Gloucester Public Works Turns Drop-Off Site Into "Recycle Beach" During Strike

With Republic Service workers still on strike, Gloucester residents have
been dropping off their own recycling for the past couple
of weeks at a temporary drop off site at the
Department of Public Works, and crews want to ease the stress.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We figured we just lighten the mood a little bit
and give them just something to maybe laugh at.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
That's Tommy Nolan, the Public Service is superintendent here. He's
the man that came up with the idea for recycled beach.
Right next to where the cars pull up, they have
a little pile of sand, a lifeguard stand, a cooler,
and even a tiny waiting pool with a rubber duck
floating around. He says, they're grateful for everybody doing their
part to navigate a tough time.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Well, it's more work, but it's more frustration for the
people too, So we're just going to keep doing whatever
we can to make it a little bit easier for
them and that we maybe be a little more forgiven
for us.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
The first time it snows, right on the red lifeguard stand,
there's a sign that says strike costs you beach time.
