bit of NBA stuff. We got several coaches joining us,
some of the winning coaches, Lyn Krueger of Oklahoma. We've
got the UC Irvine coach after they're big upset today,
(01:30):
Russell Turner, and in about thirty minutes. We've got you know,
we do Celebrity Corner every Friday. Mario Lopezz of Saved
by the Bell fame, and he's done many other things
and you know, so we look forward to talking to him.
He's a big boxing he's right. Is that the show
he's doing well, he's extra extra high Heart Radio podcast
(01:55):
and uh, he does his thing. There's that Saved by Bell.
We should have played that yesterday. That's d that'll be
good that. I'm sure he loves being the whole right, right,
he's moved out of it though, and that's a question
for him, move out. Not everybody, right, once you get
type cast, the Fins never go all about no, not
(02:16):
till later on. Even Henry Winkler, Yeah, he really was
the Fons. He was totally opposite in real life with
the finds, you know what I mean, Like he just
seemed like a Whols did that, the old Adam West.
Adam West could never get a job after Batman, and
you know what, he wanted up doing soft porn and
(02:36):
stuff youself, because he couldn't get any worst saw him
in King of Queens once and then he became he
was on the Simpsons right. He became one of the
bosses of the bass all family guys. That what it
was was Mayor West. Yeah, Adam West. I mean he
gave him the name Adam West. Yes. I saw him
(02:56):
in King of Queens, did you. Spence was a big
fan of is. Of course you can't see that episode now,
Spence was going to like the So what he did
was Batman. Okay, that's cool. And we got Jay Rude,
our buddy from MGM Resorts, VP of Race and Sports,
co hosted behind the Book. He will be joining us
(03:17):
in the third hour, so keep it locked with Chris
and Rod for the next three hours. All right, let's
check in with the Odd Couple crew. You know what,
Chris Boussard, we wouldn't be able to do this fine
radio program without them. Gavin is our producer filling in
for Rob Ge. Alex our engineer Alex double duty. He
was on the Herd this morning with Rob. That's right,
(03:38):
and here he is. Our sports anchor, of course, is
Deb Carson. She'll keep us updated throughout the program. Our
intern is Iowa State Nate. There he is, and of
course our social media guru is Elijah. They are all
on the other side of the glass. Chris Boushard on
this Friday, waiting for the weekend. Let's kick some ass,
(04:00):
Let's do it, let's do it. Let's get to the
NC Double A Tournament today. I've lost track of my bracket.
That means your brackets. No good of you. I'm doing.
I'm I'm well over five hundred. Really yeah, yeah, I'm
well over five hundred. But I've lost a few. I
did pick Buffalo. They won. I got Buffalo going to
the final four, so step I don't know I was
(04:21):
going to that was they didn't they won going away ahead.
It did they did. That was just smart, you know what,
They're tough. My thing was, every once in a while,
you're gonna put a school nobody's really talking about, and
they're pretty good. What were they They were a six seed? Yeah, yeah,
they were pretty good. They'd be Syracuse earlier in the year,
never thirty one and three. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
But but but nobody thinks about Buffalo, is what I'm saying,
even though they had a great run. That's Alex's philosophy too.
(04:43):
He actually picked Saint Mary's in Belle Minte. Saint Mary's
in belle mind what yo, I had a chance there
for a while. Like that's like picking uh the Clippers
against uh Miami and Clippers are hot right now, That's
what that is. That's the that's like doing that. Remember
Chris said the Clippers were gonna tank, right because we're
(05:04):
gonna take Then I was told they weren't. Did they
tell you? Yes? And they were right. They went for it.
They think it's good for the brand, which it is
to make the playoffs. And only it only twelfth pick,
eleventh pick. It ain't like it ain't like you giving
up a top five pick. Then I could see you
not wanting to win. But anyway, how you feeling about
the tournament so far? I saw some good games to day.
(05:26):
I thought, uh, where was the upset? Well, you see Irvine,
of course upset Kansas State. I lost that one. Um,
but there was a game, uh somebody was Virginia was
had their hands full with Gardner Webb in the first half.
They were actually down sick Gardener web I think you
could get a good uh so far or love seed
(05:46):
or whatever another front anyway, Um, yeah, so that's Gardener
Virginia we just I mean it was it could have
been Gardener Webb and it still would have been would
have been. I'm just saying, but people all over America chuckling.
Remember I don't think so. Even Kauai didn't like that. No,
but you know I was laughing by Alex laugh. Remember Virginia,
(06:08):
of course lost last year. They became the first number
one seed to a sixteen U NBC U NBC that's
University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Is that what that? Something
like that? I thought it was a shoot of NBC television.
I wasn't really sure what UNBC you are. You are
not off to a good start. No, we're good. I'm
(06:30):
warming up to zero. I'm warming up zero. I did
n't dispute it so far. I did disputed than you had.
Oh yeah, we talked about tom Izzo. That's been good today.
That's big good than today. But let's talk before we
get to Zoe, and we'll let people We ended the
show last night with the isold stuff. People ain't get
a chance to chime and we're gonna let you chime
(06:52):
in on that. Coming up, you're gonna be able to
hit us up at eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine six sixty three sixty nine,
very nice stereo. But yeah, give what do you think
he was across the line? He was overboard or that's
just coaching. Yeah, we'll get into that. But but I
guess the thing tonight is this whole Zion cam as
(07:16):
CBS trying to lure us in. Are they gonna show us? Ah,
they I guess hired a camera and camera or the
science or are they gonna have a little box. I mean,
and we're at them, they don't have a little camp.
I don't think I think that'd be too distracting. I
just think they mean they will have every moment of Zion,
so they could go back and something goes on, they
(07:38):
could just go to that and you'll catch the whole
dunk fee sitting back a Capri son on the sideline.
I don't know if I like it. For a college kid,
it just, you know, it just seems like it's something
that could hopefully it doesn't what. It seems like a
good kid. I don't think it will distract him, but
it could distract you away. But don't they always say
(07:59):
about you're not supposed to get anything more than your teammates,
So this is right that's what they said. He can't
get paid. He can't get you know, you can't get
a free could well, you can't get a free pizza
because everybody else on the team didn't get it get paid.
I can't get any food. You can't get anything for free.
If somebody wanted to, like the crash, but CB asking zero,
(08:20):
you don't even make make one camera right sponsored by
it might be to might get a sponsorship, right right?
Did you get any money? No? I just yeah, And
I wouldn't. That's I don't like that aspect of it,
as you said, but I wouldn't. It's just I don't
know how I feel about it. You know, it's just
it's not his fault, certainly, but it can just all
you away from the team concept. And when I read
(08:43):
it in his head, you know, that's the first thing
I thought to the team, that it pulls away from
the team. Well, yeah, and the whole idea. I'm thinking.
I've been watching uh NCAA attorney March madness for thirty
five years. I never remember them putting the camera on one,
you know what I mean? So that and I get it.
Nowadays they get all these tangles and technology, so I'm like,
(09:06):
why him. There was a lot of players. They could
have done this for way way before this, right, So
I don't know. It's plenty of love anyway. I mean,
he gets the lion's share of the credit and the
coverage and all that. Now you got to throw something
else on top of it. You know. I'm not saying
it's the worst thing in the world, but it's just
(09:27):
I could do without it. So we'll see, if you know,
we'll see how it works. My buddy, a former producer
of mine in Detroit, name is Flash Flag. He sent
me a text and tell me, have you guys, any
of you guys heard this? He said, CBS is advertising
on attorney games. He goes, if you want sports scores
(09:47):
without with without all the yelling and fake debates, did
you hear that? I heard that today. I heard that.
Let's tell let's let's keep it real, let's really share
with the listeners, because you're right there, fake debates. That's
what caught me. That's what I'm like, I was debates
(10:08):
I did first take at the other network. If you
did it dating back to Cold Pizza, I don't know
two thousand and two thousand and five or six whatever,
we go way back, we've obviously we're on Undisputed with
Skipping Shannon and the other shows. Never once, it's I've
probably been on those shows combined hundreds of times to
(10:29):
question hundreds of times. Never once have I been asked,
not not told, even asked to take a side aside
that you don't believe, and never once, never happened. And
I tell people that all the time, they go, do
you guys just know these are our opinions? And sometimes
(10:51):
like today on the years old thing, it's three of us, Me,
Skipp and Shannon, and we all agreed that we thought
it was out of bounds. So so we didn't have
a dissenting voice because the three guys all so sometimes
we do do that, you know, when we feel like
we're all very passionate and have different points of view
(11:11):
on it and to what degree. But we didn't make
it up and go, oh, Rob, can you take this
side since you worked in Michigan and you you know,
you know, tom Izzo take the other or take skip
can never never never won one, because the thing that
makes those shows is the passion. Yes, and if you're
faking it, then there's not gonna be any passion. People
(11:34):
know when you're faking it and you're you know, your
heart's not in it. Let me tell you something. If
you missed the last ten minutes of our show, you
tell me that one of us were asked to right
to last night last night. Right. It's just unbridled passion
from guys who just happened to disagree on this topic.
And let's let's again we're throwing it out to you
(11:55):
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty make Do you think Time is
All was out of bounds or was he just, you know,
no big deal. I honestly, Rob, I didn't think it
was a big deal. Um. I thought he yelled at
the kid, and he yelled at him strong, and that
(12:16):
can can be a part of coaches. There are coaching
coaches that don't do that, but there are plenty of
coaches that do do that. I'm not gonna try to
compare myself to these guys because I didn't play big
time college basketball, but all through junior high, high school,
and when I played basketball in college at the lower level,
(12:37):
I got yelled at and and everybody got yelled at,
and it was a part of coaching. When I first
signed up to play football in the third grade, all
the older kids, yeah, you gotta be ready to coach,
gonna Yeah, it's gonna be yelling and you know, and
that was just something you expected and it's part of it.
And I'm not I'm not one of those that, oh,
just because I went through it, it makes it right,
(13:00):
because there are a lot of things I went through
that I don't think are right. But as far as coaching,
I think the line is when you're putting your hands
on a kid, you're using racial slurs, you're getting personal,
you know, insulting him something about him personally, you know,
things like that. And I thought what Iszo did was
(13:22):
was fine. I thought he totally crossed the line, especially
when you run up to a kid with a bald fist, like,
did you see the anger in his I mean I can't.
I'm not a body language. No I saw it. I can't.
It's not about being about it. We're not in the
court of law. I'm talking about what I saw. When
he see somebody angry. I mean, I'm ever somebody's angry,
(13:43):
it's gonna look, there's no way yelling at my kids.
And when you catch it in one one moment. I
watched the video. I saw the whole thing and he
had his fist. What is a fist for? If you
want to that's not coaching, that's being a bull thing.
He was gonna hit the kids. I don't know. I
think he wanted to. And then they sit down and
they sit down, they sit down in a huddle, and
(14:04):
he lunges at him. Again, what is that? That ain't coaching?
Show me one video of coach k doing that garbage
one just because he doesn't do it. And here's the
other one. I wanted to read this. I wanted to
read this. This is what I love. Jay billis who
looks out for the athlete. So are we gonna read everybody? No?
(14:25):
Because because you can read, that's fine. I just hate
Michigan State players. Are yours? I want to I just
gave you mine. I just want to read this because
I think it's important. And that's all. Jay Billis just
said that. Uh, And I'm gonna read the whole thing.
I'm not gonna edit it. I know Tom is on
where he's coming from. He has a track record as
(14:46):
a coach and and it's a great one. It's about
what is said not the volume for a young coach
coming up. I wouldn't recommend a similar approach like it
or not. Things of change and coaching has change. Young
coaches need to adapt methods. That's all he wrote. So
what I'm saying is that might have worked before, it
(15:08):
doesn't work anymore. People are more sophisticated, and people don't
just buy in because he's an authority figure. That's how
we got to the meet too movement, where people were
authority figures and you didn't want to go against them.
People now speak up against authority figures people when they're
doing wrong. That's why so many things went bad. That's
(15:28):
why Bobby Knight was allowed to turn into the mobsterby night. No,
that's when he turned into a monster because everybody made
an excuse from Bobby Night. They made it an excuseby
nighty night he showed up with a with a whip.
Why you compare. I'm just saying when they allowed Bobby Night,
they allowed Bobby Knight to get to that point and
(15:49):
then like that from day one. No, he wasn't choking
out kids from days up eighty eighty one. How hard
he coach. I'm talking about physically touching people. And you
don't think he did that in the seventies. Okay, I
don't your history. I will sorry because I never saw it.
I'm just telling you won't be shown that the way
(16:11):
he got fired because he finally did it to a kid.
He wasn't even on the basketball team. Every sub kid
said hey night, and he went into a rage because
he didn't call him coach Knight or or mister Knight
or whatever, and he choked the kid. That's how he
lost his job. Every little development in twenty nineteen isn't
That doesn't mean it's right just because oh it's twenty nineteen.
(16:33):
We do No, some things in the past were fine.
Everything wasn't wrong back then. Nobody said it was. But
we've gotten smarter and better as people, and we treat people. Yes,
we haven't gotten softer. We hear that. All it means,
ain't yell ye that ain't got nothing that you can
(16:54):
yell out yet. I saw about yell at you. Right,
it's fine, but this is a debate conversation. That's all right.
There's a authority, is fine. No, not when you want
him to a kid. No, you want to a kid
with your fist ball himself said it was okay, I'm
your kid's gonna say it. All those kids, all those
(17:16):
kids are brainwashing because because I went to someone, kids
comes in and gives him a scholarship and comes into
the hole he was beholding to that guy. And I'll
tell you this, he problem is offering him a scholars kid.
These kid's gonna went to another thing already there he
knows he didn't mess up his own career there and
he he didn't have to choose time he went. But
(17:38):
once he was there, he can't go back. He knew
that he can't do it. Oh, he didn't know his
own He didn't yeller. He didn't know his own was
gonna ball up his fish and to try to sock
him in the was a yeller, I'm telling you, and
said his own has been doing that forever and they
don't think. Nobody ever thinks it's gonna happen to them.
I stop it. I went into college knowing I was
gonna get yelled at, let's stop making pants. He's out
(18:00):
of people. That's a getting go macho, Chris Broussard, whatever
they make it, flat foot, you're not the guys wash
You're not the guy dropping dead at fifty five and
can't play with their kids. It's all students and Chris,
I'm so visit the Macho football please. Oh, I can't
(18:23):

(19:49):
on with the odd couple bought a party on what
I got to say? Okay, before we get on the
subject matter, how unsurprising is it that Rob knows that
Adam was it softcore porn? Right right? Oh god, what
a minute. A good catch, Marty, A good Marty. I
(20:11):
read it somewhere. You saw you, you saw it. If
I'm gonna watch it, it won't be soft ye blad Marty,
glam about it there. If anybody thinks that argument you
two guys just had his fake. They don't know real
from fake because real? Right now now, Tom is oh
(20:34):
the subject here, I'll give you my opinion. Now, Chris,
I thought to your generation and my generation and generation
younger than us, I thought we were supposed to be
the soft one. But it sounds like old man Parker
is marshmallows soft pace. You know what, a rob has
a soft side. No, it's not a not saying you soft.
(20:55):
You got a soft side, though, but you got a
violet you don't never been, never been. But I don't
like when people are taking advantage of or like to
feel like the bully, the big guy who holds all
the cards. I don't. I don't like that. I think
that's why I got into the newspaper business. To be honest,
I always believe like I was taking cards. What's your motto?
(21:16):
What what's your motto? If I'm writing, I'm ripping? You
got the bully pulpit with your pin or now the keyboard? Yeah,
but I don't repair you do? I dropped mic drop.
Let's go to Craig. Craig and Main, what's happening? Happened now?
I'm don't roll easy because I know you already said
(21:37):
I'm a Pats fan. Probably you're thinking, no, I'm gonna
let you talk. I'm I'm stepping away from the controls.
All right, all right, hey Chris, what do you think
of that? Was Belichick doing that to Brady? I met
Pocket feel different about that. Love that, but anyways, um,
I think you see is going anim and stuff. But
I think it's an example about these kids and coaching
(21:58):
you step into ISO come from military background. My father
was in the military my whole life. And I mean,
you know, he wouldn't start talking. And you can see
the other players his you know, the players saying hey stop.
But he kept running his mouth to the coach and
you don't do that, you know. And I he could
have could have handled a little better, but you shut
your mouth and stand up tall and you take it
(22:19):
and not just the way it is. You know, it's
interesting because it is appreciate. Kraymond Green said, And you
guys who are on the line, stay on. We're gonna
get in the corner. Draymond said, is A would go
at me like that, I'm paraphrasing, and he said, I
would yell back at Is even admitted Draymond would yell
back at me. And Draymond said, the reason is A
(22:40):
kept going at Aaron Henry is because Aaron was going
back at him, and Draymond said, here's the thing, though,
is a respects the kids that go back at him.
So he told Aaron Henry keep going back at him.
So he you know that. I went back at my
college coach when he yelled at me like that, and
that year I got coached coach the Coaches Award. So
(23:01):
maybe sometimes coaches do respect it when the coach ever
went up to you with his fistballed up. I don't
know looking at it, but I did have an experience
in high school where a coach went into me as
badly as that, and my father was There was a
baseball game and I had done something wrong and my father,
(23:22):
the coach went off on him. It was our rival game,
and he's the coach sent me down to the bullpen,
and my father was waiting on any right to the bullpen.
And my father went off on me too, and uh,
it was what it was? What you do? Did you
miss the ground? I was put me in the pinch run.
It was a rivalry and I was trying. I stole
(23:42):
I was supposed to steal second base, and I stole it,
and I looked. I looked at the catcher on my
way and I was like, Oh, I'm he didn't even
wasn't even throwing the ball, so I didn't slide and
I got thrown out. All right, we're gonna be joined
by the great Mario lope Has in just the moment.

Like we were talking earlier about the Fins on Happy
Days and he had trouble moving out of the role. Batman, Adam,
you've obviously been able to do that. Was that hard
were you to do or were there challenges in your
way as far as moving out of the say by
(28:05):
the Bell character. Well, there's always challenges when you're making
a transition as a child actor into the adult world,
especially when you were on a popular kid show and
you get stereotype for your character. But I feel very
blessed for that opportunity. I can't believe it's still on
(28:27):
thirty some odd years years later and in one hundred
and eighty three countries. So I just kind of blows
me away for like this little Saturday morning show that
resonated with how many people, you know, trips me out.
But I feel very fortunate that I was able to
stay as busy as I have and do many do
as many different things I'm able to be doing, from
(28:50):
you know, Broadway and written a few books to being
a New York Times bestselling author and hosting like five
different shows, and you know, very very fortunate, and I
think blessed with a family and support system. And I
always had a strong work ethic, so you know, Mom
put me out of singing, dancing, acting, playing sports, doing
everything growing up, and I think that helped as far
(29:10):
as multitasking and not necessarily just seeing myself in a
certain way. I always wanted to be as diverse as possible, So,
you know, sporked out. So far, so good. I haven't
had to get a real job. As my dad would say,
that's right. And you know, speaking of sports, that's what
we met. We met in the suite at a Dodgers
World Series game. So the seasons about the start next week,
(29:31):
next Thursday, and of course the Dodgers went to back
to back World Series. You think they can make it
a third year in a row, and what's the possibility
of finally winning it for the first time in thirty
two years. You know, I took myself. I was so
honored to be able to be in a former Boys
Club member, be out there and represent the Boys and
(29:52):
Girls Club of America for the first home game in
both of those series, and got to take my son
on the field with me. And he looks at me
after every series is over because I taken me. He's like,
it's all right, Dad, we didn't win. We'll just come
back next year. And I'm like, it doesn't work like that.
He's only he's only five, and he just thinks the
(30:13):
Dodgers are gonna be in the World theories every year
and I'm like, Noah, no, I mean it'd be awesome,
but hey, listen, we've been so spoiled out here and
odd they've been pretty. Uh. The one that really just
breaks my heart is Houston. Huge stin up breaks my heart. Boston.
You gotta give it up to him. They all around,
I think we're just a better team talked to bottom,
(30:33):
but Houston, I feel like we we blew that one,
to be quite honest. So it's frustrating. But hey, I'm
always down with the Dodgers, win or lose, and that's
probably my favorite team sports to attend in person, to
tell the true nothing better than a baseball game on
a beautiful night. Mario, you said you grew up playing sports.
(30:54):
What was your favorite sport and what kind of athlete
were you? I grew up wrestling and boxing because I
was young, and like I said, I could only focus
on the individual sports because team sports you had to
be there, right right. They don't let you slide with that.
But when you're wrestling, all you gotta do is beat
(31:15):
out the guy in your weight class. So and I've
always been fond of individual sports anyway, just because, just
like life, there's no one to rely on but yourself,
and I don't want to have to worry about someone
else for my success. And if I lose, I wanted
to be because of me, and if I win, I
want all the glory. So I want I've always been
(31:38):
partial to individual sports, and I just think it's a
takes a certain kind of man to participating in them.
So I've got my son, You've got two kids, one
on the way, and I got thank you. So he's wrestling,
he's doing jiu jitsu, he's he's doing gymnastics, all individual sports. Wow.
(31:59):
So I just think it kind of at the very least,
I like what it teaches a lot of self confidence.
I can still go a lot of discipline, not to
mention um self defense and uh, those are all astributes
that I think will help them contribute and just light.
It's the eye couple. We're joined on celebrity Corner by
(32:19):
Mario Lopez. Mario, what about football Chargers fan or rams
which fan? I'm a Chargers fan, man. You know, originally
I was born in uh San Diego. For two of us,
I'm a Bordertown kid. I'm okay for first generation right here.
So you know, my parents immigrated from Mexico, so I
grew up a Chargers fan, but I've been coming to
(32:40):
LA since I was ten years old, and essentially really
you know and Angelina, But nevertheless, I always like the Chargers. Um,
So I'm Chargers, Dodgers, Lakers all day, Lakers. Not a
good not a good season, first year where you're shocked
by this and I'm making a play. A lot of
people thought when Lebron came that it was going to
be back to the glory days. Well, I'm always the
(33:02):
eternal optimist, so I was hoping that was a case.
And then I quickly realized that we've been a hoodwin
as cold as Ice, true because the game was out,
there were talking, they were changing, we want Kobe. I'm
like cold as Ice. But oh man, I should ask
you guys, is there a future? Is this thing go
(33:23):
a bust up just in our base or what's gonna happen? Well,
I think a lot of it depends on who you get,
and really all of it depends on who you get.
And Chris, are they gonna want to play? Are they
gonna want to play with him? Though? Well, I don't think.
I don't think you're getting any of the big time
free agent. I think Anthony Davis would obviously be a
train so and he does want to play with Lebron,
(33:44):
but you can forget Clay, Kyrie, k D and Mario
all say this, I don't think he's gonna win a
championship here because I think they won't be able to
get that player that they wanted. And he's getting older,
and he's getting older. We saw for the first time,
you know, with the injury this year, like Lebron was
an iron man. So right, well, that's exactly what I
(34:06):
was thinking. I was hoping you had some insight that
would deter me. You spot on you can, you can
fill in on the show one day with the sports
taking kept secret out there. Um, I wanted to get
the boxing. You said you box. I know you're a
big boxing fan, and obviously the three knockdown rule and
so real quickly we got about a minute left Arrow Spence.
(34:28):
I'm sure you probably pulled them from Mikey Garcia, but
obviously Spence was just too much for him. Who I
Spence Croft, Terence Crawford, Keith Thurman, who's the best welter
way out there? Errol Spence and and you know I
like both guys prior to the fight, Errol Spence. I
like him as a fighter and I like him as
a person. He's a gentleman, like the way he carries himself.
And Mikey Garcia, my god, the balls on that kid
(34:49):
to go up way classes and so, you know, kudos
to him. But I never thought I was gonna be
competitive from the get now. Errol Spence, I think is
not only the gonna tell in weltroway out. They're one
of the most childfood fighters pound for pound. Kind of
reminded me of a young Marvin Hagler in the sense
that he's south Paw and he's skilled, but he's he's
(35:10):
a great finisher when he does have you hurt. I
was actually pretty surprised that he showed Garcias so much respect,
being as small as he was. But Garcie has crafty
in there too. He's got great footwork and defensively he
wouldn't let his hands go so he couldn't counter too much.
But I think Spence, outside of Terrence Crawford, which that's
number one on my Mount Rushmore, a fight I want
(35:30):
to see, even even over Anthony Joshua Deansay Wilder, I
want to see Errol Spence and Terence Crawford into me.
That's the fifty fifty fight because Terrence Cowford is bad.
I love Chance Crawford. He's Nancy with it. He fights
South puppet, He's not even a south ball. He makes
adjustments great, He's got my killer instinct, very very smart
(35:51):
in there. So to me, that is a pick him
fight whoever is able to actually get their game plan.
And on that night, I really couldn't tell you who's
gonna win that fights. That's when we gets you so excited, Mario,
one last thing before we let you go. You know,
you're on one of my all time favorite episodes of
The Golden Girls. Chris Thinks is just Chris Thinks is
just a so so show. I'm trying to tell them
(36:13):
it's one of the greatest sitcoms ever it is. It is.
Tell Chris how good it goes on saying, Mario, that's
a great show. I was on that show. You know
what's funny is ironically it was a very topical show
for the day because I got deported. Yes, on that show,
I was like a Cuban refugee, the original Ellien Gondalas, right, yeah,
And so I got deported and they still played all
(36:35):
the time. But that show was like the original Sex
in the City, but with little old ladies. No doubt
Mappy's about to go in the Golden Girls Crew. Hey, Mario,
I'm on the show. I'm on the waiting list. I'll
be the six boot black guy going to the only
one on the Boat's all right, man, Yeah, ste And look,
(36:57):
we'd love to get you back on. You know, one
of these big fights is coming down something. I love that, man,
I'd love that, any kind of fights, any boxing, any
mma on your guard so I'd look at you. Thank
you so much. All right, God bless guys. Take care. Yeah,
all right, we will get to your calls on Io. Next,
it's The Eye Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Be sure

I know, Bro, stop it. No, I'm not Joe. You know.
(38:24):
Look look Chris, Chris knows I'm talking about man pee
wee football, right, coaches going ham, Dude, you know what
I'm saying. And look at it. Man. You remember this,
Remember this, Chris, Hey, the coach LAIDs you down helmet
the helmet right, and if he was acting up in practice,
he puts the vontest perfect on the other side, Bro,
and drops you the ball. You know what I mean? Right?
(38:46):
I hear you? Man? All right, Joe, Joe is one
of your kids. Different. You get yelled at, you get
yelled at. It ain't about being yelled Your kids got
yelled at. It's fine. Official punched your kids? The kid?
Why you why you taking it to the next degree.
Did he not swich the you can't punch my kids?
Did he? Did he like punch the kids? I didn't
(39:07):
see that I did. If he tried to punch the kid,
he would he would not be hey the next That's why.
That's why latrolls pretty well. He was soft too. When
Nah PJ car listener was yelling at him. I remember that.
You see you making connections that aren't even I just saying,
let's go to Daniel in Texas. No, we gotta get
the two more coaches. Go ahead, you guys, thanks for
(39:30):
having me not having history, because I have a reputation
that on the space of field incimidation. So whatever you
want to I always see comments and see how colorful
emails are, right, yeah, yea, yeah yeah, bad connects. Go
to Richard real quick Richard in New York. You're on
(39:51):
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Rob, what's
going on? Guys? Are you doing happening? Man? Oh? Hey,
what's up? Christ Man? Yo? Rob? He stole my thunder
Because that's why I was going to talk about. I mean,
he seems to me people don't forgot about Latreille's free well,
and PJ and colisseum off okay because he goes there
because you know, because PJ was screaming at Daryl while
(40:13):
was on during practice, and you know Latrell he does
went off. Okay, Yeah, I mean the trail's free. Well,
as a grown man making money, it's a different situation. No,
but this way there's a way to deal with people,
just wrong people. I mean, supposedly what PJ said the
trail was put some more mustard on it, so he
(40:35):
should and go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. And also and also
people seem to forget as a kid growing up in
the seventies. Okay, this is about over forty years ago,
and everybody forget about redd Gie Jackson and Billy Mark
a fight in the that that's right, no doubt about it. Thanks,
(40:57):
appreciate it, all right. It's the couple of Chris Brussard
and Rob Parker, and we got plenty more Rob Duke.
Duke is in the battle. Rob. I mean it's early
twenty six, twenty one, stopping Duke is up. They just
went up by three twenty eight twenty five with a
minute forty left in this first half. All they gonna
(41:17):
do is win the game and move on. Yeah, I'd
be surprised if it's close. I hope it is. I Couple,

the show with the head coach for the University of California,
Irvine ant Eaters, Russell Earner Russell Coach, Welcome to the Tipping. Hey,
(42:04):
thank you guys. I can't tell y'all much I appreciate
you having me and you survived on your show. Hey,
congratulations on the win. At this point, your guys upset
over fourth seed in Kansas State. You guys a thirteen seed,
the biggest of the tournament so far. How did you
guys pull off that. You know, they had been playing
pretty good basketball coming into I think they lost four
(42:26):
games in the last few months, and you guys took
it to them. What was the key to pulling off
that upset? Yeah, I mean it's it's a special win
for us, for our program, for our university. You know,
they're the big twelve TIMPs and and we were able
to knock them off today. I think the key was
that my guys believed that we could defend at a
(42:47):
high level against them. We changed things up on them.
I thought we confused them a little bit. You know,
they were missing the one of their best players in
Dean Wade, and I think we took good advantage of
that and hung around in the game and made the
play down the stretch to finish it off. It was fun.
I'm before you, coach, but I'm not afraid to tell
you you did some damage to my black Hey. Hey,
(43:09):
I feel picked up Chris. I know, I know I
was wondering there. He should have been on the band NBA.
He knows colleges not so much. But Coach Turner, the
your program riding a seventeen game winning streak, but when
you come into a game like this where it's a
thirteen verses of four. Is it a little easier when
(43:31):
people aren't expecting much or pressure You could just go
out and play your game. Or does it matter the
seedings in the tournament? Yeah, I don't think so much
at this point. Man, it's winner go home for every team.
It takes the rectangle. And my guys were playing with
pressure all season. We gotta ran through the Big West
(43:51):
with a fifteen and one record, everybody taking their best
crack against us, and there's pressure in that. And then, uh,
we knew we had to win three games in three
days in our conference tournament just to qualify to be here.
So I think that the mental toughness of my team
has been sharpened and we're tournament ready right now. Yeah.
We got down I think ten, maybe a little bit
more earlier in this game today, and nobody blinked. And
(44:15):
that's a that's a credit to the senior leaders on
my team, the captains, but to the group really from
top to bottom, because these guys are tough and they
can play, and we got a chance in this tournament
now to show everybody a little bit. You've got Oregon
in the next round. And they they're the twelve seed.
They upset fifth seeded Wisconsin. So do you think your
(44:36):
players are looking at it like, oh wow, now we
got a lower seed, We're more confident, or you have
to guard against them getting over confident that Hey, you know,
obviously Wisconsin you're gonna get up because they're the fifth seed.
Do you have to how do you handle going into
this game against a team that's seeded essentially where you
guys are? You know, for us, Chris, the seeds don't
(44:59):
really matter. I mean, those two teams are power conference schools.
We're not dummies. They think they're better than we are,
and most of the world thinks that they're better than
we are. And so I don't worry about my guys
Latin up. I mean, those teams can beat us, but
it won't be because we let up at all. I mean,
we're gonna bring it. Man, take us inside the locker
(45:20):
room after the game. Just I know, there's a long
journey here and you hope to continue to play. But
that was your school's first ever NCAA tournament win today,
Yeah it was? And yeah, and what did the kids?
I remember my question was how did the kids respond
or act to that. You know, after winning that game,
(45:42):
you know, I mean, everybody obviously is thrilled and excited.
Hard to describe how good it feels to, you know,
have a goal like we've had to advance an NSA
tournament and then to reach that goal. You know, any
any big, difficult goal that you reach is incredibly satisfying.
But to do it with you know, your buddies, guys
that you know, you've grown together with and been through
(46:05):
things with. There's not much better in the world than that.
So you could imagine that locker room felt pretty good.
But I don't think we were so you know, tubulant,
like we had done something that we didn't expect. I mean,
we came in this game expecting to compete and expecting
to win, and we would up did it. So, you know,
I think everybody feels some pride about that and some
excitement about what we may be able to do going forward. Coach,
(46:28):
I felt like for the past several years, at some
point a mid major is going to break through and
win the tournament. Butler almost did it. But I feel
like that because you know, you've got players staying three
and four years, mostly four years, and they've got chemistry,
they've got camaraderie there. You know, probably have a higher
basketball IQ than freshmen and the more talented teams in
(46:51):
the tournament. A lot of times they're all freshmen or
mostly freshmen. Do you feel the same way that at
some point a mid major will breakthrough, that a mid
major has advantages in that regard? Yeah, I think I
think hopefully a mid major won't break through. Last year
one did and Loyal or Chicago they got all the
way to the final four. So our guys all know that,
(47:12):
you know, everyone, everyone of my team wants to do
what some mid major players have done, like you know,
Steph Curry or as we job around, I mean, you know,
guys really long for the opportunity to show that they
can compete and perform, you know, so we're doing that.
And uh, I do think that mid majors, you know,
(47:33):
have a little chip on their shoulder with something to
prove in a situation like we played in today and
they're gonna get to play in again on Sunday. You know,
whether one will ever win the whole thing, I don't know,
but I like what we have. We've built it together.
You know, we've gotten we've gotten steadily better and we're
the dance as long as we can. In the tournament
(47:54):
like this, Obviously you want the horses and if you
have some great players, but we've seen villain Over win
two out of the last three championships with with you know,
like guys who play three and four years and they
have depth and they have experience. Is that better than
just having like a Zion Williamson or some you know,
stud one guy. To have a team that's kind of
(48:18):
experience and has uh some depth to it, which one's better?
You know, it depends depends on what you like and
who your team has. You know, my team has great
depths and my team has great balance, and that's our strength.
And so I know that the people who follow us
closely love that about us. But I mean anybody had
to love what John Morhan and Mery State did today too,
(48:39):
So they're a little bit different than we are. You know.
The great thing about the NCAA tournament is that there's
all different types of teams and a group like guyers
can rise up and compete and perform. And we did
it today and I'm honking for that for our community
and our fan. Coach, you brought up job Moran and
so far as far as individuals, he's kind of been
the start of the tournament. So far. What do you
(49:01):
I don't know how much you've seen him. I don't
think you guys played them. But if you know much
about his game, how do you think he'll translate to
the next level in the NBA. Oh, he's gonna be
He's gonna be dynamite. I mean, you can't do what
he did today on the stage he did it on
without being real And uh, you know, I spent six
years in the NBA's an assistant coach. You can see
(49:23):
pretty quickly the guys who have that special quality that
will allow them to improve, continue to improve and emerge
on another level. He'll have that. I'm confident, you know
I mentioned I'm men sure to see how I can
follow up the performance he had today in the next round,
because you know it is Chris gets harder and harder. Yep,
(49:46):
um coming at you. It's harder and harder. So it's
gonna be harder for us. Is that to play well
in our next game? Is that the same case for
like Duke with Zion the big target on the back,
you know, there the school that's one so many championships,
they have coach k and now they have the talk
of college basketball. This pressure that comes with that is
not as easy as people think, oh yeah, you know
(50:10):
the pressure and then say tournament is enormous on everybody,
you know, one the players, on the coaches, on everybody.
That's what makes it such incredible viewing theater, you know,
is seeing people struggle to deal with that. You know.
I think that you mentioned earlier. You know, our team
has got a veteran group. It's been a part of
what we are for longer, you know. I think that
(50:32):
they can draw from one another. I think the younger guys,
you know, the scrutiny of the pressure that the tournament
brings is a really heavy weight that they're feeling for
the first time. So bust to see how things unfold.
I mean, Zion Williams says, once in a generation talent.
I like everybody else, I enjoy watching him, but I'll
be interested to see how he can hold up to
the pressure. I know you'll be busy with the tournament.
(50:54):
And again, congratulations, what have you been looking for the
apartments in Westwood at all? No, man, if you've been
the Irvine. You know, I got a pretty good down here.
I'm just saying that's the talking there. Hey man, that's
on you guys. I'm committed to my team, Okay, my
(51:16):
staff and and I enjoined these guys and I really
can't wait to get back together for practice with them tomorrow.
All right, well, coach, congratulations when and uh, I mean look,
we look forward to you guys in Oregon. Uh and
then some some one of you who is gonna be
the Cinderella that gets to the sweet sixteen. So good
luck in yeah. Hey yah, duck hunting, We're gonna good effort.
(51:43):
Coachs Okay, thank you guys. All right, how good is
John Moran? One coach says he reminds him of magic Magic?

lot of people talking about somebody else. And he is
from a mid major. He just got off the phone
(54:16):
with Russell Turner, coach of UC Irvine, which upset Kansas
State in the first round. And uh, all the mid majors,
all the guys that they've ever gone to a mid
major are pulling for this kid. John Morant, Yes, played
with Zion and au I saw that picture of who's
the other player there? Was another one on there. I
(54:37):
can't remember who the other guy was, but there were
showed the picture of I'm like, how did he wind
up at Murray's State? You know what I mean? I
asked an NBA scout that they say, Hey, college coaches
make mistakes sometimes, and you know what, some guys blossom
that Weber State. Some guy's blossom later. You know that.
I mean, don't forget c J. McCullum was at Lee High.
(54:58):
That could happen. Ye, Steph Curry was at Davidson. I mean,
are you forgetting that? Right? I mean, so how did
he get there? And nobody recognized his talent, especially for
a guy who's dad played in the NBA. But then again,
look at Jordan's kids. It's not automatic. Oh no, no,
I mean hack watching what was you see her? Vine? Right?
(55:20):
They had three guys from the NBA NBA lineage. Corian
Butler's son was there, Walt Hazard's grandson. Because we used
to work with Jacob his other Yeah, yeah, he's not
that fox anywhere. No, No, he's working for entertainment companies.
Other Jacob played on teams with me on right, Jacob
(55:43):
played there, but his dad, I mean his grandfather, Ye
was Walt Hazard. So uh yeah. But anyway, for all
that we've heard about John Morant, Leonard Hamilton, the Florida
State head coach, he may have taken the cake. He
was a wer call right one't the Wizards coach with
George Jordan. Jordan and he had this to say, Florida
(56:04):
State the fourth seed. They play Murray State next, and
I gotta be honest, I'm pulling for Murray State. I
want to see job morand go as far as he can.
Well you want to get more of him? Well, yeah,
to see more of him. And so anyway, here's what
Leonard Hamilton's even though I picked I didn't even I
picked Florida State, but I'm pulling form Murray State in
(56:25):
my bracket. I picked Florida State. Here's what Leonard Hamilton
said about job Morand right here we go portar Thick.
He did. What I noticed is he's one of the
most exceptional players that I've had a chance to watch play.
And this is a guy that's coaching in the NBA,
been around a long time. Said he's kind of a
throwback to guys who have the ability to score points,
(56:47):
but he also has the passion and the excitement about
creating opportunities for his teammates. Guys like Nate Archer ball Wow,
who can lead the NBA in scoring and lead in
assist at the same time. A guy like Magic Johnson
who got so much joy making the game easy for
(57:08):
his teammates. Magic Wow. This one is not as big,
but still was a good player. Even a player like
Muggsy Bogs who has an uncanny way of making things
easy for his teammates. So that is some high praise.
Because with Leonard Hamilton was also a coach at Miami,
didn't he he's Comedian college. Yeah, coach at Miami. Coached Yeah,
(57:29):
Miami of Florida. I believe, right, Yeah, Yeah, he's been around. Okay,
like he's shouldn't you said any coach in the NBA
coach Michael Jordans, So he knows that the pro game.
He's been around, seen a lot of players. Uh, pretty
high praise. I look, I I've seen highlights of Jah
and all that. The first time I really sat and
(57:52):
watched and kind of analyzed his game was the first
game of the first rounds in the tournament, and I
was just the dude was outstanding. Um, I mean and
and he averages twenty five points a game or twenty
four point four and ten assists, and so I thought
he was probably a scoring obviously, you see the dunks
(58:13):
and all that. What I was impressed by was his
playmaking ability, Like he's not a guy that gets his assists.
And now I don't mean this as an insult, but
like a Russell Westbrook or Alan Iverson when they're going
to the their mainly scores, you know, and I rest
Brooks changed a little bit, but you know, they're going
(58:34):
to the basket looking to score, and then as they
draw track, you know, draw different attention from defenders, then
they'll kick it to a teammates. This guy runs the
offense like he's it was almost like he's looking first
to make plays for his teammates. And the first game
was he fired for nine from nine times. He's had
seventeen points. He shot nine times. He shoots fifty percent
(58:56):
from the floor, which I love, and the eighty one
sent from the line. Sufficient he doesn't need a lot
of shots. Yeah, he looks like the truth. Now we
had Rashaan phillips On, who's our basketball college basketball guru. Right,
he loves job but he didn't predict starting him in
the NBA said he'd be really good. I don't want
to get ahead of myself, but what I saw in
(59:17):
that first game, I'm thinking, like, this dude can be great.
Do you think he could overtake with the Great Tournament?
Could he overtake Zion number one pick? I don't think so.
He's got a lot of mojo going And you know
what I mean, Yeah, yeah, I can see why a
team might think that. You know, and let's see what
he does because obviously stepping up in competition. You know,
(59:39):
Murray State is a mid major, so now he's playing
the big big boys, continues to dominate like that. Um
but and he's a freshman. You know, we've seen upper
classman junior seniors do this. You wouldn't be as impressed
because well he's you should, right, But a freshman in
(01:00:00):
the step in and do it. I'm sure he's only
probably touching on his potential because he clearly is a
late bloomer to some degree. So Zion, you almost have
to take Zion. No, you would be afraid as a
GM because if you take a kid who blossomed in
the attorney and I'm not saying he didn't have a
good season, but Zion's been that guy all year and
(01:00:23):
then you kind of flake at the end, and you know,
like there's been a lot of bad first overall picks.
Just said, I mean, we could go through the list, Anthony,
who's the kid from Bennett? Yeah, from Cleveland and Cleveland Bennett.
I mean, Andrew Wiggins is good, but he's not what
people think. People thought he was the next it. I mean,
(01:00:44):
my goodness, and you don't even and I'm just saying,
you don't even hear his name most nights. No, no,
don't he Look he's a fine third or fourth option,
but that's not what the number one golden didn't pan
out because of the injuries, right, I think I'm saying, yeah,
and you mentioned who'd you just say market? Yeah, it's plenty.
I mean, so you have to be careful, but yeah,
(01:01:07):
I think the question really is can John Moran overtake
RJ Barrett or has he already as a second pick?
It might depend on what you need. RJ Barrett swing
man doesn't shoot it incredibly well, but probably would develop that.
But we had Jeff Goodman on yesterday. He said, you
know RJ has kind of plays bullyball. Six seven gets
(01:01:29):
to the whole, probably be a scorer. I think I
like Job better than him. But you know, competition level
is a little different too, Yeah, because that does count,
and it does matter who you're playing against, who you're
scoring against, who you're going against defensively, because when you
get to the NBA, that's what we always talk about.
When you get to the NBA. Everybody's good, right, you
(01:01:51):
know what I mean? Everybody right, everybody was the man.
Everybody was mister basketball in this state. Go go look
at it. It's unbelievable to make it to that level.
There's only four hundred jobs, right, and John Moran is
a sophomore, not a freshman. He's a sophomore. Um. He
averaged five turnovers this year. That's a little sloppy, but
(01:02:11):
then again, you are handling the ball. Yeah, yeah, that's minute.
That's a lot. But he's tough. I mean, it's it's
this is what you know. Look, remember Dwayne Wade. He
now he kind of can't I don't know if market
out of nowhere is the right phrase, but not a lot.
He made his name in the tournament at Marquette, you know,
(01:02:33):
and I remember when pat Riley drafted him fourth or fifth,
I think it was. I think it was because it
was Lebron Dark, Marco Carmelomelo and Bosh. And I thought
Riley had made a huge mistake because I was like,
you got Eddie Jones, Why are you drafting another two guards? Right?
You know? And so that's a that's kind of says, look,
(01:02:54):
take the best player with yeah, no, no, no, you
gotta be careful about that. I always wonder though, when
you when you say that, you know, was Portland really
did they really make a mistake when they had Clyde Drexeler.
And I'm just saying you had because it wasn't it
buy second? No second, that's right front of Jordan, right,
(01:03:18):
boy was second? Yeah, And I'm just saying from the
standpoint that you already had Clyde Drexeler was a hell
of a player that had a great career, Hall of fame. Okay,
That's what I'm saying. So it wasn't like, uh, you know,
should we take an another two guards? Do you know
what I'm saying? Like it's interesting, but it's a weird thing. Nah,
I hear you? Yeah, I mean you like you say,
it's not a good two guard we have. It's a
(01:03:38):
grade one's swing. He played something small for it, but
he did. But right, it's interesting because Clyde. I had
him on my podcast last year in the zone. He
told me he wanted them to drift Jordan. He actually
talked to them about drafting Jordan because he felt they
would have been red now as good as Scottie, Pippen
and Jordan were. Drexler, I think it a vacuum. Drexler
(01:04:01):
is better than Pippin. Yeah, that is a great fit
with George. I was gonna say. Now, only thing is
I'm not sure what Clyde defense even though you could
have more than one guy obviously, yeah, yeah, it would
have been but it would have been interesting. Obviously they didn't.
They took Sambuoy, he got injured and it was never
the same. No, all right, it's the Iris bizarre. Rob
(01:04:22):
Parker up next. Oklahoma head coach Lin Krueger joins us.
But first, Dab Carson for the Latest and Sports. Yeah, busy,
de Carson, busy, busy, lots of hoops going on. Have
four games currently underway in the NCAA Tournament to top
seed Duke in the East right now, with a firm
lead on North Dakota State forty to twenty seven, seventeen
(01:04:42):
to go in the second half. Also in the East,
it's halftime as Mississippi State leads Liberty by two thirty
seven thirty five. Midwest Region action halftime as Houston that
leads Georgia State forty to thirty one, nine to go
in the game, and it's a tight one here it's
an eight nine match up, Washington leading. You've tossed eight
right now at fifty three, excuse me, fifty four at
(01:05:02):
fifty three. Earlier today you mentioned coach Krueger or Oklahoma
dumped Old miss ninety five at seventy two. The coach
and the Sooners getting said to take on top seed Virginia,
who took down Gardner Webb earlier today had a big
upset in that region. In the South, you see Irvine
stunning k State seventy to sixty four. So brackets busted.
(01:05:23):
They're also Oregon busting some bractets. They eliminated five seed
Wisconsin seventy two. Fifty four. West Region, Texas Tech was
a winner over Northern Kentucky. They'll face Buffalo who handled
Arizona State seventy four. Your check engine light can signify

NFL News Falcons are discussing a deal with receiver Julio

As we wait on a line, Krueger, have you looked
at your bracket house it looking No. I haven't looked
at it since I was turned in, But I'm gonna
(01:07:30):
do that tonight. Just got a little time to relax,
you know what I mean, Watch some basketball and I'll
take a look see where I'm at, you know, and
I think you and I are the same. I did
a bracket this year. I hadn't done a bracket and
I don't know eight or nine years, maybe even ten years. Yeah. Wow,
And I really enjoy just watch her. Yeah, yeah, I
(01:07:52):
enjoy it now. Like I said, mad at you. In
my bracket, I picked Florida State over Murray State. But
I'm pulling form Murray State, so I don't really care
out the bracket. I did it, you know, kind of
for the job. But I can really enjoy the tournament
without having my bracket. And my bracket is uh, let
me see right now, I'm one two three, four, five, six, seven,
(01:08:13):
eight nine ten, I'm ten and one two three four
I'm ten and six, ten and six so far? Yeah,
and what you you you you you made uh a
facial expression like you're surprised that that's pretty good. You
think that's not bad. I mean maybe maybe the first
(01:08:33):
round respecting a little bit better because you know, but
but but what Murray State that first game? But Murray State,
I did? You did? I lost, but a lot of
people he was over Bayle game. Jason Smith not a
happy camper, right, I picked Belmont over Maryland. I just
picked him to win one game, not the whole tournament
(01:08:55):
like DJ Tisher, But right I picked that. I lost
on that when I picked the Vada over Florida. Nevada
start out the season like they were gonna do something
and went twenty nine and four. Disappointed in them. And
I picked Seaton Hall over Wofford. And I picked Wisconsin
over Oregon. Wisconsin always seemed to do well on the
(01:09:17):
tournament there, but you know, I don't think it. They
don't have Bowl Ryan anymore. You know, it's been years,
but I'm saying Wisconsin has always been that team that
seems to show up come tournament, but apparently not this year.
I also missed on New Mexico State in Auburn. I
picked New Mexico State. All right, let's welcome in the
head coach for Oklahoma Sooners Line Krueger Line, welcome to
(01:09:40):
the show. Thanks very much, appreciate the opportunity, coach. Congratulations
on lations on the victory. You guys blew out Old
miss and you guys, I mean, with all due respect,
you kind of limped into the tournament. You know, you
lost what six of your last you want you went
six and ten down to stretch. How you know, how
(01:10:03):
surprised were you? I don't know if surprised is the
right word. But what do you think got it going
for you guys today? And how do you instill that
confidence in your players heading into the tournament after kind
of struggling down the stretch of the season. Yeah, guys,
really it is more in the middle, the middle third
of the Big twelve. We didn't played very well at
all and didn't kind of bounced back and one thank
(01:10:25):
for ever last seven or so and started playing a
little bit better at a very good week last this
past week in preparation for her old miss, And then
guys made shots early today and I picked up their
energy and really played played pretty well for forty minutes.
Is it harder? You know? We always talk about especially
early on, you know, sixteen against one and fifteen against
(01:10:47):
two and those kind of seeds. But you were a
ninth seed and they were eighth, So I guess a
little bit of an upset. But when are you so
evenly matched and his team so close together in the seedings?
Is that harder to gauge or harder to play? Or
not well? He expected to be a really tough battle.
You know, when you got eight nines, those who usually
the most highly contested games in the tournament that first
(01:11:10):
round anyhow, and again we go up that that's a
good start. That kind of distorted everything because Old Business
is a pretty good basketball team, and we had a
margin pretty much all the way today. But we played
them ten times, would probably be pretty even. Coach, You've
got Virginia to number one seed in the South region
coming up. Um, what is the key to taking them
(01:11:31):
out in that next round? They're very good, they do
a great job. Tony Bennett, premier coach in the country.
Guys are so well disciplined. They're very patient out fifthly,
but but yet shoot the ball very well and defensively
extremely great in the fund fundamentals, a real great position
(01:11:51):
all the time, so they couldn't so again, gotta make shots,
You gotta take care of the basketball, Gotta try to
limit them to one shot and play play good for
forty minutes. What what's h in the tournament? What is
the best part of it? I know for a lot
of kids there when they get their first opportunities to
play and you've been around for a long time, and
(01:12:13):
what is it still about the tournament. Is it the
one and done? The finality of it, you know, the
urgency of it is that what gets you going because
you know if you lose, it's all over. Experience Ncuba
tournament is great. I mean the opportunity of the guys
him playing a ball game and have those memories for
for a lifetime, and then to win a ball game.
(01:12:33):
And now he got tonight and tomorrow and in preparation
for Virginia on Sunday. So it's it's great. Obviously, the
urgency of it all. You got to focus, you know
that every position you gotta play it like it's the
one that's gonna's German the outcome of the game, because,
like you say, if you don't win and then you're
watching tomorrow. Coach, you obviously had Trey Young last year,
(01:12:56):
and uh, he's really doing a great job in the
NBA eighteen and a half points, almost eight assists the game.
Last two months, he's averaging about twenty three points and
nine assists. I'm sure you thought he was gonna be
good at the next level, but are you surprised at
how quickly he's become, You know, a guy that's really
putting up great numbers in the NBA. Like you say,
(01:13:18):
the last six weeks or so, he's been phenomenal. It
wasn't that he was bad early, but he was feeling
his way a little bit early. But he's playing great.
It's always hard to project someone to do the things
that Trade's doing right now, but great to see it
and happy for him. It's the odd couple. And we're
joined by Oklahoma head coach Lyon Krueger speaking of potential
(01:13:40):
going from college to the pros and making a splash.
What's your take on Zion Williamson. What do you like
about his game? Yeah, there's not much to not like
about it either. Unique character that just dominates on both
ends of the floor, and you know, just adroid to watch.
He seems to play the game with with enthusiasm and
(01:14:01):
excitement and and impacts impacted in a big way. So yeah,
he's a terrific player. Line. You coached in the NBA
in Atlanta around two thousand and two thousand and three.
You were there for three seasons. Um, what's the difference
between coaching in the NBA and coaching in the college level. Well,
obviously season is longer. You've got a lot of ball games, Uh,
(01:14:23):
not a lot of practice time. You're dealing also with
young people at different stages in their career. In college,
you've got guys that aspire to be in the NBA,
so they're working hard every day and maybe don't have
a lot of people around them were in the NBA.
You know, a lot of them got families, they've got
the agents, they've got you know, people are hanging around.
So it's a different culture altogether. But till it comes
(01:14:46):
down to basketball, you know, getting people in a position
where they have the best chance to be effective, and
in the NBA, certainly those are the best players in
the world and they're fun to watch. Now, coach, you've
been around a while and you you remember the game
when the three pointer wasn't as big of a factor
as it is now. How different is it for coaches
now that that's such a huge part of the game.
(01:15:08):
It's a big difference. Early on, even when the three
pointer did come in to play in like nineteen eighty six,
the first few years some coaches said, we're not we're
not going to shoot the three, right, you know, And
then more and more it became the thing to do.
And yeah, now everyone can shoot it. It stretches the floor.
Really the way to appreciate the game and so physical
(01:15:29):
inside in terms of low post people being able to score,
it doesn't make much sense to not shoot threes. This
has a much as a much higher percentage play. And
then guy, unless he's really skilled in the post, it's
hard to score in there with all the contact that
happened onun shots. Do you think the reliance on the
three pointer or the emphasis on it, I should say
(01:15:49):
makes upsets more likely? Very possibly go a lot a
lot of teams, you know, maybe some from some some
of the non Power or five conferences maybe go with
smaller lineups and they got you know, four guys out there,
maybe five guys out there they can shoot to three.
So it stretches the floor. There's maybe a little different
matchup from what a lot of the Power of Five
(01:16:11):
conference players see Weekend and week ount. Lana, I know
you involved in Coaches versus Cancer. Tell us about it
and I don't know, there's a big event coming up
in May, So how can people get involved and tell
us about what's happening. Yeah, coaches all over the country
do a great job and promoting awareness and help with
folks raise dollars, you know, since nineteen you know, in
(01:16:34):
the last twenty five years, since nineteen ninety two ninety three,
you know, I've been more than one hundred and ten
million dollars raised by coaches versus cancer and all the coaches,
so they do a great jobs. It's a nassy disease
and everyone has been touched by it in one one
form or another. So yeah, anyone who interested, it's easy
to get involved. There's a lot of local, regional activities
(01:16:56):
and plus we've got a big event in Vegas May
nineteen through any First it's people come and have a
great time. And last year raised over you'll netted over
a million and a half dollars. So it's a lot
of people chipping in and it's a good partnership and
the MGM Grand there's a great job out there along
with Sanford Health, was Health, Dakota and a lot of
(01:17:17):
a lot of very good partners line. Thanks a lot.
That's great word. Yeah, that's great work you're doing. And
good luck against Virginia this weekend. Thank you very much.
Appreciate it. I appreciate it. Lon Krueger, all right, is
Lebron James uncoachable. Wow, some and not just Rob Parker.
Thanks say talk about that next a couple of Fox

that's right. We get funky up in here. Oh, Iowa
State Nate getting live. I told him that. Look he
got some rhythm. Look I told you though, Iowa man,
don't sleep on Iowa, my man, Iowa State Nate in
the house. It's Chris Bruce Ay, Rob Parker, the Eye Couple.
(01:18:21):
What how do you get to Iowa? I mean, like,
I know you're like I didn't. He did not tell
you you're trying to send him back one of the
members of TLC. It's from Iowa. I've never been to Iowa.
I don't. I just don't even like, can you take
a play it? It's a fly over state. It is
one of them. Listen to Gaffen. Well, my roommate, my
(01:18:43):
roommate is from Iowa. So I have this pent up
anger inside. What did I say? Cause he told me
to not take He told me that since he will
beat Iowa today by fifteen really, so I put a
financial investment on that, and he was dead right. Did
you lose? Not too much? All right? I did pick Iowa.
Did not say that almost worked almost. That was almost
(01:19:05):
my first job out of college, the Iowa City Press,
the Iowa City Press, Citizen. Okay, they offered me a job. Yeah,
what year was that, nineteen eighty five I graduated college Iowa. Yeah,
you're a sports writer too. We went to state that
year in basketball would have been I would have been
(01:19:27):
covering high school. Yeah yeah, so um. But anyway, let's
get to this Lebron James thing. Now. Mike Wilbon, who
we both know for a long time, and he said
that Doc Rivers was told that you don't want to
coach Lebron. He doesn't because Lebron doesn't want to be
(01:19:47):
coached and that's why he So he basically said Doc
Rivers was advised not to take the Lakers job because
Lebron doesn't want to be coached, and wilbon is very
plugged in, uh, you know, with NBA types, so I
don't doubt his report. And for one second, And when
(01:20:08):
I first met Mike Wilbond, he was a uh beat
writer who covered uh the bullets back in those days,
and he covered you didn't know it whenn't his first
beat Georgetown John Times. But I didn't. I knew him
as it because he's a little older than me. So
when I knew him, he was covering to the NBA.
He covered the Baltimore Oils for a couple of seasons,
(01:20:29):
you know, early on. Yeah, I did baseball too, so
but that's when I knew him. And in those days,
everybody was Chris. Everybody was a beat writer. Bob Ryan,
oh yeah, yeah, all those guys that you see, you
know what I mean now, they all covered the NBA. Yep, yep, man.
That's what most people don't know. Most of these guys
you see on TV to talking hands like us, right,
we were beat writers. We all covered yall just come
(01:20:52):
out of college and get thrown on the debate show, right,
unlike most right, right, But they think that that's but
do you. I don't think Lebron's uncoachable. I think Lebron
is very intelligent, He's got great basketball i Q and
obviously he's a great player, and I think players like
that can there can be challenges to coaching him. Magic
(01:21:13):
Johnson got Paul west Head, who had led the Lakers
to the championship in his rookie year, got him fired.
We want to play a certain way and the coach
wants us to play the opposite way. So Magic said,
it's him or me, Him or me. And at that time,
if you remember, they wound up signing Magic to a
twenty five year contract, five year, twenty five million, one
(01:21:36):
million of year for twenty five years. Great at that
time time like wow, but o million dollars contract, right right?
But I look Jason Kidd, he had his issues with
coaches and kid. I think it's like Lebron, Like, if
Lebron worked so hard himself obviously that he holds his
teammates and the coaches as well to that same. Sta dude,
(01:22:00):
And if he feels like you're not working, you don't
know what's going on like you should, then he's gonna
be upset. And I think that's what can make it
a challenge to coaching. But Jay Kidd was the same way.
If he felt you were playing too much golf not
getting in them x's and oos like you should, he

NC double a tournament weekend, one of the best weekends
in sports. Without question. This is not what weekends are better.
Super Bowl weekend. Yeah, that Super Bowl weekend's gotta be
number one, even though the game was horrible this ship,
but you're right, it's got to be leading up to it. Yeah,
that's number one. NA tournament. It used to be number two.
(01:23:27):
It used to be great in the old days when
they matched up. I don't know if you remember, it
was always the National champ Baseball opening day was always
that Monday during the day, and then the National Championship
was played that night. It was it was like a
full day. Yeah, it was great growing up. But now
you know, the schedules are different, and Baseball's opening up
(01:23:49):
on Thursday, like the earliest that it's ever opened. I
think this is like the earliest because it's like the
twenty eighth of March, so baseball, Yeah, like the earliest.
And then you know, the tournament's still going on. We're
not there. But yeah, this weekend will be good. It'll
be a lot of a lot of games and then
you'll be able to continue and and uh go to
(01:24:09):
a sports bar with your buddies, Chris, you know what
I mean. If you want to watch some games that
you whittled out some of the bad teams or the
teams that aren't going to move forward, and uh, it
is a great weekend. I always it's Uh, I guess
bitter sweet is the word. I love the first weekend.
Second weekend is great too, and then the third weekend
(01:24:32):
it's I feel like I'm missing it, like because you
only got two games, but you got the two games
on Saturday and then the final on Monday, and so
I always feel kind of bitter sweet toward the end
because you know, it's the the exciting games all day
that's over right. I love the first weekend because weekend
(01:24:54):
is tremendous because you have all these games to watch, Yeah,
and there's not much else going on sports watch, know
what I mean. It's it's it's that time of the year.
Even when I was an NBA beat writer during the tournament,
it was like nobody really was thinking about the NBA
at least the first weekend, you know, like NBA completely
takes a back seat to No. I agree. I agree,
(01:25:16):
because we're getting geared up. We're still about a less
than a month away from NBA playoffs. The season ends
on what it's the fourteenth of April somewhere around there.
So you know what I mean, we're starting to gear up.
People are jocketing for positions, but still it's not like
the end of the world. So this weekend is one
where you could just kind of push back from the
NBA and watch college right and due even though tonight
(01:25:41):
the Nuts can eliminate them. The Angelo Russell is too,
it's interesting that great for him if he has a
big game and they eliminate the Lakers official play do
we know? Yeah, I get, I'm yeah, I assume he's
gonna I'm gonna assume, yeah, he'll play. But that'll be
(01:26:02):
that that's good for de Angelo, good for de Angelo.
But um, yeah, So that's where we are with the tournament.
Duke was in what were they up one or two
at the half? It was closer to half, maybe six,
And of course our producer Gather was like, yeah, I'm excited,
and we both said this lap is quite a bit there.
(01:26:22):
Don't get your pennies in a bunch And wasn't gonna
have a state if Duke class man, what a story
that would be. You want to talk about the basketball
game that shook the earth? That would have been the
one that. What does Zion do? RJ Barrett had twenty
six points? Zion? What were his numbers? But anyway, I'm
sure he was good. I have to check that out.
(01:26:43):
But um yeah, So the other big story, we got
a few big stories. You got the obviously duke with
Zion and RJ Barrett, John Morant his emergence. I guess
if you want to throw in the UC irvine, I
mean thirteen ups in the four. Yeah. But the bigger
story though is tom Izzol, which is still a raging
(01:27:07):
fire from Michigan State coach Ran Yeah, who you know,
came out charging it hard, you know, yelling at Aaron
Henry and it got a lot of reaction all over
the country and people went crazy. And Chris, I want
you to give us your take again. I honestly, Rob,
(01:27:31):
I didn't think it was a big deal. Um. I
thought he yelled at the kid, and he yelled at
him strong, and that can can be a part of coaches.
There are coaching coaches that don't do that, but there
are plenty of coaches that do do that. I'm not
gonna try to compare myself to these guys because I
didn't play big time college basketball but all through junior high,
(01:27:55):
high school, and when I played basketball in college at
the lower level, I got yelled at and and everybody
got yelled at. And it was a part of coaching.
When I first signed up to play football in the
third grade, all the older kids, y'all, you gotta be
ready to coach, going, Yeah, it's gonna be yelling and
you know, and that was just something you expected and
(01:28:17):
it's part of it, and that I'm not. I'm not
one of those that, oh, just because I went through
it it makes it right, because there are a lot
of things I went through that I don't think are right.
But as far as coaching, I think the line is
when you're putting your hands on a kid, you're using
racial slurs, you're getting personal, you know, insulting him something
(01:28:39):
about him personally, you know, things like that. And I
thought what is Oo did was was fine. I thought
it totally crossed the line, especially when you run up
to a kid with a bald fist, like, did you
see the anger in his I mean I can't. I'm
not a body language exit. Oh I saw it. I
can't see. It's not about being about it. We're not
(01:29:00):
in the court of law. I'm talking about what I
saw with my eyes. See somebody, I mean, no, I'm
ever somebody's angry. It's gonna look there's no way you
sing at my kids and you catch it in one
one moment. No, I watched the video. I saw the
whole thing and he had his fist. What is a
fist for? If you want to that's not coaching, that's
being a bullet saying he was gonna hit the kids.
(01:29:22):
I don't know. I think he wanted to. And then
they sit down, they sit down, they sit down in
a huddle, and he lunges at him. Again. What is that?
That ain't coaching. Show me one video of coach k
doing that garbage one just because he doesn't do it,
no coach. And here's the other one the coach. I
wanted to read this. I wanted to read this. This
(01:29:43):
is what I love. Jay Billis, who looks out for
the athlete. So are we gonna read everybody? No, because
because about you can read that's fine. Michigan State players
are yours. I want to I just gave you mine.
I just want to read this because I think it's important.
And that's all. Jay Billis just said that and I'm
(01:30:04):
gonna read the whole thing. I'm not gonna edit it.
I know Tom is on where he's coming from. He
has a track record as a coach and it's a
great one. It's about what is said, not the volume.
For a young coach coming up. I wouldn't recommend a
similar approach, like it or not. Things have change and
coaching has changed. Young coaches need to adapt methods. That's
(01:30:27):
all he wrote. So what I'm saying is that might
have worked before, it doesn't work anymore. People are more
sophisticated and people don't just buy in because he's an
authority figure. That's how we got to the meet too movement,
where people who are authority figures and you didn't want
to go against them. People now speak up against authority
(01:30:47):
figures people when they're doing wrong. That's why so many
things went bad. That's why Bobby Knight was allowed to
turn into the monster Night. No, that's when he turned
into a monster because everybody made an excuse for Bobby
Knight chair. They made it an Excusebby Night with that
showed up with a with a whip. Why you comp
you compare. I'm just saying that they allowed they allowed
(01:31:11):
Bobby Knight to get to that point and like that
from day one. He wasn't choking out kids from day
What's up eighteen eighty one? How hard he coached. I'm
talking about physically touching people. And you don't think he
did that in the seventies, Okay, don't your history. I
will sorry because I never saw it. I'm just telling
(01:31:33):
you won't be shown. That. The why he got fired
because he finally did it to a kid. He wasn't
even on the basketball team. Every sub kids said hey night,
and he went into a rage because he didn't call
him coach Night or or mister Knight or whatever, and
he choked the kid. That's how he lost his job.
Every little development in twenty nineteen isn't that doesn't mean
(01:31:54):
it's right just because oh it's twenty nineteen. We do No,
some things in the past were fine. Everything wasn't wrong
back then. Nobody said it was. But we've gotten smarter
and better as people and we treat people. Yes, we
have gotten softer. No that we've got What does that mean?
If we hear that, all it means ain't yelling ye
(01:32:16):
that ain't got nothing. Now, whether you can yell out
of yet be great, I saw about yell at you. Right,
it's fine, but this is a debate conversation. That's all right,
there's a authority, is fine. No, not when you want
him to a kid. No, you want to to a
kid with your fist up self said it was okay,
(01:32:37):
your kids gonna say it. All those kids are all
those kids are brainwashing because because we went to some
one kid comes in and gives him a scholarship and
comes into the hole. He was beholden to that guy.
And I'll tell you this, the problem is offering him
a scholars kid. These kids gonna went to another thing
already there he knows he did mess up his old
(01:32:58):
career there and he read didn't have to choose time
he went. But once he was there, he can't go back.
He knew that he can't do it. Oh, he didn't
know his own. He didn't yeller. He didn't know his
O was gonna ball up his fish and try to
sock him in the Mizo was a yeller, I'm telling you,
and sand his own has been doing that forever. And
they don't think. Nobody ever thinks that's gonna happen to them.
I stop it. I went into college knowing I was
(01:33:19):
gonna get yelled at. Let's stop making panties out of people.
That's all macho Chris Basso go whatever the flat foot
You not the guys wash. You're not the guy dropping
dead at fifty five and can't play with their kids.
So it's all. That's it, And I'm the macho football league.
(01:33:45):
Oh I can't ye. Everybody's made a ceramic. They're gonna
crack snow flakes. They're made seven seven ninety nine on crystol.
You yell at him, they're gonna fall apart. Couple of

It's from the seventies, late seventies, early eighties. It is
actually but take a guess. I've heard this um Parliament.
(01:35:58):
It's one of his first mixtapes, came out with his
Oh that sounds like, oh Prince, Yeah, I can hear it.
Well done. I remember that song. I know my movies,
I know my Moosa car. I actually think Princess. I'm
probably in the minority. I think Prince's best song was
his first hit, I Want to Be a Lover. Oh yeah.
(01:36:19):
I mean he had other great ones, don't get me wrong,
they were all great, but this I Want to Be
Your Lover's my favorite Prince song. This mixtape is probably
his best too. It's just called Prince. He was. People
were mad at your favorite song, sure, real mad at
you for that? Yeah, Like that's your favorite and and
I love when you said that. Yeah. And I love
(01:36:40):
Little Red Corvette. And I loved nineteen ninety nine. I
mean he made a lot of them all but life
that was Rasberry Barret. I really like all right eight
seven seven ninety nine On Fox, we welcome you into
chiming on this whole Tom Mizzos story, which is like
one of the biggest of course in college basketball in
the tournament. So let's kick it off. Let's start Chris
(01:37:02):
with Andrew and Georgia. You're on the eye couple of
Fox Sports Radio. Andrew Andrew, what do y got, hey, guys? Um,
My thing is, I don't mind the whole yelling. H
you know, I've played and I've coached, and I don't
mind yelling. The thing that I think crossed the line
a little bit is when he had to be held
(01:37:23):
back by his players. I think that was, um kind
of a little bit inappropriate for a coach. Um. That
kind of passes the passion part of it. He goes
straight to anger. I think the question is did he
have to be held back? Well, but the players play.
The player grabbed him to kind of hold him back.
(01:37:44):
But I don't know that he had to be He
was looking like like you've seen players want to fight
and they have to be held back. Andrew didn't bother
you that he came up to the kid to uh,
Aaron Henry with his fist balled up like like just
like in I don't know to look on his face.
Other pictures of another coach with with your fist bought
(01:38:04):
up there. I'm just saying some people just what I'm
saying with with that look on his face and just
how it just seemed like he was just so angry.
Andrew didn't bother you. I think any time that a
coach shows that type of aggression in a physical way, um,
I think that's not okay. I think you can get
(01:38:25):
a player's attention um with you know, raising your voice
or um, doing things of that nature. Um. But the
moment it started getting physical, to even even to put
it in your player's uh mind that they have to
hold you back, I think that that gets, you know,
a little bit sketch. You there. All right, Andrew, Let's
(01:38:45):
go to Joe in California. Joe, you're on with Chris
and Rob. Hey, how's it going, guys? What's sound great? Hey?
First of all, I just want to say, Rob Parker,
that's probably one of the softest things I've ever heard
in my life. Soft wow? He would you know what
this stuck onto my back? You know? Say, that's the
(01:39:07):
showing that you never played the competition sport at all.
Maybe you're on the chess team in high school. Enough
about it? No, that ain't it. Trust me, I've had coaches.
I know all about it, but I just I just
thought it's across the line with this. I know coaches
are yelled at players and all all that. I thought
Ezel went off the handle. I don't know where all
that anger came from. He was angry, he was, but
(01:39:29):
I don't there's not wrong with being angry. Richard Richard
in Vegas. You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Richard? Hey, So I just want to train.
And I thought that was the greatest thing you ever said. Uh,
we're turning these kids into a bunch of pans. He's
absolutely And your whole thing about authority, yeah, I disagree
(01:39:52):
with that. That's the whole reason that there is no
reason to disrespect authority. Coach has earn that respect. Hey, Richard, Well,
I just want to I want to ask you a question.
You could continue. Have people of authority ever abused their authority? Okay,
all right, I just want to make sure, Okay, go ahead,
(01:40:16):
then that right, Bobby, Bobby Knight earned that right. Now,
Why you keep bringing up Bobby Night because he abused authority? Yeah,
but he's not comparing Bobby. Just say Richard said he
earned agree with what Richard saying is that there's never
any reason to disrespect. That's what I'm saying. Times there is.
I don't think this was a case of it, but
(01:40:37):
sometimes there is. But I think his point authority is important.
You know, you can't have any type of structure in
any society Julia School a team without some type of authority,
and sometimes you have to go against it when that
guy runs a muck. But that happened, yeah, and we don't.
I don't think it's a random muck. Albert in Dallas,
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's
(01:40:58):
up Albert? Hey on couple, Big family, you guys, listen
you guys all the time while at the hostile stocking stuff. Um,
thank you. But as far as to my um um
my comments on the situation, I'm gonna agree with Chris
on this um and I'll use the testim testimony for sure.
I grew m with a dad who was very ridiculous
(01:41:19):
about how things were done around the house. And have
I ever uh, for um, what an example for to
take out the trash um one week? You'd be very
hard on me. And it was. It was a weird.
It was weird thing like, well, Dad, it's just a
it's just a smart Why why are you so um
hard me? And as I got older, I kind of
got like the message who was madness? So um couldn't
have been? I guess a little nice? I mean, I guess.
(01:41:42):
But as far as the constructive criticism, I really have
a firm lawyer of it, because it's maybe the man
I am today, And as as long as a coach
and I read the started earlier, I hope he was
an assaulting to the kid like most of like more like,
oh you're here, you're touching about kids. You're not doing
the correct play. But if you if you only talk
about the plate, so I don't think you so harm
to that cosnal chrech organization to that. All right, Albert,
(01:42:04):
thank you, we appreciate. Let's go to Mark in Las Vegas.
Mark you on with the odd couple. Hey, brothers, how
you guys doing great bad tasted, great show, great stack. Hey,
I played division to basketball, he says, Chrich. You know,
one time I'm coming up the court, my coach was
yawning at me. He fit was flying in his faith
in my faith, and he when we sat down for
(01:42:27):
the bench and he was pointing at me too. So
I'm like, man, I can understand totally what uh that
player was Michigan State was going through. And I totally
understand that today's society, it's not gonna fly with with
social media and everything just stink. If the coach for
UKA did that to the women, he would be fired
(01:42:48):
right now. And so you gotta understand the time and
the place. I'm from old school Christian, old school Robie
from old school. I understand that definitely as that you know,
I understand what going on. And and I was like, man,
I think if the coaching Yukon did that for women,
know that Gino, I mean, I believe. I don't. Look,
(01:43:11):
I'm not, I don't follow college basket women's basketball like that,
but I think Gino was known for being harsh. Now
I'm not saying he's done anything like it. I don't.
I don't think I've ever seen being harsh. I believe
with his players, let's go to Mark and lost none
at all. I'm sorry. Jared Jared in North Carolina Jared
Jona with christ and Rob Jared Jared because my name
(01:43:40):
is Dirrik Okay. It was a mistake. I enjoyed the show.
You guys constantly do an awesome job. First, I just
want to tell you guys that thank you. I appreciate it. Yeah,
I got I got a question for you guys because
I'm kind of on the fence with this because I'm
old school. I don't mind a coach drilling there um
(01:44:01):
their player, um, but I don't like the fact that
the coach, coach Izzo, did that. But let me ask
you guys this, what if a player did what coach did,
be if he would be suspended and be off the
team and you can't their different. Look, the authority figure
(01:44:23):
is the coach. Yeah, a player can't go off on
a coach like that. I mean, it's just out of line.
And that's a good part the same. Let me tell
you something, kids, Obviously they're both human beings, but there's authority.
It's in side. What if the coach made the wrong
call or call the time out, blew the game, and
(01:44:43):
a player went off and said, what are you doing?
You blew the game? You can't coach and he went off,
that kid would be chastised, He would be ripped to
shreds and wouldn't be playing. It's one thing to say,
something like I say, I told you I said something
to my coach, you know, and uh, you know I
didn't get in trouble or anything, but I didn't go off.
(01:45:03):
You had a smart mouth, yeah somewhat. Yeah, I do it.
I work with you every day, I know. But no,
it's different. They're not. The coach is the authority. And
when you're in you know, you're the player. You can't
go off on your coach like that. All right, Up next,
Jay Rude, our friend j Rude of MGM Sports. Oh

What up? Yeah? What isn't happening? Man? Right? Well, we'll
start right there. What how would you Garris the first
(01:49:01):
two days of the NCUBAA tournament from a betting perspective, Um,
from an operator's perspective, yesterday was really good. We Uh,
we had a solid day, I think uh. Um, you know,
the first to fifteen bet A lot of people are
really getting involved in that. They love that. Today. Uh,
Gardner Webb was the first to hit fifteen in that
(01:49:21):
matchup at a really juicy plus five twenty five price,
So a lot of people were pretty excited about that.
But overall the tournament, it's really strong. Handle is up
volumes or through the roof. We're getting good action and
all the other jurisdictions that we opened up sports betting
in and um, you know, I don't know if baseball
(01:49:43):
is America's pastime anymore because the shirt in the hell
looks like college basketball is well, at least this time
of a year. Absolute say that. Come on, man, come on,
I see you in Vegas. We noticed is one of
the biggest betting weekends of the year for Vegas. So
what would you say, is the percentage or just a
(01:50:06):
tournament this weekend? Like as far as the bets being taken, Um, yeah,
I mean we're gonna you know, the Super Bowl did
about one hundred and forty million in the state of Nevada.
This year, I think we're going to easily do one
hundred and eighty to two hundred million in the state
of Nevada, which you know, when you really think about it,
fails in comparison to what's bet unfortunately in illegal environments.
(01:50:31):
But you know, I think if anyone, if anyone, would
step into the mirage this afternoon and take a look
at the excitement and all the humanity and the fund
that everybody's having, it's it's an unparalleled environment to bet end.
That's for damn sure. Is a visit to a Las
Vegas sports book beats the hell out of sitting on
your couch betting with a with a you know, either
(01:50:55):
a regulated or unregulated environment because you have so many
choices to do it so much fun, and you know,
the electricity in the air is unbelievable when these teams
are playing, and when a Cinderella or a or a
lower seeds really pushing an upper seed, it's it's it's
it's great. It's like being in the arena, but better
(01:51:16):
because you're getting you know, free drinks. Jay, here's the thing. Okay,
So with with uh gambling becoming legal in all these
states that are going to take part in it, do
people do you really believe still that most people would
rather uh not go to the legal the legal establishments
and we'll stick with their illegal Is there a reason
(01:51:38):
like is it because of taxes? If you win too
much money or something? What do you what do you
what's your feel for that? No? I mean I think,
you know, our biggest competitor is not going to be
other operators operating in legal environments. It's going to be
the offshore operations. And um, you know, I think, well,
you know, that's why when these new jerseyictions come online,
(01:51:59):
need to be competitive from the standpoint of taxation and
the fees that they're going to be charging. And that's
why you know when they talk about, you know, the
fees that the leagues want to charge. Everything. All this
is going to take its toll on the legal operators
and it's going to erode the bottom line and make
it easier for the illegal operators continue to operate because
they're not going to have to deal with that kind
of overhead. But when it comes down to it, you know,
(01:52:23):
I think if the leagues really stick to their guns
and don't allow these operators and these illegal jurisdictions to
have access to this data that's going to start to
come out of the leagues. You know, the servers that
collects all this data and sends it to all these
media outlets and all these data providers. You know, we're
going to have a competitive advantage in the legal environment
(01:52:44):
because we're going to be able to offer bets that
are tied to that data. And you know, you also
run the risk that the operation that is not in
a regulate environment could close shop and your money could
be gone in a heartbeat. Jay, obviously Duke is the
public darling. But where's the biggest liability for Vegas outside
of the Blue Devils? Man? I was really hoping we
(01:53:07):
were going to knock it down today too, But Virginia's
our biggest liability to win the tournament at this point, Um,
and they you know, with that first half performance, I
thought we were gonna have a shot at a at
a historical double double that we've never seen before. But
you know, they're they're big liability for us, and right now,
you know, because they were two hundred and fifty to
(01:53:27):
one and they look pretty darn good. Oregon is a
big liability for us. A lot of people are bet
in Oregon after they got a good look at them
in this first game, we lowered them down I believe
one hundred to one, which wow. Yeah, so you know,
they look pretty good. They got a nice matchup coming
up in the next game, so it's not it's not
(01:53:48):
unrealistic to see uh, you know, them in the sweet
sixteen or even further. You know, they're really starting to
come in their own right now, Jay, what about the underdogs?
You're doing well so far eighteen eight and one versus
the spread. How is that impacting the sports books? Yeah,
you know, I'm we're doing pretty good. You know. Fortunately,
you know, some of the dogs that the public is
(01:54:10):
on haven't quite got there. And you know, we're we're
having a good tournament. You know, we're winning somewhere in
the neighborhood of you know, seven eight percent, which is
about where you want to be, right. I mean, we're
not we're not killing the customer. We're offering a service. Uh.
You know, our theoretical hold on a minus one ten
proposition is you know, about four and a half percent,
So you know, I've been I've been in tournaments where
(01:54:33):
we've gotten destroyed, where we've lost, you know, twenty to
twenty five percent, and I've been a part of tournaments
where you know, we've held almost thirty percent, and it
really doesn't work great that way. You need an atmosphere
where you know we we do well. We provide a
really good service, a fun, entertaining product, and everybody that
has a great time. Jay John Morant has been maybe
(01:54:55):
from an individual standpoint, the biggest story of the tournament
so far. However, better is reacted when you look at
their matchup on Saturday with Florida State. Yeah, um, I
think we're gonna need Florida State pretty big. I mean
what they did in that first game was pretty impressive.
And I mean this kid is writing his own contract
right now for the NBA. That's for name sir um.
(01:55:17):
And I think we're gonna be big seminal fans because
I think we're the public is really gonna back Murray State,
and um, you know, there's worse spots to be in
right than to be rooting for a floord seed. But
I think it's going to be a heck of a game.
And if if he has a game anywhere close to
(01:55:38):
you know what he's capable of doing. You know, Florida
State might not even be in the same zip code. Well, Jay,
we always appreciate the knowledge. Mass thank you, great weekend,
All right, appreciate it, guys. Yep, still looking for you
to come out here. Oh yeah, yeah, I'll let you
know pretty soon. Definitely, all right, all right, o man,

Rob Parker all time, Jam right here, Mary, Jane, Mary
to James. Oh look at that Liberty mate. Both free
throws and Liberty about to down Mississippi State four twelve.
See Liberty fiftee. Mississippi State. Liberty up by four with
(01:56:41):
three points left the big dude number zero. Did you
I picked Liberty? You know what you picked? No, I
don't mind take a look at it tonight. I'm gonna
catch up. All right, Let's get to a few calls.
You're gonna let you guys weigh in one more time
on the time is a thing. Let's start with Rob.
I'm sorry Ron in Alabama arrest and you're all with
Chris and Rob. Hey, guys, Harry, I'll do it well.
(01:57:04):
I'm old schools. About old schools, you did, I'm fifty
five years old, same as right. Grew up in the South,
played football with Tony Robinson at Leod High School and
h in Tallahassee. And that was an old school coach.
He was Gene Cox. I think he played with Lee
(01:57:26):
Corso at Florida State forties and fifties, back when Burt
Reynolds played with him. But anyway, I was a fourteen
year Marine Corps metrium and in combat. My first war
was a desert storm, and you know, that's about the
epitome of leadership and when it when the bullets start
(01:57:49):
flying and it's actually life for death. I heard mister
Izzo's response, you know, and he was like baggs out
the door. I understand that and everything, but you gotta
have a measure of restraint because that type of when
that when you're subordinates see you, even if you didn't
(01:58:10):
hit the guy or whatever, act like you did, that unfortunately,
is one place to trickle down system work. They the
subordinates think it's okay to do that. I'm just so
you're saying, Ron and we appreciate the call that that
basically keep him going. I wanted to ask we just
want to ask. I want to ask him how, but
I'm thinking he was saying that that that, uh, it's
(01:58:33):
such a bad it's such a bad example because the
subordinates see it and they think that that's acceptable behavior.
And I get I wanted to ask him because you
brought up Jay Billis's quote earlier in the show about
how it's different nowadays you can't do that. Um. I
want to ask him how the discipline or you know, yelling,
screaming whatever in the Marines has maybe changed over the years,
(01:58:56):
because I bet they don't do I'm sure they're still
a harsh and discipline. No, I probably I agree with that.
Let's go Christian and Evanston Illinois, Christian, you know with
christ and Rob Hey guys, um great Friday. By the way, Um,
I've um Northwestern, so I see a lot of comme
ezo games. And this is just how he acts. Um.
(01:59:18):
But I'm not excusing the behavior necessarily. But if he
saw the tweet by Aaron Henry today, he thinks that
Chris Carter, who are first things first? He put a
bulls eye on that. This is just their relationship. This
is how it goes. Um. But Chris said when he
when when Izo went to his parents' house and recruited
(01:59:39):
the kid, he promised to make a man out of
him and help him growing. He has a father, doesn't
I don't know, Honestly, I don't know. I thought he
has a father in his life. I mean that then
the father like the coache but Christian, but unless say
you can't get Aaron Henry was all I'm telling you
(02:00:00):
know he did more than he swung at him. He
didn't hit him like rop he did swung at the kid.
Did he not make a jesture have a job if
he swung it? Did he not make a just a kid?
And did do you really did he have jumped at
him again? And when do you really think if Tom
is a Christian, him up with him? I'm a blind question.
(02:00:20):
If too swung at this kid, he didn't really think.
He still did not take did he not take his
all hand too his midsection? Yes, he did not swing it.
Go ahead, go ahead. He never he never touched him.
And Tom Mazo is an old man with like a
grumpy attitude. So you just gotta expect that he's not
going to touch the kid. But it doesn't mean that
he's not gonna get upset if he makes mistakes, which
(02:00:41):
he It sounds like Aaron Henry made some mistakes and
Aaron Henry realizes that he did after after it happened.
But Christian Henry could have chose another type of coach. No,
but those time is that. But you never think it's
gonna happen to you. I don't care what. No, you
don't I did. No, you thought it was gonna happen
to me. You thought the guy was gonna do that
embarrass you up on a national television. I'm not never
(02:01:04):
put it on national time. What I'm talking about the
way he thought he was going to be single the
coach that I might get yelled at yes, single that
What are you talking about singled out on national television
in the game or national time. I'm talking about what
I'm saying, questions than yelled at when you when you
play a sport. I'm telling you there's a lot of
players that I talked to today who do There's a
lot that Big Tom mizzles out of line, and there's more.
(02:01:28):
I don't think he's no, there's more than Evan in Virginia. Yeah, dog,
you know I'd be so upset if my coach wasn't
yelling at me. I want to know I'm going to
war with this man that cares so much that he'd
be got emotional and he's ready to school me. And
whatever happened to them old sinbadbox commercials where you know
(02:01:51):
it ain't no foul if you don't hit the ground
and get bloody. You know what I'm saying, Like, let's
go man. If that was the case, Bobby would still
be coaching. If this was such a good if this
was such a this was such a good way, He's
still be coaching. But you got still because ridiculous compare
not ridiculous. He's not. He did nothing like Bobby Knight
(02:02:12):
I'm just saying Night threw a chair across and everybody
said that he choked the kids. Bobby, Bobby Knight, Bobby's
old school. Who's everybody's old If everybody said that, he
wouldn't have got fired. No, he got fired because he
didn't get fired for choking the player. He got fired
for choking a student and the student body. That's how
Bobby Knight got fired. Obviously he choked the kid up
on the team and they didn't fire business. He won championship. Okay,
(02:02:36):
don't he reason it is because he to you to
compare time is I'm just saying Bobby Knight did absolutely
Oh it's not. I'm saying that. That's how Bobby Knight ludicrous.
That's how he got absolutely No, that's how. And he
coached that way from day one, and it was wrong.
He was wrong, and he got ultimately got it. You
don't want to be an enabled to get Tom Missell
(02:02:57):
to that point. And that's what I'm saying. You gotta
stop guys say this is not their coaches, that you
gotta stop them. That's like saying you can't spank your
kids because say that some parents went too far. No,
those kids that's exactly what those people go to jail
and they need to. Adrian Peterson spank this kid and
where everybody want to spend the jail. You get suspended
from doing it, and Bobby Night got fired. Okay, that's
(02:03:19):
just so. I'm just saying Adrian Peterson went too far.
I can't spake my kids. No, I justn't say that.
But if you go too far today, I'm saying that
Tom Mason goes too far. Don't if they should being buried.
Don't even know their kids because they might go too far.
