Salem Food Pantry Providing Clients Custom Tailored Food

Usually food pantries are a take what you can get,
but the Greater Boston Food Bank and its local partners
are trying for a more custom approach. They're now giving
out boxes of food tailored to people with particular medical
issues who need to eat on a specific diet.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We do think that they are overlooked in a sense,
and we're really leaning into the foodist medicine angle with
a lot of our work.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Kia Fernandez with the Salem Pantries says, these boxes go
out to people with things like heart disease, diabetes, or
high risk pregnancies. That can mean a low sodium box,
a little sugar box, or a number of other things
based in the condition.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
This is one of the ways that we're making sure
that we're helping people, especially food and secure people who
are going to struggle with the medical bills along with
their grocery bills.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
So far, it's been a small pilot, but Kia says
