Tariffs Expected To Impact Seafood Prices Ahead of Labor Day

Labor Day weekend means lots of work at Melanie's Fish Market.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
They'll land the fish tonight, we'll cut it up tomorrow
morning and it'll be in the display cases tomorrow and
we'll be on on the trucks going to look with
deliveries for the restaurants.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Owner Joe By Norton says his team and local fishermen
work fast to keep shelves stocked with fresh local seafood.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Your cod, you had it, you sold, your hallibig, scallops, whiteing, hake, monk,
all the stuff that these guys catch in Situate we
really specialize in. Unfortunately, the price is sorta tarifts are
going to start coming into a play and some of
the stuff that we can get in from overseas, like
we get a lot of salmon from Norway.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Even without tariffs, market prices shift daily, so buying local
offerings is usually your best bet For us New Englanders.
That means there's no such thing as being selfish when
stocking up on shellfish.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Well, we get us out of Massachusetts, which is great,
it's great quality, it's consistent.
