The roster what is it quantity?

I guess, yeah, yeah, number fifty three to maybe sixty
three or something.

Yeah, because of the injuries.

Yeah, and you know what else are going to happen.

I was certainly surprised. I was hearing from Micah's camp
at the beginning of the off season that this deal
was going to get done. He was going to re
sign with the Cowboys and be the highest paid non
quarterback in NFL history. So I was certainly surprised that
Jerry Jones elected to trade Parsons. I mean, the Cowboys
got worse, no matter how Jones is trying to spin it,

they got worse, And to me, its signals that they
are rebuilding. You don't trade your best overall player and
expect to get better in the short term. Now, we'll
see how those draft picks turn out and next year
in the year after that. But the Cowboys, they're probably
fighting with the New York Giants with the worst team
in the NFCST Now, as far as the Green Bay Packers,
(23:38):
I believe. I mean, they had one of the worst
pass rush units in the NFL last season, and they
not only at Michael Parsons, but he's probably the best
edge rusher that most consistent edg rushers since twenty twenty
one stats say, so it's a huge addition for them obviously.
I think this puts them at the top of the
(23:59):
pack North with the Detroit Lions, and they are certainly
contender in the NFC.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
So will Michael Parsons get any sacks in the playoffs though?
Because he only has one when Tom Brady blew out
his spike and tripped over himself and Michaeh fell on
top of him. He has one postseason sack. So how
important will it be for Micah to perform in the
playoff games? In those games for Green Bay?
Speaker 12 (24:26):
Yeah, it's going to be extremely important, and I hear you,
and Micah knows that as well. He said in his
initial press conference in Green Bay. He knows that this
contract comes with expectations, not only the highest paid defensive player,
but the highest paid non quarterback in NFL history. So
he knows that there's pressure that comes with that type
(24:47):
of contract situation, and I believe he has that type
of mindset. And let's face it, there are not a
lot of distractions in Green Bay, so he's going to
focus on football and there's not going to be a
lot of outside hoopla, and he's not going to do
his podcast every single week this season anymore. So he's
focused on football. He has his back allegedly better, so
(25:11):
I think he's going to have a really good season.
Speaker 4 (25:14):

the Eagles.

the Chiefs are motivated this year. We all know they
were embarrassed in New Orleans and the Super Bowl. They
have replenished their offensive line. I like Josh Simmons at
the left tackle. I think he's gonna be a tremendous

edition in Kansas City. And then Xavier Worthy Hollywood Brown. Yes,
they're going to be without where she Rice for the
six games, but they're receiving corps Everywhethy's a year older
in the system, and I think he's going to do
really well in Kansas City year in year two. And
then don't forget about their defense. Kansas City had the
top ten defense last year. They pretty much bringing back
(27:59):
all all their UH standout players. So yeah, at Kansas City,
they've won the AFC West for what nine years in
a row. I don't expect that to change either. And
they've had the Chargers numbers for the last few seasons
and that's not going to change, no matter if it's
in North America, South America, Korea, no matter where it is,
the Chiefs are still better than that.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
I like the Chargers in that game too. Are you
serious too? Yes?
Speaker 4 (28:26):
What's the spread in that game? Rob g He just
wants all points. Go man up game for the way,

They lost their center. Uh, they're replacing one of their guards,
so their interior, their aligned is not going to be
as strong as that last season. But they still have
one of the best tackle tandems in the league and
Decker and Toennay Seol and then offensively, they have their quarterbacks,

so they're still going to have a high powered offense.
And the key for the Lions is can they stay healthy,
especially down the stretch and come postseason time. We know
they were decimated by injuries. Aiden Hutcheson's coming back. He's
my comeback Player of the Year candidate. He was in
a running for Defensive Player of the Year before he
got hurt. So I don't believe they're going to take

a step back. I feel like your.

New coordinators don't scare you at all, Tyler. I'm just

All because they were there last year and so they're
going to continue. They're not going to change everything. They're
not going to think they're the smartest person in the room.
They're going to hamplement, keep their same system, keep their
same scheme, and they're still going to be really good.

We have our picks here at the job. Here, we
got our pigs. We've got AFC, NFC super Bowl. One

Think a random thing you think that is going to
happen this year. What do you think it could be
a player for you, It could be to just give

my eye on this. Justin Field's going to throw eight
passes completed in a row.

I feel like the forty nine ers are being underlooked because, yes,
they were injured last year. They had a down year,
but they have the easiest strength to schedule in the NFL.
It would not surprise me if they contended with the
Rams to win a the division and sneak in the
playoffs and maybe even win the NFC West. And I

also believe, I know Travis Hunter is a number two cornerback.
He's a backup cornerback and listed as a starting wide receiver.
But I feel like towards the middle of the season,
the Jaguars are going to focus in on him as
a cornerback. I feel like that's his natural position and
he's going to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

the Super Bowl last year.
