Once again, it appears rent control is on a deathbed.
On Beacon Hill, advocates for a proposal to give local
communities the option of capping rents marched on the State
House today where a legislative committee held a public hearing
on the proposal.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
We need common sense rent stabilization policies past.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Now, because Carolyn chu is with the group Homes.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
For All, we're seeing tenants get fifty seventy five percent
rent increases.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
We are seeing more and more people have to leave
their cities.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
In towns, and even leave the state because of these
rent increases.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
But those arguments have failed to convince legislative leaders, including
House Speaker Ron Mariano, to act Session ends.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
Seriously, it's no rent controlled piece in front of me.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Rent control advocates have fought for thirty years to put
a cap on rent statewide, but they continue to fight
