The inspiration for this exhibit, which is called Ways of
Making People Disappear, was something that happened a couple years ago.

I started this project two years ago when I saw
the news about O'shae Sibley being killed for being queer
in New York, and I thought about visibility and about
how can't we just live.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
All the pictures from Roxbury photographer Michelle Shapiro show gay
and trans individuals doing normal things, riding bikes, reading a book,
and then that's right next to a second picture where
everything is the same except no people.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
And it's a visual reminder of what's at stake in
the political climate now and always when we target one
group and say you can't do that, you can't be that.
