Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's Night Side with Dan Ray. I'm telling you easy
Boston's news radio.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, we are in the fourth and final hour of
this Monday night edition of NIGHTSI is November third, so
we have started. We are now into the eleventh month
of calendar year twenty twenty five. Boy, it just seems
like it was January just a couple of days ago,
but the year has early swept by. I am back
at my home studio, which I'm very happy to be
(00:29):
here tonight, and I will be here for the next
few months, and just kind of getting settled in and
had kind of a long weekend for sure, when you
got to move from one place to the other. But
we're here and you're there, so please feel free to
join us. Please tell your friends about Night coming up
next week a week from tonight, on Monday night, November tenth,
(00:52):
we will have our annual college admissions panel. It will
run from We'll start at eight o'clock. Normally runs a
couple of hours. So this is an opportunity for any
college bound student, any high school student, any parent, any grandparent,
any relative to ask any questions about the college admissions
(01:14):
process to families who are for the first time trying
to find the right college for their high school student.
And again this search really starts seriously when they're freshmen
in high school. I know it's three or four years away,
but they have tests that come up that they have
(01:35):
to be ready for. They also have to learn about
different colleges and find the one that will fit their lifestyle.
Some kids want to live in the city, want to
go to a big, big city school. Others want to
be out in the suburbs somewhere, want to be in
a more rural area. We have all sorts of colleges
here in New England and of course around the country.
(01:57):
And you can talk with Bill Fitzimmons and who who's
at Harvard. Bill has done this with us. This will
be his nineteenth year, just an extraordinary run for him
here on night Side. As you know, we are talking
about the admissions process. We're not getting into any of
(02:18):
the politics that has kind of swirled around Harvard for
the last few years. And we'll also talk with the
director of admissions from Boston College. We started off with
John Mahoney many years ago and we now have John successor,
who does a great job with us as well. So
(02:38):
everything is set for next Monday night beginning at eight o'clock,
and I would encourage all of you to reach out
to your to your to your family, and to your
particularly young people. And this is an opportunity for someone
who is young to actually talk to the head of
(03:03):
Harvard's admissions office, Bill fitz Simmons, has been there for
my god, how many years, forty years maybe at least,
or Grant Gosling who represents Boston College and he has
been with us now for four or five years. They're experienced,
and you don't have to you don't have if you're
(03:25):
not interested in going to Harvard of Boston College. You
can ask them the questions that they will tell. They
will give you secrets and give you insights that you
could get from very very few people in this country.
And that's why the College Admissions Panel is, to my
way of thinking, one of the most important that one
of the most important couple of hours of radio we
(03:47):
do every year. So having put that aside, I want
to talk about an event last night that caught my
eye and I thought it was really good and it
was interesting. I have some observations on it. I hope
you do as well. Well. The former lead anchor at
that point, the solo anchor, Nora O'Donnell of the CBS
(04:10):
Evening News.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
It is now co anchored by a couple of people
who I think are going to be replaced fairly soon.
There's a lot going on with CBS. They were just bought.
The CBS has undergone a tremendous transition. The new head
of the CBS News division is a woman named Barry Weiss,
(04:34):
who actually is an outspoken conservative. And it was really
interesting knowing that the leadership of CBS News I'm talking
about the network now has changed and probably will change
more in the next few weeks, in the next few months.
(04:54):
Nora O'Donnell sat down with President Donald Trump, and I thought,
apparently it was a ninety minute interview and they ended
up doing whatever it was thirty minutes per air. But
I thought it was a very fair presentation. I thought
that she asked really tough questions, and I thought that
he snapped back with really good answers. They both were
(05:15):
on the top of their game. In my opinion. He
as a president who has done some things that have
caused controversy. They talked about the mayoral race in New York,
which is Donald Trump's hometown, a city that he has
never won in his three presidential elections, in a city
(05:36):
that tomorrow may vote into office for the first time
in avout socialist. But that will have to see what
the results are tomorrow. Night talked about he was challenged
on whether or not he was involved in any of
the indictments of Comy Bolton or New York Attorney General
(05:58):
Letitia James. This was sort of the tone of it.
O'Donnell had good questions and the President had really good answers.
So let's start off with cut number three. This was
again CBS. She's now, I guess like a special correspondent,
(06:21):
and last night was on sixty minutes cut number three.
Please Rob James call me me.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
John Bolton, Letitia James were all recently indicted. There's a
pattern to these names. They're all public figures who have
publicly denounced you. Is it political retribute?
Speaker 5 (06:37):
No one you know who got indicted the man you're
looking at. I got indicted and I was innocent. And
here I am because I was able to beat all
of the nonsense that was thrown at me. And yet
when you go after a dirty cop like call me
or a guy like Bolton, who I hear has I don't.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Know anything about it.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
I hear he took records all over the place.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Who knows.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Leticia James is a terrible, dishonest person in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
No punches being pulled, either in the questions or or
the answer. O'Donnell followed up with what you would expect,
a good tough question. Cut three A rob.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Did you instruct the Department of Justice to go I'm
not in any way, shape or form.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
No, you don't have to instruct them because they were
so dirty, they were so crooked, they were so corrupt
that the honest people we have, Pam Bondi's doing a
very good job, Cash Mattel's doing a very good job.
The honest people that we have go after them automatically.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
And one other follow up question again same topic, but
she didn't she asked good follow up questions were phrase well,
and she allowed him the courtesy of giving his answers
whether she was satisfied the answers or not. This was
three B rob, Please.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Is this retribution?
Speaker 6 (07:58):
Now?
Speaker 2 (07:58):
What's the opposite?
Speaker 5 (07:59):
I think I've been very mild mannered. You're looking at
a man who was indicted many times, and I had
to beat the rap. Otherwise I couldn't have run for president.
They tried to get me not to run for president
by going after me and by indicting me.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Again. I thought, I thought that she, as a journalist,
did a good job asking there were no softball questions,
and I thought that the President did a good job
in snapping back at her. And I don't know how
many of you watched it last night on sixty minutes.
I think it's a show that you need to watch.
(08:36):
But that's your decision. Maybe some of you was, well,
it's on after the football game. It was on after
the Bill's Chiefs game, so it was delayed a little bit.
Then the President was asked about some other topics, and
we'll get to those. I just want to I want
to hear your reaction to what happened last night. I
(08:58):
also would like to hear what some of you are
thinking about tomorrow. This time tomorrow night, we will know.
I assume who the next governor of Virginia is, and
who the next governor of New Jersey is, and who
the next mayor of New York is, And if any
of you would like to comment, on those races, Let's
make this a little bit of a political hour. A
(09:20):
year from today, November third, twenty twenty six, is the
mid term election, the all important midterm election, but tomorrow
may provide us some insight as to what people at
least in two states are thinking about Donald Trump and
(09:41):
what people in New York are thinking about their future.
Six one seven, two, five, four ten thirty six one seven, nine,
three one ten thirty. Let's have a little bit of
fun with this, whatever your point is. If you I
believe that that I was scoring last night as really
good journalism, uh and and good reaction, Donald Trump was
(10:03):
on his feet. I could not see Joe Biden a
year ago being subjected to a series of questions, legitimate
questions that Nora O'Donnell confronted President Trump with. There's no
way that Joe Biden ever would have been in that situation.
And if there was ever a clear difference between Donald
(10:28):
Trump and Joe Biden, it existed. I mean, there's a
lot of differences. Nobody could keep up with what he
does in terms of his schedule six seven, two, five,
four ten thirty six one seven nine three one ten thirty.
Coming right back on a Monday night here on NIGHTSID.
We got a full week in front of us. It'll
be a big night to one night. We will follow
(10:49):
all the We'll have the late numbers. Uh. There's some
interesting city council races in Boston that are going on.
We can already announce that mayor will be re elected
tomorrow night before any votes have been cassed. I wish
that Josh Kraft had remained in the race. I wish
that people gave him more of a chance. But it
(11:12):
is done, and he gave it his best shot. He
presented himself more people should have responded, in my opinion,
back on Nightside, right after these messages.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
You're on Night Side with Dan Ray on WBZ, Boston's
news radio.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Okay, I can't imagine that none of you saw the
sixty minutes piece last night. If you're not watching sixty minutes,
I don't understand that. Whether you agree with how the
stories are presented, I thought last night, and I am
not I was never the biggest fan of Norah O'Donnell's objectivity,
(11:53):
but I thought she did a good job last night.
And if you agree, would love to hear from you.
If you agree, I'd even be more anxious there for
you to Bill and Danvers. Bill, did you get a
chance to watch that interview last night in sixty minutes?
Speaker 7 (12:07):
Yeah, I didn't know he was going to be on,
and I was finishing.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
Dinner someplace and was on the TV and then they
switched over there in the football. So I made it
a point when today it was quiet at work and
I had the laptop and I was caught up, and
I went back to watch it, and uh, I usually
you don't watch sixty minutes. I'm really not that impressed
with see you know their record, but I mean i'd say,
I say it was a B minus for sixty minutes.
(12:32):
I thought it was fairly solid to kind of contrigue,
you know what I mean, Jeeves, it wasn't bad, you know,
and you know.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
He made point. Well, well, here's my question. I don't
think that. Uh, I know you're a Trump guy, Okay,
so I'm I'm I'm speaking everything that that you say,
you know, through that filter, which is fine. I thought
that the president looked very much in control, very much
(13:02):
in command last night. He had facts and he had
arguments lined up. There was no hesitation. I thought he
looked as good as I've seen him in any interview setting.
And I think that he rose to the occasion. I
thought her questions were good. I thought they were straightforward.
They weren't got your questions and I and and she
allowed him to answer. I thought it was a good
(13:24):
performance for both of them. If you're a Nora o'donnelld fan,
and I'm not necessarily a Nora o'donald fan, I thought
she did a good job.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
It might have been even better, but it was a
little bit longer.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
I might have wanted to see a little bit more,
to give him a little more.
Speaker 8 (13:38):
Because he didn't.
Speaker 7 (13:39):
I mean, it did get rolland and he squeezed a lot.
Speaker 6 (13:42):
In and but I would like to have seen him
talk a little bit about the energy and what he's
done in that department. He did talk a little bit
about about the power plant AI and she was looking.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
You know, she's a news person, okay, so so she
she she started, well, I mean, I don't this sequence,
but she wanted to talk about the mayor or race
in New York. He was more than willing to rise
to that occasion. She talked with him about ice and
challenged him a little bit let me let me just play.
(14:15):
Let me get your reaction to a couple here. Okay,
this was This was him being asked about Mamdani. The
guy's a thirty four year old socialist born in Uganda
who was about maybe to become the next mayor of
New York. So let me just play this. This is
(14:36):
in long, it's only seventeen seconds. I want to get
your reaction to what how she asked the question and
his response to it cut.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Number one, Rob Zorhanmndani, thirty four year old democratic socialist.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
He's the forms no socialist communist. He's far worse.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Than some people have compared him to a left wing
version of you, charismatic breaking the old rules. What do
you think about that?
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Well, I think I'm a much better looking person than him, right,
you know.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I mean I thought it was I thought it was
a uh it was it was entertaining, and I thought
that they both came across as as fairly normal human beings.
Speaker 6 (15:18):
Yeah no, I mean for sixty minutes, you know it was.
It was definitely uh.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
You know good.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
And you know he did he did put the jab in.
He did put the jab in.
Speaker 9 (15:27):
The you know, he goes not there.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
You know, I don't know if you want to hear this,
but you know, uh, I don't want he got on
was was the sixty million or whatever the case was.
You know, he had to get that into you know.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
But yeah, well no, that that probably was why she
was she was in Well again, I'm just looking at
it as a journalist here, and I think that that
he he acquitted himself very well last night. Uh and
she asked him tough questions, but asked him questions in
(15:59):
a response us away. And I think that the lesson
I took from it was imagine if Joe Biden had won,
or if Kamala Harrison had won. I think the done
of the interview would have been decidedly different. And he
doesn't He doesn't mess around. I mean, the one thing
(16:21):
that about him is what you see is what you get.
That might be his greatest strength, it might be his
greatest fault.
Speaker 6 (16:30):
Well, to be honest with you, I think it's worked
more forum than that too, because the least you know,
you know where he stands, and uh, well yeah that's uh,
you know what he you know, what he has to
do is he really has to address the nation about
this this shutdown and put some chots up like Ross
pro used to and explain to people because people don't
(16:50):
really know you need sixty bots and we don't think
suffects anymore, you know.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
And uh and I totally agree with you on that one.
But here's the other thing, Bill. The problem is that
there are a lot of people in our country, and
I'm going to say this, I'm going to get in
trouble for it, who do not have a clue. They
do not have a clue. There are people who are
(17:15):
going to vote for Mamdani tomorrow who have no clue
about what this is going to mean for New York City.
New York City will not survive as we know it
if this guy is elected mayor of New York.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
Well, unfortunately, they're going to find out the hardway. And
it's a shame, you know what I mean. I go
to New York once in a while, just you know
it's close by. Am I leave in the morning, I
stay one night. I do a few things, and over
the years I've seen there. I took the helicopter up
over you know, Lower Manhattan and went over on the
Statue of Liberty, great views, and you know it's expensive city.
(17:50):
But I've had cousins come in and I'll meet him
in New York and we'll do something. We'll go to
Little Lialy. I took him to Yankee Stadium this year.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
I guess the tickets.
Speaker 6 (17:59):
I was down in the Bronx with him.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
And but you know the way it's going to go.
Speaker 6 (18:03):
I mean, you're gonna be.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
The morale the police departed. I could just see.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
Total do that. I mean, I mean, it's gonna be
nineteen seventies of steroids. It's a shame.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Well, I think it'd be worse than nineteen than the
nineteen seventies because most of the well to do I
think a lot of people are going to leave New
York if this guy. I mean, I know what the
taxes are in New York right now, and you just
can't give free steff away. I was talking with someone
today about the situation, and you know, he's the people
(18:35):
who were voting for him think it'll be free groceries,
it'll be free buses, it'll be free everything. Now, you
have to be a complete knucklehead if you think that
he is going to be able to provide you with
all that free stuff. I mean, it's just it's fantasy
land and people and they have done on pets goals,
(19:00):
and we will we will reap as we have sown
in New York City.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
I think it may be closer. I don't think he
wins by ten. I think it has closed a little
bit because I think the people that were like fifty
and up or late forties that maybe know a little
better or actually getting to the polls.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
I just think.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
I think that the differences across the board, I'm telling you,
I really believe that, and people do not know what
they're voting for. We'll see what happens. The races that
I'm more interested in, frankly are New Jersey and Virginia
because I want to compare how the two Republicans in
(19:43):
New Jersey and Virginia do compare to how Donald Trump
did in twenty twenty four and if they have, if
they are doing better than he did, that will be
a great sign for the Republican Party. If they're doing
worse than he did, that would be an nightmare for
the Republican Party. But we'll see.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
Woll I think I think New Jersey they got the
government workers mean goes in you know, Fairfax aloud County
to turn out and just probably get a dwarm. We'll
see what happened.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Hey, Bill and Bank here. So I got to let
you go. Thank you great call, appreciate your time, Thank
you much. One line at six one seven, two, five, four,
ten thirty and two at six one seven, nine three
one ten thirty. We're talking some politics, believe it or not.
Here on Nights side. There are big elections tomorrow in
New York City, New Jersey, and Virginia. It always happens
(20:34):
this way that in New Jersey and Virginia the governors
are elected to a four year term. They're elected in
the year after the presidential election, so we can we
can look forward to tomorrow. Of course, you have Boston
City Council's councils here in Boston. If you are listening
and you're a big supporter of someone in the Boston
City Council, you want to give us a call, that's fine,
(20:55):
be more than happy. I didn't get into the races
too much in Boston this year because there are just
so many of them. A couple of the candidates had
reached out. If they're listening and they'd like to give
themselves a plug right now, six, one, seven, two, five, four, ten,
thirty six, seven ninety Coming right back on night Side.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
It's Night Side with Boston's News Radio.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
All right, here's what we're going to do to make
this a little bit more interesting. We're going to get
you our phone calls. I promise right now. If you
want to call in and just talk, that's fine. But
we're going to run a little contest here. So here's
the deal. We have three races tomorrow. We have the
Virginia governor's race, we have the New Jersey governor's race,
(21:48):
and we have the New York City mayoral race. Those
are the three races that everybody's watching. So I want
you to give me a call and tell me you
don't even have to know their names. Okay, it's win
some seers in Virginia. She's running against a Democratic congresswoman.
(22:09):
And there's a Democratic congresswoman running against a Republican businessman
in New Jersey. And of course you have the race
in New York, which involves the socialist Mandani and former
Governor Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, who is a Republican
(22:30):
and kind of a community activist. He was the guy
who was the head of Guardian Angels. I guess he
still is. So I want to give everybody an opportunity
to tell me who's going to win, and whoever is
the first to pick the three races correctly, we'll get
a nightside coffee munk, okay, or you get a choice
(22:54):
of a nightside coffee munk or a nightside tote bag.
Simple as that from our friends at college Hype. I
talked with Jack already over the weekend, so let's have
a little bit of fun here. I need to know Virginia,
New Jersey Republican a Democrat. You can go two rs,
two d's or get split them up. And then New
York who will win the mayor's race six one, seven, two, five, four,
(23:17):
ten thirty. And what will happen is I'll take your name,
I will know who is the winner, and if if
we get a tie, then we can probably do uh
one for each. But you just got to You're going
to get the call back tomorrow night and claim your prize.
That's all you gotta do. Six one seven, two thirty,
(23:37):
six one seven, nine, three one ten thirty. Then we
go first up to Matt and Brighton. Matt next On nights.
I want to take a shot at our predictions for tomorrow.
Well else so I think Matt might not be there,
So why don't we put Matt on hold. We'll come
back to Matt, and let's call the mean time to
Frank and Boston.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Frank, you're next on the nightside.
Speaker 10 (24:02):
I interview was pretty good. I was kind of surprised
that with a new ownership of sixty minutes of that
that that channel, that organization that you know, it might
be a little tilted, but a good sign that maybe
who they won't be too much of a negative influence
(24:25):
and owning the station at station and I thought, I.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Guess we're in agreement, Frank. I thought that Nora O'Donnell
did a good interview. I thought that Donald Trump came
back at her respectfully and and there was a little
bit of fun in it, little humor. I thought, if
I was Trump's pr guy, I would say that he
had a great night. And if I were the CBS
(24:55):
I had a CBS I would say that Nora O'Donnell
acquitted herself as an viewer remarkably well. I just thought
it was good. Yes, sir, So, who who do you
think is gonna win these races tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (25:12):
Problem, well, I'm open as a trifecta. And also that's
what three three for three?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Okay, So, so so you you're rooting in Virginia for
the Democrat of the.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Republican, Oh, I'm sorry for the Democrats for the so
you want to across Okay, no problem, Democrats New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
And which Democrat in New York do you want? Mandani?
Speaker 10 (25:40):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, okay, and also a yeah, and
also and also the interview I think, which is one
of the reasons why I think was a good sign
that that that that the new owners won't tilt their
(26:03):
the information that they're sending us is Trump looked bad.
He looked totally His answers were totally disconnected. Ice ain't
doing enough, Ice ain't doing enough violence, the economy is
going good? What was what was the third one?
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (26:23):
I didn't I ain't vindictive towards these people when he
when his first thing out of his mouth was oh
I was indicted.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Okay, So so Frank, let's let's let's let's first of all,
I know how you feel about Trump, and I'm never gonna,
in any way, shape or form try to dissuade you
of your opinions. You have every right to your to.
Speaker 8 (26:45):
Your and me and you too, you have every right to.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Your point of view. What I would ask you is,
I'm gonna ask you a couple of questions. If you
want to give me a direct answer, that's great. Do
you do you feel that who did better on the
on the border on immigration in the border the Democrats
are Donald Trump?
Speaker 10 (27:10):
Neither neither?
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Okay, well one let about twenty million people in and
the others shut down the border, so neither one, okay,
no problem. Do you feel that Donald Trump did a
good thing or a bad thing, positive thing or negative
thing in hitting the Iranian and taking out the Iran
Iranian nuclear capability?
Speaker 10 (27:34):
Bad thing because we still don't know the results.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Oh? Really, I think the Iranians know the results.
Speaker 10 (27:43):
Well, we don't. We don't.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Oh, I think we have. I think we probably have
better rise on that than than than you could imagine.
But but you don't think it was a good thing.
Do you let me ask you this? Do you wish
that you wish that Iran was still frank? Frank, let
me try to ask you the question. You gave me
your answer, I heard your answer. Do you do you
think ran is closer to getting a bomb or further
(28:06):
away from getting a bomb as a result of the
the US military action.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
I think it's the same, not the same.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Okay, fair enough, Okay, let me ask you this. Do
you think it's a good idea or a bad idea
for the US military to wipe out the boats that
are allegedly bringing fentanyl and other killer drugs to America?
Speaker 10 (28:29):
As long as you don't take us into a land
war our mind. But at the same time, if you
want to really take out some people, why don't we
take out the Mexican cartels.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Well they could be Mexico, they might be next, you
never know.
Speaker 10 (28:47):
But that they should be first. Is the Mexican cartails
that are doing more damage to this country than than
the Venezuelans.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Okay, So last question in Mexico. Last question, last question. Okay. Now,
there's been a lot of controversy about who's getting arrested
and who's being deported. But but if President Trump is
(29:14):
getting rid of people who were here one illegally and
who have criminal records either from the country from which
they came or have criminal records in the US, is
that a good thing or a bad thing in your
in your mind. It's what.
Speaker 10 (29:34):
You said. If they have a criminal record, not just
for being in a country illegally, but if they have
a criminal record, then we should be going after for.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Okay, so you're gonna give Trump a little credit on that.
Okay that I got more more concessions out of you
that I would have expected. So remember tomorrow night, Frank,
if you if you get a Democratic sweep in Virginia
and New Jersey, Uh, and made wins in New York,
which is you know that could easily happen. You call
back tomorrow night during the eight o'clock hour. Uh, leave
(30:08):
your number with with Rob and we will get you
if you would like either a night side coffee mug
or a night side dope bag. One of the it'll
be your choice.
Speaker 10 (30:22):
Okay, don't don't forget about the other race. It's a
Supreme court race that is in one of these states
that's supposed to make a real big difference. I forgot what.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Yeah, well, we don't elect Supreme Court justices in Massachusetts,
and we certainly don't elect federal justices. But anyway, thank you,
Frank for your call. I got to run got some
more calls coming in, and I'll let you go. Thank you,
my friend, have a great night. Good night. We'll take
a quick break here on night Side, and we have
a couple of callers coming up. I got room for
(30:55):
you if you want to, if you want to join
and take a shot at your predictions for tomorrow. I
should have asked Bill, but I I'll get Bill. I'll
get Bill something some other night. Six one, seven, two, five,
four ten thirty, six one seven, nine three, one ten thirty.
Let's keep it rolling. Coming right back on night Side.
Feel free, I light up these lines six one seven, two, five,
(31:15):
four and six one seven, nine three one ten thirty.
I can get three or four callers in, so feel
free take a shot. You never know you might win.
Coming back on Nightside.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
It's night Side with Dan Ray on w BZZY, Boston's
news Radio.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
All right, we're talking a little politics here on the
night before an election. And again, if you're in Massachusetts
thinking to yourself, well, this is really not much going on,
get out and voted your local elections tomorrow, particularly you
folks in Medford that city council race we talked about
last week. Let me go to Jack in Westboro, Jack,
you were next on nightside. Welcome.
Speaker 9 (31:50):
All right, thank you, Dan.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
How are you good? You want to take a shot
at our our contest tonight, Well, I'll.
Speaker 9 (31:57):
Take a shot at it. Taking that for the New
Jersey race, I think the Republican gentleman will take that one. Yeah, yeah, okay,
I think down in Virginia, I think the Republicans well
(32:19):
be the winner of that race as well.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Okay, so that's two hours. Yeah, what about New York City?
Speaker 9 (32:25):
Well, I'm thinking that Mandannie could end up taking that one.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Well that's what the poll show, that's for sure. So
there's so so you you got, uh, it's mone, it's
myn it's ma'am Donnie m A M d A N
I as as I understand it. So do you think
that's gonna help New York in the long run?
Speaker 9 (32:50):
I don't think so. Personally, I don't think that would
be a good thing for the city of New York.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Yeah. I just think it's amazing that that many people
in New York could decide that that's that's the direction
we want to go. But again, I think if you
have a population of people who don't understand economics one
oh one and you got some guys saying I'm going
to give you everything, and those people figured that, hey,
(33:17):
he's on TV, he must know what he's talking about.
Speaker 9 (33:21):
Well, I think that's that's part of it there. You
might have hit it that, you know, it's he's holding
out a lot of offering that he's going to give
to people for quote unquote either free or or very little,
and people will, you know, potentially jump on that. It's
but it's it's not always that easy, as you know,
right Well, I.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Mean, I think it was Margaret Thatcher who once said
that the only problem with socialism and that eventually you
run out of other people's money. I think a good one.
I think that's what it's all about. That's for sure. Hey, Jack,
I appreciate your call. If you called before, is it's
your first time calling?
Speaker 9 (33:59):
No, yeah, a long time. Let's say your first time callege.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Dan, Well, we got to keep your laws. What happens
is people listen, and I wish you the best of luck.
I hope you uh you'll win tomorrow. We'll see how
that works out.
Speaker 9 (34:12):
Okay, Thank you, Sar, and I love your show, and
come on back see how it goes tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Come back, more frequently. Okay, thank you much, Thanks Jack,
all right, thank you. Let me get the Bill in
New York. Now, Bill is in New York, so he's
got to have some insights in this race. Bill, Welcome
to Night's side. How are you, sir?
Speaker 8 (34:33):
Fantastic Dan and yourself?
Speaker 2 (34:35):
I'm doing okay tonight. So, uh, you want to take
a shot at uh at these three races. There their
high profile races, and they may be an indicator of
where the country is right now.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (34:50):
So I'm gonna go with Democratic in uh.
Speaker 11 (34:53):
Virginia, Democrat in Virginia, Yeah, yeah, Republican in New Jersey, Okay,
and Mandami Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Again. I think that it's very very interesting. I guess
it's mem Donnie. That mom Donnie. I guess I was
corrected about the proper pronunc pronunciation of his name. Thirty
four year old guy born in Uganda. He has dual
(35:25):
citizenship and soon could be the mayor of New York.
Speaker 8 (35:29):
Only nice part about it is the nice part about
it is Governor Holkel endorsed him, which really upset a
lot of people, which leads the door open for Alice
Stephonic to come in and be the candidate for the
(35:49):
Republican Party for the governor of New York and race
next year.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
I guess the only one that is held out is
Chuck Schumer. I believe that a Keem Jeffreys made a comment.
You know, President President, former President Bush was a former
President Obama, excuse him, was campaigning for the Democrats in
Virginia and New Jersey. Remember a year ago he was
lecturing black men to vote for Kamala Harris, particularly because
(36:19):
she was a black woman. So he just is campaigning
now for the white woman in Virginia against a black,
black female Republican lieutenant governor. These guys are tough to
figure out. Yeah, it's a full time job sometimes, Bill.
Speaker 8 (36:35):
Well, it is. But you know, it all goes back
to the best person for the job, not the.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Race or no question, no question. But I think I
think with Obama, the best person of the job always
has the the D behind their name. Bill. I appreciate
you calling anyone. We've got to get one more in here,
so we will talk soon. Okay, Thanks Bill, Thank you, Dan,
talk to you soon. Good night. All right. Let me
go next to Patricia in framing him on this Monday night. Hi, Patricia,
(37:03):
how are you tonight.
Speaker 12 (37:05):
Oh I'm fine. How are you?
Speaker 2 (37:07):
I'm doing just great. Thank you for calling in. I'm
just curious if you want to participate in a little
bit of a fun poll here.
Speaker 12 (37:15):
Yeah, yeah, Mandani, I think he's going to get it.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Okay, yep, that everybody thinks Mandami at this point.
Speaker 12 (37:24):
And the other two, the other two I think Republican.
The other two, I'm going to go with the Republican.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
In both of in both of them. Okay, Well, we've
had some some differences of opinion here, and leave your
phone number with Rob, because whoever wins, I'd like you
to call in tomorrow night and you can take a
victory lap as to your your your ability to predict
political races. So I'd love to love to be able
(37:56):
to award you either a tote bag or or a
coffee mark on us.
Speaker 12 (38:00):
Okay, okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Hang in there. Give Rob your phone number so we
can make sure. I don't want any impostors calling in
tomorrow night and saying that they predicted. No, because I
know who's called, and I know who hasn't called so far,
So we am gonna wrap the night here. I'll tell
you we're back tomorrow night. We're going to be talking
tomorrow night at nine o'clock with a guest we had
(38:27):
last week about seasonal effective disorder. Uh. There are a
lot of people out there who when when summer turns
to fall, but more importantly, when the clocks go backwards
as they did last night and you and you gain
(38:48):
an hour's worth of sleep, that you lose an hour's
worth of daylight in the afternoon. You don't lose any
light generally, but it affects them. And we'll talk about
that tomorrow night at nine o'clock, and we'll talk about
politics tomorrow night. Will also continue to watch the problem
with the beneficiaries. The folks who are out there are
receiving help from the government, and that help is going
(39:11):
to be at least delayed. We'll get to all of that,
the snap beneficiaries. Okay, I am done for the night,
Rob Brooks, thank you very much, welcome back, Thank you,
hope you had a good vacation. Nice night tonight, and
happy Tuesday tomorrow. And also I will end as always tonight,
remind you that first of all, I thank the callers.
I thank the listeners, but I thank the callers especially
(39:33):
all dogs, all cats, all pets go to heaven. That's
my pet, Charlie Rais, who passed fifteen years ago in February.
That's why all your pets are who are pasted. They
loved you when you love them. I do believe you'll
see them again. Hope seek you in Tomorrow night on
nightside everyone. I will be on night Side with Dan
Ray and Facebook in about a minute and a half.
Join us back on tomorrow night.
