Speaker 1 (00:02):
What would you talk about on your on your podcast?
Firms Presents fifteen minute morning show? Weakens over back to
work doing the show. Never doing a podcast fifteen minutes worth,
it's all you get. Let the people know right up front.

(00:23):
Yea less than fifteen minutes. Now, somebody somebody asked me
how long the podcast is the fifteen minute morning show.
It was one of our sales guys. He go, hey,
I just need some facts and figures on the podcast
so we can start selling it. How long is it?
It's fifteen minutes. That reminds me of when t asked
what day they tape Saturday Night Live? I'm never gonna
live it? Down and down. You did that because I

(00:46):
thought it was just a title Saturday Night Live. I'm
thinking to myself, there's no way, how do they do that?
How do they move the SATs and do all that stuff?
Like they've got to like pre tape it, and they
just call it because it's it's Saturday night and they
thought it'd be cool to called Saturday a Live. I like,
when where were we? Oh? We were just here? Great tasked.
So do they have fireworks? Do they celebrate July four

(01:09):
in London? Why not? It's a festive down in festive time.
Who cares, not for them? But well, well I get it.
I didn't. I didn't know because you know what you know, Okay,
July four is what it's just when they put the
fireworks up and they you know, why why do we
celebrate on July fourth? It's some kind of holiday for
America or something. I just know. But you know, because

(01:30):
it's just I know that it's when they blow up
some fireworks. Every town has fireworks, everybody goes out. There's
a reason to celebrate July four. I just think that
some of these holidays have kind of like lost its luster.
You know, you really want to blow your mind. No,
I get it. I'm I'm sure there's something behind it.
Thanksgiving they don't celebrate that in England. Yeah, I think
they're missing out on any other country or any other

(01:50):
country around the world. And he's like, don't they celebrate Thanksgiving?
Why are they missing what are they missing out on?
I just think that all these holidays has have lost
what they're really about, and they're just kind of like sales.
It obviously has lost its meaning because you don't have
a clue why we celebrate July four. They don't have
to anymore. It's but you're still why why do we

(02:10):
celebrate July four? Because it's like independence day from from
who's back in seventeen seventy six when when they found
America they found it. No, they come on when they
when they are independent of England and they became So
why would they celebrate four in England? They wouldn't unless

(02:32):
they have they like, thank god we're rid of them,
but we don't have the US anymore. It's more fun
to just say it's a holiday for big sales and
television sets and things like that. I did hear that
Cinco de Mayo is not a big deal in Mexico.
There you go, it's not. It's not, it's not. That's ridiculous,
I hear. I'm thinking that we're celebrating them just because
it's if there's something in Spanish you think they have
to celebrate. It's a big thing here. It's a big

(02:54):
drinking holiday for us. So I'm thinking, like, wow, if
we're if we're having a good time here in America,
what are they doing right now and next go for
this holiday? You know, it also is not a big
holiday in Mexico. What Hanka just science another one. You
guys have thought this. Garrett has joined us. I just
walked in. Did you already talk about Columbus Day with him?
With Greg? T Oh, No, we want to go down
that one. No, just just talking about holidays that are

(03:16):
just quote unquote to him, just celebrating sales and stuff.
Why are we off for Columbus Day? Why are some
off for Columbus? But I mean, evidently the man found
America evidently right well today where we are today, I
mean it's debatable on who really found what that I
would agree with you. That's what I'm actually, that's where Columbus. Actually,
there's more and more mounting controversy about Columbus Day and

(03:40):
why we're celebrating Christopher Columbus. I think it becomes a
time where we don't even celebrate anymore. It's kind of
like whatever. Well, even on the West Coast Columbus Day,
it doesn't get celebrated. It's recognized on the calendar. They
landed on the East coast, so the West coast is
like whatever. Creed. But yeah, I don't know why Halloween
has to be celebrated on the day that it is.
I don't know why they keeps gonna hollow we like

(04:00):
on like the last Saturday of the religious thing. I understand,
but no one really knows it like that. They just know,
like you just putting these costumes, you ring on people's doors,
and you, you know, telling the story of Halloween. Okay,
November one is on the Catholic calendar, All Saints Day,
when you celebrate all the Saints. And who's celebrating that
Catholic Catholics. There's a few of them on earth. But anyway,

(04:22):
on Halloween is a day when all the Pagans celebrated, right,
So the Catholics of the religious people celebrated on November one,
so that the pagan celebrated the day before. And he
was getting all the demons out. Do you know what
the pagan is? What he just said? Do you know listen,
I know that everybody is very there, you know, like

(04:44):
you move on. I know that there's some people that
are already when he moves on to something else. That
just makes no great debate. Actually understand that there's always
a certain amount of people that are very close to
those certain holidays that they really want to celebrate. I
get that, But the majority of the people and I

(05:05):
feel bad, but the majority of the people are kind
of in it for the fireworks, the sales, the knocking
on doors, and trick or treating and Halloween costumes. So
when it comes to that, and these holidays have become
so generalized that what does President's Day have to do
with the mattress sale? That's but there you go. I
mean you can, we can go down the line of

(05:27):
all of these holidays. What do you want to what what?
What are worthwhile holidays to you? Christmas, I guess to you,
but some half Christmas, like I know, Um, I mean, look,
I don't know. I mean, that's a good question. I
guess it's a valid question. Which are the most popular,

(05:48):
the most uh surious holidays that you have to celebrate?
That we can all agree on a New Year's Day
because we all have the same calendar of a lot
of other people have different calendars, right, the Jewish New
Year was just last week, and and the Muslim we
don't have com We don't have one common world holiday.
And I think, like about a month ago, I did

(06:08):
say to Elvis that I believe that the start of
the year is the day after Labor Day. That's when
everything it happens. This is the strangest fifteen minute morning show.
Can we start that next year? Can we have great
teas New Year? He should map out the holidays. This
is a great idea from straight Nate. I want you
to get a calendar and I want you to just
come up with your own holiday structure. Okay, whatever you

(06:30):
want it to be. But they have a reason behind
why year. You know, Halloween for me is definitely going
to be the last Saturday in October. Like, That's where
I'm going for sure, Abo all the block party can have.
He also wants to move Christmas. He said, if they
could make Thanksgiving on a Thursday, why can't we have
Christmas on a Saturday, you know for morning wake up

(06:51):
and the toys everything? Example, who wants Christmas on a Tuesday? Even?
Why does it have to be every year? Is what
he wants to Sunday. Okay, oh my god, I think
that that, you know, a lot of these holidays is
kind of you know, we understand people if they played
the super Bowl on a Saturday, so we okay, on

(07:11):
a Sunday on a Sunday makes no sense, alright, So
Scary and I are the only two in the stroom
that went to the I Heart Radio Music Festival. They
were here to report. It was a lot of fun.
It was it was a lot of take everybody next year, Well, okay,
what that idea? Can we can look? You know, it
costs money to get out there. We needed a central personnel,
people who are working on the show to be there.

(07:32):
You can't just go because it's fun and I don't
like to travel. Let's scary. What did you do? What
did you do? What did you work? Went to the
f to party? No, I had they Actually I actually
had to go to some client parties. There's big sponsors involved. Elvis.
You can't be everywhere all the time. So I was
a representative of the show. It's certain play. I wasn't

(07:52):
trying to the shoes, but people were kind of excited
that someone from the show had the time say hello
and shake hands were good and for the actual listeners,
um I went on. I was in charge of the
Elvis Durant show, Instagram, Instant, the instant stories and the
snapchat and I put together what I consider taking you there,
like moments that you needed to see. So I was
trying to find when when security guards weren't pushing me

(08:14):
out of the way, trying to find some moments that
I could share live on Instant Story. Moment. I don't
know what you did at the Elvis Duran show account,
but we lost two thousand, two thousand follows. Oh that
you know. Instant Story was different though that I didn't
really post pictures something something, Someone did something, and we
lost two thousands. Come back. I watched the Instant Stories

(08:36):
that scary was was filming great camera work, but they
weren't like here's Chris Martin and you could watch Chris
Martin stage. It was look at me, christ Mark's behind me,
look at me. So it was you with Chris Martin
in the background. Yeah, we'll tell us some stories though,
some backstage stuff that you didn't get on Instagram. Uh,

(08:56):
it was scary. Did you see anything? I mean, I
mean nothing out of the ordinary. I mean it was
just I will okay, I'll give you a piece of dirt.
As you know, and we've learned this the hard way
in this business that the artists are great. They're really
most of all the celebrities stars artists that come through

(09:16):
here are really fun and fantastic. It's sometimes they're people
can be a problem. And I bet a lot of
times the celebrities don't know that there people are a problem,
like their assistance, the people who are you know, producing
them whatever. There is one artist who came into the
broadcast room and we were interviewing her, and her people

(09:38):
didn't want people coming in, so they held the door
closed and and they kept their hands on the door knob.
You couldn't even turn the door knob. It was like
a firehaster. But and I found out about this. People
are trying to get in because we were working and
they wouldn't let them in this room. And I was like, really,
people behave like that. It really pissed me off that

(10:00):
the people are there. People are sometimes just awful, awful
people ben but they're nice. That reminds me the time
he was supposed to bring someone on stage in the
Bahamas and the guy didn't want you going near the
stage and you were the guy introducing the app. Yeah,
that was Rihanna. I was supposed to go on the
stage to introduce Rihanna. Like I said, no, you can't
get into near the stage, so you can get away.

(10:21):
That's what I'm supposed to bring her on the stage.
He's like, no, you're not getting over. I'm like, well,
it's it's our fucking show. What are you talking the
old I'm going to bring me on on stage routine.
You just want to get a picture of her. He
didn't believe you. I didn't want to picture with her.
I just want to go on the stage and start
our show. It was the Elvis duran Morning Show concert,
and I said, I'm I'm that guy. I'm Elvis Durana.

(10:44):
I liked how they told everybody not to talk about
the special guest DJ Khalid had. But Friday night, Kalid's like,
I'm in Vegas and look who I'm with everybody that
he brought out on stage, But you guys weren't allowed
to say anything. Well, I think we we we sort
of self police to that right. I wanted to build
more of a thing now we knew who was going
to be there. To that point, I gotta say I misjudged.

(11:04):
I really thought, wow, well, Kaled, you know he's gonna
stand in front of a turntable whatever. He's a DJ
and as a producer, and is anyone gonna stay around
for this is half they're gonna gonna empty out. I
was kind of concerned, But then would he put on
this show. I'm gonna go on record and say, in
my opinion, of all seven I Heart Radio music festivals
we've ever had, as far as the finale went, he

(11:27):
closed out the show better than anyone. That was the
best five minutes or ten minutes of the entire all
seven years put together. Because it was just one after
another after another another another one. People just kept coming out.
It was It was amazing. It was like a machine
gun of talent. He was just shooting the shooting on
the stage. I looked at our friends Carla Marine and

(11:48):
Anthony and I had had goose bumps and we were
looking at each other like what just happened in front
of us this It was magical, And people didn't stay
around for him. Yes, the entire arena was full. I
was wrong. You gotta keep in mind when you want
to fill up an arena to do a show and
the show is supposed to start at seven thirty. Uh,
their security they're checking everyone. You can't get the theater
full enough because people wait to the last minute to come.

(12:09):
So when it was time to start the show, a
lot of seats were empty. And it's not that you
know no one wanted to come, and that they're still
going to security getting my pat down. So if you're Kesha,
for instance, and you're supposed to go on stage and sing,
you don't want to go sing to an empty room.
And we don't want her to sing to an empty room.
So but we have to start the show. We got,
the union, we got times are taken, so it's kind

(12:31):
of a tricky tricky thing. I would love to see
Big Shawn's people though, because he started the day in
New York City at the Global Citizen's Fest in Central Park,
popped on a private jet to Vegas. I wanted to
see what that timing was like from Oh my God,
where they were nervous, you know, the backstage, they were
very nervous. Big Sean wasn't gonna make in time. Demi
was in New York too. When Big Sean, halfway through

(12:52):
his set, he stopped down. He says, I need to
think everyone here at I Heart, and he told everyone
the story. He goes, I was just a globe citizens
and somehow the fine folks at My Heart got me here,
and I'm here and this is just amazing to be
doing this show back to back from vague, from New
York to Vegas, fun and day he took my plane.

(13:13):
I'm kidding, you know, my private plane has jet blue
written on it. The show on Saturday, it started a
tiny bit late, you know, So Jada was in her
room and she's like, has he has her iPad and
she was all, you know, on on c WTV dot
com and she's streaming at waiting, waiting, waiting. That's when

(13:33):
she was watching what was going on at the at
the daytime village and all that stuff. So so then
you know, mommy and daddy were having an anniversary, so
we were getting ready to get you know a little
close in the in the bed and all. But but
all of a sudden, because because the concert started late
sex and we're like yeah, and she's like this shows

(13:54):
that start egche So then all of a sudden, you know,
it ruined everything because had the show start on time,
then we could have had our own shows started on time, right,
But because she was so misserable didn't understand why was it?
Our directors and producers in Las Vegas knew if they
only knew that what was hinging on us starting the show.
And I'll tell you another story Dan Parissy. He was.

(14:15):
He produces all of our jingle balls and our big shows.
He produced I Heart Radio Music Festival. He is in
such demand because he's the best in the business. They
wanted him to go do the uh the concert for Charlottesville,
so he had to get on a plane and zoom
out of Las Vegas and go to charlettest Film and
do that. He's so great, so talented. We have so
many talented people that worked for this company, and uh

(14:36):
it was just incredible to watch everyone do their thing.
And there was our own Bethany right there next to
the stage with a microphone in front of her, and
she was the voice of God. She was great. She
really her voice sounds really nice and swing up. I'm sorry,
no one throw up. No. We had no vomit this year,
not on stage anyway, did we. Fifteen minute Morning Show
