Local Theater Group Campaigns To Revive Attleboro's Union Theater

The Union Theater in Attleborough has been shuttered for some
twenty years, but it's poised for a comeback.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It was originally built as a warehouse in nineteen twenty five,
but then converted to a theater in nineteen twenty eight.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
The local organization Illuminate Arts is spearheading the effort to
reopen this century old theater, which started out with Vonville
acts and moved on to movies. Jennifer Keating is the
executive director. She says, thanks to the current owners, the
inside of the theater doesn't actually look too bad, so people.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Think that they're coming into a theater that is falling apart,
but it's largely intact.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Keating says this was a gathering spot for generations of
Attleborough residents and groups are lining up to perform there
once it.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Opens, so we envision this space being a place for
the performing arts for sure. Illuminate this will be our
home base.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
They've gathered together eight hundred grand, more than half of
