Apartment 7A pledges to take the same route as Rosemary's Baby, not discovering any fresh opportunities or developments that would offer its prequel a distinct personality. The only aspect of the story that retains its authenticity is Terry's occupation. Like Rosemary, Terry is doted upon by the Castevets. They deceive her with unending presents and kindness, the same ones they will later bestow upon Rosemary, and they orchestrate a demonic pregnancy complete with the same drug-induced rite. Terry resembles a cross between Rosemary's affable demeanor and Guy Woodhouse's aspirational professional path. Despite being aware of the direction her story is taking, Garner adds nuance and makes it easy to root for her.
