Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you're seeing and hearing more coyotes around, it's not
your imagination. Even in the city.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Right now is coyote mating season, and this is a
time where coyotes are more active, they can be more vocal.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Mass wildlife biologists Magan Crawford says coyotes were first spotted
in Massachusetts in the nineteen fifties. They originated further west
and migrated. And I might surprise you, but coyotes are
fully at home in urban spaces. All the human trash
gives them a ready food source, and they can hide
in small parks and green spaces.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
So it is not uncommon to have coyotes in these
really developed spaces like Boston, like Worcester, Springfield.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
As they lurk around humans, the coyotes become a little bolder.
That can be a problem for our pets, which they
sometimes see as food. Crawford says, the key is to
keep them scared.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Step outside, use that nice dominant body language, wave your
arms above your head, shout at them, walk in their direction.
