Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School Raises Sports Participation Fees

Starting this upcoming school year, parents of Bridgewater Rainham students
will have to pay six hundred dollars per student per
sport for middle school and high school athletics. That's up
from three hundred and sixty dollars this past year. And
on top of that, the new plan approved by the
school committee scraps a family cap that was set at
seven hundred and twenty dollars. The school committee says the
hikes are necessary to bridge a budget gap and to
help make the athletics program more self sufficient. That hasn't

stopped some parents from gawking at the price tag.

Now I'm against it, but I would rather have them
cancel sports than get rid of any teachers. But to
make someone pay six hundred dollars is ridiculous.

I have three girls in two One of my three
already play softball in the down, so that's an issue
that we're going to have when they get to high
school too.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
The decision to increase fees comes after an override vote
that would have given the district over eight hundred million
