(01:32):
myself and my man Rob Parker. You won't be disappointed.
We got Lamar Mitchell coming on early. You know, he's
the MGM Grand Racing Sports Book director. A lot of
you guys who got to meet when I was in Vegas.
He's a short guy like Rob G. You know he's
actually he's actually even smaller than Rob Believe it or not.
Why are you all on Rob gez husky? Actually Lamar's
(01:55):
husky too. He's huskier the picture. I mean it was
a little different. He's a He ain't fat though, No
husky Okay, like Rob G whatever was fat? When I
met him up, I had the same reaction to when
I first met Rob G. I wanted to pick him up.
You want to pick him up? Shaking? All right? You
(02:18):
heard Rod Parker. Let me say something about Rob Parker
last Why I'm gonna give Rod Parker credit. I'm gonna
give you credit. Yesterday, of course, was the day I
bought you You're Air Jordan's for winning our World Series betwelve,
and I got a text that you were going to
be not the hip boat, the hating his brother of
(02:40):
all time, but the boat the most unbearable brother of
all time. And I gotta give you credit. You weren't.
You were gracious in victory Yesterday and uh, it really
wasn't that bad losing two hundred dollars. But I didn't
rub it in your face because I appreciate it. That
was a big You didn't yesterday? What did I do today?
(03:01):
But today you're wearing the Jordans all up in my grill.
Why shouldn't I wear all we we had our meeting
to playing the show when you got your feet up.
Look at you got your feet up all in my
face with your new air Jords on. So I'm gonna
break the news to you, Rob Parker. What you know
(03:21):
there are a lot of people that make fake air Jordans.
What are you doing? I got those on the streets
of Inglewood, California for thirty books. No they're not Jordan's,
they're wardens, all right? How could you do that? You
would go and welch and give me fake Jordans. I'm
(03:42):
gonna call your wife. I saved a hundred and seventy dollars.
I'm gonna call your wife and tell her to have
a wedding ring of praise because it's Cubic's accordia. It
ain't even real when I bought her wedding ring. But
it takes the real story. I was a senior in college,
so it didn't cost that much because you didn't have
not expensive. I actually the thing got changed back when
(04:04):
I was looking for I was looking for validation. Is
this the right thing to do? Lord? Really? As Kurt
to married me and I went iman, this is a
true story. I went to the mall and I saw
that this ring was really it was regularly priced at
almost five thousand dollars, so, you know, but on sale
for two. I said, it's a side. It was fifteen hundred.
(04:29):
It's a side. I was young, I was young in
the Lord, I mean, my Lord, where'd you get fifteen
hundred dollars from? I had a credit card? Oh did
you say you had to put it on credit? On
the credit card? They know what you had? Cash? Lane? No, no, no, no, no, no.
You know what when I bought my wife's wedding ring,
(04:50):
I can remember because I was covering the Mets game
at Chase Stadium. I went that Sunday morning. I went
to the Diamond District in Manhattan. You know you probably
no I did because I was at that time, you know,
I'm working whatever, I'm making money. And when I brought
it in the first female who I saw that day
(05:11):
was Claire Smith from the New York Times. Yeah. Yeah,
So I wanted to see what Claire thought of the ring.
So I had it because I bought it, you know,
got there that morning, went bought it, and then went
to go cover the game. So I had it with
me and I showed it to Claire, and Claire started
to cry when she saw it, so I knew I
had the right ring. She said, this is absolutely beauty.
(05:33):
Nobody cried when they saw they were checking it. They
were just checking it to go it's this glue or whatever.
So can you say how much you pay? Yeah? No,
I was. It was like seven or eight thousands. That's
a lot of months. Na, that's a lot that was
back in the nineties. So you didn't get it back
when you No, I would have, like I did you ask? No,
(05:55):
I didn't ask for it back. If I got it back,
I would have cashed it in and taken the money. Yes,
I wanted all back in single. I will say this
for all the listeners though, and Rob, this is why
he's laughing, because otherwise he'd really be upset if he
actually if there was a chance that they were fake
(06:16):
knew that he thought what I was saying was fake. Uh,
he went and bought his own Jordans. I just reimbursed you,
and you didn't really. Most people were impressed by one thing,
how quickly it was done, Like it wasn't like you
what no, no, no, no no, All right, let's welcome into
our couple of cool. Wouldn't be able to do this
fine radio program without him. Rob g is our producer
(06:38):
as always, Alex is back in the saddle. He's our engineer.
Steve de Sagers at the anchor desk. He'll keep us
updated throughout the program. Sam is our intern and yes,
Elijah is our social media guru. So they were all
on the other side of the glass. Come on, Chris,
bust on this Friday. Let's kick some ass. R Parker.
(07:01):
I woke up today as I always do early in
the morning when I'm doing Undisputed, shout out to Skip
Bayless and Shannon Sharp and Jenny Taft, and I turned
on First Things First and get up, and you know,
I like to see what's going on and hear what
people are saying and all that. And people are raving
(07:24):
about Jimmy Garoppolo and look, I'm a Jimmy Garoppolo fan.
This guy sixteen and two as a starter, nothing to
sneeze at. But can we hold the phones that raving
because he had four touchdowns last night through for three
(07:45):
hundred and seventeen yards, his first game over three hundred yards,
by the way, this year in a victory, a twenty
eight twenty five victory over the Cardinals. Can we slow
down a little bit like Jimmy g and I like
the forty nine Ers, but stop it with they're the
best team in the league. I'm gonna give you credit
(08:07):
for this. Rod Parker, You're big on strength of schedule,
and that's smart because the forty nine ers strength of
schedule is weak. They have beaten two winning teams, the
Los Angeles Rams and the Carolina Panthers. Now they smash
the Panthers, I give them credit, and they handily beat
(08:27):
the Rams twenty to seven. But listen to the other
six teams they've beaten Tampa Bay terrible, Cincinnati terrible, windless,
Pittsburgh terrible, Cleveland terrible, Washington terrible, terrible. Well, they aren't winless,
they won one, and Arizona. Those six teams are combined
(08:49):
eleven and thirty four. So if Rob Parker, if you're
about to sit here and tell me, oh, the Patriots
has gotta be killing them, Jimmy G is just tearing
it up on the left coast. But this is what
Belichick was talking about. Save it because the New England
(09:14):
Patriots are still ranked number one in every single power ranking.
No the man except the hit boats. So don't give
me the Jimmy G. I like Jimmy G. But they're
fine with the goat. They're not fine, are you, kidny?
Here we go. If I'm a New England Patriots, I'm sick.
(09:37):
I'm watching the future. We got a ten man, hobbled,
forty two year old quarterback who's taking advantage. You want
to talk about the schedule, Tom Brady's schedule is even easier.
They've played just the Buffalo Bills. That's the only team
they've beaten. And Jimmy G. It is way younger you'd
(10:02):
ever chance down the road when the Tom Brady boat
is over. And don't forget we saw the future with
Tom Brady. Did you watch the Super Bowl? No touchdowns,
one pick, one fumble. He was awful. Did they win? Quiet?
Short menu? And that's what I'm telling you how the
(10:26):
men Jimmy G. Short menu is a no. So how
can you knock him? He's done nothing but win. It's
about winning, and I'd rather win with a young quarterback
rather than a grizzled veteran who's on his last leg.
Tom Brady is old news. When Tom Brady was great
(10:47):
great with Randy Moss, they were still using typewriters. Tom
Brady is old freaking old. Let's face it. Look at
his numbers as year. Look at it winning because of
Tom Brady. Tell you about his numbers you wanted because
of the defense. He has thrown for about five hundred
(11:11):
more yards than Jimmy Garoppolo in the same number of games.
Oh what does that come up to divide? At thirty
eight yards a game, he has thirteen touchdowns and four interceptions,
Your boy, Jimmy G thirteen touchdowns and seven interceptions, and
(11:31):
before last night's performance he had nine Touchdow doesn't had
the four touchdowns and on those other three interceptions more
all of those were tips time. So that didn't even
really tell yourself, Ry Parker that if you had to
win one game, Jimmy Garoppolo didn't even enter your thought process. Well,
(11:53):
but now that he's undefeated and he's ey, No, I'd
have to reevaluate. You would resu may they evaluate. At
the end of the day, you'd say, you know what,
get me the go I will give me TV with
the younger guy who has a bigger upside. He's out there.
What is he doing you? He's hanging out with who? Boy?
Who knows who he's hanging out? What's all right? Tom
(12:14):
Brady is home every night with his model wife, drinking
avocado shakes, working out, making sure he's ready for Sunday.
What is Jimmy G doing? Jimmy G is a man's man.
He's out with the porn stars. He's big on a
Saturday night, and then you know what he delivers on
Saturday night and Sunday morning. Is he gonna last eighteen years?
(12:38):
Twenty years? Is he gonna play till he's forty five?
Like Tom Brady, as long as that approval on the
credit card goes through, he'll be there. Tom Brady couldn't
do that. No, Tom can't. Jimmy G is is why
Bill Belichick gave him away. He was so distraught that
he had his hand picked successor to Tom Brady and
(13:02):
they didn't want to pull the trigger. Bill Belichick could
be doing the same exact thing you plug in Jimmy Garoppolo.
He could be eight no with this team the same
way that Tom Brady is. Anybody could do what Tom
Brady is doing with the defense. The defense touchdowns then
the touchdowns allowed. That's how freaking great the defense is.
(13:24):
This ain't about Tom Brady. He's throwing for two hundred
and eighty yards a game. That's nothing. Two hundred and
eighty yards a game. Tom Brady is not the same guy.
You know that. This is about the defense, and you'd
rather have a younger quarterback with a longer shelf life.
And Bill Belichick could have been like, look at what
(13:46):
I'm doing. I'm a defensive guy. This defense is unbelievable
and I'm winning with Jimmy g and people would say
it wasn't Tom Brady, It's about Bill Belichick. Look, and
that's what was taken away from Bill. This is where
I want to pull out of Kleenex, because I think
Bill Belichick's career and legacy was damaged by the older
(14:06):
picking Tom Brady instead of Big did the right thing
because he's as much as I respect Bill Belichick as
the greatest coach of all time. Now he's the greatest.
I've been saying that. He's got the stains as you
like to bring up, but he's still the greatest coach
in NFL history. As much as I respect that. Here's
(14:27):
the record, seven years without Tom Brady as his quarterback.
How many of those years did he have a winning record?
Which you're talking about teams? Can you answer? How did
you go back twenty five? Answer the question twenty five years,
so you're using two winning record winning years in those
(14:48):
seven he was a new head coach who was learning
a job. No, some of that is in New England.
That was early on. When he got to New England,
he had drew bled. You want to look at us,
look at the last decade he had drew bled. So
they went five and eleven, Chris. Then they lose their
first two games and next season with Drew bled. So
Tom Brady comes in to start and the rest is history.
(15:08):
They win eleven games that year and the Super Bowl.
Do you know what act like? Tom Brady is just
a game manager. That's only was last year Brady. It's
just someone you could throw anybody in there. Tom Brady
is the goat. He's a winner. And as much as
I love Bill Belichick as a coach, Brady is the engine. No,
(15:30):
he's not. And here's the perfect example. He going back
to talk about years gone by. When they do your
credit report, Chris, how many years off do they look
on there to see how you've paid your bills? Is
it fifteen years and the twenty years? What has that
got to do with it? It's only the laugh because
it's only the last three years. You don't care about
what somebody did ten years ago. That doesn't tell you
(15:52):
this is good day of financial what you did for
me lately? Jazz, we love, we love true car without
dying in automobile. Don't even bring that madness into this discussion.
And and and all you want to and look again,
this is nothing against Jimmy G. I like Jimmy G.
(16:15):
But they got it. They got their new Jimmy G.
His name is Jared Stidham. You know what you got.
And and when Tom Brady is ready to hang it up,
and I'm telling you the New England Patriots, Tom Brady
is sad recently. He wants he still wants to play
until he's forty five. Good luck, but wants should not
(16:36):
run him out of town after this season. I would
run him to keep Tom Brady like all big time
quarterbacks who had to move on Tom Brady, he's bigger
than any of them. He's not bigger than any old quarterbacks.
Get them. And when he gets shuffled off to Buffalo
or wherever he wants, watch Buffalo, you're gonna be like, oh,
(16:58):
Tom Brady looks aw So if they win a Super Bowl,
did not stop with that, with that or whenever played anybody,
when they played good team, they'll wind up losing Buffalo.
You've been raving about Buffalo and no, and I'm not
letting you off the I'm not letting you off the
hook like that because you sat here in that chair,
(17:18):
you stood up in that spot, you you got on
your high horse. You had your little American Patriots is
of music playing, and you predicted that the New York
Jets are gonna make the playoffs. So no poo poo him. Now,
the Patriots that were on the Jets, they had to
go through the Jets in route to this. Ain't no record,
(17:40):
so you can't have it both ways. They beat the
Jets that you thought were a playoff team, so they
better keep Tom Brady for as long as he'll have them.
I'm telling you I like Jimmy G. But let's slow down.
The Patriots are in fine hands with Tom Brady, all right.
What do you think eight seven, seven ninety nine on
(18:03):
Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty
nine Right now? Do you think the Patriots would rather
have Jimmy G or Tom Brady as their starting quarterback?
You're turned away in We'll keep the conversation with you
going Next, It's The Eye Couple Chris and Rob Fox
Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of The
(18:24):
Odd Couple with Chris Brussar then Rob Parker weekdays at
seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeart Radio app. It's The I Couple on

the ones and twos. And we brought you by Little Caesars,
where you can get a large, thin crust pizza topped
(18:46):
right to the edge with cheese and pepperoni and only
six forty nine at participating Little Caesar's locations plus tax.
We're applicable, all right, let's get to the phone's quickly
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. What do you
think do the Patriots? Are they glad they have TV
twelve or would they rather have Jimmy G. Let's start
with Darby in Augusta, Georgia's Ars Trent, you're on with
(19:09):
the et couple. Hey, Terence Trent wishing well, kiss and
tell you come on school. I love that. I love
that song. He made like two or three really good
songs and fifteen right he was the male char Day, Yes,
very good. That's a good car. I think he was
that big. He wasn't as big as Charon. He wasn't
(19:30):
that sect you but you know, yeah, definitely weren't that
crazy Pat fan. I live in Georgia, but I lived
in Boston in the nineties. I loved my pat I'm
a Patriots fan before I'm any particular player. That's my team.
I love the fact that Tom is Sair. I love
the fact that he's a winning is, you know, undenied
with winning his quarterback ever to play the game. And
(19:51):
but for the past few years when we had Jimmy G,
I was like, we gotta hold on. This is our future,
this is our guy Belichick brewing. This guy, this is
the man. My wife loves that. He's great looking too.
That didn't hurt, right, But every time I rail against
the sky that, Hey, we gotta get rid of town.
We gotta keep Jimmy, gee, what are we doing here?
We go to the super Bowl. Even if we don't
(20:11):
win it, we go. So maybe they know a little
bit more than me. You gotta hold on the Tom Brady,
He's think. Guys, if you got two minutes left, you're
down by six, Who do you want the ball in
their hand? I want the greatest, the winningest guy of
all town. No, I want Adam vine Terry because last
Super Bowl he didn't even get a touchdown. Do field
goals count? No? I'm just asking you, Dorby. You know
count Darby. You know you watched the Super Bowl last year?
(20:34):
Tom By what he was awful in the Super Hey, Darby,
this two words for you? You should have two words
for Rob Park. Here we go, short menu, Thanks something call,
appreciate it. Ben in Bakersfield, California, you're on the odd
couple Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Ben? Hows how's your
day going? Man? How are you good? Thanks for the
(20:54):
vine but Yeah, I gotta If you're going one year only,
you gotta go Tom Brady. He's proven he's a winner.
What has Jimmy Garoppolo proven other than he cannot mess
up a good team. He's it's always Yeah. I'm not
saying Garoppolo is bad. I'm saying that he is proving
he can just keep the keep the tray of the tracks.
(21:14):
He's not going above and beyond and WoT he's sixteen
in two while on the money, Ben's right on the money.
He don't know what he's talking about. How about Jeremy
and Indiana. You're in the odd couple, Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Jeremy? Oh not much? Got a six pack
of beer getting ready to pound it? Oh my man? Enjoy. Yeah.
(21:38):
I think that the Patriots are sitting there. They're happy
about their decision that they made to get rid of Garoppolo. Um,
I mean, they weren't too worried about getting rid of
r Set either, So they're sitting there happy. I think
they're they're just fine where they're at, and they're they're
looking at this year, the next couple of years, we'll
see what happens with Brady. But I think right now
(22:01):
they're happy with it, right, Why wouldn't you be? I mean,
you got a super Bowl last year because because it's
not this year. I mean, my goodness, and your quarterback
is old and decrepit. Can he carry you? Let's go
to Caleb in Minnesota, Calebone with Chris and Rob. Hey,
thanks for having me, guys. All right, First off, I
want to say we are over valuing Jimmy g Right now,
(22:23):
I mean, let's be real. We've seen Fitzpatrick look like
an MVP over eight games. I need a bigger sample
side now he's sixteen to two. He's sixteen two, big enough,
that's more than the Sea down. Go ahead, No, no,
let me touch on Tom Brady real quick. Tom Brady
is teaching Lebron James about load management. Tom Brady goes
(22:46):
on sixteen games to load management every year, gets to
the playoffs and gets it done. Did you watch the
Super Bowl? About? Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did they?
But he won? Until proven otherwise, Tom Brady is the winner.
But for the record, I will say one game only
(23:06):
to win. I'm still taking Rodgers at this point, no
doubt about it. Now and quickly radio, hey man, real
quick man, grab I hope your feet feel good in
those new jords because Chris is serving that ass today. Man,
what are you talking showing? I know you wanted to
(23:28):
write a rhyme, Sean, I know you want Are you
all right? What you sick today? What's wrong? My man?
My man, my man. Jimmy g won eight games against
a bunch of nobody, say even the first time Tom
bradyman eight? No, man, nobody, what are you talking about?
John Lynch? John Lynch even admitted he reached out to
(23:48):
the Patriots asking for Tom Brady trade. You know what
the Patriots him instead. Jimmy freaking because don't nobody wants
this O eight No rag doll Man. Fact, you're crazy.
When Tom Brady has a bad game and they're losing
the playoffs, I can't wait to hear secause they're not
even gonna make it to the AFC. One of your
best calls, Sean. You know what, I might have to
(24:08):
disown you because I think today you crossed the lot.
He's he's he's full of himself because of the Jordan's
he's wearing. I'm feeling good, our man, lamar Mitger again,

it was nice meet you finally. Nice quickly, Lamar, before
we get into the football, are you going to the
big fight tomorrow kova Lev and uh Canelo Alvarez. I
will not be going. I'll be watching in the comforts
of the house, okay, and we'll be checking it out.
(27:40):
Big fight. I'm I'm in who you got in that one? Well?
Uh uh koba Lev didn't make weight, so uh it
doesn't look good for him. But you know, everyone's on Alvarez.
You know, you got a ten year age gap between
these two guys, and uh, you know, just ten weeks
ago Koballev had a blood back in Russia and you
(28:01):
know all the signs are pointing towards Canello. So most
of the money on Canello. Yeah, absolutely, Oh, Cannello definitely
the publify that. Okay. Covid Lev can hit though, Oh
yeah you can, you can, you can? Okay. All right, well,
let's get the football. We Robin I opened the show
talking about Jimmy G Jimmy Garoppolo with the Niners. Rob
(28:22):
says it's killing the Patriots to watch Jimmy G lead
the forty nine ers to an eight, right. I think
these full of hot air. All right, If let me
ask you this, if Jimmy g was in New England
instead of time Brady, how much does the line change
on a week to week basis? Oh uh, let's see
you got there, you got TV, you got TB twelve,
(28:45):
the greatest quarterback of all time, um, and they wouldn't
be as big of a favorite as they are and
a lot of those games that they are because of
Brady's experience. Lamar, it's about that defense they get. They
got four touchdowns that have given up three. It ain't
about Brady it is. It is about the defense. But
still offensively, you still have a somebody that can get
(29:06):
the ball to the weapons that they have, and you
know their weapons are the pleated compared to what they've
had in the past. Like what weapons exactly? The mess
them weapons? That's why is the goat exactly? Like I mean,
we could go out there, run some patterns and he
makes us look awesome. I could catch stop. Well, you
just had a birthday, so happy belated birthday, Thank you,
(29:28):
thank you. It all looks for every one all up
fifty one. Hey, let me follow up with this quickly.
Which undefeated team is tougher to set the line for
and why New England or San Francisco. Oh, that's a
good question. I mean, you know what you have with uh,
you know what you have with New England with the defense,
(29:50):
and you know what you have with the offense and
with the coach. It's a little bit harder for the
U the Niners, only because it's a new experience for
them and you don't know how they're gonna play. You
know how you hear about college kids when they read
the press clipping when it comes to the basketball tournaments.
This is kind of like that same situation with the Niners.
(30:11):
They're a very young team and they can be an
emotional roller coaster up and down, up and now where
you got Belichick leading that team and Brady leading that team,
So it's a lot easier to set the line for
those guys. Plus, you know, as both teams, especially when
the Niners are good like they used to be back
in the nineties, they're popular team too. But you know,
(30:33):
everybody right now is just on the Patriots, So it's
a lot easier to make that number for the Patriots. Hey, lamar,
let me let's talk about the Jets. I thought they
were going to have a chance to have a good season.
Then of course the quarterback at Mono and it kind
of derailed the whole season. But then they go out
at Detroite deadline and basically put everybody up for sale.
Yet there's still a road favorite in Miami because of
(30:55):
the way the Dolphins are playing. How how about how
hard is it set a line for the Dolphin when
and when they look like they're trying to lose you
know what I mean, to get a draft pick. Yeah,
we were. We were talking about that today too, because,
like you said, I mean, the Jets on the fire
sell Dolphins looking like they're just trying to lose every game. Um,
(31:18):
we know the number with the Dolphins. It's always the
sharp money is always going to come in on the
other side. So in this game, here's sharp money's all
on the Jets and there's really not a lot of
public uh money backing the Dolphins at all. So it's
basically the sharps are just gonna bet against the Jets.
Bet against the Jets unless the number is going to
be I mean, bet against the Dolphins less the number
(31:40):
is gonna be outrageous, and really, so far it hasn't
been that far. Where it's been crazy except for when
they played the Patriots the first time and December twenty second,
you'll probably be up all night trying to figure out
this week sixteen Bengals at the Dolphins. Both teams could
be windless trying to lose. Tell me who would be
(32:02):
favorite into in that game? I know that's a little
ways a will Oh my gosh, Bengals at the Dolphins. Yep,
it would be at the Dolphins, so maybe they would
be the favorite. Bengals probably would be a small favorite.
You're real small, maybe one only because we know what
we have with the Dolphins, and we don't know what
we have with this new quarterback for the for the Bengals,
(32:25):
and that's that's going on on a real flimsy limb.
I'm saying that number right now, all right, Lamar. We
got the Texans in the Jacks. This is a tough
one to pick because we're doing it for our pigs.
Can pick off Texans and the Jags in London. He's
not sixty eight, which is still good, but you're dropping.
You're dropping like rain my man. All right, Sunday in
(32:46):
London they play, so nobody's got the home field advantage,
and I know that's a big deal in gambling. What
kind of things do you look for when you set
a line on a game like this, Past history, common opponents,
how early they got into town, oh, all those, all those,
especially with this matchup here because they are in the
same division. So we look at their head to head
(33:06):
matchups with these guys, and especially with Jacksonville because they
played the six games they're they're three and three. We
look at when they got in, the sound and the
power rankings of what the teams are actually doing, you know,
in the season right at that at this time. So
I mean, the money is coming in on Jacksonville. We
(33:28):
opened this game two and it's down to one, but
the ticket account is pretty even. And like I say, Jacksonville,
it is their home home base. You know, the owner
wants to make that his place where that's his home team.
So it's kind of tough when you have a situation
where teams don't play each other. If it was Jacksonville
versus Tampa, that don't play each other, you know, twice
(33:49):
a year. But this is a situation where these two
teams play each other twice a year, and believe it
or not, Jacksonville is one and oh versus AFC South
teams in London, so you know, going for the two
and our record here. So but you know you can't
really in this situation with the Shan Watson. You cannot
go against Shan Watson in my opinion. A ci couple
(34:10):
of Fox Sports Radio, I guess Lamar Mitchell from the MGM.
Grant and Lamar. Let's switch up a little bit over
to baseball. Two weeks ago, the Astros were the biggest
World Series favorite since two thousand and seven. Everybody thought
it was in the bag, like Chris Bissard who lost
a pair of Jordans to me. But anyway, nobody was
given the Nationals a real chance. Wasn't a big loss
(34:32):
for you guys at the MGM, Graham that Washington was
able to come back and win it now, Actually, actually
we needed the Nats to win it because we had
so much money on the Astros all year building up.
And the Nats were, you know, like I said, they
were that team that was writing that chress, that momentum
once they won that first game and the postseason, the playoff,
(34:55):
and you know, nobody believed in them, Like I said,
I mean they swept the Cardinals. Um, nobody believe them.
We gets the Dodgers, So yeah, it was an actually
good decision for us. All right, lamar, great stuff as always, man,
enjoy the fight and enjoy the weekend the next week,
you two guys, all right, all right, a former MVP
could be unemployed in a few weeks. We'll explain next.

November first, not scary anymore? All right? Okay, k I'm
(36:00):
Newton Rob going to see a foot specialist for the
Liz Frank fracture that is not healed properly. You know
what I'd say to him, trying on a pair of Jordan's,
the twelves that just came out. Look at you. They
will feel very good on your foot. I got, I
got three words for you, Manchester and Vaness what a
(36:21):
corner in Inglewood where the brothers be out there husking
all types of stuff? Chris. No, he can't even go
out there in Inglewood. He's afraid to get out the call.
I get mad. No I can't. No, you know, lock
around Inglewood. No bruth sor no Lakers gonna win, clippers
gonna I'm telling you no, what I get loved? Chris
(36:43):
is so your come to the hood. Chris is so
in the bougie area. He rolls his window, he rolls
his window down. What's the folk like? The brothers? Like
the quarter of an hitche And he slipped the dollar
out to a homeless guy to pumpers gas. He's a
phrasing pumpers old gass the central baby. You know you talk,
(37:04):
you know where I'm at. I rock around with my
chest out, walk around like ice Cube used to walk around,
all right, and uh DREI just like Marty sun River said,
you like the white guy. Chris. He's a little young.
He doesn't understand the racial the complicated racial dynamsis sight River.
(37:27):
You got him right in States of America. It wasn't
just your skin color is a tone of what you're
talking about anyway, rister Parker, Cam Newton, he's banged up.
The foot is not healed. We remember we were hearing
what a couple of weeks ago. He was gonna be
ready way right. There's no controversy anymore. Kyle Allen apparently
(37:50):
has the job for a while. They still four in one.
They lost last week. He didn't look as good last week.
That was one of those signs where you're like, okay,
now my send. He can't play. Mean, they got blasted,
I know, but he just he didn't play. It was like,
that's one of those moments when you go if Cam
is healthy, to life, right, gone back to earth. Wait
a minute, Cam's healthy, dude, we gotta get this guy
(38:10):
back in here. It brings you back to earth. But
I'll say this, if I'm the Carolina Panthers and there's
nothing against Cam, this is a business. I'm moving on.
I'm moving on. They can get out of his contract
after this season. He's twenty million nine guaranteed. I'd let
him go. I let him go now. And if even
(38:33):
if Kyle Allen's not your guy, is Cam your guy still? Honestly, Rob,
I know you like him and I like him too,
but come on, he's taking a ton of hits. I
get it. He hasn't looked like the same guy. I
don't think that they you wouldn't move on. I'm not
so sure, because I gotta see if the guy's healthy.
The guys to get healthy first before I can make
a determination. Cam not old. No, he's not old. So
(38:57):
that's the other best. No, I guess hits, I get it.
I'll give you this. This is the one thing I'll
give you that would make me give me pause about
releasing him. If Alan doesn't look good now, if Alan
ladies well, if Kyle Allen plays well the rest of
the season and you know, maybe they make the playoffs
or whatever, and he looks like he can be my guy,
(39:17):
I'm letting Cam go. If Kyle struggles comes back to Earth,
and okay, we still we need a franchise quarterback. It's
not Kyle Allen. Here's the one thing that would make
me think, let's just bring back Cam one more year.
He's only making twenty million. Now that's not a lot
on the days, and he could prove itself and then
you start and then either you could cut bait. Then right,
(39:39):
you still have it for one year. You don't have
to give him an extension. And to get a quarterback. Now,
bad quarterbacks are making seventeen right, oh yeah, yeah, Teddy Bridgewater,
what are they talking about him getting next year? Thirty? Wow?
I mean, but that's how that's that's how hard it
is to get a quarterback though, right, so the values
are pumped up. But what if, let me ask you this,
(39:59):
if Alan and you know, say they make the playoffs,
even if they get beat early, if they make the
playoffs and Alan's played, well, would you cut bait? We can.
I'd have to really be convinced. I just would, because
it would be worth it to just see one, just
get another look. Once he's healthy. Maybe this extended time off, Chris,
(40:20):
he finally heals up a little bit, you know what
I mean, come back. Don't even think they should be
thinking about bringing him. Bring him back, right, ring him back,
have all his time off training camp, he's fresh, he's
gotten a chance, and then say, all right, we're gonna
give him a year we'll really take a look at him.
If he gets hurt or he plays poorly, then we
cut bait. I think it's a no lose. The last
(40:42):
thing you want is that you let him go. He
goes to another team, you know, refreshed or whatever, and
then you go, wait a minute, we had that guy
and we let him go without really giving him one
more look. When he's health here's the thing, that's the
only thing. And he was great that year. He was MVP.
But at his best, he wasn't the most accurate quarterback. No,
but he had forty five touchdowns and a crown. Yeah,
(41:04):
hard to put that. That's you. You brought it up earlier,
when you get your credit score checked. How far back
did you go? I mean now, he told me it
didn't matter three years. I'm just saying, it's only your
last three years. I'm just saying, yes, right, so it
doesn't count anymore. All right, I couple two hours left,
Chris and Rob, you know what to do. Keep it locked.

obviously Cannelo is much younger, but I I want to

make a difference. Hall, Yeah, I think I think it's tough.
(42:34):
All right, So, uh you can follow us on social media.
Rob is at Rob Parker FS one on Twitter and Instagram.
I am at Chris Underscore brucear on Twitter, Chris Bruce
R sixty eight on The Graham All Right, Rob, big
game last night, not just the football with the forty
nine ers edging the Cardinals. But in the NBA, I
(42:57):
couldn't wait to get home. I mean I had it
on on my phone while I was driving, too, But
when I got driving watching while driving, I wasn't watching.
I was just listening. Okay, I'm just looking. I'm tending
to I straight ahead every two seconds, looking at the
weird view mirror, looking at the sivee mirror, blinker on
(43:18):
every time I changed lanes. That's me. You know, driving
in LA you put your head down for a second,
man right and this you see accidents all the time,
no doubt, no doubt. But when I got home, I
checked out the game and then Clippers Spurs. Great game, obviously,
Kawhi Leonard facing his former team, and he came out
(43:40):
like he was facing his former team. He put up
thirty two shots, which is a ton for him, but
he made fifteen fished with thirty eight points, twelve rebounds,
only one assists, which for him, he was averaging seven
and a half enter in the game. Wow. And but
he took over in the second half. He was missing
his mid range shot in the second quarter. Those shots
(44:02):
he was hitting against the Lakers when we went on
opening night he was missing nose, but in the second
half he just took over and they as Spurs. Spurs
got a nice Spurs right, there were three and no
coming into that game, Chris, and they played him tough.
And that's my six. But Spurs are gonna be good.
They're gonna be in the playoffs. They you know, obviously
not gonna have a chance they're winning it, but they're
(44:24):
gonna make the playoffs and be dangerous. But Rob, this
was I said it, and I said again, Kawhi Leonard
deserves the title right now of best player in the world,
and I actually think he's living up to it so
far in this season. But with what he did last year,
(44:45):
obviously winning the championship, no super team remember, just him
in some really good role players, but there were no
first a lot of he picks on that team, not right, right,
that's impressive, And look, I'm I'll say it, you dis agree.
I do think if Klay Thompson stays healthy, obviously with
Kevin Durant, the Warriors win it. But if just Klay Thompson,
(45:08):
I think the Warriors winn it. But there's no asterisk
because a lot of players, a lot of all time
grades have one title. You gotta play with who's out there.
That's a part of sports. Taking nothing away from him,
but he deserves it now. If Yannis snatches that title
from him this year, so be it. If Lebron you know,
resurrects and snatches it from him, if a d does whoever.
(45:32):
James Harden fine, but right now, and not just based
off last year but somewhat, but also what he's doing now,
right it's only HiT's a small Sempi side. But we
saw what he did in Game one against the Lakers.
Were quite impressed. And remember he didn't have his partner
in crime yet either, right, so the focus is on him.
(45:54):
Everybody knows that other guys in't there yet, and still
he's getting off picked time. He is awesome. He best
player in the world right now, absolutely, because he can
do both. He can play both then, yep, And that's
something that's lost in the NBA. There's a lot of
great offensive players. Very few people in the NBA Chris
are committed to playing defense. And you know, defense is
(46:16):
as a commitment of dedication and effort. You gotta want
to It's like I always just to say, with rebounds,
you gotta want the ball, Okay, you gotta really really
want to go after I watched Dennis Robin for years.
He just was he was gonna get the basketball. And
and and you saw Kawhi. He picked Demard de Rosen
picked a couple. I think he had four steels last
(46:37):
night as well. But one thing, and and and the
guys that played And I'm not I'm not trying to
throw shade in anybody, but any guys that played basketball
at a relatively high level, even high school, you know
that there were some guys that you just didn't want
guarding you. And guys that are wrong. They're physical, they're athletic,
(47:04):
they're tough. You know. Sometimes guys that you that kind
of why you might just get hurt. They might just
accidentally an elbow nails you in the face or do
something that hurts you. And that's what I think it's
like to play against, Like I would not want him
guarding the same thing with Patrick Beverley, a smaller guy,
but Paul George a great defender. But Paul, you know
(47:27):
he's not gonna be physical with you. Kawi. I would
hate to look up and see him guarding me, because
that dude is long he's strong, he's quick, big hands
like and I think guys just hate to He's that
type of player. And as you said, he does it
on both ends offensively right and people doc rivers others
(47:49):
have compared him to Michael Jordan. Jordan does think Kauai's
game reminds him of his. Yeah, I do believe that.
And that's not to say that why is George No, no, no,
it's just about It's just about the way they they
play and they go about their business and uh two
the two ends of the floor. Jordan was a great defenders. Defender, Yeah,
(48:13):
great defender. And here's what I like about Kawhi and
one of the connections to Jordan. Kawhi doesn't over dribble.
He doesn't waste dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble
in the clocks going down. It's none of that. He
is two dribbles to the right, pull up, mid rays,
two dribble spin move, pull up like it's with a purpose.
(48:34):
And when you and I came up or even covering
the league, Isaiah Thomas didn't go behind the back to
be fancy. I mean it looked nice and it was fancy.
It was pressed, right, I need to guy, I need
to get around this guy, do something right. He's in
front of me. I'm shaking him between the legs. I'm
shaking him like. That's Jordan was obviously like that, and
that's Kauai and and something else. Watching that game last night,
(48:56):
Rob it was like almost like going into a time
machine or a time warp because the Spurs, particularly with
DeMar de Rosen and LaMarcus Audrene, and the Clippers with
Kauai their mid range bandits like they it's not all
about the three with those two teams, right, and and heck,
(49:17):
Kevin Durant same thing. Great three point shooter two, but
the mid range banded. And I like that, like, let
it be look at those teams, look at the Clippers,
and look last year, look at the Raptors. Yes, you
shoot the three, Kawai shoots the three. There's nothing wrong
with the three. But right, the mid range, if you
can make a basket and give yourself a great chance
(49:39):
at knocking it down, that's gonna help you. Yep. And
I think you're right. Looking at those two teams is
a little different from the rest of the league and
where we are now, which everybody's three happy yep yep.
And Kauai another thing I like about him and again
reminds me of Jordan. He gets his in the flow.
So when Kawai get it's like last night thirty eight points,
(50:02):
it doesn't take away from anybody else. Lou Williams can
still get his. Everybody else, Mintrez Harold, who had twenty
four last night, can still get his. Lou only had twelve.
But Lou obviously has been playing great ball all year,
and I like that. But he didn't within an as system.
It doesn't feel forced where he's taking way too many
(50:23):
shots or he's not looking for teammates. It just feels
natural and you look up. Even in that Laker the
first game we went to Chris, I looked up and
was like, he's got thirty. Like it was like that,
Like I didn't feel like he had taken all these
crazy shots or something. No, he and he fits in
right away. I mean last year, of course, like I said,
(50:43):
he goes to Toronto, they win a championship, no, no
feeling each other out. I fit in, and he missed
twenty two games and still he fit in. It's incredible
when you really think about what he was able to accomplish,
and let's not forget That's why I look at the
Clippers the same way. Now, they didn't have as much
success as Toronto, but Toronto was a good team that
(51:05):
had won sixty probably just as good. Do you know
what I'm saying, Chris, Yeah, Toronto won those sixty games,
but they always got knocked out in the first roundal
by Lebron or whatever. So everybody's like, oh, they think,
oh blah blah blah, but they were really a good nucleus.
And then he fit in perfectly. That's why I think
the Clippers have that chance. That's why I think they're
(51:27):
gonna win it, because it's almost the same exact thing.
They have their framework and their foundation already, and he's
not just just like, oh my god, well, how are
you gonna fit in with the No, he fits in perfectly,
and the same thing with Paul George. Nah, you're right,
you're right. And that's why I look even though I
(51:47):
picked the Clippers, and you know, I mean, yeah, I
picked the Lakers, you know, I'll you know, we'll make
our more picks at playoff time and you know, we'll
see do I change, but I give the Lakers a
good shot. But the Clippers should be the favorites. There's
no doubt about it. They should be the favorite. Now
on the flip side, rob this is this is the
(52:10):
beginning kind of the Lakers bringing it all together. I
know Ray Jean Rondo's still out, but Kyle Kuzma he's gone,
and you know something, if he's got it going, he'll
probably play more than that, right, But I think he
(52:31):
is big because, as you've noticed, Lebron James when he
plays the point this exclusive like he's the point guard.
I don't care what you call him. When he's the
point guard. He doesn't he's not his aggressive looking to score.
And I get that because he's he's gonna play it
like a real point guard and look to get the
other guys going. But if he's playing that way, I
(52:55):
can't just have a d be the only other guy
that can really score it on his own. So I
think Kuzman will be big to come in there and
be that other guy that can get points if Lebron's
laying back and just running the offense and getting everybody
else involved. So if this works, this is creat This
is because the Lakers have more questions robbed than the
Clippers answered him tonight. Exactly. I agree with that, and
(53:19):
you have to wait and see how it all come
together where Kyle Kuzman fits in UM. But obviously the
roster is talented and they're gonna be in the mix,
so that that's not really the question. And it was
funny earlier today I was on M five seventy on
Rogan and Rodney's show, and it was about whether or
(53:39):
not the Lakers, Chris, whether or not them getting to
the finals, getting to the Western Conference Finals and not winning.
Would that be a failure if if they if you
know what I mean, if if they didn't move on,
and I said yes, and from this stampoint only because
they do all a lot of people think they have
(53:59):
the best duo, right I think it's George and Quid,
But but most people follow with you say that those
two are the most talented players together the duo. So
this is not about making the playoffs for the Lakers.
We know they haven't made the last six years, so
that's not the issue. But I really think they are
high expectations and that that would be a bummer if
the Clippers were able to advance and beat the Lakers
(54:23):
if there in the WESTNCOT, would you agree with that
or not agree totally with you? This championship robus for
both las. Yes, okay, I'm with you. The Clippers don't
win it, it's a failure. I agree. The Clippers on
the paper got it right like they If they don't
win it, it's a failure. Absolutely. I'm with period. That's
all there is to it. If the Bucks, now, I
guess you could say if the Bucks get to the finals,
(54:43):
that's another stace. It'll be the next step because they
were in the Eastern Conference finals. Then they then they
get to the finals and maybe lose, and then if
they push through in year three, you say it was
a process and you're cool with it. But for the
Lakers and the Clippers, and those are only two as
I'm thinking about it, they're they're the two teams in
the league where it's championship or bus. I agree. Now,
(55:05):
I would say I would say it's that for the Rockets,
because you know they were close with Chris Paul. It's
not about getting close. But even they could say if
they got to the finals, that's a step, you know,
further than they especially because they made such a dramatic
change in the roster, like they could take that at
an ex step. So yeah, I get so. I think
(55:26):
that I hadn't thought of that, But I think the
Lakers and Clippers, it's championship bus. That's what I said,
and I think they wound up agreeing with me that, yeah,
you know what, this isn't about just making the playoffs
or oh they went to the second round and that
was good for the letting know, and we don't know
what Lebron's gonna be like next year. That's exactly why
(55:47):
the point I brought up. I said, dude, you can
sit here and go, well, it looks like he's just
fine as you're seventeen, next year's you're eighteen, then you're nineteen.
How many years you think it probably right? All right?
You're turning to an eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox?
Do you agree with Rob and I? Is Kawhi Leonard
the best player in the world? Rob? And I say, yes,
(56:11):
what do you say? Eight seven seven ninety nine? On Fox?

nine on Fox eight seven, seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine. Who's the best player in the world?
And I say it's Kawhi Leonard? What say you? Tyler
in Virginia? Welcome to the Eye Couple. Hey, okay, Lebron
is the best in the world. He carried a Cleveland
Cavalier squad from three and one lead against one of
(57:15):
the best teams in history, and Kawhi did that. I
don't think so, Hey, Tyler, that's a great point. The
only problem is we're talking about the here and now. Historically. Yeah, yeah,
of course Lebron aad Kawai. But what about now? Yet
today he averaged twenty seven, eight and eight. How much
(57:36):
is Kawai average. Last year Kawhi won a championship and
Lebron didn't make the playoffs. Tyler, it's a short menu, Tyle,
that's right, even with chicken nuggets, and uh, that's right.
Thank for Colin Oi. He loved that. He's interested in
his horse talk radio. A young kid may want to
(57:56):
be you never know, he Madden Seattle, you're on the
odd couple, Fox Sports Radio. What you got, Matt hey Man,
big fan of you guys. Thank you. And as far
as best player in the world, you know, I have
to give it to Quiet. But my biggest thing is,
you know what if you put him in Lebron against
each other one on one, who would win that battle?
I would have to do to Lebron and that time
(58:17):
do you mean like in a literal game of one
on one? Yeah, yeah, literal game of one on one
because everybody always brings it down to that. Like when
Kobe and Lebron were in their primes. You know, everybody said,
well it could be this guy, but if you put
up one on one, you know, I think this guy,
this is gonna be the outcome. So in history, I
think Lebron still has that edge. But Kawhi is definitely
(58:39):
up there. I would say, first of all, I would
not judge the best player in the world by who
could win one on one. I agree, I'm not there.
I don't think that's that. We're just talking about playing basketball,
being on a team, what he does and he does.
But beyond that, and now look again in their primes. Yeah,
I'm taking Lebron over Kawhi in a game of one
on one two, But right now, I don't know. I mean,
(59:00):
they're both being and strong. Kawuhi obviously at this point
is a better defender, so it'd be interesting. But I
don't judge guys on who's better than one. Thanks for
to call Matt, appreciate it, Max and Georgia. You on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Max? Hey,
what's up? Fellas? What's happening? I think he's I think
right now he's definitely the best. Um. I'm looking forward
(59:21):
to the to the match against Durant when he comes
back healthy. But that being said, in comparison to Michael,
I mean, only two players in NBA Finals history of
average thirty five points with no turnovers on the road,
and that's Michael and Kawhi. I haven't heard Lebron do that.
I haven't heard anybody else do that. That's a great
point game seven buzzer beater. Yeah it was against Philly
(59:42):
and and and technically he he kind of beat the
Miami Heat Big three. And I know Michael battled the
Celtics Big three, and yeah one's the finals and one's not.
But he also took down the Warriors, and uh, you
know Michael had his battles with the big two's back
then you didn't have Big three. I don't come. I'm
not comparing Kawahi to Michael yet. I'm just saying their
(01:00:04):
games are similar. But Kawhi is not ready to be No, no, no,
he's not. He's not Michael. But but you're right, the
games are the same. Thanks Max, appreciate you. Let's go
to Jamil in New York. Jamial, you're on with Chris
and Rob Hey. Chris Hey, rob Um, big fans, both
of y'all. Ever since the other short that y'all was on,
(01:00:25):
Definitely I definitely involved the Kwie letting the level you
gotta look at it. Also, when Kwai Lennon was on
the Spurs and they was playing against that vaunted Golden
State squad. They had him about thirty two before Jojo
perceive shot stuck his foot out and stuck it on
Kwai Lennon's foot. And who knows what would have happened
(01:00:47):
if they were to finished blowing them out in that
game one with the whole field advantage, going back with
a tough great Popovich and you know the ALBUMO don't
playing the San Antonio. So I'm gonna say this, Jamil,
And obviously we all remember that situation in that game.
I always felt like, man, look, Golden State was not
only gonna come back and win that series. I think
(01:01:09):
they were gonna win that game. But I'll say I'm
just gonna admit this, watching what Kawhi has done since then,
I feel maybe they would have won that game, and
maybe they would have made it a really tough series,
because that dude, he's just everything he touches is turning
the goal since then. And if you're a Spurs fan
(01:01:32):
and you're watching what he's doing, you're saying, we had
this dude. This dude one an MVP of the Finals
for US, won a championship, and now he's all over
the place winning for everybody else that could have been
he was your next day, he would have been your right,
David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard and and there you are,
(01:01:54):
you competing for championships, You're the team in the West,
all the other stuff. That's why, that's why Skip wouldn't
say his name for two years or what I've been now,
you're absolutely right and absolutely right. Absolutely, Let's go to
Marty in Kentucky. Marty, what's happening man? What's having him feelers?
Y'all mentioned Skip. I've seen what he did. I mean,
if he if Skip turned help. You gotta admit that
(01:02:16):
Kawhi is the best in the game right now. I
didn't believe it. Yeah, Skip came out for people, for people,
Marty hold On who didn't see Skip. He came out
the other day was a Thursday in a Clippers Uh
Kawhi jersey and a pair of his new New ballanced
sneakers that dropped today. I think, Yeah, and he calls
(01:02:38):
he started calling him by his name again. Remember he
had been calling him number two for two years. Yeah,
my mouth dropped when I've seen that. I'm glad to
see it. Yeah, Yeah, I like the Jordan comparisons because
even though their personalities are different, ones of trash talker
and one just trash talks you with his eyes. Yep,
they have this competitive We read in them that they're
(01:03:01):
gonna prove to you they're the best and they're gonna
wield their team to win. And that's what I see
similar to them, and I like that comparison. I do
think that the Lakers have a better duo and I
think they have equal teams. But Rob Polinka and Vogel
can't compare to Doc Rivers and the logo. I mean,
(01:03:21):
that's where the difference is. No, that's that's fair. And
if some stuff has to be done at the deadline,
you know, you just give you advantage to the Clippers.
I mean, let's give the Lakers front office credit. They
did when they lost out in Kawhi. They made up
for it, right. I mean, they could have expected to
put together a tim right, and they have to hold
(01:03:42):
it out for so long and being held up and
not moving. Uh. George and Chicago, you're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. Hey guys, first time color
We appreciate you, guys, thank you. We listen to you
all this listening since you started. I just never called
this first. Appreciate we got love for the shy man,
Yes we do. Yeah man, thanks um. But I think
(01:04:05):
Kahi is um. He is the best play in the
world simply because if you think about the guys that
we consider to possibly be the best player in the world,
like Janice, who he beating the playoffs, Brown didn't make
the playoffs at all, it's almost a done deal. And
with Kevin Durrett being hurt for the year, to me,
it's no question that collapsed the number one guy, right
(01:04:27):
because Steph obviously hurt too, but he didn't do it
on but the offensive end hardened. Only on the offensive end.
So yeah, and here's the thing for those because we
got some younger callers out here who hear us saying,
Kawuhi's game is like Jordan's. It's a similar style of play.
A big difference is Kawuhi's not nearly as graceful as Jordan.
(01:04:50):
One of our co workers that, in fact, Martin White,
our our guy who does trolling or rolling. He said,
Kawhi is like robot Jordan, you know his that was
a good mechanical and Jordan was so graceful Jordan was
like Kobe. You know, everything he did look great, the
moves he made, the way he could dunk, and the
other guy could do the same dunk, and Jordan's would
(01:05:12):
look better right well, because the tongue would be wagging
the tongue right, right, right. So, but Kawhi is effective
and he does it a lot like Jordan did. Mere Range,
no wasted movement, wasted dribbles, so on and so forth.
All right, one of the biggest stars in sports is
on the verge of becoming a living legend. Our man
(01:05:33):
Chris Mannis will explain next, but first let's get to
Steve the saga for the latest in sports. Steve. Among
the NBA games underway tonight, said Brooklyn, it's that's sixty
six sixty four over Houston early in the third quarter,
James Harden with nineteen points, and then that's shooting fifty
six percent from the floor. But they have fourteen turnovers
as well. About five minutes to go third quarter at
(01:05:54):
Indiana Pacers, fifty six fifty four over the Calves for Cleveland,
Kevin Loves seventeen points and twelve rebail ounds. Already, the
Cavaliers gave general manager Kobe Altman a long term extension.
Today at Orlando. It's the Bucks up seventy seven fifty
one against the Magic mid third quarter. Steph Curry will
miss at least three months after surgery today on his
(01:06:14):
broken hand. One in three. Golden State hosts the late
game against San Antonio in a couple hours. College basketball
starts Tuesday. There's a college football game tonight. Navy, with
a six and one record, is tied at Connecticut seven
seven late in the first quarter. Three games on Fox
TV tomorrow, ending with number seven Oregon at usc. USC's
next athletic director will reportedly be Mike Bone from Cincinnati
(01:06:36):
to the NFL. The Seahawks claimed wide receiver Josh Gordon.
Rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will start for Washington Sunday at Buffalo.
He's already thrown four interceptions this year. Case Keenam still
has a concussion. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is questionable for
Sunday against the Vikings. He's been limited in practice all
week with his bad knee. The quarterback of the Panthers,
(01:06:56):
Cam Newton, will seek a second opinion on his sprain foot.
He's been out since week two. The Broncos placed quarterback
Joe Flacco on injured reserve with a bad neck. The
mets new manager is Carlos Beltron. He played twenty years
in the Major seven with the Mets. There were eight
vacancies this year. The Pirates and Giants still have yet
to fill theirs. Back to the Odd Couple, Chris and
Rob in ten seconds. But first a word from Mako.

seventy eight forty nine. With that said, we want to
bring in one of the top boxing writers out there,
also does a great job covering the NBA for Sports Illustrate, right,
he works for the Zone with Boxing. Chris Man is
Chris Chris. What's happening? Man? What's going on? Guys? It's
(01:08:43):
great to have you on man Big Weekend. Let's start.
As I mentioned, you covered the NBA for Sports Illustrate,
so let's start there. We know you're really plugged in
with the Celtics. They look good so far. I mean
it's early, but three and one, four players averaging seventeen
or more points. What's the different vibe around the team
(01:09:04):
this year versus last year? Obviously the big difference Kimball
Walker and for Kyrie Irving. Yeah, it just feels like
there's been a weight kind of lifted off their shoulders.
I spent about four days around the team practices in
the preseason, and you can tell. I mean, it's just
a much looser atmosphere. I was obviously around that team
(01:09:24):
a lot last year, and you know, a lot of
it is Kyrie, and a lot of it is kind
of the stuff that came with Kyrie. So you know,
it's removing him from the situation and replacing him with Kemba,
who is you know, kind of the the anti Kyrie
in a lot of ways. You know, it really is
a change in in vibe in that locker room. The
(01:09:46):
question is, as as anyone would have, is it sustainable?
And look, they came back and did a nice job
being the Bucks and that's great, but bigger team's gonna
give them fits. They just can't win with Robert Williams
and and and his cantor and the handful of other
guys they have on that Grant Williams the rookie on
(01:10:06):
that roster. They just need help. And look, if they
make a trade and someone can turn like Daniel Tyson's
contract and a first round pick into a big man,
I might look at them as as a threat in
Eastern Conference. But until then they're just a nice regular
season team with upside. Yeah, I would agree with that.
What was your thought? You probably saw the ESPN article
All and Kyrie, and there was a report in it
(01:10:27):
that you know, he's already rubbing people in the Nets
front office the wrong way with his mood swings. What
was your reaction to that, knowing what happened in Boston
last year? I mean not surprised, um, you know at
all that that Kyrie is having some some issues there.
I mean, look, he's not cut out to be a leader.
(01:10:49):
It's as simple as that. He's cut out to be
a great basketball player on a team with a leader.
And until Kevin Durant comes back, there just isn't the
just isn't a way for him to kind of survive
out there in that role. I mean, look, I said
this to Sean Marks when I saw him a couple
of weeks, and I said to a bunch of people, like,
the best case scenario for the Nets is not advancing
(01:11:12):
past the second round, or advancing past the first round,
or winning more games than last year. It's just don't
be dysfunctional, don't end the year a total mess. Right,
get through this season, figure it out, and then you
go into next season, maybe as the favorites because Kevin
Duran comes back into your lineup. The big thing for
the Nets is just not to have their house set
(01:11:32):
on fire this season because of something Kyrie did speaking
of a team that looks like and they don't have
all that pieces yet at least Paul George. What do
you make of the Clippers so far? And Kyrie, I'm
picking them to win the title? I love you know
what I mean? Kauhi, I'm sorry. I love what they
(01:11:52):
have put together. Where are you want the Clippers? It's
hard not to love them because you know the way
they play now and when you put Paul George, Who's
I think it's gonna be kind of an effortless fit
into that situation. It's a good mix, it really is.
You know, Paul George is going to increase their defensive versatility. Offensively,
I think it's gonna fit in well as a second
(01:12:13):
fiddle alongside, you know, alongside Kauhai. I've never thought that
Paul George, even though he has been the alpha and
successful to a degree, he's always been better suited in
that second role. So I like the way the Clippers
mix work now. I do think they are going to
be among the teams that needs to add a big
at the buyout deadline. I think they'll be incredibly appealing
for some of those guys that maybe find their way
on the market. I mean think about think about like
(01:12:35):
an Aaron Bains in that group. Like Aaron Bains would
be terrific with that team. But that type of player
I think will be the thing that pushes them above
everybody else because right now that thin front court is
the only weakness. I mean, Lou Williams and Montrez Harold
might duke get out for six man Kawhi looks like Kauhi.
I mean, they just have all the pieces you want
to win a championship. Chris Mann, it's a sports illustrated
(01:12:55):
end the Zone, joining the Eye Couple. Let's go to boxing, Chris,
big fight of course, Llo and Sergey kova Lav this weekend.
Kovalev obviously the bigger guy in the light heavyweight and
he hits a ton, but most people seem to think
Cannello's gonna take him out. What is your analysis of
this fight going in? Yeah, I think that you know,
(01:13:15):
the odds are that Kennelo wins this fight. He's younger
and even though he's significantly undersized going up against you know,
going up against the guy like Kovalev, Cole is thirty
six years old. You know, he's had two knockout losses
in the last three years. He's rebounded nicely this year.
He's got two good wins on his resume, against Lydia Alvarez,
who we've beaten a rematch, and against Anthony Yard, who
(01:13:38):
he knocked out just back in August. But Alvarez Canello
is the the fresher fighter and certainly the better fighter.
I think the key to this fight too, the keys
on either side. One for Canello is Kenny gets to
the body. This is one of the best body punchers
in boxing, maybe the best body puncher in Boxing's excellent,
He's fast and he's committed. He always goes to the
body with those type of shots. Can he get inside
(01:14:01):
on the bigger man and the bigger puncher. Can he
take whatever punishment needs to take to get in on
the inside. And for Covallev, can he keep Canelo off him?
I mean coval Lev at his best has had one
of the best jabs in all of boxing. It is
a power jab. Just back in August he knocked Anthony
Yard out her jab, so he has got some some
strength there at that spot. But he didn't never to
throw that out there, you know, forty fifty sixty times
(01:14:23):
around just to keep Cannello off him. You have to
see in the early rounds how that goes. That's going
to determine the winner. Coval Lev being what ten years older? Uh?
What makes people interested in this fight with such a
gap between these two? Is it what you said about
Cole boxing well lately? Is that why? Or is this
(01:14:47):
something else I'm missing on why? I think that's part
of it. I think that's part of it. He's boxed
well of Lady Change trainers a couple of fights ago.
Added Buddy McGirt, who's famous for helping to coax more
years out of our Turogatti at the end of his career,
has done a good job with veryan Forrest at the
end of his career. So he has helped some veteran fighters, um,
you know, squeeze a little bit more juice out of themselves.
(01:15:08):
And look, if this was two guys fighting in the
same weight class, you'd say Cannelo all day it would
be Kendra one fifteen to one. But they make weight
classes for a reason. I mean, Cannello is moving up
two weight classes. I'll tell you this. I spent some
time talking to Sugar Ray Leonard about his experience moving
up in weight to fight Donnie Laalan back in the
late nineteen eighties. And Ray won that fight. And if
you just look at the box wreck or these stats,
(01:15:30):
you know Ray won by knockout. But Ray told me
in that first round, the first punch he took for
Donnie Laalan, he knew he was in for a long night.
At the end of the night, after he won by knockout,
he said he vacated that one hundred and seventy five
or the heavier title. Immediately, I'm done. I'm done, thank
you very much, right right right? No, that that's big,
that that's critical. So how do you think it is?
(01:15:52):
It sounds like you think Canello. Do you think by knockout? Um?
I think yeah. If I'm gonna guess, I would say
Cannello seventh, eighth round stoppage. I will say this and
recorded here. Guys. I mean, you remember a couple of
years ago where there was a huge judging controversy with
Adelaide Bird and what happened with Cannello Goloftin in the
first fight. Yeah, there could be a similar thing developing here.
(01:16:14):
There's a judge on this card named Don Trella, a
veteran judge, done some good fights, but back in that
Cannello Golofkin fight, he was one of the judges that
had a really bad scorecard and that scored one round
for Canello that absolutely should have gone for Golopkin. And
if he did score for Golofkin, Gloptic would have won
that fight. So that's something to keep an eye on.
The one judge that you wonder if it goes to
(01:16:35):
a decision, which way is it gonna swing? Chris? Look
at Chris. Wow, we got about a minute left. Yes,
you brought that up. I mean, I'm tired of these
types of decisions. It's just ridiculous. What do you want
to I mean, is there any type of discussion with
him boxing to this, because you know, we've seen so
(01:16:56):
many decisions where the public just entirely saw and the
writers Daddy should have went the other way. Yeah, I mean, look,
there's there's talk of it all the time, but it's
pretty simple. In the NBA, you have three referees or
fourteen referees in the finals, you pick the best ones.
In boxing, you gotta have the best referees, the best judges.
(01:17:17):
Find the best three I could name up the top
of my head. You find the best three judges, you
use them, and that should be the end case. I
don't think they're using the best three judges nationally. That
should be the first thing that goes into place. All right,
he's Chris Mannix Sports Illustrated Senior writer and the Zone
Boxing Analyst. Great job, man, Enjoy the fin All right,
take care guys, all right, brother peace. NFL teams would
(01:17:39):
love to add a franchise running back to their roster,
just don't expect them to pay full price. We'll explain next.

(01:17:59):
the Couple, Christ and Rob. We brought to you by
a Discover Card because Discovered treats you like you would
treat yourself. All right, Rob. Interesting comments made by Levian
Bell on a podcast this week. He talked about, you know,
the trade deadline and you know you saw his name
(01:18:21):
out there. But here's the comment that he made on
the podcast. He said, basically, four teams called about him
at the trade deadline. That's what his agent told him.
Levion said, there was a lot of trade speculation and
rumors about you know, me getting traded obviously from the
Jets to other multiple teams, and they were actually true.
(01:18:43):
There were times where I found out from my agent,
you know, he had talked to the Jets and things
like that. But there were teams like Houston, the Packers,
the Chiefs, and surprisingly the Steelers were all in the
mix of trying to trade for me. He added, a
deal never materialized because the Jets were really asking for
(01:19:05):
a high price and a lot for me. He also
said that teams were reluctant to take on his contract
and that I obviously was not trying to take a
pay cut simply for the fact that I sat out
a full year football to get what I felt like
I earned and deserved. Rob. I don't know if this
(01:19:26):
is true or not. We haven't seen reports from people
confirming that you know, Steelers sources or whatever said they
were trying to get him back. Obviously, Levion Bell is
a good football player. But I think if those teams
were interested in him, I think he nailed it at
the end where he said teams did not want to
(01:19:49):
pay his contract. But they're only a few teams were
willing to give you that when you were a free agent.
I can't imagine after you're averaging three yards to carry
for the Jets that there will to give you that money. Now, well,
I think it's a combination. I agree with that, but
they also know the offensive line is bad and it
doesn't matter who you are as a running back. If
(01:20:10):
they're not making holes for you and they're not giving
you some space, it's gonna be tough. But I agree that.
But they just don't want to pay for running backs
right that they don't. I mean, Ezekiel Ella got his
deal right, right, You're still feeling the same way about
Ezekiela this year. That's a great point. I mean, right, Rob,
It's like what happened. Who is the best running back
in it? I was saying firmly going into the season,
(01:20:32):
it's Ezekiel Elliot not anymore than we're Levian Bell and
sa Kwan Barkley. Right now, you would say Dalvin Cook,
who leaves the league in Russia with Minnesota, and you
might even throw in Nick Chubb if you can. True,
I'll give you that. But he's having a heck of
(01:20:53):
a year. Five and a half yards to carry, almost
eight hundred yards are already one hundred and five yards
a game. That's in the league. But that's why teams
don't want to break the bank for a running back.
Chris Carson in Seattle had a great year last year,
doing it again. He's fifth in the league and rushing.
(01:21:14):
He's undrafted. Your boy Josh Jacobs in Oakland, sixth in
the league in Russian as a rookie, and everybody was
rob g men mentioned him. A lot of people were
hiding and he wound up living up to so far,
no doubt to all the chart man. I mean, his
name was out there before the season started. I hate
to because running back, I mean that was the glamour
(01:21:37):
position for so Barry Sanders, everybody, Walter Payton, we could
go on and on him. Yeah, em Smith, But now Rob, honestly,
it seems like they're a Diamond dozen. If you got
a good offensive line. There are a lot of brothers
with moves and speed. And if you give him the
holes and you create, you know, create the holes and
(01:21:59):
you have a good line, Uh, they're gonna do damage.
So that's the challenge. Um, let's see if Levion gets
it back together. All right, I couple one hour left,

a special guest for this celebrity. Look at us. Then,
my first cousin, my my uncle's, my father's brother's son.
(01:23:31):
I mean, you can't get any closer than no, as
close as cousins can be. Got the same last name
your cousin. So I toughened him up when he was young, right,
that's what some people call it. Right. You know, nowadays
they come in and put Chriss in handcuffs for the
stuff he was doing. Back then, you could get away
(01:23:52):
with it. Thank you, Craig Melvin dust but he is
very proud of him. He is a film writer and
producer here in Hollywood Wow, and has had feature films
in the theaters. First film was The Perfect Match and
that star Terrence J. Paula, Patton, Cassie, Yeah, Donald Phaon. Yeah.
(01:24:15):
I mean some Robin Givings, big name stars in that.
Did you have to data to get in make the
movie or no? No, whatever Okay has to say. You know,
she used to push herself on a lot of people.
I had a crush on ahead of the class man. Yeah, yeah,
that's right, that's right, right. So, uh, you can follow
(01:24:37):
him on Twitter at Brandon Creative. But it's b A
R b R A N d O n q r
e A t I V. He didn't want to use
that broussarde because he knows what kind of flight he
would get. Nah, the stuff that you would do love
being a brus hard Yeah, dud, dud, dude. So let
let's start you. You're in the industry, as we said,
(01:24:57):
what is it like? I mean that's a we we
have a did people dream about words broadcasters and writers,
but you do too, like a lot of people would
love to make movies. And how you do it either
like your journey into it not at Yeah, I would
tell people not to do it. No, really, you sound
like my wife. She's you know, Crystal, she's a doctor.
(01:25:18):
She says the same thing. No, I mean it's a
it's a love hate thing, like the struggle is difficult,
but the glory is unlike, you know, it's like being
an athlete and winning a championship. When you actually have
your film and theaters at a premiere or you do well,
you get go to the award shows and stuff like that,
like all your friends. Yeah, everybody from back home looks
(01:25:39):
at me and they're like, oh man, he's killing it.
That's amazing, right, And you know they don't know the
struggles between it, right, Nah, they're ups and downs. They're
ups and downs. I so, I graduated from Howard University.
I wrote a screenplay when I was in grad school
called The Epicureans made it, put it into a bunch
of film festivals. Came out here thinking there was gonna
be a big check waiting for me, and said there
(01:26:00):
was just a couch to sleep on. I worked on
the Eves Show back in the Day with the rapper Eve,
and then work my way up to writing on TV.
And I wrote for Tyler Perry and uh, I wasn't
a big fan of his, you know, but um I
learned a lot about the business from him. But after
that I really just kind of worked on my own,
did some freelance stuff, and then wrote scripts in the meantime,
and I ended up getting one of my TV shows
(01:26:22):
optioned by Quinland Teva's company. But one show was that
it was called The Promoters. It ended up nothing happened
with it, you know, part of the game. But that
led to the perfect match because I got a call
from their company saying, we really love your voice, your
young black man, and we have this project that needs
a rewrite but in ten days, and so I was right, wow,
(01:26:42):
ten days, Yeah, I was crazy. That's like the newspaper
when they collide. You gotta get me rewrite. You got
ten minutes to ten minutes and the business Wow, yeah,
and we're gonna pay you pennies, right, you know. But
that the game out here. And what I had learned
from my U from one of my mentors, who was
a writer for Tyler, was that you just had to
take the shot, you know, because she the ray that
(01:27:04):
she got on with Tyler with House of Pain was
she was told by his executive producer, they're looking for
a writer and to just write a script based on
a play that he had done, and so she just
wrote it in a day, sent it off to him.
Ended up being the House of Pain, and she was
she went from being an assistant to being the head
writer on the shows for a hundred episodes, right, And
so I learned from that, like just take the chance
(01:27:25):
to take the shot. And so with that project with
Quinlan Teva's company, it was called the jump Off. At
the time, I was like, I can't do it in
ten days, but I have two friends, maybe we can
write together. And we started this writing team called Murder Inc.
I a k. And we wrote it in ten days.
They loved it. They say, y'all killed it, which is
where we got the name from. And like a month
later they're shooting it with Paula Patton and t Later Yeah,
(01:27:48):
and then yeah, they sold it to lions Gate. We
made it for two million independently, and then they did
it did about ten million in the box office, and
from there we just kept running. They asked, I'm just
un the uh, because another part that people don't always
understand and in the business is the DVD sales and
all the other stuff that you know what I mean,
(01:28:09):
even you might right, yeah, I mean, how did it
did it? Oh? No, it killed We did way better
numbers on vod See that's what I mean, Right, you
make more money on that. Okay, Yeah, vod videos made
us like pennies for being in the theater and plus
I was like the third writer on it or something
at the time. But compared to what we actually got
the residuals, the green envelopes from the w GA, like
(01:28:32):
tens of thousands of dollars in residuals the first year
and you know eighty years right, absolutely, absolutely right, because
you know, yeah, people aren't going in the theaters anymore.
They're mostly streaming stuff, their ordering movies online or whatever.
So it is different, especially when the popcorn course eleven dollars, right,
who's going on? I mean, I just can't every time
I go to the movie theater and even they give
you a gallon coke size diet coke, but it's like
(01:28:55):
nine dollars. I don't want a nine dollars solder and
eleven dollars pop thing what they do and they know
it's and they have a mono, right, I make films
and I still am like, unless you go on a Tuesday,
it's like seventy dollars. Ago with me and my fiance,
it is crazy. So you said you wrote on the
show Eve and we know every sitcom where every TV
(01:29:16):
show has a writing group. Tell us what that's like,
because we always when you watch the show, you think
the actors are the ones coming up with the material, right,
do they have like anything to do with the material
and stuff? Like say Seinfeld, for instance, how much did
he have to do with the material or is it
just strictly the writing team? You know, it totally depends
(01:29:38):
on the type of show it is, right, because if
you're actually talking about what was the Cosby Show back
in the day, or if you're talking about Seinfeld. Seinfeld
is a comedian and so he's heavily involved with Larry
David's actually make the show. But on the show like
the Eve Show, when it's just starring a rapper and
some actors that have been casted, it's going to be
completely different. There's a writer's room with about twelve different
comedic writers that wrote on Family Matters and a bunch
of other different shows, and they write the scripts and
(01:30:01):
then when you're actually on set that day shooting, they're
seeing how the jokes are landing with a live audience,
and then they're saying that didn't work, and they're having
the writers right there huddle up and write new jokes
for Wow. Yeah, you know it's you know, I wrote
a sitcom and I've been trying to get it for
for years, you know, and I think it's pretty funny. Yeah,
for years. Yeah, Spike Lee looked at it, Tracy Morgan,
(01:30:27):
I could go on and on on and people who
they liked it. Yeah, but it's just so hard. I like,
I'm frustrated to a certain extent on how hard it is,
just because you could people can look at it or whatever,
and I and I get it, like to get the
jokes and to be able to get because seting that
Live does this. This is I know because I went
um to the rehearsal. They have to rehearsal and then
(01:30:49):
they have the show. So they go and do all
these things in the first group of people. They get
to see what laughs, what people didn't laugh at. Then
they edit the show and decide this wasn't funny, it
didn't work, and then they bringing a whole new audience
because if you already saw it, you're not gonna laugh
for a second time. Bringing a whole new audience. And
then that's how they do that's right, that's where the
(01:31:10):
shows they do that for sitcoms and no shopping shows,
I mean shopping a TV show. I find that shopping
and TV show is even harder than shopping a film, right, like,
because this is I'm actually coming up on my fifth
film made in the last four years. But TV. We
just went and pitched the TV show that I had written,
and the creative people, the producers, it was Morgan Freeman's
(01:31:33):
company called Revelations. They loved it. They were like, there's
nothing like this on TV. They have me hyped. I
was like, cash Man, we go to HBO, and we
go to NBC, ABC, CBS, Hulu, Amazon, No, no, no,
no no. Because the deal is not only do you
have to have a great project that doesn't already exist
on TV, you also need to really come in with
(01:31:55):
a showrunner or what would be like a CEO of
a company who's amazing. They want you to have like
the equivalent of Tim Cook or something like that, right
running Apple running your show. And then you need to
have some access attached to it. And then still you know,
you gotta like have some relationships. You know, it's at
least look and the Cosby show he mentioned. Remember this,
if you go back and read up on the Cosby Show.
(01:32:16):
CBS turned it down. ABC turned it down. They both
said it wasn't believable. That that's what they said it was.
It wasn't believable. And then NBC took a chance. He
was the NBC was the third choice, you know what
I mean, third option, and they wanted picking up and
then there was a hit show for ten years and
then I mean, just touching on that reality of like
(01:32:37):
being a black artist out here too, right, is that
none of the rooms that I went into, with the
exception of one of the rooms an assistant that came
and got us was black. Everybody that we were in
and I'm talking about rooms with four to six people
in them, everybody was white. Even when you're pitching a
black idea, even at BT. So so we're right, right, Well,
(01:33:00):
when we see like Bambooze with Spike Lee, and you
see these movies and shows and they show you how
whites are telling you it's not black enough for you,
gotta be more black or cool, you know, gangster, whatever,
is that? Is there some truth to that? Absolutely I've
had but I mean to be fair, I've had black
(01:33:20):
people tell me that my stuff wasn't black enough sometimes
because my goal has always been to write universal stories
that have people of color in them or black characters
in them. Tell stories because it's funny. It's funny, Yeah,
I tell people that. Are One of my favorite shows,
Chris laughs all the time. Is The Golden Girls. If
you listen to the writing, Oh my god, it's brilliant.
It's brilliant. Am I right? Try to make him feel good?
(01:33:46):
Is one of the best TV shows. It's absolutely one
of the best. Are you sure you, Bruce? Are He's right?
It is, Chris. One of these day you're gonna sit
down and watch Man. Classic Golden Girls is up there.
All right, we will be back with my cousin to
Phil Rider, Brandon Bruce will with myself and Rod Parker.
(01:34:06):
But first let's get to our man, Steve de Sager
for the latest in sports. Steve, all right, for this
Friday night, we have eight NBA games, some finals rolling
in the Bucks, one easily at Orlando one twenty three
to ninety one, Janna Settenatkumpo twenty nine points, fourteen rebounds,
a win in Indiana for the Pacers one h two
ninety five over the Calves Kevin Loven defeat twenty two
point seventeen rebounds. The Cavaliers today gave general manager Kobe
(01:34:29):
Altman a long term extension. Thirty seconds to go at Brooklyn,
NAT's leading Houston one twenty to one ten James Harden
thirty six point seven assists. Six minutes to go, the
Knicks are tied at Boston eighty four apiece eight minutes
left in the third quarter. At Chicago is sixty nine
fifty eight lead for the Bulls over the Pistons, and
about to start it's Lakers at Dallas, a battle of
(01:34:52):
three and one. Team's Kyle Kuzum of La making his
season debut after the summer foot injury Utah at Sacramento.
At the top of the hour, we're an hour away
from the start of the late game one in three
Golden State hosting San Antonio. Steph Curry will miss at
least three months after surgery today on his broken hand.
The Mets new manager is Carlos Beltron and the NHL.
The Islanders have won their eighth straight five two over
(01:35:14):
Tampa Bay. The Seattle Seahawks claimed wide receiver Josh Gordon.
Rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will start for Washington Sunday at Buffalo.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will seek a second opinion on
his sprained foot. He's been out since Week two. Le
Broncos plays quarterback Joe Flacco on injured reserve Steelers running
back James Conner with his bad shoulder, is doubtful against Indianapolis.
(01:35:36):
Colts wide receiver t Y Hilton out for the game
at Pittsburgh. Eagles wide receiver DeShawn Jackson says he will
play Sunday against the Bears. The guys three on three
basketball will be in the Tokyo Olympics next summer. US
men's and women's three on three teams not yet qualify.
There is a FEBA tournament to qualify them next March
in India. Top three teams that those tournaments get in
(01:35:57):
the American Three on three team. On the men's side
this summer included former producer Robbie Hummel, who was three
time All Big Ten. Back to you, Steve, it is
the Eye Couple coming to you live from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to save fifteen percent
or more on your car insurance with Geico. Go to
Geico dot com or call eight hundred nine four seven Auto.
(01:36:18):
The only horror part is figuring out which way is easier. Also,
were brought to you by a Discover card because Discover
treats you like you would treat yourself. We continue in
this special edition of Celebrity Corner with my first cousin,
Brandon Bruce Hart, Hollywood film writer and director. Brandon, So,
what are you working on now? Like? What kind of
(01:36:39):
projects do you have? In two works? I have a couple,
because you know, I'll here, you gotta have twenty projects
at the same time. So I have one that's in
early stages with the company that makes Ghostbusters called Montecito.
We have a film there that's like a high school
comedy called Team Conference. Is that like, what was that
thing saved by the Bell? Is it kind of like
(01:37:01):
it's gonna be? It's gonna be? Actually, you know what
it is? Do you remember Real Genius? It's a little
bit closer to Real Genius. Back in the day with
Val Kilmer, I dated myself with that one. Wow, Okay,
I don't remember. I remember Younger, but I don't remember
that show. But I've always been a big fan of
like the Goonies or like Kid kind of adventure movies
and stuff like that, and so we wanted to do
(01:37:21):
something kind of Steven Spielberg, guess, so we're doing that
with them. We have another project that's a lot further
along with Universal Studios and Will Packer called Praise This,
which is like Pitch Perfect Meet Sister, Act two and
then actually starts shooting in January. Um, they have the
director attached and they're in pre production right now. So
that one's should be pretty huge. I mean black musical comedy, right,
(01:37:41):
it should be pretty big. And then though my passion
project is actually getting made, which is Black Don't Camp
and we don't go title because you know that what
black people always say, black don't crack, right right, right,
we don't don't really can't either, right, No, not a.
It's a whole lot of things we don't do. We
don't SPA. And also like like we're not gonna be
(01:38:06):
in a horror movie because when they hear the voice
coming through the through the basement or whatever, like get out,
you'd be like I'm out. And instead they always have
the movies where you know, it'll be like a lone,
little skinny white chick and she'll be like I heard
something in the basement, you know, going out of stair,
like what I thought, I heard a monster right right?
(01:38:27):
You know what's funny is like that was our north star.
Like in writing this film, it was very much like
if it's gonna be a black kind of horror film,
then like at every turn it has to be like
why are they still there? Like they need to be
trying to get out of this. We're not gonna do
any dumb stuff like go towards the noise to check
something out, Like, no, that is not gonna be the movie.
But about two years ago, Snoop was hosting a screening
(01:38:49):
of get Out and I was sitting there with one
of my writing partners who loves horror, and at the
end of it, I turned to her and was like,
I've got one of these. I was like, I didn't
know you could do it like horror movie. Okay, it's
like a horror comma. Space Fargo is psychological um. But
basically I loved the camp. I liked camping when I
was a kid, and in California there's tons of camping,
(01:39:10):
right and I had been taken to a really cool
place out here, and so for my birthday, one year,
I was like, yo, I'm about to invite all my
friends and we're gonna go camping. Of course, none of
my black friends wanted to go. I was gonna say,
you know it, yo, I messing my hair about that.
It's gonna be some some animals gonna come in like
no phones, Like I'm supposed to sleep on the floor.
(01:39:33):
I gotta get a babysitter for this, all that. All that.
So I convinced them to go out there, and when
you know, like they start having the time in their
lives like we're kids again, Like we're just chilling. We're
having this communion where we're just all hanging out and
you know, drinking and playing games while hanging out in
the river, like tubing down the river and stuff. But
while we're there, we get to a certain point in
(01:39:55):
the river where they have these hot springs, which are
kind of like you know, God made jacuzies, right, So
we get out we hop in them. There some locals there,
and some of the ladies with us have like these
scarves on their heads. And one of the locals he
first he tries to flirt with her and then she
rebuffs him. And then next thing, you know, he's like, well,
what's them? There are scarves on your head for you know,
(01:40:15):
where those like religious or something. I'm like, ash, what
are you doing right? Yo? Like we're just trying to
kick it, like we're like they got six pools out here,
y'all being good. So we end up squashing it and
we're like, okay, cool, we're having fun. It's all good.
So we go back to our campsite that night. Now,
mind you, we've been warned by the Ranger, like don't
have a fire, there's a fire warning and stuff. Well
(01:40:37):
we're doing it anyway because we're idiots. And so we
see some headlights coming We're like, oh, it's the Ranger. Dang,
like we gotta put the fire out. We're gonna get
fined or something. And then as the truck gets closer,
we're like, oh, it's not the Ranger, it's those dudes
from earlier and that's that's like that's true, that's true. Wow.
So that is what inspired the movie, and it's gonna
(01:41:01):
be fun. Man. It's like it's subversive like get Out
is like new Line is super exciting. No one is
just coming out. This is we'll start shooting this in
the spring of twenty and twenty and hopefully we'll release
it in the falling. Too. Awesome. That sounds great, it does.
I mean if it's like a psychological thriller like get
out with that, that that sounds big. Quickly, we got
(01:41:21):
about two minutes left. You're from Houston, Yeah, so Rockets Astros?
How sick were Astros? Real quick? Everybody was sick about
the Astros. I was on a tech chain with like
twenty people in my family. We're rooting them. We're just like, yo,
we're about to win again. This is about to be amazing, right,
and then everybody's crushed right when we lose. But um,
(01:41:43):
nobody more so, no more than Chris right with those
the lack of new Jay's on the speed. I got
some old nikes, regular nikes, you no, man, I mean,
Houston is in a good place, man. We have Deshaun Watson.
The Astros actually did get a chip a couple of
years ago, and we feel like we're probably gonna be
able to go again, even though you know we're gonna
lose coal and then so we love the Texans. It's
(01:42:06):
a football state. And then when you got the Rockets,
I am not on the Rockets being wagon because I
just don't think that Harden is clutch. I don't really
trust Daryl Moray is a gem. That's not my gem. Uh.
If it was Jerry West down there, I would believe
that something was gonna happen. But you know, I was
waiting tables at Popados back when Ali Juan won the
first chip, and I go back then, I go back
(01:42:28):
to like Alan Level and Robert Reid and stuff like
watching remember those guys. Yeah, and so it's in my
blood and I want them to be good again. But
I just I mean, part of the thing about the
NBA is I think you have to have the best
player in the league to win, or at least one
of the top two or three. So like that a
lot of years, more so in the NBA because it's
only you only got a handful of guys, so you
(01:42:49):
really can impact the game and a team. So yeah,
for the most part, you it's very seldom, very the
pittions might have been that one time in two thousand
and four, and when we go back to seventy nine
with the Seattle super Sonics, you know what I mean,
But those are like the few times where the team
with the best Bigger Stars did not win. Yeah, and
(01:43:10):
that's the thing. It makes it difficult to root for
the Rockets when you think like they might make it
to the commerce finals. But barring like an injury or
something like that to somebody from one of these other teams,
you don't see them really winning the chips. So it's
kind of like, I think his championship or bust. Yes,
you know, you could have kept Chris Paul to get close, right,
So my man, Brandon Bruce, I'm inspired to Yeah, that's awesome.
(01:43:32):
But we know a lot of people out there, like
you say, Rob, a lot of people want to do
what we do. By people want to do what you
do too, So thank you for giving that knowledge. Who
knows who heard something and inspired so we appreciate it,

it's time for the pigskin pickoff. You ready to retire?
The odd couple is gonna make you rich gambling corruption.
It's their pigskin pickoff. Yes, sir, it is the big
skin pickoff, the r couple of Fox Sports Radier. We
(01:44:39):
do this every single Friday to help you pick games
against the spread this NFL Sunday, because the only thing
better than watching football on the Sunday is making money
while you watch football on the Sunday. Yes, the our
couples here to help you do that. But before we
can pick week nine, we got to look back to
Week eight. Chris Bruce Star the comeback is on to
(01:44:59):
you four and one last week against the number Rob
Parker two and three. But on the season, Rob Parker
killing the game. Y'all should see Rob up in here. Shivery.
I'm not sure picking sixty eight percent percent seven weeks
eight percent? And what is chriss at forty nine fifty two.
(01:45:20):
I gave you seven weeks to get the biggest league
you could get. I'm gonna beat you. What we got,
What we got? What we got? Want a better sweatshirt
or wings? If I get close to you, I might
I might want to get I need a new black
hoodie to go with my jay. Yes, I'm gonna do
another Jordan band looking at I'm looking for the perfect thing.
(01:45:42):
I'm looking for a sure thing. Yeah, I bet you are.
All right, let's do it, all right, here we go.
We're picking games against the spread. The first one going
across the pond the Texans technically the jack of the
home team, but again it's in London, Texans minus one
and a half as the road favorite. Chris Broussard wore
you picking, man, This is a tough one. It was
(01:46:03):
a tough week. I think to pick this is some
tough games. Yeah, Deshaun Watson, I mean it's hard to
go against him. However, Jacksonville has been you know, they
need a victory, both of them do. But I'm going
with Jacksonville. I believe in Gardner Minshew. I'm going with
the Jags to just cover at least. I'm not doing
(01:46:24):
that I'm going with Texas, So I mean with Houston.
The Texans need this. I believe that they will look
at this game. This is a golden opportunity to get
back on track. I'm going with the Houston. Houston Texans
must be noted, Deshaun Watson only one good eye this weekend.
Damn number right. I got my eye on you. The
Chicago Bears traveling up to Philadelphia to take Don Carson
(01:46:48):
Wentzon the Eagles. Eagles three and a half point home favorites.
Rob Parker, who you picking? I gotta go with the
wins in a lifetime. I'm going with the Eagles, and
I can't tell you why. You know, I think the
Eagles win, but they covered. The Bears are desperate. Bears
(01:47:08):
are playing for their life. I think the Eagles win,
but I think it's very close. Their favorite by three
and a half. I think they don't cover. So you think,
so you said Chicago's gonna win or just come within
three three or whatever? Okay, I feel much better. I
got three and a half. I got wents in a lifetime.
That half point, Rob is a big difference. I know
(01:47:29):
I know how they do that because I'll be kicking
a TV set on Sunday. It is the NFL picks
can pick off Chris and Rob picking NFL games against
the spread. Game number three, that's the first one we're
opposite right now. Two more, Game number three, Rob Parkers
Detroit Lions traveling up to Oakland to take on my Raiders.
(01:47:53):
Playoff implications for both teams. They both need to win
if they want to stay in the hunt. Chris Bruce,
are the Raiders are two point home favorite? You picking?
You said it? I mean, look again, both teams are desperate,
but I've got more faith than the Raiders. I think
they've actually played some good ball at times, so I'm
going with the Raiders. Hard for me to pick the Lions.
I know the games matter, and a tough one on
(01:48:15):
the road. And it's weird though that the Raiders are
only two point favorites usually get three points automatically at home,
so it tells you that they think the Lions can
do something because it's not a three point. But I'm
gonna go with the Raiders as well. I think the
Lions are more paper tigers than anything. That's right. You guys,
pick the right side and that one Game number four,
(01:48:38):
the Green Bay Packers traveling in the LA. Is gonna
be a home game. I don't care what they say.
Oh No, it's gonna be a home game. Packers three
and a half point road favorites in LA against the Chargers.
Rod Parker, are you picking? I got the Packers easily.
Davante Adams is back too, right, they've been doing it,
didn't he back? He has been practicing, supposed to be back, yep, yep.
And I just I know the Chargers are also. They
(01:49:00):
keep losing. But I'm gonna good. I'm gonna go. I'm
gonna go with them. That's probably the team you should
have said that wasn't gonna make the playoffs, right when
you pick the Rams. But I'm gonna go with the Packers.
I think they win easily. They've been playing well. Aaron
Rodgers is on fire. I'm going with the Packers as well.
All right, Last game, the game of the weekend. Rob
Parker's New England Patriots three point road favorites against Lamar
(01:49:25):
Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Big playoff implications in this
one as well. Chris Brussar, do you pick in man? Look?
I know that Patriots been talking all this stuf about
how great Lamar Jackson is. I think Bill Belichick is
gonna put it on that dude and he's gonna be stifled.
I'm going with the Patriots. The Patriots lose their first
(01:49:49):
game of the year, Lamar Jackson and no Baltimore Ravens,
Tom Brady, no touchdowns, two picks, and the Baltimore Ravens
getting Tom Brady could do that, Tom Brady could Tom
Can and they lose their first game. But then you're
going to game three games on RIBB this week. If three,
(01:50:11):
you're gonna be sweating. And if I and if I
blow you out this week, it's gonna be over because
I'll be picking at a seventy five percent clip if I,
if I catch, if I win by three this week,
I might throw a Jordan offer. Whatever it's gonna it's
gonna be a wire. I'm getting me a let it go.
You go back down to Manchester and Vandess and get
(01:50:35):
those wardens for you. A couple, A couple
