Boston’s Pine Street Inn Homeless Shelter Prepares Annual Thanksgiving Meal

If you ever cook Thanksgiving for a crowd, finished product,

I need over five hundred pounds of turkey breast, just
turkey breast.

How about a crowd of four thousand? That's the job.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Frank van Overbeek is saddled with as the executive chef
at the Pine Street End. He has to start planning
the famous Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless months aheat a time,
and by this point the prep is non stop.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
Cooking, cooling, slicing and so on for the whole week.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Seven hundred pounds of potatoes is a lot to juggle,
but they actually make all of that the day of.

Speaker 5 (00:27):
And on top of that, we're still doing those other
thirty seven hundred meals every day, so we have to
kind of squeeze out all in between you.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
But Frank says, this is a hugely important time for
the people here.

Speaker 5 (00:36):
It's got to be the low point of anyone's life.
It's really going to be driven home around holidays.
