She was here during the formation of our new country
and she decided that she was going to be a patriot.

This is Sharon's town heroine. Deborah Sampson, the first woman
to enlist and fight in the Revolutionary War. Steve Connolly's

Her first attempt failed as disguised as a man named
Timothy Thayer. Her second attempt succeeded.

Under a fake name. She fought the British for about
a year and a half and was wounded before finally
being found out by a doctor.

Discharged and lived in Sharon for the rest of her life.
