Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntire.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up, Street Fire? Play up?

Speaker 3 (00:13):
It's me Jason McIntyre, Straight All Yer or Monday, November
the tenth.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
It was an amazing, incredible weekend, and not just on
the gambling front.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Overall.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
It was just an outstanding weekend. A lot of relaxing.
I didn't play hoops for the first weekend in a while.
You know, I got two championship games this weekend or
this week coming up, so I had to like rest
up this weekend, just some light lifting in cardio to
get the get the body right. Oh gosh, I'm fired.
This is gonna be such a great weekend. It started
on a banner note. You know, my Jets make a

(00:47):
couple of trades on the deadline last week.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
I got in the picks this week, the picks for
Banger four and one in the Contest Survivor hits.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
And then all these true people trying to get cute
and Survivor were like, ooh, ooh, give me the Carolina
Panthers and Bryce Young and I was like, I don't
know about that, And of course they got smacked around
by Tyler Shook and the Saints. I was like wow,
and then the Buffalo Bill's go down. So survivors down
to I think we have it at one sixty left.

(01:16):
The pot is significant, not life changing money, but certainly
in their short term it would be very amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
We got a long way to go, got a long
way to go. But listen, overall, I.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Think several large takeaways from the weekend, and yes, we'll
get to I know Lions fans are cannibells take it over. Okay, well,
just let's settle down. We'll get to that shortly. I
did have a que hot take on a quarterback I'm
gonna save, and I will say one coach did something
just so amazing that I love. It's smart, It's like

(01:50):
real life stuff can apply to what we'll talk about that.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
But I gotta start with the washed King. Can we
call him that? Aaron Rodgers?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
My gosh, he was so bad on Sunday Night Football.
He looked old absorbing that safety in the end zone.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
He saw Khalil Mack there basically like an old guy
falling down the stairs.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I mean, he just lost the football, fell on it.
It was a horrific performance.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
At one point before Rogers was like, damn, this is
one of the worst performances I've ever had.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Can we do the hurry up offense and get a
garbage time touchdown? And then he did that and got
some cheap touchdown there at the end, but completed barely
fifty one percent of his passes five point two yards
per attempt, two picks I know one was in his fault,
three sacks absorbed. I see Steelers fans being all defensive.
You guys have lost three or four. The win over

(02:39):
the Colts was fool's goal. They turned it over six times.
If a team's not over turning it over six times,
you're not winning. And this was a humbling game for
Mike Tomlin. I mean the public was loaded up on
the Steelers. Joe Alt not playing for the Chargers. Oh wow,
it's a layup. I even said that, not that it

(03:00):
was a light up, but no, Joe Walt, I can't
back the Chargers. And then at the in this picks
pool at the last minute, I was like, you know what,
the whole world is on Pittsburgh. F that, no way
I'm going Chargers. And of course Chargers deliver. Here's what's
scary if you're a Steelers fan. So Aaron Rodgers was terrible.
Order went down. I didn't see if he returned or not.

(03:22):
Looked like maybe a concussion. The Steelers losing three or four,
fall to five and four. Okay, Baltimore Ravens were not
gonna really.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Talk about him.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
They got to win over the Vikings. Baltimore Ravens win,
and now the Ravens are four and five and they've
won three in a row.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
And what did you know it?

Speaker 3 (03:40):
But the Ravens still play the Steelers twice. So remember
a few weeks ago, I was like, guys, you really
want to consider betting the Ravens to win the division.
And at the time, you know, there was so many injuries.
They didn't look good, and everybody's saying, eh.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I don't think so. I think Pittsburgh's got it.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Well, you look at the Pittsburgh schedu They've still got
two against the Ravens. Pittsburgh has to face the Buffalo Bills,
and I know the Bills lost, but the Buffalo Bills
are really freaking good. There is a game left against
the in Detroit that is not gonna be easy, and
you gotta go to Chicago this week.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
They'll get a win over the Bengals for sure.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
I'm considering Steelers and the survivor will talk it over,
but I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I just watch Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
I'm like, I'm so glad the Jets parted ways with
this guy because this is why we got him, right
to elevate the defense. The Jets had the defense. They'll
go look they that year he played four snaps and
got injured and Zach Wilson had to come in. The
Jets defense ranked third and EPA per play, they were
the third best defense in the league. Rogers was supposed

(04:48):
to elevate them.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
He gets hurt. So what's happens the next year?

Speaker 3 (04:51):
The defense starts out not as great as third because
defense is far more variable year to year, and Rogers
has opportunities in the four quarter and fails repeatedly.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
You could go look at the games they were close.
Rodgers had the ball in the fourth that's why we
got the.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Hall of Famer, and he failed and then they fire
Salah and you know the rest is history. It just
went all downhill from there. But I just wonder what
Steelers fans are thinking, like, oh, we had a good defense,
it's now stinks. And Aaron Rodgers is not elevating anyone

(05:25):
around him, and damn, are we gonna miss the playoffs?
And I think that's real. I don't even know if
Pittsburgh makes the playoffs. And frankly, I just don't see
after this if they missed the playoffs, why would anyone, Rob,
anyone want to take a bite of Aaron Rodgers, who,
by the way, has been, you know, largely a model stitizen.

(05:46):
I think he threw one wide receiver under the bus
in the preseason, one of the young.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Guys, but largely, Hey, the vibes have been good. They
were winning.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Now there's some adversity, lost three of four. Rodgers has
a horrible game. I'm very curious Rob, how things go
in Pittsburgh this week. Now they do have a, like
I said, a lay up against the Bengals, so the
win that and get back on the winning track.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But overall, I just I'm waiting for the implosion.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think you have to wait
very long. I think this is something we all kind
of projected. I mean, I actually have here saved in
the dropbox promo highlights folder. Jason McIntyre October twenty sixth,
The Steelers are frauds. So it's not like this is,
you know, groundbreaking commentary coming from you. The one thing
I will say, and I'm not I'm gonna push back,
not hard, but just like a little tap on the
shoulder for you. I cannot with a straight face say

(06:35):
that Aaron Rodgers looks washed, but I will say he
looked pre soaked as fuck last night, Like he looked terrible.
It was the worst game I've seen him play in years.
But you know, to defend him a little bit, coming
into Sunday's game, he was top ten and passer rating,
he was top ten in yards per game, and he
was top ten and compleation percentage. So he was okay, right, Like,

(06:59):
he hasn't been bad, he hasn't been great. He's been
a slight To counter that, yeah, slightly above average quarterback
in today's NFL. The problem is when you brought in
Aaron Rodgers, the expectation was, hey, we have the most
expensive defense in the league. Have you seen our secondary
with Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay and Joey Bordytuu, Like

(07:19):
we TJ Watt up front, Like we have dudes everywhere.
If Aaron Rodgers, right, If Aaron Rodgers can just get us,
you know, twenty three points a game, we are going
to be not only the best team in that division,
we're going to be a super Bowl contender. And what
we've seen is number one, the defense is nowhere near
what they thought it was going to be. In fact,

(07:40):
they've been flat out bad for most of the season.
And number two, Aaron Rodgers is just not capable of
elevating a team like that anymore. This is not the
Aaron Rodgers of five six years ago. Like he is
not gonna say, hey, I have one good receiving option
Devontae Adams, I have one good receiving option Jordy Nelson,

(08:01):
And now I have one good receiving option DK Metcalf
watch me work and no, like Dk Metcalf, as far
as talented and as highly paid as he is, runs
like four routes. And Aaron Rodgers is not the kind
of quarterback where he's like, hey, have you just run
a streak or a slanner or a comeback lay? I'm
just gonna hit you every time Like No, he needs

(08:23):
to have some synergy with his guys. He needs to
have some variation with it, like he was spoiled for
a decade plus with Devonte Adams arguably the best route
runner in football, and so you're asking him to kind
of put a lot on his shoulders and do more
than what I think the expectation was coming into this season,
and you're seeing it play out in real time that
this team is not very good. This offense is mediocre

(08:45):
at best, and just because the numbers say he's a
top ten quarterback, he's not getting top ten quarterback results.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, the numbers are interesting.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
So some of these old school numbers, you know, passer
rating and all this stuff, say Rogers is not terrible. Okay,
some of the new fangled stats are saying, yeah, he's
actually terrible. So Pro Football Focus had him at twenty
seventh out of thirty six qualifying quarterbacks coming into this game.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
He probably will drop after this.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
And Shale Capatia, who we've had on the podcast, said
after this game, in drop back success rate, which I
sounds like it basically is every time you drop back,
is your place successful or not, Aaron Rodgers ranks thirty
out of thirty third qualifying quarterbacks. And the argument there is, well,

(09:35):
how is it possible that passer rating as him at
this but drop back success rate says he's one of
the worst in the league. Well, they have been really
good in the red zone thanks to some you know,
fade patterns and timing patterns in the red zone. And
then a couple Jalen Warren splashed dump offs that he
you know, makes moves on and picks up fifty sixty yards.

(09:56):
So it is weird, like from a down to down perspective,
Rogers is not delivering.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
At the end of the game, the numbers don't look terrible.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
I mean, one on one can only tell, like which
would you rather have. I would rather take the give
me successful every play than you know, some fluky red
zone stuff which isn't translatable. But you look around the
league and like, I mean, I think people are kind
of surprised Rob is how good some of these other
quarterbacks are. I mean, I didn't want to pivot this
guy this quickly to this guy, but I mean, Rob

(10:27):
Drake may by a lot of metrics, is already like
one of the best quarterbacks in the league. And I
watched that Patriots game a lot. I like the Patriots
in this one they win and cover against the Bucks,
and it was like Todd Bowles coming off of by
actually Bulls is one in five off by You know,
Drake May on the road, tough spot. They beat up

(10:49):
a lot of bad teams. I mean, Drake May was
freaking unbelievable. Are you ready for this stat? So again,
I don't want to go overboard on Drake May. But
against Todd Bowles defense, they had four hundred and thirty
five yards of offense seven point four yards per play.
They lost the turnover battle one nothing, and they still

(11:11):
win their seventh straight game.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
They had.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Now Trayvon Henderson went nuts, the rookie from Ohio State
had too long. He had a fifty five yard touchdown run,
which was amazing. And then May made one of the
best passes of the day to a gentleman named Kyle Williams,
a rookie who I'm not that familiar with. It was
one of these crossing patterns and he just put it
over the DB's shoulder into Williams's standard. He just took
it to the house.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
So I looked, I'm like, what am I missing here? Look?
You know who the most targeted Patriots receiver was yesterday,
Machollins ten target, six catches. I mean, he's got Digs
and mac Hollins and a bunch of like Damerio Davis's.
He don't have anything resembling a number one ride receiver,
and he's absolutely crushing it. He's got a rookie running back.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Now, he has a really good head coach, and obviously
John be Daniels thse offense. But my hot take, Rob
is that I know everybody got all excited with CJ.
Strout with that rookie year with the Texans, and then
year two regression.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Year three, I.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Mean he's knocked out with the concussion. Now year three,
don't he don't look good at all. Now we could
make excuses the offensive line, they've had some offensive coordinator issues.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Blah blah blah, he's regressed.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Jayden Daniels phenomenal rookie year last year NFC Championship game,
and yeah he's regressed and now he can't stay healthy.
And then waiting in the wings is mister Drake May,
who it's still unfathomable that last year's head coach, Gerard

(12:43):
Nea was like, I'm starting the best quarterback on our
roster and it wasn't Drake May.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
I think it was Jacoby Brissette. I'll have to check that.
And Drake May comes on the middle of the season.
He's fine, he's good, He's taking a lot of hits.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Drake Bay starts this year and he's freaking unbelievable and
I mean probably too hot of a take for Monday Morning, Rob.
But from what I've seen from Drake May this year,
winning from the pocket, I mean, just a phenomenal performance
all season. I know he's been in the blue medical
tent a few too many times. They should be able
to coach that out of him. I'm ready to say

(13:15):
I think Drake May has a much bigger upside than
Jane Daniels and c J Strout. This is a guy
who is basically elevated in year two while the other
two have regressed. Bo Nicks, look at what defense has
got a year of bon Nicks year two.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
I mean he looks awful. Thursday he was a.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Borderline unplayable And here is Drake May getting better in
year two.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Rob. Yeah, Drake May is the real deal. Holy Field
so much so, I know you love this conversation. He
is currently the odds on favorite to win NFL MVP.
Oh no way, And for good, Rea favorite right now
Sunday into Monday, November tenth. He is currently the odds
on favorite, and for good reason. All Right, here's a
couple of stats, some that you probably know, one that

(13:59):
will blow your mind. So he is currently number or
top five in touchdowns. He is currently top five in QBR.
He is currently number one in passer rating. Technically Lamar's
ahead him, but Lamar's in qualified because they played five games,
and he is currently leading the league in completetion percentage.
Those are the ones you probably already know because you've
probably seen him splash lower Twitter. Here's one you probably

(14:20):
don't know. Drake May up until this last Sunday's game
against the Tampa where because the interception kind of ruined
his passer rating in that game, had previously eight consecutive
games with at least two hundred plus passing yards at
a one hundred plus passer rating. The other guys who

(14:41):
have done that in a season Patrick Mahomes twenty eighteen,
Peyton Manning two thousand and four, Tom bradywo thousand and seven,
and Aaron Rodgers twice twenty eleven twenty twenty all went
on to win the NFL MVP that season. So Drake
May is not just having a good season. Drake May
is not just kind of having a coming out party.

(15:02):
Drake May is showing you that he's already here like
this is not like hey, he's the next big thing. No,
he is the thing now and the sooner people accept
that the better, Because if you look on at a lot,
whatever your favorite spot is, you know, fan duel, DraftKings,
bet him, yet wherever, they're all gonna tell you that

(15:25):
it's looking more and more likely that Drake May or
Daniel Jones is gonna be the one seed in the AFC. Yeah,
and that's something that I don't think anybody had on
their Bengo card coming into the season. Drake May, despite
having what Stefan Diggs coming off of major injuries, your
number one receiving option is looking as good or better

(15:48):
than your favorite quarterback. There is a good reason why
a month ago, before he even really took off on
this this this run that he's been on, you had
a nine to miss NFL executives and coaches telling the
athletic that he's an elite quarterback, that he's the next one.
I know everybody's excited about Jade and Daniels. They were

(16:10):
really excited about see strother do guys you mentioned, but
when they go pound for pound, I test with stats
and all this stuff included. Drake May is the one,
to a man that they said, no, no, If there's
anyone who's going to crack the Big four, it's him,
and you're seeing it, and I think that you are
spot on with your day right now.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
It just sucks that as a Jets fan, you guys
had well the Patriots, ain't you, But the Patriots had
Brady he finally leaves. They look to be in disarray
with Cam Newton, mac Jones, you know, coaches cycling through
and now you've Leonard on Vrabel and Drake May. I mean,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news Jets fans,

(16:47):
but those guys aren't going anywhere for the next decade.
You know, there's so much happening. Obviously NFL Mondays are big.
I you know, I want to talk about Jets in
the draft, but we'll have plenty of time. Future Jets
quarterback to steal Rob G's future Laker, future Jet Fernando Mendoza,
what are game winning drive for Indiana. I'm excited to

(17:08):
see him in the Green and White next year, although
the win over the Browns kind of hurt. I think
the Jets are fourth or fifth in the Tankathon number
one pick ratings.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
But we can only talk about good teams on here.

Speaker 1 (17:21):

Speaker 3 (17:33):
A quick quard of caution for Lions fans specifically, I
got two buddies who were a big Lions fans, and
I get it. It was an awesome win over Washington.
I was loaded up on Detroit. Everybody had Detroit. The
house got destroyed on that one. But the big story
coming out of this rob was Dan Campbell has taken
over play calling duties from John Morton because there were
some issues that of course they kind of were like,

(17:54):
we don't know what it was, but you know, so
Dan Candell takes them over and oh, by the way,
Lions had two hundred and eighty nine yards at halftime,
five hundred and forty six yards of offense, seven straight
touchdown scoring possessions, not touchdowns, seven straight scoring possessions and
then Gobs just sits down, and so all these lines
fans are like, yeah, baby, he's not just a walk

(18:15):
around guy, Dan Campbell, He's a scheme guy.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Guys, can we chill out? Okay?

Speaker 3 (18:22):
We just can we settle down? Ye beat sad sack Washington.
They look like they've quit on the season. They have
now lost four straight games by twenty one or more points.
I think that's gonna be a record. I'm not one
hundred percent sure. They literally have no receivers. Luke McCaffrey
is out, mcclaurin's out. I saw they picked up Treylon

(18:43):
Burks off the scrap heap he was in like I
think Tennessee. They drafted him out of Arkansas.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
I like that guy.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
He can't stay healthy. He's not a good player. Deebo Samuel,
he's definitely eating at all the nice restaurants in DC.
I love Deebo Samuel. He even when he I think
he caught a touchdown pass. I was like, is that Debo?
I mean he's put on some pounds. I'm just telling
you we need I'm not going to judge Dan Campbell
on a beatdown of a hapless Washington team that has nothing, Okay,

(19:15):
I need let me see what they do against the
Eagles next week before I give Dan Campbell all the
flowers for Oh my gosh, he fixed everything. Now, I
will say this is what I anticipated would be struggled
when Ben Johnson leaves. There were some struggles, clearly to
the point that Dan Campbell said I'm taking over play calling.
I mean, listen, they had lost two of three. But

(19:37):
it's no I mean they lost to do a division rival,
it wasn't a home which wasn't great, and then they
lost that Kansas City I mean, not the end of
the world. I still think the lines are good. I
will say their wins have not been super impressive.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Here the quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
They beat Marcus Mariota, Baker Mayfield at home, Jake Browning,
Dylan Gabriel Lamar and what at the time was a
good win, but within a week we were like, yeah,
that's not a great win. And then Caleb Williams, so
let's see how they do against the Eagles, and then
they get a layup against the Giants. Then it's Green
Bay Dallas like Rams, We're still we don't know how

(20:16):
legit the Lions are. Obviously that's a good win, but
I did mention Caleb Williams and Rob. You know I
was gonna I have all these topics lined up. We
could do an hour easily, but nobody wants to do
an hour. Listen, Nobody listened to it out in an
hour NFL podcast, and Rob mentioned Caleb Williams is worthy
of discussion. So the one pick I missed in the

(20:38):
contest this week was Bears ONNUS four and a half.
I really like the Bears. I love that game, and
the Giants had a million guys hurt. Giants are the
worst run defense in the league. Everything lined up for
the Bears to dominate, and then what happens. They sputter,
they play with their food, and next thing you know,
they're down seventeen to seven and at one point twenty

(21:00):
to ten. Now, of course I put out this tweet
that all these New York Giants fans are pissed off
and they're tagging all these New York radio people. Oh
j Bax wants a quarterback to get hurt, No, I said, essentially,
as Jackson Dart is just running around and embarrassing the
Dennis Allen Bears defense.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
The only way the Bears are going to win this game.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Is if they knock Jackson Dart out, that's it because
Jackson Dart is literally killing them.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
He was.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
I mean, the kid is has moxy. Now again, I
don't think he's a franchise quarterback. I haven't seen enough.
He definitely makes plays, but his style is not sustainable,
and I think Rob and I've talked about this. He
cannot survive. He leads them and carries at one point
with six carries for sixty six yards, and he does
another run and he's trying to get extra yards and

(21:46):
they just wallop the living daylights at him. He's slow
to get up. Okay, so the drive ends and then
on the next drive he comes in for one play
and then they take him out and he goes to
the locker room concussion. I'm telling you he has taken
so many hits this year. There's no way he can survive.
So Russell Wilson comes in. I got this stat because

(22:07):
I spent the time crunching the numbers like a loser
in the box score. So Russell Wilson came in for
three drives and they had seven plays on twelve yards
essentially to end the game.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
They could do nothing.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
It was bad and of course, Caleb william comes back
at the end. And it's interesting because you know, everybody thinks, oh,
Caleb cat he now has four game winning drives his season.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
That's amazing. Yeah, that's good. But essentially he's not throwing
them to victory. How's this?

Speaker 3 (22:38):
So in the fourth quarter he had thirteen dropbacks because
they're trailing. That doesn't mean he threw thirteen passes. Six
of them he scrambled. He essentially doesn't want to make a.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Mistake, does it, totally trust himself, doesn't feel like he
can make the tight window throws and decides to scramble, which, listen,
he's athletic as hell.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
That works.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
I mean they were down ten with six minutes left
at like inside their own end, and he just kept
you know, winning.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
With his legs. Again, that's not sustainable, guys. And yeah
for a week, sure, wonderful. I'm happy, you know, great.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Actually the line was three and a half early in
the week, so I did win one bet but lost
four and a half and nobody cares. But I just
I am an idiot.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
So Rob, I think is right on. Like this, Caleb
Williams excitement, like, let's just chill again. You want to
see what a winning quarterback looks like. Drop back in
the pocket, make reads, make throws, anticipation throws, tight window throws,
Manda Man covered zone covers. You got to be able
to beat all of them, and there is not a
lot of quarterbacks who can do that. Now.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Caleb's young, He's in year one of the Ben Johnson offense.
I'm not ready to say whether he's a franchise quarterback
or not.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
I mean, he's going to.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Get the opportunity as well he should. But I think
Rob and I would agree, like I don't know what
he ultimately is as a thrower. I know he's a
great athlete and he can make plays and scramble for
his life. And that game winning touchdown run was pretty awesome.
I was excited, I was hyped, But this to me,

(24:12):
Rob sums up the Bears and some of their issues.
So last week Djmore had an awesome week for my
son in Fantasy right, he put him in for Dobbs
late and Moore had a good game this week. I
noticed the matchup, I saw the weather. I said, Bryce,
get DJ Moore out of there. I don't like it.
Roma Dunza's dad made some little kerfuffle on Twitter by

(24:34):
liking some tweet or Instagram about if they're not gonna
use Roma Dunzae, they should trade him. So what do
you think happened this week? Djmore zero catches on four
targets Roma Dunzae, who caught nothing last week six catches
on ten targets.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
Rob.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
They're still playing these childish games where it's like, oh,
we've got to keep Roma Dunzae happy, so let's force
feed it. But Caleb, be careful, don't screw it up.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
What in doubt? Just chuck and run. Okay, fine, fine,
but I don't know are you on board with this, Rob?
Or are you more in the camp that, hey, Caleb's
got something.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
No, you're so right, you can't turn left right now, Jim,
you're just going to circle Like this is gonna sound
Rob with me here for a second. The idea that
wins are not a QB stat was something that was
brought up a lot, like with Jimmy Garoppolo, like he's
the guy always thinking like, hey, everybody knows, Jimmy Garoppolo
is not a great quarterback, but forever reason, he wins

(25:34):
a lot. So that's when it was like, well, wins
are not a quarterbacks stat, Like look at Jimmy g
And when you watch Caleb Williams, you're gonna say, like,
what are they six and three? Now? And you mentioned it,
He's now had four game winning drives this season and
going back to last season. This is a fun stat
for you. He now has five game winning drives since

(25:56):
week team of twenty twenty four, most in the NFL
during that span, most of this season, and most going
back to last season. And you think to yourself, well,
of course he must be a good quarterback then, because look,
he's got these game winning drives, like only good quarterbacks
do that. But if you watch the games and you
see a guy who was uber talented, no one's ever
questioned that. You see a guy with an electric argue.

(26:18):
You might even say he has the top one or
top three arm period in the NFL. No one's gonna
question that either. But when it comes to playing quarterback,
my man leaves a lot to be desired. And I
was watching that game. A lot of it had on
the big teeth on the big TV part of the
multi screen situation, and yes, his receivers had some drops.

(26:40):
I will push back on the Pro Football Focus, and
I think they had him credited with six drops on
the game, and either they have a different grading system
than I do. But I think just because it hits
you in the hands doesn't necessarily mean it was a drop.
You know, just because the receiver is able to get
his hand on it doesn't mean that it was dropped.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
It could have been what about two hands. If you
can get two hands on.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
It, sure, but it's like there's somewhere It's like the
receiver extends fully all the way out and he gets
a fingertip on He's like, well that's a drop. It's like, well,
you know, I would disagree with that, but whatever, he's
credit with six drops. There was a stat going into
the last drive of the game where he has the
game winning touchdown on which was a great run. As
you mentioned, his completions percentage over expectation was minus eighteen percent.

(27:24):
He still sprays the ball all over the field. He
still does not play in rhythm, on time on target,
and that's a big reason why I think to your point,
any given Sunday, yeah, that might work. You might get
a game like this where you come back and you
stun a team that you probably should have won comfortably
to begin with. But you come back and win that

(27:45):
game on a week to week season a season type situation, No,
this is not gonna work. Caleb Williams has six wins
this season. He beat the Cowboys and a bottom three defense.
He beat the Raiders, who are not good but their
middle of the pack defensively, the Commander, there's the Bengals,
the Giants, all bottom five defense, and then the Saints,
who have been playing better recently so now they're number twenty.

(28:06):
So No, if you're playing a good team or you're
playing a playoff team, which they think they are, that's
not going to work. You can do that against the Giants,
the Bengals, the Saints, the Commanders, the Cowboys, and the Raiders.
You cannot do that versus good teams. And that's why.
A week and a half ago, an anonymous NFL scout
spoke with The Athletic about Caleb Williams. They asked them,

(28:29):
you get your honest thoughts about the Williams Ben Johnson Perring.
He said, quote, I have not seen a ton of improvement,
Kaylen Williams. I see a guy reluctant to fall into
the confines. Of a system, big arm, enough athletic ability
to exploit coach with his legs. You get the flash plays,
but you also get the frustration with the inconsistency. It's
hard to win games when you play like that.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
That.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
If that is not an exact summary of what we
saw on Sunday, then I don't know what is you
saw at times, especially with his legs. God damn Kayla
Williams is electric man. That throw he had to z
a kias in the back of the end zone, which
that was a legitimate drop. That was a hell of
a throw. There's only three guys in the NFL can
make that throw. But then you watched like in the
second quarter on like a second and six and he

(29:11):
throws it six yards beyond the guy's hands. Or you
see in the third quarter when you're you're kind of
in a little bit of a rud and rather than one, two, three,
let it go, he hitch hitch spins around, avoids a sack,
avoids a sack, rolls out to his left throws that's
forty yard dart, you know, across his body. He looks
like a good bass but it's incomplete like that, that's
kind of who he is, and if you can just

(29:32):
accept that.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
He's just not so one of the things, like that's
who Josh Allen was the first like two years. So
that's that's the only reason I'm not killing him. Right,
we've and again, there's not a lot of guys who
look spotty the first couple of years and then all
of a sudden boom, like I can't even think of
one off the top of my head, I know, can
you just someone who was like like Peyton Manning struggled.
I think he had like twenty eight picks or whatever

(29:58):
in your one. We knew Peyton Manning, it's gonna be fine, Okay.
Josh Allen, you know, struggled at like fifty eight percent completions.
I still remember a playoff game against the Texans.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Where he was a turnover machine. So so there's hope
for Caleb. Again, I don't totally know. I think we
are on the same page. We don't really know what
he is.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
He's got some stuff, but I'll say this, he's got
Ben Johnson, which is which is a humongous head start.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Yeah. My only pushback, that is a good point. My
only pushback with the Josh Allen comparison is Josh Allen
never had the kind of success playing that way the
way Caleb Williams has. Caleb Wais has played this way
his entire as far as we know on him college
and NFL career. He plays a backyard brand of football.
The problem with that is that he has been extremely

(30:46):
successful doing that. He's won a Heisman, he was a top,
you know, number one team in the country. I think
at one point with USC and Oklahoma, Like he was
really really good and had a lot of success, put
up a lot of stats and had a lot of wins.
He's winning games right now playing that style of football.
Josh Allen in Wyoming, their team wasn't very good. His
first rookie two years in the NFL wasn't very good,

(31:07):
and he eventually figured out like, hey, i can do
this from time to time, but if I'm able to
play within the system, then we're really gonna start winning.
And I just think it's going to be a more
difficult about face for a guy like kylab because he
has had so much success playing that way.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah, a couple other things that jumped out from the week.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
So if you guys looked at the trade deadline, teams
who were basically sellers, who were you know, mailing on
in them? This season, the Jets dumped to their best
defensive players. They win, the Dolphins dump Jalen Phillips, dump
the GM, they beat the Bills, and then New Orleans

(31:46):
Saints trade Rashid Saheed and they go and beat the Panthers.
I don't know what it means, but I do think
it's worth filing away for the future. Hey, the narrative,
by the way, everybody was betting the Browns because oh
the Jets quit, Everybody bet the Bills, and everybody bet
the Panthers and guess what, all three of them lost.

(32:08):
That goes to the whole market sentiment of Wow, everybody
thinks this team is good. That's who's gonna get the money.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
And guess what.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
The line is thus inflated a little bit. So if
you want, I only made one bet, and this is
probably too irrational. So I see Washington has given up
twenty one straight in four straight games. Are lost by
twenty one or more in four straight games, they're really bad.
And if you looked at the body language, and I

(32:38):
watched that game a little bit, guys were leaving injured
it was almost one guy threw a punch. I couldn't
tell if he wanted to get ejected just to get
out of it or not. But they were like a
dejected team. They went to the NFC Championship. They're over
and oh, by the way, they're old. They are going
to Madrid to play Miami, the Miami Dolphins. Ordinary I

(33:00):
would say, oh, Miami beats Buffalo. I can't back them.
That's a divisional opponent. Did you see the celebration video
Rob in the locker room, everybody was dancing. Yeah, now
there's a picture. It's probably fake, but there was a
picture of Mike. I'm sure this is fake, so I'm
not saying it's real. But there was a picture of
Mike McDaniel in some like souped up Dodge charger with

(33:21):
the window down, talking trash outside.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Of like a Buffalo Bill's bar. I mean, it's gonna
be fair.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
I hope it's real. I know it's not, but I
hope it's real.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
There's no way, there's no way it's real. But as
I'm like, no way could I back them?

Speaker 3 (33:33):
But then I look to week twelve, Rob though the
next week, who's gonna buy Broncos after the Chiefs game,
The Dolphins after Madrid are on a bye, the Chargers
are on a bye, and the Washington Commanders. So if
you're getting your ass kicked, season's definitely over.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
You got an old team and you're going to Madrid
and your Washington feeling low. I wonder did the girlfriend,
you know, plan, Hey, let's just stay in Europe. Let's
just pack for two weeks and make it a real thing.
Let's just have fun. I mean, you're in Washington, you
don't want to be in like the cold weather. Do
you go to I don't know, south of France.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
Do you go somewhere warm in Europe, wherever that might be,
and then just kind of make it a two weeks
of vacation and just washing them quid. So I bet
Miami minus two and a half. Now you could argue, hey,
why wouldn't the Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Just do the same thing. I don't know. They're riding
high maybe there. The vibes are not terrible there and
all of they just needed to get through the trade
deadline fire, the GM trade fell and say this is
our group.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
I don't know, but I bet Miami, perhaps a little
irrationally now, I will say the slate next week, Rob's
pretty fricking good. Tampa Bay at Buffalo, that's a pretty
good game.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
It's a huge game.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, because Tampa Bay is reeling a bit now. Carolina
can't catch them in Atlanta probably won't. Gosh, Atlanta's fools.
That's that's a good game. Then you've got Seahawks at Rams.
That is for first place not only in the NFS
in the NFC West, but also the NFC in general,
Rob in general, first place on the line, huge game,

(35:15):
two of you could argue two of the best three
or four teams in the league. Raven No, not Ravens
and Browns. One am I saying Chiefs at Broncos is
a really good game. I'm close to betting the Broncos
just because everybody and their mom's betting the Chiefs, and
I'm like, yeah, I think at this point you probably
gotta go the other way if the line gets high enough.
And then Lions Eagles. I mean, that's four really fricking

(35:39):
good games, and then your Raiders Cowboys on Monday Night football.
Just kidding, but overall. Oh, I did just look up
the draft order for twenty twenty six. They were on
a bye. But Tennessee's one New Orleans and the Giants
are tied it to Brown's. Jets are four or five, six,

(36:02):
tied at basically three.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
If Tennessee's and we have plenty of time for this,
sorry Rob. If Tennessee's drafting one, I don't think they're
bailing on cam Ward, not after one season. I don't
think you drafted another quarterback. But here's the problem, Rob,
new head coach coming in. I don't think cam Ward's
gonna get Josh Rosend. But remember they got Josh Rosen
not with the one pick top ten, and then Kyler

(36:27):
Murray because Cliff Kingsbury came in.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
So I don't I don't know.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
Kingsbury really wanted Murray. Is the new coach gonna want
Mendoza or someone else?

Speaker 2 (36:40):
I don't know. We'll see.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
I do.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
I do think the Giants like Jackson Dart and I don't.
I mean, do you think Jackson they would draft a
quarterback one or two?

Speaker 1 (36:51):
No?

Speaker 3 (36:52):
Okay, so that's good news for the Jets. I think
the Saints would, although Shuck look pretty good. I mean
it's only as like second, He's like thirty five years old.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
Come on, I like it.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Yeah, okay, good Browns. I thought Dylan Gabriel was good,
but he did not.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
They would definitely draft a quarterback, and I think your
Raiders would would draft a quarterback absolutely.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Hell Miami Mike.

Speaker 1 (37:10):

(37:30):
Here's your best bet, all right, real.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Quick, Monday Nights football, rob Shoot, I already forgot the game.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Oh it's a good one. It's Packers Eagles. I'll let
you go first. Well, I look at my account to
see if I actually have a bet on this game.

Speaker 4 (37:49):
I'll tell you what. This is a game that I've
had circled on my whatever, my bingo card for a
minute because I am of the belief that the Philadelphia Eagles,
despite their record, are not a really good football team.
I don't know if I have them in the top
five in the NFC. And I know that sounds blasphemous
to say, because you say, hey, all they do is
win games. Jalen Hurts, you know, uh Sakuon Barkley, those

(38:11):
receivers on the outside. Look at all the talent everywhere.
Look at that defensive line. That defensive line is nasty.
And I would say, yes, I would agree with you,
But have you watched them play football like they they're
They're much better than the Denver Broncos. But they're one
of those teams where I think their record fools you.
Into're thinking that they're better than what they are. And

(38:32):
the Green Bay Packers you could kind of make the
same argument. The difference is that I trust their quarterback
and their head coach combination much more than I trust
Jalen Hurds and Nick Sirianni. So therefore, looking at the
board right now, I see it's move one and a
half one depending on where you shot at. I like
the Packers not only to you know, obviously the one point,
but I think they I think comfortably. I think this

(38:54):
they win this one by by a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
I got Packers spicy, Okay, I I am with you
as well. I have the Packers looks like minus and
that's even with.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
No Tucker Craft. And I think Matthew Golden is likely
to be out.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Matthew Golden's out.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
Oh yeah, he's questionable right now where they're saying that
he's trending towards being out.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Yeah, I do need a for for fantasy purposes. I
just had too many guys on a buy Rashie Rice Mahome.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
So I'm down.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Yeah, it's probably insurmountable. I'm down twelve. I have Christian
Watson and he has Romeo Dobbs, so probably a loss.
But listen, I think that giant that Eagles defense can
be beat over the top, So I think Watson's gonna
be live for a big, big player two. But Dobbs
would have to do like nothing.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
So I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
I'm on Packers.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
It looks like I got minus two and then I'm
in that Pickham contest and this week I'm in first place,
which is really nice. And I got a ride with
the Packers, so it's not I don't.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Hate the Eagle. I just like the Packer.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
I think last week was a colossal letdown, as everybody
knows against Carolina.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
I think the Packers are really good. I know the
Eagles off, but they didn't pun in that game.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
We talked about it like they just gonna they just
found unique ways and not scoring the red zone.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
I'll look more into what Sirianni's done off the bye.
I like Jalen Hurt. The problem is I like this
Eagles team.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
Rob.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
We should start doing this every week.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
But if I asked you who's in the conference championship
games in the Super Bowl, who do you have based
on has it anything changed for you?

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (40:32):
Kind of? Because my preseason pick is now this pick
I'm coming back to as we get to, you know,
middle of November. I still like Baltimore coming out of
the AFC. Oh wow, like this this defense suddenly rounded
back into form the last month or so. When Lamar Jackson,
I know, we had an okay game on Sunday against
the Vikings. But if there's anybody who can reel off
six straight wins or whatever it's get to ten eleven

(40:53):
wins on the season, it's it's Baltimore, Ravens and Lamar Jackson.
So them and the Lions are the two teams that
I like right now.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
Okay, So but it looks like so Baltimore, they're not
going to catch the Colts, Broncos or Patriots. So those
three are going to be the top three in some order,
So the Ravens would be four hosting five as of now, five.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Would either be Chargers, Bills, or Chiefs. That's a hella.
That's gonna be a tough ass road. That being said,
I don't think anybody's scared of Denver. I don't think
anybody's scared of Colts. I didn't listen. We've gone long here.
I didn't get a chance to get into it.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
I am of the belief that the Indianapolis Colts have
kind of sort of been figured out now that we've
got what seven to ten weeks of film on Shane
Steiken's offense. They got body bag last week against the Steelers,
six turnovers, and the Steelers kind of were on top
of everything. And if Jonathan Taylor doesn't have the greatest
game this season for running back, right, I mean, do

(41:49):
you have him in fantasy?

Speaker 4 (41:50):
By the way, No, but I was going against him
in fantasy.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
Yeah, Oh my gosh, the eighty three are touchdown. I
don't know what the Falcons were doing. He just got
hidden in the mix and then pops out.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
It's like, what the hell? So if he doesn't go off,
I think this the things are like dire for the Colts, Like,
oh my gosh, we looked awful against the freaking Falcons.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
But the problem is the Colts aren't very good. And
then in the NFC you said you had Lions.

Speaker 4 (42:19):
It's hard not to pick the Rams are the Stea
Hawks to me?

Speaker 3 (42:21):
But I just yeah, quick thing on the Rams. And again,
we can't get to every team, guys, but I saw
this amazing stat. I didn't even get to this really.
So remember that London game where everybody myself included picked
against the Rams and on the Jags because the Rams
were leaving late and the Jags out there early and
it was just a tough, tough stretch. We're like, what

(42:41):
are the Rams doing? McVeigh went there and unlocked a
totally new look. He went three tight ends. He like
had never done that his entire career, really, and they
mauled the Jaguars. And then guess what, he did the
same thing after that game, and he's now done it
in four straight games. And nobody can stop the Rams

(43:02):
when they go with three tight ends.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (43:05):
They've scored thirty five, thirty four and forty two with
the three tight end. Looks so against those Niners, and
the Niners could do nothing. Now, I know they're beat up,
and maybe maybe I'm over exaggerating, but they had six
touchdown drives. Four of the touchdown drives culminated in plays
with their three tight ends on the field, and there

(43:26):
was one celebration I saw. I forget which guy, pretty
big white tight ends. Okay, one of them caught it
and they were all three in the end zone celebrating.
I'm like, that's all ah. Those are big guys, and
you know what, the three tight ends you can either
run pretty easily because you've got big beef, or those
guys are nimble and could go out and catch passes.
So I'm not saying they have three George Kittles out there,

(43:46):
but it essentially three big guys who can block, catch
and run after the catch. And it's like teams just
don't know how to stop that. Right now, they are
a machine and I think Seattle's going to be really tested.
And it's interesting they've been doing this since McVeigh stayed
on the East Coast after that Baltimore game. Remember they

(44:07):
only had seventeen points in that game. He instituted it.
I guess they stayed there on the East coast. The
whole week put it in and it's been a rolling
ever since. Now Seattle's defense is awesome. I can't wait
for that matchup.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
That's that's the game of the week, probably right, absolutely,
all right, we gone long, We're back.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
We've got a Major League Baseball cheating scandal. Do you
think it'll get the attention that the NBA one did, Rob,
Absolutely not.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
The pitchers are texting the gamblers like, I'm sorry that
that The NBA's not even that bad.

Speaker 4 (44:40):
When I saw that, he was calling him from the
clubhouse during angels like, oh shit, it's over. Yeah, it's
a wrap.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
All right, We're back tomorrow.
