Hall of Famer Rod Woodson, now working as a Fox
Analyst NFL analyst for Fox Sports one. He will join

in the third hour, writer for The Athletic and author
of the book How About Them Cowboys, which will be
(01:28):
in stores tomorrow, so you'll get to hear him tonight
on the Odd Couple. And I'm privileged to welcome in
my man, my partner, my dog, Rob Parker. How you doing, man,
How was your weekend? I'm doing just great. How about you, Chris?
The weekend was good. Did a little charge your pre
game yesterday and colaxed on Saturday on the radio. So
(01:51):
you went to the Chargers game. I didn't get to go,
but I did to appreciate it. Yeah, it was cool.
It was really cool. A lot of Raider friends in
the rest of want that we had it in. It
was good. Everything was Yeah, a good week. And hung
out with the wife and uh I had a great
time with her and of course watched football yesterday and
the Fight Saturday night. Connor McGregor and Cabebe newgram mom
(02:17):
off whatever, just don't say it. Last day, just leaving
at Cobeede. Yes, don't even do it. Don't do it.
But the boy can see the boy can fight. He pumbled.
But Gregor, oh yeah, I hear people are trying to
give McGregor that third round. Stop. They stood up. They
stood up as strikers and Cabebe knocked him down, so
(02:38):
he won the fight all the way around. So we'll
get to that a little later. But yes, let's welcome
in our our our our staff as you always do.
That's right, the Odd Couple crew as always, our producer,
Rob Ge, engineer Alex. Of course our anchor. Was that
a three run home run Many Machado looks like it
(03:04):
might be all over in Atlanta. Yeah, I was gonna say,
our anchor Deb Carson and our intern Sean we are
in full effect. They're all on the other side of
the glass. So Chris, let's kick some ass. We're ready
to go to that. That's your catchphrase. That's it, mane.
And and just to update everybody, h the Dodgers Many Machado.
(03:25):
Just to the three run home run. Dodgers lead six
to two now in the seventh inning. And earlier today
the Indians were swept uh by the Houston Astros and
it was ugly. I think the final was like eleven
to three. Was that eleven to three? And uh the Indians, Chris,
and we'll get into this later on. They've had a
(03:47):
horrific last three postseasons for that franchise. Yeah, it's been
bad for them. So we'll get into that and much more,
but we have a lot to do on this Monday,
so let's do it, and we'll keep you posted on
the football game to night with the red Skins and
the Saints. And also, he's of course about two hundred
(04:07):
yards away from becoming the all time leading passer in
terms of yardage in history. What an accomplishment. And then
as you as you were about to say, Game three
of West turn clearly gonna be the most competitive series
that we have right now in Major League Baseball, the
Red Sox and the Yankees from Yankee Stadium, and Aaron
(04:30):
Judge has just been a terror against these Red Sox.
What three homers and I think he's seven for twelve
three of his postseason games. Yes, he's got a home run.
And remember he was out for what was he forty
some odd games or something. He was out a big chunch,
like a quarter of a season. What they've looked like.
I mean, obviously they were great without him, but they
(04:52):
looked like almost a different team now that he's back. Absolutely,
So we'll get to that, but let's stick. Let's start
off stick in New York, where the New York Football
Giants lost again tough game thirty three, thirty one at Carolina.
But the big story, Rob, is everybody's talking about Odell
(05:13):
Beckham Junior's comments that he made to Josina Anderson, our
former colleague over ESPN in a sit down interview that
he and Little Wayne did. Let's hear a little bit
of that. I don't know, Like I said, I feel like,
is it amount of time and you can can you
still throw? Yeah? It's been pretty safe and it's been
you know, cool, catching shadow and trying to take it
(05:34):
to the house. But I'm you know, I want to
I want to go over the top of somebody. Haven't
been in the place where I feel like I could
really go out and do everything that I'm capable of doing.
I don't get twenty targets like some other receivers, shits everything,
and not to say that it's not gonna work, but
at the moment, I feel like I work entirely way
too hard. Yeah, Rob, The first comment he was talking
(05:55):
about was Eli Manning. The first part of that comment
that everybody heard. He was asked, is Eli the problem?
Is here a quarterback the problem? And he said, I
don't know. He said, obviously he's not gonna scramble. You know,
he's not gonna run, you know, but I don't know.
It's almost an indictment, you know what I mean. When
you watch it, it sounds like, yeah, it sounds like
(06:17):
because an indictment. There's no question because you would say no,
if it's not if it's not him, it's not When
you say I don't know, yeah, you at least considering it, right,
you're questioning him. But look, here's the thing. This is
what Ben McAdoo got fired because he saw this. He
saw that Eli Manning was done. Benched him. The New
(06:41):
York fans sentimental because Eli's delivered too super Bowl, as
you have said, will be a Hall of Famer because
of those two. And he was magnificently clutched yes in both.
So give him his props, give him right and time moves.
Everybody's not gonna play too. They're forty one, like Tom Brady.
(07:02):
Most quarterbacks are breaking down at Eli's age or a
year or two after. And he, you know, he's still okay.
But you and I have both said, and this is
not revisionist history, this is not you know, jumping on
the bandwagon. We both were saying before the draft. Do
not take say KWin Barkley, nothing against him, but take
(07:24):
a quarterback. It's a quarterback rich draft. Get one of
these young guys and you should be said or could
be set for your future. But that's what Odell saying.
A couple other things. The second part of that interview,
he was basically saying that, you know, the Giants are
not putting him in position that he said he used
(07:45):
the term being out schemed, and he said they're not
putting him in position to be the best that he
can be. So he really you know, initially people jumped
on his quotes about the team not playing with energy
and not you know, playing with heart. But I thought
the most telling quotes from him were one, I don't
(08:07):
know if he lies the problem. He very well might be,
and two, they're not putting me in position to be
effective as effective as I can be. And three Josina
asked him, are you happy in New York? And he
said that's a tough question. Really, I like the sunshine
in LA. That's what he said. And Rob, let me
(08:31):
just throw this out there. After their game a loss, remember, Odell,
Odell seemed like he was in a good mood. Cheery mood,
and he said, if it took me saying all that
to get us to play with some energy and to
play the way we did today, then I'll do that
every day of the week. I'm fine with it. I'm paraphrasing,
(08:52):
but that's essentially what he said. And so where do
you stand. Was Odell out of bounds or is this
a good thing that he went at the team in
the organization. I'm okay with it, only from this standpoint.
I get the frustrations I do, because this is not
what the Giants signed up for, not what I'm sure
(09:14):
he thought. It was all good and be don't forget.
People made all kinds of excuses last year. Chris all
the injuries, oh Eli lost his obj and and other receivers,
and the offensive line wasn't good and they had bad coaching,
every excuse in the world why the Giants suffered through
a three and thirteen year and was able to get
(09:34):
the second overall pick in the draft. So this is
this is unexpected. People really thought that Giants had fixed
this problem, We're gonna be good. And granted it doesn't matter,
I know they were closed. It took up eighty five
yard field goal of beating dumb you know what I mean.
The guy kicked a sixty three yarder with time expire
and had just made it inside the upright, I get it,
(09:56):
So they could have won that game. But if you
just take a look at how this team feels and
and you see all the numbers they haven't scored, well,
that was the first time they scored over thirty points,
right in three years, since twenty fifteen, since twenty fifteen.
And this man's NFL Chris, where everybody's putting up numbers
and points and all kinds of other stuff. So that
(10:16):
tells you one thing. Number two. ELI doesn't have it.
Eli just doesn't. He doesn't. He well, he was better, No,
he was in this game, but I'm talking about it
better the overall numbers though. He doesn't throw the ball long.
And let's just be honest. I mean, right now, Odell
Beckham Junior could be the quarterback because she could touchdown
(10:38):
he threw. That was a nice throw. That was a
really man I mean, heck, that was one of their
longest passes in the year. Right, I wonder I don't
maybe Rob g see if we can get this, but
that ball traveled how far are they travel in the
air maybe forty something yards, thirty something yards. I wonder
if they've had a completion in the air in the
(11:01):
air that's gone longer than that ball did. And I
get it. A lot of people are like, keep it
to yourself, don't rip the team in public, don't. We
ask guys to be honest and candid, and then when
they are, we got an issue. I just can't have
it when they get when they give us the politically
correct answers and don't say anything, we rip them too.
(11:22):
We rip them and say he's useless. He didn't say anything. Dude,
you can't have it both ways. This was great, Josina.
I mean, she did a great job pull it out
of him. I don't know if little Wayne was there
to pull it out of him too, or you know
what I mean, like to make it more comfortable. But
whatever the case, she got good quote out of him.
I'll say this, Rob I do. I'm not gonna kill Odell.
(11:46):
And course that ball was twenty four yards in the air.
It was only twenty four Yeah, okay, I bet you
was in their top five completions though, as far as
you know, binth in the air. But but longer than
anything elives thrown in in about a year. So you
were right, Beckhams was what thirty three The touchdown they
connected on yesterday was about thirty three yards or something
(12:07):
like that. But up to that point, yeah, ELI had
hardly connected on passes that far there. But but beyond that,
if here's what I say about Odell and his comments,
I think it's fine to do what he did. If
you have been beating this drum to the coaches, the
(12:27):
coaching staff ELI all season. If week after week you've
been like, look I can beat my man, Let's go long,
let's throw it deep, get me in some different schemes.
They know what we're doing, let's do let's change it up.
What you know. If you're saying all of that and
they're not listening, it's falling on deaf ears. Then eventually
(12:50):
your only recourse is to go public, right, because now
you want to put pressure. Look, they're not listening to me.
I said the same thing about Aaron Rodgers last week
when he talked about you know, Mike McCarthy and the
scheme and the plan and all that. If they're not
listening to you behind closed doors, then at some point,
if nothing else is working, then the only recourse you
(13:13):
have is to go public. And here's the thing, Rob,
they did change some things up they we saw, I
mean the double pass to Odell when he threw the
touchdown to say Quon Barkley, right, that was unique. Eli
did throw deeper in three of his first four games.
He averaged six yards an attempt. Yesterday averaged nine yards
(13:34):
an attempt. So I think that's what Odell meant when
he was saying, if this is what it takes to
get us to play better, blah blah blah, then I'm fine.
I'll take it now. I'm a I don't know that
Odell's been beating that drum. If he hasn't, if he's
never you know, if this is the first the Giants
have heard that Odell doesn't think we're putting him in
(13:56):
position to succeed, and you know he's got questions about Eli,
then I think you deal with it in the house
first before going public. That would be my only criticism
of what O'Dell did. I'll give him the benefit of
the doubt that, yes, indeed, he's talked about it. Why
would why would he just keep it to himself? He's
not that he's out there, you know, boisterous. So I'm
(14:18):
gonna give him that. He's had a conversation. Maybe it
didn't seep in. Maybe the frustration got to him a
little bit more. But that stuff happens, and it's not
the end of the world. You can live through it.
It's not like he said. It'd be totally different if
he went out public and said, Eli Manning is a
bomb and we'll never win anything with him quarterback and
they need to cut him. Okay, now now we got
(14:40):
Now we got an issue. Do you know what I'm saying?
Now there's an issue. So so yeah, And here's the
thing too, rod Well, We also don't know it's possible
because O'Dell is it seems like he's very popular on
that team. He is viewed as a leader, whether we
like to view him as a leader or not. He
clearly has some clout with that t and his teammates.
(15:01):
There may be teammates going to him, or they may
be talking about it amongst themselves, like yo, can we
throw the ball down field? Like what's going on? You
know what I mean? Like our stuff, like des Bryant
said about the Cowboys, our stuff is basic. We need
to do some different things. So maybe some of his
teammates have been saying this and he went public like
I'm gonna speak for the team. So there's a lot
(15:24):
behind the scenes that may have been taking place to
lead Obell Odell Beckham Junior to do what he did.
But hit us up as always eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox If you want to weigh in, we're
talking NFL, particularly the New York Giants were about to
get into the big game of the weekend. Patrick Mahomes
and the Kansas City Chiefs just throttled Robs Jacksonville Jaguars.
(15:47):
How many touchdowns did Mahomes? They scored thirty points? That's
all I know. It's The Couple of Fox Sports Radio
come Back. We'll be back next Thanks for listening to
the y'all a couple of podcasts. Be sure to check
us out live every weekday from seven pm to ten
pm Eastern four to seven Pacific on Fox Sports Radio.
(16:10):
Find your local station for The Odd Couple at Fox
Sports Radio dot com, or stream us live every day
on the iHeartRadio app by searching f s R. It
is the I Couple. I'm Chris Brusarry. That's my man,
Rob Parker. We're coming to you on a metal Monday.
We're brought to you by Discover Card. We treat you
(16:31):
like you would treat you and Rob. The game of
the weekend, or at least going in. The most anticipated
matchup was the Kansas City Chiefs, who are of course
are led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and are undefeated against
the Jacksonville Jaguars, who had arguably the best defense in
the NFL. And we saw that it wasn't much of
(16:54):
a contest. Kansas City routed then what was it? Thirty
to thirteen? I believe thirty fourteen? And I have one
question for you. Will the Jaguars be a top the
Parker Power rankings this week? Because the losses don't seem
to change your opinion of them. No, that that was
a bad performance. It would be hard for me to
keep them in that top spot. The thing that I
(17:16):
loved the most about them was is I told you
going into that game, they're only given up four uh
Touchdowy only given up four touchdowns period in the first
four games. Now this is this has changed. But but
the game up two? Yes, yeah, they gave up two right,
So still that's what that's six and what five games. Yeah,
(17:37):
that's no, no doubt about and that's why I liked
them so much defensively. And then Mahomes he had a
good game, over three hundred yards, had a rushing touchdown.
But Chris, you gotta admit, here's a guy who was
lightening it up. Fourteen touchdowns through its first three games,
and he couldn't throw. He didn't get throw a touchdown
against Jacksonville. That that's pretty He's thrown one in his
(18:01):
last two weeks. Right, all of a sudden has changed, Right,
It jives with what you and I were saying. Look,
nothing tells us he's not going to be a great quarterback. Right,
We like him, We both think of it. We both
think that he's good, very good. Yeah, well we just
stepped up, right, Yeah. I mean what has to stop
are the all time comparison, Yes, that's what has to time.
(18:23):
I mean, the discussions about Willie be a top ten
quarterback of all time and stuff like that needs to stop.
It needs to stop, just stop it until we have
enough sample size, especially given the history of what we've
seen Chris, and we've seen these other guys who have
come on the scene been unbelievable. We talked about Colin Kaepernick,
(18:44):
We talked about r G three two years ago. Derek
Carr was like Cart you know, wait a minute, Rob
was just had his finger up. Are you're saying these
number one? What was that? I'm just try He didn't
want to hear about Dirk car now right, and and look,
(19:04):
I'm gonna say this. And he has played fine, He's
played well. But Carson Wentz now, granted is coming off
an injury, but still that's a factor. He hasn't been
what he was last year. No. Now, I know it's
just three games, but you know what I'm just saying,
Dak Prescott, Dak Prescott is a perfect Yeah, you have
(19:25):
to relax in some ways, Rob, and I guess this
is the all time greats are the ones who are consistent,
who are consistently great. But in some ways, this is
almost reminiscent of baseball, you know, where where there are
guys that every year or every other year, it's it's
a new guy that's that's like Christian Yellich kind of
(19:47):
comes out of nowhere. You know, Bryce Harper goes from
MVP to hitting two forty or two fifty whatever day.
You know, like we're seeing some of that in the NFL.
Is guys having a great year and then you know,
a mediocre year or whatever. So let's just slow down.
That's all we're saying. Absolutely. Any other part is I
don't know Blake Bortles. Maybe I know a lot of
(20:10):
people say they can't trust him, but maybe he's worse
than than maybe I was thinking because just a couple
of weeks ago against the Patriots, he was unbelievable. What
do you throw three seventy seven three hundred seventy seven yards?
He had four touchdowns, he destroyed the Patriots defense, and
(20:30):
then yesterday he was got awful. He was terrible. If
my turnovers in the game, yeah, I don't know if
anybody's ever thrown for four hundred and thirty yards and
had a worse game than what we saw yesterday. And
some of those turnovers were just horrendous. Yes, I mean
one he threw off the helmet of one of his linemen,
(20:52):
a screen passed, he threw directly to a defensive lineman
for Kansas City. It was bad all the way around.
Here's the thing I think, Look, there are weeks where
Blake Bortles is gonna look great, as you just said,
against New England, and then there are weeks where he
is going to look like he doesn't even belong in
the league. He's gonna be throwing those knuckleballs, those ducks,
(21:15):
no spirals, and he's gonna look bad. And the question
is can a player like that lead a team to
a super Bowl championship. I mean, we've seen mediocre quarterbacks
win super Bowls, but those mediocre quarterbacks weren't as volatile
(21:37):
as Blake Bortles, you know, because the rise may not
have been as high as it, but their loads certainly
weren't as low. They were game managers, right most for
the most part, just don't make the big turnover was
really how it always played out, you know, That's what
That's what you want from guys like that. Just don't
throw the big pick or fumble the ball or whatever.
And because we've seen it, We've seen guys because of
(22:00):
Brad Johnson exactly because of their defenses were and that's
what the the Jacksonville has to really think about this.
Let's not blow this defense that we have and not
win something with it, you know what I mean, Like, no,
exactly and I think, look, I mean, granted they may
not have boarders next year, but I thought I was
beating the drum when it was clear that Jets were
(22:23):
going to trade Teddy Bridgewater that Jacksonville should have been
first in line. Yeah, to try to jump on that
and and grab them and say let's upgrade the quarterback.
That's that's what the Vikings thought they were doing, and
that's what they I think they did it. No, but
that's what that was. The thought behind it is we
have the defense, right and and case Keenum played well
for them, he got them in the NFC Championship game,
(22:44):
but they still felt we can upgrade that he's not
as good as maybe he played, you know what I
mean that like he probably can't sustain it, right and right? Yeah, look,
Philadelphia wasn't fooled by Nick Foles. No, the same thing. Perfect,
It was a great run. It was a magic Car'll
never do it again. He'll never do it again. And
(23:06):
that's that's what you have to do. That's the the
vision that you have to have as a front office
and as a coaching staff. And I'm telling you, it
looks like Jacksonville didn't have it because for the most part,
these runs don't last a long time in the NFL. No,
that's what I mean. You know your window. Yeah, you
get your window, and you better you better make good
(23:27):
on it. And you know, I think even next year.
Let's see how the rest of the season plays out.
But if if Jamis Winston becomes available, I mean he's not.
It doesn't like the world on fire. But I like
him better than Bordles car available, right, I mean again,
I like him better than Bordles. So they need they
(23:48):
The bottom line is they need to be in the
market for a quarterback. I think they made a mistake
by bringing bringing Bordles back as their guy, you know,
and they were they were fooled by what happened last season.
And they also got to get Leonard Fournette. Yeah that's
another big part. I mean, when he runs the ball
and they can control the clock a little bit, you know,
(24:09):
when you can't run the ball and run for first downs. Yeah,
I mean, he threw sixty one balls last night. That's
not him. He's not supposed to throw the ball that
off and sixty one passes is ridiculous, right, all right, Well,
can the Jacks win a Super Bowl with Blake Borders
at quarterback. That's what we're discussing. We'll bring in Hall
(24:30):
of Famer Rod Woodson for the answer next, but first
let's welcome in the one and only Deb Carson for
the latest in sports. How you doing, dad? Fantastic guys.
How are you to have a good weekend? Awesome weekend?
Lots of football? Watched a great, great sports weekend. Very nice. Yes,
and my Cowboys played better in the loss than they
(24:50):
have in any of their wins. Victory, Jeb, I got
a toothache with all that sugar you're passing on the
lost no victories. We are perennial eight hundred team. I'm
designed to know. Yes, I'm alife. I've been watching for
a few decades, so yeah, I was born on a Thursday.
Not this last one? All right? Manny Machado with four
(25:13):
rbi tonight, including a three run homer, Dodgers lead the
Brave six to two bottom of the seventh inning, and
of course, the Dodgers lead the series two games to one.
Brewers o eighth the winner of this series, and Dave
Roberts announced that the Dodgers will start Clayton Kershaw, whether
it's in game five if necessary Wednesday, or in Friday's
Game one of the NLCS, if they are so fortunate
(25:35):
as to proceed. In the American League, the Astros completed
a sweep of the Indians in their Division series, winning
game three eleven to three, George Springer two home runs,
Carlos Krea with a three run bomb. Houston completes the
three games to zip. Sweet sweep, and they will play
the winner of the Red Sox Yankees series. Game three
just about to get underway in the Bronx, we'd all
(25:55):
like to fix our golf game, thankfully. You can find
a fix for your check engine light at Auto Zone.
The free Auto Fixed finder tool will find a likely issue,
saving your money down the road. Get in the zone
Auto Zone, guys, all eyes on Drew Brees tonight. There
are two of milestones he could pass tonight as his
Saints host the Redskins in Monday Night Football action. He
(26:16):
currently is number three on the all time passing yards list,
ninety eight behind Brett far of two hundred behind Peyton Manning.
So if he throws for two hundred one or more,
he is the all time leader in passing yards. Also,
if he throws four more touchdowns. Tonight he will become
just the fourth quarterback to reach five hundred career touchdowns.
He has four ninety six. And of course we just
recently saw Tom Brady join this club. So fun stuff tonight.
(26:41):
All eyes on Nolins, yep, lot going on, lot going on,
and thank you. We know you'll keep us posted, so
we'll talk to you next hour. Absolutely, it is the
Eye Couple. Chris Brussar and Roy Parker would coming you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy
to say fifteen percent or more in your carrentsant with Geico,
go to Geico dot com or call eight hundred and
(27:03):
nine four seven auto. The only hard part figuring out
which way is easier. We bring in our next guests.
He is a Hall of Fame defensive back, one of
the greatest to ever do it in his position. Also
and FS one contributor Rod Woodson, Welcome to the odd Couple. Well,
I appreciate it. White. What's so odd about you guys? Well,
(27:26):
christ and I'm not That's that's what's about us. I'm
regular Robs. No, but Rod, we were speaking of strange.
We saw some of those passes Blake Broders to yesterday
against the Chiefs in that loss. Can look this team
(27:49):
is superb defensively everywhere else. Can they win the Super Bowl? Though?
With Blake Borders at quarterback? That's a great question. I mean,
that's the question I had the game of the years.
There's a lot of question mark for some of the
really good teams. Blake Borders for the Jacksville Jaguars is
a big question mark for me. I know, he had
a really good game in the postseason last year against
(28:11):
the Steelers defense. Oh yeah, blow him out, right, I
mean blow him out. You know, score there's a forty
five points whatever it was, and I think that's what
everybody thought they were gonna get. And there's a lot
of people saying this guy should get a lot of respect,
but you know, in the National Footballer, you have to
earn respect every week. And I'm just I just don't
(28:31):
know if he's that guy. I think he's He can't
have good games, but then every now and then you're
gonna see games like that with Blake Borders, especially with
the good teams that he faces and good defenses, he
has issues making plays down the field on a consistent basis.
When he's playing good defenses. Hey, rod in the Packers
Lions game, I mean, was that bing Crosby or Mason
(28:55):
Crosby kicking field goals? I mean, is that crazy? That
is crazy? I thought to myself seriously, and for people
don't know, he missed four field goals and an extra point.
He looked totally lost out there. And I'm just wondering,
if you're the package, you think that maybe he lost
it and you need to bring in some kickers to
to try out or get ready just in case. No.
(29:19):
I talked to a couple of guys that's been that
played in Green Bay with Mason, and they said that listen,
if he misses one, it messes up his head and
he kind of goes down that's that road, you know,
that where he's just he can't get his mind straight again. Um.
But and that's what happened. He got to think about it.
You know, Aaron Rodgers didn't play a great game. He
(29:39):
didn't play a good game at all. He had some
decent throws in the second half. And the bad thing
about this football team is that it's all about Aaron Rodgers.
If a rod does not play good football, they just
won't win because their defense isn't good enough. They don't
give him enough turnovers and give them short fields to
be able to score on a easy down in down
(30:01):
out bases. Um, so he has to be that guy
weekend and week out. They don't have a great running game.
And then if he just makes if he makes so
feel goals, it's a game. It's a tight game. O
big time they win. They they lost it. He mean
he missed thirteen points right, lost by eight? Yea or
was it talking eight eight? I think they lost by eight? Yeah, yeah,
(30:25):
they would have won. Yeah. So well, let me quickly
what is the relationship of the kicker to the rest
of the team, Like, because I always hear players say, man,
we don't even talk to the kicker until we see
him on Sunday or he's always away from the team,
you know, and he gives you the impression that, dudes,
if you have a game like this, that the team
(30:45):
will be like, man, get him out of here and
get somebody else in. I know Aaron Rodgers backed him up,
you know, but apparently they're good friends. Apparently mentioned cause
has been a great kicker for a long time. So
he has I mean, he just had one of those
games that every player in the Nashville League, if you
play a long time, you're going to have a bad
game and it's going to be one of those games
(31:06):
not going to go your way. Now, the evolution of
kickers since I've been in league. So when I came
in the league in nineteen eighty seven, kickers and punters
used to go out to practice and as soon as
they were done with special team stuff, they went into
the locker room. They're reading the paper, drinking coffee, all
that stuff, you know, And then it kind of evolved
where they had to stay out the whole practice even
(31:27):
though they weren't doing a whole bunch. You know, they
would sit on the sideline and do some punts or
some kicks and all that stuff, but they wouldn't. Then
they still don't do a lot and at the end
result they have to just you know, on what players
get upset about and disappointed about is that they have
one job, right and that job is to punt or kick.
And when you had that opportunity, which you might have
(31:49):
you know, say you know two or three at the
most as a kicker and as a punter, if you're
having a bad day, as an offense, you might punt
five or six times. They just want you to just
do your job. Let's do it. And that's the hardest
thing because when you when it doesn't go their way,
they're gonna get blamed on as the a as a
(32:10):
scapegoat because they didn't do their job that day. It's
the odd couple. On Fox Sports Radio guests Rod woods
in the Hall of Famer and our buddy and our
colleague at FS one a contributor. If you want to
get to him at Twitter, it's at Rod Woodson twenty
six And Rod, what do you make of the Odell
Beckham Junior comments about the ELI and the Giants? And
(32:33):
if you your teammate, would you be disappointed or do
you understand its frustration? I would be very disappointed just
for the fact that he works for the New York
Giants and you know, um, you know, and what I
don't understand is a guy who you know, a face
(32:53):
of the franchise. Uh. And the two questions I really
had issues with when they asked them a question about ELI,
you know what's wrong basically, you know, and he's like
he can't get out of the pocket. Well, we know
he never could run all right, So before he even
came into the league, Eli couldn't run. Eli wasn't getting
(33:14):
out of the pocket. So he knew. He's been knowing
this for a long time. And then they asked him
is he happy? And it was like, that's a tough question.
I'm like, you didn't. My problem with that is he
just got a long term deal, big money, and he
didn't say that before he took the long term deal,
that's right, So I got a problem with that. And
(33:36):
if you're you're supposed to be the leader, it's fourth
to three, you dropped the ball, yep. Then a series
of later you're back at the punt returner because you
don't get the ball enough. You need to make plays.
You're not you're not able to be the best that
you can be. Because you're on the New York Giants.
They've given you an opportunity to be a punt returner.
(33:57):
He goes back there, not paying attention, trying to block
the gunner coming down. The ball hits his foot and
they score after that. So I mean, you know, you
can say all that you want to about your other players,
and you can say how much how passionate you are,
and how great you need to be, and you're not
having that chance to be great because you see other
(34:19):
receivers catching or getting targeted twenty times, and you know
you could go off, but you know your your inner
you whatever that is at Hawk or whoever that person is,
that civil person inside of him, he's trying to maintain
that person. Just every time you have an opportunity to
make a play, you make a play. You be the
best player that you can be, and then be the
(34:41):
leader that way. But don't say something and then come
back out the next day. Yeah, he had a couple
of good catches he did. He's he's a tremendous talented player,
But you can't come out there and say that and
then on four to three drop a ball to hit
you right in both your hands. Ran. What do you
think of Mike thomas comment post game yesterday about the
(35:01):
penalties and he wasn't just talking about the Steelers, but
just league wide that these is getting out of hand,
and he called it a joke. It is, you know,
I just remember looking at um. I was watching the
Minnesota Vikings the Philadelphia Eagles game, and I think it
was going into the fourth quarter. They threw a ball too.
(35:23):
I think Art's in the end zone. I think today
how hit him in the back, just like barely hit
him though, And then today I went flying further back
than Earth's did and they said they called a personal foul,
you know, hitting the defense's the receiver. But he barely
touched him. And a matter of fact, the hit he
I think he took the bunt of the hit and
(35:46):
that threw another flat What I just don't understand how
do you play in a National football league as a
defender for the most part, because you can't hit a
quarterback high, you can't hit him low, you can't hit
a defenseles receiver. So the receiver has to catch the ball,
turn and look into an eye and then you get
hit him. What's too late then? And that's why I think,
(36:06):
that's why we all have to pause with all these
crazy numbers that are being you know, thrown out there
on the officive side from the quarterbacks and the receivers
and the scores, we have to pause and say, you
know what that is a that's the result of the
way the game's being called and the new rules that
are implemented in the National Football League. That doesn't make
(36:27):
these players great. Some of them do have great talent,
but over the course of time, that would tell you
if they're great or not. I just don't know if
all these guys who are making all these plays could
have done that twenty years ago. I agree with you.
I agree with that. But the other part in the
story that came out this weekend was that the NFL
settled with the family of Junior say Oo. And I'm
(36:48):
telling you that this is a lot more to do
with the NFL not being held responsible long term with
trying to make the league safer. And that's this is
the NFL you're going to have, because they're going to
do rod. Do you disagree to try to take the
culpability as much as they can't away from them. Yeah,
And I do understand that. You know, when when your
(37:11):
employees sue you know, the the company it works for, right, Um,
then they're gonna they're absolutely gonna, you know, do everything
that they have to do to take those responsibilities away
from themselves onto the players. And I get it. Um,
you know, the main reason that the lawsuit was even
(37:32):
put in their place, and that players even said they
need to do it because they had information and didn't
supply that information to the players, right, and that's the
main reason. That's the main reason the players are angry.
It's like you had this information, you didn't want to
give it to us. So in retrospect we have to
sue to get any damages for for that. Now that
(37:56):
we got my producers in my ear like buzzing me
for a commerce break, So thank you, right right, well,
thanks a lot, man. We'll see you up at the studios.
All right. I appreciate it, all right, Rob Woodson there.
They don't call it the Mistake by the Lake for nothing.
Trust me, I lived there. That's next. It's the Eye
Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Yes, sir Brownie, be sure
(38:18):
to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris
Brusar and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
It's the Eye Couple of Chris Brusar and Rob Parker.
And Rob, we know that Cleveland, Indians were closed out
today by the Houston Astros an embarrassing fashion. Go ahead,
(38:43):
I know you want to take a shot at one
of my cities. What, Chris, I'm not a Cleveland, Cleveland,
and stutter and I'm just saying it is embarrassing from
this standpoint. It's not just this year that they got swept.
Look at the last three postseasons, Christy. You remember twenty sixteen,
they were up three to one against the Cubs, lost
(39:06):
all three games, including Game seven at home. Remember that? Yeah?
Last year or extra inning? Right? Last year in in
the Alds they were up two to nothing against the Yankees.
You remember that Yankees came back won three in a row,
including Game five in Cleveland against their ace, Corey Kluber.
(39:26):
Remember that. Yeah, And this year they didn't even win
a game. They won a division again. They were the
first team to have four pitchers to have two hundred strikeouts.
I mean, they were set up with the pitching to
make something happen. And now, Chris, it's all over. It's
probably all done. In Cleveland. The run that they had
because they are postseason nightmare. Well, look, obviously they haven't
(39:51):
won a World Series since what nineteen fifty four, something
like yeah, forty eight, nineteen forty eight. I was even
giving them a little yeah, you will even be nice, right,
But here's what I say, And you're right. I mean
I remember back in the late nineties. Remember they had
a great John Toldy, Sandy Alamar, all these guys, I mean,
(40:13):
old Marvi SkELL great team. I covered their first foray
in the World Series in ninety five with that team.
They lost in six to Atlanta UM and then two
years later lost again, and you know, went to the
playoffs the next two years, and then they broke up
the team because, as you said, if you keep getting
(40:35):
there and failing, it can just deflate you to the
point where you're done. And I don't know if this
team has gotten to that point or not, hopefully not,
but I will say this, rob still in baseball. For
them to be in the last three postseasons, You're right,
it is ended terribly, but that's an accomplishment. And you know,
(40:58):
in baseball, nothing is it's once you get to the postseason. No,
you're right, But at so point, you gotta get to
the point where I mean even Okay, so you lost
the first two games on the road, but Chris, they
got blown out in the only game at home, That's
all I'm saying. And they got swept out of the playoffs.
So enough with Cleveland. You smell last Sea that's the Indians.
(41:21):
Stop it stop. Where were the Tigers were? Did the
Tigers losing the last three postseasons? I don't think so.
All right, enough said stop this in the Indians. They
got to the playoffs. I'm proud of them. Yeah, they
went out unceremoniously, but it happens. They got there. I
keep keep it locked. It's the Eye couple of Fox
(41:42):

Dallas Cowboys lost another game. They're now two and three
and their offense is pathetic. They've got arguably the best
running back in the league, and they've got a quarterback
(42:27):
who was tremendously ballyhood a few years ago, and they
can't score points. We've talked about it with the giants
in this league. Of video game numbers. Rod Woodson alluded
to it to it thirty minutes ago. Guys are putting
up numbers we've never seen, scoring more points, throwing for
(42:47):
more yardage. All this in today's NFL because of the
new rules, and the Dallas Cowboys cannot move the football.
In five games, they've scored twenty or more than twenty
points once and that was twenty six points. They've yet
to score thirty points this season. Yesterday they were beaten
(43:09):
by Houston nineteen to sixteen, and they rob They cut
Dez Bryant, they jettisoned him, they treated him badly, basically
kicked them out of the facility. And now Jerry Jones
it's saying they could use a number one receiver here.
(43:30):
Here's what he said after the game yesterday. Well, I
would love to have number one receivers. You have to
get those when the opportunities are there. Deand Hopkins is tremendous.
He made the plays out there tonight that made a
lot of difference, and I think we all got a
good look at what a guy like the Hopkins can do.
(43:50):
For those that didn't see it, DeAndre Hopkins basically made
the play of the game, the winning play as far
as I'm concerned. When he had this, I can't remember
how long the reception was for something yards and he
did two spin moves after catching the pass to get
more yardage. And that's what the number one receiver can do.
And I'm not saying Daz is a number one anymore,
(44:11):
but I am saying he's better than Cole Beasley and
Tavon Austin and the rest of the guys lining up
at receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. You know what's funny,
And I'm with you about I'm not saying he's a
number one and all that, but it's funny. It sounds
the same thing that John Gruden said after they got
(44:33):
rid of Khalil Mack and said, we got get a
pass rusher in here. You know how hard is gonna pass?
And now here's a Dallas Cowboys who just felt like
this is what they wanted to do and went and retired.
Don't forget the tight end, right, So then they left
the cupboard bear and now he's saying, hey, you know
we need we love. I love to have some number
(44:55):
number one receivers. What No, you're the one. It doesn't
make make any sense, what are you doing? Right? And
and it hurts you beyond what's going on right now
with the two and three record, because let's face it,
in that division, they aren't out of it. No, just
to hold that. I mean, the red Skins two and one,
(45:17):
when the night there'll be three and one with you know,
that'd be impressive if they beat the Saints. But uh,
nobody's running away. If Philadelphia has come back to earth,
for sure, absolutely if they you know what happens with them.
But um, and then obviously the Giants are having their struggles.
They were already one four and they're not out of it.
That's how bad the division is, right, they're not out
(45:39):
of it. But Rob, I didn't know that I'd say this,
you know, a few weeks ago, but I'm saying it now.
Bring back Dask. Look at you, Bring back Dask. I mean,
look you and you said we talked about it last
week when he said he tweeted that I'd like to
be in Dallas and you said, you gotta have more
(46:00):
pride and all that, and I get it, I get it,
But this is a situation where they both need each other.
Nobody else wants him, and the Cowboys have no one
to throw the ball to, and I'm not. You don't
have to bring him back at the twelve million that
you cut him. You know that was what he's supposed
to get. You don't have to give him that. You
(46:21):
can bring him back for a few million dollars. If
he acts up, you can probably get rid of him
again if you need to. But I think he may
be humbled enough where he'll come in and at the
very least, I mean, he's got some brains in his head.
At the very least, he's got to be thinking, let
me play well so I can continue my NFL career.
(46:45):
If it's elsewhere next season, so be it. But if
I don't play well this year, I may be done forever.
It's a perfect match. Eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three six nine.
Do you agree with Chris des belongs back with the Cowboys.
Both sides should kiss him, makeup and bring him back. Uh.
(47:09):
He knows the offense, he knows the teams right, And
don't you think like he doesn't. Because I get what
you're saying, like have more pride. They talked about you
like like a dog. But again, this is not you
don't have to go back begging because they need you too.
I mean, both sides have been a bit humbled, I
would say, And don't get me wrong, I'm not I
(47:31):
wouldn't expect des Brian to go in there and light
the world on fire. You know, I'm just saying he's
better than as I said before, Cole Beasley and Tavan
Austin and Atlan Hearns and the rest of these guys
that we thought might do something for the Cowboys this year.
I just don't see it happening. You know, they would
(47:52):
rather struggle and be without than to bring him back
and admit that they made a mistake. You know how
these teams are, and the and Jerry Jones and people.
They don't want to believe or have you believe that
they made a mistake, and that would have to they
would have to acknowledge that they made a mistake. Yes,
you know what I mean. But it would be if
(48:12):
you bring him back for a little little money. You
know it's you're admitting it, but it's not like you're
doing a complete about face. You know you are saving
money and you're still you know, you're getting him for
less money. And and here's the other thing, rob they
they are it's tougher for them to evaluate Dak Prescott
(48:35):
when he doesn't have a legitimate and again not the
Dez is a number one, but even anything close, you
know what I mean, Like, when you got these bad
receivers that are struggling, it's harder for you to evaluate
what Dez Briant is. No, give him somebody to throw
the ball to at least or at the very least
(48:56):
you can see what he's made of. No, I get it.
And and that's another part. Obviously they've watched him the
last two years. Last year, even with Dez, it wasn't
a pretty picture, uh for Dak No. But but it's
even worse this year, and they got to decide something
on what they need to do. I can't believe they
can't find anybody else out there to help that offense,
(49:19):
because what they're doing now, they got they got a
hard a long way to go, and offensively, I just
don't think they have enough firepower to be able to win.
I don't. I don't know, they don't. And and and
guess who's coming up next? Your favorite team? The New
York No Jacksonville Jacksonville was that don't give up touchdowns
at all? Right, they lose that game. Jacksonville is obviously
(49:44):
coming off a bad performance against Kansas City. Dallas is
going to lose that game. They're gonna be two and four.
Then they got the Radskins and we'll see how good
the Radskins are tonight. Um, but you know it's not
getting any easier for them. And uh, you know what
you think about the Jason Garrett's decision? What was it?
(50:04):
Fourth and one and over time? I don't understand at
the forty two at Houston's forty two and they punt it,
I don't get that. What did they wind up giving up?
By the time you kick the ball into the end zone,
you wind up giving up. They started at the ten.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Houston's drive started at
the ten. Rob g you got that, But I think
it started at the ten yard line. And so I
(50:28):
mean if the defense would have held. But you know
what a lot of time when you when you punt
it from there, goes into the end zone, right, and
then it's only the net yards, only like fifteen yards.
It's the only difference. But if I know they have
been shutting him down. Ezegel Elliot only have fifty something
yards on twenty something carries, so they were shutting him down.
(50:49):
But he's still one of the best backs in the league.
And I've got to have confidence that I can get
that yard in that or with Dak Prescott, maybe a
sneak or whatever it might be. But you got one
of the best offensive lines in the league. And granted
they were they were getting you know, they were getting
pushed around a little bit yesterday, but still I think
(51:11):
you go for it. Uh, that's an interesting situation coming
off last week. Remember when Frank Reich with Indiana Indiana
or Indianapolis, he went for it for fourth and what
was in fourth and three yea from his own forty So,
but he was on he was he was on his
side of the field, right. But I'm just saying it's
(51:33):
the difference between he was playing for the win and
Jason Garrett was playing for the tie, and he was
too cautious. And even Jerry Jones, who we know loves
Jason Garrett because he can tell him what to do,
even he said, you gotta take risk at that moment.
All right, we go, Chris, Let's we got a couple
(51:53):
of people want to chime in, So let's go to
Dylan and Florida. You're on the odd couple on Fox
Sports Radio. What's happening? What's up, guys. I'm listening how
for a while. I think Dads needs to come back
to the Cowboys. I've been the Cowboys saying for ten years.
I grew up in South Silly. We need another one
wide receiver. We can't let the Eagles come back and
(52:13):
get again, get us again. So if you were if
you were Dad, you'd have no problem with coming back
despite that they cut you right because they didn't want
to pay you, and then the teammates talk bad about him. Yeah,
but he has nowhere unless to go. Like you said,
he's been humbled. He needs to come back and show
his words, and you know, maybe he'll get another deal
(52:34):
with the Cowboys. Maybe he'll find be able to fign
somewhere else. But he's not doing nothing sitting on the couch,
and we're not doing nothing with these thumbs that we've got. Now. Yeah,
I agree. Look, I mean both of these or I
think the organization and Dad's have been humbled and put
your pride aside, and you know, try to get something done.
Look like we said, this division is far from over.
(52:56):
As bad as you've been, you can make the playoffs
in this division, and so stop wasting time and try
to get things done. The Cowboys made a couple of
really bad mistakes in the Dad's thing, and Dan Bailey
didn't they but they cut their theyre reliable kicker and
Dan Bailey, I mean, and I just don't understand what
(53:16):
they were doing the past off season and it cost them.
And then yet they keep Jason Garrett at all costs. Well,
because he's the guy. And we're gonna talk with Gary
Myers who's writing that though, who wrote that book about
how about them Cowboys? Right, that's the title little book,
And we'll talk to him coming up later on in
the show. That's right, That's right, Well, will Uh, I'll
(53:39):
tell you what I would like. Dad's is working out,
and it's time for them to get him in here
and see what they can do. The Cowboys and Dad's Bryant.
I'm with you, Rob, I don't think it'll happen. I
think Jerry Jones is too stubborn. Um, but that I
think it should. I think it should. Speaking of stubborn
(54:02):
and angry and prideful. Did you happen to watch the
UFC fight Connor McGregor and Cabebe I'm not even trying
the last name cabeb on Saturday night. Oh of course,
great fight, great fight, Cabib dominated him. But unfortunately, all
(54:27):
anybody's talking about is what happened after the fight, and
the question is was it really bad for the UFC.

off the last segments talking about the Connor McGregor Cabbe fight.
(55:58):
I thought it was an excellent I thought Cabeb looked tremendous,
just flat out dominated McGregor and unbelievably in my opinion,
McGregor won the third round on all three judges scorecards.
That's when Kabeb decided to stand up and strike with him,
(56:21):
and I actually thought Kabeb did a good job. McGregor
hit him a few times early, but Kabeb knocked McGregor
down and with a punch, and I thought, I thought
he won all three rounds until he submitted. McGregor made
him tap out in the fourth round he won on
their feet, and then of course he dominated him on
(56:43):
the ground and won the second round ten eight because
he got McGregor on the ground and was just pounding
him for a good thirty forty seconds or whatever before
the bell, say McGregor, But but the belly who was
more about afterwards? Right? And afterwards Cabeb he jumped over
the fence, went after McGregor's jiu jitsu trainer, and then
(57:07):
McGregor actually started climbing the fence to get out of
the octagon when he saw that, and one of Cabeeb's
guys was there on the fence and McGregor punched him,
and then somebody else from Cabeb's team jumped in and
hit McGregor. Sucker punched him from the back. I mean
it was a melee. It was out of control, and
(57:28):
Cabeb was wrong for going off jumping over the fence.
I will say this. He was upset and he said
it because we all saw the footage of Connor McGregor
throwing the dolly at the bus that Cabeb was on
and injured several people. McGregor talked about Cabeb's family, his father,
(57:53):
He talked about his country Russia. He talked about his
leg and muslim He criticized seemed islimes, his religion. He
criticized all of that, and Cobebe this was personal for him.
Throughout the fight, he was talking trash to McGregor as
he beat him up. After he submitted him, he starting
kept talking trash to him, and then you know, he
(58:15):
went after one of McGregor's guys. So I'm not excusing it.
It was wrong and it can't happen. You can't let
that stuff happen. But McGregor is not innocent. Let's not
make him the innocent you know, party in this whole thing.
But here's the real question. It hit us up at
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
(58:36):
nine nine six six three six nine. Do you think
it was bad for UFC? Because I gotta be honest, Rob,
I don't. As ugly as it was, as much as
nobody wants to see that, I don't think it was
bad because if they have a rematch, and McGregor is
saying he wants an immediate rematch, and he'll get pummeled
again in my opinion, but he wants an immediate rematch,
(59:00):
this will be by far the biggest growth them fight
in UFC history. Yeah. I mean that sounds good, but
it was a bad look when stuff gets into the
crowd and other innocent people who aren't part of it
are involved. Chris, it's a bad look. The UFC's lucky.
Nobody got seriously hurt very much. Okay, you know what
(59:22):
I mean. So so I get you, and I understand
about the fighting stuff and loan you keep it in
the ring. Once you get into the crowd with the
other people and any other stuff going on, you could
have an issue. And that's where it comes in. I mean,
if you didn't see the fight and you just saw
the melee, you go, what the heck is this? Oh
(59:43):
my god, this is awful. You know, the guys in
the crowd and there's a fight breaking out, do you
know what I mean? And yeah, that's the part that
the UFC has to be careful. You don't really want
all that, all the other stuff leading up. I get it,
the pre fight stuff, you know, and all the people
kind of expect that. And because we should say that,
the Dodgers did beat the Bray six to two, and
(01:00:06):
they do move on to the NLCS for the fourth time.
And so there's only one series remaining, right Yankees Red
Sox yep, and the Red Sox just went up one.
Oh yes, the Red Sox are up one. Oh, but
I'm the second second yep, So we wanted to at
least get that, uh to let you know that. But
but I think that's the part that you have to
(01:00:26):
watch out if you're the UFC, because I hear what
you're saying. Yes for them, it does work, and it
seems like it's going to uh and and the Saints
just went up six nothing so so much has just happening,
so you're trying to keep you updated. Yeah, it's gonna
it's gonna work. I get where you're saying, nobody wants
to see that, because what you don't want are innocent
(01:00:46):
bystanders being hurt. And you're talking about world class fighters.
You could hit somebody you don't even plan on hitting,
you know what I mean, and really injure somebody. So
I get what you're saying, um and, But Dana White
has to decide, and he's saying all the right things,
but I wonder inside what he's really thinking, like is
(01:01:11):
he does he see dollar signs? Because you know it
was a just as ugly and even more damaging in
terms of humans being injured, was when a Connor McGregor
threw that Dolly at Kebebe's bus and did injure a
couple of UFC fighters. Absolutely, and how dangerous to throw
(01:01:34):
that into a glass bush, that kind of stuff. He's
lucky they allowed him to plead down and leave, But
New York authorities could have easily detained him, could have
been in jail for that because he put a lot
of people at risk. Chris, let's go. Here's the thing,
you know, here's the thing. Dana White used that video
(01:01:54):
to market the fight. That's why I'm saying like this
is not going to I mean, as bad as it was,
the UFC is gonna make money off of this situation.
If Cabeb wants to fight, there's rumblings that he might
want to retire. What else has he got to prove?
He beat the heck out of McGregor, and I think
we'll do it again. But if I were him, I
come back for the money. But we'll see. But I
(01:02:16):
know we got some calls. Ye let's do that. Hey,
Max and Florida, you're on the odd couple on Fox
Sports Radio. What you got Max? How are you guys
doing for pleasure? To get on again? I'm a big
UFC guy. I love Cornor McGregor. But Chris, I have
to disagree with you, my man. Even though this gets
pay per view buys, it gets people talking about it,
I do not think this is a good look for
(01:02:36):
the UFC because this is not okay. You have media
people in the stands, you have fans in the stands,
and people can get hurt. I love the trash talk,
I love people getting involved with the hype with the fight,
but I don't want people to get involved or they
get hurt. No, I agree. I mean it was ugly
and hopefully we never see anything like that again. But
(01:02:58):
I'm just saying, going for do you think, I'm not
saying the UFC would want stuff like this to continue happening.
I think what should happen is that Kabib should get
a hefty fine, hefty, you know. And but I don't
think it should be anything. I don't want him suspend
it or anything like that. I hope that doesn't happen.
But do you think, I mean, if they have a rematch,
(01:03:20):
don't you think it will be the most anticipated fight
in UFC history? No? I do. I mean I get
all that, and there's no doubt about it that people
will get fired up about it because of the crazy ending.
I'm just saying, you gotta be careful not to promote
that and be okay with it, do you know what
I mean, so that the next time they think, oh,
that's cool, it was cool. When we went into the
(01:03:41):
stands and started fighting. That's never good. So you get
other people fighting. You know what else makes you you
wonder about UFC is a sport where you have a
lot of people from a lot of countries, and boxing too.
But we've seen in some of the European countries, I mean,
whether soccer or whatever, you see a lot of violence
(01:04:03):
in those you know, the you've seen it with the
bob wire on the soccer and the crowd for to
keep the two sides apart, the barbed wire, And that's
what I wonder if you see in America, we're not
you you know, we keep that stuff from happening for
the most part. But I you' you've got a lot
of people who aren't from America at these fights, and
(01:04:26):
you know the obviously the fight, I mean, Cabebe's from Russia,
and I don't know if they just got a different
mentality and they're like, look, this is how he goes
at sporting events here every once in a while. But
whatever the case, I'm with you. It's gotta, it's gotta.
They gotta stop that. Hey, hey, let's squeeze in one
more real quick before we get to depth. Ron and Kentucky.
You're on the yard Couple on Fox Sports Radio. What's up?
(01:04:48):
Ron a much? Guys? How are you doing today? Doing great?
What's happening? Hey? Listen? So do you guys not think
for a minute that this UFC is turning into a
w w E all over again. Saint and White as
a brilliant mind and anyway that they're gonna try to
make money and make big fights. They're gonna do it.
(01:05:09):
And I guarantee you, without a doubt in my mind,
all this was set up the public. You can not
set up. Yeah, I agree with you. I tweeted Ryan,
was it Ryan? Yeah? I tweeted Uh the Saturday night
that the UFC is real life WWE. That's what it is.
(01:05:30):
I mean, WFE was great when we were kids, and
I was in eighth grade and I'm into it and
I think it's real and everybody's trash talking and Meleay's
happened and all that stuff. The UFC is WWE for real. Hey, hey, Chris,
we got an update from Rob gr producer. There's some
Rob what do you got? According to uh Robert Little
(01:05:53):
Black Sports on line, it's one of the most plugged
in guys, you know when it comes to these kind
of things UFC WWE boxing kind of stuff. There's been
an initial medical suspension for both guys ten days, you know,
just recovery, and they're expecting longer suspensions forthcoming, but nothing
longer than six months, which is code for let's not
delay the rematch right and cash these checks right now.
(01:06:16):
That's what that's That's absolutely right, And again I think
the caller was right on the money. This is you know,
when I got to an age where I knew WWE
and you know, Georgia Championship Wrestling and with Gordon Solely
and all, that's when I got to an age where
I knew it was fake. There was a part of
me like, man, I wish this was real. That's what
(01:06:37):
we have now. You only got one trash talker right now,
and that's McGregor. But if you start getting more guys
talking trash, that's what the UFC is. We're gonna continue
this conversation McGregor, Cabibe, the Brawl, UFC, the rematch, Everything
hit us up at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
(01:06:59):
But let's bringing Deb Carson for West Trendy. All right,
We're gonna start with Monday Night Football, Saints hosting the
Red Skins, who freeze unders center, first and goal from
the two yard line, mark Ingram the lontail doct He
takes the handoff, puts his head, then a stot goal
line touchdown mark Ingram, and the Saints with an opening
drive touchdown here in New Orleans. Extra point, no good,
(01:07:20):
six nothing lead for the Saints over the Redskins and
nine to go in the first and that was the
Saints Radio network. As far as Breeze yardage watch, of course,
we said he needs two hundred one to become the
career passing yards leader. He already has forty eight yards
on the night, so he is on pace, as are
the Red Suck. They're already out to a one nothing
lead over the Yankees. Bottom of the second inning, Raphael
(01:07:40):
Devers scored on a Christian Vasquez RBI infield single. This
series is nodded at one all. The winner will face
the Astros who this afternoon completed a sweep of the
Indians in their Division series, winning game three eleven to three,
and the Dodgers have advanced to the National League Championship Series.
They eliminated the Braves with a six two win today.
They won the series three games to one. Great news.
(01:08:03):
There's a quick way you could save money. Switched to Geico.
Go to Geico dot com and in fifteen minutes you
could say fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Another
quick note from the NFL. The Eagles have placed running
back Jagi on injured reserve or portedly suffered the torn
to ACL and Sunday's lost to the Vikings. That's a shame. Yeah,
he was talking about they're not running the ball enough.
(01:08:24):
So now they already got what Corey cleming out and
Darren sprowls. I'm telling you it's not looking good for
the defending Super Bowl chance. It's early, dude. The season's
not over. Just a LiTi. You buried the Vikings and
the Patriots. I can do that. You can't. I say,
we're watching the NFC's contender playing right now. What so
(01:08:47):
you think this thinks are the best team in NFC.
I think they're going to go to the Super Bowl.
I don't know that. I don't know that they're the
best team. I think they're going to get the hot
in the in the postseason. Before the season is over,
they'll be the Aints again. Lab. I'm with you, dem
and that they're they're a contender. I'm with you on that.
But I think right now the Rams look like what
they do they do. But we will we will stay tuned,
(01:09:11):
of course, and Dev Carson will be back with us
next hour. Thank you very much. As always, you're welcome.
It's the Eye couple of Chris, Bruce Hard and Rob Parker.
We're coming you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
And it is easy to say fifteen percent or more
on your car insurance with Geico. Go to Geico dot
com or call eight hundred and nine four seven Auto.
(01:09:33):
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier
and robbing this McGregor cabebe hubbub something else that people
are missing. Remember the UFC before the fight. A couple
of weeks before the fight, they announced the six was
it six fights or eight fights? Rob g Okay a
six fight deal with McGregor. McGregor has lost three of
(01:09:57):
his last four fights if you include Floyd Mayweather and included.
He's lost two of his last three in UFC, and
a lot of people thought he lost the rematch with
Nate Diaz, and so what this is UFC is really
they're they're beholding to Connor McGregor. And if he gets
(01:10:18):
beat down again by Cabebe, like, you know, he's not
at the point where he's not relevant anymore because it's
just lost. You know, he hadn't lost too much. I
guess Nate Diaz was bigger. You can justify that that way.
Floyd Mayweather, of course was a boxer. You can justify that.
(01:10:39):
But if he loses again the Kabebe, then you wonder
how big of a draw he's gonna be. And when
people just start looking at his talk as just empty noise.
Alex ore A dj DJ Alex Tisher, who brings you
the funky sounds coming in and out of every break,
you had an interesting take. Yeah, my perspective on this too.
(01:11:02):
It kind of seems like it might come to fruition,
just like the Rhonda Rousy effect, where she was the
hottest thing around, everybody was clamming to her, but she
never really fought anybody that was up to her standard.
She was always fighting down to her competition, and she
finally fought somebody that was above her and she got rocked,
She got unstead unsteadied, she got knocked off her feet,
and she autimately lost the fight and also her fighting
(01:11:23):
career out of it. So in my perspective with Connor,
he's coming so much out of the gate, just being flamboyant, yelling,
talking all this up, and Kabeeb sat there quiet. I
knew from the get go that this wasn't a good
fight for him going into it, and he got demolished
within the fight, regardless of what the cards are, and
I could tell for the UFC in general itself, he's
going to blow over quickly. And he should have never
came back and fought, because after you transcend fighting as
(01:11:44):
he did, coming back to the situation, putting herself through
these rounds again and going into these situations not only
hurts you as a platform, but it hurts the sport
in general because look how the after bawl was. Do
you think that would have happened with any other fight?
Of course not. But he's attacking people's aggression of their personality,
the religion. It's it's just a battle. I think he's
not hungry anymore, even though he wants That's what Yeah,
(01:12:06):
that's what I was gonna get to is he's lost
his hunger, and once you lose that, anybody who's ki yeah,
could Beba's hungry. He's fighting for something. He wants the glory.
He's chasing something that's bigger than what McGregor is. McGregor
has hit the pinnacle of his career. He's done absolutely
everything he's chasing for. So what's the point of coming
back and fighting for what? You're not fighting for anything
other than just for extra money. You have all these careers,
(01:12:28):
these outlet of revenues, So what's the point he's coming back.
He made one hundred million off the Mayweather fight, which
I thought he could have retired after that. Yeah, he's
he's made. He's gonna make about fifty million off this
fight with the sponsorship his Whiskey as a sponsor company,
as a sponsor, he was involved in the promotions, So yeah,
he didn't have to fight anymore. The one thing I
(01:12:49):
disagree with you on is I don't compare McGregor to
ron Da Rousey because I think I think ron Da Rousey,
for the most part, was became so big and great
because she was beating fighters who weren't that good, Like
I think at that stage of women's MNA, you know,
you weren't getting a lot of the great women that
(01:13:09):
were fighting. I think McGregor was a legit fighter. Like
I think he's a really good fighter. This was just
a bad matchup for him. You know, he beat Jose
Aldo who had been undefeated for like ten years or
something like that, So he was a legit fighter. But
Kabib's just better. It's and it's a terrible matchup for McGregor.
You know, they say styles make fights, and that's true
(01:13:31):
in UFC as in boxing. But you give us a call,
let us know what you think. Eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine. But the other part two, Chris, is
I think some people enjoy as two nothing red sox JD.
(01:13:51):
Martinez with a suck fly to left field. By the way,
the Wizards are beating the Knicks fifty to forty four
in the preseason. I know you're not giving me preseason scores. Please,
you should be shot to even have that on. You mean,
I was just flicking. I'm trying to get to the game.
I got the I was going to slip ball um.
(01:14:14):
But but the other part is some people might enjoy
Connor McGregor getting beat up, do you know what I mean?
Like there's another element of that, or maybe maybe people
because he's so out there, he's so uh nasty and
yeah grotesque like Mayweather where people start watching because they
hope that Mayweather gets knocked out or they want to
(01:14:34):
see him get beat up or see him lose. Do
you know what I'm saying, Well, to enjoy Yeah, Saturday,
I was enjoying And there's a part of me that
does like McGregor. There's a part of me, but I
really was pulling from kebib to just beat him down
and he didn't. I was enjoying it. But I think
that only lasts so long, Like there has to be
a feeling of, well, we think this guy is really great,
(01:14:56):
we want to see him lose. But if he keeps
losing over and oh no, no, no, no, right, it
can't be over. But I'm just saying I think a
lot of people enjoyed that, and oh yeah, and would
probably love to see another beat down, but right, he
can't get beat down six fights in a row or anything, right, Right,
Well that's where that's where there's gonna be a rematch,
(01:15:16):
and uh, they're gonna both make a ton of money
if Kebib decides to do it. But yeah, it was
an interesting night for UFC. But it's events like this
that you know, people are saying it's gonna surpass boxing.
Events like this really make you wonder, you know, if
they're if people get turned off by what happens in
(01:15:38):
the crowd and then you know they don't have fight.
Great fighters don't last as long in UFC as they
do in boxing. You know, you're not. I mean, McGregor
was a great champion, but he's pretty much I think
he's pretty much done in that regard because with the
different disciplines in the fighting, it's hard to stay undefeated
(01:16:01):
and have a long rain. But I'll tell you what
coming up next, it's the hottest game show in the nation,
sources say is next I Couple. Fox Sports Radio. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with
Chris Brusar and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern
four PM Pacific. You tuned into the Odd Couple Chris
(01:16:25):
Brussart and Rob Parker on a metal Monday and Rob.
Car shopping can be confused in terms like dealer, price list,
price invoice. They just get you all out of sorts.
What Truecar gives you what you really need to know?
What did other people pay for the car that I want?
That way you can recognize what's a good price and
(01:16:46):
what's a bad price. Trust a brother. When you're ready
to buy a new or used car, visit Truecar to
enjoy more confident car buying experience. It's that time, sources say, check,
check check. Everybody say. These two have been covering sports
(01:17:07):
for nearly three decades a piece. I will say this.
Let's put the big Jay journalists to the test. It's
sources say yes, Sirs, sources say the odd a couple
of Fox Sports Radio. We do this every Monday at
this time, where we put seventy eight years of journalism
experience to the test. Between grow down now recently got
(01:17:32):
like twenty two. So to Rob Rock came out the
womb with a pen and paper. We do. We have
seventy eight because I started in ninety I got thirty
two years, so I got thirty two year thirty only
got thirty two, So I got what's I got twenty eight? Yeah? Okay,
so yeah, so we're closing in on seventy eight. Here,
we're here, We're closing in now. Recently this game has
(01:17:54):
been called the crisp we started invitation because he's been
taking robs of the woodshed on it. Well, because he
knows all these things that don't matter when it comes
to sports or something different. I'm sorry, but just like
could be, Rob's gonna shock the world right now with
a dominating performance. I'm a feeling about to see story
number one, Gentleman. My sources say that Yukon had football
coach Randy Etzel gets a two thousand dollars per game
(01:18:17):
bonus if his team even has the lead at halftime. Robin,
my source is good. Oh, that that sounds ridiculous. If
a two thousand dollars bonus if he has the lead
at halftime, Um, I gotta say, no, that's not that
(01:18:37):
can't be right. Yeah, there's a part of me that
wants to say true just because it does sound so ridiculous,
But I'm gonna say false. Oh what he gets bonuses
if he has the most sacks on their team, the
most tackles for loss. If he scores first, they have
the greatest bonus package in history. The coach the coach,
(01:18:59):
so this is just well, they must pay him a
dollar forty nine an hour. I mean, come on, everything's commission.
That sounds ridiculous. Story number two. My sources say that
the five year old son of former NFL running back
Jamal Charles got in some trouble over the weekend when
he accidentally shredded over a thousand dollars in cash that
(01:19:19):
Charles had in his office. Chris, and my source is
good who I feel like I would have heard about that,
But I'm gonna say true, that sounds true. Kids get
into everything, and you know he was just living by
the mantra it's always better with the shredded Chetah, Is
(01:19:39):
that it? I say? It's true? Oh my god, it
was somebody else that happened to a utah Ute season
ticket hold. All right, we knew what happened. It had
happened with some kids, right, Yes it did, Okay, sources
say Fox Sports rad of the Odd Chris, We sorry,
(01:20:00):
Rob Parker. My sources say that former Alabama coach Mike
DuBose accidentally shot himself in the abdomen while he was
riding a lawnmower on his property the other day. Rob,
when my source is good, another ridiculous story, I'm gonna
say true. Why would you have your gun with you?
(01:20:21):
When did you say he was a lawnmow on the
lawnmower he was cutting? He was cutting his grass in
the bronx. Where was he must live in a rough neighborhood.
I might have to do some stand up, Rob. Hey, well,
I will say true. Oh all right, he said he
(01:20:43):
had his guns for the snakes in the area that
he shoots themh they're getting the way. Oh wow, all right.
My sources say that the Anaheim Ducks veteran players have
banned everybody on the team from playing the game Fortnite
on road trips because they think it's a distraction. Chris
Busarve source is good. I'm gonna say true. I'm gonna
(01:21:05):
say false. You sit on a throw, we might have
a little upset in the man. Come on, hurry up,
run out of time? What you say a seconds like
losing to the Bills the world, sources say University of
Central Florida basketball player Rocas Vidas was arrested over the
(01:21:29):
weekend after he threatened to kill his roommate because he
didn't say hi to him at a tailgate. Robin my
source is good, Ah, sounds crazy. I'm gonna say true.
It does sound so crazy that you would think it's true.
But I'm gonna say false to get back in this game.
(01:21:54):
Figured it was so ludicrous that you couldn't make that up.
All right, So Rob's gonna get the win. Well, this
next one is just for fun and rights. My sources
saying Las Vegas PD reportedly made sixty three arrest for
fighting and disorderly conduct in the four hours immediately following
the McGregor could be matched Chris Summer source is good.
I think that's false. I don't think it was that many.
(01:22:19):
What did Chris say false. I'm gonna going with Chris
because it doesn't matter. You sit on a throne of love. Yeah,
well was it twenty something? They didn't even announce it.
Oh anyway, Yeah, you're slick. You're getting a slicker by
the by the week. You don't even know. I'm like,
I'm all in. Yeah, the first it's the first time
(01:22:40):
in like five months that you've won. Stop, it hasn't
been that long. Four It's at least four months. It's
been four it's been four months or something else, but
that hasn't been that. We'll enjoy my man and Jay.
You got the drum roll. The Eye Couple of Fox
Sports Radio, keep it locked. We are the Eye Couple.
(01:23:01):
I'm Chris Brussarry. That's my main man, Rob Parker. You
can follow us on Twitter. I'm at Chris Underscore Bruce Sorry.
You can find Rob at Rob Parker f S one
And as always, we're coming you live from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen
percent or more in your car insurance. Visit Geico dot
com for a free rate quote. And Rob, I know
(01:23:25):
you're stubborn when it comes to these things. But your
two Super Bowl picks, uh looked like they're in trouble.
We already talked about Jacksonville as they got hammered by
the Kansas City Chiefs. It took you two games to
write off the New England Patriots and three to write
(01:23:47):
off the Minnesota Vikings. I'm telling you your boys, the
Eagles are They're in trouble. They're two and three. Their
running game is horrible, they can't put up points. They
haven't scored twenty four points yet in any of their
five games, and they just lost jay A Gya, their
(01:24:09):
best running back. At least they're one that's healthy to
the torn acl Now. They got Darren Sproles out, Corey
Clement out, Jaya Gia. Those are all their running backs.
They're in trouble, man, I'm not buying it. They got
the guy who was going to be the MVP of
the Super Bowl last year. That's history, man, that's a
(01:24:30):
whole history wins in a lifetime, and it just takes
a little time, Chris to get it all back. Nobody's
running away with the division. It's not over for them,
not by any any stretch of the imagination. Because the
team that you're that's up out front, who's two and one,
is currently losing to the Saints. So they'll be two
and three like everybody else in the division, and they
(01:24:53):
still have plenty of time to bounce back and get
it together. So I'm not buying it at all. The
Eagles have a lot of good players. They have a
lot of They have a great quarterback, who's coming off
an injury and he'll be better later than he is
right now, but he'll get there. And I'm telling you
people tried, people try to count them out last year
(01:25:16):
when they had the injuries. You remember everybody they went
under dogs the entire way. Oh yeah, they're not gonna
be Once Carson Wentz got hurt, they're done. They're they're
they're through. They had about four or five other starters
who also a linebacker, a couple of linebackers, guys who
got hurt with starters, all of that, and what happened.
They won the Super Bowl. So I'm not gonna I'm not,
(01:25:37):
in any stretch of the imagination gonna think that they're
done already. See, that was part of the problem. Though
they loved that underdog role. They played it up. They
had the mask and they looked like dogs, and they
always were talking about how it's us against the world
and nobody believes in us, blah blah blah. Now with
(01:25:58):
some expectations on them, now they're the hunted instead of
the hunter. Now you know, everybody's giving them their best
shot and they can't get it done. I'm sorry. Look,
it's this is this happens. I mean it's been since
two thousand and one. The Dallas Cowboys were the last
team to repeat as Super Bowl champion. They will be
(01:26:21):
doing well to make the playoffs and give themselves a chance.
But they're suffering a little bit from that Super Bowl hangover.
But the differentition a bunch of injuries. But the difference
is it's not the same cast. They got a lot
of different people. This roster is better than it was
a year ago. It's you're not sat some differences, but
(01:26:43):
it's mainly but a lot of the guys they were
They were about five or six guys who were big
part of that team that didn't get to play last
year because they got hurt near the end. And all
I'm telling you is do not pooh pooh what the
Eagles if they All they need to do is get
it together, get these guys together, and they'll be back
in the mix. That's it, I'm telling Led by the quarterback.
(01:27:04):
Led by the quarterback, Well, let's let's talk about wins.
And I like wins. I like what he's arm. No,
But I'm saying this to you because you want us
to pump the braces on. Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff
and all these other guys. I mean, look, are we
certain that Carson Wentz is gonna always play like he
(01:27:25):
did last season? He's only averaging two hundred and seventy
five yards a game, again in a video game league.
I'm not saying he hasn't been good because he's been
down touchdowns and interceptions? Does he have? He got five
TVs in three games and how many interceptions? One interception?
He's not playing that poorly. I know. I'm not saying
(01:27:45):
he's playing poorly. I'm not saying he's playing poorly. But
he ain't lightening the world on fire like he did
last year. He's not even a thought in the MVP race.
Well not yet, but there's time. Not yet. Chris ain't amazing.
He's patient, you are. I'm patient with the guy who
was going to be the MVP before he got hurt.
(01:28:05):
You keep saying that, but you're not patient with the
guy who was the MVP, Tom Brady. You gave him
two games with none of his receivers and they were done.
Come on, man, hello, is this on? Is my mic on? Hello?
I hear you? I mean I can see the Parker
(01:28:27):
Power rankings, right, now Jacksonville number one, Philadelphia number two. No,
I can see it. Come on, man, ye my count,
but I can't do all that now. I mean, some
team's gonna have to move. Being your top five all
two and three would be hard, right, Jacksonville's not going
that three and two? Yes, but look at what they've done.
(01:28:50):
They're gonna look behind. They lost in Tennessee. That's what
they've done, nine to six. They didn't give up any touchdowns.
They got a quarterback that throws interceptions like lines a ball,
throws three quarter quart pass Yeah. Please, what was that? Parker? No,
don't give me that. That was a Chris Broussard. That
(01:29:11):
was terrible. I need a cold shower. Nah, but Rod
coming when you gotta look, just be honest. You don't
like what you see in Philadelphia. But I'm not saying
how can I How could I like any of that?
I mean, they lost, they lost. I'll give you that, Chris,
But I'm not saying. It's five games into the season.
(01:29:35):
That's no, it ain't. It ain't even a third of
the season. It's not even over. It's just a little
bit past a quarter of the season. There's plenty of
time left there's nothing to panic about. It would be
different if you were two and three at this point
and maybe the team leading the division is five and all.
(01:29:55):
Maybe I would maybe I would, I would buy that.
But that's not where we are right now. Not in
that saving grace right now for them. That division is
wide of a Dallas is two and three, New York's
winning four, Washington's two and one. But like you said,
they may lose tonight to the Saints. So yeah, that's
the saving grace for the Philadelphia Eagles. Let's stay in Pennsylvania.
(01:30:20):
Are you convinced now that Pittsburgh has found its way?
I mean they demolished Atlanta. Um, I'm always They always
or a team you look at in the AFC that's
gonna be in the mix, even though it was so
ugly early on and you thought, well, maybe maybe the
(01:30:40):
wheels are gonna fall off, But no, they'll be there.
I mean, they're still gonna be one of the better
teams in the AFC. So I do believe that. Yeah,
I'm with you. Um, they just have so much talent again,
I mean, however you feel about it. Levian Bell is
coming back and it would behoove him to play well,
because he's gonna want a huge contract next summer. I
(01:31:05):
do think their division is a little tougher. Obviously, Baltimore
is always a force to be wreckon with Cleveland now,
is legit. I think they're you know, they're two two
in one, just like the Steelers and then the Bengals. Man,
I mean, look, do I think the Bengals are one
of the best three teams in the league. No, but
they're four in one and they're playing good football. They're
(01:31:27):
scoring a bunch of points, and you know, they look
a little bit different than your typical Cincinnati Bengals team
that Marvin Lewis puts out there. You gotta give them credit.
Do it down seventeen nothing in that, yeah, yeah, yeah,
and they came storming back. Update on the Red Sox Yankees.
It's four to nothing Red Sox in the fourth thinning
(01:31:49):
and the Red Sox have the bases loaded and nobody out.
Oh they'll do that one out. I'm sorry, is it
one out? No outs? Okay, so I was right, no outs.
He might be about to put this thing big hit here,
will blow it open. But so it's still early fourth inning,
but the Yankees are out to sink pitching is a
problem tonight. What did you think Mike Tomlin made his
(01:32:11):
comments about the officials. Let's let's go to those and
hear what he said. Those look like legitimate calls. We
got to be better there. But some of the other stuff, man,
is a joke. We got to get better as a
National Football League. Man. These penalties are costing people games
and jobs. We gotta get them correct. And um so
I'm pissed about it, to be quite honest with you,
But that's all I'm gonna say on it. When Mike Tomlin,
(01:32:32):
did you have a checkbook with him? Because that's a checkbook, right,
You're right about that. But he's on the competition committee
and so it'll that's what will be interested. I agree
with your take that the league, you know, this is
all about money for them, and they don't want to
have to, you know, pay up guys in retirement or families.
(01:32:55):
No doubt it's all about that. But at the same time,
you know, you have to keep the essence of the
game to what it is. I mean, if you start
turning off fans because just silly calls that are inconsistent,
you know, you don't know when you're getting what's gonna
be a rough in the pastor call, and what's not
(01:33:18):
it's it could hurt the game, and that hurts the
bottom line just as much as them paying out these settlements.
You see the Red Sox just went up seven. Oh wow,
seven nothing in the Bronx Boston. Yeah, this is uh,
this is getting interesting. But yeah, I agree with Mike Tomlin.
(01:33:40):
I think we're seeing too many. This is the the
rough in the pastor has become the catch rule of
this year. Last year was what's a catch? Nobody knew
what a catch was, And now you're seeing all these
penalties you know that are really affecting games. And Mike
Thomlins absolutely right that you're talking about players getting cut,
(01:34:01):
you're talking about coaches getting fired. You know, you're talking
about people losing their livelihoods because of these inconsistent calls
that referees and umpires are making. And here's the bottom
line ropy the NFL, because their officiating has been poor
for a while, all the money they make, it is
(01:34:22):
absolutely ridiculous that they don't have full time refs. No,
am I wrong, No, You're not wrong. They I mean,
can you imagine picturing an NFL referee that we all
see on television on Sunday, you know, working at Travelers
Insurance Company or something like that, or working at you know,
(01:34:43):
a restaurant during the week. I mean, come on, what
is this? And the other problem, and I brought it
up the other day, is sometimes I think the referees
and are just behind a step or two behind and
they don't see everything. There's a lot of bad calls
in the NFL, and it's been, as you mentioned, has
been going on for years. This is not new, it
really isn't. And even sometimes with the replay, they still
(01:35:06):
get it wrong. I mean, it's amazing with all the technology,
all the stuff that they got, all advantage points and cameras,
and they still still get it wrong. So it is
one of those things where you look at the NFL
and they do have to do a better job because
I think that the job that's been done has been
unsatisfactory for the most part. And I know you really
(01:35:29):
can't say, can't say too much about it if you're
in the league. And that's why you know, when you
speak out against the referees, is usually gonna cost you
some money because they can't have all that. But I
think at some point the league has to look at
it and decide which way are they going here? They
gotta get the game better. And you don't want the
referees to be the story. You want it to be
(01:35:51):
about the players. No, not at all. Eight seven seven
ninety nine Fox eight seven seven nine nine six nine
six three six nine. Give us a call. We're talking NFL.
What do you think Are the Eagles in trouble? Is
this just not gonna be their year? Or are the
Steelers back? What do you think about the officiating? And
(01:36:12):
we're also going to get into Odell Beckham and Daz Bryant.

(01:37:22):
the fourth ending in the Bronx, are in trouble. Rob
but they're not the only New York team that's in trouble.
I would submit to you that the New York Football
Giants are in deep trouble. Regardless of what Odell Beckham
said about his interview with his very enlightening, honest, eye
(01:37:47):
opening interview with Josina Anderson of ESPN, regardless of him
thinking that that galvanize the team, I still think they're
in trouble. What did you think about Odell's comments? And
do you think that they will galvanize this team? It's
ain't nothing now, wow, ain't nothing on that break. Let's
(01:38:11):
play the comments from Odell back to that first he
was asked about Eli Manning, is he the problem with
the offense? And then after that he kind of goes
into whether or not the Giants are using him uh
correctly into his full ability. I don't know, Like I said,
I feel like, is it amount of time that you
can can you still throw? Yeah, it's been pretty safe
(01:38:33):
and it's been you know, cool catching a shadow and
trying to take it to the house. But I'm you know,
I want to I want to go over the top
of somebody. Haven't been in the place where I feel
like I could really go out and do everything that
I'm capable of doing. I don't get twenty targets like
some other receivers, shits everything and not to say that
it's not gonna work, but at the moment, I feel
like I work entirely, way too hard. Rob. I heard
(01:38:57):
Chris Carter, our colleague at Fox Sports one the day
on First Things First, rip these comments and say, sometimes
you don't need to tell the truth even though these
things may be true. They didn't. The Giants didn't share
all the truths about Odell that you know, stuff may
have gone on and probably did that we don't know
about in the public. We just had rid what'son on
(01:39:20):
about two hours ago, and he said essentially the same
thing that you know, you don't need to be calling
anybody out, and especially when you go out there and
you drop a pass on fourth and three yesterday and
then you make a gaff on a punt return that
cost your team a touchdown. Where you stand on Odell
(01:39:41):
Beckham's comments, Yeah, I mean I get all that stuff,
and you really don't. You would rather not be out public,
as you know, as a journalist and a reporter, you know,
you love when guys are understand. You know, there's a
lot of guys who don't say anything, and oh my goodness,
it's couldn't be tending. Often this is like unbelievable. The
(01:40:02):
Red Sox just keep hitting. Uh it is ten nothing, Chris,
you can believe that. Yeah, I'm I'm, I'm I'm watching
in the fourth inning and they just the Yankee pictures
cannot get anybody out. But anyway, ten nothing. So so
I look at it two ways. I could see where
teammates could be upset with it, you know, just from
(01:40:23):
the standpoint that, um, you know that stuff should be
behind closed doors. And as Chris Carter said, you don't
feel like you should always tell the truth to say
you know about stuff, but but it's hard for me
to just Uh. I get his frustration level that things
are really bad with the Giants. This is not what
(01:40:44):
they signed up for, not what they thought it would be,
and instead it's been really ugly um for the Giants,
And I could see his frustration. I just believe he
felt like, is this what I signed up for that
five weeks through the season, I don't have a touchdown
and my quarterback can't throw more than twenty twenty five
yards and the offense is stagnant. And I know that
(01:41:07):
they scored you know, some points in the loss the
other day, but you know what I mean. YEA. Ultimately,
it's been it's been a it's been a disaster so far,
and a lot of it is frustration. I think there
are two excuses for Odell Beckham to come out and
say what he said publicly. One and I don't know
(01:41:28):
the answer to this, but I would say one if
he has been beating this drum with his teammates, with
Eli Manning, with the coaching staff all season. Look, get me,
we need some different schemes. They know what we're doing.
We need to be more imaginative on offense. Look, I
(01:41:50):
can beat my guy down the field, I can get
behind the safety, throw me the ball. Let's let's go
for some deep routes. If he's been beating that drum
for weeks and the Giants are turning a deaf ear
to him, and every week they go out there with
this week offense and anemic offense and can't score thirty points,
(01:42:12):
then I understand why he might come out publicly as
a last resort and say, you know what, this is
the only way they're gonna listen to me if I
put it out there publicly and they have to do
something differently. And the second excuse I think for him
to say this is maybe if teammates are coming to
him he's a leader on this team he is viewed
(01:42:33):
is that he's got a lot of respect in that
locker room, and with the fact that he just got
this huge contract, his teammates know he's got juice and
he's got clout and he's got security. So maybe they've
been going to him saying, look, man, what are we
doing right? We need to throw the ball down field,
Like maybe they even saying you need to say something,
and he's the only one who can say it because
(01:42:54):
of that. That's another great point, Chris, because that might be,
you know, like he's bulletproof, so he could take the
bullets and the other guys can't say anything even though
they can't stand what's happening and what's going on, and
felt like something needs to be said. You need to
be out there because this is not getting through. And
so that's a great point that maybe that's where it's
(01:43:16):
coming from. Well, and you know what, they did do
some things differently. You know that that double pass where
he caught it, threw it for a fifty or fifty
seven yard touchdown, fifty four yards whatever it was. To
say KWin Barkley, we hadn't seen that in the first
four weeks, Meli throwing down the field more average nine
yards an attempt, whereas he had averaged six yards an
(01:43:38):
attempting three of their four game. First four games, they
scored thirty points or more than that thirty one for
the first time since twenty fifteen. We're talking about three
years in the league where people are lightening up the
scoreboards with points. The Giants haven't been able to do
that until finally today, yesterday and then they still couldn't
win because Caroline to kick the ninety three yard field
(01:44:01):
goal to beat him. Yep, so maybe that's what he
was talking Abbe, It wasn't that, you know, this got
us entered yet, would you say field goal sixty three?
That was a boot? It might have been good from
seventy That was his longest kick, right, a second longest
in the NFL history. I mean sixty three yards to
(01:44:23):
win the game, that's right. And it didn't get the
added up the pressure right, but didn't get the added
uh altitude or help in Denver, yeah, where it would
be easier. Hey, a quick quiz for Rob gr producer
Rob you ready, why why do they call the Giants
the New York Football Giants Because there used to be
(01:44:47):
the New York Baseball Giants. Very nice? Okay, A lot
of people hear that, and they don't know the reason
because both of those teams were in town at the
same time, and the Giants were there first, so they wouldn't,
you know what I mean, they wouldn't be the Baseball
Giant because they were just the New York Giants. See
Rob thinks because he's been covering sports longer than I've
(01:45:07):
been alive, I wouldn't know that. I'm you know that.
Really what's interesting is that they why they name him
the Giants. Well, but I already had the baseball jot
because a lot back then, a lot of teams had
the same the Saint Louis Cardinals and the car chan
Los Cardinals football team. There was a lot of There
were a lot of teams like that. I remember that. Okay,
(01:45:27):
do you remember any other ones? Um, the what was it,
Chicago White Sox Cubs, but one of the other. Yeah,
there's some other team I think I'm trying to remember,
but but it was a few other It was a few, yeah, yeah, yeah,
few other cities. Yep. That's cool. Well, how did Odell's
(01:45:48):
comments about Eli Man even really go over in the
Giants locker room? Gary Myers from the Athletic has the
inside scoop and he'll share with that with us next.
But first let's get the deaf Carson for the latest
in sports. Well, guys, mercifully for the Yankees, the top
of the fourth inning came to an end. Boston put
up a seven spots in the time. Yes, so the
(01:46:09):
Red Sox have a ten nothing lead over the Yankees.
They are in the bottom of the fourth inning. Now
in the Bronx series is tied at won all. The
winner will advance to face the Astros in the American
League Championship Series. Houston completed a sweep of the Indians today,
also headed to the Championship Series. The Dodgers in the
National League. They outslugg the Braves six to two. They
won the NLDS three games to one. Sola advances to
(01:46:31):
face the Brewers in the NLCS, and the Dodgers say
Clayton Kershaw will start Friday's Game one in Milwaukee against
the Brewers. Meanwhile, I record already or moving up a spot,
I should say Drew Brees. On a connection with Alvin Kamara,
he passed bred far form number two on the career
passing yards list. He then promptly threw a touchdown to
Josh Hill and then Mark Ingram has since added his
(01:46:54):
second touchdown of the game. It is all New Orleans
twenty to six lead for the Saints over the Redskins,
about two minutes to go in New Orleans. This is

McGregor is looking for a rematch with kabig Nermaga met Off,
and he wants it soon. He don't want none. He
wants that money exactly. I know he don't need it,
but no, he wants the fame. He wants to start him.
He doesn't want to fight again. He's yeah, I mean,
(01:47:38):
he's feisty, but you know why why continue to fight?
Move on? Yeah? I agree, I agree, but I'll be watching.
I'll tell you that they'll get my money. Of course.
You know you didn't pay for it this week. I
didn't pay. I know he didn't sit down. I know
he didn't pay. I would have. I would have, but
you know a friend of mine happened to be watching.
(01:47:59):
Yeah yeah, and slid over. Everything just feels so orchestrated.
It's kind of like boxing. Now. You know, if if
if Mayweather had not dodged Manny all of those times.
I probably would have continued to pay for those fights,
but now it feels like everything's orchestrated and the fighters
get to dictate what path they want to their championship. No. Well,
that's one of the nice things about UFC is that
(01:48:20):
you know you do get the best fights, unlike boxing.
So yeah, we'll see, but thanks a lot. Deav bet.

And we're glad to bring in Gary Myers, who writes

Them Cowboys that'll be hitting stores tomorrow, so make sure
you pick up a copy of that How About Them

his franchise. You can follow Gary on Twitter at Gary
Myers New York or Gary Myers N. Why Gary Myers
N y, Gary, welcome to the Eye Couple. What's going on? Fellas?
What Chris? Did you know? Did you know that Rob
and I are former teammates? It's the Daily News, that's right, Yes,
yes I did. I was just gonna say Gary and
(01:49:23):
I worked together, covered many games together. And Gary, I
am so happy about this book. It sounds like it's great. Well,
thanks for thought, Robin. Now it's about ten jobs ago
for you. Way, Yeah, I know. You know I can't
hold on to a job. I can't. Well, Gary, we
were talking, go ahead. No, it's just because I'm really
(01:49:46):
excited about this book. You know, I worked in Dallas
from eighty one to eighty nine, and I've always wanted
to do a book solely on the Cowboys, where I can,
you know, write about some stuff that happened when I
was there. But then, you know, even though I moved
back in eighty nine right after Jerry and Jimmy got there,
(01:50:06):
I certainly stayed in touch with Jerry and the organization
all these years. So this was really a fun book
for me to research and to write. Well, Gary, let's
stick with that with the Cowboys. And I know one
thing in the book it said that you know, Jerry
Jones loves Jason Garrett because he can pretty much he's
almost like a puppet, you know, and he can almost
(01:50:29):
feel be like the head coach when he's got Garrett.
There is that really the situation, And I mean he's
got great job security at seeing through through mediocre a
mediocre tenure. There is that really what's going on with
Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett. Well, if it's not that
Jason has reached a point where he's got a bedroom
(01:50:52):
in the Jones house, that's getting pretty close. They're that close.
You know. He's been there for a really long time.
He played played for the Cowboys with an assistant coach
for the Cowboys, and he's been the head coach there
for eight or nine years. And the results are pretty mediocre.
(01:51:13):
But Jerry's just very comfortable with him. Jason is not
a bad coach. He's certainly not a great coach. He's
a mediocre coach and the results have been mediocre. And
I think all we needed to know about Jason really
was in overtime last night, fourth and one on the
Houston forty two, about six minutes to go in overtime.
(01:51:35):
He's got the best running back in the league, and
I know he was stopped on third down, but if
you still believe in that offensive line that's minus Travis Frederick,
you just go for it. You try to win the
game right there, you'd be aggressive, and he punted it.
And even after the game, Jerry said, you know, I'm
a risk taker, and we weren't playing as well as
(01:51:57):
them at that point. That was a time to really
kind of assert yourself. And then he goes, of course,
I'm not second guessing the coach. Yeah, but you know,
I was reading a lot of it. I read it
the transcript from Jason's press conference today and and a
lot of the columns in Dallas and the tweets and whatnot.
(01:52:18):
So you get a really good feel, even though I'm
not there right now, you get a good feel for
what the reaction was. And I didn't haven't seen anybody
defending Jason's decision. And it really is hard to defend
in an overtime game when you're already across to fifty
and you got Zeke Elliott back there, and you got
to figure if they stopped them once, they're not going
(01:52:39):
to stop them again. And it just is, you know,
really emblematic of his tenures the head coach there just
he's eight and eight. He's an eight and eight coach.
And I won't say there's a mandate for Jason to
make the playoffs this year, especially because Jerry didn't get
any wide receivers. But I guess think the fans are
(01:53:02):
getting really restless. But like I said at the beginning,
Jerry's just really comfortable with Jason, who allowed I mean,
I've never heard of an owner on Monday mornings that
sits in the staff meeting with assistant coaches, and Jerry's
there every Monday, and Steven's there as well, and it's
just really unusual and there's not a lot of head
coaches that I could allow that. And I think Jason's
(01:53:24):
ability to hold on to his job to a large
degree is because he lets Jerry kind of do what
he wants Gary does. Does Jerry really realize how how
things have not gone well since he basically took over
as GM and a chef and bottle washer and everything
(01:53:44):
else and he's in control of everything. I mean, I
just can't get over the Cowboys are hardly America's team,
more like South America's team, because they were always under
five hundred. But I don't I don't get it. Does
he does he even realize how bad it's been since, uh,
Jimmy Johnson and all those guys left. I mean, it's
been a long time. Well, I think it does eat
(01:54:05):
away at him. Rob that he's very competitive. He does
want to win. His priorities and I'm not sure what
order they are. Besides his family, which is everybody's first priority.
His two priorities are making money and winning football games.
And I'm pretty sure if you took a poll of
the fans in Dallas, they think that making money is
(01:54:25):
number one on the list. He says that it really
bothers him and it's hard for him to understand or
to even comprehend how it's been over twenty years since
his team was in the Super Bowl, and his biggest
regret is he feels he wasted the Romo years, and
he did because Tony was for a long time a
(01:54:47):
top five quarterback and they never got past the divisional
rounds of the playoffs. And a lot of it has
to do with the fact that Jerry considers himself a
foot ball man. He considers himself the general manager of
the team, even he felt that way when Jimmy was there,
even though we know Jimmy was making other personnel moves.
(01:55:09):
So when Jimmy leaves, he figures, Okay, this is Mike
Toy and I finally get a chance to play with it.
But after the lung and one of the chapters in
my book is about Jerry Jones comment general manager and
why has he not realized that he puts his team
at a disadvantage by not having a real football man
(01:55:30):
in there, and for the Cowboys having to compete against
teams that have football people in those positions. I think
it's a real detriment. It's the eye couple. Chris Brussa
and Rob Parker were joined by Gary Myers of The Athletic,
author of the new book that's coming out tomorrow. How
about them Cowboys? Let's move on to the Giants though, Gary,
(01:55:50):
how big is this Odell Beckham situation with the comments
he made to Josina Anderson? You know, will it be
able to be brushed under the rug or is this
really a problem in that organization right now? No, Chris,
I think it's a problem. They It's funny that the
Giants lost again yesterday. It was. It was a crushing loss,
(01:56:11):
a sixty three yards field goal, the buzzer. You know,
it's hard to come back from that. But the Giants,
and at least Odell is claiming that his comments and
then subsequent apology to the team helped them bond and
become stronger and helped him fight yesterday. I'm not buying
any of that. Odell's Odell. I mean, he's he's an
(01:56:32):
incredibly talented player, but he's just very immature. From the time,
I'd say about April first, when it became apparent to
him that the Giants did try to trade him but
couldn't get an acceptable offer and they were going to
keep him, so then his and he would have liked
to be traded to the Rams, by the way, But
from April first until right before the season started, his
(01:56:55):
complete focus was gone getting a new contract from the Giants.
So he showed up to some of the he was
there for mini camp. He came to training camp on
the line and never you know, gave him ultimatum, if
I don't have a new contract by the beginning of
the season, I'm gonna walk out. He did everything right well.
He's also besides being incredibly talented. He's also a really
smart kid, and he knew that it was a ninety
(01:57:17):
million dollar contract on the line was sixty five million
dollars guaranteed. And if you can't behave yourself without much
money at stake, then then I don't know. He was
a perfect guy. You know, he's never been in trouble
off the field, you know, never been arrested, nobody ever
suspected of doing drugs or anything like that. It's just
he's a knucklehead. The boat trip, all kinds of different
(01:57:41):
stuff that just make you shake your head and wonder
when is he going to grow up? So he gets
his contract and the season doesn't start the way he wants.
He's not catching any touchdown passes, and he finally let
it all loose with Josina, who gets a great stuff
out of him. I mean, she's she has a very
good relationship with him, and to get him say the
things that he said and that on tape, on that
(01:58:03):
interview on camera, that was amazing. And I really believe
that's how he feels. But now that he's got his
money in his pocket, he's back to being Odell, no
doubt about it. Hey, Gary, won't even have less than
a minute. Last thing is on Eli just well, the
Giants rue the day or that they that they decided
to go with a running back with all those quarterbacks available,
(01:58:25):
and they didn't go and get a quarterback in the
last draft, you know, Rob, I think my new theory
on this is that it's not so much that the
Giants were in love with Eli, as Gettleman and Schremer
kept telling us. I truly believe they just weren't in
love with any of the quarterbacks. Now that could turn
out to be a horrible mistake. It wasn't so much
(01:58:48):
they were in love with Barkley and it wasn't that
they were in love with Eli. They just didn't look
at any of those quarterbacks as saying, Okay, he's our
answer for the next ten years. So they took who
they considered to be the best player in the draft.
And he is a dynamic player. I mean, Barkley's terrific,
But they don't have their quarterback in the future, and
maybe they feel they'll just get him in next year's draft.
(01:59:08):
So I think it was a mistake because seeing Donald
now over the first five weeks of the season, I
think he's gonna be a great player, and Mayfield's been
very impressive as well, no doubt. Gary. Thank you, great stuff, Gary,
Good luck with the book. Gary, Well thanks in Our

Odd Couple. This is Chris Bruce Sard and Rob Parker
and Rob new Orleans is decimating the Washington Redskins. I
guess we're seeing what the Redskins are made of, and
(02:00:40):
it's not much. No, That's why I was telling you
the NFC East is way open. It's hoping if Redskins
that was fraudulent two and one are doing something. I'm
not surprised to getting throttled. I'm not buying into the Redskins,
I'm sorry. And they're actually just playing the pawn in
this celebration for Drew Brees, who and all he needed
(02:01:01):
was the first half, not even the whole half, to
get his necessary two hundred and one yards and pass
Peyton Manning and become the all time leader in passing
yards in NFL history. What an accomplishment over seventy one.
He'll be at about seventy two thousand yards right now.
(02:01:22):
And let's hear the call on Breeze's record breaking completion.
Ball spotted at the Saints thirty eight yard line, first
and ten two forty six remaining, Saints leaded twenty to six.
Breeze is completed passes to eight different receivers already. He
starts in the shotgun, drops back, looks to the far sideline,
wide open tray Plon Smith and tray Clon Smith is
(02:01:45):
gonna go to the end zone. Drew Brees has done it.
You have just witnessed history in New Orleans. Drew Brees
is the NFL's all time leading passer. Drew Brees goes
sixty two yards to tray Kuon Smith down the first sideline.
Shouldn't have happened any better way, Rob. What an incredible
(02:02:06):
career Drew Brees has had. And you know he's just
defied all of the rules. Six feet tall and a
lot of people didn't think he could be able to
be successful coming out of college. Then you know he
had some issues at San Diego and goes to New
Orleans and the rest is history. I mean, he's led
the league in passing several years, led the league. Is
(02:02:30):
accuracy is off the charts yards per game. I mean,
the guy's phenomenal and good for him, no doubt. Net
came from the New Orleans Saints radio network that call
what You're right. I got two quick stories. One is
when he was coming out of Purdue, right Purdue, Yeah,
I wanted the Lions. We were doing I was doing
radio in Detroit. I wanted him to take him you know,
(02:02:52):
to draft to him and I talked about him forever
and nobody and I think he got picked in the
second round or the last pick of the first round,
so I think it was the second round for picking
the second round and they passed on him, third pick
of the second round, one fifty nine. Yeah, well yeah
he was but they but they picked him later and uh,
they didn't take him. And the other one was when
Miami the second round, you're right, I'm sorry, second round
(02:03:16):
thirty second pick overall. Yeah, yeah, I think it was, yeah,
second round. But the other one is, uh, he didn't
he fail a physical in Miami with Nick Saban, I
mean just just think about that with his shoulder. They
didn't take him when he was a free agent because
of that, and what would they went with Dante Colepepper instead.
Imagine what would have happened with Nick Saban had Drew Brees,
(02:03:38):
had they actually signed him and and and he continued
his career there in Miami. That you're talking about possibly
changing history. Yes, I mean maybe maybe Saban's is successful
in Miami, no doubt. To Alabama, it's crazy, would have
been nuts, There's no question about that. Well, Rob, great show,
