Welcome to Connoisseuru's Corner. I'm Jordan. We've been talking with
Susan Mara Bregman. She's a great photographer and author. Her
latest book is New England Suites, Donuts, Bond, Bonds, and
Whoope Pies, published by Arcadia Press. And it's about the
time we started making whoopee I mean, got to the
whoope pie story. Susan take it away.

So three states can credibly claim the whoopee pie as
their own, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. And there's been especially
a rivalry between Maine and Pennsylvania about the beginnings of.

In Maine, the whoopee pies are believed to have originated
in Lewiston at a bakery called Lobattis.

Le Batties is still around. They sold their first whoopee
pie in nineteen twenty five and they still follow the
original recipe.

For those who are uninitiated, there might be two people
out there who don't know what a woope pie is,
explain and describe it.

The traditional whoopee pie are two mounds of chocolate cake
with a white, creamy filling in the middle, and the
filling could be butter cream or it could have marshmallow
fluff in it.

But basically, a whoopy pie kind of looks like a hamburger,
but it's very sweet and very delicious.
