Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, I got Hayden Arnott on the line with
us here. They're getting set for a whale of a
time at MGM Boston Whale Jam. It's coming back to Boston.
Very excited. Hayden, how are you, my man?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm doing great. I can't complain. I can't believe third
annual Whale Jam in Boston's pretty crazy that we've grown
from Big Night Live to Roadrunner to you know, the
one and only MGM Music Hall. So we're quite excited.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
How did you get involved with all this?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
First of all, Yeah, that's a great question. So basically,
I've always been interested in music. I have a music
booking background. I started Nantucket Crisp the Potato Chrie Company
off Nantucket three years ago because I always wanted to
find a way to embody in Nantucket and a product
and all those flavors are inspired by beaches, locations, events, restaurants, Styland,
but we want to have a nonprofit component to it all.
(00:46):
And when Nantucket was a whaling capital of the world,
they overhunted the North Lank right whale North Atlantic. That's
where they lived. Right whale because it's the right wheel
to hunt, because it's only the end because they're slow,
and so I'm close to shore. There's three seventy left
in the world right now. So we started this business
for like, let's find a way, you know, donate a
portion of sales of them. But so many brands just
do that, They just donate, and I wanted to do more.
So I figured music accuracy is a huge way to
(01:08):
combine the two, using music as a platform to bring
in fans to come for the music and stay for
a cause. So, you know, we started this a few
years ago and now here we are. So it's pretty
awesome combining you know, these amazing musicians you have, my
brand helped put it together, all for a great cause.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Awesome you get you land o Ar as kind of
the headliner here this time around, and I know they've
been a part of your fundraising efforts before, but very
cool to have Oar the whole band in town.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Oh yeah, it's awesome because you know, historically the last
few shows have been you know, eight to nine different
acoustic artists, all singing difference from their bands without the
rest of their band. And this year we decided to
go full on. So you know, Mark Roberts has played
every show in Boston, which is amazing. And now we
have the full band coming which is pretty cool, and
you know, we have support from the DIP which we're
(01:58):
really excited about. I believe to sold out show at
House of Blues last fall we had the Brook and
the Bluff coming or amazing. And then you know, I
think something that I'm really personal excited about is Jason Biggs,
the actor, is going to be our host for the
evening and he's very close with the O R team
and you know, we all love Jason Biggs from American
Pie and all the films he's been and over the years,
(02:20):
so we're super excited to have him on board and
support this cause that's great.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
When you think about all these artists that have come
together over the years, it is funny. I noticed you
My musical taste seem to overlap with yours a lot
a lot, but a lot of these artists they just
seem very generous with their time and it seems like
when you put the nonprofit aspect into this, it just
gets a lot of artists on board. And my accurate
and saying that.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Does and it gets artists on board, but also to
be honest, it weads out the artists who do these
types of things and don't do these types of things
in my line of like work, I've actually never met
an artist who wasn't fantastic, who wasn't a great person,
because I think that by doing like you know, if
you're going to sign up to do a nonprofit show
or something along those lines, you're probably going to be
(03:04):
a pretty generous, awesome, fun, caring person. So it's been
really unique to have like so many great friends that
I could have come out of this over the years.
And you know, Mark and I talked all the time,
and I thought it was pretty special that you know,
Mark from the first show now being the first full
band for will Jams, So it's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
And he cares about the whales. They're crazy too. I
was just having an off the record conversation with him
one night, and I remember he knew more about whales
and the issues with the boats and all that stuff
than you ever could have imagined.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, he's awesome and he knows about the vessel strikes
and all that stuff. And I think it's what's really
cool about him is you know, we've had him at
the Nantucket a few times. He played a really intimate
show on the island for three hundred people with Matt
from Mountjoy and Chad from Dispatch and obviously himself, and
at one point all three of them went on stage
from three hundred people and saying a song by the
(03:55):
band up on Cripple Creek, which is pretty fun, but
you know, it's awesome. I think even Mark has a
song called Nantucket's Gone, which is pretty unique. So the
fact that there is a connection there and the story
of that song is he lives in New York and
there's this big red boat that comes in out of
harbor between Nantucket and tried backa every year and it
says Nantucket on it, and he wrote the song about
(04:17):
how when the boat's gone, it's kind of like the
times are changing, seasons are changing, and there's a time
of like kind of change and whatnot. So there's so
many synergies there that we're really excited about.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
I learned something new about that song. Thank you hating
that So I did not realize that, all right, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I know the song. I didn't know the story. Very cool.
What's the little background too? You kind of hinted at
it there earlier, but I don't think I've ever had
a chance to ask you you started Nantucket Crisp and
what's the how did that start? You?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Just?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Were you a business background that.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Now honestly like, I'm just a very creative type and
honestly like, I'm a sales marketing person and I've gone
to Nantucket my whole life and families coln under since
like to late sixties and essentially for me, like, there's
a few things I really love in this world, and
one is I love creating and putting things together, like
creating a whole concepts and bringing it to life. And
(05:08):
Nantucket is that, like I've it's such a pivotal part
of my life. And being able to take all those
experiences from my childhood and embody it in a product
that anyone can enjoy is super key to me. So
the concept is, you know, every flavor is a different beach, location, event, restaurant,
and this way I'm able to embody those amazing restaurants
or those amazing beaches, or those memories I have into
(05:29):
a bag of chips that anyone can enjoy, whether they're
two years old or one hundred years old, or five
dollars in their pocket or a million dollars in the
pocket because you can have a little splice of that
Nantucket experience, which is super key to me. And it's unique.
It's like, you know, even when you're not here, it
brings you right back. And even if you don't know
what Nantucket is, the packaging is super unique and fun
and it really kind of draws you and to learn
(05:50):
more about it. And you know, funny enough, we just
opened up a Nantucket Chriss store and seaport for the
summer in Boston. I saw that, which is awesome, and
then we just opened up our Nantucket store three to
four days ago. And for us, like we wanted to
have a store where people can come in and have
an amazing experience and meet our employees and have a
great time of us where we sell merch and chips
(06:10):
and we do tastings and we have musicians come in.
Because I think one of the most important things for
me is and I think you can kind of tell
this is not just the bag of chips, This isn't
just lazy. This is a company that has so much
more depth to it in terms of what we do,
in terms of our nonprofit component mission, in terms of
the story we're trying to tell and that's kind of
what we're really going for. We're trying to tell the
(06:31):
story of Nantucket and tie it to its whaling history
and righting the wrong to the pastital so sell this
fun experience that everyone wants to get behind. You know,
this summer we have eleven shows at Cisco Brewers on
Nantucket for Whale Jam, a summer series where we have
artists from Flip Turn to Steven Morley to Vertical Horizon
to Pepper to Smallpools, the Brook and the Bluff you know,
(06:53):
all playing which we're really excited about. And those are
all daytime shows in the summer. So this whale Gem
series is continuing and Decide for the nonprofits. Really fun
that we're getting out there and having people come out
and have a fun time and dance and really get
this in the line with you know, really amazing musicians
who you know are willing to donate their time and
fly from across the country to this little island that's
(07:14):
thirty miles out to see that's only fourteen hours long.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Awesome, man, give me thirty thirty seconds we have left here.
Give me the one final sales pitch on what people
can expect here, come will jam and how to get
tickets to.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yeah, I mean, honestly, it's gonna be a freaking epic then.
I mean, I think Oer, the Dip of the Brook
and The Bluff are just such incredible bands. They're so
dynamic that jam and have such great harmonies and musicianship
that it's gonna be a total blast. And then having
Jason Biggs via MC in between each set bringing the
laughs is key. There's gonna be a lot of amazing
brands there. There's gonna be free Nantucket Chriss for everyone
(07:47):
all night long. And it doesn't really get much better
than MGM Music Hall, especially in the summertime. And we
picked the Tuesday because people are always leaving in the summertime,
So you know, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are there two days
of the week that I know people are gonna be into.
But it's going to be a super special time. These
are amazing bands and we're really lucky to bring together
for such a great cause. And you know, each I'll
(08:08):
put it this way. You know, Or has a full
two hour set, so you get to see it's like
seeing a full OR show, and then you get a
forty five minute opening set from the Brook and the
Bluff a forty five minute set from the Dip. So
it's a pretty once in a lifetime unique experience where
we all get the dance groove for a good cause.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
At MGM Music all Boston. Gotta be fun. Hey to arnout.
Thank you so much for the time, man, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
You bet brother, Stay crispy. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (08:33):

the WBZ Newsroom, Boston,
