State Rep. And Peabody Mother Behind 'Freddy's Law'

Freddy Espinall's family says he was a light in the
world and loved being a wrestler. It's now been over
a year since he died after he went into sudden
cardiac arrest during a practice, something his family believes could
have been prevented if he had an EKG on his heart.
That's why his mom, Adele Labonte, and his sister Alexis
are taking action.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We need to turn this grief into something that's positive,
because who knows how many other families out there are
going through this.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
They partnered with State Rep. Tom Walsh to create Freddy's
Law that would require high school athletes get a free
EKG as a part of their sports. Physical Representative Walsh
says it's a no brainer.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
It seems to me that it would be far less
expensive to have everyone have an EKG who's playing sports,
then wait until an unfortunate incident occurs, and then be
looking for a go fund me money when we can
save lives.

The bill has a hearing next month from PbD Kyle Bray, WBZ,
