Peter Randall's family has lived in Duxbury for twelve generations
and he loves the history. But the state has its
eyes set on one of his favorite landmarks.

The state wants to come in and they want to
build a massive concrete and steel bridge.

NOSDOT is looking to replace the all wood powder Point
bridge that makes the iconic thumping when cars drive over.
The agency says the bridge is in a state of
disrepair and needs to go, but there appears to be
significant opposition here. People will think this is part of
Duxbury's foundation.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
In nineteen forty one, my grandfather was head of the
Highway department for Duxbury and so he inherited the bridge
and would make all the repairs every year.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Close to six thousand people have signed a petition to
have it kept and repaired instead. That's more than a
third of the small town's population. Christine Hall is also
on the save our Bridge campaign.

It's a very unique place in the world and we
want to keep it.
