Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here in the WBZ newsroom with actor Emmy Award winner
Jeremy Piven in the house. How are you, my man,
I'm good. How are you doing good? Thanks for taking
some time. I know you're busy.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
No, it's all good.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
You got a big show coming up in Boston. Here
a Friday night gig at the Wilbur Tell me a
little bit about it.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
The Wilber Theater is comics. Basically, they film their specials
there because not only is it just this beautiful theater,
but the great thing about the Boston crowd is I'm
from Chicago and they remind me of Chicago and the
way that they're very honest, like you got to earn
their laughs, and if they're not feeling it, they're gonna
let you know sure. And so we all love a

(00:37):
good Boston crowd. So I'm excited to be there. And
a lot of people don't know that I do stand
up and so I'm telling stories from my life from
the set. Maybe you know a few Ari Gold stories
about you know, doing lines with my mom, I mean
running lines, I'm sorry, running lines with my mom and
she would cue me, you know, when I would do
lines for Ari Gold, And yeah, sorry, it's early in

(01:00):
the morning, and you know, I'm not a morning It's funny,
like you get these actors and these comics in the morning,
and like we're supposed to be switched on. It takes
us a minute.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Oh I hear you, man, Yeah it must be true, right,
because I mean I remember Entourage when I was in
college is one of the biggest shows. I mean, that's
all we watched back in the day. It must have
opened you up to a whole different kind of fan
base that and a lot of people probably know you
from that and come to check out the stand up. Right.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, let's hug it out, bitch. That's what you get
as soon as I get on stage, and like, that's
my demographic right there.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
It never gets old.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well it does get really old, but then you got
to make it new. You got to make it fresh.
And there's a whole new audience since the pandemic of
these kids late teens, early twenties that have seen Entourage.
So the audience it's funny. It's like nineteen to ninety
out there, and it's really fun. And you know it's
my job to make them all laugh. I do impressions,

(01:51):
I do stallone you know you want to interview me
as stallone. That'll wake me up. If you interview me
as stalone, I'll have to wake up. Good not everyone
there you go, Yeah, we guys a little stallone.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
That coffee is working for you. Good right there. Comedy
in twenty twenty five, What is what a stand up
life in the world of cell phones and social media?
I bet it can be annoying.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
You got you gotta be on your toes because the
reality is, you know, if someone you walk on stage
and they're they're kind of still on their phone in
the front row, and you're like, I'm sorry, you googling
me to see if I'm funny. I'm right here, put
your phone down, let's go. And then you know, but yeah, man,
that's what's so fun about the live audience. When you're

(02:34):
doing a film or TV. Obviously you know it's controlled circumstances,
but you're dealing with all these variables where you got
to kind of call an audio audible. Someone yells something
out and you got to go with it and have
fun and it changes. And the thing is that that
there's so many happy accidents, you know, like you know,
they they want to let me know like they're are

(02:55):
a gold and it's like, no, you are a gold.
I'm not. I'm a stage actor from Chicago, And so
you get to unpack that and then that's really fun
and then selfishly they get a sense of who I am,
and you know it's I love it because no two
shows are ever the same. Yeah, and if you really
just commit to all these bits, you know you can't

(03:17):
go wrong.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
This must be an adrenaline rush out there. Speaking of that,
I hear he's still drumming out there. I know you're
a great drummer.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I love to play the drums. I mean, like the
other night, I just I did a set and then
jumped on the kid and I'll do it anywhere. I
remember playing once with Kid Rock actually was like a
save the Music thing at the House of Blues. And
I've never told the story, but like you know, he
we were neighbors in Malibu and I would just always

(03:46):
have these parties and I would literally sit on the
drum kit the whole day and I had I was
lucky enough to have all these you know, musicians come
and have fun. And so this particular time, I thought
we were gonna play because he's a cow boy baby
goo goom, going ging go. I'm in the pocket right
and so I'm ready to go. And and all of

(04:10):
a sudden, you know, he looks out there and he's like, man,
we got some of the remaining members of Leonard skinnerd
out there. Let's bring him up. I'm like, wow, what's
going on? And they're amazing and they get up on
stage and and what do you want to play? Let's
play rock and Roll by led Zeppelin. Counted off and
I was like, rock, I've never played this song. I
was like counting off one, two, three, four. You know,

(04:30):
been alone time, I've been alone lonely, and and all
of a sudden, I've got no in ears, I've got
no and I'm just I've never played it in my life.
And I'm and I'm and I'm struggling, but you know,
I'm I'm finding the pocket. And afterwards he was furious.
He was like, do you need a metronome? I'm like, yeah,
I do, I do kid rock, I need a metro.

(04:51):
I didn't know I've never played that song. You know,
I'm an actor.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
You're my least favorite neighbor. Now for call him out audible, Yeah,
bless him was he a good neighbor.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Uh, you know, he's great man. He you know, guys
like that are just their total legends. You know, they're
you know, they say, don't don't meet these heroes. But
he's one of these guys who just lives a life.
He's a real rock star and and he cares, you know,
he cares about the music. And he's he's great live
and and people that have seen him know that. And uh,

(05:21):
he takes it really seriously and and he you know,
he goes for it. He's he's authenticity parties and he
gets after it.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Well, thank you for your time today, man, Jeremy Pivot
in the house.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Thank you, buddy.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Oh get it man, that was great. In the WBZ newsroom,
I'm Drew o'holland,
