Mural Stolen From Cambridge Arcade, Owner Wants Answers

It was like a scene out of the Gardner Museum heist.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
When I went there, it was so gone that I
was like, you know, I thought maybe someone might rip it.
And I looked at the anchor bolts, and in the
anchor bolts was you could tell it was cut with
a box cutter or scissors.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
That's Sean Hope, the odor of Central Square's DX Arcade.
He was just checking in on his business on Labor
Day weekend when he realized his mural was gone. The
mural was printed on a screen and depicted what he
describes as a futuristic version of Central Square. It was
meant to be a digital tribute to the many murals
you can find throughout the neighborhood. Hope says the theft
was a gut punch, especially after some people were angry
that the artist used AI to help make it.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I think there was a comment by somebody who said,
I'm glad it's down because I don't think AI should
be making art, and I'm like, so now, when we
don't like art, we wanted to be taken down, as
opposed to you know, expressing your opinion about it.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Hope ads he doesn't think that played a role in
the theft, but he's hoping to get the original back
