Pedestrian Only Sundays Begin on Newbury Street in Boston

Open Newberry returns to its full summer glory. For the
next ten Sundays, Newberry Street in Boston will be closed
to cars, letting pop up tents spring up like wildflowers
along the pavement. The store owners are grateful for the
fresh air.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
You get to really interact with more people who might
not necessarily notice that there is a storefront because Newberry
is so congested, so this kind of takes down the
walls for us.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Jamie Smith is with Polka Dog selling dog treats to
myriad four legged customers. Thousands of people mill around the
street at their leisure for ten hours, shopping and sipping coffee.
This was the first open Newberry for many owners. I
talked to bon Vivant Vintage opened up an outpost here
a couple months ago.

We're kind of like in the dark without a flashlight
because it's our first year, so we're just kind of
seeing how things go.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
And open Newberry Lifers like a mirror say it's not
slowing down. They say the event is always good for
tons of foot traffic.

Definitely the business every year, who just surprisedly is getting
better and better.
