Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's night Side with Dan Ray. I'm telling you Easy
Boston's news radio.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Where we're wrapping up another week of Nightside here in WBC.
My name is Dan Ray, the host of Nightside, And
as I look back on any week, and I tend
to do this on Friday night at eleven o'clock, it's
amazing the number of topics that we hit this week.
We talked about the super moon on Monday night. We
talked about the best food under twenty dollars in some
(00:28):
of it. We talked about the Massachusetts move overlaw with
Triple A's mark shield Drop. We talked about negative campaign
ads with Professor Bob Cabala. We talked with city Councilor
Ed Flynn about Centifolds, a strip club looking to move
its location, and we had a follow up on that
last night with the general manager of Centerfolds, which I
(00:50):
thought was a very nice, balanced conversation. We talked about
the predictions in advance of elections on Tuesday in Virginia,
New Jersey, and New York. Then, of course on Tuesday night,
we talked about the panmass Winter Challenge. We talked with
doctor Carmichael, who we just spoke with about why free
speech matters. Talk with comedian TJ. Miller, who is up
(01:13):
in New Hampshire tonight and I think at the Wilbert
Tomorrow night. Talked about carbon monoxide and the danger of
carbon monoxide. This is Beware of Awareness Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month.
Talk with doctor Vasha Rodik Krishnan about the seasonal effect disorder. Talked,
of course about the results on Tuesday night. Talked about
(01:34):
the best place to start a family on Wednesday Night,
which was Massachusetts. Talked about the The Invincible Brain with
doctor Majid for Tuhey. Talked with Kyle Austin Young about
success is a numbers game. Talk with Anthony and Moury
(01:55):
about the Rembrandt highest. Boston's political landscape unchanged in the elections.
Big off year win for the Democrats not only in Virginia,
New Jersey, but also in New York. On Thursday night,
talked with Emily Sweeney about a cold case up in
New Hampshire. Talk with Fred Weiser, a Navy commander was
(02:15):
the lead solo for the Blue Angels. Talk with Amy
Lehaker about Stress Awareness Week. Talk with John Casey about
a Boston Latin school classmate of his who received a
quite an honor. He died in the line of duty,
not in a combat situation, but helping to save the
life of a fellow Marine. Lieutenant Al Lucier. Talked with
Paul Baskin last night about more motorized vehicles and intruding
(02:42):
into bike lanes. We had a really interesting conversation about that.
Doug bill Bred about his book in the Marines, which
was distributed today to about two thousand Marines at a
big event at the Boston Convention Center. Talked with Nick
de Filippo of Centerfolds. I mentioned that, talked about the
air travel christ here and then last night at eleven
(03:02):
Talked tonight about a restaurant Tuscan Brands offering free meals
to veterans on next Tuesday Veterans Day. Talk with Tara
Cronin about the old Christmas Tree shops down on the
Cape and how that there are signs that are available.
Talked about the neuroscience of a bucket list, which gave
me the idea for tonight's eleven o'clock hour talk with
(03:24):
Dylan Robinson and Global Partners. They're trying to make some
contributions and ease the food crunch that a lot of
families are feeling in view of the government shutdown. Talk
with doctor Michael Nagel about the action of the Trump
administration going after so called Venezuelan drug boats, and just
last hour, Smith and Arrow doctor Chloe Carmichael. So we
(03:45):
cover a lot in a week. I don't know how
many of you were with us for the entire week,
but I whatever time you could spend with us would
appreciate it. And again, I hope some of you will
develop the courage to call and express your opinion. It
was funny. I wanted to make the point to doctor
Carmichael last hour that I truly believe a lot of
people don't necessarily share their politics with friends or with
(04:12):
people maybe with whom they disagree. I think that we
have been conditioned to do that because if we express
an opinion, maybe we'll be exiled from the group. It's dangerous.
That's dangerous. And one of the things about Nightside, if
you listen to Nightside long enough, you realize that whatever
your viewpoints, there's a lot of people out there who
agree with you, and that is one of the purposes
(04:34):
of this program. So what I want to do tonight
as we finish in the twentieth hour every week. I
think you know it's a tradition here on Nightside. And
by the way, let me just make a mention that
on Monday night, we will have Grant Glosslin, the admission
director of Boston College, and Bill Fitzsimmons, the long time
dean of Admissions at Harvard University, as our guest at
(04:57):
eight o'clock on Monday night, eight o'clock on my Monday night.
And I guarantee you if you have a young high
school student who is a contemplating applying to college, it
is really appointment radio for them, and it should be
appointment radio for you as parents or grandparents to help
young people basically navigate the maze of college admissions. It's
(05:21):
not an easy process. It can be totally overwhelming, particularly
for families who are doing it for the first time.
So please let your friends and neighbors know over the weekend,
your friends, neighbors, relatives, they should be listening to Night's
Side of Monday Night. I hope to do two hours
because there's lots of information that needs to be disseminated
as we approach the college admissions academic admissions season, and
(05:45):
there's always great schools. It may not be the first
choice you have, or it may be the first choice
you have, But how do you navigate this process? Now?
What do we want to talk about tonight? Well? I
really was a little influenced earlier tonight by one of
our guests who talked about the neuroscience of a bucket list,
(06:08):
something to look forward to. So I am going to
ask all of you to think. Now. I know that's
a lot for a talk show hosts to ask his audience,
but I got to tell you, folks, I ask you
to think every night, and now I want you to
think outside the box, and I want you to share
your thoughts with me and with others. Have you thought yet?
(06:29):
And I don't care if you're listening to this show
and you're in your teens, or if you're first starting
your first job in your mid twenties or in your thirties,
or you've just started a family and you think retirement
is far away, or if you are currently on the
cusp of retirement, or if indeed you are retired already.
My question tonight, and I again, whenever I throw these
(06:52):
questions out, I am relying upon you to provide the answers. Yeah,
if you're listening out there, I'm talking to you. Where
do you either intend to retire to or if you
have already tired retired, where did you retire to? I
don't care. If you live in Massachusetts, Will it be Massachusetts,
(07:13):
will it be New England? Will it be some far
away place? What are the factors? Is it weather, is
it finances? Is it family? Uh? If you live elsewhere
in the country, where do you plan to retire to?
So I just hope all of you will dial in
at six one, seven, two, five, four ten thirty six
one seven, nine, three one ten thirty, triple eight nine two, nine,
(07:35):
ten thirty. I don't know if that helps you triple
eight nine to nine ten thirty get through uh, and
just let me know. If you've retired already, how did
you pick your retirement spot and what were the most
important factors? Whether finances, family, maybe there was another factor.
(07:56):
I don't know if any of you have retired or
are planning to retire to a far away place. I
have some call I have at least a caller I
know in Panama who calls in every once in a while,
who I think is in some sort of semi retirement,
and many of you might be what do I mean
by semi retirement? Means you've moved away or you've cut
(08:18):
back and you're not quite sure, but you think this
is what you're going to want to do. So with
that six one seven, two, five, four ten thirty six
one seven nine three one ten thirty, let me go
to a very quick break and we get back. We're
going to start off with George and Bridgewater and the
rest of you are invited to follow. What where are
you going to retire? Where have you retired to? And
(08:40):
what are the factors? What are the factors that that
are are basically pushing you in one direction or the other.
Will be right back on night Side. This is about
a minute and a half commercial break, so doubt quickly
coming back on Nightside.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
You're on night Side with Dan Ray on WBS, Austin's
news Radio.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Well, good start. We got a bunch of calls here,
let's keep it rolling. The only line that is opened,
there's one line at six one seven George and Bridgewawter. George,
welcome back. How are you tonight?
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Good?
Speaker 4 (09:13):
How are you doing?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Dan?
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Were you thinking of spending your golden years in retirement.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Well, when I was born and raised around here in Massachusetts,
you know that. But I moved to San Diego. Yeah,
I moved to San Diego, and I loved that weather.
I lived up here for ten years, so I tried
to talk my wife into moving to Hawaii. And if
if we moved through Hawaii we were both still working,
(09:45):
then I would have retired there.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
I would have stayed there.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
So that's where I wanted to read.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
So I'm going to put you down as Hawaii and
that even though your wife is reluctant, you got to
work on her this one, George, Hawaii would be beautiful.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Oh tell me about it. I mean, it's it's.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
I got it.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
I have a few friends that live out there, and
it really is beautiful. It's probably even a little bit
better than San Diego, even though I think San Diego
has a second or third best weather in this country.
But anyway, in San Diego, George, what would you do
for friends in San Diego?
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I guess you probably developed some friends when you lived
out there.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
I did, But you know the funny thing about California,
they're fly by night. I had about five or six
real good friends in San Diego. Just through my job.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
And when I came back here to Massachusetts in eighty eight,
I called every one of them just once a year,
and after three years, I know there's not one of them.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Member called me back. So that was it. So let's
let's tell us.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
I got George down for Hawai. If you move to Hawaii, George,
you gotta keep in touch with me, okay, because I'm
gonna come and visit you.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
Okay, Dan, I need to install some windows. I lost that.
That your people's telephone number, Window in the World. Yeah,
what Window World? Okay, that's all I need. I'll get
their number.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
What's real simple, it's Window World of Boston okay.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Uh yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
And uh. As a matter of fact, if you if
you want to hold on George, uh uh you know
what I'm gonna do here. I want you to leave
your number with with Shane, and I want you I
want Shane to give you my direct number, okay. Uh
(11:53):
And and if if you can, you know, just Window
World of Boston dot com and you go to the
computer or.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
No, oh yeah, very good.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh that's all it is Windoworld of Boston dot Com.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
I'll do it.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
I don't need to hold on the ball to Shane,
but you can go on.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
To do me a favorite. I take my phone number
and give me a call next week if if you
have any problems, I'll call you back and I'll get
you the number and i'll get you the name of
the owner so we can get you a little bit
of a deal on them.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Okay, all right, it sounds like sounds like a deal.
Thank you, Shane.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Give give George my number, well my direct line. You
got that number, okay, I hope, And if you don't,
I'll give it. I can give it to you later on. Okay, Okay,
all right, thanks, thanks George. Next one, next, don't hang up, Shane.
Take that call off the ear off the air. There
you go. Good job, Shane. And it's the last. It's
(12:48):
six one seven seven eight seven seven oh three three. Okay,
got it. Let's go to kareem uh kareem in Quincy
hi kareein? How are you good?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
How are you grave?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Where would you like to retire? A? Where do you
intend to retire? Korean?
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Well?
Speaker 7 (13:05):
I love the call of that Georgia's call thing because
I lived.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
In Hawaii for.
Speaker 7 (13:11):
About a summer during my three teenage years, and it
was gorgeous, but my parents told me it was very,
very expensive. I was born in Rooster County, Maine. So
this is my bucket, my bucket list by calendar year,
Naples or the Florida Keys winter. Yeah, okay, then come
(13:41):
to my home city, Quincy, mass and say on my
boat at the Town River Yacht Club, and live on
my boat April through May. In between April through July,
I would say, and during that time we go to
a property in Ireland and then back to Naples.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Okay, so you're gonna You're gonna go Naples, back to Quinsy, Ireland,
and back to Naples, and that'll be the cycle you'll
do every year.
Speaker 7 (14:13):
Yes, Anna Russa County camp Fore, Maine. That's very important.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
So so so you're gonna keep moving in your retirement.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
I am. And that that's that that's what keeps us going.
As long as you move, you you are living. Moving
is living, all right.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
I like that idea. And I particularly like Ireland, that's
for sure.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
Okay, Island is fabulous. Ireland is gorgeous.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Yep. I was there a couple of years ago, and uh, you.
Speaker 7 (14:40):
Don't go there for the weather.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Well, they got great weather.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
They got great weather May, June, July, August, and September.
It gets a little chili like we do, little rainy
in the wintertime. Kareem, thank you so much for joining us.
He's always love you. Calls thank you, Kareem, call more often.
Good night, good night, Eileen. Where are you going to retire? Hi?
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Hi?
Speaker 8 (15:06):
Hi? I am, I am retired, and I am am
I'm I'm very happy where I've retired to. I'm in
an assisted living residence in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and I have
a window that looks out at the Harvard campus. Uh,
(15:33):
the Steeple of Memorial Chapel is right there.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
And I also know you, Iileen, that you have a
couple of sons who live in the area. And I'll
bet you they it would be tough for you to
move away.
Speaker 9 (15:49):
Oh.
Speaker 10 (15:49):
I I have lived most of my life now in
the Boston Massachusetts are absolutely and and I don't I
originally grew up in upstate New York. I like to
(16:10):
go back and visit, but I don't want to live there.
I just I love Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Speaker 11 (16:19):
I love university.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
People who don't know you. You're an academic too, You're
you're somebody who's who's very comfortable in an academic setting,
and your husband was.
Speaker 8 (16:29):
That's true, Iant, that's true.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
It's always great to hear your voice. You sound great,
and I hope you have a great fall and we'll
talk soon. Okay, don't be a stranger.
Speaker 11 (16:40):
Okay, thanks, all.
Speaker 10 (16:41):
Right, thank you, Thanks Sam.
Speaker 11 (16:44):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
So let me go to my Palel Harvey, Silver Glad
and Cambridge. Harvey, I have no idea. First of all,
I don't think you're ever going to retire.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
That's why I call. I vowed I was not going
to call in this week, but you have touched upon
my obsession. I do not understand the American obsession with retiring.
If you're in good health physical and mental, and you
you you retire just as you are at your peak
(17:15):
in knowing your field. I mean, I live in an
assistant living place in Cambridge. I have two research assistants
helping me with my law practice and writing two books.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Your home is your assistant living Yes, I do that,
Irony Harvey, because I've been there, and not everybody in
my audience would get that. Irony.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
I do not understand this obsession with retiring, since you
get better, and I mean it's not like this is
you know, physical labor or coal mine or something like that.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Well, that's the other thing.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
If you're using your brain, why would anybody retire just
as they're getting really good at what they do.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Well, Harvey, you've been very good at what you do
for decades, number one, So don't underestimate yourself. But obviously
you're you're a fabulous lawyer, you're a scholar, you're an
academic and so. But but there are a lot of
people who have been involved in more physical, strenuous labor.
(18:18):
If you know what I'm saying, and so this is perfect,
you will never retire, nor should you.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
But I will correct I will never retire.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
But there are those who have different, different strokes of
different folks. There are people who figure if they can
play golf, if they can play eighteen holes of golf
every day and you know, live comfortably, that is perfect
for them. Others want to take a trip around the world.
That's what that's what makes my show tick here and
hopefully we'll hear them. We've got people who want to
(18:52):
be in Hawaii and Correen before you was well, just
before you. I Lei is looking out her window. She
wants to retired her window looking out at Harvard Yard.
I mean, everybody's different, but I know you well enough
to know that you will never retire and we need you.
(19:15):
The world needs you, my friend. You know that.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Okay, anyway you get me, this is where we write. Buggleboos.
I've been down to Florida. I've gotta be there cemetery.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Well would There's a lot of people who would love
to just sit on the beach, Harvey. It's not you
or me necessarily. We have to be open minded here, Harvey.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
I'm open mind day. But I just wanted that I'm
stumbled in the discussion. Who did not intend to retire?
Speaker 2 (19:54):
You got it? And you know what, you may not
be the only one. I suspect that they may be
one or two more of you out there. Thanks Harvey,
have a great weekend, My great friend, Harvey silver Glade.
An incredible lawyer and an incredible scholar and a student
of the Constitution. No one knows it better than Harvey
(20:14):
silver Glade. Quick break here at the bottom of the hour.
It is eleven thirty. Join us. I have one line
at six one, seven, five, four, ten thirty. Where do
you want to retire to and why and what is
what is pushing you there? Is it finances? Is it family? Uh?
Is it weather Way? Do you want to retire? Back
on Nightside after it? And by the way, I know
(20:36):
there are people listening around the world, because I know
we have systems that tell us that if you're in
Panama tonight, if you're in England tonight and you're getting
up early and you want to tell us, if you're anywhere,
feel free call in. I'll put you on quickly because
I want people to maybe someone who has retired to
(20:56):
Belgium or to Italy. Six one, seven, two, five, four,
ten thirty, six, one seven, nine thirty. All lines are
filled up right now, but we'll be back right after
the news.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
You're on Night Side with Dan Ray on wz Boston's
news radio.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Let's head out to the Great Northwest, to Idaho, where
Laurie awaits us. Laurie, I'm going to be really interested
as to where you want to retire.
Speaker 11 (21:22):
Well, the first thing I have to say is you
left at one great on Harvey. He's a great personality.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Oh he really is. He's one of my best friends
in the world.
Speaker 11 (21:30):
I really enjoyed listening to him.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
He laughs, and he I mean he is an intellectual giant.
Speaker 11 (21:38):
He is so darn smart.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yes, yeah, I mean, believe me, believe me. So where
will it be? Where will it be? Miss Laurie.
Speaker 11 (21:47):
Well, so it was going back to these coast that question.
I want to be an hour's drive from the shoreline
and two three New England and or Hilton House with
Carolina because like business there a few times I fell
in love with the area, and so it'll probably be
a combination of the two for a while. And when
I really really really really really get sick and tire
(22:08):
of winter, it will probably be Hilton.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Met Hilton Head. That's North Carolina, right, No, South Carolina,
South Carolina. Okay, well you have the advantage of no
estate tax down there as well, I believe.
Speaker 11 (22:20):
Well that's the part of it. Yeah, well it is.
I think it's a lot whether it's friends and stuff
and you know, then start of looking at some of
those things. But yep, I just I loved it down there,
and I'm not you know, I'm not that closer retirement
really but well, I guess I could speak technically, but
I'm not. And I just I mean, I'm New England,
you know, I may be snowbird at some point. Let's
put that way.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
But I hear you. I totally hear you on that one.
You know, again, a lot of people their family, they
might plan and then they find out that their grandchildren
are living in Alabama or their grandchildren all right.
Speaker 11 (22:56):
Well I have my parents their grand general of living Montucky,
which is the reason I'm out here. But anyway, I.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Hear you, I hear you.
Speaker 7 (23:04):
Thank you.
Speaker 11 (23:05):
I didn't mean to insult anybody.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
No no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
No, no, no thanks, Laurie, have a great night. Let
me go to James in the car and when it's
James and the car ladies and gentleman's the great James
Montgomery blues man extraordinary. I hey, James, Oya, Hey, good,
how are you doing. I'm doing just great. This is
James Montgomery.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Right, yeah, yeah, you know, I just you know, you know,
I listening to the show every night, practically, especially when
I'm on the way home from the show. I did
a benefiting glosson tonight to raise money for Open Door
that provides food for for needing people up in that
area and the course for these for these troubled times.
(23:51):
You know, we felt that we should really make sure
that people up there have access to uh to food
and address food and she so listen to your show?
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Where you book the rest of the weekend? I mean,
you're you? You were out there almost every night. Where
are you? Where are you tomorrow night?
Speaker 8 (24:12):
Well?
Speaker 4 (24:13):
I actually have a Saturday night off, and I don't
even know what to do on a Saturday night. I
don't even know what's on television on Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
But you got the Bruins tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
Oh wow, Well there you go. You know, I'm I
got a call from today and I'm going to go
see your self exhaement him pretty soon. But you know
the thing is, people people ask Mell and Sam what
are you going to do when you retire? And I say,
you know what I would do if I retired. I
would sing and I would play music.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah, which is what you do. But you've done your
dire life. You'll like my pale Harvey. Harvey said, someone
else would call. Yeah, James Bud got me the great
blues man. He's never going to retire. Are you cold retire? James?
Speaker 4 (25:02):
No? They asked Willie Nelson, what are you going to
do in your retire to retire? He says, I sing,
you know, so that's that's that's a great thing about
what I do for a living. Like I say, people say,
are you going to retire? You know, I do every
retired I would sing and play music, although although I
will admit that one form of retirement for me would
(25:26):
be to find a great guitar player in a Malfie
and then move to the Amalfi Coast and get a
little gig there at some little Italian bistro and and
play blues three nights a week and live in Italy
for the rest of my life.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
I don't know when was the last time you were
at the Amalfi Coast. I took listeners to the Amalfi
Coast a year ago.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Oh my god, it's the most one, because the most
wonderful place in the world.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
I'll tell you, it's pretty amazing.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Yeah, last time was It was a few years ago.
But the first time I was there, I was over
there with Johnny Winter, you know, great guitar player. Yeah,
and it' and so once I once I discovered Italy,
you know, it's like, you know, once you discover these places,
you really do want to go back, you know, did
when you were there?
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Did you did you get did you? I hope you
got to see POMPEII.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Well I didn't see POMPEII, you know I did. Uh,
you know, we did play Tuscany. My opening act in
Tuscany was Robert Plant by the way, when when when
we were there with Johnny Winter. So it was a
it was a great, great, great evening.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Oh I'll bet you you you yeah again, you're in
the same category. So it's not like you would play
with the big boys. But but the A team was
out there and uh, the American eight team for blues
and music was out there for the Italian for the
Amalfi Coast. Yeah, next time you go, you got to
go to POMPEII. It was an amazing it was amazing.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
I will take I will take your advice and that.
And you know, the one thing is, you know, I notice,
you know the last four or five callers are regulars,
and and I do want to say that, you know,
you've created this great family of listeners. And I mean
I listen to all the time. I only call in
when I feel that I might have something to contribute.
(27:21):
But but you know, you've got this great family of
people that listen to you and you know you you're
always even minded, and it's just, uh, you've created such
a great sense of community here that all of our
listeners are really happy that that we get a chance
to communicate with you on a regular basis.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
I just, well, I think it's I think it's just
kind of like a big party on you every night.
And uh, some nights it's serious, some night it's not
so serious. But we kind of just walking through life
together is the way it is. And uh, you never
know what happens tomorrow, what happens next week. But I
just want to expand the group of listeners as much
(28:05):
as I can, So I want everybody to tell their friends.
And I'm here five nights a week, Monday through Friday.
Off a couple of nights next week, but I'll be
back the following week for five. I've just run a
streak of I think since Labor Day, I have had
one day off September, October and now halfway November one
day off. And I think it's I've run about forty
(28:26):
five shows, and it's tough for shows every night. I mean,
have you do the same thing, You're doing different shows,
But everybody knows what they want to hear. They want
to hear James play this, They want to hear James
play that.
Speaker 12 (28:41):
Well.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
One of the songs we've played tonight with DK the
founding bass player member of the Jay Giles Band, and
he was part of the band tonight and one of
the songs we played it ain't nothing but the party,
and that's how I feel sometimes, So it ain't nothing but.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Well that's that's the highest compliment you can pay my
pay me, my friend, ladies and gentlemen, James Montgomery, if
you get an opportunity, Dan, what is your website? Because
I want more of my listeners to to stop by
and hear you something. Give me the website so people
in the next month, before the weather turns bad, can
can catch you some night. How can they find you?
Speaker 4 (29:24):
It took me years to come up with us. But
it's James Froncomery dot com. Why you know what I mean?
But Dan, thank you for everything you do for New
England and you know you're kind of part of the
glue that holds our community together. So thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
I compliment my friend right back at you. You are
part of this uh uh, this this New England area
as well and and your your name is magical and
your music is magical. Thanks James, talk to you soon.
Speaker 4 (29:54):

I think a great topic that you should discuss is
is the presidential pod? Too much powerful one person. But
let's get to where I want to retire.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yeah, where you're gonna go? You're gonna tell me the Cape.
Speaker 13 (30:46):

shop there for years. I worked physically hard my whole life,
so I can't I had to retire, but anyway, Yes,
I live in Dennisport. Dennis has one of the cheapest
tax rates in Massachusetts, and it is got everything in need.
(31:09):
The summertime, the weather is great. I'm right near uh
you know, the Nantucket Sound coastline. There is more to
explore in Cape Guard than people realize. I have more
hobby fishing the beach, I love mountain biking in the trails.
And then in the off season. People don't realize there
(31:29):
are the the retirement in Dennis are on Cape Cod.
There are so many people, and sure some of my
favorite restaurants close up for the season, but there are
plenty of them that are open year round.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
And where the tourists leave. Uh, you guys rule the roost.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
You got it. You got it.
Speaker 13 (31:51):
And it's only an hour and a half back to Boston.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Yeah yeah. And in the in the in the fall,
in the winter, the bridges are always wide open. At
least that's been my wow.
Speaker 13 (32:00):
Unless they're working on him correct.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Well, that's true too. Yeah, you gotta gotta work on
him sometimes. Larry has always said, how do your daughter
for me? Will you please remember me? Thanks time me
talk to you.
Speaker 13 (32:11):
Okay, he's still in Afghanistan.
Speaker 8 (32:13):

listening somewhere in a far away place, I'll bump you
up in the line. We got one segment coming up.
I got Joe, I got John, I got Karen, and
I got room for you. At six one, seven nine three,
one ten thirty. That's the magic number that will get
you through. Six one, seven ninety. If you're in a
(32:37):
faraway place, give us a call. Where have you retired
to or where do you intend to retire to? Back
on Night Side right after this.
Speaker 1 (32:48):

Speaker 2 (32:54):

I don't know that you're ever going to retire, but
where will it me?
Speaker 5 (33:01):

Speaker 12 (33:02):
I'm two years older than you, and I'm retired. I'm happy.
I'm happy to be in my castle, and I don't
want to make I don't want to make a move.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Joe. I agree with you. I think that perfect, just
perfect for you. I really mean that. I'm you know,
I didn't realize you had already retired. But are you
enjoying retirement? Yes?
Speaker 12 (33:28):
I just wanted to agree with hobby. If you allows
me at something or good at something. You don't want
to retire, You want to keep on going. You don't
want to go into an assisted living or a nursing home.
You want to die in your castle. You got to
enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
I love you that you live in the Belmont Castle.
Speaker 12 (33:48):
I grew up in Somerville.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Well now you now you're in.
Speaker 12 (33:54):

when I don't know that I've ever even asked you
that question when you when you were working? How how
long have you been retired?

talk to you later. Let's go to John in New York. John.
I know you're I think you're still working. Where will
you retire?
Speaker 14 (34:51):
How about in the rural area where I live in
my house right now?
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Okay, so you're like, you're like Joe saying you you
have a comfortable living location, you know, the neighborhood. Yes,
why go anywhere else?
Speaker 14 (35:09):
Well, the thing is a lot of people that come
from down in New York City by land up in
this area and they put a house up and they
live here because it's peaceful.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Let me tell you something, quality of life. I said.
You know, some people are going to be influenced by finances.
Some people are going to be influenced by weather. You
don't have the greatest weather in the world there, but
you know you your beauty spring, summers and fall, and
you you hunkered down for the winter and you're all set.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Yeh.
Speaker 14 (35:42):
By the way, you were the subject of a conversation
at work today, I was, Yes, my girlfriend, what you
know about overseas? She's been calling me every day about
asking what day does why? I desire her to arrive.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Now we're getting.
Speaker 14 (36:03):
Now everybody's going, uh, are you going to invite us
to the wedding? I said, no, you got to be
able to make it to go. Why, I said, because
I'm probably going to go to Boston to get married.
I said, why do you want to go there? I said,
because as a gentleman by the man man and a
man by the name of Dan Ray that has a
radio program on this powerful station WBS at night called
(36:25):
night Side Show, and he has a lot to do
with us getting together because of the fact I went
to his post program on Facebook. Is how I caught
up with this woman. You know about that, right?
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Yes?
Speaker 14 (36:38):
Yes, wow, So he said, I telling him about how
you asked to be invited to the wedding. I said,
why not get married over there and nice city to
have a honeymoon in because I used to fly in
and at a Logan Airport. I go to wall Fame,
the Polaroid, I got to Leminster to Foster Grand Sunglass Company,
(36:59):
and somebody up in Middleton, and I never really had
the time to go see the city.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Well, you know, John, when when when the big day comes,
you give me some notice and I'll make sure that
that that I'll be there. We'll we'll work something out,
we'll figure it out. Okay, it'll be the first wedding
that you.
Speaker 9 (37:21):
No.
Speaker 14 (37:21):
I told the girl all about you, and she's reminded
me that you know you have to be invited to
the wedding, you know you. I gotta tell her to
get the heart app and listen to you.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
You know we do have some listeners in the Philippines.
She would not be the first. John, I gotta get
two more in. I'm gonna let you run, but just
give me as much notice as you can. Okay, thanks John.
Speaker 14 (37:48):
Oh yeah, yes I will, right man.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Let me go to Kara to Wisconsin. Karen, you live
in a beautiful state. Where do you want to retire to?
Speaker 9 (38:00):
It looks like I'm probably stuck if I could. If
I could, I would get myself back and PLoP myself
down Rosie Square. Then go help Harvey be an assistant
and tell people how not to get a lawyer because
you'll get stuck. But so I just hope that I
can do something part time before I die and keep
(38:24):
taking care of these sixteen zillion animals in the backyard
that I've got, and my hopes and dreams are you know,
will do the best I can.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
All Right, we got you down Rosalindale Square. Here she comes.
Thanks Garrett.
Speaker 3 (38:43):

six months there, six months in Hawaii. That's my goal.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Florida and Hawaii. Wow. Yeah, let me tell you that's
not bad. You have the good weather in Florida in
the winter, and then when you have the really hot
weather you go to Hawaii. Oh, that'll be great, that'll
be great. That's as good. That's as good at combo
