Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey man, what's going on?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm not sure you tell me?

Speaker 1 (00:05):
You know, ready to talk about stranger things?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
A bunch of kids doing activities just like me.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, this is uh. First of all, where did you
get a where'd you get a wig?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
It's a wig? That's how I always look. It's pretty sweet, right, sure?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, you are wearing your Watertown Police Cops and Kids
T shirt as well. Hearkening back to what circa ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Two thousand? That's what that's the year now?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Is that street hockey or flag football?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
This would be flag football Patriots number thirty hometown team
got lucky.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
I would say that my mind is always in that time,
always circa the year two thousand. Nothing bad is going
to happen to us.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I had a question positive to me earlier ago, and
you'll have an opinion on this. My brother, who is
twenty three or twenty four, I forget think he's twenty three,
asked the family group chat at their peak who was
the most popular. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber,
Taylor Swift. Pretty rap of response from everyone that Michael

(01:11):
Jackson is the answer. There fall probably by Brittany Internet
era kind of took off with her, but then the
Beatles got thrown in there as far as group dynamics go,
So that's probably the real answer. And then I said,
if you were to Peru's our eighth grade yearbook, no
one was more popular than eminem in a post eight
mile world.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
In our eighth grade yearbook, we all had either the
song eight Mile or Lose Yourself as their favorite song,
favorite movie, best movie eight Mile.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
And your hair well, i'd say your hair more looked
like that in like three than it did in like
two thousand and two thousand and one.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Who am I?

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Oh, you're spoilish, spoilish, Come on, Mac.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Let me ask you this. Out of all the character
is that we have on the show, which of the
Stranger Things character types would you most identify with as
yourself being a teenager?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, so specifically thinking about myself through a teenage lens,
like high school lens. I hate to say it, but
I think it's Jonathan like probably a little too quiet,
try to prove myself, you know, pursuing a girl with
a girl I don't think I'm good enough for like that.
I think I very much identify with you, hair, I

(02:32):
think I very much identify with Jonathan. Unfortunately, because like
if I think about it, I don't identify with Dustin
or any of like the nerd kids. It didn't really
operate in that realm. I wasn't as cool as Steve.
I wouldn't say I was like I was okay, you know,
I wasn't the coolest kid in the cool school. I
wasn't the most uncool. So I don't think I can

(02:52):
identify with Steve though, because it wasn't that cool and
I didn't have that delicious flow. I obviously can't identify
with one of the adults then, so I think it
has to be Jonathan for me. Go, Yeah, who do
you identify with?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I would say that I'm close to Dustin, but I
was costplaying as one of the jocks, you know what
I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
No, I think to you and I's credit, we both
had some cross appeal. We had friends here there, everywhere,
you know, little pockets here and there.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Friends.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, you had you had, you know, sort of your
bandish phase, your band friends. You know, you played some
you played some music. So yeah, I think that's that's
a somewhat accurate assessment.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
I was a real licorice of a person.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
I don't know what that means.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
You either actually you mildly enjoyed me or you fucking
hated me. I don't think anyone loved me.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I love a Twizzler. I love a Twizzler.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
I'm not a twizzler. I'm not black licorice.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
You know what, what's the poll and peal? That shit
was delicious.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I'm a real poland peel of a person. I'll also
ask you this mac, Yeah, what song I guess now, Slash,
then would you use to combat vekna from destroying you
from the inside.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
It's a great question. So then maybe arms wide open,
higher creed. That might not. You need something with a
build right nowadays? It would be like a Noah Kan
type of builds type of a song, which there's several
of that I enjoy very much. So if you watched
my Spotify wrapped, I think, to remain on brand, it

(04:28):
would be Rocky Raccoon in.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
All Errors, Okay, So I would say thank you for
asking me. Yeah right now, it would be Tarzan Boy okay,
because I think he would have fun too. I think
Vena would be like, you know what, maybe I should
stop doing this.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
To everybody eighty song as well.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
And then back then my first album was shaggy, so
maybe it wasn't me go oh mind, it could be
a any thing on my hair.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I don't know. You know you look like Jorma is
so you.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Look oh Yorma tacony. Yeah, oh recently and you can
tell on the show. And I take this, uh this
sweet boufont off that, uh, my hair is a little
bit longer, and that is because my wife has asked
me to grow my hair out like she likes pulling it.
But which of the Jonas brothers has has nice hair?

(05:21):
Nick is in the middle one no next.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Dot and young one that keeps it short. Kevin and
Joe both.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Jo grow my hair out like Joe Jonas, which.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
You are resembling a camp rock Joe Jonas right now.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Some might take that as a slight against themselves, being like,
why do you want me to look like someone else?
I Jonas was married to Sophie Turner. I understand value
my value lower than his. I would understand if my
wife left me for a Jonas brother.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, absolutely, yeah, look at my war I'm in the dirt.
What is he like a seven War Player.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Do you ever see camp Rock?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I've never seen camp Rock?

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Okay, aren't they making a new one? They are making
an one with the Jonas Brothers and Demi Levado.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
My wife is going to the Jonas Brothers show in
the next week or so. So expensive, I mean, by
the new year, this might just be what I look
like and I'm by myself. She has chosen a Jonas
over right.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Kevin Jonas, the middle forgotten brother, just released a single
a couple of months ago. It's first single ever.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Which one ate Cake by the Ocean.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
That's the oldest one. Joe.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
That one's Joe, so he was.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
He was the singer in that band as well, Fun, right,
I think it was. They were called Fun And then
Nick is the younger one, I would argue, the most
talented one. Had a mildly successful solo career so far.
His He says that song Jealous Still get Jealous.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
One? Good?

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Three?

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, John three, King of Queen Street, entertaining, And we
are the Mac and Goo program. We bring you, We
bring you the return of prop comic Goo.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
We have a while. Remember that.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Imagine giving me my own movie and taking away all
I know about comedy.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Remember that like month spand where you're trying to eat
food every episode that was once.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
No, okay, there it was like three episodes in a row. No,
there was one episode. It was our Dumble episode.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Chips.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I can tell you the exact episode. It was our
Dumbo episode. I knew that we had nothing to offer that. Yeah,
I was eating salt and vinegar pop chips, delicious, salt
and vinegar pop chips. If they want to sponsor the show.
I love salt and vinegar.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Pop chips, pro salt and vinegar.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
I would say, salt and vinegar might be my favorite chip.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
No, don't get crazy.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
I'm not being crazy. I am talking not out of school.
I am firmly in my seat in the classroom.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
I would say, for me, it's the sweet chili dorito,
the purple bag dorito, number one on the planet.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Are we counting uh, like flaming hot, Cheetos, Doritos, all
of those?

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Yeah, do you count a funion or in a Cheetos
anything flaming hot?

Speaker 1 (08:13):
That's my number one. Then we go down a little bit.
Salt and vinegar. I love if Cape cod Ever brings back.
There are firecracker barbecue chips. Oh, those are Those were
the best barbecue chips ever made. I will not accept.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Their sweet mosquito.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Their sweet mosquito is not as good though, And all
I can think of while I'm eating, I'm like, I
wish I had firecracker chips right now, come on, Cape
Cod We're from the Bay State area. Yeah, come on,
well we're base Staters.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
If you ask me, yes, i'd agree. That's what they cause.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
So let's start a campaign. That's what this podcast is on.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Now.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
We're on campaigns. Now, yep, we want fire cracker barbecue
chips brought back.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Start the uh what's it called?

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Letter campaign? Everyone? Start the letter campaign.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
It's just like when we didn't want Michael Keaton and
as our batman, we wrote letters to WB and we said,
you never sell. They've sold multiple times since. I'm glad
was Batman.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
I'm glad you brought up campaigns because we are rejoining
finally our decade long campaign speaking strangers campaigns.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Yeah, our Dungeons and Dragons campaign next year or so
might be out. It was too long.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
It was too much of a Now I understand why
stranger things it takes so long to come out.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Wow. My favorite question from my wife recently. Yeah, she
asked me, did you know that Stranger Things is based
off Dungeons and Dragons? What did you say to her, Like, well,
I wouldn't say that it's based off dungeons and dragons.
It's heavily influenced by Dungeons and dragons.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Yeah. Yeah, the movie Dungeons and Dragons just based off dungeons, And.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
It's influenced by the nostalgia of the Duffer Brothers for
the eighties and now. And I watched a video recently
of like we are now in a circle of people
nostalgia for the first season of Stranger Things because it's
been ten years.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Dude, I don't want to I'm gonna look it up
here because I don't want to misspeak here. But I
find it curious that the Duffer brothers are so enamored
by the eighties when I'm pretty sure they're the same
age as us. I think they're thirty six years old.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, I love the nineties.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Oh no, they're they're older.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Okay, they're forty thirty forty ah, okay, forty.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
All right, I'll give them a little bit more leeway there.
That's fair. That's fair.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
It's the brightness, it's the color palette. It's none of
the bad stuff from the eighties.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
I mean, it's some of the bad stuff from the eighties.
It's the eighties Season three with the mall stuff in
the late.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
No I'm saying, like, you know, epidemics and stuff.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Oh oh sure, okay, yeah, the war against drugs you know,
you know.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Really drugs aids.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Today, folks, we are here to discuss the first volume
of Stranger Things Season five that will be released ultimately
in three volumes. This a second batch with three episodes
and then the series finale. Like I just alluded to,
we began our campaign with Stranger Things way back on
July fifteenth, twenty sixteen. This is the tenth year of

(11:10):
Stranger Things in our Lives, tenth year we've been doing
this podcast, so it's sort of aligned with us beginning
a podcast as well.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
No credit to us. We did not cover season one
at the time, and I don't think you ever did.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
We covered season two, and I think just talked about season.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Already to the party.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
We talked about it a lot throughout our younger days goog.
Volume one of season five hit Netflix on November twenty sixth,
Again four episodes. Volume two is dropping Christmas morning, so
that's a nice present to us. All that no one's
gonna be able to watch for two days.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Is Santa leaving it under our tree.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
That'll be episodes five, six, and seven of the eight
episode season. The finale, Part three. Volume three will be
hitting us New Year's Eve. And I really hate that
release schedule number one. I don't mind the spacing of it,
but the drama saying that stinks.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
We say that, but I think the numbers on their
Volume one Thanksgiving drop were fucking banana lands.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
So maybe maybe it took it ended up taking me
a week to get around.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
You a week because you're out there having four Christmases.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
No, because I'm a normal human being. Uh good. Stranger
Things is a TV M, a drama, horror, mystery, thriller.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Things, And you're wondering what rating is on Netflix.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Uh good. Here's some sub genres and it's a lot
coming of age, dark, fantasy, fantasy, epic, monster, horror, psychological drama,
sci fi, epic, supernatural fantasy, supernatural horror, teen horror. And
what I will say about Stranger Things is when it
is at its best, it's all of those things. And
it's all those things to the end.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
And a little bit of comedy and a little.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Bit of comedy, sure, yep. And when it's at its worst,
it's like lazily trying to shoehorn all those things.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Well, when it's at its worst to me is when
they're trying to fill an episode order, when they're trying
to fill a certain amount of time, and it just
starts to stack on top of each other of we're
saying the same shit over and over again.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
To that point, gut and this first volume, it took
me pretty much to the end of the fourth episode
to fully get back in and buy back into this world.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
I was tired. I was tired watching it. And we
got it all the way back in there, but we
haven't gotten new episodes in two years. In the first
three episodes, wow, three years ago, three and a half years. Well,
I do enjoy. And my favorite character from the new
season is Holly, but I think that's because we haven't
you know, had her. Yeah, she's no, she's new. So
you're like, oh, what, like, what is the story with Yeah,

(13:47):
well they've had it. Yeah, But either way, I'm watching it,
I'm like, I'm bored. I'm getting bored because it's the
same stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, And to your point, also, she'son four dropped in
May of twenty twenty, and in our real world time
it's been ten years. In Hawkins it's been four years.
So there's also a little bit of a disconnect between
how old the kids look and how they're old they're
actually supposed to be, and that's something they just can't
get around Ku. The first volume of season five totals

(14:16):
two hundred and seventy one minutes, that's four and a
half hours, and the fourth episode, the finale of volume one,
was essentially a movie. Our remaining run times are seventy
seven minutes, fifty eight minutes, ninety seven minutes, and one
hundred and twenty one minutes, so we basically have three
movies left in this I.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Also love whenever there's some kind of like a battle
and there's a newer character on the field, one of
our aging superstars will stand in front of them and
they're like, I'm a main character, don't worry, nothing can
happen to me. Plot Armor, the amount of times that
Mike stood in front of someone being like, don't worry,
I got this. Finn Wolfard I am sorry, but please.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
I'm hoping for in this next volume that that goes
away and we start to lose characters of significance. I
don't have faith that's gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
I hope we should have lost at least one.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Are we in spoilers, Let's lay like five minutes until
let's go through this whole nuts and bolts.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
I'm gonna set my clock, so go ahead, go.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
In total, this season is gonna end up being ten
and a half hours. It's a lot of content. I
don't know if this is real or if this counts,
but we have roddy Te's and Metacritics scores. I don't
know if these people were viewing it, have seen everything,
if they got screeners, or if they're just reviewing it.
On half of the season. On roddy Tea's we're at
eighty four percent from the critics, eighty three percent from
the audience. It's a little bit lower than the prior

(15:37):
four seasons. Understandably, this is take a long time coming.
On Metacritic though, a seventy one the four seasons prior
or seventy six, seventy eight, seventy two, sixty nine, so
it's sort of operating in the in the same way.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
A lot of it looks really really good. There is
some stuff like I think the Dema Gorgans look really clunky.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Now maybe just there's more on screen. I don't know.
I don't don't really agree with you, but I'm not
gonna I'm not gonna fight you on that. Of course,
this sort series was created by Matt and Ross Stuffer.
They've really made their name and staked their claim.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
I want to give them complete credit because we saw
this with the Game of Thrones boys, where they're like,
we want to go do Star Wars. We're gonna rush
through this. The Duffers like, this is our baby, Yeah,
we really do want We are gonna do this with love, care, kids, gloves.
We're gonna end it the way we want. Now, we're

(16:31):
gonna do spinoffs.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Here's a question for you. And to that point, obviously,
Game of Thrones stumbled to the finish line the last
couple of seasons. Who knows, maybe Stranger Things does that
as well. But if it doesn't and it lands the
plane in spectacular fashion, where do you would you have
Stranger Things like all time?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
I don't know, because I don't think it.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Can get into the top two.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
I think think the large breaks between seasons it has
for sure, maybe because I think a rewatch of this
is gonna be weird because the actors are so true
talent wise, they're all different age of course, they've aged
ten years, but like some of the actors have become
really good actors, some of them stayed the same.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, I'd say Finnwolfard and Millie Bobby Brown clearly have
like taken themselves to another level, and everyone else is
just kind of there.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
But I also think that the character of eleven, it
is what it is. She is what you need.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Yeah, no, you're you're right about that.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Goo synopsis for season five, Season one to eleven.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I'll take that all right.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
I want to borrow this.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
It's November nineteen eighty seven, and the Gang is trying
to hunt down and kill Vecna after the upside Down
breaches Howkins, leading to military lockdown and intensifying searches for eleven. Meanwhile,
Holly Wheeler has become a target. Henry Kreole's origins are revealed,
and Will's growing connection to the Upside Down becomes crucial. Essentially,

(18:02):
it's your classic sort of begin the story with the
group fractured in a part and they have to come together,
unite and defeat Vecna. We're probably halfway through that point now.
They're just kind of starting to team up. I think
in this fifth episode the next episode will get we'll
see them kind of come together, except for maybe Hopper
and eleven. We're starting to learn more about Vecna's plan

(18:27):
with the twelve kids and trying to understand that. We'll
get into that more in a couple of minutes. The
military and government's involvement is also mildly confusing. I don't
know what their endgame is either, and we don't have
answers on that.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Did we just stumble into this? So the release schedule,
it's a holiday release schedule. The next set comes out
on Christmas. Twelve Kids, twelve Days of Christmas. That's not
the song, No, it's not. It's just Christmas cartle dubs,
Lord's a leap.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Oh you wanted me to sing? Yeah, that would have
made sense.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Yeah, ladies milkin, that's all I got.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah. Oh no, I wanted to say scrambled.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Cartridge And did you say scrambled eggs?

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yeah, it would fit five scramble egg We'll.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Ask you when you go to make scrambled eggs, how
many eggs do you put in the bowl?

Speaker 2 (19:16):
I don't. I usually do over medium these days, sometimes
over easy.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
That's how many eggs?

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Though? Four? I'm four. I'm a four boy too, aforeg guy.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
If I noticed that there's a weird odd number, or
because I like to always save my wife at least
two eggs, sure, I'll be like, I'll take five this time.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Well that like if carton you can buy a carton,
you get three meals out of it, four eggs each meal, right, so.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
It just makes sense you should find eighteen at a time.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
That's good on you. So you get six meals or no, no,
you get four and a half meals.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Four and a half meals.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Go This show stars. Originally it was tabbed as why
Not a Rider's Show? Why Not a Rider? As Joyce
Spier's David Harber's Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfart is Mike Wheeler,
Millie Bobby Brown is Eleven. Cayton Modarazzo is Dustin Henderson,
Caleb Gloughlin as Lucas and Clair. Natalia Dyer is Nancy Wheeler.
Charlie Heaton is Jonathan Byers, Joe Krus, Steve Harrington knows
Snap as Will Buyers. Also, through the years and through

(20:09):
the seasons, we've gotten Cara Buono as We're almost.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Well, that's spoil. I can't believe it when I'll believe that.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Kara Buono as Karen Wheeler, U Sweet Hachi Machi there
Sadie Sik is Max Mayfield, Pria Ferguson as Eric Sinclair,
Joe Crest as Ted Wheeler, Maya Hawk is Robin Buckley,
Brett Gellman as Murray Bauman, Jamie Campbell Bauer as Vechna Slash,
Henry Creele, Randy Havens is mister Clark. I'm gonna save

(20:40):
that one in Red Goo. And then newcomers to season
five kind of, we have Nel Fisher as Holly Wheeler.
That character was previously played by a much younger actress
or twins Tinsley and Aniston Price. And I think she's
supposed to be two seasons ago, she looked like she
was four years old. Now she looks like she's ten.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
Now she looks like she's the age of the kids
when they were in season one.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Yeah, so there's a little bit of an issue there,
but whatever, I guess we'll get past it. They cast
Linda Hamilton as doctor k Here and this is something, yeah,
a little distracting. I don't know if it's too much
makeup or if she's her face just looks like that
these days. I don't love it. Wait, yeah, Alex bro
as Lieutenant Robert Akers. I believe that's the guy that

(21:24):
Hopper and eleven have chained up in this first part
of the season. And then our our new star of
the show, Goo Jake Conley is Derek Turnbow. The internet
loves this kid.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
This kid's the best.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
He's great.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Oh my god, this room smells like ass plus all
my farts rules.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
We would be remiss if we didn't honor those we've
lost before we move on. Here, Goo, I'd like to
pay homage to doctor Montgomery as Billy Hargrove. We lost
him at the end of season three. Matthew Modan as
doctor Martin Brenner, we lost him in season four. Paul
Risers doctor Sam Owens. I think we also lost him
in season four. Sean asked it as Bob Numy. Nuby

(22:04):
met his demise at the end of season two, and
of course Joseph Quinn and a one off season uh
in season four as Eddiemundson, we lost him as well,
and a lot of our characters are still dealing with
the loss of Eddie, most notably Dustin.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Where is Barb?

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Yeah, I guess r I p Barb too, Maybe she's
still active? If good. Before we get any further, it
became U asked a parent to everyone.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Thank you for putting this in the notes.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
I forgot And this is really bothersome.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
It is watching any like, I'm watching recap recap videos
and this these fucking dickheads.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
The Duffer brothers also wrote a stage play, a Broadway
play that is cannon to the show and.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Means a lot in this scene and they're like, this
is crucialm Like, I have no idea what the fuck
you're doing?

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Seen it? No one's seen it, dude. So it's called
Stranger Things The First Shadow. It's a prequel stage play
that explores the origins of the series and Hawkins, but
most importantly, it focuses on Henry Krele, a young Henry
Crele high school age Henry Crele in how basically Vecna
came to be and also in that story and who

(23:18):
went to high school with Henry is Joyce, Jim and Bob.
Apparently there's a lot of information and a lot of
filling in gaps in this stage play for a Netflix show.
That is ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Let me ask you this, would you rather it be
a stage play, a book, a video game, or a zine.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
At least I'd have access to a video game. I
ain't reading a book. That's for fucking shore, so also
not reading a magazine. They should have released the stage
play on video on Netflix. If you're gonna tell me
that in one of the longest running television shows in
the last twenty five years, that a stage play was

(23:59):
gonna be in to your series finale, I would say,
your show fucking sucks. Unfortunately, we're deep in here. We
just have to accept what we're getting, so I think
this is bullshit. Luckily, there are videos out there explaining
what happens in recaps that can round out what's really
going on in Hawkins and with Vecna, but that is

(24:20):
weak Sauce. I really, I really don't care for that.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
As soon as they were telling me this, I'm like
that field I thought that I just forgot. I was like, oh,
maybe they showed us this, and I'm it's been a
long time. I'm stupid.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
Like when we get the reveal in season four that
one Henry is Vecna, it's huge, it's massive, And when
we get a little bit of a background with his family,
and then I think they realized, oh shit, we have
a lot to do in season five and we can't
spend time with flashbacks. So they made a fuck They
were a stage place.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
To be fair, though, they do have enough time to
cut out some of the fluff and put flashbacks.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
I don't know. I don't know if they do, but
I want to.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Okay, regardless, I don't.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
I don't like that they did this.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
It's a long season, it is. There's a lot of
shit going on. The first two episodes could have just
been the stage.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Play, especially episode two. Episode two is a lot of
a continuation of what we see in one, But I digress.
Let's get the spoilers spoilers. First things First, spoiler spoiler
SPOILERSH So.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
The Duffer brothers have been talking a lot about how
they really want Vecna powers wise and U or uh
feel like Darth Vader. Do you think they are setting
this up for at the end of this show. Vecna,
much like how Anakin Skywalker at the end of Jedi

(25:40):
is a hero. Again, Vecna is the hero of this story.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
So I don't think they are. I think they're using
Vader imagery, specifically that Rogue one scene which they've referenced
in which we see in episode four, which was great.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
I was kind of unimpressed by it, But go ahead,
all right.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
We'll go fuck yourself. I think that's the easy way out.
If Henry is the answer to our equation, that's the
easy way out.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
That would be the lazy writing. I wanted to get
for something more than that. It isn't who is the
big bag, But that's a.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Big question we have mind.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Claire.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Yeah, yeah, So let's let's run through the four episodes
here and then we'll finish with our questions and thoughts
and predictions. Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
Chapter one of Billy's not dead. He's been in the
back the entire time. He was in the back Superman video,
He's in the back.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Chapter one, the Crawl, we get that opening flashback sequence
with Will getting captured and brought into the upside down.
I didn't like the look of the CGI was tough
in this.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Admittedly, I also don't care for them jamming a tentacle
into a young boy's mouth.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Not for me, speaking of Michael Jackson. Uh Ku, it's
November nineteen eighty seven now in Hawkins. Uh they the
crew is preparing for one of Hopper's crawls. This is
his missions into the upside Down to map it as
they look for vena hunt down Vecna. We see that
Hawkins is under military lockdown. The conclusion of Or season four,

(27:09):
we see Hawkins sort of get split open and sort
of kind of becomes one with the Upside Do you.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Agree with me that too many of these kids are
now egons and there should be more of like a
lack of knowledge about certain things, and because they all know.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Because they've been on the forefront of it.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
All, but they're all still children.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Yeah, I get that, But they've been on the forefront
with it. They know more than anyone.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
So I think it should be like one of them
is really good with the technology, one of them is
really good with the lore of the upside down, one
of them, but they're all good at all of it.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
That's not true.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
That's pretty true.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
They work well together, but they're not all good at everything.
They make a good team go. They're like the two
thousand and three Detroit Pistons.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
One might have a slight spike in something over the other,
but they are all pretty good at everything outside of will.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Well not anymore. Additional, on top of the lockdown, the
military also has a massive presence inside the upside Down,
so that's a really big thing that's going on. We
see eleven's training montage that culminates in them breaking into
the facility. This episode goes out of its way to
really highlight Hally Wheeler, the youngest of the Wheeler kids,

(28:21):
and basically makes her our main character for the season.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
They also by having her ride her bike, so they
show that she's old enough to do this, and she
rides up next to Mike being like she's equal to
them now yep.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
And then Mike also hands her her D and D
little trinket character thing says that her character would be
a cleric, which I'm sure is foreshadowing for what's going
to happen in the second half of the season. You
and I, as D and D experts, obviously know what
all that entails. We also get a couple of references
with Hally's outfits bedroom and her own references. She's reading

(28:57):
A Wrinkle in Time relates relates what is going ell
moon Light relates what's going on in think her world
to A Wrinkle in Time, which a movie I couldn't
get through, a book that is very popular though. We

(29:17):
also have references in thematically, very much like one of
goose favorites, an American tale featuring your boy fivel And
there's also a lot of rainbow bright stuff going on here,
which a lot of the Internet has picked up on,
and thematically those stories align a lot with what's happening
with Holly. We get introduced to Linda Hamilton hit Now,
who is the doctor that is heading whatever the hell

(29:38):
the military is doing inside the upside Down, like just
a clear one note bad guy. I don't really care
for what she's been doing so far, but it is
what it is. We get introduced to Will's power or yeah,
curse is a good word for it. He can see
through Vecna in the Dema Gorgan's eyes, so we get

(30:00):
kind of some cool shots of what's going on via Will.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
So he's a part of the hive mind. Yes, he
is also able to see through the eyes of the
next victim.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's sort of like a minority report situation.
Good we see which I think is really just to
motivate Will. Will sees Robin doing a little hanky panky
with Vicky in the hospital, and I think that's to
establish their connection, so we get that it's a little
like all right whatever.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Also, Robin talks a lot.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Robin talks a lot.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Robin talks a lot.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeah. Yeah. And then the other big thing of note
here is the demo Organs. I guess can now just
pop in and out of portals all over Hawkins and
back in and out of the upside down. Maybe it's
Vecna really doing it for him, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
They also Vecna keeps on calling Slash for his move.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Chapter two, The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler, we see Lucas
visiting Max in the hospital. He's still utilizing Kate Butch,
and later on in this episode we see that, or
maybe in two episodes. I think it's not until episode
four we see that it's still having effect. She almost
can get back to reality with it. The Demagorgans nearly
kill the Wheelers. They do, they kill the father.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
I still okay, so both of them are critical yet
stable Okay. My issue here, yeah, is you gotta kill one,
if not both of them with this. And if you're saying, well,
just kill the dad, he is of no consequence. I
think killing the mother would have really put some steaks

(31:31):
on there. I think almost more than any of the
other debts in the past, because that would have really
pushed the Wheelers into we need to move this along.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
So here's here's why I think ultimately, after thinking about it,
I think they didn't because immediately after gou Hally's unaffected
by what happened. So if you would have killed off
her parents and then shown her being on it wouldn't
have made sense.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Taken when the mother was still on the ground black.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
I understand, but like, if you kill them and then
how the character not be affected by it, it would have
been bad.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Well, then she could have done one of these. That's
all the good guys.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
We also see here that apparently the demo Gorgan's only
weakness is a broken wine bottle, because they face waves
of bullets and are pretty unaffected by it.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
But I don't know what the missus.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
Wheeler wielding a broken wine bottle, I guess injures.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
It because it also it's not just it's bullets and
guns in the upside down and in the inside out
in the so like.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Living the Vita Loco over there, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Living the Vita Loca. The skin's the color mocha.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
We get a lot of Eleven and Hopper in the
upside Down in this episode, really spending a lot of
time with them. We get to that big wall in
the upside Down, which Dustin later figures out is actually
a circle a perimeter to the upside down Hawkins. We
get more of Robin helping out Will with his visions
and his self worth, and then the reveal at the

(32:57):
end of this episode that is mister Watson is actually
had recreal which are the worst like worst kept secret.
I think in All Stranger Things, we kind of all
saw that chapter three, the Turnbow Trap. This is where
they come up with the trap to capture Uh, the
Dema gorgan Uh. This episode was actually directed by Frank Darabant,
the director of The Green Isle and Showshank Redemption. I

(33:17):
believe he's directing another one of the final four episodes.
So that's a little fun fact.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
That they destroyed that house.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
They did fucking destroy the shit out of there. We
see now now that Holly's been captured, Holly is in Vecna's.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Mind, yeah, and he I don't know where her.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Body is physically though.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
So her body is in the upside down, but I
don't think it is. I think I think she's attached.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
So this is where it gets a little confusing. You
have Vecna's mind and the upside down, and they aren't
tangibly connected, but because of Vecna can sort of do
what he wants, they are connected. So like Max exists
in Vecna's you know, mind plane area, but she's not
in the upside down.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Her body is in the hospital.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Yeah, but Holly also exists where Vecna's mind is, but
she probably is in the upside down, right, So I
don't really understand that there's a disconnect there for me,
And now I wonder if it's because Max technically died,
so it's there's a little bit of leeway there. But
that's like kind of a weird thing.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
And then so do you believe that he is giving
her her favorite music so that he can now grow
immune to that and fight through it when they're getting
strength through what they love.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Because Henry Krele learns from his mistakes, so maybe it's possible.
I think I think it's a good fan theory. For sure.
We get Max, we come to find out as Max
leaving the note for Holly. Holly follows that note red
riding hood style to the cave. We get Hopper and
Eleven doing more upside down stuff. We also start to

(34:53):
see Will having a little bit more control over his
visions and minority reporting some of these appearances, and Robin
is continuing to empower him. That becomes obviously very powerful
in episode four. And then Derek Turnbou is just an
absolute delight. He is. He is the perfect influx of
this childish like they did it a little bit with Holly,

(35:14):
which helps too, but Turnbow is a great infusion into
this season. I've really enjoyed what he's given us so far.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
You can smell how stinky that room probably is.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
Uh good. Chapter four Sorcerer aptly named for I guess.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Will now at the end of chapter three, that's when
we get the reveal that Max is in the upside down. Correct.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
I thought it was at the beginning of four either way, Yeah,
it might have been at the end of three. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
This season really lacked on the impactful reveals. I thought
when Max showed up and like, well, they could only
been like three or four different nice.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Because it was good. It was like, all right, I
maybe would have been Max, but it's nice that, all right,
we got Max back. So we open episode four, Joice
and the kids at the barn. This is where Will
kind of controls the Denver Gorgan and then the Denver
Gorgan doesn't kill everyone. Joyce is swinging the acts around there.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
You have to get through me first.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
The military presence.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Chill Joyce. That would have been something that could have
worked because that also that's right after Will had starting
disobeying his mother. Yeah, so that would have showed him like,
you do what your mama tells you. That's what missus Bouchet.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Taught all the kids. Watching the military presence.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
That punched you in the face. It broke out of
the zoo.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
The military presence is intensifying in both The Upside Down
and in Hawkins. They're quarantining all of the kids. This
is where Derek Turnbull becomes the double agent here, which
is a really nice setup where they're ushering the kids
down the tunnel and the whole mister Watson thing. We
finally learn what happened to Max and what Max has

(36:50):
been up to what she's been experiencing, which is I
think there's a lot of runway to deal with this here,
because we're trying to figure out how ultimately we're going
to defeat Vecna first and foremost before maybe we get
to a bigger thing. And she's able to like kind
of jump through his memories, right, So there's is that

(37:10):
how they're gonna kind of fuck with time.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
She's also hiding in a cavern in his mind.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Yeah, that he's afraid to go into that.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
He's so that's where the mind flavor got him. Yeah,
he's afraid to go back in there.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Right, So there's something obviously that's gonna happen in and
around that cave and with Max. We just don't know
what yet. Will's utilizing his newfound vision to help, you know,
sort of combat Vecna. I still don't quite understand why
he needs twelve kids. There's a clock theme. We see
a lot of clocks. The Internet has also brought up

(37:42):
that Jesus had twelve apostles. Well did you know that too?

Speaker 1 (37:45):
That the twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas Day
and not the twelve days leading up to Christmas.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
Like, I thought, that can't be right, is that true?

Speaker 1 (37:54):
I just researched it yesterday because my son got it
was a twelve days of Christmas advent calendar. I forgot
to get on the twenty four day one sure, and
I'm like, oh, let's start this on the thirteenth. Let
me just see what other twelve days leading up. And
it's like, no, you started on the twenty fifth, and
then you go through January fifth. Okay, that's just in
time for a little Christmas, all right?

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Sure I did. Anon Christmas, everyone learns something new today.
We get Mike Lucas and Robin obviously coordinating that escape
from the quarantine zone. There, we learn a little bit
about Henry Kreole's past and that cave and what happened,
and we see true horror in his face.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
We don't need to see that. We saw the stage play.
We know that. Well, that's such bullshit.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Yeah, it's it's I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
That would be like us telling you that. It's like
we just start doing it like an episode with all
these inside jokes, and we're like, oh, that's from the
unreleased episode that we did last week.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Yeah, we did a live podcast that you can't now
go back and see, right, but didn't someone someone that
was there can tell you about.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
The five people that were at the brewery watching us
do it. They get it. Maybe they can tell you
about it. Write them a letter. Go.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
The first reveal we get here in episode four is
Hopper and eleven finally infiltrate this military base inside the
upside Down and we're like, oh shit, is Vecna behind
this door that they teased her?

Speaker 1 (39:19):
I did not say, oh shit, don't put words in
my mouth.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Well, we're like, what's behind the door. Show me what's
behind the door.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
I'm saying. We're like, no, you're like this, And.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
It's revealed to be Cali Goo eight eight, who we
last saw I believe in episode seven of season two.
She was, you know, this X Men spin off type
of character that built a little bit more lore about
the lab and all the kids in.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
The m I swear to Christ if they end this
story by having children hold hands and use their powers
together to defeat.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
The bad guy, like Captain Planet.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
Like Captain Planet, or like Deadpool and Wolverine did jokingly
at the end of their movie. Well, Goo, I ain't
gonna be happy.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
The one thing that everyone's been pretty locked into before
the season even started is that in Dungeons and Dragons
you need to roll on a natural twenty A two
zero to defeat Vecna.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
I've played Dungeons and Dragons, I know the rules.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
We have eleven, we now have eight. That's nineteen. Who's
the one and there's a number of possibilities here, but
we have the eight, So clearly she's gonna play a
part in defeating Vecna and go. If you remember, her
powers are basically like she could cause people to see
things that aren't there. It's like hallucinogen type of powers
are different than eleven, so maybe she can confuse Vecna.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
What I'm hoping for is at the end of the season,
one of the children has to kill one of the
other children, So okay, I would like for eleven or
Will to be responsible for killing the other one and
that's how they save the world.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
There's gonna be something interesting there because the one, which
we'll get to in a minute, there's three or four
candidates for who's gonna be the.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
One, but it has to be someone that's been on
the show for all five seasons. You can't just be
could be maxed Okay, so Max is the possibilities. He's
been on the show long enough. Let's say, has who
have been on the show for at least three seasons. Well,
it could be Holly, don't know, do not make it.
It's either Max, Holly or Mike. If it is Holly
or Henry, it could be Henry. If it's Holly, I'm
calling Shenanigan.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
It's Holly, Max, Mike or Henry. Those are your only possibilities.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Why would I give a shit about Henry? I agree,
but I would call him.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
It's possible.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
I'd call him Hank.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
He'd fucking he'd fucking uh.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
I go like this, I'd throw my hand in his
face and be like, I'm kind of like Professor X,
just like that person over there.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
In the right side, in the right side up at
the military base in quarantine. Here, all these demigore aids
and demo dogs arrive and they're attacking.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
The challenge everybody, but doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
They're killing everyone that don't matter.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Yeah, cops said they don't match the demo. Gorgan's in
there and they say, wait, are you essential to the plot?
I will let you live at least three more episodes.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
And then actually we get a little bit of a
hold on stuff here. The Demogorgans are starting to lose.
We get a lot of guns, a lot of ammunition,
and then what happens. Vecna comes through the portal and
calls them all up Cane style. He revives all of them.
They're all back alive again. And then he goes out
of his way to like shit on Will. He's like,
I I'm so strong because I was feeding off of

(42:26):
your weakness, you bitch.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
You know what I would have done if I was Vena,
I would have came through the portal slowly and with
a limp. I would have then done a somersault and
popped up Willy Wonka style.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
H Vecna kills a couple of soldiers spectacularly. The the
fingers through the back of the head was pretty cool.
He's also armored up and powered up. He's more powerful
than the last time we sewish.

Speaker 1 (42:52):
He's very grudish.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
Yeah, and then more importantly, Goo the I don't know
X amount of kids that they had saved. Vecta takes
all these kids into the upside down. So he's got
all the twelve kids as he needs to do whatever
the fuck he's gonna do. And then we finished this
episode go with Debi Gorgans getting ready to kill some
of the characters we love, Joyce, Mike, and Robin.

Speaker 1 (43:14):
But Mike Will get behind me. I'm gonna save you.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Will in spectacular fashion, snaps the demic Gorgans the way
Vecna did to his victims in season four. Will finally
gets a good moment he hadn't had any in four seasons,
gets a real good moment for his character. We don't
know exactly what he can do. It obviously isn't gonna
be the same as eleven, but he is connected to
this you know, upside down dimension in the mind flare,

(43:38):
and has been since season two.

Speaker 1 (43:39):
And if he is, do they then see him as
being a problem. If they so, let's say, at the
end of these next three episodes, we get rid of Vecna,
but at the end of the part two finale they
find out like, oh no, Will could stumble into being
the same thing.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
I think that could be awesome.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
That's what the complete finale, the one that's going to
be in the movie theaters. It's we now need to
kill our friend, but it's possible.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
It's possible, and I think that would be better than.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
I'm sorry, we now need to un alive our friend.
I don't want to get demonetized to YouTube.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
Do your point.

Speaker 1 (44:17):
If you are listening to the podcast right now, turn
it off, go to YouTube, smash that subscribe button, give
us a thumbs up like it. Go through all the videos.

Speaker 2 (44:26):
Do that before we move on to some theories here.
I thought it was really funny that the internet proposed
what was going to happen if there was a fourth
Dema Gorgan there? Because we saw a hand hand head.
So what will was gonna have to use as cock
to kill the fourth one?

Speaker 1 (44:39):
I think you go foot foot then cock, Well.

Speaker 2 (44:42):
You'd have to levitate. Maybe I don't know. Ni, I'm
not sure it was visceral. I understand why they did it,
but it did add some complications. Uh, go to your
point here, and this is what you brought up at
the beginning. And I don't know why you hate it
so much, since you're the one that sort of implied it.
If they go Darth Vader and Anakin ending, that means
Henry's going to be the one. Henry's going to be

(45:02):
the one that adds to the nineteen to make it twenty.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
I don't have any connection to Henry. I don't give up.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
I agree with you, but that that's gonna be the
natural path, the path of least resistance is going to
be that, and I don't want that. But they may be.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
Going down that hill one of the children.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
Well, that might happen as well, but it might take
Henry separating from Vecna. I don't know. I hope that
doesn't happen, but there's a distinct possibility it happened.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
No, who has to kill Will go on it right now?

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Why? No? No, rider, that's for sure not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (45:34):
No, Okay, here we go, Will kills er I.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
That's more likely to happen, but it's not gonna happen.
Neither of those two are gonna happen. H I think
what we might see happen is Vecna possessed Will and
Will kill someone by mistake.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
So maybe that happens and the kids say, now we
have to kill him, and then when they go to
kill him, Will's actually no, it's still me.

Speaker 2 (45:58):
I'm still Will.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
Don't care.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
We have several questions left here the whole who's going
to be the one. No question, I've solved this. It's Max, Holly,
Henry or Will. When it comes to Max and Holly,
are either of them going to exit Vecna's mind with abilities?

Speaker 1 (46:17):
I hope not. I don't want all of these children
to have abilities.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
I think it's a possibility.

Speaker 1 (46:22):
It's a possibility, but I don't want it.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
It seems like to me, if Max escapes, Lucas is
going to sacrifice himself to save Max. And I also
think we're setting up for Steve to sacrifice himself to
save Nancy and Jonathan.

Speaker 1 (46:36):
No one has aged like Lucas's sister. It look a
completely different part. It is true because she was a fan.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
She's like an adult.

Speaker 1 (46:46):
I learned this on The Cosby Show last week. There
was an episode where Doctor Huxtable puts something weird in
the barbecue sauce.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
Uh. He wrote it from real life? Is weird? Weird?

Speaker 1 (46:59):
Because he delivered babies, right, isn't that thing? I don't know,
I don't I'm pretty sure that was his thing. And
he also worked from home.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
Yeah, home bathtub deliveries. Kude. This cave that Max and
Holly are currently in clearly is gonna matter somehow. I
don't know how it's gonna manifest itself, but that is
some sort of shield against Vecna. So that's gonna play
into this. What is the government slash military using Cali for.
I don't quite understand what they were using. Maybe they

(47:32):
just were keeping her captured, but more likely they were
utilizing her or her powers for something, and I don't
know what that might be.

Speaker 1 (47:40):
I also feel like the whole government thing, all of
the military. It almost feels like, how for a while
you had that secondary story with Hopper and the USSR.
I feel like all of that stuff isn't gonna matter
and it's just a waste of our time.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Well, we are setting up for a three tier to
two here, right, So I think volume two is going
to conclude in some sort of way where you have
Holly and Max fighting Vecna in his mind, you have
whoever's in the upside Down fighting in the upside down,
and then you have the people still in Hawkins. That
feels like it's clearly gonna come to a head at
the end of the second volume, so that might result

(48:18):
in Vecna getting defeated, and then we have another boss,
maybe the mind Flare. There's definitely something like that that's
gonna be going on. I think if it's just Vecna's
the final big bad, so be it. But if you
want to use your Darth Vader analogy again, the Emperor
was above Darth Vader, right, so there could be something
else at play, still sort of controlling Vecna. However, it

(48:40):
could be that Vecna has gotten so powerful enough that
he now controls the mind flare. I don't know. I
don't know. There's so that's probably the biggest mystery we
have going forward here.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
You know what I wouldn't mind is if at the
end of the next three episodes they've defeated everybody and
the final episode is just like everyone happily getting back
to life.

Speaker 2 (48:58):
Would just two hours of them living in nineteen eighty seven, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:01):
Like, I don't mind that, Goid.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
My first vehicle, you'll remember it well, was a nineteen
eighty seven Mercury Grand Marquis.

Speaker 1 (49:09):
I also had a Grand Marquee.

Speaker 2 (49:11):
How about that.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
It also might have it was not eighty. It might
have been like eighty.

Speaker 2 (49:15):
You had the round body. Yours was a little nicer.

Speaker 1 (49:17):
You're thinking of my green I think so, yeah, because
I also my my first car was a was a
New Yorker Chrysler. What was it?

Speaker 2 (49:26):
I think most of those long sedan's all pretty much had.

Speaker 1 (49:29):
This long burgundy car and the inside it pretty much burgundy.
It had like couches in it.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
Yes, the back I could fit fifteen people in my
back seat.

Speaker 1 (49:38):
It was the I loved that car.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
So the two biggest things going forward here.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
Comment down below? What was your first car?

Speaker 2 (49:45):
I don't know if Vecna really is our big bad
This is what everyone's wondering. I don't know how Cali
has been being used. If she's gonna flip. I think
there's a chance she's bad. That might be happening. Right.

Speaker 1 (49:57):
What if we find out that Vecna and all the
up side down stuff and all the military they're all
the good guys, and all the people that we like
they're all the shitheads. They're all the bad guys and
they're just in the way.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
That would suck. I'm also curious if there's.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
We find out at the end all the guys that
we like are the bad guys. No one's ever done
that before, right.

Speaker 2 (50:20):
I'm legit. Like I said to start here, you know,
halfway through episode two, I was like, all right, let's
get on with it. But then this conclusion episode four,
I'm like, fuck, they wrote me back in. I'm back in.
I'm intrigued. I want to see what happens. We're dealing
with Jedi stuff here, right. All we need is a
laser sword. It's basically Star Wars.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
You said that you want Dustin to get a lightsaber.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Sure, there should be multiple people with lightsabers.

Speaker 1 (50:46):
I don't think that's a good idea. In this season,
we also get the teacher who has you know, given
us certain plot points as we go along. He discusses wormholes,
which introduces time travel right right, So now we are
thinking that Henry might be doing something to travel back

(51:08):
in time to maybe never deal with the mind flair.

Speaker 2 (51:11):
Yeah, we could be setting up for something like that.
We could be seeing, uh maybe time travel or memory walking.
I guess, for lack of a better term, be weaponized
against Vecta because once again we saw Max go into
a couple of his memories, and I guess, just purely
where Max and Holly are existing right now is like

(51:32):
in Vecna's mind. So I don't know if we're gonna
actually physically time travel. That seems unlikely, but it does
seem like we can maybe go back in Vecna's mind
and change stuff. Maybe Eleven can do that, or maybe
CALLI with her hallucinogen thing can actually make stuff real.
I don't know. I don't know. We don't know how

(51:53):
this is gonna play out. So to their credit, with
as much as we've seen going on as many years
in now ten years, we have no fucking idea.

Speaker 1 (52:01):
Do you think there's any chance that we get a
Sopranos ending? It just cuts the black and we don't
know what happens.

Speaker 2 (52:06):
No less than zero present chance.

Speaker 1 (52:08):
Do you think there's a better chance that we get
a we get an ending that is so confusing that
we just sit back and say, what.

Speaker 2 (52:16):
What would you like to happen? What are you rooting
for to happen?

Speaker 1 (52:19):
Kill the kids? I just told you this. One of
the kids has to kill the other.

Speaker 2 (52:22):
Kids, So you just want chaos. You don't care how
Vecna goes down.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
Either Will needs to kill Eleven or Eleven needs to
kill Will.

Speaker 2 (52:29):
I think this is how I want. I think I
want Lucas to sacrifice himself to save Max so that
Max can do go on and help defeat Vecna. I
think for sure. For sure, we're gonna get Steve sacrificing himself.
That is just gonna be the perfect character arct for Steve.
And then I think alternately they're.

Speaker 1 (52:46):
Gonna do that with Steve, They're gonna kill off Jonathan instead.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
Ultimately, what I think is gonna happen Weazel is because
Hopper has tried to sacrifice himself so many times to
save Eleven and Joyce. I think Eleven is gonna sacrifice
herself to save everyone so that Hopper and Joyce can
live happy.

Speaker 1 (53:02):
Oh you know what's gonna happen. So Steve is gonna die,
and he's gonna die running up that stupid tower because
they've all they've already teased it between the two of
them racing up the tower and then that horrible green
screen you saw that, right, Yeah, that was not a
good looking scene right there.

Speaker 2 (53:17):
So I think I think we lose Lucas, I think
we lose Steve, and we either lose Will or Eleven,
one of the that we're gonna lose at least four.
Obviously Henry or Vecna is gonna die at some point too.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
The show is gonna end. The final scene of the
show is gonna be Holly coughing up a slug? Why
are you laughing? That is gonna be the final scene.

Speaker 2 (53:39):
Being like something.

Speaker 1 (53:42):
Like Stranger More Stranger Things.

Speaker 2 (53:47):
But it does. So they've gone out of their way
to like tell the story through the lens of Holly.
She's obviously gonna matter in the second half of the season, right,
So how does that play out too?

Speaker 1 (53:57):
And we're already getting an animated spinoff? Is it out
of the question that they would try and do five seasons,
say set in the nineties, where you don't need to
pay these really expensive actors anymore, and you just get
a bunch of new kids, possibly, and you just make
Holly the age of her sister and now she's later
in teens.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
Her and Derek Turnbull are two stars.

Speaker 1 (54:17):
Now, yeah, Oh, Derek, he already is a star.

Speaker 2 (54:20):
He's the best, He's already a star. He's great.

Speaker 1 (54:23):
Anything else for the this thing?

Speaker 2 (54:25):
No, I'm I'm energized. I'm re energized about this show.
And I if you had asked me two weeks ago,
I was not very energized about it.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
So I bought a pencil sharpener the other day.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
I don't even know the last time I held a pencil.

Speaker 1 (54:38):
And the sharpener took four double A batteries. Oh, you
bought an electric pencil sharpener, No, a battery powered one.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
I guess that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (54:47):
Yeah, it's very confusing because they wanted you to flip
the batteries a certain way. I'm like, I don't know,
how do you use batteries?

Speaker 2 (54:52):
Are he using colored pencils? Or is it for RAFFI?
For school?

Speaker 1 (54:55):
You know my favorite tool is my battery daddy. It's
a nice case of holding my batteries.

Speaker 2 (55:01):
Sure. Sure, And I have a.

Speaker 1 (55:03):
Lot of batteries now. I don't lose them. I know
where they all are. They're right in the daddy. Let's
get into mac Sack, and mac Sack could be anything.
It could be about and Mac. I've made a horrible decision.

(55:25):
I've made a bad choice.

Speaker 2 (55:27):
I can't say I disagree as much as I enjoy
the hobby of collecting Pokemon cards. Gu you have made
a bad decision.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Now, I am not collecting for myself. Right, But my
son last couple of weeks has been saying I really
want to collect Pokemon cards.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
And he is at the age where that shit is
very intriguing.

Speaker 1 (55:49):
Right, And I said to myself, this seems like a
fun hobby that we can do together, and I only
have so many more years before he hates it. So
I need to do this for as long as possible,
and usually whatever his interest is, I bone up on it.

(56:10):
I learn as much as possible. I can have as
many conversations with him as possible. I know so much
about kpop demon hunters. Mystery is the one with the
hair that covers his eyes. Sure romance pink hair. Care
to quiz me on any more Saja boys.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
No, I don't know anything about them.

Speaker 1 (56:26):
Not usually pops open. So it shows us. Abs Gina
was the leader of the Saja Boys. Right, of course
there's another one.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
But back to this, the Joey fotone of the Sasha Boys.

Speaker 1 (56:39):
So once again I am. I said, Okay, I'm gonna
do this. I'm gonna jump in feet first. No, I
dove in head first. I made it. I spent a
lot of money because you have to. If you're gonna
buy these, and you want to buy them at retail price,
you need to chase down the vendors when they go
to big box stores.

Speaker 2 (56:59):
It is very, very hard to accumulate Pokemon cards at MSRP.

Speaker 1 (57:03):
But no one is at target at seven am more
than may.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
You have been on several drops. That has helped myself,
helped Chris Shime, and now it's gonna help you.

Speaker 1 (57:12):
That is because my gym is right next to a target.
I can pop in the right before the gym and
right after the gym if need be, and I did.
I caught the vendor, got my son there in Pokemon cards.
I'm gonna give it to him though, like for Christmas,
he'll get a couple. Yes, everything else is in the attic,
and then I'm hoping like everyone will be like, hey,

(57:35):
I want to go on a hunt because I do
collect shit and the hunt is sometimes more fun than
actually acquiring. Totally agree, So I'm looking to go on
some hunts with them, look for some cards, and then
on the days when we don't find any, I'm like, hey,
what's in my back pocket? Where did I Where did
I find this?

Speaker 2 (57:54):
I think you also, maybe there's a couple listeners out
there that can help out. I've accumulated an okase sealed collections,
so I can throw some his way, and I think
at some point in the next few months, once he's
a little comfortable with what he likes in the cards.
He likes, we should go to a card show.

Speaker 1 (58:08):
I'm also fully prepared for if on Christmas he opens
them he doesn't really like them. I'm gonna sell them
onto you.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
Okay, yeah, I'll buy We go there, we go. Yeah,
all right.

Speaker 1 (58:20):
I walked in the house with three target bags filled
with Pokemon cards. My wife's like, what in the h
are you doing? And I'm like, Rafie showed interest, and
I am clinging to his childhood.

Speaker 2 (58:30):
Yeah, and the nice thing at least with this hobby,
you have some knowledge of Pokemon, and you have a
decent amount of knowledge but trading cards, so you're not
completely out of your arm.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
Well, so, as a kid, I fucking loved baseball cards.
I did collect Pokemon cards. As a kid, I collected
some hockey cards. Any Magic, the Gathering, No Magic the Gathering.

Speaker 2 (58:50):
Okay, I I had quite a few of those.

Speaker 1 (58:52):
But yes, as I bought these, I also bought a
thing of the hard cases, and also the sheets that
you can put in the book, and.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
The penny sleeves.

Speaker 1 (59:00):
And as soon as you open up the packs, you
go and you organize and you put them right in there.
So I am fully prepared for that. I am also
gonna be as soon as I'm gonna research all the
chase cards, I'm gonna try and figure this out, and
if I see him pop, I'm gonna be like, hey,
one second, take that, put it right in the case. Yeah,
you can look at it all you want. It's in
the case now.

Speaker 2 (59:20):
Yeah. You'll have to have a separate storage for like
the valuable cards, which is what I do. I also
have a lot of bulk that are like ten twenty
cent cards that I'm more than happy to send your way.

Speaker 1 (59:33):
I don't know if I'm gonna be able to do this,
but say, if he does pull an expensive one, I'll
be like, hey, let's sell that and you can get more.

Speaker 2 (59:43):
Yeah, or that, or at least this is what Joe
has told me. He's done with his daughters. So his
daughter's eight or nine, so she's obviously a little more
into it, can kind of grasp a little more things.
Every once in a while, they'll do a graded card,
and it's a thing she really looks forward to. Oh cool,
like one of her favorite cards. So that's an avenue
you can do as.

Speaker 1 (01:00:03):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
