(00:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. All Yeah, it is
The I Couple. I'm Chris Brussard alongside my partner Rob Parker,

(00:49):
and we are coming to you live from the Guecode
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen
percent more on your car insurance. Visit gecode dot com
for a free rate quote. And Rob and I are excited.
We call it the best time of the year, certainly
one of the best times of the year if you're

(01:09):
a sports fan, because you got baseball playoffs just beginning,
and what a way to start last night. You got
football in full swing NFL and f BS, and then
you got the basketball season about to start. Training camp
underway now, so you can talk about all three sports,

(01:31):
and we will do just that. We will get into
Major League Baseball in the playoffs to start the show off,
and we'll be joined by Dale Murphy, seven time all start,
two time National League MVP, and now a great broadcaster.
We will talk to him at the bottom of the
hour less than thirty minutes, So let me bring in

(01:51):
my partner, Rob Parker. Now, what's up man? What's happened
to mister Chris Broussard? How is your day? I'm good,
I'm good, and you are charmed? Why? Why is that?
Because you thought my pick was gonna be out the window?
You were done for three hours. I never lost any faith. Yeah,
I watched the game to the very end. I was

(02:12):
sitting on the edge of my my my couch, and
I was just like, oh my god, what's going on here?
Two outs and hater? Who's you know? It was a
tough closer for the Brewers. That guy normally gets it done. Chris,
he didn't get it done yet. He looked like he
was rolling early although he was still a little He
was wild, played right, he was wild and uh that

(02:34):
was just a great moment, a two out knock. And
then baseball has a way of always doing this. You
can't hide guys like the guy who replaced Yellich right,
the MVP. It's the guy that the ball skips by.
I'm not saying that he's a bad player or a
hot prospect, right, I mean, I'm just gonna be a

(02:55):
great Oh yeah, No, he had done well. But I'm
just saying, of all the places rich for that to happen,
it would be where your MVP is missing. Right. That's
all I'm saying is, here's the thing. You didn't have
to be an MVP to field that ball. I know
we're gonna get into it because I'm hearing all this
foolishness about what did you see that? Hot? I know,

(03:17):
I mean, cut what All right, We're gonna get into that.
Chris was a little worked up, come hyped man because
he had the Brewers. He was all feeling good. He
was gonna come in the Nationals. But but I didn't
have him going all the way. That's the different, Right,
you said you liked them, what you were afraid? I didn't.
I had him when beating the Brewers. I just didn't

(03:37):
have him advancing past the next round. Right, All right, Well,
let's welcome and we get started on that. But let's
welcome into Odd Couple crew. Of course, wouldn't be able
to do this fine radio program without him. Gavin is
filling in for Rob g still on paternity leave. Alex.
Of course, our engineer, Brian Fenley is the sports anchor.
He's at the update desk. He'll keep us updated throughout

(03:59):
the program. Hey, now a William will is our intern.
Like that William will uh and of course Elijah our
social media guru. Uh. They're all on the other side
of the glass. Chris Boussard on this worship Wednesday. Yeah,
let's kick some Yes Kanye, Kanye coming out with a

(04:24):
new gospel album supposed Yes, Yes, he's quite the preacher now, Okay,
that's what they're saying, more like more like bucking the preacher.
We will see, we will see. But you know that's
the talk out there that Kanye is all about Jesus now,

(04:46):
so we'll see. But anyway, we're all about baseball for
this first segment Robe and look, do you I know, Look,
I like baseball too. All right, I'm glad we're getting
to talk baseball. I'm glad the game. I can't wait
till tonight's game. I love when we get a game,

(05:08):
when there's a team down two runs with two outs
left and they come back and win. I love it,
but the likes of you, mister baseball apologist. You want
to you know, cover your sport in in glowing praise

(05:32):
so much that you can't see last night for what
it was, well was it? It was exciting. You want
to act like the Washington Nationals mounted this heroic comeback,
like they just you know, it was like it was
Tom Brady ish in the fourth quarter. You want to

(05:56):
act like they rally like Sugar Ray Leonard over Tommy
Words in nineteen eighty one. Yes, I'm digging deep. You
want to act like they did they pulled the Cleveland
Cavaliers in twenty sixteen against the Golden State Warrior. It
wasn't any of that, Rob Parker. What it was was

(06:20):
the Milwaukee Brewers one out away from a great victory,
run out away from a chance to defeat the Los
Angeles Dodgers, to meet them and defeat them. While it's
four outs, don't forget if they got out of the eighth,
they still had the ninth. But go ahead, Okay, four outs,

(06:42):
go ahead? And what did they do Instead of facing
the moment and grabbing it by the neck and choking
it for all it's worse, They grabbed themselves by the neck. Wow,
and they choked Roy Parker. They choked. And I feel

(07:04):
for Grisham. I've he played well all season and then
when he filled in for Yellick, he did a gioman's
job and he helped that team going a historic run.
I hope he gets past this and becomes the player
that the Brewers and others in Major League Baseball I
think he will be. But that was a straight up

(07:28):
choke job, and not just him, Josh Hayter, you mentioned it.
One of the best closers, one of the best finishers
in all of baseball. He's wild. He hits Michael Taylor.
Taylor wasn't gonna get on base. He's mediocre. You hit him,

(07:50):
you put him on, then you throw three straight balls
to Anthony Rendone and eventually walk him. I'll give solo
credit for the hit, good hit, but they never should
the basis never should have been jammed. Hater actually is
more to blame than Grisham and all of you out

(08:13):
there talking about the hop, the bad hop. Stop it.
You could see he rounded that. I don't know where
he was going. Where was he going? He took a
bad angle. Oh my gosh, did he just keep the
ball in front of you. It wasn't a bad hop.

(08:33):
It was darn near a Sunday hop. So this was
not some heroic comeback by the Washington Nationals. And I
picked them too, So that was my team last night.
This was a choke job. And only the ultimate defenders
of baseball, of America's pastime will say anything differently. Wow,

(09:00):
what a passionate baseball I got goose bumps, Chris. So
much passion him? Did I convert you? But no, so
much passion. But you're still wrong. That was That wasn't
a choke job. Are you kidding? To get up against Hater?
You know, Hater? Oh man, hey, hey, hey, hey, who's

(09:25):
one of the toughest closers in the game of baseball
and to take him down with two outs and the
homemade with a hit, Chris, It wasn't an error. That
game was tied. You can talk about the ball of
Grissom miss playing it and they got the winning run.
I get it. But they talked about it, but the

(09:46):
But they tied that game off of Hater with a
clutch hit with the bases loaded in two outs. That's
what baseball's about. They didn't they didn't. That wasn't a guy,
wasn't gift wrapped. They earned it. You know what they did.
They took advantage of the situation. It's not automatic that
you're gonna get a clutch two out hit. That's as

(10:07):
big as it dance. The Nationals, who had been drowning
in a sea of playoff failures, they finally got the
life raff. They pulled themselves up and they got their
head above water. And then they stood up and walked
across the water and they beat the tough Milwaukee Brewers

(10:34):
who thought they had the game in the bag. Remember Chris.
They were up three to nothing, they owned Max Scherzer.
It was over. People were doing the dance. They thought
in Milwaukee, bring out the cheese and beer. Life is good.
And then all of a sudden they mounted the rally.

(10:55):
This is what makes you sit on the edge of
your seat for baseball. If we pitchers big, every pitch
in the playff is important, and they took advantage when
it was there. You don't have to have the greatest team,
you know what, you need some good pitching and some
clutch hitting. That's what the Nationals did. Even after Shirza

(11:18):
gave up three runs in the first two winnings. You
know what they did. They shut down the Milwaukee Brewers.
That's why they were in the game. That's why they
were able to come back chip away, and all they
needed was one big hit. How damn you try to
steal this from the Washington Nationals and try to act
like the Milwaukee Brewers were Bill Buckner And the ball

(11:40):
went through somebody's legs. That was a clean hit. That
does not deserve a play. That was the biggest crop.
And you see that. I don't have to call they
got one hit. You you act like it was some
miraculous rally they got on. Wasn't hit. That's all you need.

(12:03):
You get hit by a pitch, you get walked, that's
all I mean. That was heroic. That's what the rally
caps were about. They never gave hater choked, grisham choked.
Heck solo, Well what solo? This? This is this caps
it off? Heroic, hid I'll give you that. Why solo?

(12:27):
Great hit? Clutch he's been clutching. Why is he going
for third base? Oh, don't worry about that. I'll bring it.
You're bringing that up it you had it. That just
shows you that they weren't on the top of their game.
They weren't rallying out of greatness. It was luck he

(12:48):
was he was frizzled. He's going for a triple. That
wasn't a broken bat, that was a clean this second
and then maybe you could have put another run on
the board, and you could youself some cushion. You're gonna
nippick after a guy comes up with a clutch hit
for a franchise, Chris Bussard that has done nothing but

(13:08):
fail in the big game. This is the first time
the Nationals have advanced in the playoffs, and they've had
good teams, way better teams than this team, and they
got it done. And you're talking about him being over
zealous on the base pass. Yeah, after the winning run.
School told you that they were They were besides themselves.
This wasn't skill. Where was the skill in Taylor getting hit?

(13:32):
In fact, he didn't even get hit. You know that.
You know that ball hit the bat first, should have
been a foul ball. This hard thing hood a hole
would have all been different. Where's the skill in that rendon?
I'm hearing that what had back? What a professional that back?
What that wight is going on? You're the same guy.

(13:53):
Remember who always blames the Golden State Warriors for choking
too well? They do the tables if turned when it's
base ball, you give Lebron no credit, you give Kyrie
no credit. It was all the choke job of the Warriors.
But here you are when it comes to baseball. Oh,
look at the greatness. What do you guys think? Eight

(14:15):
seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three sixty nine. Was last night a
choke job on the part of the Brewers or a
wonderful heroic rally on the part of the Nationals. You'll
turn the way in with Chris and Rob. It's the
Eye Couple Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussar then Rob

(15:23):
Is that R Parker who only sees clouds and sunshine
and waterfalls when it comes to baseball? Man, that was
an epic moment. I loved every minute of it. I
still have goose bumps. That was great. All right, let's
get it kicked off with Scott in Milwaukee, which is perfect.

(15:46):
You're on the odd couple with Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Scott.
Good evening, guys. I don't believe I'm getting through the
times the man, Man, it's great to have you on.
Keep calling in. I got one time. I can't call
it a complete choke job. I think Coasto has done
a great job up with the talent he has. But

(16:08):
he had such tunnel visions from all the stations we
were listening to around here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was
so dead set and only pitching woodrup for for any right.
I think he's just he got too excited to see
the pictures position come up in the banning order. He
wanted a poem at that time where I believe with

(16:31):
that high strength. So when it was being last night,
I'm team he could have ran him for it. At
least Scott great point. This is what happens, Chris now
with the analytics script out of game and no matter
what the pitcher's doing right, he's pitching great, leave him man,
Oh no, next time around, they're gonna start hitting him.
You don't know that he's got good stuff. And that's

(16:54):
a fair that's a fair art. That's where that's where
those who want to see the what three or four
pitch rule, you know, pitch your rule in the game,
that's where that will help, because I don't want to
see the day when starters are going two or three
inn the right like in they're pitching well right, it's ridiculous.
Marty in Kentucky, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up? Well up, fellers, My voice is

(17:16):
out again. I'm glad Jonas isn't here to rip me.
It's in my best. All right, I do feel like
it sodos. You know, he put the ball and play
on a good closer and that is clutch. And I
feel like Grisham's play. You know, he got called sleeping,
and that is choked. So they died the game on clutch,
and the game was lost on the choke. And I

(17:37):
think Rob's agenda is clear here. Milwaukee's a small market.
You don't really get known until you what. Yeah, you
don't get known until you get to a big series,
like you know, the World Series. And you don't want
me to Walkee to go for because you don't want
to be second as the most recognized hater in sport.
Oh my, wow, Marty's digging d wow. Marty's usually right

(18:02):
on point. You know that, Marty Terry in North Carolina,
you're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Terry,
what you got, guys, You played a game for nine
in and you get what you get. The young man
took a bad angle and he choked. Very simple, but

(18:24):
that wasn't a clue. That wasn't a clutch hit off
of the hit was fine. That hit Bill Buckter missing
the ball between his legs in nineteen eighty six. That's
a choke or god, missing a pop up or having
to hit off his glove, that's a choke. That was
a routine play for an hour. But you don't want
to know that Soto any credit for the hit. Christmas

(18:46):
who I'll give him that he's a lefty against the
lefty A talk what I'm talking about his hater. I'm
not just focused on that one play. I'm a hater.
Didn't have his stuff. He's one of the best closest
in baseball. Didn't look like it last night a little
while and no errors, no errors all season, fifty one games,
and then he makes one. At that point, Come on,

(19:09):
Denny in Virginia. You're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. Denny, what you got. Wisconsin's angry about green
Bay as well as the Brewers. It was a great
comeback Soto. He'll be a great professional one day. You know.
It was a great hit in a clutch moment. He
missed a catch out in left field professional ti years

(19:31):
and he is now. The Nationals have been one of
the best teams in baseball for the last three months.
Looks for them with the pitching, They've got to make
a run against the Dodgers. It's gonna happen, Denny. I'm
on board with you. Chris and I talked about it yesterday.
Chris said he wanted to do it, but he just
couldn't pull a trigger. I'm riding with the Nationals, and now, Chris,

(19:53):
you know what I think after that, they can just
relax and play now that they've advanced, because they had
that bugabull and now all of a sudden that that's
called they could just play and not be afraid. Let's
go to Sean in North Carolina. You're in the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. Sean, what you got? What's up? Fellas?
What's love? The show Man? Look forward to it every day.

(20:14):
Thank you on this workship Wednesday. I just want to say, Lord,
bless us all and please forgive Chris for a salt
battery and straight up murdering Rob right there on. I
will repent. I will repent. It would it would be
down in North Carolina in the Bible Belt or whatever
they call that. Now you know I'm right it was.

(20:39):
It was obvious right we all saw it. That was
not a choke job. That was a great comeback. I'll
give you credit on the hit. But it shouldn't have
been the game winning hit. You know that it was
only the game winning hit because of the error. But
that's a part of the game. Errors happened all the time, Chris.
It's about did he get rid? If? Really? If that

(21:01):
really rob you know that if you're if the if
the right fielder Chris missed the ball and three runs
came in, I got you. That's a choke job on
with two outs. That was a clean hit. You can't
get a better, more clutch hit than two outs, bases
loaded for ten? Were the bases loading? Well? Well, I
don't care about all that really really hit batter? In fact,

(21:25):
who really wasn't hit? It wasn't. I keep stopping that.
Not he hit the bat first? No, it hit both
at the same time. You listen to Ron Darling on TBS,
it hit both. You know that's not true. You know it.
Wait till we talk to Dale Murphy. All right, we'll
bring him in. All right, that's it, we know more.
All right, we're good. All right. We are bringing in

(21:47):
Dale Murphy next, the great former player. He will break
it all down for us, including was this clutch or
was this choke? Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the name. Catch all of our shows
at Fox Sports Radio dot com and within the iHeart
Radio app. Search f s R to listen live. It

(22:09):
is the Eye Couple, Chris and Rob and we want
to welcome in the seven time All Star, the two
time National League MVP, and the owner of Murf's Restaurant
down in Atlanta. If you're down there, you gotta check
it out. And Rob and I will definitely do that
next time we're down in the at l and it's

(22:31):
none other than any great Dale Murphy. Dale, Welcome to
the Eye Couple. Thank you guys, thanks for having me on,
Thanks so much, and thanks for Mitch and Murse. We're
having some fun down there, man, Robin and I will
be there next time we're Alta. We're gonna hit you up.
We're gonna let you know we're coming through. Absolutely good stuff.
Happy to have you. Let us know what you do. Hey, right, hey, Dale,

(22:52):
Lets can you straighten out my partner Chris. He's calling
yesterday's game a choke job by the Brewers. When I'm
saying that's a that's an unbelievable comeback by the Nationals.
They get a clutch. So those clutch two out hit
with the bases loaded. That wasn't a choke job? Was
Dale just before you just he's trying to, you know,

(23:12):
paint the picture his way. I'm not just focused on
the ara by Grisham, which obviously was a bad era,
but I'm talking about also Hater hitting Michael Taylor walking Rendon,
you know, three straight balls to him to start off
that at bat. So the whole inning, I just think
the Brewers fell apart more than the Nationals, you know,

(23:33):
took over and had this great rally. What are your thoughts?
WHOA let me see? Um, do I have to treat
you merphs if I get this one wrong? No, no, no,
you don't have to do that. We just want to
hear you. Okay, So here's here's here's the deal. Um,

(23:53):
that was a baseball thing. You know, Baseball stinks sometimes,
but that's what makes it great. And it's great because
sometimes it stinks. I mean, look, Zimmerman's hit. Zimmerman, hater
made a perfect pitch, exploded his back. It's a total
mistake by Zimmerman. You know it's probably a ball. I

(24:14):
don't maybe not, but the point is great, pitch by hater,
the guy gets a single. I mean, it's it's weird.
It's just like that. But there is at dot saying
that never has never proved to be wrong, is that
walks will kill you. Yeah, if you throw the ball
over the plate with the hater stuff, you know, I mean,

(24:35):
I mean, he can't be unhitable at times. But you know,
credit the credit the Nationals who um laid off some
balls that are you know, if he throws the ball up,
some guys are gonna chase it. I think Turner chased
one out of the zone, but the other guy's walked
and then we can I mean, the other guy walked
Randon and Rendon and then uh you know that then

(24:57):
he hit the guy. So I don't I don't think
about that right field play. Besides, personally, I think I
watched the replay a couple of times. It took a
funny hop. Yeah it was. It was really think. I mean,
it was a bad angle, but I thought the angle
he took was terrible. I don't think the hop was
really that bad. I I know, I'm not I agree that.

(25:18):
I don't think it was a terrible hop. It wasn't
unplayable a big league, a big leaguer. You know, I
had a coach tell me once, you know, anybody can
catch a good hot so big big leaguers, he should
have had it. I'm not saying he should now, I'm
just saying he's got to come in. He's got to
throw that ball to the plate. Uh. It took a

(25:38):
little funny hop. It probably should have been an air.
That's fine, But I think I think Hayter, you know,
if you're gonna walk a couple guys, walk a guy,
hit a guy, and then you get uh, you know,
unlucky with that pitch to Zimmerman and uh you know,
so I you know, I I fought the uh you know,
I fought the Brewers a little bit more than I

(26:00):
credit uh the Nationals for coming back. However, a lefty
verse lefty Soto facing two Yes, no, so so, there's
a lot of ways to look at it. But but
but it was a single, definite, single yeah sing so,

(26:21):
but hey, credit Soto great at bat, toughest, probably the
toughest lefty. I don't know the stats, but um, if
not the toughest, one of the toughest. Uh you know
that was that was clutch. Um So here's the other
part of it. Yeah, here's the other part of it. Yeah,
the Brewers walk, uh walked and hit a guy and
then gave up to hit the zimmerm But then you've

(26:42):
got to credit Soto for coming through. However, um, I
would fault the Brewers a little bit more than than
than praise the Nationals. Grisha Grisham, by all accounts, is
gonna be you know, he's a hot young prospect. How
difficult will it be to bounce back from this? And
have you seen players really struggling never be able to

(27:05):
come back from that type of situation, Not in that
not not really. I mean, I think he's gonna be fine. Yeah,
people are going to talk about it. But you know,
if I was, if I was his teammate or a coach,
I'd say, look, you know, and you gotta understand this.
As a baseball player, it's always focused. Well any sport,

(27:27):
the turning point is usually not the last play of
the game. You know, that's not the turning point. The
turning point was hitting a guy and walking a guy.
That's that's the problem, you know. So you know, it's
it's not that you know, they probably gave up some
chances to score early in the game. You know, we
always focus on the last play as if it was

(27:49):
the turning point. Yeah, it could. It's decisive, but it's
not the turning point. He turning. The turning point happened
earlier in that inning. What about the guilt, I think
he'll bounce back. Fine. What about the Nationals? Now they
finally got the monkey off their back? Right, they haven't
been able to advance. They've had pitching for years, They've
had good team for years. Do you think they're now

(28:12):
going to be a tough out in the playoffs because
of the pitching that they do have and now they
face the Dodgers. I think they. I think they have
a chance, a good chance against the Dodgers. Well, again,
it's baseball. Trying to pick who's gonna win these things
is tough. I mean, it can be a little unpredictable.
Obviously you got to go with the Dodgers is being
favored for obvious reasons. But can the Nationals? Yes? Absolutely,

(28:37):
you know, I think Corbin's pitch in the first game,
I think against the Dodgers, who knows he's liable to
throw six seven shutout inning. You know, it's baseball is
really weird. Obviously, I'll give the nuts to to the Dodgers.
They they're a beast. They got a great team, and
you know they're hungry to finish this thing. So uh
but yeah, yeah, you know the Nationals, I mean, the

(28:59):
Braves played the uh Brace played the Cardinals. I like
what they got. They got some good pitching. I mean,
they're they're a solid team. Uh you know, I I
think the Braves should be favored. I think they'll win,
but baseball's uh, Baseball's unpredictable and in uh at this
time of year. What do you make of the Dodgers
starting Bueller in Game one over Kershaw? Well, this is

(29:24):
this is where you got to You gotta trust your
staff and and uh, you know, you you just gotta
trust them. They're seeing what they're seeing. You know, I'm
sure they looked at all the numbers, but then, uh,
you gotta trust your eyeballs Buellers. You know, I think
they could start anybody, but eventually, uh, you know, this
is gonna happen to Clayton Kershaw's He's gonna be looked

(29:47):
at differently, and uh so you gotta trust him. I'm
sure Kershaw I'll say the same thing. But what it
does I think I think this might have happened to
Kershaw before, and he came out and was just dynamite.
You know, the game he did start because he kind
of had that proverbial chip on his shoulder trying to
prove that started Game one. So you know, I'm sure

(30:09):
they looked at everything, and you know, you can't fault
to the Dodgers for making these these kind of decisions.
They got all the info and they're seeing what they're
seeing with their eyes. Hey and Dale Murphy is our
guest on the Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio, of course,
the two time National League MVP, seven time All Star.
What about the Yankees and Twins have a series and

(30:32):
the Yankees have totally dominated them. It's unbelievable. Actually since
two thousand and three, the Yankees in the postseason against
the Twins are thirteen and two. But this Twins team
is a really good team. And are they finally gonna
gonna get overcome and slay the dragon that called the
New York Yankees? Well what I get? I guess the

(30:54):
Twins broke the single season record and then the Yankees
have the longest streak with home run. I think something
like that. So you know, it's it's got all the
makings for a two to one game, you know what
I mean, it's gonna be you know, who knows. I
don't like the Yankees long term. I just do not

(31:14):
like the lineup with I don't know what they did
this year, but I still see a lot of strikeouts.
And when you get I'm just if if we got well, yeah, yeah,
I know the numbers. And that's that's why it's shocking
to me that people aren't seeing the teams with generally

(31:37):
the lowest strikeout ratio or advancing in the playoffs. It's
because when you get a pitching staff that's going to
the playoffs, they know how to pitch, and they got
the scattering report, and they're gonna strike some guys out
the scouting report. I talked to a coach with the
Braves who was in the American League last year. He said,
what we did when we played him, I can't remember

(31:58):
who he's with. That you got a guy on base,
don't give in. Don't give in. In other words, don't
just say okay, I gotta get a groundball here. I
can still pitch out of the strike zone because you're
gonna end up with some strikeouts. You're gonna fun someone
that's gonna strike out. And I just don't like that
postseason possibilities of I mean, facing the Astros. You know,

(32:21):
I think the Yankees may beat the Twins. I think,
you know, I like them to move on, but you know,
I think the Astro's pictures will just carve him up
like like they have before. All right, it's the Great
Dale Murphy joining us. Dale. Thanks for the knowledge. We
appreciate it, all right, guy see it Mrs right, we will,
we will, and everybody down there in atl check out

you can get a large Quatro Pizza's got four sections
of classic Italian flavors, and it only costs seven dollars
and only at participating Little Caesar's locations plus tax, we

(33:25):
would be doing great. There's nothing more I want to
see tonight then, really a game that could rivaled what
we saw last night. I agree with you if that's possible,
because who doesn't love one and done situations? I agree?
It heightens everything you knew last night. There was no
turning back, there was no tomorrow night, Chris, And when

(33:48):
you got down to the eighth inning, you were like what,
I had no idea? What's gonna happen? Are they gonna
choke it down? Are they not gonna get the big hit?
Are they gonna get the big hit? I'm with you,
there's something about that. I like this. I didn't like
the wild card at first, but I do like the
one game to eliminate one. Just one wild card gets

(34:08):
in the postseason and that's it, like, you know, to advance,
not to right that I like, well kind of for
the most part. Yeah, what do you mean? Because you know,
because you got you got the one game playoff, right,
But I'm saying that's it? Yeah, Yeah, but here's the
other thing. One hundred and sixty two games coming down
to one. I get it, it's tough, but both teams

(34:29):
are under the same situation, right, Yes, I'm saying nobody
has nobody has an advantage playing at home. Isn't the
same like basketball, you know, Chris, playing baseball, you can
win anywhere. You don't have to you don't have to
be at home. Here's the other thing, and this is
good good for the A's. Apparently in the story I'm
reading from the San Jose Mercury News, they sold fifty

(34:52):
thousand tickets for the playoff game tonight. I was gonna
bring that up to you when you saying, you know,
the home field doesn't matter that much in baseball and
so on and so forth, which is true. I mean,
they seem to think they're talking about it like it
is going to be a home home field advantage for
the A's because you know, they don't draw what a
twenty fourth in the league in attendance during the regular season.

(35:16):
If they get fifty plus fifty five thousand, I think
they're expecting. Do you think that will give them the
jolt they need to beat the Rays. I just think
it would have to. It's it's more about the play
on the field. I mean, the other stuff is nice. Sure,
you want to see a full ballpark, you want to

(35:38):
hear your crowd involved. But we saw that last night.
They were bonkers in DC. What happened. They're down three
to nothing before we could blink, Right, that's what happened. Right. Yeah,
it's not automatic just because you got the crowd and
the noise that you're gonna win anything. So baseball is

(35:58):
different that way. So I still think it comes down
to it, and everybody's going to discount. See the difference
between the A's, who Chris haven't won anything in a
long time, is that they have one and they've had
championship and they've had great players. Am I right? Going
back to going back to Reggie Jackson and all those
guys has been ancient, No no, no, no, no, you

(36:19):
know you got Ricky Henderson. But also you're not forgetting
Mark McGuire with ancient history. But I'm just saying, but
they have one, is my point. Whereas the Raisers still trying.
They went to the World Series once with Joe Madden,
but for the most part, people don't look at them
as uh you know, like they look at it as
a no name team with a terrible fan base. Uh,

(36:41):
somehow they managed to make their way there, but people
don't really. I don't think I'm bel be surprised other
than Tampa Bay that people are rooting for the Rais
to win anything. Yeah, no, I agree. I think if
you had to look nationally, I'm sure people will rather
see the A's advanced because of the history. That's what
I'm saying, just because that, not that they've been so good.

(37:01):
Thought you were talking like it might have some impact. No, no, no,
I just mean like the way people look at the
two teams, right at least you know, the A's were
a great franchise. They were they the A's were one
of those national franchise. They won three straight World Series,
right to love them. And like you said, I mean,
you can go back to Reggie Jackson, Vite the Blue Fingers,

(37:26):
the great Player. Yeah, I mean, Ricky Henderson, all those guys.
Henderson's a Hall of Famer. We're in the age uniform, right, yep, yep.
I I've got the Aids prevailing the night. I mean, obviously,
Dale Murphy said it it's hard to pick these you
know these series a series, let alone a one game situation.
I'm with you, though, I like, Yeah, I like Oakland
and this as well. Um, I don't know, I just

(37:51):
I know the Rays. If you can look at their record, Chris,
the last ten eleven years, they've averaged like ninety wins
a year. Would you would never believe of amaze seem
because it just seems like there's so much apathy down
there towards them. I've been to games down there and
there's nobody in there in the stadium. Yeah, it is weird.
The A's with the Billy Billy Bean and the analytics.

(38:14):
They've been in the playoffs and the number of years,
but the place normally is just empty. And I know
they do every so often show up. But it'll be
interesting to see U if the A's can move on
and finally can Billy being in them, can they finally
like get to a World Series with a you know,
with a payroll. Let's at the bottom. I think that
the fifth lowest. As you say, no, no, and I

(38:37):
don't want to see him in the World Series, do you?
I mean, let's keep it. What do we talk about
rob star power? Right, that's what you need it. Maybe
the analytics say it's best to pitch, you know, but
five guys two innings each. But I don't want to
see that. I want to see somebody go six seven.

(38:59):
I mean, I love to see complete games. I know
that's not the case anymore, but I don't want to
see that. I want to see some star power in
the aids don't have it. So no, I don't want
them to go want them to win the night, but
I don't want them to go that far. You. I'm
not gonna argue with you. I mean, come on, so
all right, It's the Eye Couple, Chris and Robe Baseball, football, basketball,

(40:06):
The American League Wild Card Game about to start. Oakland
A's hosting the Tampa Bay Rays and Rob we talked
about the crowd that's expected in Oakland, and you're starting
to see pictures on the TV and they're expecting about
fifty five thousand. I do think this could give the
A's a boost, just because when you're used to playing

(40:26):
in front of about twenty thousand in a relatively empty,
you know, stadium. I think that will give them at
least an adrenaline rush. We'll see if it helps them
on the field, No, I agree. I mean when you
come to the ballpark and it's filled and you're you know,
you're home, you're not used to it, right, It could
help them. But still gotta go out and get it

(40:47):
done because we saw that, like I said in DC yesterday,
I mean they were rabid. They with screaming, going crazy,
and in the first inning Milwaukee scored two runs with
a home run that quieted everybody down real quick. And
we'll have more baseball talk at the bottom of the
hour in Foul or Fair with our man j R.
Gamble from the Shadow League dot Com, rob Let's move

(41:08):
to college sports and Anthony Gonzalez remember him. He was
a really nice receiver for Ohio State. Actually played about
five years I believe it was in the NFL. He
now is a United States Representative of Republican in Ohio
and he is pushing forward for federal legislation that would

(41:33):
enable college athletes to make money off of their likenesses,
images and you know, like the endorsement money, like the
law in California. This is federal, so this would be
across the whole nation. That's what makes it differ from
what just passed in California. And Rob, to be honest,

(41:56):
this is the next step, Like there's no way the
NC double A is just gonna leave all the schools
in California out and New York and see what. Eleven
other states now are looking at legislation to allow athletes
to make money off their names, images and likenesses. And

(42:16):
so this is coming and the next step is federal
legislation because that will even things out and have every
school in the nation playing by the same rule. So
I think this is has to happen. The nc double
A is of course going to fight out Gonzalez. You know,
we said he went to Ohio State Jane Smith, the

(42:38):
ad there. Gene Smith has talked about he doesn't really
like this, you know, California legislation and it's complicated and
blah blah blah. And Gonzalez has said he's gonna listen
to Smith before he, you know, really tries to push
this thing through. But it's got to happen. And I
think all of the people who are speaking out again,

(43:00):
let's let's keep it real because maybe everybody didn't understand this.
The schools still would not be paying the athlete, right,
that's not this is about their own likeness and being
able to cash that in and capitalize or not. This
is this is not about paying You're right, Chris. And
and here's now here's where this just shows you the
greed of the schools and the NCUBAA, Like UCLA had

(43:24):
that record deal with under Armor a few years ago
where they got two hundred and eighty million dollars I
believe it was, And what if some of that money
could have went to, say Josh Rosen or Linzo ball.
So now instead of getting two hundred and eighty million,
maybe UCLA is getting one hundred million and the players

(43:45):
some other players with big names, or getting the rest
of that or whatever, you know, whatever it might be.
That shows you the greed as the schools, because that's
what this is about. They want it all, they want
it all, and they don't want to share with the players,
even though the players are the sport. And I mean
any player, not just the current players, but anybody's playing.
And that's the thing that drives me crazy is that

(44:07):
people don't look at it that way. Oh, they got
a free education, what do they want. It's amateur sports.
It's not amateur and and and and and the goal
of the NCAA and all these coaches who are supposedly
all about the kids and the players. Chris, you know,
coach k has a Nike deal with but he doesn't
wear nikes. He doesn't wear nikes during the game, certainly

(44:30):
doesn't play the players, he doesn't wear them during the game,
wear shoes. Nobody sees coach Ky, this is what I'm saying.
And he has a deal for millions of dollars, and
I mean, you could even at the very least you
could say, okay, if it was the school, at least
we get it. It's the school, it's coach k, yes,

(44:54):
because because Coach k is the one who determines what
sneakers they're wearing. So he's the one, ain't it ain't
the administration, Yeah, it's Chris the idea anywhere else. Let
people if they can make as long as it's not illegal.
Why do you care what they're doing with their own likenesses?

(45:17):
You remember, like they remember, I remember it Ohio State
that when they gave the players rings or whatever and
they traded them in for tattoos or whatever. Dude, that's
my ring, right. They're gonna tell me I can't give it.
I can't sell my ring, right. I mean, even as
that was going on, I was like, hold on, you

(45:37):
gave them the ring, you gave them the jerseys, those
are theirs. Once you give it to me, I can
do whatever I want with it. Nah. I didn't steal
the jerseys from the cabinet, Chris, and then so host
them or sold them. That's wrong. You gave me this jersey.
I can do if I want to give it to
my little brother. I could give it to my little brother.
If I want to sell it for some tattoos or

(46:00):
trade it, why not? Right right now? Let me here's
another twist, Rob, I don't know if you saw this.
I love that it's a federal thing that this guy's
trying to do on a federal level, because California has
done a number of things. Chris were They're always out
in front. I think they were the ones who did
the no not no smoking first right in restaurants, in

(46:24):
public places, and it caught on all over the country. Yeah,
the millennials might not remember, but I mean it was California.
We grew up. Smoking was over the place. On airplanes.
I can't imagine playing on an airplane now with smoking.
I flew to Europe and you if you remember, Chris,
it was the last twelve rows. I was in the
thirteenth row and I probably smoked six packs of cigarettes

(46:46):
on my way to Europe with you know, with second
and small Yeah. Contact, yes, Well there's another interesting thing, Rob.
Nancy Skinner, who's a senator in California, I believe this
story is in the La Times. She believes that the law,
this type of law really s B two O six
which was the California law, could have a negative dispirit.

(47:10):
These are direct words from the story negative dispirit impact
on female student athletes. And first of all, I think
that's hogwash. Because every athlete, male, female, whatever your sport
you're going to be, it's going to be available you

(47:30):
to get endorsements or get paid for your likeness. And
everybody's thinking Nike, McDonald's, you know, Adidas, all that. It
could be a little local car dealership, yes, that wants
to have the female lacrosse team come in and say
hello and shake hands and kiss babies for an hour

(47:50):
and you get some money, no doubt about it. So
everybody could benefit from this. But what I like about this,
and I'm not trying to let the schools off the hook,
where I do think at some point they need to
pay the players too. That's more complicated. But what I
do like about this, at least this first step of

(48:11):
letting them, you know, capitalize on their images, likenesses, and names,
is that it is in It is America. It is
American capitalism in that you get what you're worth. The
country was built on it. Right, So if if if
there's one dude on the football team who everybody loves

(48:33):
and is the big superstar and he gets this, you know,
six figure offer, and no one else at the school,
no other athlete gets it. That's America. It's the same America.
You we all deal with that, right in real life.
Yes we ay, we work at Fox Sports College is
making more than everybody. We know it. Chris don't win, right,

(48:55):
Russell signed off deals. We're still gonna do all job.
We keep going all I'll call and making more money
than more money than us. If you're on the Angels
and you just saw Trunk get four hundred and thirty million,
thank you. And you're you're a minor, you're a first
year guy making a minimum Chris a five hundred thousand
or four hundred thousand. Those that's how it is, that's

(49:18):
how it works. Thank you, thank you. And look, I've
got two daughters in college. I got a female wife.
I love women, but I don't want to hear about
the women gotta get as much as the men. In
this case, if the woman is a superstar, she's the
next Serena Williams, she'll get it. And you know what,

(49:40):
but the women's sports don't generate what the men's sports,
And it's not because they just put the men's sports
on TV. So in this country, it just drives more revenue.
That's it. Period. You said you got two two daughters
in college. You know, I'm putting forty girls through school
at this point. Look at you. It ain't even it's
a worse is day? How how dare you? How dare you?

(50:04):
And here we go, Here we go again, Chris, what
happened yesterday in the game the Razor already scored with
a lead off over run by Diaz. Wow, it is
the same thing as yesterday. Yesterday it was a two
what was gonna walk? And yeah, but the home you know,
the home crowd and all that. It is unbelievable. That's

(50:27):
the thing about baseball. You just can't always figure it out.
And obviously as early as the first to bat, first batter,
Look at you, but that's something you sound like. Tim Kirchen. Wow,
that's why this is the greatest sport. You know it? Tim?
We locked that. But no, I mean right, look, I
think I'm sorry. And it's not just it's not a

(50:48):
male female thing, no, I know it. The male wrestler
isn't gonna make as much as the male basketball player.
If if somebody's gonna get paid, right, and if he does,
more power to him, right, if he's that great Olympic gymnasts. Exactly,
she's gonna get paid exactly what I was gonna say.
And she get paid more than some of the male athletes,

(51:11):
even some of the basketball and football players. So it's
it's going to be capitalism, and that's what we say
we want. So as long as that's what it is,
I think that's what one thing that is good about this.
And we can't make it all equal, everybody gets the same. No.
College is about preparing kids for the real world, and

(51:32):
that's the real world in America capitalism. So let these
people capitalize on their likenesses. So I like it. Let's
see what the callers think. Rob eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox A seven seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine. What do you think about the federal legislation?

(51:52):
Now this thing is moving past California, past New York,
across the country. College athletes being able to calize on
their images and likenesses and names and also the male
female are you bothered by that that you know, well,
the women won't get as much as the men, and
so on and so forth, you're turned away in a

(52:13):
couple of Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussar then Rob
Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific. You
know it's a worship Wednesday with Chris and Rob. Even
Rob is worshiping up in the house. Used to see them.
That's the big ends we brought to you by a

(52:33):
True Car. Because car shopping can be confusing. Turns like
dealer price list, price invoice get you all out of sorts.
That's why you need Truecar because it shows you what
other people pay for the car you want. Makes it
easy for you to recognize a good price from a
bad one and not just be at the mercy of
the salesman. So when you're ready to buy a new
or even a used car, visit Truecar and enjoy a

(52:55):
more confident car buying experience. I'm getting closer. I'm getting
closer to that True Car man, all right, closer. Yeah,
I thought you'd have it by now. It's not yet
same one. Yep, you're still looking at the same one. Okay, one,
I'm excited. So nah, I'm getting sharp. All right, all right,
all are you ready? Let's try and see what everybody
wants to chime in with on this topic. Let's start

(53:18):
with A Russell in Alabama. You're on the odd couple
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Russell? Hey, guys, I just
want to say thanks for keeping underrive my commutment Atlanta,
alban alive. So I appreciate that, Chris, thank you. I
jumped on your band wagon when you when you finally
decided You're like, hey, well bron is going to Miami.
I don't know if you remember that you only said

(53:38):
that anyway, man, appreciate it. I'm an economist professor down
here in Auburn, Man, and I'm really trying to lay
out this stuff to the students. And I listen to you, guys.
I don't want to say I'll plagiarize you stuff, but
I got a question for you. Right, so we have you.
You're assuming we're moving to you want to move to
pure capitalism and that crab because there's still such thing
as pure capitalism. We know that, but let me ask you,

(54:01):
isn't capitalism limited or laise fair government involvement? Correct? And
that's what you're doing you're saying that, you know, the
state of California or any kind of government policy is
going to override a I know the nc DOUAA is
a nonprofit, but at the same time, that's the employeer, correct,
that's the group that that that that that your part.
Are you saying it is not really capitalism because the

(54:24):
government is really the one making this happen. Is that
kind of what you're saying. I'm interested And that's that's
a very tough uh hazy point. Right. It's just like
a federal law overarching some state law or does the
states have their rights to do this? And so it's
tough because I know this is the you guys know that, right,
Russell Russell Russell, Okay, okay, Russell, go ahead. Let me

(54:52):
just say, okay real quick, it's just like uh the
salary cap and say the NFL or somebody sports those
are those would be struck down, right, they would be
struck down if if they went to court players Shigne
to agree, Chris to work under those rules. Do you
see what I'm saying you if you took that the court,

(55:14):
you would beat that. They can't tell you how much
you can make. It's not right right or where you
have to work, you agree to that right that you
you're gonna go into the drafts and then they're gonna
send you wherever they tell you to go. That none
of that would hold up by law. And I want
to ask you this because you're you're an expert and

(55:36):
I'm not. You know, I'm just saying we're in the
capitalistic society. I'm not saying it doesn't have its flaws,
but I'm just saying this seems to be in line
with it. But let me ask you this. You're at Auburn, Okay.
You see the big time college football players. I from
my experiences talking to these guys who now made the pros,
and it rid made feel the same way. Even though

(55:57):
we talk about, oh, you get the free education, I
have had players tell me you can't get like one
of the real challenging degrees as a big time college
football or basketball players don't have the time, right, So
this stuff about an education, I'm not saying you're not
getting something, but I don't think they're able to really

(56:20):
maximize that education. And of course that's talking about the
ones that stay for four or more years. So what
you see it at Auburn. Are these big time football
players really able to be normal college students academically? I
don't mean in other ways academically if they're at a
school like Auburn, can we lose Russell? I wanted to

(56:46):
hear it because you know, he's an economics professor at Auburn. Wow,
I told y'all keep you on who All right? All right,
Max and Georgia. You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio. Max.
Are you with this, hey, gentlemen, I'm definitely with that.
I wanted to rattle off some things I appreciate y'all
tick in the call life, liberty, in the pursuit of happiness,
right yea. So for me, guys and girls all above

(57:08):
the age eighteen, they can go out in the world.
They can dance on a pole, they can make it
the films. They can fight for their cotry, they can vote,
they can drive, et cetera, all of which make money.
Why not athletes and their sportives, thank you? Yeah, all
of which absolutely reliance since they were six years old,
if not younger. Um, for me, there was a girl
who's thirteen. Nike just signed her. She's a big time

(57:30):
soccer player and she was gonna go to the University
of North Carolina, which is the best program in the country.
She turned it down because she wanted to make more
money with Nike, and that's what her obligation was to do.
So her family hard just turned it down. It was
in the news recently. She's getting paid a boatload of money.
And why not, Max? Why not? She? Here's the she
put herself in that position to where she can dictate it, man,

(57:54):
and be able to wall get that kind of money. Right.
And if people want to say, well, what if soccer
doesn't work out? Okay, what if she fizzles out? And
right now you got the money to go to school, right,
go back to school. I don't know when I hear
people say that all time. Whoa, what if it doesn't work,
go back to school? I go get a job like
everybody else. Right, how about that? Hey, Dan and Detroit,

(58:16):
you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Dan? Whoa? Hey?
What's up? Man? Oh it's Jay in Detroit. Jay, Okay,
sorry about that. Love your show. I never thought I'd
like anything Rod Parker. Wow, thank you, Jaya. Anyway, listen,
I understand and nobody with good sense would say someone

(58:39):
should have money made off of them and they don't
get a cut. Right, it's common sense. But look at
it closely. You just mentioned the little girl, the girl sixteen,
why rod Jy When I was seventeen and I's got
the scholarship, I mean one of four scholarship just the
central state in Ohio. But I was seventeen, and say
I was real good wherever I went, and I gotta

(58:59):
I'm saying at seventeen, I got one hundred thousand dollars,
my thought pattern and behavior would be a lot different
than the normal what do they call it? You're saying
you think you would have wasted it. Yeah, I was
wasted and probably would have. My whole my whole attitude

(59:20):
on life would have would have been different. That's what
I'm saying. I understand that it's like slavery that they're
doing to the kids. Jalen Rose was it somebody that's
cool when we were in Detroit, you know, I know him.
He was the first one that really brought that up,
that was really thick. Pete awful about it because of
the Fab five stuff when they were really changing. They
sold a lot of stuff with the Fab five and
they got nothing right. I'm gonna say this to your point.

(59:44):
To your point, look, first of all, the kids their money,
they can do what they want. I would like if
I say I was in that position, and I was
playing in college, and I was getting one hundred thousand
dollars a year or something, that would have really been
going into an a bank account that my parents, you
know what I mean, My parents would have been there
to handle. Unfortunately, everybody didn't have, you know, parents, They

(01:00:08):
kind of are at a stup. But I would like
to see the money kind of at least a good
part of it placed in some type of fun for
these guys, you know, these athletes, so that when they
get out, it's there for him. But you know, some
of their families have immediate needs. Let's let's see exactly.
Let's squeeze in a couple more. Jeff and and Tulsa.

(01:00:29):
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Jeff? Hey?
So was Howard he is? Thankfully I didn't follow that
professor because my information is not as profound as that guy.
But he was. He was taking this into deep water.
He was gonna, Yeah, it was gonna be a while
if he stayed connected, I'd still be waiting on a hold.
But look, if I'm Tommy b Ornson from Appleton, Wisconsin,

(01:00:51):
and I'm a sophomore volleyball player on a D one
scholarship because I'm a pretty good dang volleyball player and
I can't make money off my likeness, I mean, that's
too bad. Right. But if I'm if I'm Adrian Peterson
to use an older name, right, and I'm coming out
of high school and I'm the number one running back

(01:01:12):
in the country, and i can make money off my
jersey and my likeness, let's do it. I mean, more
power to me. I love Tommy b Orgson. If I'm
watching volleyball, He's the number one guy I watch. But
if he can't make that happen, that's, you know, generate
as much money football and basketball, no doubt in college

(01:01:36):
him in Bakersfield. You're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What you Got? He's going on love You Show, Show,
Thank You. Let me speak you a little experience here.
I have. I have a daughter who was offered four
scholarships to wrestle in college, and none of them work
good enough for her to take it, so I don't
have a problem with kids making money. My only concern

(01:01:58):
is what are you gonna do with that money? Are
you gonna pay taxes with the money? Because I have
to pay taxes anytime I'm making anything. Oh no, you
got yeah, yeah, they gotta know what I'm saying. Yeah,
they'll pay. They gotta pay. It's just like a college
kid who's not an athlete making money from some job
or whatever. Oh yeah, no doubt. But anyway, that's all right.

(01:02:18):
I appreciate it, Thank you, thank you. All right. Coming
up next, JR. Gamble will join us in Foul or Fair.

(01:02:39):
That ball is it was a big week in the
Big League. Who's Who's Is it foul or is it fair?
And now here's the odd couple with Shadow League dot
Com MLB insider JR. Gamble. All right, guys, this is

(01:03:00):
Gavin here. We have JR. Gamble on the line. Let's
say hello, Yeah, what's up? Fellas The incomparable odd couple
with back again Jr. Quickly quickly it was last night
a choke man, a great rally. No, I think it
was a great rally. Yes, and I was hoping that

(01:03:22):
would be a Questionably, how can you how can you
blame grist for that one plane? When Hayler came in
with the lead, there were numerous things that led right,
it was change. It wasn't just Grisham, it was Hayter. Two.
Can we get on with Fouler Fair? I can't believe you.
J Rosen text say, here we go. That was a

(01:03:45):
little bonus, Fouler Fair, a little bonus. Al right, guys.
So the way the game works is I will throw out,
throw you out some questions in the world of baseball,
and if you think it's foul, you're here. You'll hear this.
That is a foul ball. And if it's fair, you'll
hear this. Let's get it going. By the way, who
is getting getting going or another A's are putting on

(01:04:06):
the rally themselves. The base is loaded right to out, guys.
Let's start with the wildcard structure. Let's say they implemented
the second wildcard spot in twenty twelve and has produced
a ton of great baseball. Eight of the fifteen wildcard
Card games that have been played, including yesterday, have been
won by the visiting team. But many would rather see

(01:04:29):
a three game series as opposed to a one game playoff.
So my question to you, and we'll start with JR. Here,
is it foul or fair to say that the wildcard
games should be decided in a one game playoff? That's
that is a foul ball. I can't stand it. Baseball

(01:04:49):
isn't that kind of sport. The outcome of a baseball
game heavily depends on who's pitching that day. I for
one game, anything can happen, as you saw last night
with the walking. You can never say a team supposed
to win one baseball game. Football is built game by game,
Baseball isn't. That's why you play one hundred and sixty

(01:05:10):
two games to get to the winner. Then postseason come
and you totally change the dynamic of the sport to
create this fraudulent one game playoffs. It's exciting for three
games is way more of an indication of who the
stronger team is, and more games would make baseball more
money anyway, So I totally don't get it. Jr. You

(01:05:31):
couldn't be more wrong. It's fair. Whoa, it's fair. It's
fair from this standpoint. Where's the music, No, no, no,
it's all good. It's fair from this standpoint that they're
wild cards. They didn't win their division. They don't need

(01:05:51):
to have that. They should have, they've been they're lucky
that they're even in the playoffs. So you have two
wild card teams that weren't good enough to win their division.
They don't deserve that. Only one wild card should be allowed,
and we don't need a series. You gotta win a
one game and then whoever wins that game gets to
join the rust of the guys, the rest of the

(01:06:12):
teams that have earned their right to be in the playoffs.
And I love the way it is. It's exciting. It's
one game, winner takes all. You don't normally see it
in baseball, but I think it's exciting as it gets.
I'm with rib on this. This is fair. Obviously, we
get what you're saying, Jr. But look baseball, the nature

(01:06:32):
of the sport period, even in the series, you often
get the worst team winning. I mean baseball that especially
a three game series. Yeah, it would be a little
more indicative of who's definitely the better team. But you
just don't get that in baseball. It just is what
I mean, the one sixty two games that probably is
the best indicator, better than even a seven game series,

(01:06:55):
five game series, whatever. So baseball, that's just the nature
of this sport. And it's the same playing field for everybody.
I mean, if you're right, it depends on who's pitching.
Throw your best pitcher, save him Strassburg out of the bullpen.
Yesterday you got one game, and it does put you
at a disadvantage, which it should if you should win

(01:07:16):
and go to the next series, because you may have
had to use your horse in the wild card game,
so you're at a disadvantage, but you should because you
didn't win your division. So I'm with Rob. I think
it's fair. It's fair if it's your team that wins.
All right, guys. The Angels fired Brad Osmuth after only
a year. They fired him a day after Joe Madden

(01:07:38):
became available, him and the Cubs splitting ways. Of course,
Madden spent thirty one years in the Angels organization, coaching
at various levels, so it seems like a foregone conclusion.
That he will become the next Angels manager. Anaheim has
had four straight losing seasons and hasn't made the playoffs
in six years. So I want to know from you

(01:07:59):
and we'll start with Jr. Is it foul or fair
to say that bringing Joe Madden back to Anaheim will
secure them a spot in the postseason next year? Next year?
The Angels have too far to go for a changing
manager to fix everything right away, but long term, Like

(01:08:21):
we spoke about on your Inside the Parker podcast yesterday,
Rob Man is no brainer. His track records out of
a winner dating back to two thousand and eight when
he left Tampa Bay to the Pennant, Madden has won
ninety games and nine of the past twelve seasons. He
proved to be a franchise of building with the Rays
and the worst of his chance with the Cup. And

(01:08:41):
if you look at the available candidate, well, Madden's the
best choice. If anyone can help the Angels get back
into contention, it's Joe, But it Jeff might take three
to five years because the Angels avoid ofcause it's been
talent right now outside of Mike Travel. Yeah, I tend
to agree with Jared, but I'm gonna say fair. I'm

(01:09:03):
gonna say fair, though, I mean, you're right. I like Madden.
I love Madden their long term and even in Tampa
Bay Chicago, he did turn them around immediately. He got
him into the postseason. I think they had had a
losing record before that year the year before that, So
he did work his magic in Chicago. And you do
have some things to work with. I mean, you got

(01:09:24):
oh Tanny, you obviously got Trout. You know it's a
team with talent. They need some pitching for sure, but
I do I'm gonna give Madden the benefit of the doubt.
The dude is a great motivator and players respond to him,
so I think it's fair. Of course, I'm with you.
I think it's fair. They have way more talent than
they should not be as bad as they have been.

(01:09:45):
And you just said it, o' tany and Trout. Those
are two anchors to start with, right and then you start.
All you gotta do is go out and maybe add
you another picture in free agency or a big trade
and get a picture and right away that team is
back in the mix. So Madden could do that. He
has worked his magic. He got Tampa Bay to a

(01:10:07):
World Series. He can get the Angels writing, could you
tell that? All right, guys, nice and quicksons, we're up
against it. Is it foul or fair to say that
the Astros and Dodgers are on a collision course to
meet in the World Series? JR? You go ahead, Faust,
that is a foul ball. The Yankees and Cardinals might

(01:10:29):
pass something to say about that. Nothing's before gone conclusion
in baseball. Asked Games Roberts. Dodgers managers won one hundred
games twice in the last four seasons, and he lost
the last two World Series. Um, the assholes have the
advantage of pitching. They can hit with anybody. But we
know October Baseball is about three things clutch it, unforeseen excellence,

(01:10:54):
and underdog dramatics. If I'm the Assholes and the Dodgers,
I'm not booking a ticket to the World all right now.
I'm with JR. I think that's foul. We talk about
the sport all the time. Man, It's it's the most
fickle sport of the major sports out there, and you

(01:11:14):
never know, Like look last night Rob said it. Maybe
the Nationals are bolstered and emboldened by what happened last night.
That's their first if we can call it the series,
the first time advanced from around in the playoffs since
they've been in Washington. Jr. Brought up a couple of
good teams, obviously the Yankees. You can't just write them off,
and no way you can just write them off. So yeah,
I think that's fine. Well, I'm with all you guys.

(01:11:37):
It's five foul ball. It ain't automatic. And in baseball, Chris,
we talk about it. The best team, the team with
the best record doesn't always win. It just doesn't happen.
It's not automatic. Sure, should the ass shows be the
favorite they have the best record, write in baseball, and
the Dodgers have the best record in the National I
get it, But it doesn't mean that those two are

(01:11:58):
going to have a rematch like twenty seven teen. So
it is foul all right, Jr. Great job, man. We
always appreciate having you on. Yes, sir, thanks. The pledge
is always mindsellers, always mind, all right, brother peace. Derek
Carr came to the support of his teammate Vantez Perfect.

(01:12:19):
Does that change your mind on Perfect's banishment? We'll talk
about it next. It's the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussar then Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern,
four pm Pacific. Are you digging in the crates? Dj?
TISCHERT I'm a little dusty right now. CB carrying for man. Yeah,

(01:12:40):
I'll just dug into my pocket. Man, I'm pulling off
some change for this one with the place. Rob, you
ain't got no change, my god, that's all I got
saved that from mondays Man. What didn't want to change?
We're getting. We're getting spiritual up in here. Case you
feel that you can feels that Rob only has singles? Yeah,
I feel that you don't feel hot in here like

(01:13:01):
you feel that. I feel you feel that maybe you
want to drop to your knees right now, and that's
a drop? Why? And you want me to repent? Moving on?
Derek Carr he speaking of love and feeling it. He

(01:13:23):
gave some love to his teammate Vontez Berfect and Rod
we gotta say this, Uh, they love Vontesz Berfect in
that Raider's locker room. They voted him a team captain.
This is his first year there and he somehow he
impressed those guys so much, so fast that they voted
him a team captain. So I'm sure Derek Carr is

(01:13:44):
not the only one who is distraught over his suspension
for the rest of the year. The only thing I
gonna say, Chris, and I'm gonna well, let's let's hear
from Carr first, and then you can go ahead and
you'll take over from there. Go ahead. This is Derek Carr.
The hard thing for me to understand is we say,
you know, we're all about people, but sometimes we don't
get to know people, right. I think he's one of
the most misunderstood people in the NFL. You know, we

(01:14:07):
see other people choking people out and they're gonna play
this Sunday, and we see other people hitting people in
the helmets and they're gonna play this Sunday, and Vante's
perfect won't play the rest of the year. I think
that's a little excessive, if you ask me, I don't
think it's fair. I'm just being as honest as I
can be, because that's who I am. He's a great person.
His heart is broken because he's not playing football. I
know the history situation and all that kind of stuff,

(01:14:28):
but this one, especially with what went on there during
the week. If we're gonna be fair, we need to
be fair with everybody. No, Derek Carr, No, I don't
want to hear it. And you just pooled pooled the idea. Well,
I know the history. You can't clause over the history.
This guy's been fined and suspended over and over, but

(01:14:50):
playing his own brand of football, we can't have it. No,
I'm sorry, Derek Carr. You just him, You're gonna miss
him because you a good player. He can't play like that.
This isn't the first time that he did something wrong. Chris,
Come on, Derek Carr. And I'm waiting because everybody always

(01:15:13):
back to their teammates no matter what they do. I'm
waiting for somebody to stand up and say we can't
have this in the NFL. I know he's my teammate.
He's got to sit down and learn how to play
the game the right way, the way everybody's supposed to
play it, the way the rules are laid out. People
are getting heard, the safety. Where's that You're gonna sit

(01:15:37):
there and talk about hard no about the history, but no,
you don't, and you glossed over it. Stop with this
whole thing pity party. They didn't. They didn't ban him
for the whole year the first time he made an
offense or made up or did something wrong. Chris, it's
a pattern. That's why they throw the book at people
when they have priors. Because you've been here for for

(01:16:03):
I'm with you. I couldn't have said it any better.
I mean, look or everything. Derek Carr said he's a
great guy. He's misunderstood. That might be true. Maybe he's
nothing but kicks and giggles in the locker room. Maybe
he's you know, compassionate with his teammates. Now, I mean

(01:16:25):
in the past he's fighting dudes, but he was breaking
up fights this year supposedly. You know, maybe he's a
great guy, but that's not the issue. The issue is
what is Vontast Berfect due on Sunday afternoons? And what
he does is head hunt or me hunt. He's trying

(01:16:49):
to injure you, and that's what he was doing on
that play. Thank god, Jack Doyle was not hurt because
Berfect tried to decapitate him. It was fine in the seventies,
the eighties, the nineties, maybe the early two thousands, and

(01:17:10):
you know, I'm not trying to take the violence and
the hard hits out of football. But that was beyond
the pale and the history. You cannot ignore it. Nobody
ignores the history. I got two daughters. If one of
them was always defying me, always screwing up in school,

(01:17:35):
and the other one never gave me any problems, never
gave the teachers any problems, was a great model student.
You bet there's going to be a different way of
doling out the punishment because of the track record. None
of us can get away from our track record. And

(01:17:57):
I hope what he said is right that Vane Perfect
is heartbroken because he's good and he's only twenty nine.
So if he's really heartbroken, which means he's really remorseful,
he's really repentant, and he's going to change his ways.
He can still hit hard, can still tackle dude's heart,

(01:18:18):
can still lay cats out, can still be a team
leader in an intimidator, But you come back doing it
the right way because you're remorseful in your heartbroken. That's
what the NFL is trying to get at, and Derek
Carr and everybody else in the league will be better
for it. If Berfect learns from it, including Berfect. It'll
be better for it too, no doubt about it. Spot

(01:18:41):
on Chris, all right, it's the Eye couple, Chris and Rod.

(01:19:26):
it's gonna get It's gonna get hot in here for
sure for Bernie. But we will have some fun with him,
for sure, having fun. Nobody's having more fun Rob Parker
than Yondi Diazz of the Tampa Bay Rays. He's got
two hold runs now see and and we we always

(01:19:47):
bring it back to analytics. What do he have? Fourteen
homers this season. His last home run was July twenty second,
Chris July, and he has two in a playoff off game.
That's what we're talking about. You can't measure your hearts. No,
you can't measure coolness under pressure. You can't. There's no

(01:20:12):
metric for it. So you gotta let guys play, your best,
guys who've been the best. Let him play, and uh,
look at him. He's doing something special tonight. It's looking
a lot like last night. I mean four always obviously
a bigger league than they had last night because there
was three nothing up dead. Remember the Nationals look dead

(01:20:32):
for a while, and then they finally got to run,
make it three to one, and then they exploded in
the a So Thea's have to hold it here, Chris
to four, and then they need to get a run
next inning or so they got They gotta get some
life and get that building going and try to get
back in the game. They're rut of the game right now. Yeah,
no doubt. They gotta get something going. So all right,

(01:20:55):
let's go to football of the NFL rob and look,
the la Rams are three and one. But people are worried.
I felt all along that they were going to fall
off this year. Now, I may have thought they'd fall
off a little more than they actually would have. I

(01:21:15):
didn't think they make the playoffs, and maybe we'll see.
They got hammered last weekend Tampa Bay. Yeah, they're three
and one, right, and they beat New Orleans, they beat
they'd be three good teams. Carolina is still pretty good team. Um,
but they even though they're three and one and they
look like they're gonna make the playoffs, they don't look

(01:21:37):
like a super Bowl team to me. And the main
reason and they're just two but they're related. Todd Gurley
is not the same rout the first game. First game,
he looked he did look like the old Tid Girley.
That's what I said. You know what, maybe I was wrong.
He looked like the old Tid Girly. Had ninety seven

(01:21:59):
yards on fourteen carries. Look great. But since then he's
averaged about three and a half yards a carry in
the last three games. Last game against Tampa Bay five carries,
sixteen yards. Now he had two touchdowns but five carries.
He's only had twenty three touches in the last three games.

(01:22:25):
Last year, he averaged no Two years ago, he averaged
twenty six touches a game. So they are using him differently,
and they're playing this, they're towing the line like, oh,
he's the same, No he's not. It's starting to get
embarrassing for girls. If he's the same, then Sean McVeigh

(01:22:45):
has lost his mind. Wouldn't you agree with that? Rob, Yes,
because you're not using him like he's the same. He
used to be your workhorse. As much as we praise
Jared Goff for what he did under Sean McVay, as
soon as McVay got there, the guy that carried the mail,

(01:23:08):
the guy that was the engine, he was there, Ezekiel Elliott.
It was Todd Gurley And even in the Super Bowl
the record was Chris for them. If Gurley gets what
was it, thirteen carriage of sixteen carriage, they were like
they never lose. And in the Super Bowl he didn't

(01:23:29):
get it, and they would you know what I mean?
Like like, if I'm a coach and I see that record, right,
what we are when he gets thirteen or sixteen, I
can't remember which one it was. I gotta get that guy.
Some carries something that's wrong, right, And mcveigh's not hasn't
lost his mind. He's not dumb. So we know that
something's wrong with Gurley. And I mean, look, if you

(01:23:51):
get somebody to replace his production like they had from C. J.
Anderson last year, you'll be fine. Right, you got two
one hundred yard rushers. Yeah, when they beat the color
to rand the Cowboys off the field. And here's what
I think, Rob Jared Golf is a good quarterback. I'm
not sure. And in fact, I don't think he can

(01:24:14):
carry your team without a great running game. I don't
think he can. And I know he threw for five
hundred yards against Tampa Bay, but obviously that was just
an offensive bonanza and he had three interceptions in two
or in a fumble. Um, yeah, I'm put poopoo and

(01:24:34):
Tampa Bay all right. I mean they're okay, Well you
think they're about to do some damage. No, Jamis looked good.
I mean, Jamis is so inconsistent. I don't know what
to make of them. But you know, I'm just saying
I don't think. Like, here's my concern with the Rams.
Ti Gurley is not the same, and that means there's

(01:24:56):
more pressure on Jared Goff. It's just like you talk
about with Dak He needs Ezekiel Elliott to be Ezekiel
Elliott for himself to shun. Yeah, I think now golf
is a little is a more gifted pastor pastor, I'll
give you that, But I don't think he can carry
a team through the air if he's got no running game,

(01:25:20):
do you No, I think that it hampers him. And
that's that's my concern about the Rams. This is big
because again, they look like they'll make the playoffs, but
that's not the goal anymore right to the super Bowl.
He's not just trying to make the playoffs. No, that
would be a cop out. You're not even just trying

(01:25:42):
to make the super Bowl, trying to win the super Bowl. Yes,
and they don't look as as gaudy as their record is.
I like. I mean, I know they beat New Orleans,
but I think I like New Orleans better. I still
like Dallas better. Yeah, I said it. I'm glad you
feel that way. I'm not there yet. I'm not ready

(01:26:04):
to write off. They had a bad game. They were
three and old and they got their butts kicked at home.
I had bad loss, Chris, bad loss. But I'm not
ready to write them off and say that they're not
gonna be in a mix. Now. I don't know. Fifty
five Sean McVay. Maybe as he lost a little luster,
people figured him out. Is that is that the run

(01:26:26):
and rain of boy genius just last as long as
a cup of coffee in a sweet roll? Do you
know what I mean? Maybe they figured him out. Well,
what's you're feeling on, girly? Are you concerned? Yeah? I
mean it doesn't make any sense. I mean, I'm with you. Uh,
why are you giving him the ball? He must not
be helped off in order to be able to get

(01:26:47):
five carries? Five carries just doesn't make any sense at
the very lead you to pay the guy that kind
of money for him to have five carries because you
thought that this guy was was your horse, that's what
you thought. Thank God for him, he got his money.
He got it at just the right time. But uh,

(01:27:08):
they're at the very least, rob they feel like we
gotta save him till the games really matter, i e.
The playoffs. At the very least, right, you're trying to
just you know, load management. You're trying to get through
the regular season with a good enough record to make

(01:27:28):
the playoffs. And then you'll unleashed Girly. That's at the
very least, right, I think that's being optimistic, that's putting
on the rolls colored glasses. But I think what it
is is that they that need he's got the tender
nitis and he doesn't know what he's gonna have week

(01:27:51):
to week, let alone the team and the coaching staff
know him. So they can't build the game plan around
him like they used to because they don't know if
he's gonna be right. And it's it's an unfort It
is sad because he was a I hate to even
say it that way, was a but he's a great

(01:28:12):
running back. Great. You know, we see guys lead the
league and rushing or come close to leading the league
and rushing just come out of nowhere, here and there.
But Girly was different. Girly was one of those guys
where it wasn't Jess always got a great offensive line.

(01:28:34):
It wasn't just this is a fluke. I'll give you
a prime example, James Connor. Right, Yeah, I know you'd
like to bring up they didn't make the puzs, but
James Connor put up numbers last year, right, still didn't
make the playoffs. But go ahead. But you know what
I'm saying. But when you look at Todd Gurley and
James Kinnor, there's a difference. I don't care if their

(01:28:57):
numbers are exactly the same. Girly was different. Girly had
all time great talent. That's what he had. He had
Hall of fame talent, and it's been a long time
since we've seen that. Maybe he can do that once
every six weeks, but I don't think that's good enough

(01:29:20):
because I don't think Jared Goff is good enough. He's good,
but he's not the Aaron Rodgers, the Pat Mahomes, the
guys like that, who even if they don't have the
running game, they're still carry you with their arm, right right.
I don't think that there's not a lot of quarterbacks

(01:29:41):
who can do it, but there are a few Chris
and you mentioned them. Other guys need something. And if
you don't have it, all of a sudden, when all
the Prussias put on you to make plays and make
throws all of a sudden, is not nearly the same
results that you see when you have uh a little

(01:30:02):
extra yep, and the defense can't key in on you
because they're not sure what's coming. No, you're right, And
you saw golf. I mean he missed miss Brandon Cooks
on the past and probably would have been a touchdown
miss somebody else on one. Um, he didn't get it done,
and so he that's to me, that's a storyline to watch.

(01:30:22):
Everybody knew to watch girly, but now you have to
watch golf, and and you probably you gorobably got to
watch the defense too. I mean, I know you got
Aaron Donald and all that, but you gave up a
double nickel to Jamis Winston. Yeah. That was probably the
most shocking of the weekend, am I right? Just yeah,

(01:30:46):
I did not believe, especially when you talk about that
game was in Los Angeles. I mean Detroit played well,
Um they didn't get it done, right, Tampa went in
and got it done. And you know, let's see, let's
give him a chance. I mean, you got Bruce arians.
Maybe he's you know, maybe he's turned him around. We'll see,

(01:31:08):
it'd be nice and thinks that he is one of
those gods good turn the franchise around quickly. Yep. So
all right, you're turned the way in and some Ram
fans out there, Rams fans are not Does Jared Goff
have it? Can he carry you? If Tid Gurley is
not Tied Gurley? And do you think Tid Gurley is done?

(01:31:32):
I mean, you know, being what he used to be.

I got soul. DJ Alex more than the board up right,

(01:32:16):
that's doing your thing. I don't even know what that is. Rob,
I'm sorry an engineer. All right, Let's go to the phones.
Rob eighty seven seven ninety nine on Fox. What do
folks think about the Rams and their problems with Girlie
is in golf? Is this? Uh? It sounds like a
little baby making music? What is this that sounds like

(01:32:39):
is that Ann Nesby? Got it? All right? The blackness? Rob? Yeah,
that was she was? It sounds back, Okay, some al
green in here too. That man. It don't get more
soulful than that. That's right, all right. We're gonna start
with Bow in Texas. You're on the odd couple of
Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Bow? Hey? What's going on? Fellow?

(01:33:00):
Say Chris? I love you, man, Rob, I'm not sure
about you yet. Hey, Hey, you know on the top
Burle Tod Girle. We're gonna find out layer down the
road that something significant was truly wrong with this Pollennial
All Star athlete. And you know we're in the NFL.

(01:33:20):
Guys even't you're supposed to disclose, but you just can't
certain situations. If you want to wear a stake, confeditive
and make the defenses, uh, you know, prepare for them. Um.
So you know that's my take. On a second note,
let's not complicate the NCAA. They've been making free money
for a long The guy called the guy called an
say you're gonna pay taxes. Let's let's not. Let's not.

(01:33:41):
Let's don't dumb it down. It's money if you make money.
You gonna pay taxes just like the other everybody else.
And I was twenty two. I was trying out for
the NFL. Then I realized I could go make ninety
thousand dollars being an international sales executive for Federal Express,
and I did. I had some of my money at

(01:34:02):
the age of twenty two, twenty three. So don't let's
don't let people fool you saying he's atleach, you know,
do this with the money. Whatever they're gonna do. What
any other trust fund baby between the ages of nineteen
or twenty six. They don't have fun with the money,
just like anybody else would. Your mistakes, then you invest,
then you get smarter, you start playing me by by

(01:34:22):
a house, So let's stop. Don't let you your calls
off the hook. But no, no, no, no, no, no,
you're right ball. I appreciate that call. What about Mike
in New York? You're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up you guys? What's up? Mine? Man?
All right? I got three things. One. I think Todd
Gurley's demise is really sometimes really overstated by the media.

(01:34:47):
Seems like when he has a good game, it's quiet
and as soon as he has a bad games, look
at that time track, look at it. I told you,
And it's like with Jared Golf. I believe that this
year he's gonna take as have you seen him? He
doesn't look that good this year, but I believe he
deserves a mulligan. He just let us take to the
super Bowl. Why does he deserve a mulligan? You mean

(01:35:11):
for the one game or form? And I'm glad you said,
because I was just about to ask you this. Why
do you believe that is a winner or better than
Jared Golf? When Jared Golf is undefeated against dead in
the playoffs, let us team to a super Bowl and
he's thrown for thirty games before. I think Dak has

(01:35:32):
the intangiles that Golf doesn't. I think Golf is more
talented as a passer, I'll give you that, but I
think Dak has more intangibles. Um And and Girly, Come on, Mike,
he's averaged three yards to carry the last three games.
Don't tell me it's overstated. Girly was awesome Hall of

(01:35:55):
Fame caliber in my book, and he's not looking like that. Now.
All right, let's go to Paul and Toledo, Ohio. Paul,
you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
how you guys doing. Hey guys, Hey, one thing about
the Ram game with Tampa last week, they were down
twenty one nothing. I changed the whole offensive plan. Oh yeah, okay, yeah,

(01:36:19):
you know what. You're right, right, you can't run the point.
That's a great point, Paul. You can't run the football, right,
You got to push the ball down field, right, Okay,
that's number two. New Orleans when when they had virtually
they they slowed down the Rams running game, right. Breeze
played for the better part of the first half. Girly

(01:36:40):
not not effective. Dallas lost to New Orleans. Elliott did
not catch or run the ball at all. And and
if you look at the game against Tampa Bay, they
still put up thirty three points with that offense without
a running game. So do you think, Girley, you think

(01:37:02):
his woes are overstated or are you saying in golf
can carry on without there's something to it. There's there's
something too girl, Girley not being nearly as effective. I
agree with that, but I'm still saying there's still an
offense that is to be reckoned with you put up
thirty three points, that's generally gonna win you three out

(01:37:23):
of four ballgames, guys, right, and if you called New
Orleans to nine points a Bridgewater, no Bridgewater. Also, I
wanted to bring up one one point you guys that
I would listening to another show uh TC and Charlie
Casserly was on there and he was talking about the
NFC right now and he put the best team as

(01:37:44):
New Orleans. Would you agree with that as far as
them being the best human is he's projecting. He's projecting
them in a few weeks with Drew Brees and and
and doing the same thing. I would say I right now,
it could change. Right now, I would pick New Orleans. Okay,
okay with Breeze, but I'm telling you it's gonna it's

(01:38:05):
gonna be a long climb up hill with Bridgewater running
that team to get that, you know, say what or
and four? I don't know. I would say their best
if if if Breeze was out for no, no, but
but but with that defense, man, I mean, if they
play that kind of defense, they can win. And you

(01:38:25):
don't have to have a quarterback do anything major, right,
you don't have to just not make the big mistake
not turn the ball over exactly. Lou in DC. Hey, Lou,
you're on the out couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's happening?
That's how we are doing? Man. Hey, Man, I'm gonna
take it off topic and I don't want to talk
about my home team over here. Man, we got clown

(01:38:48):
show going on. Man. I got my coach talking about
he don't have a quarterback for this coming Sunday. Man
didn't they just draft a quarterback in the first round? Exactly? Man?
What what what is going on? Man? You guys? Do
you guys even care about talking about our franchise? I mean,
it's just it's bothering me, Like I want to just

(01:39:09):
go ahead and kind of burn everything that I have.
You know, what's funny is that we have that schedule
for the last fifteen minutes. That's that's US ninety five
Eastern sixty five Pacific, So we did have that on
our sheet. We haven't gotten there yet, but we're gonna.
It is a mess there, you know, and it Jay

(01:39:30):
Gruden's a mess too for a long time, right, I
mean just terrible. Can we squeeze in another one? Yeah?
Gil in North Carolina you're on the od couple of
Fox Sports Radio. Hey, how's it going to fellas like
y'all doing tonight? Doing great? How are you? I'm doing well.
I just wanted to come in on at least on
the names that were mentioned as far as that Aaron

(01:39:51):
Rodgers and Carson Wentz and Pat my Homes. The one
thing that that's different about these guys and that just
happened to golf, is all of these guy guys have
just been with offensive, great minded people. Like everybody knows
that Pat Mahomes was a raw armed talent until Andy
Reid had him for a couple of years, and you
could say, you know, when Carson got the Philly he

(01:40:13):
had frank Uh. There's a there's a multitude of situations
where quarterbacks have that offensive guru that kind of I mean,
even Kirk Cousins, who's struggling in Minnesota. Now, um my
question is do you think a team or an NFL
Super Bowl Championship contending team could have an offense that

(01:40:36):
strictly predicated off the pass and not so much on
the run. Yeah, I mean Kansas City does that. They
got the best offense in the NFL, and they they
are all about the past. So yeah, if you've got
that special quarterback Green Bay Rob for how many years,

(01:40:56):
well they have they done it without much of a
running game. Really didn't have a running game for a
lot of that. But if you got that's that's special.
But most guys aren't that good right where you can
do that, So it's a it's a it's one of
those tough situations. Most of the time. You need to
keep the defense honest, right, which means that they don't

(01:41:17):
know what's coming. Yep, yep, no doubt. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard
and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern, four pm Pacific.
He was making a joke that we're talking hockey, which word.
Nice nice Trob, Brian, very nice. Thanks guys. All right,
sorry about that, man, I didn't get it. Sorry, Char

(01:41:38):
you're fired. Rob's been there before though. Just shake it
off and come back with your next corner. Oh yeah,
there we go. All right, we are coming you live
from the Getico Fox Sports Radio studios. It is easy
to say fifteen percent of more on your car inshures
with Geico. Go to Geico dot com. Or call eight
hundred nine four seven autl. The only hard part is
figuring out which way is easier. It's time for the

(01:42:01):
hot seat, damn son. The current temperature, the odd couple
are making it hot in here, damn hot. Time to
sit your butt down in the hot seat. All right, guys, Gavin,
here again we head to the Vegas Strip to welcome
in Bernie Fratto. Take your seat the Fratto house, all right,

(01:42:24):
So there he is. Were you ready for this, Bernie?
You know, Chris, I don't want to say I'm nervous,
but I got rope burns from my rosary today in
preparation for this, because I know you guys don't play.
They play, They just play dirty. So all my third
time in the hot seat, so I you know, I
get thirty name Burnie because he's thank you, very good,

(01:42:52):
thank you, thank you. All right, So Bernie's got three
of his hottest takes here. He told me after this
is all over, he might be the sis medical attention today.
These were four These were scorched in the Vegas sun.
So let's start right here. Bernie's gonna get thirty seconds
on the clock to defend his case. Bernie says, that

(01:43:12):
the Minnesota Twins will be the will win the al
Pennant this season. They will. They will also win the
World Series. I believe, Bernie, go ahead and defend your case.
You know, when I was growing up, I wanted to
be a garbage man because they only worked Tuesdays. But
now when I grow up, I want to be rockleball
Delhi because he's presiding over a team that had the

(01:43:32):
best road record in all of baseball, had winning season
records against the Yankees and the Astros. They've got the
Obamas who hit moon shots and they hardly ever strike out,
and their midseason bulletin overhaul is going to enable them
to step up just like the eighty seven and ninety
one Twins did and shocked the world. I saw these
guys up close and personal in Boston a few weeks back.

(01:43:54):
I'm killing you, man. They got enough junk in their
trunk to beat anybody. The Twins win. Bernie ahead, Bertie stopping.
I know Rolph's gonna say the saying was I get it.
You're trying to be that guy. You know, you're trying
to pick that team that nobody else is picking. You

(01:44:15):
don't believe in the Twins, but you want to be different,
you're just throwing it out there. You're casting lots, You're
doing your best to be different, and you're you're gambling.
I get it, but you know you can't pick the
Twins over the Astros or even the Yankees that're going down.
And you know it, Chris, the statement like that is

(01:44:38):
so offensive. You're sucking my will to live. Roco Baldelli
is the X factor. This guy is cooler than the
other side of Stuart Scotts Pillow. He plays bass guitar.
He was told by Bill Belichick in high school he's
the best athlete he's ever seen. And he's even in
the Rhode Island of Italian Hall of Fame. Rumor has it,
by the way, Roco Baldelli hangs out with Dish Chapel. No,

(01:45:00):
this is one time we're keeping it real terribly wrong.
Sandwich and Bernie, you said that you wanted to be
a garbage man, and I noticed comes back from your
youth after that answer you gave, because you came out
and you saw the garbage man, and then you ran
out there and you said, hey, am I too late
for the garbage And he said, no, jump in especially

(01:45:23):
when you talk about the Twins and the Yankees. The
Yankees on the Twins, they've won ten straight playoff games
against them. They have crushed them and ended this season
time and time and time again, and this will be
no different. I'm sorry. The regular season doesn't matter. It's
about the postseason. That was a great round. I do

(01:45:44):
have to give it to Bernie. Yes, if you need
a reason, that Dave Chappelle joke was great. So we're
gonna we're gonna give we crushed him, Chris that you
had a good start. I don't know what We're gonna
change the spelling up his name to be you are
in all right, guys. We talked about this earlier, but
Gavin Newsom implementing putting the bill forward to pay the

(01:46:07):
college athletes. Bernie says that the name, Likeness and Image
bill signed by Newsome is a joke. Bernie, thirty seconds
on the clock. Defend your case. You know I can
see it now. Joe Slobotnick to back up second Basemin
for Texas State. He's going to get his picture on
the side of a bus and make a million. This
concept will benefit so few people it's not even worth

(01:46:28):
talking about. There's four sixty thousand Division one athletes. How
many of do you really think this is going to help?
And won't d damn do? It gets to take effect
in January twenty twenty three. How does that hope the
kid who wants to go and have a happy meal tonight.
This is grandstanding at its best. If it works, great,
But I think it's stupid and I love the college

(01:46:50):
student athlete experience. Bernie, you were the same guy who
pooh pooed when California stopped smoking into restaurants. You said
it wasn't fat, it would never catch on. You were
so wrong, And you know, if it helps one person,
it's good enough. The NCAA is a fraudulent organization. That's

(01:47:11):
a second involved organized crime. Stop it. They've been robbing
the kids forever. You don't know, my lie, this NCAA,
this rule will change that. You know you're rob I
know you're smarter than me. In fact, I know you
were a class valedictorian of your summer school remedia class
when you repeated the eighth grade. But still there's people

(01:47:32):
living in Squalor, on the streets, among fiefs and syringes,
and this Gavin K. Newsome, clown is kyletowing the high
profile celebrities, gabn Newsom, Mike took Us. I'd rather have
Ozzy k Newson as governor. Goodness here, taxpayer money going,
it's such a great cause. Oh wait, look, Lola Plome
Junior is the best volleyball player in NCAA history. Just
gout an endorsement with wait for it, nobody. This thing

(01:47:56):
is completely one sided. They all get left out except
for a few, Bernie, what you're missing are the local opportunities.
You're right, there's only gonna be a handful of football players,
a handful of basketball players, the golfer here or there,
the you know, maybe one volleyball player or soccer player
or whatever get national deals. But locally, you could have

(01:48:18):
the whole across team get paid to come and kiss
babies and shake hands at the local auto dealership or
you you bring, you know anywhere, you can go to
a local place and sign autographs. These small towns, these
kids love the college athletes, even the lesser sports. So no,
it's it's gonna be good for them too. Good takes

(01:48:42):
on both sides. Bernie did have a good point with
the homeless problem out here, we'd like to see that
get addressed as well. But first, I do like the
pay for play that what's going on here with this.
We're gonna give it to the odd couple guys took
him to the shed. I liked it. Yeah, I like
you taking the NCAA nick to bend the knee. Who
liked that? All right, Bernie, final one for you here.

(01:49:03):
This was a scorcher. My hands are still like burning
from touching the paper when I read this one. He
says that kickers are the most important position in football. Bernie,
you might need a minute on this one, but we're
gonna give you thirty seconds. Go ahead. Someone asked Paul
McCartney if Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world.
He's not even the best drummer in this band, McCartney said,

(01:49:25):
But no ring will start no Beatles as such, no kicker,
no football team. Kickers have the most scoring chances. They
score the most points. And try winning your fantasy league
without a kicker. By the way, next time you're in Buffalo,
don't mention Marv Levy or Jim Kelly. Mention Scott Norwood
and see the reaction you get. Kickers get no respect.

(01:49:45):
If you don't think kickers are the most important players
on the team, you're just simply missing the point. Do
you want to did Bear? Dude? I did Bear? Bernie
stop it. I mean, they could eliminate kickers tomorrow and
the game would actually get more exciting. I'm with you.
A good kicker helps. But let's not overstated. If you

(01:50:06):
got rid of the quarterback, the games would be horrible.
You got rid of the linebackers, you got rid of
the defensive backs, the left tackles, the running backs, the
games would be terrible. You get rid of the kickers,
nobody misses them. If that, teams are now going for
it or fourth down. So, like I said, the game
would be more exciting. You're fishing here, fishing out in

(01:50:26):
deep waters, and you failed. Chris. You know I love you.
But if I give you a penny for your thoughts
on this, so you'd have to give you back change.
Buddy Ryan's once said kickers are like tact cabs. They
come along every five minutes. Buddy ryans an idiot. Kickers
are not only special, they got cool names like Horset
Meulman or Mick Luckhurst. Help. The Bears even signed the

(01:50:47):
guy last April Naan blew it. I'm serious. His name
is Chris Blewett. That's not only a name, that's a
complete sentence. In fact, the kicker is so important they
don't even have backup kickers. They got backup quarterbacks, backup
running backs, but no backup kickers. I rest my case,
my drop. Stop it. You sound like Tom Brady talking

(01:51:07):
about Adam Vittari. What are you talking about. You need
a quarterback more than anything. A kicker is nice to have.
But if you don't have a quarterback who can move
the ball down the field unless he's kicking a ninety
yard field goal, I hate to break it to you,
he needs help, so Bernie, I'm not buying it. You
could not be more wrong. The kicker is not the

(01:51:29):
most important. Hate to break it to you. Kickers do
have cute names. I remember the Chargers had Young Young
Way Coup not too long ago. But no kickers. You know,
the entire position should be eliminated from the league. In
my opinion, the odd couple takes this one. But Bernie,
you'll be back. You'll be back around for Bernie. Don't

(01:51:51):
take care of your wounds. Go lick your wounds. And
then come back in about three weeks. That's oh man,
When you talk like that, you made my teeth it.
But I'll say one thing before you let me run.
You guys are still the Goosh Sports, the greatest five
seat players of all time. My man, great job, Man
as always, thanks a lot, Thanks for having me, guys,

(01:52:14):
God bless Yeah. All right, more I Couple coming up.

But do your thing and tell your friends, your enemies,

(01:52:58):
your neighbors, your co worker, there's your family members, everybody.
Tell them about the Odd Couple podcasts so they can
join in on the fund with Chris and Rob. All right, Rob,
let's wrap it up. You you mentioned earlier to a caller.
They brought up the Redskins and Jay Gruden. They're all
types of rumors about his job insecurity, and there's talk

(01:53:22):
that he could be fired next week if they lose,
which they probably I don't even know who they play,
but if they lose, he could be gone. They're obviously
owing for They're horrible. What are your thoughts? Do you
have any thoughts on Jay Gruen? Let's hear he seems
to be kind of losing it under the public. Yes,

(01:53:43):
he's all flip and whatnot. I think I think he
was ready to get fired. Yeah, sounds like it here
he is was sort of the disruption at quarterback right now.
I mean, is there a part of this that could
kind of ruin a development or damage the development of
Haskins at all? With thanks a lot us first year,
you know, I think, uh, you know, different quarterbacks. You know,

(01:54:04):
throughout the history of the NFL, there's guys that are
more ready to play early, and there are guys that
may need a year or two. It's it's it's really
dependent on the player. It should not hinder his development
whether he gets thrown out there and doesn't perform him
up to speed, or whether he sits for a year
and learns the system and continues to see how to prepare.
You know, it's it's not the end of the world
if he doesn't play another snap. If he starts every
game and doesn't do very well, it's good experience for him.

(01:54:26):
So he can argue both sides of the coin. Right here,
No matter what we do with him, we're going to
be wrong. I don't think that's a bad answer until
the last day. That's a defeatist attitude. At the end,
Christ the rusted is up and you win a few games,
like Daniel Jones, right, I agree, he's not even considering that.

(01:54:50):
That's what we're talking about. He seems resigned to being fired.
It's just so embarrassing. I mean, what they're doing in
the way that they played so far. Chris, Seriously, if
you're the owner, how could you feel good about He's
been there for a number of years. It's not like
he just got there yesterday. Enough already. Seriously, it's just embarrassing.

(01:55:11):
They don't even compete. I don't know if this is true.
I heard a few other analysts say it, and I
felt the same way. Again, it's speculation, but it doesn't
I just for some reason. And again I could be wrong,
but I don't feel like Jay Gruden is pulling for
Duwayne Haskins. No why they draft him right against his will?

(01:55:37):
You know what I mean? Maybe I mean he looked.
He's right in that there are quarterbacks that need a
year or maybe more before they can develop into franchise
quarterbacks or starting caliber quarterbacks. So he's right about that.
But I just don't get the feeling that he's pulling
for Duwayne Haskins. I don't. And maybe he look I mean,

(01:56:00):
they're talking about Colton McCoy like he's gonna be the
savior right at this pint could be Radi'm coming with,
you're owing for put the kid in, let him take
his lumps to can't get you can only you might
as well see if he can really play. That's what
I would do. I don't. I don't understand what it
is that they're saving him for. You drafted him in

(01:56:22):
the first round. You're owing for your being an embarrassed
Let's see if the kid can play. Now, unless you
really believe, like the offensive line is so horrible and
this kid's gonna get killed and we don't want to
do that that I'll buy into it, but you might
have to make you know, without saying that the offensive
line Chris is bad, saying that we'd rather wait. Yeah,

(01:56:44):
I think with Jay Gruden, the position he's in is
and look, let's face it, Haskins hasn't shown us a lot.
You know, in the preseason he made some bad decisions.
You know, he's got potential, no doubt. But then in
the regular season game he played him through three picks. Okay,
So so we get that he may not be ready.
But I think Jay Gruden's thinking is this, I need

(01:57:06):
to win now. If it's Colt McCoy, if it's case Keenham, whoever,
I need somebody that can win me games right now
to save my job. And I think that's why he's
not that high on Haskins, because he knows he's not ready.
But Jay Gruden's not your course. Look, as as bad
as Jay Gruden may be, he's not the worst problem

(01:57:31):
they got there. They got problems all over the place
in that franchise, no doubt. It's just a bad look right,
it's a mess. So uh, look, the Radskins are all right,
They're gonna ride. I want to I don't know if
they played Miami this year, but I'm not sure Miami
wouldn't beat them. Miami's you know, they've they've put up

(01:57:52):
some fights recently. All Right, it's the odd couple of
Christ and Robs signing off. We will get with you tomorrow,
