Jesus stated that the generation that sees the fig tree "put forth its leaves" (i.e., Israel restored as a nation) will not pass away until all end-time events take place. Since Israel became a nation in 1948, Bern illustrates how the world is in the final generation preceding Christ's return and the seven-year Tribulation period, which Revelation primarily addresses.
