Cambridge Puts A Pause On Implementing New License Plate Reading Technology

After a unanimous vote, the Cambridge City Council is pausing
the use of license played reader technology. At their last meeting,
counselors reiterated their concerns that data collected by cameras could
be shared with the federal government, specifically with immigration and
customs enforcements. Now Riley works in Cambridge and likes the move.

We should have some sort of privacy and I think
that is a huge infringement on it. So I'm actually
pretty happy go Cambridge on that one.

Others like Matilda will like to learn more about the technology.

I'd want to know if there's evidence of that being
used previously, and also about how often the technology is
actually used to catch crime.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Several counselors also said the technology and company behind it
should be reviewed more and if there are alternative options
