Codman Burial Ground Under Construction To Honor The Community And History

Codman Burial Ground isn't just in Dorchester, It's part of
the foundation that built the neighborhood. Inside its angel wing
shaped ground, you can find names like Codman, Talbot, Gleason,
the people whose names now don streets and squares. But
Reverend Doctor Victor Price with the Second Church of Dorchester
tells me it's come a long way.

When I came in, you couldn't see through the cemetery
this bush.

Years of neglect are now being reversed. It all started
after they asked the community what they wanted to see
in the space.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Out of these ideas, we said, okay, we can blend
the secret space with a social space, so it's like
ticking holy places and as in social spaces to holy places.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
The social space will include a walking path, a playground,
an amphitheater in space for food trucks. The sacred space
will have educational materials about the people buried there. Work
on the first phase is expected to be done by
