Massachusetts Legislature Working Towards Law To Protect Online Data

Senator Michael Morris's data protection Massachusetts is in a sorry state.

And also it allows now companies to collect data that
they don't need for their business plan and to sell it.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
That's why he sponsored the mass Data Privacy Act to
crack down on some of the data wheeling and dealing
that he says modern companies do with our information. The
bill would ban or limit the sale of many different
kinds of data to third parties like race, sex, orientation,
or even your exact location. With that last one, they
want to avoid states hostile to abortion finding out if
someone's been here.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Either one of these bills passed, or I think Massachusetts
WI will have one of the stronger bills in the country.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Another provision letting people opt out of targeted ads and
batting them outright for children. The bill is rapidly making
its way through the House, now passed unanimously in the Senate.
