A Chelmsford Wildlife Group Is Setting Up Homes For Local Owls

Pest controls and rodenticides can be effective at cracking down
or too unwanted critters, but it often leaves local birds
of prey as collateral damage.

What happens is the hawks, owls, eagles go down and
eat them, eat the mice that are in the wild,
and then they get poisoned and then they eventually die
or have like little hard conditions.

That's Derek Sue Who the founder of Rescue Raptors, a
group campaigning to stop the use of dangerous rodenticides here
on the Chelmsford Town Common. They're trying to bring awareness
to one of the nearly eighty communities that are involved
in local animal Rehabilitators are showing on how poisons impact birds,
and kids are decorating special owl boxes, which are massive
bird houses that will go up in the town's conservation

area to give owls a safe place to nest. So
Who says it's important to get kids involved in the cause.

It's actually really important for children now to figure out, like,
you know, the stuff that we're learning about now as adults,
to how how they can save wildlife from Chelmsford.
