Speaker 6 (02:34):
Don't you just love baseball in January? Because that's what
it looks like right now. This open A's Colorado Rocky
game right. Welcome to Denver, My gosh, if you don't know,
it's uh there, yeah, and it's snowing and flurries all
over the fit the Diamond.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
And have you been to Denver? Yes, Welcome to Denver.

Speaker 6 (02:55):
Welcome to if you just happened you would think, oh
I didn't know they played baseball.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Oh I think they hit the bat. Oh my gosh,
that's close. But yeah, it almost took the ball to
the face. That was crazy.

Speaker 6 (03:08):
But yeah, other than that, man, looking forward, it's a
lot of a lot of a lot of topics, a
lot of good stuff out there. As we know, we got,
you know, baseball, as we mentioned in up and Rolling,
we have Women's Final four starting today, we got the
men's coming up tomorrow, some NBA action, some some trouble
in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
So it's a lot to get to today. Look forward
to it, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Let's welcome to the Odd Couple crew, because you wouldn't
be able to do this farm radio pogam without him.
Alex is our engineer as always, bo is our producer
and for Rob G. Steve de Seger's at the anchor desk.
He'll keep us updated throughout the program. And of course Elijah,

(03:49):
it's all social media thanking.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Like maybe Alex was sleeping.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Can't do it, okay, Elijah, who does a great job
for us on Oh yeah, social media. So a lot
to do and let's start with we talked about this yesterday.
John Moran, NBA got it right, they just said, hey,
we rather not. Can you just knock it off? Just no,

(04:15):
you know, we're giving you just a warning. And what
does your guy Jall do? And this is what I
was talking about about being off.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
The map, like he does it again he does it
and explain.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
So John Morant, you got to go back a couple
of days ago to Rob's point.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
You and I talked about it, as did most people.
You know.

Speaker 6 (04:36):
He did the got into it with the Warriors a
couple of nights back, and he and Buddy Hill did
they Buddy Hill does a whole gun thing to him.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Joe does it to them.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
He's going to the sideline, looks like he's got a
gun or like, you know, a little I hate to
sound like all the kids are doing it, but all
the kids are doing it, and they're just like a
little an NBA universe, right, No, I'm talking about even
in the NBA. So John does it back. You and
I talk about it's not the smartest thing, knowing your history.
But we'll see what the league does. Boom yesterday we
come in, we talked about it. The league got it right.
They say, hey, man, as you mentioned, don't do that.

(05:08):
Looking it can be quote perceived in a negative light,
and that was that we thought, are good man, job,
you know what they understood. He wasn't trying to be
demonstrative with it like that.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
They got over.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
We both actually, yeah, let me heady to give you
credit for getting it right. What does he do last night?

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Rob?

Speaker 6 (05:24):
He went ahead and did it again, oh and then
again and then allegedly thrice. But the allegedly is because
it didn't air on the broadcast. But if you're in
the arena, people saw it. So the league goes ahead
and they fined him seventy five thousand dollars for it.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
And rightfully, so we talked about it before.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
You can do anything you want when you're not wearing
a team's uniform and they're paying you millions of dollars.
There's standards, there's rules, there's a CBA, there's a Malls clause,
do you know what I mean? Like it goes with it.
You notice being in a television or radio certain things
you can't do. It doesn't even on even on your

(06:06):
social page and even on your off time, your own
thoughts or whatever. You represent a company, an organization, and
I just I don't I think John's are lost, cause
I'm starting to believe that why would you do that
considering all he's been through and they didn't do anything
they want, you know, gave him a warning and it

(06:27):
was there a course that I don't care.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Did you see that bo he said that?

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, I just I just saw like a flash.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
I didn't see stories. Yeah I didn't. I didn't see that.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
But I'm just saying, like, like, if I'm the NBA,
I throw my hands up and just say, do we
really want to promote this guy? Put him out front,
want this guy to to be one of the faces
of the league, or just somebody that gets it.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
He I don't think he gets it.

Speaker 6 (06:58):
It is a complex with him because again, you go
back to the stuff that's happened two years ago and
then we go to this season, and I think what
we're dealing with here is is Jah not understanding the
difference between self inflicted trouble versus out to get you trouble,

(07:19):
meaning like people are just out against them.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
How somebody gives you a warning inside, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
So self inflicted is you put yourself in this situation
multiple times, having real live guns in clubs, drunk intoxicated,
flashing the gun online, get in trouble for that, but okay, fine,
we kind of move on. Got the gun on your
Instagram live. These are real, live issues that you put
yourself in. Those are self inflicted trouble issues right there,

(07:46):
self inflicted inflicted problems. And what it seems like because
after the on the other day, when we go okay,
you know the delegue.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Got it right.

Speaker 6 (07:55):
Ja Morant actually put up a story on his Instagram
and he said, quote, some people will only love you
if you fit in their box.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Don't be afraid to disappoint.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
And again I get the feeling John Morant feels like
the league is out to get him. People are out
to get him, you know, media is out to get him,
when in fact, I don't think that's the case at all.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
I think the media would love.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
For you to be one of those guys because you
were personable, You dance, you smiled, your electric style of play.
I think the NBA wanted you to be one of
the faces because you got a great smile, you're electric,
your electric style of play, your fun and I think
they looked at you as yes, we got a new
crop of young guys. We can promote. I don't think
the league was out to get you. I don't think
the media is out to get you. I don't think

(08:42):
people are trying to portray you as a villain. Now
that people probably go too far questioning your character. Yes,
that people probably go too far trying to, you know,
break down and have thesis on who you are and
trying to be gangst Maybe so, And I can see
how that would be of offensive. But the league gave
you another chance, a little slap on the wrist, and
you did it not once, but twice, and allegedly thrice

(09:03):
in a game the very next day.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
You just did it in their face.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
It's just it's just not smart. And I know he
was doing it to his own sideline. It doesn't matter
that told him not to do it. It doesn't matter
who he's doing it to. They already warned you, did
they gave.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
You a warning, don't do this, and he turned and
he did it, and he did it anyway.

Speaker 6 (09:22):
And the amount of times matter to me, because we
are creatures a habit, rob.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
No, no, no, Once somebody brings it to your attention, but
I hear he's an adult.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Come on, man, here's the only reason why I say
way too.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
I said that though right right now, we're watching baseball,
right literally, those guys are guys routine, you know, this
maybe more than any other sport. So if a guy
comes up, you know, hits his shoes with his bat
and then he does like a on some little motion
that they say, hey, can't do He's done it hundreds
of thousands of times.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
That's what that's his thing.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
So I'm even saying maybe John hits it and looks
at his teammates and does because he thinks, oh, I'm
not doing it.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
I'm not doing it to the opposing team. I think
you being lenient. So hear me, but he just hear me.

Speaker 7 (10:02):
Hear me.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
Where I'm going with this, No, because they didn't say
to anybody, don't do it, is what they said.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
Right, But I'm saying, if he's only thinking they mean,
don't mean in a taunting, demonstrative way, like I'm just
doing it to my teammates. Yeah, our little celebration, then
you could say, all right, maybe the first time because
he you know, he thought, just do me. There's no
way someone on the team doesn't go hey man, assistant coach, Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, chid,
you just got in trouble.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Let's chill. No way, coach, no way.

Speaker 6 (10:27):
Somebody doesn't tell him, hey man, even to us in
a fun cool which your teammates way don't do that either.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
And so if I'm if I'm Memphis ownership and management,
I got I gotta question myself. Do I really want
to go forward with Jamra? You have I'm dead serious.
He's having a great year when he's been healthy. But
but I'm dead But it's a it's a real conversation,
like maybe like he's just not for Memphis or this organization,
or he needs a clean start up somewhere else.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
What would you do if you were in the front
office on owner?

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Is it to move Jama Ran or is it time
to just say we just got to move the guy
and get the best we can or do something else
because something's not connecting here, Like he went through the suspension,
came back you know when he plays he's fine, Yeah,
and then to have this winn and then to come
back and do the same exact thing when they tell

(11:21):
you not to do it, it's disheartening. I don't know
what he's been suspended, He's gone through all this stuff
and the more you do it, the more you soil
your name and reputation.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
It's it's who wants who wants.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Uh you to sponsor anything or be there supposed to
keep getting it, and it's easier things to eliminate.

Speaker 6 (11:39):
Right, They're not asking him, Hey, don't you know no
dog the cutch of dreads. It's like, oh, hold on,
like that's a person they're saying, just don't do the gun.
Now here's where it is interesting. If I'm gonna play
Devil's advocate. The NBA now is gonna have to do
something that because he's a star. Multiple guys have done
this around the league all season, all last season.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
It's the cool thing to do.

Speaker 6 (12:02):
But because they don't have star names like him, we
don't necessarily see it and it doesn't get put out there,
and they don't have the track record as him. Now,
the NBA, what they're gonna have to do rob It
is gonna suck, But they're gonna have to almost remember
how because of allan iverson and all the perceived hip
hop style of dressing and had gone too far with

(12:22):
the jewelry and the jerseys and the oversized clothes and
all do rags at the press conferences. I think they're
gonna have to come back and make a stark, hard
stance on this, because then it starts to become if
you're the NBA PA, uh, if you're you know, maybe
just even an agent for job or somebody else, you say, well,
he did it, he did it, he did it. No,

(12:42):
what's four minute video of this guy, this guy, this guy,
this guy, this guy is.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
And the NBA does look at your track record, your
history with guns, and the whole nine yards. And they
already gave him a warning. I mean, they didn't do anything.
I mean like if they would have did something, uh,
find him and not buddy, Hell, then you got an argument,
you got a case. But they told both of them
just don't do it. But what I'm saying from doing it,

(13:08):
and he still did it, buddy, heal didn't go out
and do it.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
I don't know, but I'm just saying.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
My point is, if you're in the NBA, I would
throw my hands up and say, Okay, we can't get
through to this kid.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
So I agree with that, I'm saying, So he's fine.
I'm okay, I'm fine.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
If I I and he with the fine, right, I'm
fine with that, I'm saying, what do you do?

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Now, let's say he's they've already told you they don't
want you to do it. So now what they'll do.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Is they'll find every time they have video of somebody
doing it, and they catch them, they are going to fine.

Speaker 6 (13:38):
And that's what I've addressed severely enough, meaning Buddy Hill
and Job were warned, but we didn't make a public thing.
And I'm thinking they're gonna have to do that because.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Even last night, I'm sure they sent an email uh
to to the teams because because they gave a warning
to two players, then they would send one league wide.
This is the NBA, they don't want you to do this.
Blah blah blah blah. I don't doubt that for one second.
If you're gonna make a stink and warn people that

(14:11):
you wouldn't want all the play.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
And that's what they're gonna have to do, is my point,
because it's such commonplace. It's just he has this track
record and the greatest example again is a Draymond Green harfile.
Draymond's gonna get suspended way over you know, Austin because
he has a history and the track record, and.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
That me track record is always in play even when
you're a good guy. If you're a good guy, your
track record record in favor exactly. So it's it works
both ways. It does if you're a good guy.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Benefit like that. Oh yeah, we don't. This guy does
never do anything dirty.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
We're gonna assume that it was a mistake and it
wasn't dirty because he's never done anything dirty.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Draymond kicking people, stepping on what's new? This is what
he does.

Speaker 6 (14:51):
What he have video evidence for years and exact years exactly.
I just think it's disappointing man. John had an opportunity
to put it behind him because they were like, you
know what he's been doing.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
Well, one little thing, we're gonna forgive you.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
Don't do the game, move on to do it three
times in their face the very next day, Rob, not
a month later, a week later, next start of next season,
a week later.

Speaker 4 (15:10):

Calvin?

Speaker 3 (18:26):
Thanks for taking my call?

Speaker 9 (18:27):
Yes, sir, Yeah, Memphiss is.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
In a tough spot here because you gotta think too
the one person you think that could get to Joe.

Speaker 9 (18:36):
But maybe his dad.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
But we see him act in a full right on
the sidelines, right. But then I think you gotta stick
with him because you gotta think how you're gonna get
free agents to come to Memphis in the first place.
So they're in a very tough spot moving forward here.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
No, I get that, but at some point you gotta
cut bait because he's not like the moy He does this.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
The harder it is to sell him, do you get me?
It's just hard, Rob. I mean, he's averaged thirty over
his last nine games. Like, where are you gonna get
replace a top ten talent? I'm not you know, maybe
he's anywhere between eight and thirteen forty God a talent.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Ask Luca's got traded? Will Okay, I know, but I'm
just trying to say that it can be done.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
If they could trade Luca, they could trade John Moran.
Let's talk. He could get traded.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
But man, that's I need to return on the dollar
is I'm not trying to get sixty cents on that.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Dollar in Phoenix. You're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up? Cute?

Speaker 9 (19:36):
Hey, what's happening to fellers?

Speaker 4 (19:37):
What's up? What's up?

lady Ryan when he's I watched his boot She's like,
what you gonna do? He's like, we flex? Watch me
flex on a Friday.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
No, but I disagree with the previous caller about his father.
Father is not acting a fool. Father is having some
fun with his son. But I do wish that he
would talk to his son say hey, man, enough is enough.

Speaker 9 (20:16):
If I was the meshis Usual, the owner, I wouldn't
trade him because I really do believe that he's gonna.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Grow out of this.

Speaker 10 (20:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
I don't know how he was suspended, lost money he
did they you know, keeps doing the same thing. Q.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
We lost him the thing he did it the night before.
And that's the one problem. Let's say you and I
talked about two days ago. Let's say we didn't O
don't know man, he's gonna grond it. Look, man, Rob,
when you were twenty two to twenty three, you're acting fool.
I was acting for you know how ye? Okay, the
very next night is where it's like que even Q
come on cue that next night.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Na, that's when you're doing it deliberately. The next night
it is crazy.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Andre. In Massachusetts, you're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up right?

Speaker 10 (21:00):
Hey? Thanks taking the call, Happy Friday, great great topics.

Speaker 9 (21:05):
Listen.

Speaker 10 (21:05):
I'm gonna go with what Bill Parcell said. Okay, NFL
championship winning you are what's your record sends you are.
That's who you are, whether win on the on the court,
field or in life. You know what we see consistently,
that's who you are. And what we know as well
is money only makes you more of who you've been
all along.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
No doubt, Andre, no doubt. And we talk about all
the time from the Sacramento Kings. Who am I talking about?

Speaker 4 (21:31):
Kings?

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Who didn't get the big two hundred and six million
dollars the air Fox No, the big guy, Oh DeMarcus
Cuss DeMarcus. You remember they were like, dude, we can't
control things. Now wait, till we give them two hundred
and six million dollars and what happened. They decided against
it and the talent was so dre You're right, and
that's what happens when you give people a lot of

(21:53):
money who can't follow rules or just can't comprehend what
you're trying to do.

Speaker 6 (21:58):
Shows more who you really are. That's what people say.
We'll get one more. What do you want to do?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Yeah, we squeeze one more in Alex in Indiana. You're
in the couple of Fox Sportuato. What's up, Alex?

Speaker 9 (22:09):
Hey, how you doing?

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Fellas doing well?

Speaker 9 (22:12):
Listener, second time caller.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Appreciate you, sir, know that.

Speaker 9 (22:16):
Okay, I want to say Kelvins, you're doing a good job.
I love Christmas. You're also doing a good job. But
I have to say on this you're being a little
leadient because Jos.

Speaker 11 (22:25):
Know what it is.

Speaker 9 (22:26):
And when the league says don't do it, don't do it,
the league should suspend him for the rest of the
year and management should move on. And also, job, you're
not a gangster. Stop playing right.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
You're a billionaire. You're a millionaire basketball. This one ain't
a gangster. Move the guns the real life guns. I'll
give you that.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
This is just being done, like being dumb, ignoring what
the league has asked you not to do. I agree
with that. I don't think this one is a gangster.
I think is more of a'm gonna do like. That's
like he said in his own posts on Instagram and stories,
you don't have to you know, don't fit in the
box and all that.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
I think he's doing. Way. I just don't.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
When you when they talk about fitting in a box
way too much, come home, they like ask you not
to do something, just like corporate America. Whatever it's not.
This is you don't have to do this.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
You don't. You don't, all right.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
So if you work at the post office, they say
you have to wear a uniform.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
I don't wear when I ain't fitting in your box.

Speaker 11 (23:16):
No you can't.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Well, you ain't want to deliver mail to these mailboxes.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Exactly without the uniform one that is the part of
the job.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
You don't want to wear a uniform. You can't be
a mailman. Steven, read this real quick before you go
to you.

Speaker 6 (23:28):
He said, some people will only love you if you
if you fit into their box. Don't be afraid to disappoint.
He point posted that the night of the first one,
a couple you know, two nights ago.

Speaker 12 (23:37):
What So he's fulfilling it because clearly he's not afraid
to disappoint. Why this is all very dissapiing to.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
Go, Steve Sager? What's turning? Brother? Hey, we do.

Speaker 12 (23:46):
Have another Aaron Judge home run today.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
That's six and eight games. How many games is?

Speaker 1 (23:50):
It?

Speaker 7 (23:51):
Is?

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Six?

Speaker 12 (23:51):
And there are teams that don't have six this early season.
And this is game one thousand of his career. So
a longtime baseball writer, Bob Nightingale points out Baber truth
in his first thousand games, three hundred and twenty one homers.
Aaron Judge three hundred twenty one homer. Oh wow. The
other day as a Yankee one thousand, the first thousand.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
That bet that's incredible when you think of like where
Babe Booth is. And I'm gonna say this, Steve, I'm
gonna get the video at FS one. I made a
video about five or six years ago, five years ago
when and I put him in my top five sluggers
of all time, and people just went off, Oh my god,
supermature that video. He was a prophecty even what he said,

(24:32):
cause you didn't know that video feels a lot better today.

Speaker 12 (24:35):
Slugging is incredible. I will add Babe Bruce career batting
average was three forty two, so that he wasn't like
Pete Alonzo hitting two forty two at a bunch of
home runs. But also Judge Nightingale points out got his
home run total in one hundred fewer plate appearances than
Babe ruth Io games as a Yankee.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
No, he's incredible.

Speaker 6 (24:56):
And me and Robert talking about a few days back,
at the end of the day, it's probably just gonna
be chalked right. Just put Judge and MVP's game here,
you go, here, you go, guys.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Just keep them against now, just keep them. But it's
incredible what he's done.

Speaker 12 (25:09):
It is and third out has just been recorded by
the Yankees. It's a final at Pittsburgh. Yankees win nine
to for Judge. Now with the six home runs and
seventeen RBIs already in fact, how many players in Major
league history they are team's first seven games of a
season have at least six homers and seventeen I don't think.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
I don't think that's just crazy that's a ridiculous are
ridiculous numbers.

Speaker 12 (25:34):
Meanwhile, at Philadelphia, the Phills are wearing blue against the
Dodger blue. Apparently every Friday home game last year they
wore the City Connect uniforms, and it's supposed to be blue.
The city flag has blue, and so the Phillies are
wearing Okay, they're not the Phillies to me, but sure,
go ahead.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
It was like the Boston Red Sox were yellow City Connect.
The Red Sox that yellow us the Boston Marathon on Kelleries. Okay, okay,
you're called the Red Sox. Let's get our money.

Speaker 12 (26:04):
You look like cla But okay, it's end of three
at Philadelphia. Phil's lead the Dodgers one nothing on an
air in the first inning by pitcher Yoshinobu yamamoo. And
by the way, the Dodgers haven't an eight and o record,
but the Phillies are five and one, and earlier we
had a Cubs went over the Padres three to one,
Padres with their first loss this year.

Speaker 6 (26:23):
Back to you, all right, all right, Steve, thank you
so much, appreciate you for coming you live from the
Tireck dot Com studios. As always, it is Rob Parker
Kevin Wahington. We are the hot couple on a funcky
flashback Friday. Join Now by Jared Lee Smith Fox Sports
Radios Countdown on Saturday. Make sure you check it out
nine am to noon Eastern Standard Time.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Jared, what's up, mat? What's happening?

Speaker 11 (26:44):
Hey, it's good to talk to you guys.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Absolutely so help me here.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
The money gambled on women's basketball? Where does it compare
to men's do women? Do people really follow women enough
to bet money on women's basketball?

Speaker 4 (27:02):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (27:03):
I think the Caitlin Clark sensational ride last year kind
of opened the floodgates for women's basketball to be part
of the betting society. I mean, let's be honest, job,
if you bet on any sport, you're going to be
more inclined to watch it and be engaged. And they're
offering more lines on an now like you can bet props,

(27:23):
and I think that really changed the game. The prop
culture has really changed gambling because it's just natural, it's
very you know, aligned with fantasy culture, like, oh, I
really like Page Becker's I'm going to bet on her
to go over her points paid exactly. You don't have
to bet on Yukon and you can still get a
piece of the game.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
What was that money like when when Juju was rolling
obviously before the injury and even post injuries. Yeah, I
was gonna say post injury, did it how Matt, you know,
did it change things?

Speaker 7 (27:48):
It definitely lowered the I would say opportunities for you know,
in a really exciting tournament. I think if if USC
especially you he Ley now being in the final four,
if you would have had an LA connection there and
they still had a chance to get to the final four,
you kind of had to put everything they had uh
to get past them in that game. And I think

(28:11):
that would have been really exciting. If it would have
been Juju in the final four against UCLA, that would
have brought you know, you don't have a lot of
West Coast teams that win college basketball championships. In fact,
on the men's side, it's a thing how how long
it's been since the team particular, it really is.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Now Jared, Yeah, it is pretty amazing. All right, let's
go to the men's side. I mean, I'm just figuring
Duke is one of those teams. I know a lot
of people hate Duke, but They're a blue blood and
I'm sure the money has to pile up more because
people know the school.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
And uh, they got Cooper flag, which helps.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
Is that the fact most of the money's bet on Duke.

Speaker 11 (28:47):
Yeah, the Duke is he? In fact, we got the results.

Speaker 7 (28:50):
You know, we usually get updates every day, you know,
once or twice a week, you know, when when there's.

Speaker 11 (28:54):
Like a big, big event happening.

Speaker 7 (28:56):
We got some bed MGM splits today and I'll just
read it to you for dam Duke is the most
bet team to cover in the Final four.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
That's what.

Speaker 7 (29:03):
And yeah, and I think based on what we've seen, right,
Like if this game was played earlier in the year, Rob,
I don't think Duke's a five point favorite over Houston.

Speaker 11 (29:11):
Like remember last year this was flipped.

Speaker 7 (29:14):
Houston was the one he Houston was the was the
chalky team and they you know, they got banged up
in the sweet sixteen. Jamal Sheed went down and Duke
won the game and it was a big Uh. You know,
I would say reversal because Houston has been the dominant
team over the last few years. But this is I'll
be honest, I think it's a tough matchup for Duke.
I think Cooper flag. I mean, you got Tuggler and
Roberts in the middle, like, this is gonna be a
tough I don't think Duke's seen a defense quite like

(29:36):
Houston all year. Kelvin Samson extra time to prepare. I
do think Duke's a little bit overvalued in this spot.
Now the public's all, you know, hot and bothered over
the Dukies. It feels a little tricky of a spot
just to blindly bet dude.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
I picked Houston to win the championship. I really like it. Yeah,
that was my original.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
I mean the defense and also too, you mentioned Kelvin Sampson,
Jared Lee Smith Fox Sports Radio Countdown on Saturday nine am,
The Nude Eastern Stentard Time our guests here.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
I couple.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
By the way, Jared Smith bets on Twitter aka X.
You know, going back to what you're just saying that
Kevin simpsaid the last decade has the most wins in
the tournament. You know, you don't necessarily think of him
that way, Jared, because he doesn't have the you know,
the big championships to kind of to boat.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
But yeah, he's been great tournament wise.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
Let me ask you, Rob, and I said, here we
talked about the last couple weeks Cinderella and her glass
Slipper being shy when it comes to bets. What are
the people are they? Are they trying to win more
on betting on an underdog? Do people really believe in
the cinderellas? Or how's it come when people want to
put money on the underdog throughout the tournament?

Speaker 11 (30:39):
Well, it's funny because the narrative completely flips from the NFL.

Speaker 10 (30:42):
Right.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
In the NFL, the favorites typically win, and the public
loves to bet the favorites, and when the favorites do win,
the sports books do bad. Usually Well here in March madness, right,
I think the public kind of buys into the Cinderella
and they bet a lot more underdogs.

Speaker 11 (30:59):
So when we get a year.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
Like this where literally no underdogs, right, I mean it
was it was. It was a record breaking year for
the favorites to chalk as we like to say.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
Yeah, what was the one team that did? There was one?
It was nonque Yeah.

Speaker 7 (31:13):
McNeice Thompson was the only underdog of more than six
points to win.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
Out right, and Colorado's did they bank? Did they lose
it to a bank shot or something.

Speaker 7 (31:22):
Yeah, Colorado, right, Maryland ended up getting.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Exactly was that like our only buzzer beater?

Speaker 11 (31:28):
Yeah, that was the It was really, it really was
adult tournament.

Speaker 7 (31:31):
I think overall, it's like college sports has changed so
much in the last three years, it's naive of us
to think the tournament's not going to change in some
capacity based off of that. Were obviously very nostalgic, especially
people like I'm thirty nine years old, Like I've been
watching the tournament since I was twelve. Like I have
these memories of you know, Davidson was Steph Curry, you know,
over operas.

Speaker 11 (31:52):
I think those days are kind of over.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
Yeahed only I do is tell you I watched Magic
and when I was tournament and I wanted and you know,
that was like the biggest weighted We only had three
channels back then.

Speaker 12 (32:08):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Yeah, And I remember how big that was, you know
what I mean?

Speaker 6 (32:13):
That was the thing for multiple reasons to culturally, uh,
just actual gameplay.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
The two best players players one ones.

Speaker 11 (32:23):
You're never gonna see the best player play for Indiana
State anymore. It's just not gonna happen.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
The only reason why I will maybe pump the brakes
on that is because because I look at it and
I don't think Shade or Sanders was the best recruit
or but Travis Hunter was and.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
He goes to Jackson No no, no, no no, but because
Dion was there. But that that's what I'm saying. So
if you.

Speaker 7 (32:44):
Get a different there's fewer players, and there's not as
many transcendent players in basketball, a Cooper Flag, we might
not see like it was the last one. I would
say it would be Zion maybe, Like you know, we
haven't seen someone like him very in a long time
to be able to do all of the things well
like this and kind of take the world by storm.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
It's it's in in the next hour, no hour number three,
We're going to talk about a college top three best
college basketball players when we bring met up, because you know,
everybody's going crazy.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
About Super Flag.

Speaker 11 (33:12):
But where would you put him?

Speaker 1 (33:12):
I'm gonna say, I'm going to say that, I'm just
gonna give you one of my guys, okay, h And
I don't think you can leave Christian lay North from this,
I really, I mean, and they're a great college players.

Speaker 11 (33:25):
One about Mellow where would you put Mellow on the list?

Speaker 4 (33:27):
That run that he had was trendous.

Speaker 11 (33:29):
I think I think it kind of resembles what Duke
is doing right now.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
I mean it was unbelievable. Only Yeah, and we've said
this before. Jim Beahon should be on his hands and knees.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
Thank you, Mello.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Otherwise, Jared fifty two years without a championship.

Speaker 11 (33:43):
Yeah, that's a final four?

Speaker 4 (33:44):
Is that?

Speaker 11 (33:45):
Two three zone stuff?

Speaker 4 (33:46):
I know, but I'm just saying one fifty two years.

Speaker 6 (33:49):
You didn't know he had a grandson named Melo, you know,
I mean his grandchildren Mellow, different versions of it, low, Mellow, Carmelow.

Speaker 4 (33:58):
Thank you man.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
It's we gotta do have some fun with that in
a little bit. You want to give us yours real quick?
You have like a little top three year Mount Rushmore commune.
I think at least got to be in there really already. Really,
I I think I do think, you know.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
Based off of his ability to do everything, you do
not see a lot of guys.

Speaker 11 (34:18):
I do give him that ability to do everything. Him
and Zach Edie.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
Yeah, I think here's a problem. Here's the problem. Yeah,
we'll talk about more. We'll talk about m all right man, Jared,
thank you so much. Appreciate you. Hey, good luck this weekend.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Appreciate all right Jared Lee Smith. Give him a follow.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
Jared Smith bets and again makes you check out fsr's
countdown on Saturday nine am to noon.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
Appreciate him joining the show.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
We got shekl City coming up, and then a really
good game Lakers Warriors. Is it time to press the
panic button for the Purple and gold? We'll talk about it.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Don't forget.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Coming up in twenty eight minutes Mario Chalmers, the former
Kansas point guard of course, two thousand and eight NCAA
champ and two time NBA chann we'll talk to them
about both college and.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Pro.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
We'll do that coming up in less than thirty minutes.
But we are the final four weekend. We know that
team's vying. It looks like South Carolina is going to
go right, they're up by seventeen what by seventeen two
minutes ago?

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Yeah, two and a half minutes to go.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
But we want to talk about we know Cooper Flag
and what he's done at Duke and they have a
chance to win a national championship and all that, and
we just would think it to ourselves, like if you
had to pick three guys, the three greatest college basketball players,

(36:39):
who would you pick?

Speaker 4 (36:40):
And that's hard.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
We didn't want to do four. We didn't want to
do my rushmore. Yes, I want to fight you, I know,
because four would be easier, I think because it's still hard,
because it would be easier because you have to leave
somebody really good out. I can tell you right now,
I'm leaving out Pistol p Marrivich and he averaged.

Speaker 6 (37:00):
Forty forty four forty five and I'm leaving them out.
That's just crazy.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
But that told you, like how hard it is that
I'm even going to leave out Pistol, Pete and Steve,
we want you in on this conversation as well.

Speaker 12 (37:13):
He wins forty four points a game without a three point.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
I know, Steeve, that's why I made it three instead
of four and no shot clubs bucket, one of the
great bucket, one of the greatest. But he didn't win anything.

Speaker 12 (37:27):
Well they were three and twenty before here, right, so
I know.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
That's what I'm saying. So so he did it was unbelievable.
So Pete is on Steve's list. Okay, no, no, no.

Speaker 12 (37:35):
So Steve, if you want to go first, Kareem, it's
not even close for no. So we just thing like
you could make an argument that the Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Luel Cinder then is the greatest player in the history
of the sport.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
Absolutely. I don't have an argument with it here. Look,
Power Memorial in New York and high.

Speaker 12 (37:53):
School might be the greatest high school player ever ever
and greatest college greatest college for many years, was the
all time leading NBAS.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Kareem has done it all on all levels.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
I totally agree with you, with you when you talk
about the NBA is different, but I agree basketball period
all right, So uh well, lou Al Sender has to
be on that list.

Speaker 12 (38:16):
He had three years at U c l A and
two losses total.

Speaker 6 (38:19):
Yeah, and couldn't play freshman. Didn't play back then, so
who knows what would have done if he did.

Speaker 12 (38:24):
When he was on the freshman team, he beat defending
champion U C l A in the exhibition to open poly.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
Pavilion, so I'm giving him a matter of fac I'm
gonna count that as as a championship.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
So that's another championship.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
But the NHL is not counting that season either, freshman
season thrown out.

Speaker 6 (38:42):
So we all agree. Lou Al Sender Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
Of course, later that's number one, that's the gold standard.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
Number two. I'm gonna go and you're thinking, I know
what you're going. I know where you're going, but you like,
do I want to mix? I go here? All right,
Christian Latner number two all time? Yeah, And I'm.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
Talking about winning, making huge shots and huge moments like
if you were to put it together a tape of
making those moments and aggressive and the teams that he.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
Beat did did we talk about that earlier?

Speaker 6 (39:15):
So this is one of the things people, because we
always go one time, one time, and we're only talking college.
He gave Shack the business, the Fab five the business,
and then the second time he played U n LV
them the business.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (39:35):
All the teams that you were like, well, that guy's better,
that guy's that he was like, oh word, line them up.

Speaker 12 (39:40):
Which is why I would say David Thompson n C
State's got to be somewhere in the conversation at least
because he ended the U C L A run and
had a phenomenal career of himself.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
That's fair and could jump out. I'm not all So
would you say David Thompson number two?

Speaker 12 (39:54):
Or and then Walden three?

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Okay, so Walton Well, Kareem and David Thompson. Yeah, so
I have to go we all agree.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
And that's what.

Speaker 12 (40:03):
No, Bill Russell in this conversation.

Speaker 6 (40:04):
No, yeah, the only reasons A great point I was,
I'm watching the new documentary in the Celtics.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
I forget Celtic City City something like that.

Speaker 6 (40:13):
Yeah, so I'm watching that, and I just I'm so,
I don't even want to act like I know what
he was doing San Francisco.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
I know he was dominated. They could have called it
Magic City. They did so much winning.

Speaker 12 (40:21):
Now I'm just sad they won the national title twice.
By the way, USS won the national title.

Speaker 4 (40:27):
Yes, so that's what he's one of those.

Speaker 6 (40:31):
I know I wouldn't watch Kareem, but I'm fully aware
what Kareem did, whereas I don't even want to present
as if I'm fully aware of what Bill Russell was doing,
you know what I mean. So for me, he's out.
But if he's in one thousand percent, get it, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 12 (40:45):
Yeah, twenty point rebounds again for a career that college.

Speaker 4 (40:50):
That's insane. That's why that bad play by Oltan. He's
going to hurt the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Yeah, hey that was Yeah, you can you cannot the
run with Mookie up the time run and get thrown
on a second.

Speaker 12 (41:04):
Tommy Edmonds just did a two run in the ninth, so.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
That and Mookie had doubled when he when he finally
got the bad he let off the night that he
would have double. So that's why bad base running will
hurt you. But anyway, sender, okay, who's number two? Christian
Laightoner number two is Bill Walton?

Speaker 4 (41:22):
A number three? If I'm gonna knock it out on
the three for me, it's Christian Laterer.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
So you're with me on Christian later because he just
how else are we missing? I know there have been
a lot of great Carmelo Anthony had.

Speaker 12 (41:33):
Hayes. It was Kareem's years. Elvin Hayes would have commendine
what how he would have dominated without Kareem on the
planet at the time.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
There's a lot of people not people feel that way.
But Michael Jordan.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
If if Michael Jordan didn't exist, you.

Speaker 6 (41:49):
Know, it was a good one. It was a really
good I almost put him on this. We don't often
think of him this way, but Larry Johnson was a
bad mother love shut your mouth. I mean you NLV
for a two year run there where they lose one game.

Speaker 12 (42:02):
Oh, he was a man among boys.

Speaker 6 (42:04):
Yeah, and so Larry Johnson, if you put him on
that list, I'm not mad. The hard one is you
get to Carmelos and Kevin Durantz because like it was
just a year of just our kids really really good
and then that football exactly You're like, oh, shoot, that
was phenomenal and he's like, well, I don't know where
to place that. That one phenomenal, incredible year.

Speaker 12 (42:24):
Larry Bird had Indiana State undefeated.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
And in the National champions That is ridiculous too.

Speaker 6 (42:32):
Magic Johnson only only played two years. Yeah, and get it,
got a ring. Jordan two years? Jordan, Yeah he was, Yeah,
but he was You could argue Jordan wasn't even the
best on his team because he was a freshman.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
James, There's no doubt about Jordan.

Speaker 12 (42:45):
Hit the game, Winn.

Speaker 4 (42:47):
There's so many like all right, Bill Bradley, Bill Bradley.

Speaker 12 (42:52):
Austin Carr over fifty years ago for Notre Dame when
they were a great team. Year after year, I bost
thirty five points a game.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
That's Isaiah Thomas that we took him out that in
Indiana He had a heck of a run too.

Speaker 12 (43:02):
That wasn't that the early eighties.

Speaker 4 (43:05):
Yeah, eighty one. I think that's when he wanted Isaiah yeause.

Speaker 12 (43:09):
The one where Reagan got shot during the day and
they didn't know if they were going to play the
National Championship at night.

Speaker 4 (43:14):
Yep, good call anybody else, anybody else.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
The one was when the NFL played after JFK got killed.

Speaker 4 (43:22):
God assassinated that because P Bosell that's kind of crazy.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
P Broseel said was the biggest mistakes mistake he ever
made in his life. Like what was he thinking, Like, like,
there's no way it should have been a football.

Speaker 6 (43:34):
Game, because you know people that's when they always do
the like and I mean, it's serious. I'm trying to
say this respectfully, so but you'll get what I mean.
It's like when someone's father passes and then he says
he would have wanted me to play tonight, you know
what I mean?

Speaker 4 (43:46):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (43:46):
So I think he was saying he would have wanted
us to continue the games. I'm disagreeing with the move,
but I'm saying that's how he probably give credit.

Speaker 4 (43:56):
He said it was the worst thing he ever did,
that decision. So what about real quickly anything? Anymore? Are
we missing them?

Speaker 6 (44:01):
More recent is there. Can we put JJ Redick in there.
Tyler I just threw up.

Speaker 12 (44:07):
In my North Carolina people would put.

Speaker 4 (44:08):
Silent Tylersborough crazy tea or what it psycho t they
called him.

Speaker 12 (44:12):
Now you're going back. We haven't mentioned Wilt's name.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
Bill was up there, I mean Will Yeah, I don't know,
you know, for me.

Speaker 12 (44:19):
Chns Gilmore was in one of those finals against u C.
L are phenomenal. The reason that Patrick Ewing was not insane.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
The only reason that that, again Christian Ladner, is the
the amount of big shots again and against who you
know what I mean again seriously, that that's what elevates
him over I think a lot of.

Speaker 12 (44:43):
Greatest college game of all time that he's talking about here.

Speaker 4 (44:46):
He was perfect, wasn't he?

Speaker 12 (44:47):
Yes for ten from the floor, ten for ten from
the line, game winner at the buncher, right, I mean
that that that's the game against Kentucky utterly ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (44:55):
And Kentucky was about Jamal Masburs. What about don't have
to do? I thought I hit the game winner? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (45:00):
They uh, he just embodies and again maybe just the
age that I am, he's probably you know, maybe seven
eight years my senior, something like that, but I don't
know exactly. But just I was coming up and he
just drove me crazy. I'm from Antroburam, Michigan, Steve, so
this guy was annoying me, beating, you know, my Wolverines,
and just he was just and he never failed, you

(45:22):
know what I mean. And he embodied the hate and
the love you typically need to become big.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
Uh yeah, So he for me has to be in there.
Kareem is just Kareem that even it gets we want
to do this, we get everybody in eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 4 (45:38):
I'm trying to think I'm missing him.

Speaker 1 (45:39):
Body more Semi eight seven seven six sixty three sixty
nine bo jump in, you know what I mean.

Speaker 8 (45:46):
It's tough now just because of how short guys play.
But Anthony Davis, he was I was looking up a list.

Speaker 12 (45:54):
Year SEC team to win it all, right.

Speaker 8 (45:56):
Yeah, Rookie of the Year, defensive player of the year,
blocks leader. Yeah no, he was here year, a SEC
athlete of the year, everything, and then the one year he.

Speaker 4 (46:02):
Played and that's the problem, right, the.

Speaker 6 (46:06):
Play one year because you know, again, Zion had an
incredible you know, blowing off.

Speaker 12 (46:12):
Checking Ralph Sampson's day.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
He was playing multiple years. I said, dun the whole yeah,
four years. Randolph Childress was nice too, by the way, there.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, jump
in your top three college basketball players of all time?

Speaker 4 (46:28):
Top three, that's all we want. We named about thirty three,
and the Dodgers are going to win this game.

Speaker 1 (46:32):
He's about to name another one right now, all right,
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. It is the
Odd Couple on a Funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker kelvin Washington,
