Volt Hockey is a specialized adaptive version of floor ball,
which is essentially the European version of street hockey. Players
are in specialized wooden power chairs with a paddle attached
to the front. The first ever US volt Hockey team
was founded right here in Boston thanks to a generous donation.
Laura Calderon coaches the Boston Whiplash and says the chairs
are imported from Denmark, where the sport was founded.

The chairs themselves, because they're custom made for the sport,
they're quite expensive. It's important for the sport that the
chairs are all sort of the same so everybody has
like a level playing field.

Desi forty plays for the Whiplash and has been to
the last two World Cups. She says the game is
important because it lets people with disabilities take part in
team sports.
